4-0 out of 5 stars Deep, thought provoking, a must see
This movie was a serious eye opener. It's an HIV/AIDS wake up call. This movie IMHO is a must see!!! By the end of the movie if you have been "irresponsible" with your own life, then this movie will hopefully make you change your ways. SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars IM FROM CHICAGO SO MAYBE I AM BIASED
I thought the movie was very thought-provoking. I spent another hour or so after watching this just imagining being in the predicament of the main characters. It inspired lots of conversation and I guess thats a good thing. You wont recognize anyone in the film unless you are from Chicago *wink wink* but it had an equal share of laughs, irony, realness and seriousness. It made me think of the movie Kids on another level but the message is still there in black or white.

4-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable and Educational
This movie is an excellent way to show young teenager the reality of AIDS. This movie shows the two sides of the African- American culture. The so-call player and working black man and their decisions for their life. This movie demonstrates no one is invisible from AIDS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
If you have anyone who feels that HIV and AIDS is not a serious issue, well, you need to get a copy of this movie quick, fast and pronto. I have heard of this movie, but wasn't able to see it until last week when it came on Cable, and despite the cussing, despite the rawness(which is needed)it was a great flick. It should be in everyone's library.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Gotta Have This One In Your Collection
Excellent and thought-provoking movie. Superb dialogue. This movie definitely keeps it real and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The actors are believable, and the movie doesn't come across as preachy like most films about HIV and AIDS. With the right budget and backing from the major industry players, this could have been the "Boyz in the Hood" of it's genre. This movie should be shown to every teen/young adult and used as a public service. See this movie and then give it to a friend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Where oh where has my Underdog gone where oh where can he be
Underdog is here in these digitally remastered episodes (the best these episodes have EVER looked) available for the first time on DVD. Tons of features from a theme song sing a long to long lost opening credits,an ad for Underdog on Thanksgiving,a trivia quiz, easy chapter access, three complete Underdog adventures, four bonus shorts,an interview with the courageous canines creator Joe Harris, and more all packaged together for the definitive collectors addition of this classic cartoon with artwork from Mr Harris. This DVD includes a CD Rom with screen savers and sound bites for use on PC's. More than worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Underdog under the knife
Golden Books for some unfathomable reason has edited the four part stories removing the cliffhangers and other elements that made this cartoon unique. United American made the same mistake and their tapes sat on shelves gathering dust. Its a shame what Golden did wrong because the audio and video are SUPERIOR to ANY previous versions. They've even restored the theme song missing from Cartoon Network airings. The DVD also has a cool interview with Underdogs creator Joe Harris, lost promos and intros, and a beautiful DVD cover by the creator. If it wasn't for the missing cliffhangers this DVD would be perfect. Maybe next time after getting feedback from Underdog fans they'll get it right.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Underdog (Collector's Edition)"
"Underdog" was definitely one of the best classic cartoons of all time. This is an excellent DVD. I LOVE "Underdog"! "Underdog" RULES!

1-0 out of 5 stars RIP-OFF!
I give this one star because I'm way more bent out of shape than the previous poster -- the theme songs and intros WERE THE WHOLE REASON I BOUGHT THIS DVD TO BEGIN WITH! Let's face it, none of these cartoons were well-written or animated like the classic shorts of the 20s-40s, they basically serve the sole purpose of being boomer-nostalgia. Lacking the parts we all remember best, this DVD is stripped of all charm. My baby girl even hates this stuff, so the DVD is totally worthless as nostalgia or entertainment for kids. Wish I'd have read the reviews before buying this. Don't waste your money.
One last thought: I'm Jewish and that earlier post about these cartoons being anti-semitic is one of the stupidest things I've ever read in here. Hate this DVD for being a crappy rip-off, but let's not fabricate bigotry where none exists.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could have been better
The quality of picture and sound are excellent, but because the cliffhanger episodes are chopped up and are not matched up with their theme songs, it is very cumbersome to navigate. It would have been much better had they kept the episodes in tact as they were origionally seen. Also, no person in their right mind should find Underdog offensive. The cartoon series is gentle and fun and being a teacher of small children, I wish children today had shows like this to watch on television! ... Read more

