An adventure in mediocrity
Better than Little Nicky, far from Happy Gilmore, and on about the same level as The Waterboy, Mr. Deeds is decent, but not all that great. Adam Sandler plays Longfellow Deeds, a good man with a somewhat short temper, but ultimately mild mannered. When it is determined that he is the son of a recently deceased billionaire, he inherits the entire estate. The premise sounds good, and apparently it did before as it is based on the movie, "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town." That however doesn't help this movie. What does push it forward is some good acting, inventive characters, and a decent plot. Sandler has the ability to get more cameos into a movie than I thought physically possible. Al Sharpton, John MacEnroe (forgive the spelling), Rob Schneider, Kathy Bates, and others all wind up in this film and do an excellent job in supporting Sandler. Detracting seriously from the film though is Winnona Ryder. Why on Earth she is still an actress boggles my mind. She plays her part horribly and just sounds so atrocious. Her, and the dips in comedic action pull this film down 2 stars. Overall though it could be worse, given everything it's not that bad. It's an enjoyable film that can be viewed a few times without the effect wearing off.

Good rebound for Sandler after the "Nicky" bomb
I'm not going to compare this movie (tho loosely based) to the 1936 classic with Gary Cooper, "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town". Sure, the basic storyline is the same, but that's it. Cooper & Sander are totally different actors in totally different times. Cooper was a classic actor with a flair for some comedy, where Sandler is a comedian with a flair for some acting. "Deeds" did fairly well at the box office in 2002. Sandler proved there was life after his previous bomb, "Little Nicky". A great cast with Winona Ryder, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro - stealing the show with his "sneaky" one liners and his incurable foot fetish. You'll recognize some supporting cast members from some of Sandler's previous flicks ("Wedding Singer, "Big Daddy", etc). Tho on the short side of today's movie standards (approx 90 minutes), this film is enjoyable on all levels. Sandler is more of the naive bumbling comedian here (remniscent of his role in "Wedding Singer"), rather than relying on gross humor geered toward the older adolescent male movie watchers. Included on this DVD are the standard feature length commentaries, outtakes & deleted scenes, and miscellanious featurettes. For those Sandler fans, I put this one behind the classics "The Wedding Singer" and "Happy Gilmore"... but well above "The Waterboy", "Big Daddy" and "Little Nicky".

What the.........!?
Here's something you don't see everyday: an expectation that a movie will be good based on who stars in it being completely shafted. Actually, I get that feeling quite a bit, but never like this. Adam has been in some great movies (Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, and, despite what everyone else seems to say about it, I loved Little Nicky). However, this movie is complete garbage, and those responsible for this Godforsaken piece of crap should be burned at the stake. I guess this was supposed to be based on an earlier version of this movie (Mr. Deeds goes to town or whatever), and I hope to God that movie is at least 100X better than this waste of space.

Let me get right to the point. This movie tanked from start to finish. Few movies have accomplished this, but this one does so as if doing so is a no-brainer. What I remember of the beginning is lame and boring, the freaks that Adam hangs around must have some sort of mental retardation (if you've seen the movie, you know I'm not talking about stupidity that is funny, but just plain retardation that sucks), and H-O-L-Y CRAP Winona Rider is in the movie; nuff said! The best part of the moive (and I say best only to emphasize how bad this movie is) is when Rider's character kicks the overweight pizza store manager in the crotch, and she says "What are you kickin there for? I ain't got no b*lls!" Geeeezzzzz.......I couldn't even try to laugh at this nonsense; what was Adam thinking? By the way, Adam is very mellow in this movie (except for a couple of scenes where he beats someone up, but it's not even near funny this time), just like in Waterboy, but without the lousy accent (thank God!). He writes poems for greeting cards for Christ's sake!!! How much more of a loser can you be? I guess he's trying to model himself after Jason Biggs (which is about as low as you can go). Just get me a gun so I can put this movie and myself out of our misery!

