4-0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly good film.
Whoever reviewed this for amazon.com obviously didn't look too hard when researching his first couple lines. This did NOT in fact receive a "nearly unanimous" beating from critics. It was mixed, and according to rottentomatoes.com, it had more positive reviews than negative (with a 58% rotten rating, just 2% shy of being fresh).

As for the movie itself, I love it. I was surprised to love it because I've never been a huge fan of comedies, but I thought it was sweet and funny. There were moments that were just amazing in the movie.

Elisha Cuthbert is perfect and Hirsch does a great job as well. I also want to reiterate this isn't normally my type of movie (my 3 favorite movies are Usual Suspects/Shawshank/Almost Famous), so the fact that I love it so much is quite surprising even to me.

I'd give it 4.5/5 but since it has to be 4 or 5, i'll say 4, mainly because the cover of the unrated dvd (and the rated dvd) look absolutely terrible (change the cover before it comes out!!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Girl Next Door...Not Your Average Movie Next Door...
Remember when you saw the first "American Pie?" It was funny, it was crude, and it was also sweet. The characters were well written and you genuinely cared about them. The same can be said for "The Girl Next Door." A new sexy comedy from Luke Greenfield whose previous films include "The Animal." In the girl next door we are once again thrust into the high school hell. Douche bag jocks, snotty girls, and geeks are all accounted for, and of course the geeks shall inherit the earth. The title character Danielle, (played perfectly by the gorgeous Elisha Cuthbert "24", "Old School") moves next to uber-student, presidential hopeful Matthew (Emile Kidman, previously in "The Emperor's Club, The Secret Life of Altar Boys.) And naturally his world is turned upside down. Now Matthew is living his life, and doing things he would have never dreamed of, from sneaking into his principals pool, to jogging naked. Danielle has a secret though, she's not on hiatus from college, and she's in-town because she's hiding from her last career...PORN!! So she's hot, the movie is funny, and she's an ex-porn star, is there any reason not to see it? The Girl Next Door is much more than a 21st century teen sex comedy, its well written, smart, and has genuinely great performances. Matthew is a character you want to see succeed, you want him to get the girl because a.) She is ungodly hot, but more because b.) He might just deserve her, and The Girl Next Door also deserves a look.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
I saw this movie by accident. The movie that my friends and I wanted to see was sold out, and we decided to sit in on this one, mainly because Elisha Cuthbert is SMOKING!

Anyway, needless to say I didn't expect much of this movie. And my was I quite pleasantly surprised. I was amazed by the performances of Emile Hirsch and of Elisha Cuthbert, and of the ensembles as well. Danielle's "pimp" was quite a well-played character, and I must give the actor his due (though I can't bring his name to mind right now).

This movie is a wonderful blend of heart, humor, fantasy (please, who wouldn't want Elisha Cuthbert to move in next door), and downright SEX APPEAL.

The movie keeps you enticed at all times watching the relationship between the leads develop, all the way to the VERY surprising and rewarding ending. After this having been our begrudged fall-back, my friends and I walked out of the theater, and all we could say was, "Wow". None of us could find more eloquent words to describe the movie. Throughout the entire 20 minute drive from the theater, no words came to mind.

This movie is well worth buying. You should probably get the soundtrack too, since it is some sweet music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Disapointed
I can only assume it was marketing that screwed things up for this film. For one, the title suggested to me when I first heard about it, another one of those teen flicks like "she's all that". I brushed it aside until one night I managed to view it. I was in awe of this film! Not to mention the music arangement. I loved it.. To me it was like a beautiful rendition of Risky Business and I pushed it on all my friends like a petty dope dealer to see this flick. I checked the theatres and found that after only ONE month from release, it was showing at the dollar theatre?! It's a classic!? I hope someone lost their job because of this. I will definitely buy this DVD and you should too. Nuf said...

3-0 out of 5 stars Best Worst Movie Ever!
This movie is so bad, so stupid, that it's great. Where to start? Well, to begin with the acting. No one ever expects a movie headlined by Stallone and Russell to be a groundbreaking film. Nevertheless, their over the top cheesiness (especially Russell's) lends the film a sort of idiotic charm. Stallone's inane delivery of his lines will keep you captivated. Jack Palance even seems to up the cheese factor in his performance. Teri Hatcher is a highlight of the movie, playing Stallone's spunky sister. She plays the part of damsel in distress, but is also very clever and strong willed. (Who knew there would be a role-model for feminists in a film like this? I kid, I kid) The story is pretty cookie-cutter for an '80s action buddy film. You could almost transplant Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte into this film and it would just about have the same effect.

