Kevin Costner plays the most famous lawman ever to stride the Wild West.In a gritty, complex portrayal hailed as a "classic American performance" (Bob Campbell, Newhouse Newspapers), Academy Award winner Costner (Dances with Wolves, The Bodyguard) plays the man who became a myth in acclaimed director Lawrence Kasdan's (The Big Chill, Silverado) epic, action-filled saga.Gene Hackman, an Oscar winner for Unforgiven, as Wyatt's iron-willed father, and Dennis Quaid (The Big Easy, The Right Stuff) as Earp's deadly best friend Doc Holliday add power to this mammoth, hard-hitting Western. From Wichita to Dodge City to the O.K. 4-0 out of 5 stars Wyatt Earp was a Man
A lot of people forget that Wyatt Earp was a real man who had more courage and integrity then most people you will ever know. This movie is a pretty accurate portrayl of that man. Kevin Costner and Dennis Quaid (Doc Holliday) do a superb job, although the supporting cast has a lot to be desired. This movie differs from the movie "Tombstone", in that it portrays a lot of Wyatt's life from being a teenager during the Civil War to his and Josie's adventure to the Alaskan gold fields near the turn of the century. "Tombstone" deals primarily with the happenings in Wyatt's life in that one town, which ironically dealt with less than 2 years of his long adventurous life. I liked this film because it dealt with an approximate 35 year time span of Wyatt's life, and the movie is long enough to dipict this. There are a lot of historical accuracies in the movie which include proper representations of places and dialogue such as what is said on the way to and during the gunfight. The inaccuracies are easily overlooked such as Virgil being shot in the wrong arm and the reference to "Johnny behind the duece" as "Tommy." All in all though, a good film about the life of a great man, Wyatt Earp.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS DVD!
At last Warner Bros. has seen fit to release Kasdan's masterpiece on DVD. Sadly and inexplicably this movie was overlooked at the time of it's release. This superbly written, beautifully played piece is the definitive account of the life of a western archetype achieving everything that previous Earp accounts have failed to with the possible exception of Hour Of The Gun. Avoiding the ludicrous romanticism of My Darling Clementine, or the appaulingly laughable Lancaster/Douglas fiasco, Gunfight At OK Corral, Kasdan's portrayal presents these characters as the contradictory individuals they undoubtedly were and the actors and actresses do a tremendous job of bringing them to life. Costner is utterly believable as a complex man who, influenced by his father's belief in the family unit, almost destroys the very family he is trying to protect. We see him go from an idealistic young man to becoming a resolute, serious individual as a result of circumstances often beyond his control which serve to form his hardened personality and tunnel vision. Dennis Quaid is superb as Doc Holliday and presents a real person rather than Val Kilmer's amusing charicature in the over rated t.v movie-quality Tombstone. JoBeth Williams, Catherine O'Hara and Isabella Rosselini are great in their portrayals of the role of women in the west. Each of the actresses in this movie portrays a distinctly different character never resorting to cookie-cutter characterisations but the one thing they all have in common is, true to the period, women were expected to be supportive but not to have minds of their own; No revisionist western this.
Technically the movie looks and sounds great. Kasdan creates a visual style without being heavy handed and we are presented with a west in various stages of development from shanty towns to the developing, lawless Dodge City and Tombstone where law and order are trying to take hold even when the "law" is being enforced in a very subjective manner, again there is a lot of gray in this movie.
Finally I have to praise James Newton Howard for his wonderful score which, if it were isolated on the DVD would make this a 6 star release.
Apparently deleted scenes are being included on a second disc. An expanded lazer disc was released some years ago which restored this footage to the film, adding even more depth to the characters and as a result an even better movie.
Please buy this movie and, in doing so, encourage Warner's to release the expanded version in the near future. You will not be disappointed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Western Classic
No doubt this movie is a western classic. I saw it years ago and loved it. I don't have anything negative to say about the movie itself. I almost picked up this 2 disc set until I learned it's a cut down or edited version. Why is the complete 212 min version only available on VHS ? That's just stupid. This is a great movie worthy of a director's cut edition maybe 3 disc set? I'd spend the extra cash on a deeper edition, until then I'll save my money. Please, please release the FULL version on DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm very disappointed-why not the Director's Cut on DVD??
I was actually planning to but Wyatt Earp on DVD, but as I already have the Director's Cut on VHS video, I'll wait until the release of it on DVD. I believed this would be the "definitive" video release of Wyatt Earp. I'm quite disappointed!! I would rather have had the complete film on DVD than all of the extras!! Five-stars for the film, one-star for the short-sightedness of this DVD's content!! This is just as puzzling as why the restored version of John Wayne's The Alamo is not on DVD yet, either.

3-0 out of 5 stars Typical Costner - long drawn out epic!
While the story was great and gave some interesting, perhaps unknown insight to the character of Wyatt Earp (did you know he was married and lost his wife to Typhoid? I didn't!) the movie was a very long, slow, drawn out epic like most of Costner's films. While Dennis Quaid portrayed a believable Doc Holliday, his performance was paled by the superior, more entertaining version by Val Kilmer in "Tombstone". In either movie it was almost unbelievable that the character was played by Dennis Quaid and Val Kilmer respectively (although Val Kilmer was more recognizable), I think both versions of Doc Holliday outshined the portrayal of Wyatt Earp in either movie. While still a good Western for this century, I would not rate this one higher than 3 stars because it was too long and drawn out. 3+ hours is just too long to sit through for something that could have been accomplished successfully in maybe 1-1/2 to 2 hours.
The rating age only goes up to 12, I'm actually 40 years old - LOL ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Movie is great... but leaving out the deleted scenes hurt it
I must admit that I was rather let down with this DVD, not due to the movie itself, but what they did with it. The first time I saw this movie was the VHS extended version. I would give this movie itself 5 stars, but the DVD significantly less. And this is due to the fact that all the deleted scenes that were incorporated into the original extended VHS release were removed and only viewable seperate from the movie.

