Description

Based on a remarkable true story, "Remember the Titans" follows the explosive dramatic events that took place in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 when African-American football coach Herman Boone (Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington) was hired to guide an integrated but racially polarized high school team, the T.C. Williams Titans. Angry, stubborn and a rigid task master, Boone faces a cool reception from the team's players as well as an awkward relationship with assistant coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton), a local white coach with seniority and a tradition of winning who was bypassed for the job. As the two men learn to overcome their ignorance and bigotry and realize that they have much in common and integrity, honor and a strong work ethic. They work together to transform a group of angry unfocused players into a dynamic winning team of responsible young men. In the process, they also unite a divided community and ensure that Virginia will always "Remember the Titans." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You will remember the titans...
No matter whether you're a fan of sports or not, Remember the Titans is an incredibly inspiring film.
Based on a true story, it is set in 1971 at TC Williams High School, a school that is about to intergrate white and balck students for the first time.
The school's football team meet pre-season, and the separate white and balck groups must learn to get along under the guidance of Coach Herman Boon (Denzel Washington).
What follows is a remarkably touching and powerful story, that mixes tragedy and success.
Great acting by all involved, especially the black members of the cast, who are funny and add something else to an already 5-star film.
For movie fans of all genres, Remember the Titans is a great movie that will inspire you and having you watch it again and again. This is the greatest sports film ever made, and it is sure to have watching intently from beginning to end.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MOVING STORY OF HEROIC DETERMINATION
Denzel Washington is Coach Boone, a black football coach who finds himself in unfamiliar territory when he is appointed head coach of a high school team in its first year of intergration. When the fomer coach Yoast agrees to be his assistant it seems that turmoil and not determination will rule the squad.

Boone's determination to win is only outmatched by his drive for racial harmony within the team and coaching staff. By forcing his players to interact he creates bonds and friendships. Throughout all of this he knows he must win or his tenure as head coach will be short lived. He must not only battle the racial tension in the team, but in the town as well. Only his sheer will can guide his team to the promised land.

The movie is an outstanding piece of cinema. It adresses a social issue with raw emotional power. It teaches a lesson without screaming it in your face. The acting is without a doubt full of some of the best performances of the year to not have been recognized by Oscar and the likes. While Denzel Washington and Will Patton are phenomenal the show is stolen by the members of the team. Watch this film and you will get the point. An emotional five star film worth watching again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down, one of the greatest movies I ever watched.
Believe it or not, I never even heard of this movie until recently. I'm not a big sports fan, or a sport movie fan so when my boyfriend brough this over to watch, I was less than thrilled.

However, once it started, I was captivated by it.

The movie is made even better based on the fact it is based on a true story. The jist of it is this... Herman Boone, played by Denzel Wahsinton perfectly, takes over as new head coach at a high school that has been desegregated. Naturally, the town has mixed reactions.

We watch as Boone, uses tactics that neither the players, the parents, the townsfolk or even his assistant coaches like to force the players to not only become a team but also respect each other as people. We watch as friendships form, and as a team forms.

Eventually we watch as the winning football team, and essentially Boone brings the town together.

This movie brings something to the table for everyone. I laughed, I cried, I even cheered during the games. A must see!

4-0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC FOOTBALL MOVIE
this movie is not only very compelling but also has good morals involving racism ,alcohol, and it rele shows how people of different backgrounds can come together when circumstances get rough. this movie is probally for ages 10 -and up because its a lil slow if you are too young to understand the concept of racism and football if you like good drama movies or football movies watch this movie its a legend itself as the titans were in the movie. a small town highschool breaks the color barrior having both whites and blacks on one team some players accept it and others dont and there black coach (denzel washington who plays an excellant part ) gets threats but still coaches his team to victory REMEMBER TO WATCH THIS MOVIE

With only one major star (Denzel Washington), an appealing cast of fresh unknowns, and a winning emphasis of substance over self-indulgent style, Boaz Yakin's Remember the Titans is, like Rudy before it, a football movie that will be fondly remembered by anyone who sees it.

Set in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1971, the fact-based story begins with the integration of black and white students at T. C. Williams High School. This effort to improve race relations is most keenly felt on the school's football team, the Titans, and bigoted tempers flare when a black head coach (Washington) is appointed and his victorious predecessor (Will Patton) reluctantly stays on as his assistant. It's affirmative action at its most potentially volatile, complicated by the mandate that the coach will be fired if he loses a single game in the Titans' 13-game season. The players represent a hotbed of racial tension, but as the team struggles toward unity and gridiron glory, Remember the Titans builds on several subplots and character dynamics to become an inspirational drama of Rocky-like proportions.