So, with a mediocre script and subpar acting, Tango & Cash could very well be a train wreck of a film (like any Seagal or Van Damme flick). It avoids this though, by being so tongue-in-cheek. Whether or not this is intentional can be debated. I only know that I can't help but watch this film every time it comes on!

So if you're looking for big, dumb fun, this is the flick for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars I miss the 80's
I bought this dvd for christmas and watched it for the first time in a while. Kurt Russell steals the show from his partner and if this movie starred anybody else, then it would have came out a lot worse than it did. Russeell is Gabe Cash and Stallone is Ray Tango, the two toughest and hardest cops in the city. They have done so much damage to the crime syndicate's income that Yves Perret(a brilliant Jack Palance)has to take matters into his own hand and get the duo off the streets. They get set up and end up in a maximum security prison only to discover that if they don't escape, their is no hope for survival. This movie really owes a debt of gratitude to Harold Faltermeyer, who uses all kinds of COOL beats in his score throughout the film and keeps the viewer interested. This movie could have been longer, but I won't complain considering the action films that are being made these days are really stupid!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stallone & Rusell - an explosive combination
I must say I'm a big fan of detective movies, and '80 were great time for that kind of films (action comedies, adventures...). We already had LETHAL WEAPON in that time, but this film really pushed the limits. Critics often say that this is a B-movie, but that is what they think. For me, this is one of the best Stallone's movies and he and Rusell are really good together as two heavy cops alway aguing and having a lot of troubles with Jack Palance, leader of some terrorist organization who send them to prison where they will meet their doom. Of course, they will win and the rest is to you to be seen. Don't listen the others who didn't like it - give your own oppinion (possitive, I hope).

4-0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun!
I have to agree with the majority of reviews posted so far regarding this flick. I saw it when it came out in theatres (with my dad; I was just a little kid) but this movie is so cheesy that it's laughable (in a good way) and a lot of fun to watch at the same time. Very adrenaline rushing, action pact destruction and pyrotechnics best define this movie as Stallone and Russle play two cops from the East and West side who cost the local drug lord big bucks by busting all of his drug deals, so he has them framed and sent to prison. They escape of course in order to clear their names and seek retribution. You could probobly find it on VHS for a few bucks at the local pawn shop.....just don't expect Shakespeare. Appriciate it for what it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Plenty of Action!!
Lots of action for gals (like me!), watchin Sly and Kurt's cute buns and hot bods running through this movie- also Terri Hatcher is great for the guys to see, she can act but not dance ha ha- lots of one-liner wisecracks and great second performances- Jack Palance as a hilarious chief villain, Geoffrey Lewis (who, incidentally, didn't get listed in the credits!)Clint Howard and more! As fine of a plot as one expects for an action flick, come on, its a MOVIE!! and a mighty FUN one, at that! Two L.A. cops, rivalling for headlines & high total of drug busts, and the bad guys that try to take them out! Not to mention lots of zany characters along the way- WHY can't hollywood make a Clive Cussler Novel like this? Funny, witty, lots of action, just like its written! as the Aussie villain puts it, "Balls to plan A!!" as a "B" movie, this one gets MY vote!! Hope you have fun watching it!:) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.....But
This seemed like a sure-fire hit, and it could have been, except for two things:

Rourke's makeup and costumes are almost laughable. The stupid mustache, the big, floppy hat, and ten layers of clothes in the hot summer plains are ridiculous! The makeup and costume guys should be selling used cars.

Second, the final scene was ludicrously short, bloodless, and unbelievable, especially given the bloody action that proceeded it. Someone please explain to the man who directed this film about the velocity and deadliness of small handguns.

Still, it's worth watching just for Rourke and Mulroney. Rourke is THE quintessential bad guy, and he plays it to the hilt, here. Muldoney is always good, no matter what role he plays. The supporting cast is great, too, so it's not a complete wash-out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best dam western ever
Mickey Rourke is the best I've ever seen him in this film. He is cruel and ruthless to the core. He makes Clint Eastwoods noname caracter seem rather friendly. If you are a fan of violent westerns with a heartless main character this is the one for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars The last outlaw
This is the best damn western ever! I swear the plot is one that will keep you guessing and intrigue you. The outline:
A band of bank robbers pull off a heist not exactly as planned. The outlaws quickly blame their leader and shoot him believing this to be his demise. Yet he awakes in the hands of the very posse hunting him down and strikes a deal with them, help hunt his former gang down.
Slowly he picks off the members one by one until what used to be a "lieutenant" kills him with a very good cliche. Over all I give this all 5 stars, it deserves it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Western
This is a damn good movie. The story's awesome and Rourke's character is a badass. It drags in some spots, but overall this is probably the coolest western since TOMBSTONE. The stylized direction by Geoff Murphy(YOUNG GUNS 2) is real effective. Check this one out.