The things that give this movie an authentic and intriging story were elements only shown in the deleted scenes. First, the long scene at the opening of the movie of a dimwitted Jobe befriending an escaped lab monkey gives much more explenation of his experiments later (as well as offering originality). Other important scenes removed leave the story dry and unexplained. One scene I found particularily effective in showing Jobe's metamorphis from a slow, butt-of-all-jokes moron to a super-genius crazed from knowledge was one where we see him totally absorbed in computers. He than demonstrates that he has gained enough knowledge to have the ability to cause blisters on his hands.

With the extended version, you see a truly uncomfartable change in Jobe throughout the movie which shows much more motivation and explanation to his later acts - greatly endorsing the saying that ignorance is bliss, rather than a poorly developed plot of the DVD version which comes across as mearly another guy-gone-crazy-and-starts-killing-people movie depending on special effects for an audience.

If you haven't scene this movie yet, rent the VHS extended version rather then the DVD, as it shows the real, good movie. Even though the DVD has the deleted scenes available, not being able to incorporate them to the actual film takes away from it greatly and leaves the movie drab and unspecial.

My only hope is that they will eventually release a Special Edition DVD and restore the director's cut version, restoring all it's glory and ridding of the sh_tty snap case.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mindless Entertainment
Certainly not Pierce Brosnan's best work. If you need some background while you do something else, it's okay. Don't be upset that I don't own this SciFi movie. I saw it when it was originally released at the theater. At that time I thought the graphics were great, but it just didn't grab my attention and hold it. I didn't mind going to the lobby for a soda, popcorn, hot dog, nachos, restroom, check out movie posters, make a phone call,... The problem is the story got to wrapped up in the lawnmower mans psyche. That would be okay if it was thought provoking, but it is mostly graphical halucinations and sexual innuendo. Not that illuminating into the characters motivations. One thing stands out in this movie. Some great early CGI. If you feel the need to see one of them catch this one, the second is much worse.

5-0 out of 5 stars The question of Man , freedom and God as a cybergame ...
Even if the 12 scenes cannot be played as an extended version there's food for Your brains , hearts and gender here !

This movie does have vague resemblances to Scott's - BladeRunner , but only philosophically .
And the attempts to compare this film with Nelson's - Charly(1968) or Whale's - Frankenstein(1931) is ridiculously superficial , like comparing Coppola's - Godfather(1972) to Polonsky's - Force of Evil(1948) or Lang's - You only live once(1937) !

It is however understandable why critics and audiences in 1992 were repelled by the burning of a priest (!) and fascinated by sex/violence in the cyberspace ... they reacted blindly : "This is a satanic movie !"
An indication of this , is that Stephen Kings wished/had his credit removed by a following lawsuit ...

I recommend everyone to see it (again) for now 12 years later this brilliant movie still shines as an epic drama of man , freedom and God .
Just remember BladeRunner , which 22 Years ago also grew discarded , cult-reserved and now is number 10 in IMDb Votes Charts Top 50 Sci-Fi movies and number 89 in Top 250 movies !

In the beginning The Lawnmower Man has a parallel to Charly (Daniel Keyes great Novel : Flowers for Algernon) , but mainly Jobe EVOLVES due to a growing thirst for knowledge and possibilities - while Charly IMPROVES himself to be more accepted and feeling equal to others .

While Charly ends tragically sweet , the Lawnmower Man explores in a completely different direction . What about Frankenstein ? No , it does not go in this direction either or end like this other great story ; Brett Leonard dares to push his vision much higher :

Jobe sees the totality of the world like God , but has become sad in soul through the interference of the government , religion & society and strikes back to change everything through the available electronic international net ...
That alone should be an eyeopener in these days of spam and morality !

Though the script has really very little to do with King's character nor his shortstory in the shortstory-collection Nightshift , one can hardly blame Leonard without remembering how another instructor expanded and explored Arthur Clarkes shortstory (called "The sentinel" on even fewer pages than TLM) and making the amazing movie 2001: A Space Odyssey .
At that time it was criticised as being too long , etc. !

I agree that there are typical movie-clones of Frankenstein and Charly , one is even with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams called "Awakenings"(1990) and though I love the two guys this is a 90% Charly-story ! But , then again , nobody dared saying so to Penny Marshall after making "Big" cowritten by Spielbergs sister - personally I think Daniel Keyes still could make a lawsuit !

And no critics would minimize Charlie Chaplins Dictator for being a cute rewriting of Duck Soup from the geniuses of the Marx Brothers !

I think this movie deserves respect and You will all find that the reason why You were amazed at the once incredible special effects , were because they fitted so well to the story and characters - a secret that merely few instructors like Spielberg and Hitchcock master .

Therefore judge this movie by the many-layered story of existence .

I must say thanks to Brett Leonard & Gimel Everett
for making this neo-myth out of a Stephen King-title

5-0 out of 5 stars A fabulously under-rated movie
As a cognitive scientist from Yale, I can say with certainty that the ideas expressed in this film are very real, and very ahead of their time. The virtual reality visuals in this movie are timeless. The acting is good, the sets are impressive, and the ideas are priceless. Enjoy the film, but don't dare watch its sequel (it is awful).