Yakin--whose debut, Fresh, was one of the best independent films of the 1990s--understands the value of connecting small scenes to form a rich climactic payoff. Likewise, Washington provides a solid dramatic foundation (his coach is obsessively harsh, but for all the right reasons) while giving his younger co-stars ample time in the spotlight. The result is a film that achieves what it celebrates: an enriching sense of unity that's unquestionably genuine. (Ages 9 and older) --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Chick flick? Yes. But men will laugh too!
I think this movie would have gotten a more informed review from movie critics who could actually relate to the African-American female experience. If you have lived the Black female experience, then you will realize why women flocked to this movie in droves, dragging their husbands and boyfriends along with them. Finally, someone was telling a story about the joy and support of friendship, the pain and anger of loss of love. At the same time, the cinematographer made Black people look beautiful on-screen.

Best scenes, Bernadine (Angela Bassett) destroying her ungrateful husband's material possessions, then meeting the surprise man of her dreams. People refer to this as a man-bashing story, but I'd like to point out there were actually two men who revealed themselves as strong, loyal, and moral characters in the movie.

Written by Terry McMillan, directed by Forest Whitaker, and acted by a strong ensemble cast - notably Angela Bassett (who can do no wrong in film), Loretta Devine, and Gregory Hines. Waiting to Exhale was the precursor to Soul Food, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Eve's Bayou, Love Jones and more films featuring a Black, ensemble cast. Hollywood, are you listening? There is a market for these movies!

4-0 out of 5 stars Inhale. Exhale. Repeat.
Depending on who you are, Terry McMillan's 1992 novel "Waiting to Exhale" is either a blessing or a dreaded curse. McMillan's third novel about four African American women struggling to attain stability, identity, and normalcy in Phoenix was praised in some circles for giving contemporary Black women a much-needed voice. But in other circles, mostly male, "Waiting to Exhale" was ripped to shreds as a spiteful and ungrounded damnation of Black men as philanderers, deadbeats, and no-good-dooers. It also made McMillan the biggest literary target of criticsm since Alice Walker unleashed her novel "the Color Purple." But whatever your take on the book is, the film adaptation won't likely change your stance, as it stays overall faithful to the book. Director Forest Whitaker does a respectable job bringing to life these characters: Savannah (Whitney Houston) is the buppie still in search for Mr. Right; Bernadine (Angela Bassett) just got dumped by her husband of 11 years for a white woman; Robin (Lela Rochon) is the ditzy bimbo still trying to shake off her no-good ex, and Gloria (Loretta Devine) is the full-figured owner of a successful hair salon. The best performances, hands down, are Bassett and Devine, who make the best impressions, and they help keep the film moving at a good pace. The script, co-written by McMillan, is crisp with enough funny one-liners and a story compelling enough to keep the viewer interested. But there are flaws. Whitney Houston struggles in her role as Savannah; her performance is wooden and forced, and when paired against a seasoned pro like Bassett, she flat out crumbles. A more relaxed approach to the material would have helped. Also, memo to Black filmmakers: drop the swishy gay hairdresser stereotype! It's tired, done a million times before, and, frankly, is grossly out of touch with reality. That aside, it's not often that a movie successfully adapts a novel as well as this one, and "Waiting to Exhale," warts and all, merits a B in my school of cinema.

4-0 out of 5 stars Blah Blah Blah @ The Critiquing Of This Movie
This is a great movie, will definately keep you laughing at the Diva's in this movie. So what the movie is not as good and thorough as the book(what movie is?) I mean if you want ever detailed in a book put on screen then we will still be sitting in the movie theatre trying to see the end.

2-0 out of 5 stars good
This should have been better but Angela Bassett's performance was the best, so I guess it's worth a watch.