A spoof of Superman that ran from 1964 through 1973, Underdogfeatured Wally Cox as the voice of the title character and his mild-manneredalter-ego Shoeshine Boy. Decades later, the show plays like an odd mixture ofJay Ward and Hanna-Barbera cartoons. The animation is little more thanstoryboards with cycles added for walks and runs, with the humor in the voicetrack and narration--a technique Ward pioneered in Crusader Rabbit. The villains are celebrity sound-alikes, as many Hanna-Barbera characterswere: The King of Zot is Jimmy Durante; Simon Bar Sinister, Lionel Barrymore, etc. Included on the disc are various cartoons that were shown onUnderdog, but without their familiar theme songs. Some viewers may beoffended by the Indians in "Go Go Gophers," Ruffled Feather and RunningBoard. A disc for nostalgic baby boomers and animation history buffs.(Unrated, suitable for ages 7 and older: cartoon violence, ethnic stereotypes)--Charles Solomon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There's no need to fear Underdog is here
Underdog is back again on DVD. Included on this release are the cartoons Tennessee Tuxedo,Commander McBragg,Go Go Gophers etc. that were interspersed between the cliffhanger episodes that made up the four part stories of our courageous canine. Each Underdog story is presented WITHOUT the cliffhangers that ended each episode of every story but they are hardly noticed due to the smooth clean edits. The animation is beautiful since this sixties favorite and perennial syndicated rerun staple for over thirty years has been digitally remastered. The familiar theme song once missing when Underdog aired on cable recently is back as well. This DVD is a must have for any true Underdog fan. So have no fear Underdog is here.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Underdog Chronicles"
Once again, this is an excellent "Underdog" DVD. "Underdog" is a great cartoon and is one oof the best. "Underdog" RULES!

4-0 out of 5 stars Underdog Remade
This classic cartoon was my absolute favorite as a kid. I thoroughly enjoyed it in my pajamas eating cereal and glued to the TV set early in the AM. While this digitally remastered version is well done, it lacks the true originality of the show. For instance, it is missing the intro 'Don't touch that dial! Watch this exciting seen from today's 4 part story of Underdog! Here it comes now!' It is also missing the segment clip of scenes from other shows that was in the middle of the original show 'You'll see all of this Underdog adventure, complete on today's show. And in weeks to come, you'll see exciting scenes like this:' Since it was in 4-part episodes originally, parts of the scenes are cut in order to remake it uninterrupted which tends to destroy the great suspense music as a part ends. Also, the credits are missing the part where the guy was pasting a poster on the wall and the cop points out the sign that says 'Post No Bills' The segments with the lyrics are complete and in original form, which is a great plus. It is sad that the lyrics and intro themes to the other cartoons affiliated with Underdog are not included. Wow, I am amazing myself how much I remember of this show which is 30+yrs old. Also, absent is the clip where the guy pulls the switch and the marqui says 'Scenes from Next Week's Show' And, eventhough a lot has been taken away from the original, I love this cartoon sooo much, I have to give you 4 stars for remaking it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Underdone
I picked up the Underdog Chronicles to add to my Underdog Collector's Edition DVD. Alas, this new DVD suffers from the same lack of completeness as the Collector's Edition. The cartoon episodes themselves are entertaining and remastered well (except for the audio sometimes, whose volume tends to fade out ever so slightly in places), but every one of the cartoons is missing the original title card and ending credits. All of the title cards have inexplicably been replaced by hokey _ad hoc_ opening titles that make no effort to match the look and feel of the original period. Why these glaring deletions to the body of work were made is unclear; the old title cards and credits contribute much to the nostalgic value of a collection like this, and to omit them detracts from the enjoyment of the experience. (A least the Underdog theme song is present in its several forms.)