2-0 out of 5 stars Virtual Mess
THE LAWNMOWER MAN is an example of a movie that thinks it's better than it actually is. Dr. Lawrence Angelo (Pierce Brosnan), is working on a revolutionary type of virtual reality software, that he thinks will better mankind. After he fails to find success, working with animals, he finds his first human test subject. Jobe Smith (Jeff Fahey), a mentally disabled groundskeeper, who sees the tests as a game. However, the good doctor has enemies, who wish to use the technology and Jobe, to create an indestructable war machine. The film starts off with a pretty good premise, but after awhile, it seems as though the F/X are their to make us forget the plot. The director tries to make the film seem on the cutting edge, or visionary sci-fi, in doing so Brett Leonard fails to make things interesting. Brosnan seems like he is cursing his agent the whole for getting him this gig. Fahey seems to act in much the same fashion.

The commentary track has Leonard and co-producer and fellow screenwriter Gimel Everett, talk endlessly about how lucky they were to make this film (I'll say). The deleted scenes offer a better sense of the story. Too bad they were not incorporated into the movie. It might have made a difference. The storyboards, and other making of stuff don't seem like fun, if the movie isn't any good...Buyer Beware ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars DARKMAN CAN'T DIE
Big return for the most frightening character ever been. While the first straight-to-video sequel was a little bit weak and pointless (but still enjoyable) this one could have been a great theatrical follow-up to SAM RAIMI's cosmic masterpiece if done with the proper production values (big budget) and more sequences.
Of course, this one is the best "video sequel" and the real one by all means. You know, they filmed "DIE, DARKMAN, DIE!" long time before "THE RETURN OF DURANT", but when Larry Drake agreed to reprise his role as Robert G. Durant, the production company skipped DIE and went to film RETURN.
As far as concerning DIE, I liked the story a lot. Rooker is da man! Great villain. Arnold Vosloo was really getting in touch with Darkman, you can see it from his performance direction.
FInally, there's a fandom for Darkman at westlakedarkman.proboards3.com - Just enjoy.
I'm waiting for a DVD release of "DARKMAN III: DIE, DARKMAN, DIE!". Mmm... featuring deleted scenes and documentaries? Hell yes!

DARKMAN still remains the most frightening hero who ever graced the world. The "cult" will rise from the ashes just like Peyton Westlake did. The time has come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not better then the original, but still good
I'm a big fan of the Darkman character. The original was outstanding, with the great Liam Neeson as Darkman. DARKMAN 3 is shouldn't be compared to it, but it still has alot of action and a pretty good storyline.

Arnold Vosloo, who took the helm of Darkman in the second film(I skipped that one), is no Liam Neeson, but is absolutely enjoyable as Darkman. I'm happy to know that the filmmakers did a good job by keeping the character the same. His emotions, frustration, and alienation are well done here.

Jeff Fahey is gives an over-the-top performance as the bad guy Peter Rooker, whose evil plan is to gain powerful strength just like Darkman's. Fahey is sort of believable as a bad guy, but he overacts himself, even with a sadistic character like Rooker! But Vosloo is the savior here, who potrays a more humane Darkman in this entry. He does a good job at playing different emotions with the character.

I'm not that surprised that the film was a direct-to-video, but was a good film nonetheless. I love the Darkman character, and I'm dissapointed there isn't very much of a fan following. I just wish another Darkman film was made, or a TV series, which is a even better idea, because the Darkman films are fantastic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good, but still watchable...
This second sequel to "Darkman" maintains the visual style of the first two, has great music, a few good action moments, and a very good performance from Arnold Vosloo as the hero. These are the four things I liked most about "Darkman 3: Die Darkman Die," which isn't a bad movie, but it's not very good either. I'm not only a fan of Darkman, I'm also a fan of Sam Raimi, Liam Neeson, and Arnold Vosloo. Given this, I was sad to see Raimi and Neeson leave the franchise, but am thankful for Vosloo's performance. He does a great Darkman/Westlake and the sequels, especially this movie, have him to thank. While the second was a great follow-up, this film is a little on the stupid side. Jeff Fahey, overacting in every scene, plays bad guy Peter Rooker, who is a drug dealer who is after Darkman when a large sum of money is stolen from him. The plot digs deeper into Rooker's life and soon Darkman is disguising himself as Rooker and befriends his wife and daughter. Darkman soon makes a vow that he will not get involved with the family, that he is only after Peter. But soon Darkman's light side gets the better of him. The movie is bleeding with predictable moments and painfully awful one-liners. Thankfully, director Bradford May keeps a dark, violent tone to the movie and mostly keeps the movie serious about itself. There are a few unintentionally funny moments, more so than in the second, and this hurts the movie a little. I suppose the reason to see this film is if you liked the first two. I did, and gladly added this one to my collection. I have no regrets about it, but take fair warning: only fans will enjoy this one. Everyone else will be in the dark.