It's not what you got in the bank.....
Adam Sandler in another formula feel-good romantic comedy. As a simple guy in a New England Hicks-Town, Sandler is loved all the towns-folk for his cheerful disposition and his magical way of always wanting to help people out. When he is snatched away from his little piece of Paradise to accept a 40 billion dollar inheritance from a media tycoon in NYC, a snowball-effect of events starts to roll.

Vaguely similar to Steve Martin's "The Jerk", but sadly quite predictable and far fetched. Many side-gags for pop-culture buffs are included. The best one's are a take on "Mr. French" and references to the Sunday Funny Papers. The frequent "appearing/disappearing act" of the butler character at first is spooky, but works well with the surprise at the end. The final scene (I won't give it away) is a cute way of showing how much Deeds wants to help out the little people. Some of the "cut scenes" are hilarious, although some (like the pizza delivery) are a bit risque. Otherwise, this is safe bet for all ages. A very pleasant film.****

The original Mr. Deeds Goes to Town was given a three and a half out of four star rating on cable, but this version was only given one star.

Adam Sandler vaulted into the $20-million-salary stratosphere with this, his second $100-million hit in 1998--a movie that further shows just how deeply embedded he is in the Jerry Lewis tradition of idiot comedy. He plays Bobby Boucher, a backwoods Cajun and a mentally challenged individual with a fixation on water: specifically, on serving the coolest, most refreshing H2O available to the college football team he has served since he was an adolescent. But when he's fired from his position, he takes up a similar job with a lowlier college team coached by neurotic Henry Winkler. One day at practice, Bobby loses his temper and delivers a bone-shaking tackle to the starting quarterback; before he can say, "blackened crawdads," he's the star of the team and leading it to a bowl game. But it's all against the wishes of his overprotective mother (Kathy Bates), who wants to keep her Bobby to herself--and that includes keeping him away from the floozy girlfriend (Fairuza Balk) who's sweet on him. The Waterboy-- Proof of the " I like Adam Sandler Syndrome"
The Waterboy left me scratching my head after watching it on DVD. I found myself wondering why this movie made so much damn money. Adam Sandler was pathetic in his role as a backwoods dullard that went from waterboy to football superstar. He seemed to be playing a much dumber and annoying Forest Gump. Kathy Bates as the insanely overprotective mother was much less annoying than Sandler but still could have been better. It seemed to me that "The Waterboy" tried too hard to make her funny in every seen. Too much snake eating, squirrel shocking, and hair brushing. The whole reference to "the devil" was too repetitive. The transition from her insanity to sanity in the whole hospital scene had no foundation. I thought Henry Winkler was okay as the Football coach with a few nuts and bolts loose. The scene with the Roy Orbison tatoo was shamefully the most intelligent in the movie. Farmer Fran was a total enigma to me. Was it supposed to be funny that you had absolutely no idea what he was saying? I always think that its what people say and do that is funny not what they sound like or move like. I'm not a big fan of the whole waterboy- gets-hit-with-football-everbody-giggle-philosophy.

A feel-good comedy featuring Sandler at his funniest
While The Wedding Singer will probably always be my favorite Adam Sandler movie, The Waterboy is by far his funniest, and I think I actually enjoy this film more each time I watch it. It is the perfect answer for a bad day, as not only is it hilarious and uplifting, it lets you take out some of your own pent-up aggression with each powerful hit Bobby Boucher (Sandler) makes out on the football field. Bobby represents everyone who has ever been excluded, picked on, or ridiculed. While he is not an intellectual giant and does not possess what you call people skills, his kind and simple nature makes him a man among men even before he finds stardom on the gridiron. The boy certainly loves his mama, and Kathy Bates shines in her role as the overprotective, quirky, slightly touched in the head Helen Boucher. If anyone ever questioned Bates' ability to do comedy, this movie should banish all doubts. Fairuza Balk is strangely beguiling as Vicki Vallencourt, a "bad girl" who has long had an interest in Bobby over his mother's objections, and the two make a really strange yet somehow logical couple. Bobby's mother describes Vicki as "the devil," but of course she considers just about every person on the planet besides herself and Bobby to be "the devil."