Even worse, the auxiliary cartoons that accompanied the Underdog show (this DVD calls them "Cliffhanger Episodes") -- namely Tennessee Tuxedo, Go Go Gophers, Commander McBragg, etc. -- are missing their theme songs, title cards and credits. As a result, each cartoon ends abruptly (no outro music or The End card) and you're never quite sure if that's really the end of the cartoon, or if it has been truncated. I'd sure like to know who made these ... production decisions. They obviously know nothing about continuity or the difference between a great product and a mediocre one.

Still, I love Underdog so much, I've rated this product a 4. If you're not a fan of the series, the deficiencies I've noted probably won't annoy you as much as they did me. If you _are_ a fan of the series, you'll enjoy the cartoons despite the bad decisions made in transcribing them onto DVD.

But it could have been so much better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great package from Golden Entertainment BUT....
The sound on ZOT is not very clear.... It might just be the film. The rest of the episodes are simply wonderful though... I even liked the mini story of Underdog that Joe Harris had made for his kids...

I am not into Go Go Gophers and such, so I skipped them, but those are for people who are fans of those... SORRY...

The Ticklefeather Machine was OK.... Not the best one of the bunch, but I did like the one about the famous painting and Shoeshine's true self is almost discovered...

In future volumes... I would like to see more photos of the people behind the photos, or old interviews on their opinions of Underdog... All in all another welcome addition to my Underdog collection.... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not like the old TV series
I had seen Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas and I was rather embarassed by it. For one thing, the animation here seems like it was targeted for really small kids. The old animated series was done in the Japanese anime style (fact is, all the animation was made in Japan). With Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas, it looks like all the animation was made right here in America and it comes across as being surprisingly childish, while the original series was anything but childish. I guess the point here was they were trying to target this version of Inspector Gadget to the same kids who watch Barney, totally forgetting that there were plenty of people at that time (1992) who remembered the original series (simply because Nickelodeon was airing it on regular basis at that time, and still did until recently, now ABC Family, formerly Fox Family airs it). While Dr. Claw still sounds like his old self and you still don't see his face, and Penny and Brain is still doing Gadget's real work, I find this really dumbed down and really lacks the charm and appeal of the original series. To me I think this is a disgrace to the Inspector Gadget name, but I can be only thankful it's not quite as bad as the non-animated Disney made in 1999. ... Read more

All there is to say about this GREAT DVD is... "Underdog" RULES!

3-0 out of 5 stars "Never Fear - Underdog Is Here!"
UNDERDOG is a fun frolic for those who remember the cartoon about the shoe-shine boy who has an alter ego. The adventures on this DVD brought back a few memories. There are even special features that include episode listings and cliff hangers along with other short cartoons.

The voices are witting and the rhyming is clever but it has a few signature trademarks that once you see it, will be the start of many great memories.

A fun and inexpensive DVD with a few extras for the kids and adults. (11-29-02)

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it more then the series, would you beleive it?
ok, well how about; i love it more then "the nude bomb?"

This is a great movie, and at a great price! This movie may contain a few of the old gags seen in the TV series and recycled a few of the old jokes aswell, its still classic Get Smart material!

After the years have passed, Max and his wife 99 have retired from the spy buisness. Only to discover that there old arch rival Kaos is back in buisness, and with the new spys of the day not equiped to handle taking them on, they find Maxwell Smart to come back and help them!

And the goofyness of Max is back in black and hitting the sack as good as ever before! Alot of the original cast of the TV series have returned and it is very much a film that was worth making! Almost like a reunion for a show that never got a final episode!

This movie is great and contains all your favorite Get Smart lines and antics except maybe one? but they only missed it by __that much! err, sorry about that chief!

But the hillarious goofyness of max and the team is as great as ever, tho they may have all ages, this is a great flick!