5-0 out of 5 stars Darkman 3 on DVD WoW
I wont take too much time here, just wanted to state that Darkman 3 is awesome. I have all 3 on DVD, added these to my collection of DVD movie sets. Darkman ranks up there with the best, like Indiana Jones, Aliens, Star Wars, Die hard, you get the point. There isnt too many good horror, thriller, sets out there. Many thanks to the whole crew, and set for giving us the Darkman trillogy. By the way if your wondering how I came across this one on DVD. I purchased it through the internet, it is however region 4, as you know most US DVD players are region 1. If you own a Sony Playstation 2, you have the best DVD player since it is an all region player. Just go to set up then choose witch region setting you want ( 1-9 ). Hope this helps

3-0 out of 5 stars Darkman 3
Just as the two in the series prior, this is dark/brooding. The major draw for this movie like Darkman 2 is the star "Arnold Vosloo". The first in the series with Liam Neeson is the best, however I being a Vosloo fan have all 3 in my collection. If you are a fan you should enjoy this one.Lisa C. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Hidden Treasure
Clint Eatwoods in the 90's just got better and better as a director. This is wonderfull movie and I cant wait for it to be released on DVD

5-0 out of 5 stars the African episode
Clint Eastwood captures the machismo and bravado and the wit of John Huston perfectly and he gets some of the elegance and the grace which he also had in abundance and which made him one of the most interesting of characters. A more complex actor may have given a more layered performance but its pretty hard not to admire what he does with the role. Eastwood is also a legend but of a different type and from a different era and his own legend status may have interfered with the filmgoing publics ability to accept him in this role playing not himself(as we always assumed he was doing)but a different legend. I think it works very well though. You can tell Eastwood is examining his own mythic stature as he examines Hustons.
The last scene of the movie has Eastwood/Huston sitting in his directors chair ready to shoot the first scene of African Queen. The movie documents Hustons conflicting desires to be both a man who lives life fully and to be an artist. The two urges come into conflict when Huston must cater to the studio executives who want to control what he does. His endless battles with studio representatives is great comedy. He enlists the young screenwriter "Pete" as an ally, or attempts to. (Pete is the one who eventually writes the book this movie is based on.) Huston wants Pete to be as fearless as he is and Pete is taken in by the charm of the great director but not all the way in. Pete is his own man, and Huston encourages that but also comes up against it when they disagree. Sometimes Hustons willfullness is heroic as when he acts out of principle. In one of the best scenes of the movie a blonde socialite makes some antisemitic remarks unaware that Pete is Jewish. Huston defends his screenwriter and friend but not immediately, rather using all his charm and guile (which is dropped only at the last minute) he tells the blonde socialite a long story about another blonde socialite and there is no way for this antisemitic blonde socialite not to know just who the story is about... you will never forget the tell off after you have seen it. Other times however the willfullness just seems like simple childishness and irresponsibity and is at least one of the contributing factors in an accidental death. Eastwood/Huston gets beaten up pretty good in one scene(which proves just how far he'll go) and he wears the scars like badges through several scenes. You can't help like him and admire him for going through life in such cavalier fashion but you are also kind of sickened at times that he is so egocentric and callous towards others. So it is an unusual movie with a lead character that you both do and don't like. Its not what people expect from Eastwood. Its deeper, more complex. It is a thinking mans biography- adventure movie. Hustons African escapade begins as an outward journey to conquer and therby prove his greatness as a man by killing an elephant and ends with him coming to his senses... finally. Only by going too far far too many times does he realize how destructive his megolomania really was. Great character study, and great looking film. My favorite Eastwood movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent, unusual movie.
Clint Eastwood reaches his summit, both as an actor and a director in White Hunter, Black Heart. A penetrating, highly involved movie, based on facts. Eastwood playnig the lead is a self-centered, megalomaniac movie-director, who sacrifices everything and everybody around him during a trip in Africa, just to fulfill his own ambition to shoot an elephant. His obsessive behaviour leads to ultimate destruction, when at the last moment, he finds himselve unable to shoot, getting his African guide killed in the progress.Eastwood is excellent as the charming, but egoistical director. Jeff Fahey is surprisingly good as his writer friend and the supporting cast, portraying among others real life actors Katherine Hepburne and Humphry Bogard are so realistic it is difficult to believe that they are not really the people they pretend to be. A work of art in every meaning of the word.

5-0 out of 5 stars african queen meets dirty harry
american director travels to africa to shoot movie, becomes obsessed with shooting elephants instead. his desire to bag his hunt alienates him from his cast and crew and the natives. great scenery, a good movie for guys to watch with their buddies and drink beer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eastwood's finest work as an artist.
It's fitting that in this film Eastwood plays a director who travels into the harsh conditions of Africa to shoot a film that satisfies his artistic expression but makes the studio-heads nervous because the movie is not "commercial" enough. This is certainly a reflection of what Eastwood, known for his bankability as a tough-talking action star, has done in "White Hunter, Black Heart". This was probably Eastwood's riskiest actor/director project since "Honkeytonk Man" in the early eighties. This makes Eastwood's leap-of-faith all the more admirable considering this is probably his best film as a director; even better than "Unforgiven". The film is also Eastwood's best work as an actor; anyone who still thinks that Eastwood is a one-note actor should see the way he re-invents himself in this film, playing a character unlikle anything you have ever seen before. The picture is based on the true-story of John Huston while he was shooting "The African Queen", but the film has more similarities to the works of Joseph Conrad - A man journeying into the heart of Africa to test his true manhood and to battle his personal demons. This is one of Eastwood's most unique and intelligent films. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Epic battle of Good versus Evil
This film deals with the issues of who will own you soul. It is more of a thoughtful movie with good suspense. I especially enjoyed the "virtual reality" aspects. If you are into computers or enjoy computer games, this part of the story will intrigue you.

Already in our world there is hatred for Christian moral beliefs. It is only natural that those who hate God will try to convince Christians that they are either insane or are not intellegent enough for society.

Parts of the movie imply retraining and some of the members of a church are imprisoned and killed. There is quite a bit of violence, but nothing in comparrison to most movies. I would not recommend this for children.

