Absolutely GREAT for SNL fans and collectors!
This is one of my favorite things to watch over and over again that i never get sick of.

Before i watched this, i was all into the 90's stuff like Adam Sandler and Norm MacDonald (which is still very good!), and i always thought "The 70's stuff is so old, and the humor was so much different back then. i hate it". But after i watched this, i absolutely fell in love with the first 5 years! I've always loved Chevy Chase and Steve Martin, but this is truly some of their funniest work. Gilda Radner is such a sweetheart. It was cool when Molly Shannon and Cheri Oteri gave her a tribute, but i wish it would of been longer. Belushi is a side spliter too.

If you are an SNL fan of ANY era of the show, you'll want to pick this up! A must-have for your dvd collection.

I Will Feed Your Fingertips to the Wolverines...
This disc boasts an impressive collection of highlights from the SNL archives, joined together by (for once) some actually funny links. Tom Hanks is the foil of a tried-and-true SNL convention--the host interrupted by audience members--that brings out the comedic best in Jon Lovitz and Christopher Walken. (By the way, if you missed this year's Walken-hosted show, be sure to catch it in rerun. It was the best of the season so far.) The show even contains some sentimental tributes to departed performers. The beauty of these is that they are all done tastefully and they are, if you are old enough to appreciate them, quite moving. The live musical performances are quite good, particularly Elvis Costello backed by the quite intent Beastie Boys. So good, in fact, that by the time this lengthy (but never long) show ends, you might not even realize that the DVD does not include the musical highlight segments that were part of the original telecast. Too bad, otherwise this would be a five-star disc. There is one segment included in the program that did not make it to air--an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the creation of a show. This may not be a disc you'll watch often, but it's an excellent sampling of what is now--gasp!--a TV institution. And that's not a put-down.

Don't Let The Beginning Throw You Off....
Don't let the beginning throw you off. Yeah, it might want to make you shoot yourself, but trust me, it gets 110% better!!! Just skip the first chapter and everything will be A-okay!

The way it works for the most part is that for every half decade or so they have a segment of SNL clips. Of course, some chapters are better then others, because from what I know, NBC was about to cancel the show in the 80's, it got so bad, but the show is chock full of classics, such as the Adam Sandler Songs, the Eddie Murphy classics (like "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood"), and who could forget all those commercials? Some of the commercials shown are "Schmitt's Gay", "Cluckin' Chicken", and "Oops, I Crapped My Pants". There's even a "Behind the Scenes" roll which is awesome!!! Oh, I could ramble on about how great this DVD is all day!

So, if you're a dedicated SNL fan, YOU JUST CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS DVD!!!! It's worth every cent!

Stop releasing the Best of dvd's
The studio needs to stop releasing the best of SNL and give us what we want complete seasons. Stop teasing us with this crap Best of SNL and give us the hole freaking season, so we can truely enjoy the show.

How can people say that mad tvs better.
Some do. How? I don't know. But all I know is that this is hilarious. The only reason that I didn't give it all 5 stars is because of all the profanity. The Best of Farley
SNL's Chris Farley and David Spade take their act on the road in the pleasing comedy "Tommy Boy". After seven years of college parties, sweet-natured goofball Tommy Callahan (Farley) returns to take his place along side his father (Brian Dennehy) at Callahan Auto Parts. When his father dies, Tommy and his unwilling co-worker (Spade) hit the road to save the family business. "Tommy Boy" is a very funny and enjoyable road comedy that remains the late comedian's finest and most successful film. The storyline is simple and quite predictable. Chris Farley and David Spade have great comic chemistry and deliver some wildly entertaining antics and gut-busting laughs. The cast also includes Rob Lowe, Bo Derek and Dan Aykroyd. The film is presented in its 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen format. The DVD contains a colorful video transfer and a simple 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Its only special feature is the film's original fullscreen theatrical trailer. Despite the poor presentation and the lack of extras, "Tommy Boy" is a worthy addition to any SNL fan and earns a "C+".

Tommy Callahan is a party animal that has just graduated from college, by passing his last class with a D+. Tommy has spent the last seven years at college before returning home to Sandusky, OH to work in his father's auto parts manufacturing plant. Upon returning home, he learns that his widower father is to re-marry and she has a son who will be Tommy's new brother. On the day of the wedding, Big Tom, Tommy's father, dies of a heart attack. Tommy must now learn to run the company and go on this father's sales trip to sell the company's new brake pads. He is paired with Richard,
Big Tom's assistant, for this sales trip. If the two don't succeed in selling enough brake pads, the company will be forced to sell out to a competitor and 300 jobs will be lost. Tommy has a lot at stake if he fails. Tommy's sales pitches initially don't result in any sales until he learns that selling is really about confidence and being able to sell himself. Unbeknown to Tommy and Richard, Beverly and Paul, Tommy's new stepmother and stepbrother, are con artists and are trying to sabotage Tommy's efforts to save the company. Beverly and Paul are really married to each other and stand to inherent the family fortune if the company is sold. Eventually, Tommy and Richard are able to foil Beverly and Paul's plot. Tommy is hailed as a hero for saving the plant and the jobs of its 300 workers.
I give Tommy Boy five stars out of five. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. Chris Farley is a wonderful physical actor and uses his size to his advantage. When paired with David Spade, the two are a perfect comic couple. David has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor that he unleashes on Farley. Tommy Boy is funny on several different levels that require several viewings to fully appreciate. The sound track is great and has lots of songs that you can sing along with, if you know the words. Tommy saves the company and gets the girl. It doesn't get much better than this.

High Five, here's another one!
Amongst the classics of 90's comedy arrive Wayne's World, P.C.U., Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore...and of course, Tommy Boy. Where would the world of comedy be, without this movie? Well, it'd be a notch down as far as range goes, but other than that, it'd just be missing a great film.

Coming home, fresh, actually well done, from college, Tommy Callahan arrives to his hometown to find everything...the same. His father owns the big ol' auto business and everyone's great, until his father dies. With the town leaping on Tommy's back for safety of their jobs, he must take it to the streets and save the business and become the salesman he was meant to be. This would be a great drama film, but it's a Farley comedy, so expect one wild ride.

The film takes a dive into some of the greatest and most memorable scenarios. From Tommy slamming into doors, burning models, and ruinings cars to the memorable lines and bickering between he and fellow co-star, David Spade. The film also has a fine supporting cast, from Dan Ackroyd, Brian Dennehy, and even Rob Lowe as the antagonist.

I could sit here and point out my favorite scenes, but what good does that do. Anyone knows any impersonation or recreation cannot even equal the amount of good fortune one will have when watching the film, for the first time. All I can say is, this is a fine film. This is comedy when it was still important to introduce bold characters, great storyline, and even some drama to tie in emotional aspects. If it were up to me, this film would be sitting on AFI's shelves. But, it's not...so take my word.

An entertaining comedy fantasy.
When Aliens (Dan Aykroyd & Jane Curtin) from another World come to Earth to be Studying and Conquest the Planet but when thier Spacecraft is being gun-down by Military Aircrafts. Then they get stuck on Earth and the Female Alien is Pregnant. Then they discover that-they might be stuck on Earth for a very long time. Once they baby daughter is Born, then years to come. The Aliens becoming used to thier new Planet but when a Gouverment Immigration Agency (Micheal McKean & David Spade) are seaching for these unique Extra-Terrestrials.

