I gave this anime four stars because the plot in the beginning is a bit hard to follow--Daisuke Aurora, J's human partner, is investigating an entity known as "The Shop", which is smuggling illegal goods and allowing illegal immigrants (not to mention an android, which except for J, are forbidden) into the city. There are mob-style hits on whoever seems to be connected with this smuggling activity, but eventually I just give up on trying to figure it out and watch the show. The visuals are really compelling (nice mix of CGI and cel-style animation) and the action is well done. Looking forward to the next disc!
Filled with eye-catching visuals, Heat Guy J centers around a cop and his android partner in the near future called "J". Of course J is super-strong, can jump farther than the Hulk and has more electronic scanning equipment than an FBI surveillance van; very cool. Also, J and his partner have to contend with a crazy 19 year old mob boss and his enhanced henchmen. Some critics have compared this to the great "Cowboy Beebop" but I think that is like comparing apples and oranges. Heat Guy J is an original series well worth your time and cash.
Being a TV series, it lacks the hard edge and gritty, bloody violence of an earlier wave of OAV sci-fi crime thrillers that included "Midnight Eye Goku," "Cyber City Oedo 808" and "A.D. Police Files." Also, the design of the young hero seems more inspired by boy band pop idols than by crime-fighting anime predecessors like Goku in "Midnight Eye Goku" and Taki in "Wicked City." The plots, at least on the basis of the first four episodes, are not as intricate or compelling as those of the series cited above and are probably this series' weak points. Daisuke's chief problem appears to be the Leonelli crime family, the stewardship of which has been newly inherited by Clair, the young, body-pierced, somewhat unhinged son of the family's previous Don or "Vampire," as the position is inexplicably called here. Perhaps the true nature of their threat to the heroes will become clearer as the series progresses. The series is set in a sprawling metropolis (in which police cars are marked by both English and Japanese lettering) that's an amalgam of future urban centers, resembling San Francisco in some shots, and Tokyo and Hong Kong in others. There's a nice sense of the city's back alley flavor, as manifested in its immigrant cultural mix, open air markets and red light district.

Episode 91, "The Magic of Feng Shui: Kamiya Dojo is Targeted," involves a lot of exposition to explain what is going on with all those pentegrams on the map of Tokyo. It seems that at the start of the Tokugawa Shogunate a series of shrines were built by Ieyasu Tokugawa (circa 1603) that helped to define triangles in which evil spirits would be sealed. The triangles were joined to make penegrams which make them even more powerful and provide a clean chi for the great city. The "Circle of Eternity," defined by Mt. Fuji, the gulf of Edo, and the two great rivers, has been built and maintained by the Wind Clan. But the Water Clan wants their own circles and has returned to try and destroy the Circle of Eternity so that what happened to China with the Opium War will happen to Japan as well. So basically the fate of the nation is once again at stake for Kenshin and the gang, this time from the threat of a form of Chinese astrology. Episode 92, "Tokyo Under Martial Law: The Deadly Ryu Myaku" is about the effort to defeat the giant "dragon" of the Wind Clan, while Episode 93, "The Enemy Awaits in Senjo Gahara: In Search of the Jade Crest" actually has a key personal element as Kenshim finally resolves to live with his past, which has key consequences for the Hitokiri Battousai and his reverse blade sword. The battle climaxes in Episode 94, "The Elegey of Wind and Water: A Last Desperate Effort." The Feng Shui story arc is a bit over the top, but this is what happens when you keep trying to up the ante with each story line. By fans of "Rurouni Kenshin" have already agreed that the Kyoto story arc was the highlight of the series. Then we come to the end of the road with Episode 95, "End of Wanderings: The Bond of Scarlet and Azure is in the Sound of the Sea." As the title indicates, this is a rather poetic ending to the series in an episode that uses film for some interesting effects (including having characters animated into the film). The episode has two functions, the first being to resolve the situation between Kenshin and Kaoru, and the second to be a curtain call for the cast of characters. The latter takes away from the former a bit as we get flashbacks on series highlights, but the episode does achieve a sense of the lyrical on how it resolves the situation. I was afraid they were going to use some comic bit again to do this, as with Sanosuke and Megumi, but they actually come up with a small series of moments to play out the end song, and the final line spoken in the series is both appropriately simple and important. I was rather surprised to find out that these 95 episodes all took place within half a year, but they beyond the specific period of the Meiji Restoration I was not paying attention to the dates. So when we find out at the end that it is late summer in the 11th year of the Meiji (1878), there was no special significance to me. There is an impressive set of liner notes for this final DVD edition along with the usual sprinkling of outtakes and some trailers. Originally published in "Weekly Shonen Jump Japan" in 1994, "Rurouni Kenshin" was created in manga form by Nobuhiro Watsuki and ended up being told in 28 manga volume, these 95 episodes, and two OVA specials. The problem was that Watsuki was still working on completing the Jinchuu story arc when the Kyoto arc animation was done and anime original episodes were created as filler, which is why the ratings for the show plummeted in Japan and why we see such a noticeable drop off in quality in the Tales of the Meiji episodes. Still, overall this is one of the better anime series out there, despite its problem with coming up with really good story arcs after the Kyoto high point. The characters, the attention to strategic details in the sword fights, and the backdrop of Japanese history (not to mention the comic elements) make it stand out apart from its competition. As much as I was happy to see a resolution to the romantic subplot of the series I was more impressed that the reverse sword idea came to an appropriate conclusion as well.
something else, everyone who has a narrow minded opinion of the filler episodes saying there "bad, unfit to watch, and an abomination of kenshin, and that they don't fit the manga" can go get raped by 5 elephants and then go hang themselves because everything in the kenshin series includeing the fillers are awesome I enjoyed everyone of the filler episodes and screw anyone who did'nt because in the end it depends on what the individual thinks. and furthermore to anyone who thinks differently about anything i've said in this review you are irrelevant to my kenshin happiness so SCREW YOU ALL!!!!.