Bobby's real passion in life is his job as waterboy for the local college football team, a real powerhouse coached by Coach Red Beaulieu (Jerry Reed). When he gets fired, he goes seeking water management employment at South Central Louisiana State University, a legendarily bad team coached by Coach Klein, a very un-Fonzie-like Henry Winkler. When Coach Klein convinces Bobby to defend himself against the taunts of team members, he finds himself looking at a natural-born linebacker. Mama does not want her son playing "foosball," but what Mama does not know won't hurt her (Bobby ingeniously blames all of the cuts and scrapes he acquires during the season on an escaped gorilla). He records a record-shattering sixteen quarterback sacks in his first game, drawing national attention from the real-life sportscasters of ESPN. A magical season unfolds at SCLSU, setting up a Bourbon Bowl meeting of the little college who could and mean old Coach Beaulieu's undefeated championship squad. At this point, certain complications arise, a secret history between Coaches Beaulieu and Klein is revealed, and SCLSU's dream season stands on the point of suddenly becoming a nightmare.

This is not a high-brow comedy, but there is nothing wrong with corny comedy as long as it is funny, and The Waterboy is, to repeat myself, hilarious. Football fans will definitely get a kick out of the way Bobby just destroys his opponents on the field, using several moves that you will not see in the NFL any time soon in the process (certainly not more than once). Perhaps overlooked in the midst of all the comedy is a more serious theme, however. This movie is a story of overcoming obstacles, believing in yourself, and redemption, not just for the ultimate underdog Bobby Boucher but for his mother, Coach Klein, and several other characters. You almost have to feel pumped up and happy in the end, and that counts for a lot in and of itself. Sometimes the good guys do come out on top, or so most of us like to believe in order to get through each day. The Waterboy helps us keep our faith and inspires us to rise above all of the bad things in life and concentrate on such simple yet important matters as family, friendship, love, and always doing your best.

This is one of Adam Sandler's best movies.
The Waterboy is a movie that doesn't require a lot of brain power to figure out, but it's loaded with comedy and hilarious lines from Adam Sandler. One particular part of the movie that I love is when he is in a college class dealing with the agression center of animals and Bobby is asked why alligators are such aggressive creatures. Since his Mama was supposedly right about everything, his answer was "Mama says that alligators are angry 'cause they got all those teeth and no toothbrush." That's comedy, man! Simple comedy, maybe, but it's funny all the same! This is definitely a must-have for any Adam Sandler fan. If you don't like Adam Sandler, then you're not going to like this movie. End of story.

Torn
This movie is very funny in some aspects, however it's very hard to laugh or enjoy in comparison to Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison. I really loved Adam Sandler, however any movie made after Billy or Happy just seemed to lag off really badly, (i.e. Little Nicky, Big Daddy and various others)

I wasn't too thrilled with this one, except Kathy Bates, Blake Clark and Henry Winkler pretty much saved it from drowning (bad pun I know) in its own title.

I'm kind of disappointed with this movie, but I wouldn't say not to watch it or buy it because if you love stupid comedy like I do, then you'll like this. I'm more apt to rent it rather than own it (if I didn't own it already)

50 First Dates is an above average Sandler movie.Unfourtanetly that's not real good.I liked this movie, but the crude humor was extreme.At first it's not that big of a deal, but after a while it gets old; even if it is funny.This is a times a delightful romantic comedy; with both the lead characters acting and emotional depth.The acting isn't bad even with Rob Schneider .The dialogue isn't to terrible at the end, but the movie is pretty predictable in many aspects whichs makes it just another Sandler film.The plot was different though and I liked that.If you are in the mood for another Sandler movie then you will most definetly want to check 50 First Dates.