Directed by Steve Barron (The Adventures of Pinocchio, Electric Dreams, Merlin) is a entertaining, delightful funny fantasy for all ages. Aykroyd & Curtin are fun as the Alien Parents. CONEHEADS: a fun treat for familes, finally!

Funny!!!
Coneheads is one of the best comedies I've ever seen. Buy this movie if you like hilarious entertainment...

Don't bother!
When I was lil I really loved it but now that I'm a bit older I think it's stupid. I only like Coneheads on SNL but the movie itself is really dumb. The storyline just blows it. It does have a huge SNL cast but I just thought it was horrible. Everytime when I see this on TV I want to just switch a channel to a better flick then watching this crap! Only good parts in the movie is watching Chris Farley he's the only one that makes the movie funny the rest of the cast is not funny. If you want to see a better SNL movie stick with the Wayne's World movies there hilarious this movie is just not worth it.

Cute Movie!
After I read negative reviews about this movie and heard people putting it down I was surprised when I watched it that I actually liked it and didn't think it was as bad as they said, sure it's not as funny as the original SNL skits with Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman but it was good on its' ownright and Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin were very good. Though I preferred Laraine Newman as Connie I thought Michelle Burke was pretty good. I taped this movie when it was on a cable and I plan on buying this movie on DVD for my comedy collection. The best of the late Chris Farley
Chris Farley stars as the goofy brother of Al Donnelly (Tim Matheson) who is a candidate for the governor of Washington state. Mike Donelly (Chris Farley) just can't stay out of trouble and he keeps unwillingly getting set up by not so good guys that want to use Mike to make his brother look bad as a candidate for governor. As a matter of fact, Mike gets in so much trouble that Al hires a worker (David Spade) to try and keep him out of trouble.

I've seen "Tommy Boy," "Black Sheep," and "Beverly Hills Ninja," and I have to say without a doubt that "Black Sheep" is my favorite of the three. It has a lot of parts that had me laughing real hard. It's a shame that Chris Farley died and that there won't ever be anymore great comedy movies that he's in. Whether you're one of his fans or not, if you like comedy movies, either watch or rent "Black Sheep." I would buy it if it was me, it's well worth it!

Funny!
I like Saturday Night Live and I like Chris Farley and David Spade who used to be on SNL and though Tommy Boy is my favorite of their movies I liked Black Sheep too and thought it was a really cute movie and it had scenes that were absolutely hilarious especially the scenes when they were out in the rural area. Tim Matheson is in this movie too and I have always liked him, he plays Chris Farley's politician brother and I thought he was great as were Chris Farley and David Spade. I highly recommend this delightful movie to fans of SNL, Chris Farley, David Spade, and Tim Matheson

I certainly laughed!
I must start this review by saying that I love David Spade and
Chris Farley* because they are just HILARIOUS together! This movie is about a man who is trying to make his brother win in the gubetorial election in the state of Washington, but the brother (played by Farley) is such an embarrassment that he is asked to keep down low and campaign in a county where there are forests everywhere with Spade. There are many laughs because of the two actors. I don't think it would be nearly as funny if any other two actors were picked for the parts. Worth a watch! A funny flick!

*it's so sad that he overdosed because he was a comedic legend. 33 is too young. There is a Chris Farley Foundation that educates you about drugs started by his family (chrisfarleyfoundation.org).

There Movie
This is the Best of there two Movies this one is classic entertainment and is Chris Farley at his best wich was great it was a very enjoyable movie.He was the Brother of the guy running for governor and was getting into lots of introuble.

AWESOME!
Chris Farley and David Space are awesome in this movie. Mike Donnelly can't seem to improve his brother Al's campaign for Washington governor at all. He just screws it up. That's where Spade comes in as Steve Dodds. Rural Washington towns are next on the list as Spade and Farley stir up trouble. Rock The Vote in Seattle is awesome too with Farley a little high on the stage.

Christine Ebersole as incumbant Governor Tracy is hillarious as the shrewd evil person she is to do anything dirty to win the campaign for herself.

Two Dreadful Films......Not!
Released in 1991 and 1993, these are probably the two best "Saturday Night Live" - based films ever created. The humor is dry and witty, the acting is splendid and great music (a little "Bohemian Rhapsody", gentlemen?).

"Wayne's World" is about two guys named Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth (the too underrated Dana Carvey) who host their own cable access show in Aurora, Illinois and enjoy rocking out to their favorite tunes. While at a club, Wayne catches a glimpse of the babelicious Cassandra (Tia Carrere - schwing!). Wayne and Cassandra hook up. Soon, a slimy tv executive (played deliciously by Rob Lowe) offer the two headbangers $ 5,000 and their own cable tv show. (Exsqueeze me, a baking powder?). Things seem to be alright. Wayne and Cassandra are in item, he and Garth meet Alice Cooper (we're not worthy, their perrenial line). But things start to go awry. Cassandra and Wayne break up, they blow the show, and Garth and Wayne throw away their friendship. Can the day be saved? Just watch and find out. And be on the look out for cameos by Chris Farley, Donna Dixon, Robert Patrick, Alice Cooper, and a diabollically funny Ed O'Neil as a disturbed (albeit disturbing) donut shop employee.

1993's "Wayne's World 2" makes a valiant effort to recapture the magic from part one, and it succeeds. This one takes place one year after the first film. Wayne is wondering what to do with his life once his show ends. One night, Jim Morrison and a naked Indian come to him in a dream, telling him to invent a concert and book big names. Meanwhile, Cassandra signs a contract with a sleazy record producer (Christopher Walken, devilish as always), and Garth has the hots for Honey Hornee (that's Horn-ay, and she's played by an incredibly hot Kim Basinger). Once again, things soon go askew. None of the acts show up (except for Rip Taylor), and Wayne gets dumped. Once again, can the day be saved? Watch and you'll find out. Also, try and spot appearances by Chris Farley, Aerosmith, Ed O'Neil, Chris Farley, Kevin Pollack, Olivia D'Abo, Charlton Heston, and Drew Barrymore.

These are two comedy classics that have been immortalized with this boxed set. Special features include and commentary and intervies with Myers, Carvey, Lorne Michaels and others involved in the making of the film. Excellent.

This is totally amazingly eccellent! A boxed set of both of the Wayne's World movies. What more could someone who enjoyed the movies wish for?

Who doesn't know the story of Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and his trustworthy sidekick Garth Algar (Dana Carvey)? As hosts of their very own local tv show, they're highly popular with the youngsters and the girls (though neither of them has much experience on that topic).

In the first movie, they're approached by Benjamin, a sleazy TV executive (Rob Lowe), who is intent on exploiting the show "Wayne's World" to make a quick buck. Wayne is forced to deal with various issues, including being fired from his own show, losing his girlfriend Cassandra (The gorgeous Kia Terrere), and losing his best friend Garth. Will he and his group of friends manage to take back their own show and land Cassandra a record deal at the same time?

