1-0 out of 5 stars Don't expect great picture or sound quality
My husband bought this set for me as a Christmas gift. I absolutely love Lucy regardless of the show, but I was sorely disappointed in the picture and sound quality of these DVDs. Neither of us expected cutting-edge sound or ultra-crisp video, but we did figure the video quality would be a little better than a third-generation copy dubbed off a VCR with dirty heads. Lucy's funny as usual, but we can't help but think that the biggest laugh on this DVD set was on us! Lucy's performance: 3 stars. DVD quality: -2 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a Disappointment
I love the original episodes included here, but unfortunately, the prints from which these DVD's were made are of very bad quality. Some of the episodes are not even complete. Picture and sound quality are poor. Do not be fooled by the slick packaging.

3-0 out of 5 stars AGAIN NOT A REVIEW
While it is true that DVD makers have adopted the communist way and are trying to prevent information to freely circulate around the world through regional coding, the good news is that any free person can buy a DVD player that plays all region coding in a few High Street reputable electronics stores in France (FNAC and Virgin).

1-0 out of 5 stars Not really a review.....
I wish I could rate this DVD! But again the companies let the European Lucy Ball Fans down. First we could not buy VHS video-tapes released in USA, due to the different TV-systems..... So we hoped for the releases on DVD. But guess what: Region Codings.... Thus again: No Lucy Ball for her European Fans..... A pity and a missed chance! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pick-me Up
This Lucy disk has kept me laughing since the time I saw it. Lucille Ball performs wonderfully as usual in her setting. Anytime I'm down, I watch this disk, and it always lifts my spirits. I can almost recite the lines, but the lightheartedness is catching. I garauntee satisfaction with this movie. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 2 GREAT "LUCY" EPISODES
This budget DVD includes 2 episodes from THE LUCY SHOW, featuring the classic comedy duo of Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance.

"Lucy and Viv Put in a Shower" - The girls want another shower for the boys' room, but can't afford it. So Lucy appoaches Harry, who pulls a few strings and employs a plumber to install the shower (telling Lucy that the plumber is NOT a plumber and is working for nothing). When Lucy unknowingly insults him, the plumber takes off, leaving Lucy and Viv to complete the job...!

"Lucy's Barbershop Quartet" - Lucy wants to join Viv and pals when they enter a singing competition, though there's only one problem...she can't sing! Enter Hans Conreid, who plays a kooky singing teacher, and you have a classic LUCY SHOW episode!

Highly-recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars halorious shows

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy production and packaging of a TV Classic
Cheap thrown-together dvd with zero extras and inacurately depicting Lucy and Desi from I Love Lucy days... these "Lucy Show" episodes apparently fall into some kind of public domain status, hence the explosion of ugly covers and cheap graphics from a handful of no-name budget companies. Yeech! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still just as great, over 60 years later
Lucille Ball, Tommy Dix, Virginia Weidler, June Allyson, and Nancy Walker star in this hilarious and refreshing story of a military school student who invites a famous movie actress to the prom.

Bud Hooper didn't know that his letter would ever be answered...but when Lucille Ball writes back to say she'd be delighted to attend his school's senior prom, he's in shock. He frantically wires his girlfriend, Helen, not to come because he is sick. Guilty and depresed, Bud wishes he'd never thought up this crazy scheme. His two roommates are enthusiastic, however, and convince him that Helen will never know.

Meanwhile, Lucille Ball isn't any happier. Jack, her publicity agent, wants to get her on the front page and thinks this is the way to do it. Lucille is skeptical, especially when she hears that she must hide her identity and go to the prom as Helen, because that was the name Bud turned into the faculty two weeks before.

Trouble escalates when Helen shows up just before the prom, having intended to keep her poor bedridden boyfriend company. Then it's just one laugh after another as Lucille Ball's dress is torn off in a frenzy of "souvenir collecting" started by the fuming Helen. Lucy is then forced to hide in a stuffy closet, while Bud and his friends try to plan an escape.

This is a true gem of a movie, with great songs and hysterically funny lines. My favorite line was probably one spoken by the hopelessly ugly blind date (Nancy Walker): "You can't insult me and get away with it. In fact, you can't insult me."

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY FUNNY ONE LINERS!
This movie has many lines that my sisters and I still quote from today! ("Whoever finds her...I hope it's me!" -- one of our favorites!) Trust me, this is very funny!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Forties Musical
If you like college musicals, you'll love this fast paced MGM piece of fluff. The story is simple, a military college cadet wins a date with Hollywood actress Lucille Ball (In one of many performances where she plays herself) This ill conceived publicity stunt designed to re-start her faltering career, turns into a hilarious disaster when the cadet's girlfriend shows-up the night of the big date. You can imagine the fun that ensues with Lucy hiding out in the cadet's dorm room closet which continues to get more crowed by the minute. The musical numbers are all classic, like Harry James' swing version of "Flight of the Bumble Bee," and the rollicking "Barrelhouse, Boogie, and The Blues," beautifully performed by Nancy Walker, June Allison, and Gloria DeHaven. This was their MGM debut film and they all went on to stardom.

