5-0 out of 5 stars The best movie from the 80s
In Dirty Dancing, Jennifer Grey stars as Frances "Baby" Houseman, a girl who goes on vacation to the Catskills with her father, mother and sister in the summer of 1963. She meets the handsome dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), who works at the lodge where they're staying, and is smitten with him. When she volunteers to fill in for Johnny's dance partner, Baby experiences love and life firsthand from the free-spirited Johnny.

The DVD version of this movie is terrific. The clarity is amazing, the sound is crisp & clear and the bonuses are wonderful. With the bonus features, you get commentary from the movie's creator, a behind-the-scenes featurette (with no audio), the videos for "She's Like the Wind," "I've Had the Time of My Life" & "Hungry Eyes," biographies about the cast & crew (Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Cynthia Rhodes, Jerry Orbach, Jack Weston, the director, the producer, the writer and the choreographer), a short "Reliving the 60s" documentary, the theatrical trailer and a concert featuring the music from the movie.

If you love Dirty Dancing, I highly recommended getting this DVD. It would be a great addition to add to your collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Still superb!
...Dirty Dancing still stands incredibly well proving the point critics made about the film at the time of its release about it being a timeless classic! Dirty Dancing is simply the ultimate feel-good movie. The chemistry between Patrick Swayze (then relativley unknown) and Jennifer Grey (who has not starred in any major production since) is positivley electric and never strikes a false note. Its a charming story of a young, innocent teenager staying with her family at a holiday camp for her vacation who meets the exciting and rebelious dancer, Johnny who she immediatley falls in love with. They show each other a different side to life and soon become lovers. But as with all good love stories there are complications. Giving superb backing support is Cynthia Rhodes in a small but highly effective role as Penny Johnson who is forced into having an abortion and in the process must give up dancing whilst she recovers - enter Jennifer Grey. There are many fun and amusing scenes of Swayze frantically trying to teach Grey all the right dance moves whilst the touching romance between them gradually and beleavably builds. The ending is a triumphant high! What truly makes Dirty Dancing absolutley unmissable is the fabulous dancing which is highly erotic though never once tacky and is accompanied by a sizzling soundtrack that helps build the potential atmosphere. Superb throughout, Dirty Dancing is indeed a timeless classic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands Down the BEST!
Dirty Dancing is hands down the best movie of all time! Enough said.

5-0 out of 5 stars Honestly, how can this get less than 5 stars?
This is such a classic movie. It's cheesy, it's unrealistic and it's fun. What's not to love? Very fun film, one to watch again and again. I think every woman wants Johnny Castle, this movie is hot and cute and great. Not a lot to say, just that this is a wonderful film.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Forbidden Dance
It could have been named The Forbidden Subject, since that's the point of the movie. Anything about the environmental havoc being wreaked on the Amazon is a rare statement, especially if it suggests 'tree hugging.' Well, there you are, in the opening scene the Princess hugs a tender sappling just mowed over by land-raping Petramco. The whole point of their Forbidden Dance competition is to raise awareness of the American Public to the destruction of the land and Ozone layer. That's providing they win the competition and get the air time. Big if! It's a great and talented effort both in dance and style by Laura Herring and Jeff James. Well worth the time, and we won't blow the finale.

2-0 out of 5 stars Give me a break!
This is a bad movie, with a bad direction, bad actors (at least in this movie), bad story and belive me, this is not lambada (some musics are, but the dance is not)

And for the reviewer below, you must start knowing REAL women 'cause Laura is NOT sensual, she's completely ridiculous (in this movie)...

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy fun!
The Forbidden Dance is a fun movie; badly acted, horribly directed and cheesy, yet strangely engrossing and loveable. It tries to be serious, but fails for the most part because everything about it is so dated. Yet, it is energetic and lively, with upbeat songs and very HOT dancing. You'll ultimately find yourself addicted, without knowing why. Fans of Laura Harring (Mulholland Dr.) should definitely seek this out to see her in an early role. It is much better than the similar Lambada, released in theaters on the same DAY in 1990!!! As fun trivia, Lambada producers sued successfully to have the word "lambada" removed from "The Forbidden Dance"'s official title, though only "The Forbidden Dance" uses the song "Lambada" which launched the short-lived dance craze. The title is now used for the DVD release.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lambada all night long!
I really enjoyed this movie, i think it'd be even better if remade with newer actors but it still had me interested! I recommend it to anyone over the age of..oh..12 or 13 because after all it is a sexual dance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for the soundtrack to Forbidden Dance 1990
The movie, actors and most of all the music in this movie was superior and I have been trying to locate a soundtrack to this movie with Kid Creole. He has a wonderful rythem and beat to the music performed in this movie FORBIDDEN DANCE.