As to the story, it won't win any awards but it is good nevertheless. Those who see "Blade Runner" are correct since that classic movie can be called the father of the cyberpunk genre of sci-fi. This is a cyberpunk series and it owes a lot to "Blade Runner", but it is not that movie. "Armitage III" is a tale of two cops, Ross and Armitage. Ross was a cop in Chicago who's partner was killed by a cyborg. As such, he hates cyborgs and other robotic creations, though ironically, he has a robotic leg. He then transfers to Mars and is partnered with the female Armitage. No sooner than he arrives then Armitage uncovers a murder at the spaceport. The murdered victim is a very famous female country singer, but everyone is shocked when it is discovered she is a robot. While cyborgs and androids are common, robots who look and act exactly like a real human are not supposed to exist. These are known as "Type III" robots. Many themes are explored in this series. First are the roles of androids/robots in society. Normal androids are treated like slaves. Type III's have a will and are no one's slave. Also, the roles of men and women in society are explored. Earth has become a feminist nation and on Mars, men have fled to female androids for companionship. So is it OK for women to be strong, yet still be women (and not try to be like a man)? Is it OK for a human to love a human-like robot and vice versa? I love Armitage as she's my favorite type of heroine. The romance between her and Ross isn't overplayed so don't worry about mush. Yet it is touching just the same. The art and animation are good. It didn't start out as good in the first episode, but improves a lot by the time episode 4 rolls around. The music is rooted in cyberpunk and those who've seen anime titles like "Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040" or "Divergence Eve" will see the music there is very similar. There's just a lot of good things about this and after seeing it, I am happy to purchase this title. Bottom line: Skip the movie "Armitage III Poly-Matrix" which is just a hack job of this series and watch this title instead. If you've already seen the movie and liked it, you'll like this more.
The Series is the best ARMITAGE III, BUY IT,if you even liked movie BUY IT, its worth every cent!!!! And if you hated the movie you still gotta love this one. Oh and before I leave, the Series came first, then the movie.
First off, the storytelling in the OVA is slightly better (if you couldn't follow the first film, then you must have ADD or dyslexia...it's not that complicated). The additional scenes that were left out of the film version help give a better flow to the action and a better sense of plot. Extra scenes with Pluto/Julian give more to why Armitage actually cared for his character. And we also have a better sense of how D'Anclaude kept popping up. Some scenes are just done differently, like Ross' flashback (which is a lot more violent and I dare say cliched in the OVA) or even D'Anclaude's first fight with Ross in the church. There's better character development in the OVA as well, especially for the smaller parts like the other cops. The dialogue is pretty much intact (a rarity for animes...the English movie version actually holds up pretty well in keeping the dialogue the same), and the music is still awesome. All-in-all, if you liked the movie, the OVA will not disappoint. It's different, but the addition of certain sequences and bits of dialogue do help give a better flow to the story. The scenes that are left out or altered from the movie give the OVA its own feel. The special features on anime DVD's are always a joy, especially for a graphic designer like myself or anybody with an interest in art. The "Armitage III" OVA is a treat for fans of cyberpunk, for fans of sci-fi, for fans of anime, and for fans of Armitage. Buy it! It's well worth it.
Ross Sylibus has done what many cops do. Memories too intense he has left earth to become a detective in the Martian Police Department. His new partner is Naomi Armitage, a wisecracking, independent cop who dresses like a street girl. Their first assignment is to solve a string of murders where the victims are all beautiful robots. Special robots that are so close to human that they can become pregnant. They find a lunatic behind the killings and a web of conspiracy behind the lunatic. The relationship between Naomi and Ross moves past an argumentative partnership as they discover some of the truths about each other in their struggle to stop a wave of anti-robot sentiment that seems about to overwhelm the Martian colony. Their feelings for each other tells is what human really means, even if it is clear to the end that few on either world really understand. Director Hiroyuki Ochi has created a series that owes much to 'Bladerunner,' but avoids being a hackneyed copy for all its borrowing of plot devices. The aggressive role played by Naomi sets the two films apart, underlying the core humanity of the Type III robots that have been queued up for slaughter when they have outlived their use. Visually the film work and illustration are deeply satisfying, using a style that is more naturalistic than the anime stylings to which we've become accustomed. It is difficult to talk about work done in 1994 as 'seminal,' but the OVA and the related film had a great deal of effect on other anime. Consider this a must see.