Unfortunately, Lucy lost her short-term memory months ago in a car accident, and for her, each day is October the 13th. She follows the same routine every day--breakfast at the same restaurant, pineapple-picking with her dad, and eventually bed time, where sleep wipes away her short-term memory. Henry, however, refuses to be forgotten, and as his puppy love matures, he embarks on a quest to restore her memory, or at least be a part of her everyday routine. But vying for Lucy's attention isn't always easy. Sandler explores various neophytic approaches before making a video for Lucy to watch every morning, reminding her of who she is and what she's doing. The film includes a trademark Sandler ballad as Henry serenades Lucy with his ukulele and a series of familiar salacious puns. Rob Schneider plays Henry's best friend, a goofy native stoner whose physical hijinks earn many of laughs, and a cameo by Dan Akroyd as Lucy's doctor rounds out the cast.

Adam Sandler Lost It...
Well, when you hear of an Adam Sandler movie, a natural reaction is that you think that the movie is a hilarious comedy, but in this case, that's not entirely true. Don't get me wrong, the movie is FUNNY, persay, but I don't think I would catagorize it as a true comedy.

If you're looking for an Adam Sandler type comedy, I'd rather recommend There's Something About Mary, which is a comedy with Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, than this movie.

But don't get me wrong, this is a good MOVIE, but not a good comedy. Rob Schnieder's role is just plain dumb, but Drew Barrymore is what truly makes the movie worthy of watching. She did an excellent job. You have to be a die-hard Adam Sandler fan for you to appreciate his performance in this movie. If you are watching this movie for Adam Sandler, then this is a pure waste of your time, but if you're watching this movie for Drew Barrymore, it's well worth it!

But theirs a problem. Lucy can't remember they met, or that they made a date for the next day.

A year before their meeting Lucy had an accident which deprived her of any new long term memories. This means that every day she has to start again. Her friends convince Henry to leave her alone, but he can't get her out of his mind.

Thus starts a series of interesting meetings where he tries to get to know her, and maker her fall in love with him all over again every single day.

However, Henry must not only win her over, but her family and friends as well.

From the commercials I wasn't as interested in this movie, however after seeing it I think it's a wonderful romance, with a hilarious overtone. The way he overcomes her disability is fantastic and the ending is a little surprising, but marvelous.

With generous amounts of good luck and good timing, 50 First Dates set an all-time box-office record for the opening weekend of a romantic comedy; whether it deserved such a bonanza is another issue altogether. It's a sweet-natured vehicle for sweet-natured stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and their track record with The Wedding Singer no doubt factors in its lowbrow appeal. But while the well-matched lovebirds wrestle with a gimmicky plot (she has no short-term memory, so he has to treat every encounter as their first), director Peter Segal (who directed Sandler in Anger Management) ignores the intriguing potential of their predicament (think Memento meets Groundhog Day) and peppers the proceedings with the kind of juvenile humor that Sandler fans have come to expect. The movie sneaks in a few heartfelt moments amidst its inviting Hawaiian locations, and that trained walrus is charmingly impressive, but you can't quite shake the feeling that too many good opportunities were squandered in favor of easy laughs. Gosh--kids. You gotta love 'em, right? Well, not necessarily-- particularly if you're Adam Sandler. But Big Daddy is about paternal devotion in its own oblique way. Sandler plays Sonny Koufax, a law-school grad who has been milking an accident settlement to cover his living expenses, while he continues to slack his way through life. But when his girlfriend threatens to dump him, he decides to show her he's serious about their relationship and pretends to adopt a little boy (in fact, his roommate's son from a one-night stand several years earlier, who shows up on their doorstep just after the roommate leaves town on a job). But after taking care of the tyke for a couple of days, Sonny finds that it's a little like feeding that stray dog that followed you home: Before you know it, you've grown attached to the little fella--and then what are you going to do? By turns crude and maudlin, Big Daddy has its share of laughs and will certainly entertain fans who like Adam Sandler best when he plays the case of arrested development with a smart-aleck retort for everything. --Marshall Fine ... Pretty funny, pretty good
I think that by this time in Adam Sandler's career, there are two kinds of fans: ones who either hate him, or love him. And to be blunt, his roles in most of his movies are not that great. For instance; playing the title character in "Happy Gilmore", he was a hockey/golf pro. In "The Waterboy" he played a retarted waterboy. And in "Little Nicky" he played the Devil's son. Now, all of these roles are not ones that we can relate to. But yet we still loved those films, and with good reason.