The main story is of a father searching for his daughter and wife who have dissapeared in the rapture. Through his contact with the underground Christians, he learns about God and why these people are willing to die for God. The Christians in the movie are set up and are said to be terrorists.

There are many movies in the series I hope to be watching them all eventually.

If you enjoy this movie, you might also enjoy reading Mind Seige or reading the Tim LaHaye novels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! It was entertaining and thought provoking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant!... Best film since Left Behind!
This film will have you screaming at the screen from beginning to end. The events of the Bible after the rapture begin to unwravel as the Day Of Wonders draws closer and the Antichrist takes his seat in the temple of God. Helen Hannah and her christian crew are joined by athest Thorough Stone after he loses his wife and child in the rapture. Night and day their at work undercover trying to descover what the Day Of Wonders is all about. As the storyline continues Helen's athiest brother helps out by working to crack the codes that block the information about the Day of Wonders but as the codes begin to unwravel, Mancuso's (the devil)intentions become more than clear. Trapped in a virtually reality world with no one but Mancuso in sight, every man and woman that enters the Day of Wonders is tempted by Mancuso and his temporary gifts into recieving the mark of the beast on their right hand.
This film will leave you clinging to the edge of your seat as the shocking realism of the devil and his lies comes into a new focus on your very TV screen. By the end of the credits you'll find youself scared, a little wiser, worried and desperate for a sequel. See 'Tribulation' Part 3 in the Apocalypse trilogy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very impactful
I couldn't decide between 4 and 5 stars, so I just gave this movie 5 stars. I really think that it gets 4.5 stars, though. This movie was a very impactful movie. This movie shows that Jesus is victorious and that satan is a wimp when he's fighting God! We know the end-God wins! This movie was suspense-filled and keeps you watching till the last minute. Will people see the truth about God before it's too late? Who will take the mark of the antichrist? Who will be deceived? Watch this movie to find out! I don't see how anyone could watch this movie and not be impacted to live for God. I believe that the Rapture is coming soon, and we need to be ready, not asleep. Make a choice for God. This movie can show you how God protects His children. If you would like to be saved, pray this simple prayer:
Dear God,
I admit that I'm a sinner. I believe that your son, Jesus, died on the cross and rose again so that I would not go to hell. I confess my sins. Please forgive me and come into my heart. I want to be your child. Please be my Father. Thank you for your wonderful gift of life! If you just prayed that prayer and really meant it, then you will not be left behind, because you will have believe in God. Also read the book of Revelation for more information about the Rapture, the Tribulation and the Great Tribulation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Well Done
Cloud Ten Pictures is pretty good at doing end times films. I'd say Revelation is probably better than Left Behind, but not as good as A Thief in the Night. I really think that if Cloud Ten Pictures wants to finish the Left Behind series, they should stick with it, but I really like this one along with Left Behind. It starts out a little slow in the beginning, but picks up right away about 1/3 of the way there. You'll enjoy iy thoroughly.
Thorold Stone (Jeff Fahey) is still wallowing in self-pity, and denial after the sudden disappearance of his wife, daughter, and people all over the globe one seemingly normal afternoon. It is now three months after the occurance, and the world is in total chaos. The people still on the world trust in the new government organization called O.N.E. With a simple virtual reality helmet, people can go anywhere, and do anything in their own homes, but Macanuso is planning to do more with this device, much more, and Thorold and a band of newfound christians are bound to find out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kinski is sexy when aged
its about Kinski whos married and a buisnesswoman to Jeff Fahey([*** of a ***]in this movie). Kinski sorta has her fling with Josh Holloway and he wont leave her alone, when Holloway stares dead on its creepy, man he is creepy. highlights would be Kinski's nude scenes defenitly, ohh my godess

5-0 out of 5 stars My Wife Thinks I'm Trying to Run Off With Hudson Leick...
Okay, so I'm hooked. I just don't get enough performances out of my fave star. It's just not my fault. This quirky film treats us to some new twists of some old games. Did somebody say "Murder?" Even the missus liked this psychological thriller (she always likes films where the protagonist is slowly driven insane). Jeff Fahey (the Lawnmower Man himself) and Nastassia Kinski (Cat People)also deliver the goods. Hey, I think I'll go re-watch my DVD right now.

1-0 out of 5 stars the stupidest film ever!
Don't buy this worthless piece of garbage!
not only is it a sham and crock of
balogna...but the acting is terrible...

from the top with the Natasha dfljdfjs
all the way to Janne campbell...
I mean, were these women ever taught how to act,
at all? I suggest not putting your money down for this
movie or even wasting time watching it...
It is as boring as looking at your foot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all for an indie thriller
As I never expect a lot from indie thrillers, this one was far better than I thought. Although the twists and turns were not quite unpredictable, they still got you some way or another. Also, enjoy a good performance (and some real nice body shots) given by Nastassja Kinsky if you're a fan of hers. To me Nastassja looked much better with age and she really mastered the sex scenes when needed. Josh Holloway (playing the psycho depressed hunk) was fine too. I would give this movie 5 stars if they cast someone more convincing (like William H. Macy) in the place of Jeff Fahey. But, as I said, I never expect a lot.... ...

