5-0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest and darkest comedy/musicals of all time!
There's never been a movie like "The Little Shop of Horrors" before, and there probably never will be. The film it resembles the most is undoubtedly "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," but I find it cleverer, funnier, and more enjoyable than that movie, if still as sick in its own twisted little way.

The movie stars Rick Moranis in the role he was born to play: that of a geeky and timid New York City kid named Seymour, who works at a crummy florist shop way downtown along with Audrey (Ellen Greene), a blonde gal who sounds as if she's sucked in too much helium. Seymour is too shy to confess his love for Audrey, and his only way of dropping a hint is when he finds a mysterious plant at another flower shop and names it Audrey II. "I hope you don't mind," he tells her, and then he drops it by the front window of the store in hopes of drawing customers.

It does. The first customer (Christopher Guest) enters with a cheerfully stupid grin and buys $50 worth of roses. "Do you have change for a hundred?" he asks. They don't. "Oh, well, then I guess I'll just have to buy one hundred dollars' worth!"

Business starts to boom, and the plant starts to bloom, turning into a ferocious man-eater that demands a sacrifice of human blood from Seymour to crave its hunger. After a few weeks, Seymour is bone dry, unable to slice any more fingers open and feed his gargantuan plant. "Feed me, Seymour!" the talking plant bellows.

Audrey has a new boyfriend who has been beating her up. He's a dentist, played by Steve Martin, and as he puts it, "I have a natural talent for causing people pain!" He likes to cause people intense pain, walking through his dentist's office and purposely knocking orderlies in the face with door handles and pulling teeth without applying sedatives. "Wait! I'm not numb!" a customer shouts during an introductory song. "Eh, shut up, open wide, here I come!" his dentist yells, starting to drill away.

Steve Martin has played a dentist since, in the undoubtedly lesser but unjustly bashed "Novocaine" (2001). His outing as a pain-driven dentist in "The Little Shop of Horrors" is ten times better, and Martin is truly the highlight of the entire film, from the point when he is introduced riding his motorcycle to the job with a leather jacket (only to strip it off and reveal a white dentist's coat as he enters his office), to the part where Seymour enters his office with a gun in hopes of killing him and feeding him to his plant. Martin doesn't get what's going on, because he's wearing a comedically oversized laughing gas mask he invented that's making him chuckle like a moron. "What are you gonna do? Shoot me? Ha!" The laughing gas kills him before Seymour musters up the emotional strength to.

Seymour drags the dentist's dead body home, chops him up and feeds him to Audrey II, but this is only the start of his worries, because soon the media frenzy centered around the wonderfully odd plant starts to drive him to insanity, as he desperately tries to juggle between keeping a clean conscience and keeping away the media.

Then Audrey II reveals its true intentions - to take over the world with its offspring - and Seymour decides that it's time to stop Audrey II before it gets too far.

"The Little Shop of Horrors" is such a wonderfully offbeat comedy it's almost impossible to dislike. It's one of my favorite comedies, the type of odd little film that doesn't promise to be very much at all but provides a lot.

Frank Oz directed the film (based on Roger Corman's classic), and it was filmed on a visibly low budget, but that's okay, because it's supposed to be that way. It's part of the fun. All the stages are obviously just that, with poorly painted backgrounds of New York City and the skyline. You can literally see the cracks in the wall where the different stages meet with each other. And it's great! It makes the movie, and the movie knows it isn't anything special. At one point, Audrey has a dream sequence of living in a nice little Brady Bunch home, and we see Seymour cutting the lawn with a lawnmower. It's so cheesy and fake that it barely meets the quality standards of a children's television show - but, once again, it helps makes the movie.

The movie has tons of cameos, too, including James Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest, Bill Murray, et al. And if the guest stars, dark humor, and delightful direction don't interest you, perhaps the songs will - because many of them are quite good. The highlight is "Suddenly Seymour," in which Seymour and Audrey have a duet, and Audrey's voice suddenly turns from meek to booming, overpowering Seymour's lyrics and pounding the stage.