IF ANY ONE HAS A SOUNDTRACK TO SELL PLEASE EMAIL ME AT VKF1023@AOL.COM. ONLY THIS SOUND TRACK WILL DO. I'VE BOUGHT OTHER LAMBDA SONGS AND THEY DO NOT TOUCH THE SOUNDTRACK TO THIS MOVIE LIKE KID CREOLE DOES. THANK YOU! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars They don't get any better than this!
Salsa was a wonderful movie! It was a combination of my two favorite things: Spanish dancing and the eighties! I really enjoyed the scene in which the main character was doing a dance choreographed to the background of an auto repair shop! You might as well call him the Spanish Michael Flatley, because he is definitely Lord of the Dance!

4-0 out of 5 stars Vamos a Bailar!
Personally I think this is the best movie ever made for dancing too. I remember the first time I saw this when I was 7 and me and my sister would try to learn the dance moves. I remember that I watched it so much that one day the tape busted. I was so mad at myself for a long time knowing that they would never play it on tv again. 10 years passed and there was this new thing of searching for videos online and thanks to the internet I was lucky to find a copy of this once in a lifetime movie. The movie is great and the actors are HOT!! Even thought the cutest one Kenny (Rodney Harvey) is dead now its still nice to see how gorgeous he was in the movie. I recommend that whoever wants to go back and listen to some hot music to watch SALSA a so called Dirty Dancing for Hispanics or Latinos!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dont buy this movie for the acting; buy it for the dancing!
With a title like "Salsa," you can know what to expect from this movie, and this movie does not disappoint. A young love story, a love quadrangle, and a salsa contest are all plot points to get us to the next dance scene. Fortunately we don't have to wait long between drama interludes to get to all the fun and what this movie is all about! Don't buy this movie for the acting; buy it for the dancing!
Of course, this movie was made in the 80's so you'll see all the trappings of this decade woven through the movie. One could watch this movie as an 80's study. This isn't a detractor, however, from this great dance flick. You'll see bits of 80's specific dancing, 80's style salsa, salsa that transcends decades, "New York" style Salsa, "street" salsa, solo dance numbers, group "line" salsa, and multiple partner switching. Lots of the dancing is timeless and stuff you can incorporate today!
One of the features of this movie is the music performances done by multiple artists of the period. The most notable of them being one each from the amazing, late Celia Cruz and the amazing, late Tito Puente. They music performances are the backdrop for much of the dancing.
As with all forms of dance, there is snobbery as to how to dance "real" salsa. This is even addressed at one point in the movie when Rico, with his more "street" style and the club owner La Luna, with her more polished "New York" style tell each other that they're not sure if what the other is dancing is "real" salsa. Ha ha! The snobbery in dance is ever living!
You will recognise the club owner in the movie as the same actress in the movie Dirty Dancing who tried to steal patrick Swayzee's character from Jennifer Gray's. She is reprising a similar role here. Once again, though, don't get this movie for the acting/plot/drama; buy it for the dancing!
[Note One] the acting here isn't terrible and is certainly bearable, it's just not as high quality as that in Dirty Dancing which has a better plot and acting but is not as good in the dance scenes.
[Note Two] this movie has minimal Spanish; it is 95% in English. Most of the Spanish words are the basic ones we all learned from Sesame Street when we were kids.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Robby Rosa Movie with Some Salsa
The story is about a young man of Puerto Rican descent named Rico, his high school-aged sister and widowed mother. Rico needs to sweep everybody off the floor of the La Luna Club in order to win a chance to go to Puerto Rico to compete for the "King of Salsa" title. Along the way he faces some challenges with family, friends, dance partners, and love interests.

Like the series of movies made with Elvis, Salsa is a movie that presents many contrived excuses to have the main character dance.(Speaking of Elvis, his non-salsa hit "Blue Suede Shoes" also is in the movie) The high points are cameos by Salsa legends like Celia Cruz and Tito Puente among others, who provide a chance to view and listen to pre-1988 salsa tunes by their original artists. There are non-salsa songs plus a lot of free-style dancing. The acting, plot, filming, etc. should have been much better. Instead of a cinematic masterpiece, this is a 1980's dance movie, but that's what you expected from the title.

However, Robby Rosa, who plays "Rico" often jumps from salsa to his own free-style dance, much to the dismay of one of his dance partners in the film and fans who watch the movie expecting to see good salsa dancing from the main character.-and this movie centers around "Rico".