5-0 out of 5 stars "No she di-uhn": A different type of review
Okay, so I've read every review on this movie, and none of them touch upon the things that I (and most of my friends) personally think make this movie great. One might say this movie is man-bashing, woman-empowering, etc, etc, and while it IS about these things, I think that those aspects pale in comparison to why this movie is great for me: these women are such DIVAS, it's RIDICULOUSLY hilarious! The lines that come out of their mouths, and the situations that they get themselves into are utterly jaw-dropping, causing you to say "NO SHE DIDN'T" just say that! "No, she DIDN'T just do that!" "NO SHE DIDN'T" just have sex with a man and say "my body NEEDS this!" You are constantly left absolutely amazed with the boldness, brashness, and utter DIVA-ness of these crazy hoochie ghetto mamas, who do and say the things that you wouldn't dare do yourself. If you are into seeing beautiful black divas who know they da sh*t, work their bad-a** selves and shake their booties, and still come out clean without breakin their acrylic nails, then you will think this movie is off the hizzy. If you don't understand what I just meant when I said all that, then you probably won't appreciate the humor in these BLACK DIVAS! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Adaptation
A wonderful up to date retelling of Jane Austen's, 'Emma'. Cher (Silverstone) has a privileged life, she goes to a great school and is popular along with her good friend Dionne (Dash).

She lives with her widowed father (Hedaya) and the only pebble under her perfectly manicured feet is her ex step-brother Josh (Rudd).

Cher loves to play matchmaker and can't resist the challenge when she meets the new girl in school, Ty, who isn't exactly 'popular' material at first glance. Having taken her under her wing and given her a complete makeover, Cher then tries to match her up with various boys.

This is alright until Ty takes a fancy to Josh and then Cher suddenly realises that she has feelings for him herself - but who will get the man?

Silverstone is absolutely fantastic in this film. She handles the difficult role SO well and you can't help but really like Cher and want her to get the man of her dreams for all her obvious flaws.

Add a brilliant combination of comedy, both oneliners and visual, and the fact that it's literally such a colourful movie and you've got yourself a film that will leave you smiling for ages afterwards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic! Classic! Classic!
This clever, modern retelling of Jane Austen's novel "Emma " was one of the best high-school theme films made in the past twenty years. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling ("Fast Times at Ridgemont High"; "Look Who's Talking) spent a year in the lives of several teens at various high schools in Los Angeles to give the filmgoer a truly authentic look at life among the young social elites of Southern California.

Alicia Silverstone ("Excess Baggage"; "Batman & Robin") stars as Cher Horowitz, a young, hip teen residing with her lawyer father (Dan Hedaya) in Beverly Hills. Along with best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash of "Mo' Money"), the girls are the doers of social good deeds at their high school. Whether it is trying to play matchmaker for two lonely teachers (playwright Wallace Shawn and Twink Caplan, who is also an executive producer of the film) or doing a serious make over for Tai (Brittany Murphy) a new, dowdy student from the east coast, Cher is the toast of the school among her peers.

However, playing matchmaker for others has made Cher realized that she too needs to find someone special in her life. Pestered by her ex-stepbrother Josh (Paul Rudd) in doping deeds that benefits others and not only herself, Cher discovers that what she truly needs is a spiritual makeover that will allow her to attain happiness and respect. Yet, she wonders why it bothers her so much on what Josh is thinking? As the story progresses, we discover that opposites attract and Cher has realized how "clueless" she was while looking for Mr. Right.

Wonderfully directed and casted,"Clueless" features some memorable performance by Julie Brown (as Ms. Stoger, the physical education instructor), Donald Faison (as Dionne's boyfriend Murray) and Justin Walker, as Christian Stovitz. Walker who plays his role with comedic sensibility is great and witty as the boy Cher has the hots for, although she has little knowledge about his background.

"Clueless" is one of the best films released in the 1990's due to his smart use of popular lexicon, icons, and attitudes that can be attributed to most American teenagers. This is Silverstone's greatest performance to date, seeing that most of her later works did not go well with critics or filmgoers. Although a television series based on the film was launched in 1997, it couldn't capture the charm, wit, and performances of this film. "Clueless" is a classic teenage film you can watch over and over again. It's destined to become a cult classic

4-0 out of 5 stars Clueless... uhhh
What can I say about this movie? It's like any other teenage movie, about teenagers in high school trying to meet cute guys and stuff. Same old thing! I used to not like it at the beginning, but now I sorta like it, it's alright. I got it as a present for my 8th grade birthday party, I didn't even know that movie until I got it. So anyways, I think you should buy this movie even if you dont like teenager movies, youll like this one!