This is the definition of a cult film. Everything about it just strikes you as a cult film. But whereas "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a cult film for - in my opinion - sick people, "The Little Shop of Horrors" is a cult film for people who love comedy. It's all in good nature, with cheery little musical numbers every once and a while that are as funny as the songs in "The Blues Brothers," if not more so. But what makes the film particularly different from the rest is its deliciously dark humor - especially for a mainstream comedy like this. From the plant's adamant bloodlust to the shadowy image of Steve Martin slapping Audrey around behind a backlit stage prop, this is one of the funniest, darkest, and yet also cheerfully lightweight comedies ever.

3-0 out of 5 stars What a Great Film it Could Have Been
Little Shop of Horrors is the definitive modern musical comedy. The music, as written by Alan Menkin, is melodic and beautiful, with some of the best lyrics in recent memory. The pacing is quick, with sharp directing by Frank Oz and great comedic performances by Steve Martin, Ellen Greene, and Rick Moranis (and the very over-rated Bill Murray, in a painfully extended cameo as a masochistic dental patient). The film knows that it isn't art, or thought-provoking, which is what keeps it from being truly campy. But what prevents it from being great is the extremely controversial, oft-discussed original ending.
In the play, Audrey and Seymour are eaten by Audrey II, and the Greek Chorus sings a cautionary song to the audience. In the movie, Audrey survives, Seymour electrocutes Audrey II, and they all live happily ever after. It wasn't always so, however. Oz had filmed the play's ending, but in test screenings, the audience was angry and appalled, so Oz opted to reshoot the film for the ending as it is.
In 1998. a Special Edition DVD was released with a VERY rough cut of the original ending, but it was pulled from the shelves by the producer after only two days. A second release DVD came out in 2000, sans original ending. The first issue DVD has become a collector's item of the highest degree, often selling at online auction sites for upwards of $100.
Well, I own that first issue DVD, and having seen what the film could have been, I can't rate it higher than 3 stars. In that ending, Audrey's death is handled with dramatic emotion now absent from the film, never playing for laughs. There is a breathtaking Death March (Now available on the New Broadway Cast Album) as Seymour carries her body to Audrey II. Seymour undergoes a psychological spiral within minutes, before being devoured by the plant. And during the finale, "Don't Feed the Plants," many enormous Audrey II's are shown wrecking havoc on a devastated New York City, blowing up cinemas, eating trains, and crushing the very symbol of our country, the Statue of Liberty (sort of). Had this ending been used, the film would have been a memorable masterpiece, but as is, it is merely a forgetable (if enjoyable) musical flop.
It's a shame Frank Oz surrendered his vision to please the people. I can only imagine what the ending would have been like in full technicolor on the big screen.
Let's hope for a 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition DVD in 2006 with a re-edited film containing the original ending, as promised by the producer when he had the disks puled from the shelves.
Little Shop of Horrors is a fun film, if not for younger audiences. If you have 90 minutes to spare and are a fan of musical theatre, check out this modern classic-that-should-have-been, about a singing plant, a daring hero, a sweet girl, and a demented dentist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mean, Green and Mad!
Can you imagine Barbra Streisand in this film as Audrey? Although everyone familiar with this movie (and stage musical) immediatly sees Ellen Green in the part, we find out from the documentary on this disc that Babs was offered the role first. Thankfully she wasn't interested.
The film itself is the best stage-to-screen musical adapt. since Grease and none (even Chicago) have since come along to beat it. The music by Alan Menken and the lyrics by the late, great Howard Ashman are fantastically intertwined to evoke laughs as much as the required early-1960's atmosphere. This talented duo went on to score Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and (in part, due to Ashman's death) Aladdin. When listening to Little Shop's Somewhere That's Green it's easy to see where Mermaid's Part of Your World came from.
The cast are uniformly excellent and succeeded in making their parts their own (meaning that any production now seen on stage features clones of Moranis, Green, Martin etc.). Rick Moranis as Seymour seems to have been born to play the part and his singing voice comes as something of a revelation! Green, as I have already said, IS Audrey but Steve Martin just about manages to steal the entire film from all of them in an extended cameo as Orin the sadistic dentist. Other cameos include James Belushi, John Candy and (brilliantly) Bill Murray.
Audrey II (the plant) is a wonder of engineering and puppetry and watching the film now, I couldn't help but think that if this movie was made today Audrey II would be CGI - impact lost! Thank goodness then, that Frank Oz, director and some-time Muppet-man, gathered a group of talented people together to create a truly startling character. Although the character would be nothing without Levi Stubbs so wonderfully providing his voice.
Wisely it was decided to change the ending from the stage shows bleak (and, frankly, poor) conclusion to a more up-beat and 'Hollywood-style' finale. The original ending is glimpsed in the all-too-short deleted scenes section of this disc, as a couple of Audrey IIs attack a building, but it would have been nice to see the scene in tact perhaps with an option to swap it for the actual ending when watching the film. Also the inclusion of 'Mean, Green Mother' really helps the second half of the film which sadly sags in the show due to the absence of such a show-stopping number.
The 'making of' was made of the time and so is light and fluffy. I would have prefered a little more depth on the realisation of Audrey II. The trailers are worth watching - mini masterpieces of campy kitch but Oz's commentary is a little on the ponderous side.
So, in conclusion, the extras are acceptable if a little dull, but who needs extras when the film is as thoroughly enjoyable and toe-tapping as this! Just remember: - whatever they offer you - don't feed the plants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Fun and way out fun!
This off beat musical comedy is too fun, too sick and just plan rolicking for words!