2-0 out of 5 stars Geoff Murphy's The Last Outlaw
An interesting idea is put through the Western ringer and comes out soaked in blood. A band of bank robbers barely escape after a muddled attempt. They kill their psychotic leader, and continue on. The leader lives, and joins the very posse hunting down the robbers. He takes his bloody revenge on his old gang one by one, until just his former second in command is left.

What a great idea. Reading the back of the video box, I thought this would really play with your mind. Then I watched the movie...

Mickey Rourke, thanks to his facial hair scheme and boxer's eyes, looks like an Old West version of Fu Manchu. His southern accent is constantly dubbed in, since he mutters through this more than Marlon Brando in "The Godfather." Rourke plays the robbery gang's leader left for dead as a psychotic. It takes the rest of the posse forever to discover this fact as he gets most of them killed. There are no smart scenes where the posse does not know he is a robber, like I thought there might be. Instead, after killing the marshall and the bank president, he is made head of the posse, since the other posse members are too stupid to see his murderous ways.

Dermot Mulroney, who has never been good in a film, is good here. He plays the second in command a little to sensitively, but he is a likeable hero. Ted Levine is also good as a shoot now, ask later moron who is with the gang.

The robbers are nothing more than stereotypes. Mulroney is the good guy. Levine is dumb. John C. McGinley is the coward. Keith David, because he is black, practices voodoo and is convinced Rourke is a ghost. Steve Buscemi is the dreamer, who is talking about his little home on the beach in Mexico he hopes to have one day right before having his head blown off by Rourke. Loomis (the character's name) is the injured guy they will eventually sacrifice. Rourke is psychotic just because. The posse's marshall is a he-man who is killed way too early. The bank president is nerdy and bespectacled, and also killed in an outlandish way.

The constant blood and shootings are exhausting. The whole film is just a bunch of guys riding around in the desert getting shot. The opening bank robbery, reminiscent of "The Wild Bunch," is handled well enough, but screenwriter Eric Red never gives us any characters, just warm bodies full of blood. Why does this robbery go wrong after 29 went right? Why does Rourke pick this robbery to go mental and get "killed" by his own men? How did the posse know the bank was going to be robbed? After the opening credits, you feel like you just walked into the middle of the film, not the beginning. These professional bank robbers and cold blooded posse members also spend most of the film fighting amongst themselves, and bickering in a way that made me think of my son's daycare class.

The final mistake here is having Mulroney narrate the film. Since Eric Red is no Billy Wilder, Mulroney obviously lives through the film, meaning he probably defeats Rourke in the finale. I sat through 90 minutes of bloodshed to witness a showdown that I had already figured out in the first ten minutes.

While not an utter failure, "The Last Outlaw" does not have enough going for it to be recommended.

This was rated (R) for physical violence, strong gun violence, strong gore, strong profanity, and sexual references. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
My family and i have enjoyed Richie rich's x-mas wish since it came out. It is a great holiday experience for the whole entire family. And David Gallagher and Michelle Tractenberg couldnt have been better. I enjoyed this movie and hope other have or will enjoy it too!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A modern take on "Its a Wonderfull Life"...
Though not anywhere near as good or as affective.

The story is a little different, but much the same. Richie Rich wishes that he was never born and it comes true, not by an angel though, but by a wish machine. And then realizes how wonderfull life reall is... Also things that make this movie not so good is the fact that it has cheezy dialogue(even for a G rating, they could have got better dialogue),bad effects, and a mediocre take on "Its a Wonderfull Life" chances are children will like this playfull romp. If they can't sit through and appreciate "Its a wonderfull Life" maybe they'll appreciate this, even if you can't.

God Bless ~Amy

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Make Time For This.
In December, I am a pushover for movies that have something to do with Christmas. I am sad to say that this was almost a complete waste of time. The plot is to old, and the story is quite thin. The ending does not even carry much weight. The only thing that saves this from being a complete disaster is that there are some comical moments, as well as some interesting interaction amongst the characters. Don't cut into your Christmas Preperation time for this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As The Last, but good
The last Richie Rich topped this one, but this one is pretty good. David Gallagher was probably as good as a replacement you could have gotten for Macullay Culkin. This movie has great actors that added major points like David, Jake Richardson and Michelle Tractenberg. Its a good kids holiday movie.
