The things that give this movie an authentic and intriging story were elements only shown in the deleted scenes. First, the long scene at the opening of the movie of a dimwitted Jobe befriending an escaped lab monkey gives much more explenation of his experiments later (as well as offering originality). Other important scenes removed leave the story dry and unexplained. One scene I found particularily effective in showing Jobe's metamorphis from a slow, butt-of-all-jokes moron to a super-genius crazed from knowledge was one where we see him totally absorbed in computers. He than demonstrates that he has gained enough knowledge to have the ability to cause blisters on his hands. With the extended version, you see a truly uncomfartable change in Jobe throughout the movie which shows much more motivation and explanation to his later acts - greatly endorsing the saying that ignorance is bliss, rather than a poorly developed plot of the DVD version which comes across as mearly another guy-gone-crazy-and-starts-killing-people movie depending on special effects for an audience. If you haven't scene this movie yet, rent the VHS extended version rather then the DVD, as it shows the real, good movie. Even though the DVD has the deleted scenes available, not being able to incorporate them to the actual film takes away from it greatly and leaves the movie drab and unspecial. My only hope is that they will eventually release a Special Edition DVD and restore the director's cut version, restoring all it's glory and ridding of the sh_tty snap case.
This movie does have vague resemblances to Scott's - BladeRunner , but only philosophically . It is however understandable why critics and audiences in 1992 were repelled by the burning of a priest (!) and fascinated by sex/violence in the cyberspace ... they reacted blindly : "This is a satanic movie !" I recommend everyone to see it (again) for now 12 years later this brilliant movie still shines as an epic drama of man , freedom and God . In the beginning The Lawnmower Man has a parallel to Charly (Daniel Keyes great Novel : Flowers for Algernon) , but mainly Jobe EVOLVES due to a growing thirst for knowledge and possibilities - while Charly IMPROVES himself to be more accepted and feeling equal to others . While Charly ends tragically sweet , the Lawnmower Man explores in a completely different direction . What about Frankenstein ? No , it does not go in this direction either or end like this other great story ; Brett Leonard dares to push his vision much higher : Jobe sees the totality of the world like God , but has become sad in soul through the interference of the government , religion & society and strikes back to change everything through the available electronic international net ... Though the script has really very little to do with King's character nor his shortstory in the shortstory-collection Nightshift , one can hardly blame Leonard without remembering how another instructor expanded and explored Arthur Clarkes shortstory (called "The sentinel" on even fewer pages than TLM) and making the amazing movie 2001: A Space Odyssey . I agree that there are typical movie-clones of Frankenstein and Charly , one is even with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams called "Awakenings"(1990) and though I love the two guys this is a 90% Charly-story ! But , then again , nobody dared saying so to Penny Marshall after making "Big" cowritten by Spielbergs sister - personally I think Daniel Keyes still could make a lawsuit ! And no critics would minimize Charlie Chaplins Dictator for being a cute rewriting of Duck Soup from the geniuses of the Marx Brothers ! I think this movie deserves respect and You will all find that the reason why You were amazed at the once incredible special effects , were because they fitted so well to the story and characters - a secret that merely few instructors like Spielberg and Hitchcock master . Therefore judge this movie by the many-layered story of existence . I must say thanks to Brett Leonard & Gimel Everett
The commentary track has Leonard and co-producer and fellow screenwriter Gimel Everett, talk endlessly about how lucky they were to make this film (I'll say). The deleted scenes offer a better sense of the story. Too bad they were not incorporated into the movie. It might have made a difference. The storyboards, and other making of stuff don't seem like fun, if the movie isn't any good...Buyer Beware ... Read more

DARKMAN still remains the most frightening hero who ever graced the world. The "cult" will rise from the ashes just like Peyton Westlake did. The time has come.
Arnold Vosloo, who took the helm of Darkman in the second film(I skipped that one), is no Liam Neeson, but is absolutely enjoyable as Darkman. I'm happy to know that the filmmakers did a good job by keeping the character the same. His emotions, frustration, and alienation are well done here. Jeff Fahey is gives an over-the-top performance as the bad guy Peter Rooker, whose evil plan is to gain powerful strength just like Darkman's. Fahey is sort of believable as a bad guy, but he overacts himself, even with a sadistic character like Rooker! But Vosloo is the savior here, who potrays a more humane Darkman in this entry. He does a good job at playing different emotions with the character. I'm not that surprised that the film was a direct-to-video, but was a good film nonetheless. I love the Darkman character, and I'm dissapointed there isn't very much of a fan following. I just wish another Darkman film was made, or a TV series, which is a even better idea, because the Darkman films are fantastic.

Already in our world there is hatred for Christian moral beliefs. It is only natural that those who hate God will try to convince Christians that they are either insane or are not intellegent enough for society. Parts of the movie imply retraining and some of the members of a church are imprisoned and killed. There is quite a bit of violence, but nothing in comparrison to most movies. I would not recommend this for children. The main story is of a father searching for his daughter and wife who have dissapeared in the rapture. Through his contact with the underground Christians, he learns about God and why these people are willing to die for God. The Christians in the movie are set up and are said to be terrorists. There are many movies in the series I hope to be watching them all eventually. If you enjoy this movie, you might also enjoy reading Mind Seige or reading the Tim LaHaye novels.