The second one is about Wayne being visited in a dream by Jim Morrison. Wayne is looking for a goal in his life, and Jim provides him with one: Wayne is to organise WayneStock, a rock festival. Again, Wayne has to deal with numerous issues to fight his way through.

To me, the real charm of the movie is by the countless amounts of famous stars making an appearance in the movie. From Alice Cooper and Aerosmith to Rob Lowe and Christopher Walken, from Tia Carrere to Ed O'Neill, from Chris Farley to Kim Basinger, the movies are packed with celebrities who were all to keen to help Myers out with this project.

Even though the movies will never be a fallback for countless one-liners like (for instance) the Naked Gun series, they still make up for great amusement and a hysterical laugh.

Myers and Carvey manage to make sure the movie doesn't fall apart, though (in my opinion) Carvey is the real talent here. He's pure comedy genius, and sort of makes Myers look like the sidekick.

The only dissappointment is the lack of extra's on the DVD. Come on. No one out there will think 'Widescreen, Dolby Digital, English subtitles, Interactive menus or Scene selection' are "special features" anymore. Those are standard. Interviews are nice, but the real appeal with DVDs as a medium are goodies like Behind-the-scenes and Deleted scenes. It would have been nice to get a bit more for the buck. Still, for the true fan? The combo is a nice buy.

It's Excellent!
Wayne says it best. This film is by far the greatest comedy ever told. It has drama, suspense, laughter, and cheese. The films are golden and it really outshines anything Mike Myers does, even till today.

With rock and roll, the good stuff, taking a big chunk of the film, we follow the life of Wayne and Garth, Wayne primarily, as he goes from bringing his television show to fame, to starting a concert...in Aurora. Everyone wants to stay in Aurora, the City of Lights. But not the antagonists Rob Lowe and Christopher Walken, who, respectively try to bring the beloved Cassandra(Wayne's love interest), away from. With a story clouded in laughs and roars, you really can't fail.

Watching this now, it never really feels dated, and in fact, would love to see a third film. It'd be great to buy the Wayne's World trilogy and I think the time would be fine, still. Either way, and now awake from the dream world I was in, I recommend this DVD set. It's a must buy, it's not like mopping up soak suds and lung butter, it's like buying a totally, amazing, excellent discovery.

Wayne's World
Wayne's World one and two have always been favorites of mine. The plot, even at its saddest point, never gets too serious to bear, and the jokes are always classic and hilarious. I can still remember the first time i saw them, a loong time ago, when my sister brought two movies home for her friends to see. Wayne's World 1 & 2. I saw and loved these movies and since then, I have seen them many many times. Mike Myers is awesome as always, and Dana Carvey is too, so I am planning on getting these DVD's soon. I recommend these movies to anyone who hasn't seen them, and is looking for a good laugh away from the boring redundant comedy of today.

these two movies are great. the interactive menus are sweet too. its like watching the tv guide channel and you can watch like a minute or 2 of i love lucy, or the brady bunch, seriously. the behind the scenes are good too, along with the commentary. these are my favorite mike myer movies. trust me these are funnier than auston powers i swear. dana carvey (garth) is funnier here than master of disguise i swear. these are god rock, punk, heavy metal comedy. kinda reminds me of spinal tap. these movies are hilarious. you got to get this. so uhhhhhhh..........yeah but just remember, BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... 3 1/2 Stars; Could've Been Better
When Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife, he left behind something that nobody could take from him - his legacy. As possibly "Saturday Night Live's" most versatile star, he was a major influence on later, equally great castmembers Will Ferrell and Darrell Hammond (who is the only castmmebrs whose Bill Clinton impersonation matched up to Hartman). As always, when he died, Lorne and company decided it was time to put together a tribute show as they did for Chris Farley. The resulting "The Best Of Phil Hartman" was mixed at best.

The first half is hilarious. Here, he gest to show up his versatillity in such roles as Frank Sinatra ("The Sinatra Group"), Bill Clinton ("Clinton At McDonald's"), Peter Graves ("Discover The World Of Science"), Phil Donahue ("Donahue"), and "Barbara Bush (don't know name of sketch, but features Nancy Reagan (Jan Hooks) trying to take back the White House). Also, there's a great montage of his impressions. He became so well known for playing Bill Clinton, people forget that his repetoire included Ted Kennedy, Andy Griffith, Telly Savalas, Michael Caine and even Jesus. Also, there's his infamous "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" and one, the "Weekend Update' "All Drug Olympics".

But after this, the dvd falters. While "Cooking With The Anal Retentive Chef" "Succinctly Speaking", and the touching closer "Love Is A Dream" are worth viewing, the second montage (don't know what it's about), "On Broadway", "Ann Boleyn" and "Robot Repair" rank among the worst "SNL" skecthes ever.

Is this dvd worth viewing? Yes. But is it perfect? By all means, no. How could it have been better? First, they could've taken out the entire second half (with the eexception of "Anal Retentive Chef", "Succinctly Speaking", and "Love Is A Dream") and replaced it with the "Sinatra Duets" sketch, another Clinton one, and a montage of his voiceovers. I think Phil Hartman deserves a best - of, volume 2.

One of the best of "The Best of" videos so far!
The opening credits for this video say "Saturday Night Live Remembers Phil Hartman." How could anybody NOT remember Phil Hartman? With so many impersonations and characters, I'm sure it was very difficult for the creators of this video to pick out "The Best of Phil Hartman." I would say 30 out of the 36 sketches on this tape are very funny. It's incredibly saddening that Hartman is no longer alive to share more laughs with us. This tape is a great tribute to the times that he was. I dare you fans and new viewers to try not to laugh as you view this truly great tribute to a truly comedic genius.

Should have been better...
I read all the reviews of this, and i found the one extremely negative one and figured it was just some moron that didn't know what he was talking about. After buying this and watching it, i realized that he was way closer to the truth than any of the other reviewers. This dvd contains about 4 funny sketches, tops. I remember phil hartman being way funnier than he is portrayed on this dvd, and i have a theory as to why this one stinks as bad as it does.
-Phil Hartman is an extremely funny and talented actor, but for some reason he was written in as a funny "side guy" in a lot of sketches, and the ones where he is the main character, he is usually doing an impression of someone or it is just plain boring, for whatever reason. Therefore, to see Phil Hartman in his top form, you would be better off buying Adam Sandler's, Mike Myers', or Chris Farley's dvds, because theirs probably have all the sketches in which we remember Phil Hartman being so funny. The only sketches left by the time they got around to making Hartman's dvd were the ones we would have been better off forgetting. The only things worth watching on this dvd are "cooking with the anal retentive chef" and "the all drug olympics," which is about 10 seconds long. I hate to write a review like this because i really loved phil hartman, but it is a shame that i would rather watch the "bad" ones on the will ferrell dvd than the "good" ones on this dvd. Sorry.

Starts Out Good But Falters At The End
For 8 years, Pil Hartman kept America laughing as one of (if not the ) most versatile castmembers on "Saturday Night Live". Judging by his long line of work, it would be hard to find just 20 sketches that would qualify as his best. In 1998, shortly after he was murdered by his wife Brynne, Lorne Michaels and Company came up with "Saturday Night Live: The Best Of Phil Hartman", which was soon released on dvd. The results were okay at best.