The cast is perfectly matched to each character, the do wop Motown ala Crystals combined with Levi's rock out bass as "da plant" draws you onto the screen!

One for today's generation, sophisticates and those who want to really enjoy a musical - when it's over, all you want to say is "Wasn't that a lot of fun!"

Rent it, buy it, but ENJOY it.........

5-0 out of 5 stars Oz & Corman-Fabulous Musical With TONS OF SURPRISE CAMEOS!
Frank Oz's masterpiece of Roger Corman's B- Schlock Horror movie of the same name. Originally produced off broadway, it had a very successful run. So... What is Hollywood to do but make it into a blockbuster with big name stars and cameos.

Ellen Greene as the plucky Audrey, who also played the part on stage, Steve Martin as the sado-masochistic Dr. Orin Scrivello, DDS, Rick Moranis as the milquetoast Seymour, Vincent Gardenia as the crusty Mr. Mushnik & the voice of Levi Stubbs as the people-eating, mean green mother from outer-space, Audrey II.

Bill Murray has a hilarious cameo as Arthur Denton, the pain loving dental patient. He screams CANDY BAAAAR whilst the dentist inflicts pain upon him! John Candy cameo as the radio announcer, Wink Wilkinson, Jim Belushi as Patrick Martin, Christopher Guest as the first flower shop customer.

Great musical numbers from all, especially Ellen Greene who has one of the best set of pipes EVER!

Great family movie with only mildly irreverent language.

Happy Watching! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Murphy at His Best
I'm so glad they finally decided to release a DVD version of Boomerang. I have the VHS version but I am sure to buy the DVD. Boomerang is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a great love story and a wonderful depiction of how a dog gets dogged. Eddie plays the dog and Robin Givens plays the dogette. If you can get over the fact that she was once married to Mike Tyson you will see a wonderful portrayal of her character. Halle Berry makes a not so glamarous showing but is quite stunning to say the least. It's the first time you see Halle's personality and not just her looks. She not just a made up face but has substance. The cast is great and soundtrack is off-da-hook. This is by far some of Eddie's best work. He is funny, charming, and looks mighty fine in this movie. Be sure to buy the DVD when it is released. You will be pleasantly surprised. It's one for every African American Movie Collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST movie ever made!
Yes you read right, this is the best movie ever (at least to me)! Boomerang is about a player Marcus Gram(Eddie Murphy) who finally meets his match when he falls for a lovely woman named Jaqueline Broyer(Robin Givens). Everything that he did to women in the past all comes back to him, hence the title Boomerang(get it?). The supporting cast is as good as they come, they gel very good together, which include:Halley Barry, David Allan Grier, Martin Lawrence,Chris Rock,Ertha Kitt, etc(theres alot!). You'll see what I mean when you watch certain scenes like when Marcus and his friends are at dinner talking about women or working out talking about girls, its funny because it just seems like your there listening to friends really talking about that stuff. Theres also the dinner scene which is really good and funny! Mix that with a still to this day awesome soundtrack and yes you read right its the best movie ever made! Don't believe me, then go rent the video, but make sure to come back and buy it and dont say I didnt tell you so.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Murphy is hilarious
I love this movie. I laugh everytime at Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, and David Allen Grier's scenes. Chris Rock was also funny. Hallie Berry was great. I enjoy watching this movie. I laugh as if it is my first time viewing it. Now that I have the DVD, I love the deleted scenes. This is a must have for true DVD collectors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jacqueline and Angela
This is my favorite African-American movie of all time. I truly have to give credit to Reginald Hudlin for doing this movie, and for also doing "House Party." But what I really want to talk about is the two female characters: Jacqueline(Robin Givens) and Angela(Halle Berry). One day I was watching the DVD and I had it set on the "commentary by the director." What caught my attention was when Reginald Hudlin said something like how most women are the Hallies. And that is so true. Like he explained, most of us women relate more to Halle Berry's character who was shy and insecure, wanting to be so much like Robin Givens's character who was like a powerful stylish career woman. But even though Angela wasn't as glamorous as Jacqueline, Angela was the chosen one that changes Marcus(Eddie Murphy) and his ways, shows him the real true meaning of love, and at the end, Angela is the one that he wants to be with.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love Should've Brought Yo Ass Home Last Night!
Hey this was an excellent movie. Eddie Murphy looks and acts funny especially when he is trying to look sad. The star studded cast of Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Eartha Kitt, Grace Jones, Robin Givens, Halle Berry, John Witherspoon, Chris Rock, Lela Rochon and David Alan Grier definitely set this movie off. Eddie Murphy does the unthinkable and gets the runaround from Givens...something a playa of his status should never get. From the beginning this movie is excellent, edge of your seat, thrilling romance. THe soundtrack that accompanies the movie is also greatness. This movie is a must have in your collection if you even remotely like Eddie Murphy or any of the said stars in the movie. You'll definitely enjoy this one. ... Read more