Is a good thing, some of the dark humour is funny, at times-it really works in certain scenes. it has some good lines from Perkins and also he re-create some of the moment from Psycho. Quality from Goodtimes DVD is good, it has good non-anamorphic Widescreen(1.85:1) transer and Dolby Surround is Impressive. Grade:B+.
Anthony Perkins' directorial debut is an excellent example of how not all sequels, even number threes, have to stink. In fact, except for the Bates Motel series pilot "movie" that didn't have Perkins in it at all, I'd have to say all the Psycho films are pretty darn good. None of the sequels make any attempt to be Hitchcockian, yet they all keep the stories and characters intact and a step above the usual slasher fair. The duality of the Norman Bates character that Hitchcock presented so well in the original is clearly what gives the sequels so much to work with. This man's entire life is interesting and worth chronicling, not just that first major incident in the 60s. Of course, as with the other sequels, this film is in color, and quite gory and sexual, unlike the original classic film. But this just helps to provide a nice separation for those who dislike sequels and feel the Hitchcock Masterpiece should have been left alone. For the rest of us, this film is an excellent addition to Norman Bates' legacy, with plenty of moments that keep you guessing about what will happen next.
I hated the way Tony added sexuality to the Psycho franchise. In Psycho 3, you will see more breasts and sex scenes than you cared too. And the language was almost x-rated for me (vibrators & "getting off" are mentioned in the film). Even Norman starts to get anxious for Maureen after they both get drunk. There was too much violence also. Too much blood, and stabbings, and throat cuttings. The beauty of the original PSYCHO (1960), was that everything was subtle. No nudity, language, or even violence. The shower scene never showed Janet Leigh getting stabbed. This film was also too dark. Norman, mother, murder, mental illness was pushed too far, and you can only take so much from a movie. The only good thing was the music, by Carter Burwell. The music was just as good as the original. ... Read more

The place - a Pennsylvania steel town in the grips of a recession. Against this less-than-pleasant backdrop is set a story of jealousy and violence. Who did what to who? Why did who do what to who? Who is telling the truth about what who did what to who and why who did what to who? Although this movie should have been good, it comes across as mediocre. The acting is so-so, some sections of the movie seem to wander, it leaves you with the feeling that it should have been better. Ah well, that's show business!!! ... Read more

1991. Paramount. 88 MINS. Rated R (Violence and Language).
Written and directed by Eric Red, and based upon the novel Choice Cuts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, Body Parts is an exhilarating and tightly-paced film that gets under your skin and lingers long after you've seen it. This well-written work-of-art does more than provide great direction, stunning visuals, grotesque and harrowing scenes that are beyond suitable for the lily-livered, and startling action sequences; in addition, it provides superb performances from the entire cast. What can I say? Once the cast is in character and the cameras are rolling, brace yourself for some realistic work. Here you have the underrated Brad Dourif, who perfectly-to no surprise-depicts the eccentric, chilling and edgy roll of Remo Lacey, a mad artist whose isolation from the rest of the world allows him to pursue with his work, which is influenced by the same disturbing nightmares Jeff Fahey's character undergoes, who'll really just keep you breathless as the affects of his transplant gradually began to show and he, to his horror, altered into this completely new, fanatical man without a wife to wake up with or children to kiss goodnight. Many horror films lack in great performances, as you would surely know by now, but this film possibly has the finest I've ever seen!

I think it is worth noting that below the comment was made that there was "no lap dancing in the old west". THE WHOLE JOKE OF THE SCENE IN THE FILM IS THE GIRL INVENTS LAP DANCING (a defining moment of one of the characters).... And the poker chips were WOOD, not plastic. Again when I read a review from people that were obviously not even watching the film, it makes it a little tough to take seriously... But, back to the matter at hand. I bought this not expecting Unforgiven or Tombstone because there is generally a huge difference between 30 million dollar films and probably a 1 million dollar film. Ghost Rock is far from perfect but at least it has a story and gives us characters with an arc, unlike the majority of straight to video films. Remember, if you are buying a film that is just mindless action, forget about it. This is really a drama with several action scenes (the last 15 minutes being one big one). The scenery is nice (and yes that includes Michael Worth, Jenya Lano, Christa Sauls, Jeff Fahey and the shirtless Indian guy), the action scenes are well choreographed and the acting is better than normal for these independents. Actor Worth (also the writer) is not afraid to be vunerable, which is unusual in these films as the good guy is generally comic book-like in being the hero. Plus, instead of writing himself in every scene, he turns over much of the heroics to a female character which from a feminists point of view shows a secure fella : ) But, Worth is more of an actor and not an "action star-type" so that twist on the character is not surprising. The female lead (Lano) is sort of a reverse Eastwood (but not the scene mugging Sharon Stone in The Quick And The Dead) and she and Worth have great chemistry though they spend too little time on screen together. Busey is...well, Busey. You love him or hate him, either way, he's himself. You can tell Worth and director Dustin Rikert were not taking everything so seriously as Busey makes references to his Buddy Holly days in one scene. The film has it's holes and it's shortcomings no doubt, but reading their web site, it seems obvious this was due to producer cutting and not the writing or filmmaking as most holes (How a Cowboy knows martial arts, where the Japanese prostitue came from, etc) was all in the original story. But, without knowing that, I can see where they have left some problems with their film. But there is some really nice music and the cinematography is far from being as bad as some have described it elsewhere. I just wish the DVD had some more features as aside from the trailer it is pretty barebones and some deleted scenes, making of, etc. would have made this a much higher recommendation. So, if you are looking to rag on a low budget western, might as well rent it so you can go for it. If you are loking for production value of Open Range or Tombstone, look elsewhere (but remember some great low budget westerns like The Hired Hand...?). If you are a fan of Busey, Worth, Lano or Fahey, all four of them show here they can act (and write....) and though I have seen little of Lano and Worth before, I hope to again. Ghost Rock will not appeal to everyone obviously (ie: below) but if more of the straight to video type films were like this, we would all be buying a lot more films. Three stars for genre bending, Worth's ass, Lano's ass, a heroic love story and yes...lap dancing!