Unspeakable is a suitably spooky variation on The Silence of the Lambs crossed with The X-Files, and features a wonderfully delirious Dennis Hopper performance to boot. The legendary actor plays a gentleman sadist of a warden, with little tolerance for an experimental memory-graphing program in use at his prison by Diana, a resilient scientist (Dina Meyer). The capture of an escaped serial killer, Jesse (Pavan Grover), brings researcher and brilliant madman together in a Clarice-Hannibal fashion; the difference is that Grover's character is an evolved human with powerful telepathic abilities. Between invading Diana's thoughts and projecting fantasies into her memory machine, Jesse provokes guards and the warden himself into self-destructive insanity. Lance Henriksen and Jeff Fahey add extra substance to the cast, and the entire, grisly production has a sure-handed look and feel under the direction of Thomas J. Wright, a veteran of The X-Files, Angel, CSI, and much else. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well made directorial debut from Anthony Perkins.
After successful sequel in 1983. Screenwriter-Charles Edward Pogue(The 1986 Remake of The Fly, Dragonheart) wrote this darkly humour shocker. Anthony Perkins did a good job, directing his first movie. It has some good moments like Duane(Played by Jeff Fahey) and Norman fighting in the motel room and also teffic suspenseful scene in the swamp. It also has a good music score by Carter Burwell(Fargo, Three Kings, Being John Malkovich). The only problem with this one, is a bit selazy, a little chessy and something annoying(The reporter, played by Roberta Maxwell, she`s a bugger in this film). Some of the death scene(Something out of Friday The 13th Films are Pretty Good). Diana Scarwid did give a good performance as Maureen Coyle, as a troubled, navie young woman-who try to help Norman Bates and Fahey performance as Daune Duke- is probably as more sick and more crazy than Norman ever was.

Is a good thing, some of the dark humour is funny, at times-it really works in certain scenes. it has some good lines from Perkins and also he re-create some of the moment from Psycho.

Quality from Goodtimes DVD is good, it has good non-anamorphic Widescreen(1.85:1) transer and Dolby Surround is Impressive. Grade:B+.

5-0 out of 5 stars PSYCHO 3: The Most Shocking Of Them All!
PSYCHO 3 picks up right where PSYCHO 2 left off and the Bates Motel is back in buisness. This time, not only does Anthony Perkins reprise his role as Norman Bates, he also directs this film and it is his first directing debut. The story follows Norman as he attempts to have a relationship with a young woman who looks alot like Marion Crane (the woman who was stabbed in the shower in the original film). Norman also gives a job to a guitar-playing drifter as the assistant manager to running his motel. It isn't long though before Mother starts to interfere in Norman's relationship, and soon bodies begin to pile up in the swamp behind the Bates Motel. All in all, this is another great sequel follow-up to Alferd Hitchcock's original, even though this one is a bit more violent and sexually explicit, there's also some dark humor that makes this sequel more interesting and unique.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining Sequel!
Picking up where Psycho 2 left off, Norman Bates is a free man living in his old home behind the Bates Motel, his new stuffed mother his only roommate. He lives a quiet life managing the less than successful business, spending most of his time practicing taxidermy on the local birds that eat from his poisoned feeder. But things get all shook up again when Maureen Coyle, a young, runaway nun, enters his world. Maureen's short, blonde hair reminds Norman far too much of his most unforgettable victim, Marion Crane, causing a myriad of conflicting feelings to well up within him. But Norman is not the only one who is disturbed and confused. Maureen has left the Church because she has so lost her faith that she recently attempted suicide and caused the death of a fellow nun who attempted to stop her. With her feelings of hopelessness and guilt, Maureen still hasn't given up on the idea of taking her own life. And Maureen is not Norman's only problem. Duane Duke, a pretty boy, would-be singing star with a dark side on his way to L.A., has come by the Bates Motel looking for a job. Norman immediately makes him Assistant Manager in charge of the day shift. But while Norman should be keeping a close eye on Duane's improper interests and activities, it's Duane who's keeping a sharp eye on him. And Duane isn't the only one. A nosy reporter has turned up in town and is asking questions about Norman, who wants nothing but to be left alone to TRY to have a normal life. Things aren't looking good for Norman at all. It's hard enough for him to battle off his mother's urges while he attempts to start a relationship with Maureen, without having to deal with all the watching eyes springing up around him. When Duane's nocturnal sextivities and a group of anxious young sports fans eventually result in an abundance of "sluts" at the usually peaceful motel, it quickly becomes more than Norman, or Mother, can stand.

Anthony Perkins' directorial debut is an excellent example of how not all sequels, even number threes, have to stink. In fact, except for the Bates Motel series pilot "movie" that didn't have Perkins in it at all, I'd have to say all the Psycho films are pretty darn good. None of the sequels make any attempt to be Hitchcockian, yet they all keep the stories and characters intact and a step above the usual slasher fair. The duality of the Norman Bates character that Hitchcock presented so well in the original is clearly what gives the sequels so much to work with. This man's entire life is interesting and worth chronicling, not just that first major incident in the 60s. Of course, as with the other sequels, this film is in color, and quite gory and sexual, unlike the original classic film. But this just helps to provide a nice separation for those who dislike sequels and feel the Hitchcock Masterpiece should have been left alone. For the rest of us, this film is an excellent addition to Norman Bates' legacy, with plenty of moments that keep you guessing about what will happen next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still going strong
"Psycho III" takes place a few weeks after part II ended. Norman is as crazy as ever, still talking to 'Mother'. But now he is trying to help suicidial ex-nun Maureen Coyle (Diane Scarwid) and thug guitarist Duane Duke (Jeff Fahey) while trying to aviod a nosey reporter. Well, it's part three, and it really has nothing new to add to the formula. But dose have dark humor and some grisly violence. Anthony Perkins directed this entry, and he did a competant job. My favorite scene was when Norman leaves a hospital room and closes the door into his own room, it was such a smooth transition that I never noticed until the door was closed; it was great and I loved it. Norman Bates is still a boy trapped in a man's body, trying to do the right thing but still obaying 'Mother'. Scarwid is ok as the doubting nun, good but not great. Fahey's theif was cool, a kind of strung out James Dean. "Psycho III" just not great, but it is still very good for a part three in a series.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lunatick Psycho-Sexual Norman isn't interesting anymore
I'm a diehard Tony Perkins fans, but even that doesn't make me enjoy this garbage any better.