The first half is hilarious. "The Sinatra Group" is my favorite, especiially the Sinead O'Connor (Jan Hooks) jokes. Also worth a view are "Clinton At McDonald's" and "Discover The World Of Science With Peter Graves", in which Hartman plays the screen veteran as a bumbling idiot (so gold is long and thin like, say, Kareem Abdul Jabaar?). Best of all, there's a montage of his impressions. So many people watch him for his Bill Clinton that they forget his repitoire ranged from Ted Kennedy to Burt Reynolds to Jesus. After the "All Drug Olympics" sketch, the dvd falters a bit, but enjoys a resurgance of hilarity with "Cooking With The Anal Retentive Chef". But skecthes like "Robot Repair" and "On Broadway With Brenda Krouse" just weren't as good as I expected. The final sketch is "Love Is A Dream", a short film with an ending that will leave you misty - eyed.

Overall, not a bad set, but it could have been a better sketch. For instance, where was the sketch where he's Frank Sinatra and he's recording his "Duets" album and he doesn't like his partners?

Have you clowns even watched this yet??
First off, the 1 star is for the 10 minutes of extras. They are the only material half funny on this entire DVD. I sat in total shock as I watched the first chapter, then the next, and the next. I kept saying, this is going to be halarious, you just wait. It was very painful to watch. For one of the most talented actors to come out of SNL, they picked the absolutely worst episodes to show. The opening segment was the most boring, unfunny scene he's ever done. What were they thinking??I know there are many of you out there right now saying, "hey, he's absolutely right, it sucked!". Maybe that's why it took so long to release his compilation; Maybe all the good episodes are still tied up in his estate litigation, or.. someone maybe couldn't make up their mind on what was funny and what wasn't. The people that put this DVD together should be taken out back and stoned by Phil's true fans. If you want a great example of showcasing a talent, watch Chris Farley's SNL DVD......You'll laugh yer ass off start to finish. All I can say is I wish I could get my money back because this was absolutely terrible!!! I hope I can get $5 for it at my spring garage sale, but I seriously doubt it! Shame on SNL for releasing this goop. Even Will Ferrel's wasn't as polished as Farleys or Meyer's or even Sandlers DVD!! No wonder SNL sucks now, it has run it's course and their compilations get worse and worse. You'll agree, the best ones were the first ones....right?

A Comic Legacy.
Though some may disagree, Chris Farley was a comic genius (if you don't believe me just watch TOMMY BOY). The characters he played were often loud, but rarely offensive and usually hilarious (compare that to the last five or six years of SNL; there is a huge difference). In part, his humoring was so appealing because Chris looked just like a normal guy and he loved making people laugh.

This collection of SNL sketches and skits is a fitting tribute to Farley. The DVD includes "Andrew Giuliani"; "Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker"; "Chippendales"; "Superfans-Jordan"; snippets of "The Chris Farley Show"; a physical comedy montage; and "Lunchlady". There are a few omissions from the Chris Farley repertoire. However, most of the best ones are here. My only complaint is that there should have been more of certain characters (why wasn't there more "Tom Foley" sketches?).

A wonderful DVD that any Chris Farley fan will welcome, and that non-fans can at least watch to appreciate the humor of Chris Farley.

I miss this big guy...
I've found that most people either totally love Chris Farley or, when you bring him up, make a face and say, "I never really thought he was funny." If you are in the first, and don't own this video yet, RUN don't walk to the shopping cart and buy one. When they ran it the first time on TV, it wasn't long after Farley's death, and I was still sad about it. After the sober opening by Tim Meadows, however, I started laughing pretty much non-stop till it was over. His better-known routines are on here, such as Bennet Brower, Matt Foley, and the Chippendale's dancer, which are all hilarious. But there's also quite a few skits that I never saw, and we watched pretty much every week when he was in the cast. My only complaint is that it isn't longer, and some funny skits, they only show snippets of, like him playing Alan Hale, and the skit with Sandler where Michael Keaton was the host and Sandler plays his cranky grandmother whom he has to watch for 20 minutes. (if you want to see the whole skit, which is one of the funniest things I've ever seen them do, then buy the Best of Adam Sandler as well, because it the whole skit, plus some other great Farley stuff not on this tape is on there). The only noticeable (if you're a Farley fan) omission is a skit called "The Relapse Guy" where he plays a guy who goes to rehab then gets wasted again over and over (it's way funnier than it sounds, trust me). I think they thought it was a little too close to home (though they did leave in the Ditka stuff with him faking a heart attack-that kind of made me wince). Every time I see this, several things happen-- I get sad that he wasn't around long enough to make more movies with Spade, or even by himself, because (this sounds corny) he had so much to give. I also get pi$$ed off at him for not taking better care of himself and dying. I also usually laugh so hard I fall off the couch. No matter how bad of a day I had, I can watch almost any of the skits on here and get cheered up instantly. He was a guy who could just say one line that you would think no-one could say and make it funny, and make you fall down laughing just the way he says it. His costars really had a hard time keeping character, which shows even more in the dress rehersal 'blooper' clips they show. Watch David Spade and Christina Appelgate during the Matt FOley thing- they both have to turn away from the camera to hide their faces because they can't keep a straight face, and when he starts in with the "I bet you're asking yourself 'hey Matt, how do we get back on the right track?' " you can see their shoulders shaking they are laughing so hard. Sandler can't keep a straight face when he's doing the "Lunchlady" song with him, either. Come to think of it, I have no clue how anyone on stage with him could ever keep a straight face. If you were bummed out when he died, get ready to get teary (though you'll already have tears running down your face from laughing) when he sings, "so long, farewell" as Matt Foley at the end, sitting on Phil Hartman's lap (I could watch this without tearing up until Hartman was killed, now I can't see the clip without getting choked up). But even if you do get emotional, keep watching, because after the credits they stick on the one thing I'd been hoping for the whole time-a quick clip of Farley as "Sandman" on "Nat X". What a waste- I hope whereever he is he knows how happy he made people during the short time he was around (and how happy he is still making those of us who thought he was funny).

Classic Physical Comedy
In his short tenure on this earth, Chris Farley provided us with some of the funniest moments in "Saturday Night Live" history. Heavily inspired by John Belushi (not just in his comedy but his dangerous lifestyle), he suddenly became the show's most talented physical comedians, bringing the pratfall back to households.

5 years of classic comedy has been put on this dvd. Farley created for himslef a variety of classic charcaters for himself, including Matt Foley (who lives in a van down by the river!!!), Todd O'Connor of "Superfans" and Barney The Chippendale Auditioner. All of these classic characters are here. Also, there's his "exciting" impression of Laurie Davis in the "Focus On Beauty" sketch. There are several montages that just to show how funny he was: one where he's in drag, a montage of his talk show, one showcasing his physical comedy, an impressions montage, and one featuring outtakes from Dress Rehersal.