The boys are back in town, but they're wearing their carbon-paper suits in this frantic but not nearly as funny sequel to the action-comedy hit. The first time around, the combination of Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte had the element of surprise going for it: Who expected these two to have chemistry? This time, chemistry is virtually all they have in a veritable rehash of the first film. What plot there is has to do with Nolte's needing Murphy (who is just out of jail) to help him clear his own name and save his job on the police force. Director Walter Hill is back in place, but this time the script is the work of action hack Jeb Stuart and the movie barely gives Murphy room to unleash his comic riffs; when he does, we're expecting them (though he's still entertaining). --Marshall Fine ... 3-0 out of 5 stars More of a remake than a sequel
Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) has been tracking an elusive druglord named the Iceman for the last few years. During a botched arrest attempt he discovers that the Iceman has arranged a hit on old friend Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) who's about to be released from prison. Cates is certain to face the loss of his badge if he doesn't wrap this up, so he turns to Hammond to help him bring in the Iceman. Three sadistic bikers (hired by the Iceman) are also hunting the pair, one of whom is the revenge hungry brother of the psycho Cates killed in the first film. Nolte and Murphy still click, and the movie is never boring, but this is basically a rehash with minor changes made here and there. We revisit their fistfights, another redneck bar, another hotel shootout, and so on. One plus is that the profanity has been toned down (at least by Murphy's standards) and there is some exciting gunplay amidst all the shattering glass you would find in a Walter Hill film. Hill might have turned in a much better film had he veered away from all this familar territory.

4-0 out of 5 stars the boys are back in town
they are back. nick nolte and eddie murphy return in this smash hit sequal another 48 hrs. this time around a killer known as the iceman ganza's brother from the first 48 hrs is doing the dirty work and nick nolte is the only cop on the force who thinks he exists. just like before nick and eddie get 2 days to track this guy down. not to many people like this movie, but i thought it was a very good sequal. of course the first is better but this one is very good to. how can you not like it we have a bus that flips over 17 times with eddie murphy in it,eddie murphy holding up another redneck bar,and the ending is very good as well. rated r for strong violence, strong language, and some nudity

4-0 out of 5 stars Can anyone please answer this question???
Why didnt Reggie recognize the Iceman (Detective Keyhoe) in the first movie...In the first movie, Reggie was in the precinct quite often, why didnt he recognize the Iceman then??????