But in "Big Daddy", Sandler plays Sonny Koufax. What makes this role so much better is that there's a sense of love from within. When a young boy (Cole/Dylan Sprouse) is left outside his door, he takes him in and gives him a home. And for anyone who saw "Billy Madison" you see the irony here. Anyway, to make a long story short, it's the most well-rounded character he's every played. It's a movie that anyone can like, even if they don't like Adam Sandler. Grant it, he has the starring role, but he's with a great supporting cast. It includes Joey Lauren Adams, Jon Stewart and Rob Schneider, along with some Sandler-movie regulars. Joey is particularly good here. She provides more seriousness than most of his female co-stars from earlier films.

This movie is definetly a comedy--and it' a good one at that. But it has more than just stupid laughs. It's cute, it's sad, and it's something you shouldn't be able to hate. The movie may be around 3.5 stars, it's better than just three. The only reason it didn't get more is because of the ending. I didn't think much of the ending, but I guess it was fitting. Anyway, Adam Sandler does something in this movie that I hope continues for him; that being playing great roles. So watch this movie, whether you like Adam Sandler or not. It' a great film.

This movie really shows Adam Sandler's soft side.
This is a great movie, all around. It's got comedy like every Adam Sandler movie, but it's also got a real show of heart. I mean, what are you supposed to do when a kid shows up on your doorstep and you're told that he's your roommate's son, but your roommate is off on a business trip? Julian is an adorable little guy, and you can really see that he got attached to Sonny, only to be told that he had to go away by the social services. That tugs at the heartstrings, especially when Julian is being led out of Sonny's apartment by the social worker repeating "But I wipe my own ass!", thinking that it was his fault he had to go away. Adam Sandler's character really showed a soft side when he gave that speech in court when it was going to be decided whether Julian would stay with him or with the adoption services. Overall, it's a wonderful movie.

Law school grade likes tripping skate boarders
I first saw this movie on TV edited for a general audience. I guess the whole family and I were enjoying it so much we didn't notice all the Bleeps. When Sandler loses the kid, all three of my younger children were sobing. We laughed, we cried, we cheered when the good guys won the day. But...

Then I bought the movie. This is not a family friendly movie becuase the language is to salty. Sandler, who hardly ever got very much face time on Saturday night Live, except in the credits has turned out to be one of my favorites. I like almost everything he does. Big daddy is a 4 star, very good movie, but i have to give it 3 stars for the cursing.

Great!
Here it is. Another Sandler movie... First "Littly Nicky"; a movie I saw 3 times and bought on DVD because I liked it so much, yet critcics despised it. Why? I haven't a clue. I enjoyed it. Then, there's this Summer's "Mr. Deeds". Yeah, his most underrated one yet. It's not his best, but I wouldn't have bombed it like everyone else did. Now this. A great Christmas movie. An animated Adam Sandler movie. Of course I didn't expect critics to like this. So I ignored the 1-Star rating in the newspaper, saw it with a friend, and laughed...

Davey, a 30-something Jewish man, who hates the holidays, once again tries to turn this season into another catastrophe. But this time he goes too far. Oh God, I love this movie!
OK, I'll admit that this isn't the most appropriate movie for children, but then again, aren't most of Adam Sandler's movies like that? I think that's what makes them funny; the crude humor. That's the problem with the movies coming out for kids lately: they're very lowbrow and cheesy. This is an animated movie that reaches more toward the teenage audience with a liking for bathroom-type humor and Adam Sandler's genius. A very memorable part from the movie for me is when Whitey was cleaning an outhouse for a dollar and Davey pushes it down a hill. Whitey emerges from the outhouse covered in human sewage and Davey then appears with a hose and sprays Whitey until he's a frozen block of crap. I love that part. "Smell ya later, Poopsicle!"