Overall, very good. My one complaint may seem odd. There's not enough sketches featruing Adam Sandler! I know that the focus is supposed to be on Farley, but he and Adam shared so many great skecthes together, and they obviosuly bought out the best of each other. The ones with him are good, but it would have been better if "Zagat's" and "Gap Girls" (both featured briefly in the "Drag Montage) were on here. But still, it's an excellent dvd.

Strong start... poor finish
I dunno what it is, but I've always enjoyed Chris Farley's "loud-obnoxious-fat-guy-falling-down-and-breaking-stuff" routine that he did in the handful of movies he starred in prior to his untimely demise. Keeping this in mind during my last visit to the local Hollywood video, I decided to check out this collection of SNL sketches that he starred in, just to see if I had a possible "keeper" to place alongside 'Tommy Boy' and 'Beverly Hills Ninja'. As soon as I got home I threw this into the player, pressed 'play', and relaxed to what was hopefully gonna be a good show. Which it was... at first. After gettin' past the way-too-love-fest-y "in memoriam" intro by Tim Meadows (jeez, whatever happened to that guy, anyway?) I found myself yukkin' it up over the opening sketch of the titular star playing then-NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani's (Kevin Nealon) obnoxiously hyper son. After that, he showed his range by playing... an obnoxiously hyper motivational speaker who tries to set a couple kids straight with his bellowing "living in a van down by the river" spiel. Then there's the so-wrong-to-laugh-at-but-I'm-laughing-anyway alternative lifestyle-themed beer commercial with Adam Sandler, followed by the infamous 'Chippendale try-out' with Patrick Swayze... which I consider to be Farley's greatest SNL piece. Oh man, was that sketch a hoot! A very disturbing hoot, but a hoot all the same!

Unfortunately, after this initial volley of sketches and commercial parodies, things really go downhill. Save for his 'quotation-finger'- laden commentary on one Weekend Update segment, I hardly uttered a chuckle the rest of the way. I never did find any of those 'Da Bearsss' sketches all that amusing, and the one they show here with guest star Michael Jordan is no exception. And the string of stammer-laden 'Chris Farley Show' bits with Jeff Daniels, Martin Scorsese, and Paul McCartney were downright tedious. And it didn't help that two of the pieces centered more around Adam Sandler (his retarded 'Lunch Lady Land' tune, and the just-plain-lame 'Herlihy Boy House-Sitting Service' piece), while Farley basically acts as a sideline character for Sandler to play off of. Speakin' of Adam Sandler: his inexplicable success with those lame movies he does is proof positive to me that there is no God. No Supreme Being who truly cares for His creations would have let this unfunny yutz become such a profit-generating force in Hollywood while allowing Chris Farley to shuffle off this mortal coil from a coke overdose...

Needless to say, I'm definitely NOT gonna add this one to my personal video collection. It was hardly worth the rental fee I plopped down for it, let alone what they're askin' for it to own! Guess I'll just hafta settle for another viewing of 'Black Sheep' to get my Farley fix...

He forms his fingers into quotation mark things and says funny stuff on his imperfect things about him. like i'm not that attractive and "i dont wash regularly"its really funny and how come know one says anything about it. Your only cool if you write a review about this skit so every review writer who wrote one your not cool enough to write about chris farley. Empty Headed Mis-fire.
Remember those innocuously awful Disney comedies of the 70's? That's what this mis-fire feels like even though you won't for a moment think it's a Disney film. A struggling group of friends who dream of being rock musicians hold a radio station hostage in order to get their demo-tape played.

It's kind of a Dog Day Afternoon meets Bill and Ted. They have an interesting premise and a cast that tries hard to be energetic and funny but the situations the writers invent quickly become like a bad situation comedy. The characters are all unrealistically dumb and there are very few funny lines. Worse it's all utterly predictable and lacks any kind of sharp satire or edges. It's not without some laughs thanks in large part to Michael McKean and Joe Mantegna but the comedy is often downright desperately unfunny at times. Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler , Michael Richards , Judd Nelson and Chris Farley play one note characters that wear out whatever welcome you are kind enough to give them way before the film is over. And it's one of those films that believes if it was funny the first time it will be funnier the second and third time.

There's a few laughs, but too few to waste your time on.

I'm wanna be a rockstar, but...on my own terms!
Finally I have my other favorite Rock and Roll comedy (the other being Spinal Tap, of course)! This movie is hilarious and depicts its characters, music genre, and attitudes in a hilarious but realistic way. Brendan Frasier, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Sandler are Chaz, Rex, and Pip aka "The Lone Rangers" (you can pluralize that?). Anyway they get fed up with never getting any airtime for their song "Degenerated", so they take the KPPX "Rebel Radio" station hostage with plastic uzis filled with hot sauce. I won't give away the rest but hilarity definitely ensues! The three stars are surrounded by hilarious co-stars like Chris Farley ("improvise"), Michael McKean (You can't smoke in here, babe.), Allen Covert (the guy in every Sandler movie!), Judd Nelson (we're making records), Ernie Hudson (a giant plastic baby bottle?), Joe Mantegna (Ian the Shark), Reg E. Cathey (Marcus with the wah wah pedal and afro!), Amy Locane (What the heck happened to my make-up?!), Nina Siemaszko (I like your hair), David Arquette (yall are like woo-hoo and ...), Michael Richards (I don't even have a home, I have a condo), Harold Ramis (Wrong, Lemmy is God!), Lemmy (Editor of the school magazine), Beavis & Butthead (voice only, ...)and others I may have missed!

The DVD is exceptional: Anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1), Theatrical Trailer, Featurette (made up of clips and fake news coverage), TV Spots, Music Videos for "Born to Raise Hell" by Motorhead (featuring ICE T & Whitfield Crane) and "Feed the Gods" by White Zombie (also performed at a night club in the movie! so Bonus!), 19 Chapter selections, English and French Audio, and English and Spanish subtitles, not to mention a disc with the three AIRHEADS pictured on it! Highly recommended, especially for fans of the cast and pretty much anybody who liked Spinal Tap! Even better than naked pictures of Bea Arthur (I'm just assuming here)!

Clearing something up...
I really enjoyed the review written about Airheads which happens to be one of my favorite movies. But I just wanted to clear something up. In the review it says Sandler (Pip) is the Lone Rangers' bassist and Buscemi (Rex) is the drummer. It's the other way around. Rex plays bass and Pip plays drums. I dunno if someone else already noticed this but I just wanted to point it out anyways.

i still remember the first time i saw this movie, it was a regular boring saturday afternoon, and i had nothing to do so i decided to see if FOX was running a saturday afternoon movie, after all, thats how i saw 'Predator', 'Aliens', and 'Terminator 2' for the first time. anyways, i saw that this movie was called 'Airheads' and i thought to myself "what a stupid title" but then i acknowledged the likes of brendan fraser and adam sandler so then decided to watch it. and im glad that i did. this movie is hella funny! its my favorite comedy ever! and on top of that, its entertaining especially to fans of rock music. adam sandler is at the top of his game in this one. the chemistry between fraser, buscemi, and sandler is hilarious! my fav scene is the one when they make pip(sandler) go outside when the cop is standing out there, pure comedy genious. most of the movie i find myself laughing out loud, even when i watch it alone. so if u get the chance, i strongly recommend u get this movie, steal it from a friend if you have to. laterz

Awful... Not
Based on the popular "Saturday Night Live" sketch, 1991's "Wayne's World" is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I don't remember going longer than 20 seconds without even smirking. The "Bohemian Rhapsody" sequence is worth the price of the film alone, but it's an altogether hilarious effort.

Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers in his breakthrough film role) and Garth (Dana Carvey) host their own cabel access show in Aurora, Illinois. One night, a sleazy tv exec Benjamin (Rob Lowe) catches their show and gets video arcade honcho Noah Vanderhoff (Brian Doyle Murray) to sponsor it. Wayne and Garth agree to sign the contracts and broadcast the show nationally. They indeed reap the pleasures of fame - baxkstage passes to meet Alice Cooper, $5, 000, 000 plus Wayne winning the affections of robobabe Cassandra (Tia Carrerre). But soon, things go awry. Wayne loses Garth and Cassandra, and his show's cancelled. What could possibly make it worse? Find out in this hilarious comedy romp.

This has proved to be the only good movie based on an "SNL" sketch. It's sad to se that so much of Dana Carvey's talent is in this film, because it's a shame that all of his subsequent efforts tanked ("Master Of Disguise", anyone?). The extras included trailer and a nice documnetary.

"Wayne's World" is a movie that shouldn't be funny but is. It shouldn't be funny because its plot is so ridiculous and pointless as to render the story almost meaningless. The basis of the plot is that two guys named Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) have a cable-access show in Wayne's basement in Aurora, Illinois. The show, which is just Wayne and Garth goofing on stuff, catches the eye of Benjamin Kane (Rob Lowe), a smarmy television producer who wants to buy and remake it into a cash cow. Meanwhile, Wayne falls in love with a local musician named Cassandra Wong (Tia Carrere). After Benjamin comes into the picture, Wayne is afraid of losing Cassandra to him because of his music industry connections, good looks, money, and fancy car.

What saves "Wayne's World" from the purgatory of its plot is Wayne or, more specifically, Mike Myers. Myers was still an unknown in 1992. For those of us who had seen him on "Saturday Night Live" we already knew he could be stomach-hurting funny. However, until "Wayne's World" you just didn't know if he coud keep it going for a whole movie. As everyone knows now, he can.

Myers comic timing created gold out of lead. "Wayne's World" is a movie more memorable for its lines than its story. That can be a dangerous way to make a good movie as the lines can grow tired with age (see "Spaceballs"). That's not the case with "Wayne's World" though. It's still as good today as it was ten years ago.

It makes me feel kinda funny
Long before the world ever heard of Austin Powers, Mike Myers was infusing pop culture with the catch phrases and wild doings of Wayne Campbell and hastening the move of multiple Saturday Night Live characters to the big screen over the course of succeeding years. Wayne and his trusty sidekick Garth raked up at the box office and left us with a classic comedy that will be making people laugh for years to come. Aside from all the Wayne-isms and Garth-isms, this movie changed forever the way we listen to a number of classic rock songs.

Okay - let's review. Wayne lives in his parents' basement, but it's okay because he and his buddy Garth have their very own public access show on their local cable station in Aurora, Illinois. Wayne thinks his dream of doing Wayne's World for a living (and thus escaping from the world of name tags and hair nets) has come true when he gets an offer to do the show on a Chicago TV station, but there's a certain matter with the fine print. Will Wayne sell out? Yeah. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.

Myers and Carvey take their SNL trademark routines as far as they can, going a little too far once or twice (as with the Scooby Doo and Mega-happy endings - although they did make possible the much-appreciated Tia Carrere bikini scene), and it's not hard to see why: Wayne's World was the most popular SNL skit for a good two to three years running. The film has a surprising number of familiar faces: besides the aforementioned Tia Carrere, you get Rob Lowe (fresh off a certain little infamous home movie), Brian Doyle-Murray, Ed O'Neill, Lara Flynn Boyle, Donna Dixon, and - making cameo appearances - Chris Farley, Meatloaf, and Alice Cooper. Of course, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey take center stage at all times. They satirize everything, from Grey Poupon commercials to the entertainment industry, to themselves.

There are a number of memorable scenes: the Bohemian Rhapsody bit as the guys cruise town in the Mirth-mobile, Garth's Foxy Lady dance number (many of us will never be able to listen to that classic Jimi Hendrix tune the same way again), all of the Dreamweaver moments, the Laverne & Shirley take-off trip to Milwaukee, Wayne's Marilyn Monroe impersonation, and others. Whether you knew it or not, you were exposed to Wayne's World lingo throughout the 90s, so if you haven't seen the movie, isn't it time you learn why you should have laughed at all those jokes you didn't understand way back then?

Wayne's World takes you through the world of Rock'n Roll, through the lives of two friends, Wayne and Garth, who own their own television sitcom. Wayne and Garth's friendship, along witht he show, is threatened when a bigtime producer, Benjamin, tries to takeover the show.

Good movie

The Best of Farley
SNL's Chris Farley and David Spade take their act on the road in the pleasing comedy "Tommy Boy". After seven years of college parties, sweet-natured goofball Tommy Callahan (Farley) returns to take his place along side his father (Brian Dennehy) at Callahan Auto Parts. When his father dies, Tommy and his unwilling co-worker (Spade) hit the road to save the family business. "Tommy Boy" is a very funny and enjoyable road comedy that remains the late comedian's finest and most successful film. The storyline is simple and quite predictable. Chris Farley and David Spade have great comic chemistry and deliver some wildly entertaining antics and gut-busting laughs. The cast also includes Rob Lowe, Bo Derek and Dan Aykroyd. The film is presented in its 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen format. The DVD contains a colorful video transfer and a simple 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Its only special feature is the film's original fullscreen theatrical trailer. Despite the poor presentation and the lack of extras, "Tommy Boy" is a worthy addition to any SNL fan and earns a "C+".

Tommy Callahan is a party animal that has just graduated from college, by passing his last class with a D+. Tommy has spent the last seven years at college before returning home to Sandusky, OH to work in his father's auto parts manufacturing plant. Upon returning home, he learns that his widower father is to re-marry and she has a son who will be Tommy's new brother. On the day of the wedding, Big Tom, Tommy's father, dies of a heart attack. Tommy must now learn to run the company and go on this father's sales trip to sell the company's new brake pads. He is paired with Richard,
Big Tom's assistant, for this sales trip. If the two don't succeed in selling enough brake pads, the company will be forced to sell out to a competitor and 300 jobs will be lost. Tommy has a lot at stake if he fails. Tommy's sales pitches initially don't result in any sales until he learns that selling is really about confidence and being able to sell himself. Unbeknown to Tommy and Richard, Beverly and Paul, Tommy's new stepmother and stepbrother, are con artists and are trying to sabotage Tommy's efforts to save the company. Beverly and Paul are really married to each other and stand to inherent the family fortune if the company is sold. Eventually, Tommy and Richard are able to foil Beverly and Paul's plot. Tommy is hailed as a hero for saving the plant and the jobs of its 300 workers.
I give Tommy Boy five stars out of five. I absolutely loved it from start to finish. Chris Farley is a wonderful physical actor and uses his size to his advantage. When paired with David Spade, the two are a perfect comic couple. David has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor that he unleashes on Farley. Tommy Boy is funny on several different levels that require several viewings to fully appreciate. The sound track is great and has lots of songs that you can sing along with, if you know the words. Tommy saves the company and gets the girl. It doesn't get much better than this.