4-0 out of 5 stars ditsy fun!!!
Have you ever wanted to watch something ditsy that also makes you think while laughing? Alicia Silverstone shines in the role of Cher, the daughter of a wealthy lawyer who has style and loves to make people happy through friendship and makeovers. However, she cannot make herself happy even though she strives to make a difference in the world. People don't take her seriously. People think that all she is good for is shopping. She helps an outcast named Tai become the most popular girl in school, and she realizes that she is jealous of Tai. She realizes that she must give her soul a makeover! It's Legally Blonde, but smarter! A great comedy with a great cast!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ULTIMATE TEEN MOVIE-A CLASSIC
I love this movie so much that its not even worth talking about, because no words will express what a brilliantly put together, acted, written and presented film this is.And talk about feel-good, and FUN.Also, Clueless is living proof that there are teen comedies out there that aren't dumb, over the top shallow.Yes, Clueless is a light, and fluffy film, but since that is what it sets out to do(be light and fluffy and entertaining),thats just fine. And it accomplishes that goal perfectly-Clueless is a film second to none in its genre.

What sets it apart from other dumb tripe out there and makes it enjoyable for even the most weary of grown-ups is its great cast, unbelievably witty writing, and irresistable storylines that you can't help but get caught up in. The whole cast is great, but Alicia Silverstone is unforgettable. It is a pinnacle leading role for actresses in teen movies. She simply sparkles from scene one.An who could ever forget the sets and costumes??

Simply, a classic in the genre, and one of the best comedies of the nineties.A weekend popcorn movie to curl up in bed with that also has wit and charisma and intelligence to boot. Not to mention, its still not old after the fifth billion time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kleenex required
"Uptown Girls" is a sentimental movie that you won't be able to forget. At the end, I desperately wanted to give a standing ovation to the characters on screen, some of whom were already giving a standing ovation.
Molly Gunn is a wealthy debutante still trying to get over her parents' death. When she goes into debt, she is forced to find a job. Molly becomes the nanny of "Ray" Schleine, a precocious 8-year-old girl who hides behind a mask to deal with her apathetic mother and comatose father. The two help each other to open up.
This movie has a good amount of humor, but it is not without moments that will make you bawl.
Brittany Murphy, despite not being as enjoyable as she was in "Just Married," is fun to watch as Molly. Dakota Fanning is very good as Ray, though she seems to lack Murphy's magic.
See this movie! Just don't forget the Kleenex.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dakota Shines - But The Movie Overall - Is Not as Bright!
This movie directed by Boaz Yakin (Fresh, Remember The Titans) has a certain charm to it. It was going for the warm fuzzy's and along the way found a real heart for me.

Cocky and not-so-bright Britney Murphy (Just Married, 8-Mile) plays a aristocratic well to do teen who suddenly looses what she ahs to find out she needs to get a real job. In her attempt she is befriended by a mother played by Heather Locklear (Looney Toons Back In Action, The First Wives Club) who needs a caretaker - babysitter for her young daughter played by Dakota Fanning (I Am Sam, The Cat In The Hat).

The two teach each other a valuable lesson about life. One - Brittany needs to lean how to grow up, the other - Dakota - needs how to learn to have fun. The two are forced to tolerate each other in order to appease the mother. However, in the process of hating each other, they learn a lesion in family friendship and that people are not what they seem to be on the outside.

That's the warm fuzzy! Really nice heart - it does get a little slow in parts, but the chemistry of little Dakota with everyone on screen is amazing. You can't help not liking her even after she plays this temperamental little brat.

As far as the theatrical experience, a good film for the teens and young adults but it is not really for the really young or middle aged crowd - it does have a syrupy side that may give some a tooth ache. This would be a great DVD to have for the family. Let me know what you think. (11-12-03)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Everything In One Movie!
This movie was great! It had a little bit of everything in it!!! It had romance, comedy, drama, and a life lesson in it. I am 13 and watched it with my 39 year old mom and we both loved it! It is the best movie EVER. My dad didn't like it, but he doesn't like chick flicks! LOL! <br /> THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Uptown Girls
Uptown Girls DVD ~ Brittany Murphy is a sweet, innocent and funny comedy. It won't win any oscar statues for its dialogue. But I liked it still...

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow ~ totally different from what I expected
Here you will find a nine year old Ray helping her 20 something nanny Molly find her way. Ray is a nine year older who has everything a little girl could have want and most anything money can buy. But, she has a mother who doesn't have time for her and a father who is deathly ill. Molly gives Ray that one thing she's looking for LOVE and UNDERSTANDING. She also teaches Ray to be a KID that she should be. Ray helps Molly come to grips with some issues she's been fighting since the death of her father who was a great musician. The two were an awesome pair and meant to cross paths.