This is one of MGM's better musicals from the forties, it is full of great music, lively dancing and just plain fun and let's face it Lucille Ball is absolutely georgous.

I highly recommend this film!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucy shines!
Lucy looks absolutely fabulous in this movie, just like she does in every other movie. She is a brilliant actress, and it shows in this film. Her talent comes shining through. She's very funny at times, especially when her fans rip off her clothes and she slaps a man. She's left there in her underwear, and she constantly has to hide in closets(poor dear!). This is a very good movie, so if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and do watch it. If you love Lucy as much much as I do(which I doubt), or even remotely close to how much I do, then watch her shine in Best Foot Forward. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars I'll second the "poor quality" complaint...
I was also a bit disappointed when I saw the poor quality of the picture in this DVD. It looks like it was recorded off the TV. It looks a little fuzzy and washed out if you ask me. Also what the other customer said about skipping, mine does that too.

However, it's still possible to enjoy if you put the poor quality aside, so I gave it 3 stars.

If picture quality isn't that important to you, then you might be interested. If picture quality is of high importance to you, however, I would probably skip to the next one...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lucy Show DVD ... Lucille Ball... Excellent Quality
An excellent demonstation of Lucille Ball's abilities. Some of the best episodes from The Lucy Show. It is in general an excellent series. Highly Recommended. 5 Stars. A+

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good choice of episodes
Not as good as I Love Lucy these four episodes of her later show don't do Lucy justice. Another thing is the quality. DVD's are supposed to be of high quality but they used a very bad film copy when they made this. It even jumps in a couple places! I'm taking mine back to the store. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the series
Because fans stayed away from this film in droves, Lucy and Desi never made another movie together. Too bad, because the film is far superior to the series. Credit should go to veteran director Vincente Minelli and his sure hand in balancing the material. Against all odds: Ball's slapstick is drained of usual shrillness, Desi's star is allowed to shine, situation is raised above personality, and peripheral crowd scenes are heightened to hilarious commentary on busybody middle America. In fact, this is one of few 50's movies to capture spirit of a rising middle class: the buoyant optimism, the credit card dependency, the aping of upper class tastes. All is accomplished, nevertheless, with an underlying sweetness that might not be expected from two overaged stars then in the process of subduing the tigers of TV land. Moreover, the choice of a trailer gimmick for the comedy setting was an inspired one. A true little gem and document of its time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous!
First, I'd like to clear something up. The reviewer who said Lucy and Desi never made another movie together after this, is wrong. The made one more film, which was 1957's Forever Darling.

In this 1954 comedy, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz light up the screen as newlyweds Tacy and Nicky Collini. Tacy's dream house is a mobile home, although Nicky would rather have a real house. Before their wedding, they decide to purchase a 28-foot long trailer and as soon as they say "I Do," the happy couple hits the road on a cross-country honeymoon. But there are some bumps up ahead.

Lucy and Desi were truly a fantastic duo and it shows in the Long, Long Trailer. This was a wonderful, laugh-out-loud comedy that all fans of I Love Lucy will love!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Movies Ever!!
When you need a genuinely good laugh, slip "The Long, Long Trailer" into your VCR. It's sort of an extension of "I Love Lucy" except the characters are Nicky & Tacy Callini instead of Ricky & Lucy Ricardo and it's filmed in glorious AnscoColor instead of boring black and white. This hilarious movie is given the full MGM treatment, with the studio's premiere director at the time, Vincente Minnelli, directing. Starring as well are some of Hollywood's greatest character actors, particularly the fabulous Marjorie Main. Also featured are some beautiful scenes of Yosemite National Park and the mountains of California. And that yellow 1953 Mercury Monterey convertible is one of my personal favorites of the film. Another amusing highlight is hearing Lucy and Desi sing "Breezing Along With the Breeze", accompanied by the lush, 100-piece MGM symphony orchestra. This is one classy motion picture! "The Long, Long Trailer" was one of 1954's top box office hits and was MGM's most successful comedy in the studio's then 30-year history. That's quite impressive considering people could stay home and watch Lucy and Desi for free on television. So DO get this video. You'll watch it- and laugh- over and over again. In fact, I'm gonna go watch it right now. HEY, Warner Home Video -- hurry up with the DVD version of this 1954 MGM sensation. (Warner owns the entire pre-1986 MGM library.)

If you are one of the millions who loved Lucy, you'll love the Long, Long Trailer!

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were one of the great comedy teams, and The Long, Long Trailer was one of their most successful films.

Before their marriage Tacy Bolton and Nicky Collini decide (well, Tacy decides and Nicky goes along, reluctantly) to buy a trailer so that she can follow him and make a home for him while he travels to construction sites. Unfortunately, he has never pulled a long trailer and it proves almost too much for him, not to mention that it is a "budget buster."

This is a typical situation comedy of the type that Lucy and Desi did so well. A laugh a minute is guaranteed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucy and Desi at their best!