I like this movie, but Reggie was the only one who knew what the Iceman looked like and the Iceman worked right next to Nolte?? his friend??...it is just a huge hole in the plot, but I did find the movie fun

1-0 out of 5 stars Egad!
Should never have been made. A deflated carbon copy of the original. Inaugerated Murphy's early 90's slide. Murphy and Nolte can barely be bothered to show up for this nonsense.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad Sequel! Bad, BAD Sequel!
They get in fistfights again, they still treat eachother like dirt, Eddie does "Roxanne" again, Nolte shoots at the guy holding a gun against Eddie's head again, another redneck bar, the same "sky blue Cadillac", the list goes on and on. Never have I seen a sequel so desperate to cling to its predecessor as this one. And sequels are NOTORIOUS for clinging to their predecessors ("American Pie 2" and "American Wedding" anyone?). It has its moments, but trouble is you've seen most of them before when they were still fresh and original. Worth renting if you're a fan of the original, but certainly not a "must-own". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars If you don't get it...
To the person who gave this movie five stars yet panned this film, this is a film parodying life at a fictional HBCU during its homecoming, with a focus on three groups on campus: "Da Fellas" and their women (the women are known in the "Straight and Nappy" musical bit as the Jiggaboos, a racist term for African-Americans, because the women refuse to relax their hair), the people who would rather urge Mission College to divest from South Africa because of discrimination at that time; Gamma Phi Gamma and the Gammites, men who claim to have true brotherhood but dish out abusive punishments and orders to "obtain" that brotherhood; and the Gamma Rays (also known as the Wannabes because most--note I did not say all--of these women are light-skinned African Americans that relax their hair and are apparently rich), women that are just mere sex objects and trophies to the Gammas. And no, Spike Lee does not play Urkel--otherwise, he'd be wearing suspenders and speaking in an annoying nasal voice. He plays one of the Gammites who just happens to be connected to Dap (Lawrence Fishburne), one of Da Fellas. Of course, during its time, several people didn't understand this film. For example, while "School Daze" was shooting, the then-president of Morehouse kicked Lee and his cast and crew off of the college (Lee's alma mater) for the portrayal of the Mission College school president in the movie, who is dark-skinned. "School Daze" is a parody focusing mainly on colorism (discrimination among African-Americans based on skin tone), such as the view that the lighter your skin is if you're black, the more doors open for you (which was true prior to intergration laws). I really do like this movie, especially the song sequences done by cast members ("Straight and Nappy," "Be Alone Tonight"). I really encourage people to see this film. Although I realize this movie is not considered to be as good as "Do the Right Thing" or "She's Gotta Have It," this movie does have a point, and most people, despite their race, can relate to the themes presented in this movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Messages For Any College Student
The movie "School Daze" is as good in my opinion as many movies on "college life" that it transcends time and never becomes archiaic. actors Giancarlo Esposito,Lawrence Fishburne,Spike Lee and Tisha Campbell give talented performances as students and the best lessons were geared to the girls as when Tisha Campbell learns only too late that "she was being tested" as well by the rules of "eliteness":(don't assume that what's popular is considered protocol). The movie ends with the "ringing of the class bells" at sunrise bringing faculty and students out of their dorms "et al" as Lawrence Fishburne's charactor yells "Wake Up"(e.g alert your mentality to a bettr you via smarter actions).

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting to the Root of Yesterday's and Today's Problems
I have to totally disagree with the editorial review stating the movie doens't come together. The movie does come together speaking of divisions on different planes. Whether it's on the campus of an HBCU or urban city, people of color have come across that division of "wannabees" & "jigaboos". In so many movies, we point our fingers at "them" for not treating us as equals but this movie made us to forcible point at ourselves. It made us look at how we discriminate among ourselves that white is right and black in bad. What is the real purpose of sororities & fraternities. We need to be reminded why HBCUs were built - because we couldn't attend elsewhere because of discrimination - yet we discriminate ourselves. Spike is reminding us to not become lulled into a deep sleep with material trappings (cars, jewelry, etc.) and wake up to reality. We can't stand together if divided among ourselves. I highly recommend this movie. It also allows you to see stars in their early years. I also cherish scenes of the late Phyllis Hyman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings Back Memories!
I saw this film when I was in fifth grade elementary school. It was great seeing it again especially after the black college experience. Mission College...hmm I was there in Atlanta, in "the bottom" and I actually went to the KFC where Samuel L. Jackson's encountered. Brilliant performances by all characters especially at the step show. A must have dvd!