Now, as for what happens in this volume (And I'll warn you, there are spoilers ahead, so don't complain if you read them. You've had fair warning.)... After the second uprising, Kazuma joined an underground fighting ring, basically the same as illegal dog fights, except with Alters. He lost most of his will to fight, but he keeps being reminded of Ryuhou and winning all his fights. Asuka and Mimori show up, looking for Ryuhou (Cougar had given them a report that indicated he might be there). However, when they find Kazuma instead of Ryuhou, they go and ask him why he's there. He tells them only to get lost, and so they leave. Soon after, Kazuma decides he's bored and breaks his way out, after collecting his prize money and killing the guy in charge. Meanwhile, Ryuhou is still at the Inner camp, where he is asked to stay to protect the people there. A HOLD patrol unit (which, coincidentally, is led by Scheris and Urizane) shows up, and Scheris and Urizane are shocked to find Ryuhou with amnesia. Sou Kigetsuki and the Tokonatsu Three Sisters (who, coincidentally, are part of Kigetsuki's Alter), with the help of Unkei, try and rewrite Ryuhou's memory... with a twist. Eventually he figures it out, fights them, and officially quits HOLY, along with Scheris. However, when the Inners figure out Ryuhou is an Alter User, they kick him out of the villiage. Kazuma decides to go to the mainland, but his plans are interrupted by Ayase, who has returned from the mainland and is being blackmailed into fighting him. Biff also returns, but he's being mind-controlled by HOLD. Ayase then starts fighting with Kazuma, with her newly refined Alter. However, she dies, and Kazuma tries to kill Kyouji Mujou, after he finds out he was responsible. Unfortunately, he gets sucked into the Other Side again. Kanami, Scheris, and Ryuhou see the light from the encounter, and Kanami sets out to find Kazuma, followed by Ryuhou. Later, Asuka and Mimori are driving around when Biff shows up to catch Mimori. Asuka fights him, uses the Eternity Extra Shot (which, I might add, is incredibly cool), but he loses. Biff's about to kill him when Zetsuei shows up and beats him. Thus Mimori is reunited with Ryuhou (happyness!). Later that day, Kazuma is walking toward the city when he's interrupted by his childhood friend, Cougar. They end up fighting, and we see the alloy version of Radical Good Speed for the first time. Kazuma's losing pretty badly, but Cougar isn't there to beat him up... he's actually there to give Kazuma some important info on HOLY and Ryuhou. Thus concludes episode 18, with two of the coolest fights in the series so far (Asuka vs. Biff and Kazuma vs. Cougar). And thus concludes all spoilers. To rephrase what I said: GO. BUY. NOW. !!!!

First Macross, Area 88, Macross Plus and now Yukikaze. The story is similar to these prior anime series focusing on the planes and the pilots troubles. The show graphically is beautiful, albeit a bit dark with muted colors. Some of the shots of the sunset/sunrise skies are just gorgeous. The CGI is well done. The story is not overly original, man vs. machine, but the execution of the story is what makes it great. The characters are likeable and you feel sympathy for those who get shot down. The action sequences are just great. It is a blast watching the planes turn and bank, shoot and get shot down, kick in the afterburners and do other arial acrobatics. There was a scene in episode 1 that almost made my jaw drop, sort of something like Tony Hawk would, but with a plane. I cannot wait until the rest of the series is out! Carpe DM www.xanga.com/Rander