If they ever release "the nude bomb" on DVD, i strongly recomend you do not watch that one! It pretty much had nothing to do with the tv series and went more James Bond style, it wasnt funny, it completly screwed up the knowledge of cast and freinds of the TV series, and 99 wasnt even anywhere in sight, and seeing max as guy scoring with all the chicks was not a good idea! Max and 99 are ment to be together forever, and this movie revived that crappy movie they made before this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Missed it by that much!"
This should be the standard for which all made for TV reunion movies should follow! "Get Smart, Again" aired on ABC in the early 90's to very high ratings with good reason, It's good! Would you believe, Great! Yes, Great!
CONTROL is back in business to fight the evil forces of KAOS!
The old gang is back Agent 86 (Don Adams), Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), Hymie (Dick Gautier) to stop the sinister Sigfried (Bernie Kopell) Besides most of the original cast returning many of the series original creative team has returned. Leonard B. Stern, Mark Curtiss & Rod Ash wrote the script and Gary Nelson directed. The movie preserves all of the flavor of the comedy of the Get Smart series yet makes it contempoary enough for today's audiences something the makers of the dreadful 1980 feature film "The Nude Bomb" also starring Don Adams did not do!
The reason my rating is not 5 stars is because of the DVD itself!
The picture quality is very poor. The color is washed out, there is no sharpness or brightness every scene looks as if it were filmed through gauze! The DVD package says "Digitally Mastered" but mastered from what, a VHS tape? Don't let the poor quality of the DVD discourage you. The excellent quality of the movie, the script and all the performances are worth the price! A must have for all "Get Smart" fans! Until we get the complete orginal series on DVD or even a better print of "Get Smart, Again" this will have to do!

2-0 out of 5 stars Get Smart Again - OK, But Where's the Original Series
As many who have created reviews here have said, when's the original series coming out? Probably the political correctness crowd would have a cow over this series, but who cares? It's got the Mel Brooks stamp on it.

As for this remake, yes it's got some of the old jokes in there. But instead of the cone of silence, they tried to one-up the original series by introducing "hover cover" and the "hall of hush". While these were good tries, I miss the Chief and Max trying to talk under the cone of silence. I also miss the original hallway Max walks down with all its doors. In the new version this hallway is out of commission. Boo!

Also, all the old characters are there, but they seem stale compared to the original cast, and of course, there's no Chief. Also, they try to get cute with Siegfried's character by giving him a double role. It doesn't work.

IF the execs get their heads screwed on straight and come out with these DVDs they should just skip the first year and go straight to year 2 when the series was in color. For the afficionados they can offer year 1 later, but to draw a better response they should just issue year 2 if they're going to do anything at all.

I agree with a lot of the comments made already regarding this series. With all the garbage available nowadays on DVD I can't see why they haven't already issued this series. But maybe the studio execs can't figure out how to tone down the original without ticking off half a dozen ethnic groups.

Some years ago I happened to see an episode of Get Smart on either TV Land or Nickelodeon. I thought it was a scream. It had one of those 60's comedy hacks on as "da craw" (the claw). Of course, Max didn't understand that he was trying to say claw, so the villian says "not da craw, DA CRAW!" And it had the same jokes in it about "get your knee off my chest" and the cone of silence and Max's claims to having "10 agents with dobermann's outside, would you believe it?"

Maybe it'll just take a little more time and buyer interest to bring this excellent series back.

5-0 out of 5 stars The DVD mentioned below is an illegal bootleg - Avoid it!
Get Smart has never been released legally on DVD and anyone selling them is selling illegally made copies. They claim to be selling the "complete show of 96 episodes," but there were 138 episodes, not 96, so you can see right at the start they're not reputable dealers. Remember, anyone selling bootlegs is inherently dishonest, as they are committing a crime by making and selling these bootlegs, so why would you expect them to be honest and fair in their dealings with you? Don't support piracy and I think it's pretty disgraceful that Amazon allows reviews that let people sell illegal bootlegs.

All in all another welcome addition to my Underdog collection.... ... Read more