3-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining!!
This definitely was one of Spike's weaker joint's. Though it was refreshing to see entertaining musical numbers in his film. Once again, race is the topic. However he concentrates on black America's preoccupation with light and dark skin. At the end of the film, you're bound to get into a conversation about it. That's the one thing Spike wants, a deep conversation about what we can do to improve relations with each other. ... Read more

This movie follows the unwritten law of sequels: bring back the same characters and put them in similar jeopardy with slightly tweaked circumstances. Instead of a cross-country journey, this time the pet trio must get from the San Francisco airport across the Golden Gate Bridge to their suburban home. Michael J. Fox and Sally Field return as the voices of Chance the bulldog and Sassy the cat, with Ralph Waite replacing the late Don Ameche as the elderly golden retriever. Their journey features dogfights, house fires, an epic battle with a pair of petnappers, and a love affair for Chance with a stray from the other side of the bridge (Carla Gugino). Sinbad voices another dog who guides them through the mean streets of the city by the bay, and Robert Hays stars as the father, but, frankly, that hardly matters. What does is the animals' banter, and they're funny. (Ages 3 and up) --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another amazing journey!
Now it starts off when the family is planning a plane trip to Canada. Chance the american bulldog thinks that instead of going to Canada he is going to the dog pound because his owner Jamie has been mean to him. Chance escapes from the cage and runs through the airport with Shadow the golden retriever and Sassy the Himilayan cat trying to stop him. Now these animals get lost in a city and comes across stray dogs that don't like humans. That really gives a moral lesson to humans about how dogs feel not having a home. Throughout, the animals will come across dog fights, rescuing a boy from a fire, and avoiding dog catchers. During their trip to finding the bridge back home Chance gets a girlfriend named Delilah.
This movie had it's funny moments like the first one but the only sad moment was when Chance lost his girlfriend going back home and almost getting hit by a truck. I would recommend this movie if you liked the first one and see if you like it as much.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Good As The First
This, like the original, was really good. I saw it in the movie theaters when I was little, and had been a big fan of the original before that.

This one takes a good direction: pets lost in the city. I think it is a little funnier than the first. Having all the different dogs around makes the movie more fun, the two bad dogs and Reilly's gang. Chance's girlfriend, Delilah, just got in the way here. I've noticed that in a lot of sequels to Disney originals, a main character falls in love. It gets boring after awhile. Both HOMEWARD BOUND movies are real good, and that's a compliment coming from me, since I'm getting more into the horror genre now. Anyway, defenately rent them both, they're really fun to watch. In my opinion, there should be a HOMEWARD BOUND III made. I wouldn't mind another sequel to finish off the trilogy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Funny Movie
This is a really funny movie for adults and kids! My younger kids like watching it to see the kitty and doggies, and my older kids love the funny jokes!

I recommend this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Family Film
My kids and I thought this movie was fantastic. We watched it right after watching the first movie. After viewing this film my and 8 & 6 year olds were pretending to be the characters in the film, playing with our own dogs and cats. Wholesome family movie. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cruisin in San Francisco!
I loved the video. it was great, not as warm as HB1 but still good. Chance as usual not willing to follow orders and stay in his traveling box to Canada, runs out of the plane, forcing Sassie and Shadow to chase after him. They all wind up in San Francisco. They get rescued by some feral dogs from a couple of mean dogs. Chance falls in love with a dog. 2 dirtylooking mean guys roam around in a red truck catching animals until near the end when the ferals and the trio swamp them. One funny scene had Chance trapped in the red van with other dogs and Sassie on the outside telling him to admit "Cats Rule" in order to be freed. There was a scene where the 2 guys accidentally throw a cigarette at a house which causes a fire and so Shadow goes in to save a little boy and Sassie goes in to save the boy's kitten--this is the same boy that Sassie had tried to beg some food from earlier but Chance had ruined her chances by showing up. funny. It was a really funny, nice, fast video. Shadow as usual was his old and wise self. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid spelled backwards describes ya best
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The plot is simple but executed oh so well. Kid sneaks out his house to go to a party his dad told him not to go to after fighting in school. A tale of running from "hoods" and gettin in more trouble than planned. Without this all star acast this movie would be wack. Martin Lawrence, Robin Harris put in memorable performances. And it also has one the best scenes ever in a movie. The Dance scene where kid n play face off against sidney and charane is one of the most memorable scenes ive ever seen. That alone makes this movie a must have. The battle between Kid n Play is also entertaining. Pick it up.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one party 2 you won't forget.....
House Party is heavy!!! The cast are great and the storyline is actually real, something teens can relate to aswell as parents. Kid's dad makes me laugh! I loved when he said "it was so hot in here last night I swear I saw the devil in here!" Full Force play the school bullies and they played it heavy!! There is one line you won't forget, "I'm gonna kick your f****** ass!" Kid and Play's rhyme battle was really good and Bilal....he's great! There is another line you won't forget, "shut the f*** up Bilal!!!" That's repeatedly said by Kid and Play cos Bilal doesn't know when to shutup!!! I like the music and the whole atmosphere of teens wanting to have fun. But the best part is the dance battle between KidnPlay and Sharane and Sidney. It's HEAVY!!! You'll watch that part over and over trust me!!! The whole movie is just great and you'll laugh a lot. It's also great for memories for those who grew up in the 90's, especially the music and dancing. Trust me when I say GET THIS!!! By the way I aint seen house party 3+4 but I've seen the 2nd one. It's not as good but it's good to watch at least once or twice still. But the 1st one...a DEFINITE MUST HAVE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop ready to start!
House party 1,2 and 3 are the best parts to ever be a complete sucess after Kid'n'Play finally done all three movies of House party and had made so many soundtracks for the motion picture.I will always remember how Kid'n'Play made this a no.1 movie of the year so everyone can see how it was back in those days. However,House Party 4 tried the best they could do in order to bring new laughter into the sequel.Unfortunaly,it was considered to be known as a dismal failure.