This movie will make you laugh, cry and more! Very refreshing movie and a must have. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Too kool!
This movie was an indie release (I think), but it's awesome! The drama & action are like nothing I had seen before. It's about teens in New Jersey stealing cars for joyrides, then selling them to Chop Shops, or just keeping them. Jason Petty's (Sharron Corley) character is the most dramatic, because his friends steal cars, but he doesn't want to get into that. He just wants to be friends with them, no crimes involved. This also brings up the subject of race; white cops are always out to get the inner-city youth (who are of-course, black) of New Jersey. If you want a powerful action/crime-drama flick, or if you're one of those in da hood, ghetto flick people, buy this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh...Could have been better...
No, this movie is not "da dopest car movie evah" or anything like that. I am a huge fan of films about Black-America, being that some of my favorites are Menace, Boyz, Lean on me, and many more. However, Let's be honest, there is nothing that is that great about this movie. It doesn't have much of a plot that will really hold you down and make you want to watch, and the acting is, average at best. I will say though that the acting of the police officers is horrible.

This movie could have been something much more, had they tried to make you want to watch it for more than what it is, just people stealing cars. I doubt many people will see this film that live outside of New Jersey, but it is an accurate portrayal of life in Newark, so for that I commend it. But if you want to see a great movie, I suggest looking elsewhere. If you are just in the mood to watch cars being stolen and enjoy the action, then this movie might be for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you kidding?
This movie was a total peice of garbage. I lost IQ points watching it. Take your money and buy lottery tickets. You'll get more value for your dollar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ghetto flick with everything you'd want
This movie is one of my favorites ever. I love ghetto movies, and this one has everything you'd want in an action ghetto movie. It is about ghetto teens who steal cars and take them to chop shops for cash or just for joy rides. The main characters are Jason, "Midget", Richie and "Tiny". With Richie being definately the funniest one of the bunch, I wish he had actually had more parts in the movie. His mannerisms will have your stomach hurting you'll be laughing so hard-even when he's not even trying to be funny. Midget is the biggest car thief of the crew, and Jason is his best friend, who starts out not really being a car thief himself, just a tag-along. But he gets increasingly more and more involved with his buddies' hijinks, leading him to some time in Juvenile hall. There is also an unbelievably hysterical scene where Richie, jason and Midget steal a POLICE CAR and take it for a joy ride!! Richie was so unfreakin' belevably hilarious in this scene, even thhough he didn't even have that much talking. Midget also does something with the squad car that I won't give away-you just hav e to watch the movie. Midget was a great character too. He was very funny and had no shame. For some great ghetto entertainment, buy this movie! There is also a maniac cop who messes with Jason alot in the movie because of something Jason witnessed the cop doing.

Pitting kids against grown-ups has always been a reliable source of comedy, and Big Fat Liar indulges the "smart kid vs. dumb adult" fantasy with infectious enthusiasm. In this case it's Frankie Muniz from TV's Malcolm in the Middle, playing a Michigan eighth-grader whose penchant for lying results in parental scorn when he claims that a Hollywood movie mogul (ace character actor Paul Giamatti) has stolen the kid's hastily written English essay and turned it into his upcoming summer blockbuster. The kid only wants to prove his honesty and recruits his girlfriend (spunky TV star Amanda Bynes) to beat the honcho on his Hollywood turf. Elaborate practical jokes and slapstick gags turn this kid stuff (scripted and produced by two former child stars) into an enjoyable send-up of Hollywood absurdity. When combined with Giamatti's mastery of slow-burning megalomania, the show-biz in-jokes and Home Alone-style anarchy make this a harmless diversion for the young and young-at-heart. --Jeff Shannon ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Film For All....
Big Fat Liar is a movie that is highly recommended. Universal has done an excellent job of bringing an amazing cast together to tell a really good story. The movie is about Jason Shepherd (played by Frankie Muniz), who is a compulsive liar and happens to have his short story stolen by Hollywood producer Mary Wolf (played by Paul Giamatti). As a result of the stolen story, Jason must attend summer school. Jason soon sees that Marty is going to be making the story into a movie. In a well conceived plan, Jason and his best friend Kaylee (played by Amanda Bynes) head out to Hollywood to confront Marty. Jason only wanted a simple phone call to his father to show that he was telling the truth. Marty doesn't agree to it and in turn has Jason escorted out by security. A bit upset, Jason decides that payback is a must. Over the course of a weekend Jason and Kaylee have it out with Marty by conducting various retaliations, including making him look like a Smurf. (The other retaliations are also quite hilarious.) Eventually Marty and Jason square off on the rooftop of a movie set and this is where everybody gets to see the kind of person Marty truly is. The film ends on a high note where Jason gets his revenge...and a little bit more. The film is one that anyone can enjoy, and with cameos by Lee Majors, Dustin Diamond and even Jaleel White, laughs are guaranteed. Even the bonus features make this disc a treat. There is a trivia challenge featuring other Universal films, deleted scenes which are pretty good, a behind the scenes feature, an "Are You A Big Fat Liar" quiz, and Amanda Bynes even gets to help you navigate through the menus! Lastly, the two commentaries are a nice add-on. One features the director Shawn Levy with the other one by Frankie Muniz. Overall, I highly recommend this film. Frankie and Amanda make an excellent team, and in picking up this film you are guaranteed to have some big fat fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly very good!
At first, my impression on "Big Fat Liar" was that is was nothing more than dumb, Nickelodeon kid-flick; but then I saw it. I was very surprised by how it was very funny and very entertaining. I'm a big Universal Studios fan, and this movie had A LOT of Universal stuff in it, including the imfamous backlot tour and the prop shop.