High Five, here's another one!
Amongst the classics of 90's comedy arrive Wayne's World, P.C.U., Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore...and of course, Tommy Boy. Where would the world of comedy be, without this movie? Well, it'd be a notch down as far as range goes, but other than that, it'd just be missing a great film.

Coming home, fresh, actually well done, from college, Tommy Callahan arrives to his hometown to find everything...the same. His father owns the big ol' auto business and everyone's great, until his father dies. With the town leaping on Tommy's back for safety of their jobs, he must take it to the streets and save the business and become the salesman he was meant to be. This would be a great drama film, but it's a Farley comedy, so expect one wild ride.

The film takes a dive into some of the greatest and most memorable scenarios. From Tommy slamming into doors, burning models, and ruinings cars to the memorable lines and bickering between he and fellow co-star, David Spade. The film also has a fine supporting cast, from Dan Ackroyd, Brian Dennehy, and even Rob Lowe as the antagonist.

I could sit here and point out my favorite scenes, but what good does that do. Anyone knows any impersonation or recreation cannot even equal the amount of good fortune one will have when watching the film, for the first time. All I can say is, this is a fine film. This is comedy when it was still important to introduce bold characters, great storyline, and even some drama to tie in emotional aspects. If it were up to me, this film would be sitting on AFI's shelves. But, it's not...so take my word.

Absolutely GREAT for SNL fans and collectors!
This is one of my favorite things to watch over and over again that i never get sick of.

Before i watched this, i was all into the 90's stuff like Adam Sandler and Norm MacDonald (which is still very good!), and i always thought "The 70's stuff is so old, and the humor was so much different back then. i hate it". But after i watched this, i absolutely fell in love with the first 5 years! I've always loved Chevy Chase and Steve Martin, but this is truly some of their funniest work. Gilda Radner is such a sweetheart. It was cool when Molly Shannon and Cheri Oteri gave her a tribute, but i wish it would of been longer. Belushi is a side spliter too.

If you are an SNL fan of ANY era of the show, you'll want to pick this up! A must-have for your dvd collection.

I Will Feed Your Fingertips to the Wolverines...
This disc boasts an impressive collection of highlights from the SNL archives, joined together by (for once) some actually funny links. Tom Hanks is the foil of a tried-and-true SNL convention--the host interrupted by audience members--that brings out the comedic best in Jon Lovitz and Christopher Walken. (By the way, if you missed this year's Walken-hosted show, be sure to catch it in rerun. It was the best of the season so far.) The show even contains some sentimental tributes to departed performers. The beauty of these is that they are all done tastefully and they are, if you are old enough to appreciate them, quite moving. The live musical performances are quite good, particularly Elvis Costello backed by the quite intent Beastie Boys. So good, in fact, that by the time this lengthy (but never long) show ends, you might not even realize that the DVD does not include the musical highlight segments that were part of the original telecast. Too bad, otherwise this would be a five-star disc. There is one segment included in the program that did not make it to air--an interesting behind-the-scenes look at the creation of a show. This may not be a disc you'll watch often, but it's an excellent sampling of what is now--gasp!--a TV institution. And that's not a put-down.

Don't Let The Beginning Throw You Off....
Don't let the beginning throw you off. Yeah, it might want to make you shoot yourself, but trust me, it gets 110% better!!! Just skip the first chapter and everything will be A-okay!

The way it works for the most part is that for every half decade or so they have a segment of SNL clips. Of course, some chapters are better then others, because from what I know, NBC was about to cancel the show in the 80's, it got so bad, but the show is chock full of classics, such as the Adam Sandler Songs, the Eddie Murphy classics (like "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood"), and who could forget all those commercials? Some of the commercials shown are "Schmitt's Gay", "Cluckin' Chicken", and "Oops, I Crapped My Pants". There's even a "Behind the Scenes" roll which is awesome!!! Oh, I could ramble on about how great this DVD is all day!

So, if you're a dedicated SNL fan, YOU JUST CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS DVD!!!! It's worth every cent!

Stop releasing the Best of dvd's
The studio needs to stop releasing the best of SNL and give us what we want complete seasons. Stop teasing us with this crap Best of SNL and give us the hole freaking season, so we can truely enjoy the show.

How can people say that mad tvs better.
Some do. How? I don't know. But all I know is that this is hilarious. The only reason that I didn't give it all 5 stars is because of all the profanity. Saturday Night Live: The Best of Dana Carvey
The opening sequence of this video, a lively and hilarious parody of a contentious Ross Perot press conference, immediately makes one wonder whether the public, when recalling Perot's 1992 presidential campaign, remembers Perot himself or Dana Carvey's dead-on impression of the eccentric billionaire. From his position as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, Carvey became a national sensation because of his skill as an impressionist, and this video captures him at his best, doing his Perot, his President George Bush (with the trademark fractured syntax and oddly disconnected hand gestures), and a devastating Carsenio, a diabolical amalgam of Johnny Carson and Arsenio Hall. Besides the great impressions, The Best of Dana Carvey also offers sketches featuring the insufferably conceited weightlifters Hans and Franz, Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth of "Wayne's World," and of course the Church Lady (who does her bizarre stiff-backed dance, rips into a mean drum solo, and makes her perennial sarcastic comment, "Isn't that special?"). Some sketches, such as one featuring the misbegotten character Massive Head Wound Harry, may make you wonder how it wound up on this tape, but for the most part this is very impressive collection of Carvey's best work. --Robert J. Saturday Night Live: The Best of Chris Farley
The Best of Chris Farley blasts through 68 minutes of the wildly hilarious characters the comic actor created while with Saturday Night Live in the early 1990s. Farley was a comedic gem--not only because he created such bizarre, repulsively funny characters, such as Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker, or Lori Davis, cosmetics infomercial queen, but because he lived completely inside the character, delivering lines with whatever fury, stupidity, hypertension, insecurity, or femininity the situation demanded. Clearly, Farley loved making people laugh and he wasn't afraid to use his big bulk to do it, whether it entailed stripping as a Chippendale's dancer, belly flopping on coffee tables, rolling around on a couch as Tom Arnold, or punching his forehead in dismay on the "Chris Farley Show." What's great about this collection is all of those characters appear; what's disappointing is that some don't linger long enough, while others appear a bit too long. The cafeteria-lady number could've been cut short in lieu of a longer Tom Arnold segment, or Herlihy Boy could've been removed altogether in favor of complete "Chris Farley Show" segments. Still, if you forgot how side-splitting Farley's portrayal of Dom DeLuise or the French-fry-stuffing Gap girl was, this video will happily jog your memory. --Karen Karleski

Saturday Night Live: The Best of Mike Myers
From "Wayne's World" to the creepy hilarity of "Sprockets" and its slinky German host Dieter, this 16-sketch compilation showcases Mike Myers in his Saturday Night Live prime. Wayne Campbell and his sidekick Garth (Dana Carvey) are featured in two memorable sketches, jamming with Aerosmith and enjoying a sexy dream sequence with the babelicious Madonna. The Material Girl shows up again as the daughter of "Coffee Talk" hostess Linda Richman (who was inspired by Myers's mother-in-law) in a choice sketch with Roseanne, featuring a cameo by Barbra Streisand that is, as Linda would say, "like buttah."