5-0 out of 5 stars HIIP!!!!
This is a great video I loved this movie when it had came out and I still love it today it is one of my favorite comedies Martin Lawrence, Kid'N' Play, Tisha Campbell, Full Force , and others I enjoyed this movie and I still do today it is a funny scene in every part of this movie I liked the part when the cop called "KID" eraser head that was so funny I like the whole movie!!!! Anyone who likes parties or Kid 'N Play then I would recommend that you buy this album it is great and you will definitely enjoy it!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars THE CLASSIC HIP HOP COMEDY
IN THIS SLEEPER HIT, A TEENAGER PLANS TO GO TO A PARTY BEING THROWN AT HIS FRIEND'S HOUSE. BUT, JUST HOURS BEFORE THE PARTY, HE GETS IN TROUBLE AT SCHOOL WITH SOME TOUGH GUYS AND HIS FATHER FINDS OUT ABOUT IT AND GROUNDS HIM. VERY GOOD AND VERY FUNNY. THIS MOVIE IS A TRIP BACK TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF HIP HOP WHEN IT WASN'T ABOUT GUNS, DRUGS, HOODS, OR COLORS. THIS MOVIE SHOWS HOW RAP USED TO BE ALL ABOUT PARTYING, WHICH IS WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT SO MUCH. AND THE RHYME BATTLE BETWEEN KID AND PLAY IS ENTERTAINING TO WATCH TOO. FOLLOWED BY 3 SEQUELS [THE LAST ONE WENT DIRECT TO VIDEO]. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Another case of a disappointing sequel
This movie was disappointing, although not a total washout. Martin Lawrence as Bilal still made me laugh, but some of the scenes had recycled jokes and even preachy tones. The scenes where Kamron (of Young Black Teenagers) as Jamal, a white kid who talks black, shows up were so gimmicky it was scary. But one funny scene was when the party was hopping from apartment to apartment while Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" was playing in the background. Still, all of the best jokes were given away in the trailers, and they weren't even all that funny. The following two sequels are even worse, so just stick with the first House Party.

5-0 out of 5 stars A anytime movie when you just want to kick back and chill.
This movie is funny and relaxing. It really puts you bcak in the day when everything was just alright. Watch this movie and "roll" with Kid 'n' Play! And if you love Martin Lawrence then you will love this movie. House Party 1 and 3 are also recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Boom,Shaka-laka-laka!!!
This is one of the most funniest films that would really want to make you laugh harder and harder and completely HARDER!!!No other comedy film is as good as House Party 2!Peace,everybody!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars THIS SEQUEL IS A BIT TOO MORALISTIC AT TIMES
IN THE 1ST SEQUEL, KID GOES TO COLLEGE BUT, REALIZES THAT HE LEFT HIS COLLEGE MONEY WITH PLAY WHO'S GIVEN THE MONEY AWAY TO A CON ARTIST CLAIMING TO BE A RECORD COMPANY EXECUTIVE. MOST OF THE FUNNIEST MOMENTS COME FROM MARTIN LAWRENCE, WHO RETURNS AS BILAL. THIS SEQUEL IS A LITTLE BIT MORALISTIC AT TIMES, WHICH IS NOT WHAT THE HOUSE PARTY TRADITION IS ABOUT. ESCAPES A TWO STAR RATING ONLY BECAUSE IT IS THAT MUCH BETTER THAN THE NEXT TWO HOUSE PARTIES THAT WOULD FOLLOW.