The story is very famlish, never the less, clever. Jason Shepard (TV's Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz) is a liar, straight off the bat. He lies constainly about everything, espeacialy with the whole homework excuse "My dog ate it" or "My dad is in the hospital (sniff)". But this time, his assignment was stolen...for real. While trying to get to class, he is acidentally run over (don't worry, parents. The scene is put on a cartoonish note) by a big-shot movie producer, Marty Wolf (Paul Giamatti), who has been known to be a huge jerk to people. Marty offers Jason a ride to school. While the trip, Jason tell Marty about his paper homework due, title "Big Fat Liar", a story about a compulsive liar, who gets bigger each time he lies. While being dropped off, Jason forgets his paper and Marty takes it. A few months later, Jason and his best friend, Kaylee (Nickelodeon's Amanda Byrnes) go to the movies and see a trailer for a movie called "Big Fat Liar", which immediately makes Jason furious. While Jason's parents are gone on vacation fo the summer, Jason and Kaylee take a trip to Los Angeles to find Wolf and get down to business. Along the way, they befriend a actor-turned-limo driver, named Frank (Donald Adeosun Faison) and Marty's partner at the studio, Monty Kirkham (Amanda Detmer). While Jason and Kaylee find shelter at Universal Studio's Prop shop, Jason Persues in finding Marty and getting either revenge or an appology. During a rude encounter with Marty, Jason decides Vengence...all the way. He and Kaylee form together all the people Wolf has been mean to and plot a payback to ge Marty out of Business, for good.

One thing I liked about this movie was how it took place at Universal Studios Hollywood 75% of the time, aside from the obious (Monty, in one scene, is walking and talking on her cell phone in front of the Bates Motel House) there is the scene in the prop shop, were the kids shack up, where pieces of recent Universal films, such as "The Grinch", are left laying around, along with the DeLorean from "Back to the Future" shown everywhere and the constant showing of the Universal Backlot Tour trams driving by (I love how in one scene, Jason and Kaylee leap off a tram to see something: keep in mind that you could never do that in real life!). BIG FAT LIAR is a great family film, but better for kids. And it's the thing Universal fans, like me, been waiting for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Underestimate this Movie!
Okay, I'll admit that before I watched this movie, I thought it was going to be completely stupid and idiotic. Then I watched it and I thought hey this is pretty okay! Most people (especially adults) see a preview for a movie like this and they just say 'ugh, more stupid movies.' But despite the reputations of the main characters, this is pretty good. It's hilarious, don't get me wrong, but this movie really shows the determination of a teenage boy trying to follow his dreams.

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie isn't a big fat liar, its halarious
This movie is my I-am-not-feeling-well-get-me-out-of-school-movie when I am feeling bad I pop out my VCR and watch it almost everytime because it makes me feel good and get me back on my feet. Good movie! Paul(Wolf)has the face of a bad guy so he fit in this movie perfectly. Nice job by the actors and a nice story

Good Job Universal!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Clean Fun
Frankie Muniz does an excellent job making himself look like a kid who has told "one too many" lies, and now suffers "cry wolf" syndrome.