More obscure sketches show Myers at his most bizarre, charming, and experimental. "Lothar of the Hill People" challenged network censors with not-so-subtle allusions to masturbation and female genitalia, while Myers's penchant for all things British is frequently indulged, including spot-on send-ups of Ron Wood and Mick Jagger. His portrayal of a hypoglycemic, hyperactive 6-year-old--complete with safety helmet and restraining harness--is both outrageously funny and more than a little dangerous. (It's a miracle that guest host Nicole Kidman keeps a straight face as she feeds the "kid" a chocolate bar, with the expected results.) And while other sketches such as "Middle Aged Man" were not likely to follow Wayne and Dieter to big-screen success, they show Myers doing what he does best: conceiving original characters and pushing them to comedic extremes. --Jeff Shannon

Saturday Night Live: The Best of Chris Rock
Comedian Chris Rock spent several seasons on Saturday Night Live, and this compilation tape of his best moments showcases his considerable talents while unintentionally highlighting how uneven the show itself is. Even in a video selected to showcase Rock alone, he is all too often mired as the second or third banana in an SNL skit. But there are, thankfully, plenty of opportunities in this video for Rock to shine without being upstaged by other performers or left adrift by limp writing. When he appears behind the "Weekend Update" desk to deliver an editorial commentary or a news report, Rock puts his considerable skills as a comedian to perfect use. And in the skits where the focus is on him, he proves himself to be adept at characterizations, such as when he dons a colossal Afro wig to become radical talk show host Nat X, host of "The Dark Side." One peculiar surprise about the video: some of the language in the "Def Jam" parodies that was bleeped out for the broadcast of SNL is here presented uncensored, so while this is Chris Rock delivering perhaps his cleanest material, a few choice words are nonetheless delivered loud and clear. --Robert J. A Mostly Perfect Collection
With so many great comedians gracing the stage of Studio 8H at 30 Rockfeller, you'd think that it's so hard to gather the best material from only 4 cast members in a nearly 30 - year history. But this boxed set proves everybody wrong. Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Chris Rock and Chris Farley, make up this hilarious 4 - disc set. And while there's quite a few flaws here and there (more on that later), it's always good for a laugh and a half.

"The Best Of Dana Carvey" gathers some of the Montana - born comedian's best moments, from The Church Lady to Garth to Hans, as well as lesser - known characters like Derek Stevens and the slightly disturbing Massive Headwound Harry. Also included is a hilarious montage of his greatest impressions ranging from his classic George Bush to Robin Leach to George Michael. Great stuff.

"The Best Of Mike Myers" gathers 6 years of lively and hilarious sketches. While most fans will want this solely for the "Wayne's World" sketches, don't overlook other sketches like "Theater Stories", "Phillip" and "Tokyo Game Show", all of which are equally funny than Wayne, Linda Richman or Deiter. Also his Mick Jagger sendup (featuring the real Jagger as Keith Richards) is brutally funny to say the least.

"The Best Of Chris Rock" is my first sticking point. Rock spent 3 seasons on the show and gave the show some of his greatest works ever, like "The Dark Side With Nat X" and a host of classic "Weekend Update" commentaries, both of which are included here. But there are way too many sketches in which Rock is pushed to the background while another castmember outshines him and everybody else in the sketch, such as Phil Hartman in "The Sinatra Group", which nonetheless is one of my favorite "SNL" sketches ever. Still, pretty funny.

"The Best Of Chris Farley" is a disappointment. For five years, Farley gave the show his all. A lot of his best works are missing, while some are butchered to mere snippets in the montage segments. However, great sketches like "Lunchlady Land" and "Superfans" are shown in their entirety.

Overall, a great boxed set. The only one that's better is the 8 -pack that features these 4 dvds as well as the best of Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler and The Bad Boys. Still, it's good. Hopefully in the future, we'll get discs devoted to the best of Kevin Nealon, Jan Hooks, Norm Macdonald, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Chris Kattan, Darrell Hammond, Rachel Dratch and Mya Rudolph, to name a few.

Greate DVD Box Set
The Saturday Night Live 4-pack contains some of the best skits from the long running late night show. The Chris Farley disc is hilarious, containg classic material such as "Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker" and "Schmitts Gay Beer." Mike Meyers, Chris Rock and Dana Carvey also provide enough laughs to make your stomach ache with characters such as "Wayne & Garth from Waynes World," "The Church Lady," and imitations of former president George Bush. DEFINITELY a box set to add to your DVD collection.

Frustration with just another "Best Of"
Another "Best Of!" AAARGH! Now it's a compilation of four. How creative. When, oh, WHEN are we going to get SEASON DVDs of Saturday night Live? How about DVDs of ORIGINAL Saturday Night Live? WHY are they holding out on us?

Who WOULDN'T buy "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON" ON DVD?!

Imagine what a gem that would be! Imagine the special features on that historical period in TV history. Imagine having the entire first season at your fingertips. All the Steve Martin. All the Gilda Radner. All the John Belushi. Surf around to your heart's content, or sit back and enjoy from start to finish. WE WILL PAY!!!
Enough piecemeal "Best Of"s! Why must we settle for these crumbs when there is a feast to be had?! Too much is left out. With mere "Best of"s, we miss out on everything a full episode has to offer, from classic monologues by Richard Pryor and George Carlin to guest appearances from favorites such as Andy Kaufman and Jim Henson's Muppets to rarer yet still hilarious episodes of The Coneheads and Belushi's Samurai (to name a few) to short films to funny captions appearing beneath candid shots of random audience members. We also miss skits that don't fit nicely into any "Best of" because they feature several players working as a unit. We miss out on all the weekend updates. And there is a reason SNL has musical guests! In the old SNL archives are countless musical performances, many of which are now historical.

How long must we scour the cable networks for full episodes of one of the most original, fresh, and influential shows in television history?!!

ARE YOU LISTENING, LORNE?! WE WANT FULL ORIGINAL EPISODES ON DVD!!!

I love this collection of comic geniuses. I enjoy watching everyone of these comedians and their numerous characters that they play. I recommend anyone who likes to laugh, to buy this collection.

Great deal for some great DVDs
There are some really funny skits in this package. Dana Carvey is the best! Chris Farley does his "Matt Foley" scenes and Mike Myers plays the parts that he started his fame with. The Chris Rock DVD isn't as funny as Chris is in hit stand up. I found them to be lacking in quality (and a lot of his parts were not lead parts) but the package is a great buy just because you're getting so many other good skits. ENJOY! ... Read more