I hated the way Tony added sexuality to the Psycho franchise. In Psycho 3, you will see more breasts and sex scenes than you cared too. And the language was almost x-rated for me (vibrators & "getting off" are mentioned in the film). Even Norman starts to get anxious for Maureen after they both get drunk.

There was too much violence also. Too much blood, and stabbings, and throat cuttings. The beauty of the original PSYCHO (1960), was that everything was subtle. No nudity, language, or even violence. The shower scene never showed Janet Leigh getting stabbed. This film was also too dark. Norman, mother, murder, mental illness was pushed too far, and you can only take so much from a movie. The only good thing was the music, by Carter Burwell. The music was just as good as the original. ... Read more

Description

Passion. Betrayal. Murder. Three different stories. Three different lies. Jeff Fahey (White Hunter, Black Heart) stars with Bridget Fonda (Aria, A Simple Plan) and J.T. Walsh (House of Games) in this steaming psychological thriller. After buying out a depressed "rust-belt" steel town, an arrogant Japanese tycoon is assaulted and nearly killed. It's soon revealed that the wealthy foreigner is entangled in a deadly, erotic triangle involving his own ravishing American wife and a young, out-of-work ex-steelworker who sees his hometown heritage being destroyed. "Iron Maze" is a gripping examination of cultures and passions in collision. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Iron Maze - Who?
The time - the late 80s.

The place - a Pennsylvania steel town in the grips of a recession.

Against this less-than-pleasant backdrop is set a story of jealousy and violence. Who did what to who? Why did who do what to who? Who is telling the truth about what who did what to who and why who did what to who?

Although this movie should have been good, it comes across as mediocre. The acting is so-so, some sections of the movie seem to wander, it leaves you with the feeling that it should have been better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eric Red, a good filmmaker.
A well-made horror thriller that is surprisingly good but at the same time seams to have something wrong with it. Jeff Fahey plays a criminal psychologist who loses his arm in a car accident but gets it replaced with another by emergency surgical replacement. The good thing is it works. The bad thing is he has little control over it. Yes indeed you may have seen many other horror films like this but director/co-writer Eric Red knows how to make a old story line seem new, but the film's screenplay seems to have some plot implausibilities, the film wath's to have two story lines going and the ending is too happy. A lot of theaters pulled the film after the Jeffrey Dahmer story hit the news. Red's next was BED MOON (1996).

1991. Paramount. 88 MINS.

Rated R (Violence and Language).

4-0 out of 5 stars A knockout ride of a thriller.
Jeff Fahey's life goes to hell when he receives an arm transplant after an auto accident. Turns out the arm came from a serial killer! Written and directed by genre favorite Eric Red, Body Parts is mostly superior entertainment from beginning to end. Fast-paced, with several exciting action sequences (The pseudo-car chase and hospital finale come to mind) and a decent mystery make certain the movie never lets up. Drags a few times in the beginning and the story gets maybe a little too silly, but this is overall a gripping horror/thriller. Fahey is superb, as is Brad Dourif as an eccentric painter.
*** 1/2 out of *****

4-0 out of 5 stars Fady Ghaly's reviews
This is a very interesting film that is as clever as it is scary. A real horror film that will, by the time its narrative will have completely unfolded, have you so very much involved that you'd presume you were on the opposite side of that screen of yours. And I'll go as far as saying that it'll virtually expunge the thought of you exhaling throughout the last half-hour of it, when great havoc arose among our three afflicted leading men whose lives were completely turned upside-down...or shall I say-targets.

Written and directed by Eric Red, and based upon the novel Choice Cuts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, Body Parts is an exhilarating and tightly-paced film that gets under your skin and lingers long after you've seen it. This well-written work-of-art does more than provide great direction, stunning visuals, grotesque and harrowing scenes that are beyond suitable for the lily-livered, and startling action sequences; in addition, it provides superb performances from the entire cast. What can I say? Once the cast is in character and the cameras are rolling, brace yourself for some realistic work. Here you have the underrated Brad Dourif, who perfectly-to no surprise-depicts the eccentric, chilling and edgy roll of Remo Lacey, a mad artist whose isolation from the rest of the world allows him to pursue with his work, which is influenced by the same disturbing nightmares Jeff Fahey's character undergoes, who'll really just keep you breathless as the affects of his transplant gradually began to show and he, to his horror, altered into this completely new, fanatical man without a wife to wake up with or children to kiss goodnight. Many horror films lack in great performances, as you would surely know by now, but this film possibly has the finest I've ever seen!