After Jason Shepherd notices a Hollywood director (he had an accident with) has stolen his English paper and turned it into a successful movie script, he (played by Muniz) sets out on a hilarious adventure to get credit for his work. The best part about the movie is I truly believe something like this has probably happened before...only the person with the stolen screenplay probably did not have the brain power of Muniz and Bynes!

The movie is good clean fun for the whole family. Amanda Bynes knows how to play to the camera, as does just about everyone involved with this movie. Paul Giamatti's "Hungry Like The Wolf Dance" as a blue-colored moron was one of the funniest scenes in a PG movie in a while.

Buy it, watch it, laugh...

3-0 out of 5 stars Actors strong effort can't save film from its bad script.
Never 2 Big or "Butter" as it is also known had a lot going for it. A strong cast great production values and an interesting premise. It had the potential to be a great movie about the dark side of the music business. The entire cast gives strong performances, Especially Ernie Hudson as the evil record mogul. I only wish Salli Richardson and Nia Long had gotten more screen time- both were excellent in their brief roles. Shemar Moore is quite good in his first feature film role about a record exec who gets mixed up in the shady dealings and is forced to go on the run after his sister is murdered and he's next to be targeted by the record mogul's hitmen well played by Tony Todd and Tiny "Zeus" Lister. With all these elements in place you'd expect this "Butter" to be sweet. Unfortunately this movie quickly turns to a big piece of government cheese. The film looks great; the cast and producers do their best, but they can't over come "Butter's" Margarine, Always 2 shallow, poorly written script which devolves into really bad a shoot em' up urban action movie. The story has entire chunks missing from it and these major details that the producers thought were minor would have helped flesh out the story better. Unfortunately, those portions of the film were left on the cutting room floor and the audience is supposed to assume certain things happened off screen while the hero moves on to the next scene. Big Mistake. Also, For a film about the music business, there wasn't very much music in this film. Strange. The story is a character driven one and with portions of it missing the whole film suffers. The character relationships to one another are not well defined-I wasn't really given a chance to get to know any of the characters or their motivations. In order for a character driven story to work, there must be character development so the audience can be shown what is going to happen and why it's going to happen. Without the explanation of the details, I was confused for most of the film. The way the film is edited it seems people do things get shot and die; the hero wins and the credits roll. I would have like to known why things were happening. Like the music business it's based on this movie looks flashy on the surface, but has nothing really interesting going on underneath it. I wanted to like this movie, but it doesn't feel complete. At the end of the movie Shemar Moore's character says "Butter, Baby" But the movie feels like Parkay.

4-0 out of 5 stars To hot to handle
Shemar was excellent in this movie,he really showed the viewers that he's not just another pretty face. Although I wish that him and Nia long got more romantically involved in the film. (He also looked especially good when he got out of the shower). God bless America.

2-0 out of 5 stars Whack!
Shemar Moore is georgeous and Nia Long is a gifted actress but this movie didn't do anything for me. It was wasted talent for both actor and actress.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Ratings on "Never 2 Big (Butter)"
I loved this movie. Nia Long is one of my favorite actresses and Shemar Moore is one of my favorite actors. The movie had a good plot and it didn't have a lot of violence in it. We need to have more black movies like "Butter".

4-0 out of 5 stars Action Packed With Terrific Actors
After reading the other Amazon reviews on this movie I seriously considered cancelling my order. I'm glad I didn't. Although the plot contained some implausible moments & Shemar Moore was out of his acting depth in one crying scene, I really enjoyed this movie from beginning to end and I am not sorry I ordered it. The movie is so good I would like to lend it to friends...but Shemar is SO FINE in it that I'd probably never get it back!!! Thanks, Amazon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny and pleasing in every way
talk about a film that really made me laugh, i picked up a used copy since the price was pretty cheap, Not even hearing of the movie beforehand . I took the dvd home and watched it and lemme just say this film is hilarious. There are quite a few things goin on at once , but they go well together that build up to some funny parts. Even during some so called serious scenes i couldnt help but laugh.. i enjoyed this movie and would reccomend it to anybody, DIcallo is so original with this film it doesnt come close to feeling like any film i saw before, he truly added his own flair to it, definately up there as one of my favorite comedies

5-0 out of 5 stars The best film about NEW YORK CITY since Do The Right Thing..
Tom DiCillo, one of America's most innovative and subtle filmmakers, brings his wry humor, offhanded intelligence, and buoyant compassion to this story of a young Puerto Rican girl who wants to kill her father, and the cop who lives next door.

