Amazon.com But is it funny? That's the most important question, and the answer to that is yes. In the vein of Airplane!, with a dash of the Farrelly brothers, Scary Movie keeps throwing jokes at you one after another. The law of averages says some of them have to hit, and enough of them do to keep the movie entertaining. Unlike the makers of Airplane!, however, the Wayans brothers aren't making this movie out of a love of the genre, and unlike the Farrelly brothers, they don't make fun of retarded people with any sort of respect, so the humor throughout feels a lot uglier. Still, there are enough funny scenes in Scary Movie to make the viewing experience worthwhile. Special credit must go to Lochlyn Munro as Greg, the over-the-top jock, who steals the movie up until the time he's gotta die.--Andy Spletzer Reviews (435)
If you're a fan of crude humor and film satire, "Scary Movie" is an impressive DVD to own. The hit comedy is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen format. The DVD contains a sharp video transfer and a great 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. The opening title menu is quite nice. Its special features include six hilarious deleted scenes, trailers, a behind-the-scenes featurette and numerous DVD-ROM extras like "Scary Movie: Guide for the Culturally Challenged". Overall, "Scary Movie" earns a worthy "B".

The script, co-penned by Phillips and writing partner Scot Armstrong ("Road Trip" and "Old School") installs a mustached Jewish businessman, Reese Feldman, as the drug villain, played by Vince Vaughn straightaway, without humor. He shoots a guy in the movie's opening scene, blows up Hutch's shack in another. Feldman's discovery: a hybrid cocaine undetectable by German Shepherds and crime labs - watch for an inside joke about "new" and "old" coke - which plays a role in an extended sequence where Starsky mistakes it for sugar. Phillips and Armstrong poke a bit of fun at the 70s - the original TV show emerges mostly unscathed - by parodying disco, cheerleaders in the Farrah Fawcett hair, the pimp culture, punctuated by Snoop Dogg - but they generally rely on Stiller and Wilson to goof off one another. It's debatable whether their chemistry has ever been that good - "The Royal Tanenbaums" wisely kept them apart - but here they struggle in dead air. For Stiller it could be fatigue - seven films in calendar year plus a regular spot on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" - and for Wilson, it could be the epiphany that there are more roles out there than the shaggy, shambling fool. "Starsky & Hutch" seems strangely lobotomized. A scene, for example, that features Starsky and Hutch interrogating a topless cheerleader (Molly Sims) might have earned an R rating shot from the front, but at least we would have been spared a viewing of the skeletal Sims' alien spine. Robbed of their ability to rip off "Porky's" by Hollywood bean counters looking for a franchise, Phillips and Armstrong fall back on the PG-13 comedy standbys - casual drug use, slightly loose women, homophobia, and two household names and a handful of cameos ( Snoop Dogg, Jason Bateman, Chris Penn). It's not unlike one of those failed Saturday Night Live comedies: too tame in one scene, too lame in another, stale most of the time.

Overall this is merely a fun, funny send up of much of the current "teen scene" that can have even oldies like me giggling the whole way through. I value a movie on its "re-watchability" and this one is limitless in that!
the acting was awful and so was the storyline. if you must see it, rent it.

The film is narrated by an alien observer and seems to take a few shots at anthropologists. So many times you see documentaries on the DISCOVERY channel where experts say that such-and-such people lived in "exactly" such-and-such a way. Perhaps I am wrong, but it would appear the writer of this story saw one-too-many cultural documentaries and decided to have a little fun. Carmen Electra is good to her name as she electrifies the screen. Although this is the only movie I've ever seen her in, I must admit that she does seem to possess some decent acting talent - which is more than I can say for a great many "typecast" actresses. If you're in the mood for a zany Romantic comedy, this one just might be worth a try. It covers our mating habits from beginning to end, and it includes all of the wonderful nonsense in between!