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic horror/action thriller
Superb, realistic performances, great direction and writing, striking visuals, powerful and startling action and horror sequences, and overall great filmmaking, create a thriller of rare believeability and involvement. I am a great fan of director Eric Red's films, and this is the best of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sick and Twisted Fun!
If you're in the mood for an incredibly silly, goofy, and gory horror flick, this is it! Jeff Fahey stars as a guy who loses his arm in a car accident and gets another one surgically attached. But gosh darn it! The arm belonged to a serial killer *gasp*! The one and only Brad Dourif co-stars (and steals every scene he is in) as the eccentric artist who got the other arm. You can't take this movie seriously or else its no fun. Just sit back, relax, and laugh your head off. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Martial arts Shoot 'em up.
Based on the reviews I've read about this film here on amazon and on other sites(imdb, etc.) I knew I'd either love or hate the film. If you're a fan of westerns or martial art movies then you'll appreciate how Ghost Rock tips it's hat to many of the old and new classics. But beware. This is a B-movie with C-list actors. If you can only watch A-list movies then stay away. Cheers! To Lions Gate for giving a fairly average movie a chance to find it's audience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Trying To Give The Western A Good Kick In The Britches!
Always A Critic, But Never A Filmmaker... That is what comes to mind when I read these last two reviews. I have been in the film business 25 years and have never ceased to be amused by those wana "bees" who think they can just go out and make a better movie. Only people that have made films will never say they can make a better movie and those who have no idea how will always talk about how their Beer Buddy "college films" were better or how they "often think about writing and producing a low budget movie"....OMG, if life were just that easy.

I think it is worth noting that below the comment was made that there was "no lap dancing in the old west". THE WHOLE JOKE OF THE SCENE IN THE FILM IS THE GIRL INVENTS LAP DANCING (a defining moment of one of the characters).... And the poker chips were WOOD, not plastic. Again when I read a review from people that were obviously not even watching the film, it makes it a little tough to take seriously...

But, back to the matter at hand. I bought this not expecting Unforgiven or Tombstone because there is generally a huge difference between 30 million dollar films and probably a 1 million dollar film. Ghost Rock is far from perfect but at least it has a story and gives us characters with an arc, unlike the majority of straight to video films. Remember, if you are buying a film that is just mindless action, forget about it. This is really a drama with several action scenes (the last 15 minutes being one big one). The scenery is nice (and yes that includes Michael Worth, Jenya Lano, Christa Sauls, Jeff Fahey and the shirtless Indian guy), the action scenes are well choreographed and the acting is better than normal for these independents.

Actor Worth (also the writer) is not afraid to be vunerable, which is unusual in these films as the good guy is generally comic book-like in being the hero. Plus, instead of writing himself in every scene, he turns over much of the heroics to a female character which from a feminists point of view shows a secure fella : ) But, Worth is more of an actor and not an "action star-type" so that twist on the character is not surprising. The female lead (Lano) is sort of a reverse Eastwood (but not the scene mugging Sharon Stone in The Quick And The Dead) and she and Worth have great chemistry though they spend too little time on screen together. Busey is...well, Busey. You love him or hate him, either way, he's himself. You can tell Worth and director Dustin Rikert were not taking everything so seriously as Busey makes references to his Buddy Holly days in one scene.

The film has it's holes and it's shortcomings no doubt, but reading their web site, it seems obvious this was due to producer cutting and not the writing or filmmaking as most holes (How a Cowboy knows martial arts, where the Japanese prostitue came from, etc) was all in the original story. But, without knowing that, I can see where they have left some problems with their film. But there is some really nice music and the cinematography is far from being as bad as some have described it elsewhere. I just wish the DVD had some more features as aside from the trailer it is pretty barebones and some deleted scenes, making of, etc. would have made this a much higher recommendation.

So, if you are looking to rag on a low budget western, might as well rent it so you can go for it. If you are loking for production value of Open Range or Tombstone, look elsewhere (but remember some great low budget westerns like The Hired Hand...?). If you are a fan of Busey, Worth, Lano or Fahey, all four of them show here they can act (and write....) and though I have seen little of Lano and Worth before, I hope to again. Ghost Rock will not appeal to everyone obviously (ie: below) but if more of the straight to video type films were like this, we would all be buying a lot more films. Three stars for genre bending, Worth's ass, Lano's ass, a heroic love story and yes...lap dancing!

1-0 out of 5 stars I don't think lap dancing was invented in the wild west :(
I've often thought about writing and producing a low budget movie, but hesitated do to lack of cinematic quality. After the release of this movie, the bar has been set very low. I've made better films in college with part-time actors (beer buddies).
Bad writing, bad cinematography, bad editing, but ok acting. I think that this movie was way too low budget and must have been made by a bunch of actors who were out of regular work...ie. Gary Busey...and that other guy...what did star in? Sad, sad, sad.
The only positive thing that I can think of about this movie is that there were some good looking men like Jeff Fahey...and that other guy :)

1-0 out of 5 stars Wow
I did not think a movie made this poorly could actually make it through production and be released. I picked up a copy because I witnessed a few sceenes being filmed in Old Tucson....I thought I would keep the DVD as a novelty. No way. Bad movie. Bad acting, camera work, cinematography, and especially bad writing. A few actors looked as though they could have done better with higher quality writing...I felt a bit sorry for them. Maybe good to view for a quick chuckle at low-quality movie making. Otherwise, avoid this flick.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wild west...not
Oh my. I don't know where to start. What good things can I say about this movie? Not very much. There were so many "jump cuts" (dialog, clothing and items that are out of time in a peirod movie)I was sure this western was set in the 1990's. Now I'm not a history expert, but I'm kinda sure they didn't have plasic poker chips in the 1880's. There are too many others to mention
The plot was weaker then watered down drink in a cheap bar. The acting was...bad, very bad. This was not even a B movie. The only good thing I can say was it had some ok kung foo...but what white guys knew kung foo in the 1880's? Maybe this was just a tax right off for some studio head. Who ever green lighted this should be sent back to the mail room. ... Read more