Intellectually, the film explores the uses of art -- those who use it to exploit and titillate versus those who use it to investigate and heal -- while emotionally the movie explores trauma in a madcap way that is as funny as it is disturbing. There is an oddness to this film that is a mark of a true artist -- we are witnessing an original and difficult-to-assimilate voice here, grappling with profound questions in a way we are not used to. There's no grandiose narcissism here, announcing its brilliance and importance at every turn -- only the mind's and heart's turnings of that rarity in film -- a director who is unconcerned with fame, but deeply concerned with morality and truth.

The film is epic but intimate, deeply sad and profoundly celebratory. The reason it wasn't released, and the reason that shallow thinkers find the movie unsuccessful, is that it does what Wallace Stevens says poetry should do: it "almost resists the intelligence successfully."

2-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Hiassen Take Control of Your Movie Scripts!
It is amazing that the previous reviwers seem not to realise that this movie is about as far from Mr. Hiassen's novel as Pluto is from Earth. Please read the book and skip the movie. The book is an hilarious, hysterical send -up of the bass fishing industry and all the(in the book) eccentric and dangerous people who inhabit it.

In the VHS the closest we get to fishing is looking into the water; furthermore, Hiassen can never be faifthfully translated to the screen; there is too much complexity, irony, and subtletyto bring it off.

One reviewer mentioned the screenplayhad recieved n award. Only in Hollywood, as the cliche goes. I wonder what Hiassen thought when he heard that this "screenplay" which is technically a screenplay detached from the book completely, and therefore to be correct should not have used the titleof the book at all.

Two more extremely aggravating points in this movie. The two guys dreaming up a screenplay was funny at first, but it really got tedious after the third vignette.

Mr. North, the sartorially splindid detective makes a good point at the end, a very intriguing point, which I will not divulge, which indicates more than meets the eye in the killing of two creeps, emphasized by worried looks from the young lady.

This was left handging; very unsatisfactory. Perhaps Mr. North could not let a last homage to Law and Order pass without this horrid movie ending.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't you dare
Don't watch this movie.

This is the worst movie w/such quality actors I've ever seen. Steve Busceni is so under utilized its a joke. Then the parts he's in the movie, they make him act gay. I mean homosexual gay.

Absolutely horrible.

After you see the first "action" sequence at the movie version of McDonalds, you will wish you never started the movie (it's clear right from the beginning).

There is no drama, character developement is weak at best, other then the super. The two aspiring movie writers should have just been cut out of the whole movie, they played no major part in the story, they were not funny, and they wore the same clothes every day!!!!!

Elizabeth Hurley, Dennis Leary, and Steve Busceni read the script, sounded good, and the director and producer screwed the whole thing up.

DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.

You'll be sorry, you've been warned.

3-0 out of 5 stars Leary is at the top of his game
Denis Leary(Judgment Night, Final) makes Pluto's character come to life with spazazz. Elizabeth Hurley(Bedazzled2000, The Weight Of Water) is a godess on screen as she does the chiropracter quite well and the little love scenes with her and Leary were nice but I wanted to see more of her. Donald Faison(Tv's Scrubs, Can't Hardly Wait) and that other guy, forgot his name, as they try to figure out the name of their movie and write it at the same time. They are hilarious. "as a cop have you ever seen a guy being penetrated with throwing darts in the eyeball and chin?". Luis Guzman(Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia), Melonie Diaz, Chris Noth(Tv's Law and Order, Tv's Bad Apple), and Steve Buscemi(Resevoir Dogs, Ghost World) also star. It doesnt balance itself out a bit and some of the scenes are better left out then in but the outcome and the end is great. I also liked the bit on TV when they say the redheaded kid is writing, directing and starring in his own movie ... Read more

Man, this movie is the bomb!!! When I first watched this DVD movie, I started to laugh my bum off! If you love comedy, then comp this movie about a high school senior Greg Reed who daydreams all day long. I gave it 5 stars due to its taste of comedy and the plot of this movie.

Maaaan, this movie had me hurting almost the whole time. It brought back many of my high school memories as a young teen making decisions and having dreams. A true comedy indeed. Pick this one up definately.

Not to mention, its still not old after the fifth billion time. ... Read more