The graphics are amazing! Some people don't like the 2D caracters on the 3D backgrounds as I take it from their reviews. I actually love it! It gives the show a neat effect that you don't usually see in any other anime! It brings the story to life in a sense. It is VERY cool looking! I also LOVE the plot in general! the caracters are well developed with personalities and habits. I can relate to some of them, and understand their feelings! The story is kind of mysterious in a way, and always leaves me with that feeling. It's very cool to know that a show leaves me like that, making it enjoyable for me to watch. You piece the story together bit by bit to find out new things! I feel quite emotional when watching this show. You take a ride through the characters minds and feelings. It gets quiet addictive! There is not much action though. It is based more on the storyline itself through mysteries and ideas. I watch ALOT of anime and I must say I rate this show as one of my favorites! To help you decide whether ot not you may enjoy this, I will list what other shows I watch and enjoy: Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo, Dragonball Z, and I think Dragonabll, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Gundam Wing are ok. If you like all or most of those shows as well, this is a MUST HAVE! I suggest buying the whole series! I know I will eventually (when i get a DVD player!)
Mankind built huge mechas called Ingrids or Goddesses. The candidates must first train to become one of the 5 Goddess pilots. They go to the Goddess Opperating Accademy or GOA. And when they become pilots they go to GIS. And..... The story follows 5 candidates. The main character is Zero Enna. He is a hyper boy and can't stop talking about his dream to pilot the White Ingrid that saved him when he was younger. He has a rival named Hiead and friends Yamagi, Roose, Clay, and another senior named Erts whose brother is a pilot. I love the anime and I'm getting the DVDs. It came on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network but was cancelled for some strange reason.

Gene Starwind is your average guy. He owns Starwind & Hawking Enterpries with his friend Jim Hawking. They both have adventures with an assassin, a babe android, a Ctal Ctal who will rip your arms off of thier sockets if you call her an animal, and the coumpter of the Outlaw Star! There's some nudity in the show, but this isn't a porno anime. A must-see!
Outlaw Star tells the tale of Gene Starwind and Jim Hawking. Who inevitably end up leaving there home planet and getting caught up in a race for the Galactic Layline. On there way they will meet lots of friends and enemies such as Melfina, the McDougal Bros., Aisha Clan Clan of the Ctarl Ctarl, Sazukie Twilight and a whole bunch more in this action series from bandai that keeps you laughing while it delivers great action. What is the Galactic Layline? Well people say that at the Galatic Layline can be found a great treasure. But if you wanna know more you'll have to get the dvd's (or the tapes). Outlaw Star can also be seen on the Cartoon Networks Toonami (although they cut a bit). Anyway I hope this review was helpful. Be sure to check out my review of the Outlaw Star spinoff, Angel Links.

Basic story line is an international art thief hires hit men with lots of equipment to recover a statue. Parallel to this is the story of a woman who thinks her husband is boring and goes on vacation. Too bad for both groups as hubby shows up to recover wife and just happens to have extraordinary military skills.
The dialog is just plain stupid. I understand that the writer of this movie has gone back to working for a lawn maintenance company, and is given nothing more complicated than trimming shrubs.

Anyway, in this volume some interesting things happen (Spoilers ahead, don't read 'em if you don't want to know. You've been warned.) After his last fight with Emergy Maxfell, Kazuma was unconscious for two days. He wakes up mad - really mad and heads to meet Kanami so he can eat and then go find some more HOLY members to beat up. However, he and Kimishima discover that the farm Kanami works at was destroyed by HOLY. Kazuma starts fighting with the guilty members, the Darth Dozens (or Dars). Kimishima goes out and finds Kanami, until the two are captured by HOLD and taken to the same place where the rest of the farm workers are being held. The news stations find out about the fight and get footage, which is broadcast on TV and seen by Mimori, Asuka, all of HOLY and HOLD, Kimishima... and Kanami. Kanami finally finds out that Kazuma is an Alter User and why he's always been running off, and she and Kimishima escape from HOLD to go find Kazuma. Kimishima drops Kanami off on the way, to keep her away from the fight, and finds Kazuma. He helps him win, but falls unconscious. Kazuma carries him back to Kanami, but he dies on the way. This Kazuma gets really mad and starts attacking HOLD units. Ryuhou goes after him, but finds Kanami, and Kazuma catches Scheris. Each angered by the actions of the other, they find each other and start fighting. Neither one really wins, because Kazuma's second-level Shell Bullet opens up a gate to the Other Side - a land of psychadelic Altery-ness that generally gives you a headache if you watch it too long. This causes another earthquake and land upheaval, throwing the Lost Ground back into chaos. Eight months later, both Kazuma and Ryuhou are missing. Kanami is captured and used as slave labor by an Alter User named Dread Red, until a mysterious stranger comes along and stars fighting with the overseers and Dread Red's Alter (which I think is called the Delay Octopus... in any case, it's a big, ugly squidlike thing). Our mysterious hero turns out to be none other than...Ryuhou... with total amnesia? The volume stops there in a massive cliffhanger, so you'll have to go get volume four to find out what happens, but it really is an awesome addition to the series, so go check it out if you liked the first two volumes.