1) It has a few hilariously bawdy moments. Worst: 1) The boy-girl friendship thing, where they awkwardly date other people before finally considering each other, is SO tired. The audience knows where the movie is going 5 minutes into the action. Recomendation: Get this one cheap (used) or rent it instead of paying full retail. It's funny, sexy and outrageous - but not enough of either to make this one memorable as a great comedy. ... Read more

'The Chosen-Legend of the Raven' is the story of a young woman [Carmen Electra] who is chosen by birthright and circumstance to take up her family mantle (represented by a necklace with mystical powers) to become the Raven fight against an Evil that threatens to swallow the world. The film depicts her transformation and her first battle against said evil, manifested in the Wolf [Shauna Sand]. Nice concept, exceedingly bad execution. The script is very nearly devoid of focus, the acting is almost universally bad (Shauna Sand shows some glimmers of talent, or maybe just carries herself with natural intensity... but this is offset by Carmen Electra's thoroughly wooden and amateurish performance), and the fight scenes are as lame as any ever committed to film. There's not even anything remarkable about the camera work or costuming, and there's no humour to speak of. To top it off, the Raven's enemies seem more pathetic than truly threatening. The only thing I can think of to recommend this film is that it *did* manage to hold my attention. Unlike many other poorly made films the creators here at least had a sense of pacing. My advice? Pass on this one unless you're the world's biggest Carmen Electra or Shauna Sand fan. If you're looking for a film with woman superheroes, get 'The Heroic Trio' or its sequel 'The Exceutioners.' (The latter is more in line with the tone of 'Legend of the Raven, but is a vastly superior flick.) ... Read more

The story of "My Boss's Daughter," is a simple on at most. No biggie. Tom works as a reasearcher in a publishers houserun by Jack who is known for firing people for making a bad cup of coffee. That is exactly what Tom's fellow co-worker Audrey does. Tom is very nervous about asking his boss for a promotion in the creative department, and he is also nervous about asking out his beautiful daughter and co-worker Lisa.(Played by Tara Reid who I never really liked.) Tom thinks that Lisa is asking him out when it seems that she is asking him to a party, but she really just wants him to housesit in place of her, so that she could go to a party. Jack is waiting for him at the house and tells him the rules. He also tells him how to feed his precious bird O.J. Tom says "No problem," but thinks go wrong when everybody leaves. Audrey comes by to talk to Jack and then Lisa's brother Red comes to ask Tom to give a package to T.J. The package is drugs. But then tons of other people arrive at the house including Speed and Tina. Tom is scared because when Jack left the house he said that if anything was wrong he would fire Tom and kill him. As he tries to get everybody out of the house, he runs into Lisa's boyfriend Hans, a women who thinks that Tom is her date, and is offended because she has a large headwound, and O.J. who escapes from his cage. "My Boss's Daughter," is a very funny movie that was just misunderstood. "My Boss's Daughter," got such bad box office buzz that it wasn't even previewed in advance by critics. I still stand by the theory that the reason movies that were shot down by critics do bad, were because people were told that they were bad. I think that that is the case with "My Boss's Daughter." I thought that this was a very funny piece of comedy. It was also dark, I feel. I love dark comedy. Some of my favorite dark movies are "Death to Smoochy," and "The Royal Tenenbaums." But "My Boss's Daughter," is a different work of dark comedy. It is a dark comedy disguised as a comedy. It wasn't billed as one, but I think it should be. It had comedy about death, drugs, and murderers. But I thought it was a great film and the DVD is out soon. ENJOY! Rated PG-13 for crude and sex-related humor, drug content and language.
There was no laughter coming from me for the entire 101 minutes I watched this movie...For a movie that is supposed to be "absolutely hilarious"...I would say that that is pretty bad. The back of the DVD says that "you will laugh your ass off"...the only thing my ass was doing was developing a cramp from sitting on it for sooooo long... Please do not waste your money or time with this one...use it for something with some cinematic quality...such as MYSTIC RIVER!