I STRONGLY agree that this movie is VERY underrated. Me and my little brother absolutley LOVE it, we've been watching the DVD ever since I got it for Christmas! We LOVE watching Davey Stone (the splitting image of and voiced with zest by Adam Sandler) make an idiot out of himself and everyone else around him. We LOVE Whitey Duvall's funny, squeaky, parrakeet-like voice (it's to die for)! His "Seizer scenes" are worth the 30 bucks this DVD costs! And how can you NOT love The deer and of course, Whitey's weird, wig-obessesed sister, Eleanore! My favorite song is "Bum-Biddy." I've never really been an Adam Sandler fan, but this movie is very underrated and really kicks @$$!

terrible movie
I used to be a fan of The Simpsons, but now much more of a South Park kinda guy, so it's near impossible to offend me really.. The humor was good in some spots, but overall I fould it to be annoying and pointless. The emotion and general plot was pretty good, and I've always liked Sandler for his singing abilities and SNL work, but this movie was bad (some of the singing was okay, but personally I didn't like half of it). Most of the content is incredibly gross and could make you vomit if eating, but that's Sandler's great gold.

Man!That was the coolest movie I've ever seen and I want to buy it SOOOO much! But anyway Davey this "crazy 33 old Jewish guy" is like "the town bafoon". Adam plays Davey,Elonor who is Whitey's sister, who is hilarious and Whitey is the youth bastetball coach who is a really nice old man who does lots of good deeds including saving Davey from at least 10 yrs. in jail. An adventure in mediocrity
Better than Little Nicky, far from Happy Gilmore, and on about the same level as The Waterboy, Mr. Deeds is decent, but not all that great. Adam Sandler plays Longfellow Deeds, a good man with a somewhat short temper, but ultimately mild mannered. When it is determined that he is the son of a recently deceased billionaire, he inherits the entire estate. The premise sounds good, and apparently it did before as it is based on the movie, "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town." That however doesn't help this movie. What does push it forward is some good acting, inventive characters, and a decent plot. Sandler has the ability to get more cameos into a movie than I thought physically possible. Al Sharpton, John MacEnroe (forgive the spelling), Rob Schneider, Kathy Bates, and others all wind up in this film and do an excellent job in supporting Sandler. Detracting seriously from the film though is Winnona Ryder. Why on Earth she is still an actress boggles my mind. She plays her part horribly and just sounds so atrocious. Her, and the dips in comedic action pull this film down 2 stars. Overall though it could be worse, given everything it's not that bad. It's an enjoyable film that can be viewed a few times without the effect wearing off.

Good rebound for Sandler after the "Nicky" bomb
I'm not going to compare this movie (tho loosely based) to the 1936 classic with Gary Cooper, "Mr. Deeds Goes To Town". Sure, the basic storyline is the same, but that's it. Cooper & Sander are totally different actors in totally different times. Cooper was a classic actor with a flair for some comedy, where Sandler is a comedian with a flair for some acting. "Deeds" did fairly well at the box office in 2002. Sandler proved there was life after his previous bomb, "Little Nicky". A great cast with Winona Ryder, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro - stealing the show with his "sneaky" one liners and his incurable foot fetish. You'll recognize some supporting cast members from some of Sandler's previous flicks ("Wedding Singer, "Big Daddy", etc). Tho on the short side of today's movie standards (approx 90 minutes), this film is enjoyable on all levels. Sandler is more of the naive bumbling comedian here (remniscent of his role in "Wedding Singer"), rather than relying on gross humor geered toward the older adolescent male movie watchers. Included on this DVD are the standard feature length commentaries, outtakes & deleted scenes, and miscellanious featurettes. For those Sandler fans, I put this one behind the classics "The Wedding Singer" and "Happy Gilmore"... but well above "The Waterboy", "Big Daddy" and "Little Nicky".