4-0 out of 5 stars JUST AS GOOD AS THE FIRST!!!
House Party 2 proved to be just as good as the first. The characters were better and the dialouge and plot made more sense but the lack of his foul mouthed father really crippled it's rating.

This movie delivers a better message than the first but the lack of Robin Harris really sucks (he died shortly after the House Party movie) However Jamal can be funny yet utterly offensive (he is a white guy who thinks he is black).

Lots of messages and innuendos in this movie to convince the viewers to stay in school. Recoomended to troubled youths. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a cute love story, with comedy thrown in!
Sprung is the story of 4 friends Clyde (Joe Torry), Adina (Paula Jai Parker), Brandy (Tisha Campbell) and Montel (Rusty Cundieff) . Clyde and Adina who are both playas hook up immediately and Adina finds out that Clyde isn't the rich man she thought he was and hilarity ensues (check the scene with Clyde riding on top of Adina's car in only his jockey underwear). Meanwhile against Clyde and Adina's wishes, Brandy and Montel fall in love and are truly happy. Clyde and Adina conspire to break up their friends's happy relationship, accusing the twosome of being "Sprung". Overall this is a very sweet romance and it also very funny. I've worn out my video and recently purchased this on DVD and I"m quite happy I did and I think you should get it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love this movie
This is a cute romantic comedy, that will leave you laughing, and laughing some more. You have Adina, Clyde, Montell and Brandy. Adina and Brandy are friends who meet Clyde and Montell (who are also friends) at a party. Adina is the typical "you have to have serious money to date me" type of attitude. The more money a guy has, the better your chance of dating her. Clyde thinks he is a player, but he is actually a faker. He has keys to a Porsche that does not belong to him, and he goes to banks to get bank slips that don't belong to him with high bank balances to show he has money. Adina gets a peek at one of his bank slips gets woozy, and Clyde offers to take her home. When Adina finds out later that Clyde is not "clocking major figures" she take his car, and he chases her down in a hilarious scene. After all of that turns out Brandy and Montell date, and Clyde and Adina can't have that!!! They set out to ruin the relationship, and chaos ensues. This movie is one of my favorites. If you are the type of person who likes extras you get a Featurette, Cast and Crew information and a trailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A different kind of movie.
An unusual romantic comedy. If you really look at the plot, the movie could have been written for individuals of any culture. I enjoyed how they showed that African Americans not only come in diffrent hues, but different personality/cultural traites. Not all of us who love out culture are hip to the latest slang or want to be. Also, there was not nudity, guns, or violence(a very nice change from the norm).
One of Tisha campbells better roles, the ensemble had great chemistry. I especially enjoyed the surprize ending.

1-0 out of 5 stars Girl... you know you want deeeez nutz
The title of my review says it all... one of the all-time classic lines in the history of cinema is in this movie... "Girl, you know you want deez nutz."

2-0 out of 5 stars It had such potential
Okay, so it wasn't exactly great, but I didn't hate it. Tisha campbell is pretty much playing that same "Gina" role only instead of a wise-cracking homeboy she is this time paired with an artsy type dude. This movie is about the two trying to make love work while their two jealous, and trifling, pals plot to split them up. And that Leonard Maltin review is dead wrong because this movie is NOT about their friends trying to plan a wedding. There is a wedding scene, but that is at the end of the movie and was more of a surprise ending than the central theme.

Cundieff is certainly sincere in his role, but his character was uneven. His turns at trying to be hip and using slang fell flat. But contrasted with the horrible stereotypical performances of Parker and Torrey, I'd say that Cundieff was a welcome respite.

On the whole this movie is worth renting if you just want something very light hearted and silly. ... Read more