What the.........!?
Here's something you don't see everyday: an expectation that a movie will be good based on who stars in it being completely shafted. Actually, I get that feeling quite a bit, but never like this. Adam has been in some great movies (Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, and, despite what everyone else seems to say about it, I loved Little Nicky). However, this movie is complete garbage, and those responsible for this Godforsaken piece of crap should be burned at the stake. I guess this was supposed to be based on an earlier version of this movie (Mr. Deeds goes to town or whatever), and I hope to God that movie is at least 100X better than this waste of space.

Let me get right to the point. This movie tanked from start to finish. Few movies have accomplished this, but this one does so as if doing so is a no-brainer. What I remember of the beginning is lame and boring, the freaks that Adam hangs around must have some sort of mental retardation (if you've seen the movie, you know I'm not talking about stupidity that is funny, but just plain retardation that sucks), and H-O-L-Y CRAP Winona Rider is in the movie; nuff said! The best part of the moive (and I say best only to emphasize how bad this movie is) is when Rider's character kicks the overweight pizza store manager in the crotch, and she says "What are you kickin there for? I ain't got no b*lls!" Geeeezzzzz.......I couldn't even try to laugh at this nonsense; what was Adam thinking? By the way, Adam is very mellow in this movie (except for a couple of scenes where he beats someone up, but it's not even near funny this time), just like in Waterboy, but without the lousy accent (thank God!). He writes poems for greeting cards for Christ's sake!!! How much more of a loser can you be? I guess he's trying to model himself after Jason Biggs (which is about as low as you can go). Just get me a gun so I can put this movie and myself out of our misery!

It's not what you got in the bank.....
Adam Sandler in another formula feel-good romantic comedy. As a simple guy in a New England Hicks-Town, Sandler is loved all the towns-folk for his cheerful disposition and his magical way of always wanting to help people out. When he is snatched away from his little piece of Paradise to accept a 40 billion dollar inheritance from a media tycoon in NYC, a snowball-effect of events starts to roll.

Vaguely similar to Steve Martin's "The Jerk", but sadly quite predictable and far fetched. Many side-gags for pop-culture buffs are included. The best one's are a take on "Mr. French" and references to the Sunday Funny Papers. The frequent "appearing/disappearing act" of the butler character at first is spooky, but works well with the surprise at the end. The final scene (I won't give it away) is a cute way of showing how much Deeds wants to help out the little people. Some of the "cut scenes" are hilarious, although some (like the pizza delivery) are a bit risque. Otherwise, this is safe bet for all ages. A very pleasant film.****

The original Mr. Deeds Goes to Town was given a three and a half out of four star rating on cable, but this version was only given one star.

Excellent, Keep Em' Comin!
I saw this movie for my birthday last year and it was everything I expected it to be. He was the one that has started it all and is still doin it. This is one of his "Happy Madison" movies (Adam Sandler's Movie Company). Happy Madison has made Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo, Joe Dirt, and The Animal. All of his movies has a certain kick to it, and Little Nicky does. When you really watch it, you can tell they really had a lot of fun making it. All of the scenes are really funny. I think the chemistry between Nicky(Sandler) and Valerie(Arquette) was quite terrible, she didn't fit the roll. Though all of the humour made up for it's lack.

As for the DVD itself, it was spectacular. First it has 21 deleted scenes and an alternate ending. Feature length commentary by Sandler director Steven Brill and Co-Writer Tim Herlihy. Also another commentary by the cast featuring Michael McKean, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon, Henry Winkler, Ozzy Osbourne, and many more. A special look behind the film "Adam Sandler Goes to Hell". "Satan's Top 40", a look at hard rock music with on camera interviews with Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, Ronnie James Dio, and others. POD's music video "School of Hard Knocks" which was the openeing song on the opening credits(kick...song). Cast & Crew Filmographies, and theatrical trailer.

If you have a computer the DVD-ROM features are quite all right as well. A Script-To-Screen which allows you to read the original script while watching the film. I was quite suprised at how much they changed the movie as they filmed it. Also the Orignal Website will be available to check out on the DVD.

There are also some DVD easter eggs on the DVD. One is a theatrical trailer for Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring. To check it out, all you gotta do is go to the special features menu, and just keep scrolling until a halo appears above Nicky's head.

Over all I think this is a must buy for any Adam Sandler fan. I was happy to see many bonus features that should have been on his previous films DVD's. Though you should buy his original classics first. One of the best!

Hell has never been so much fun....
I will admit that when I first saw the previews for this movie I was somewhat offended by it, because I am a Catholic and I thought that the movie poking fun at christianity and making hell seem like an ok place would offend me, but after watching it, I actually seemed to enjoy it. It pokes fun at both heaven and hell but not in a way that is too insulting. Adam Sandler is hilarious as Little Nicky the son of Satan, although I thought that his performance was funny, his speech impediment got a little bit on my nerves after awhile. Harvey Keitel's performance as Satan was devilishly funny and witty, he did an amazing job. It was great to see Sandler being reunited with a lot of his costars from previous movies including Allen Covert as his flamboyantly gay roomate and aspiring actor and Clint Howard as the nipple rubbing man which just cracked me up. While the humor gets a little bit out hand at times such as Jon Lovitz being humped by a big black bird and one of the devils getting boobs on his head, it still proves to be funny. Look out for other great cameos by Rodney Dangerfield as Lucifer, Patricia Arquette as Little Nicky's girlfriend Valerie and Dana Carvey as a basketball referee.

I really didn't know they made movies that were this awful
I thought Sandler's "Mr. Deeds" and "Happy Gilmore" were awfully stupid movies, but then I had the misfortune to sit through "Little Nicky." I realize now that "Mr. Deeds" & "Happy Gilmore," by comparison, were absolute artistic masterpieces.

My God, how does a movie as uniformly awful manage to get past even the executives that approve a script for production? It just boggles the mind how bad this was, on every level. How respectable actors such as Harvey Keitel could associate themselves with this cinematic vomit is also mind-boggling.

This was a truly painful movie to sit through, and is angling for a spot on my hallowed list of 10 All-Time Worst Movies (alongside Mannequin & Baby Geniuses). I still feel the nausea induced by this garbage.

The best Sandler Movie.
This movie Rules! I can't say enough good things about it! It puts Rodney Dangerfield, Ozzy Osbourne,Quentin Tarrentino and Henry Winkler in the same movie. Sandler makes a very convincing metalhead. Hilarious from start to finish. Great soundtrack, really helps out the movie. All of the usual faces from Sandler films are here. The special features are great too. Satan's top forty is a good intro for non fans of metal, but provides us metalheads with nothing new. But when his girlfriend threatens to dump him, he decides to show her he's serious about their relationship and pretends to adopt a little boy (in fact, his roommate's son from a one-night stand several years earlier, who shows up on their doorstep just after the roommate leaves town on a job). I wish it had lasted 8 nights!
Adam Sandler (the best comedian ever) is back again for the third time this year in Eight Crazy Nights. Davey Stone is a troublemaker in the town of Dukesberry. He is the master of mischief in the town. He hates the holidays. One day he messes up the whole town and is taken to court. There, he is given the choice of doing ten years in the slammer, or he can referee for youth basketball with the short man, Whitey. He chooses to go with the basketball. After a while, Davey starts a good relationship with Whitey. Will Whitey turn Davey into a good person? See the movie and find out for yourself. Adam's Biggest Fan (at least in MO) I'm off to see it again.

Not ready to review
Haven't seen it yet, but my son worked on this movie and he did nothing but rave about it and Adam Sandler so it should be worth seeing. He said it is absolutely funny.

The young actor, Adam Sandler is by far one of the funniest comedians to date. His humor is laugh-out-loud and very slapstick at times. I've seen all his films so far(except for "Mr. Deeds"), which includes, "Happy Gilmore", "Billy Madison", "Bulletproof", and "Big Daddy".

Best deal ever!!