Two scenes were particularly upseting. (1)The opening of the film has Rico and his male co-workers provocatively dancing with each-other. A female dancer appears briefly but she quickly vanishes, as the men get along. At this point we almost thought we had mistakenly gotten a gay-male movie instead of a dance movie (2) Rico's shower scene and naked tush later in the film also were not keeping with the title/theme of the movie.

The title should be "Robby Rosa as Rico and Some Salsa Dancing" rather than "Salsa"

4-0 out of 5 stars Willis and Garner make a great team
I actually enjoyed this movie tremendously, and I try to catch it whenever it appears on cable. Bruce Willis (who, for the record, looks darned sexy in a cowboy hat) and James Garner have fantastic chemistry - I really wish they'd do another picture together, preferably a western.

The movie does play fast and loose with history - but heck it's not a documentary! Repeated through the movie is the line, "That's the way it really happened - give or take a lie or two." When taken in that spirit, "Sunset" is a very entertaining couple of hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Always a pleasure to watch.
I must have been one of the few people who actually saw this film in a theatre when it was released. I got the impression I was the only one who liked it, too, and I'm glad to see now that I'm not alone. From James Garner's always-likeable, always-masculine performance as Wyatt Earp to Bruce Willis's engagingly flirtatious performance as Tom Mix (and wearing some incredible outfits - he manages it beautifully and believably!) to a pretty darned good murder mystery, this film always pleases me. I guess perhaps the mix of old West and silent films confuses some viewers, but I found it very intriguing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A well made, well paced movie.
Good acting, a good script and well edited. This film captures Hollywood of the day, in it's glory and it's decadence.
Gardner's portrail of Wyatt Earp reminds me (favorably) of Kurt Russell's role in Tombstone.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Give or Take a Lie or Two."
I happened to catch the last fifteen minutes of SUNSET while flipping through the Western channel on cable. I was so intrigued by the movie that I rented it as soon as I was able to find a copy (not an easy task). The movie stars James Garner as Wyatt Earp and Bruce Willis as Tom Mix. Mix is starring in a movie based on Earp's life and Earp has been brought in to Hollywood to serve as a consultant. The famous lawman and the colorful cowboy quickly become friends and are drawn into a murder mystery that ultimately leads to a shootout on the evening of the first Academy Awards. The movie is funny, has some good action scenes, and even a touch of romance. The film is a tribute to not only the old Westerns, but to the silent movie era in Hollywood. The setting seems very real and there are some great classic cars that are displayed throughout the film. There isn't any sex, hardly any foul language, and the violence is tame. SUNSET is an overlooked gem that's worth mining.

5-0 out of 5 stars mining nuggets
After raking through the dross of over rated and overpriced Hollywood hype,i found this gem.Fine cast, top story line, fine acting, modest price.A little mystery,a dash of comedy,a bit of Hollywood in the twenties when the studios own'd the police and could get away with murder.I know anyone who is a Jim Garner and Bruce Willis fan won't be sorry with this dvd.
PS.If you like classic cars you'l see some beautiful restored Duesenbergs,Caddys,Packards,Rolls, etc. ... Read more

Made in the heady days of movies like Convoy and Smokey and the Bandit, when CB radios were expected to create the kind of communication network the Internet has provided, Breaker! Breaker! tells the tale of J.D. Dawes (Chuck Norris of Good Guys Wear Black and TV's Walker, Texas Ranger), a trucker in tight jeans and a blonde shag. While J.D. is defending his arm-wrestling reputation in a truck stop poolroom, his younger brother Billy is being taken advantage of by the crooked cops of Texas City, California, a former ghost town turned would-be tourist trap, run by a corrupt judge named Joshua Trimmings. When the scam gets out of hand, Billy disappears--and J.D. comes to town to find him. There are many campy things to appreciate about Breaker! Breaker! (the sequined collar of the shirt Norris wears during a meditation teaching, or the glorious air-brushed eagle on Norris's van), and by contemporary Jackie Chan/The Matrix standards the fighting is slow and unspectacular--but ironically, this actually gives the action some grit and makes the blows feel more visceral than the wild flips and kicks of more recent movies. The chase scenes have surprising momentum, and there's some fine scenery-chewing by George Murdock as the wicked judge. And for a curious bit of trivia, Jack Nance--who must have been playing the lead in David Lynch's Eraserhead concurrent with Breaker! Breaker!--plays a trucker friend of Norris's. --Bret Fetzer ... 4-0 out of 5 stars This is the movie that started it all!
For all Chuck fans this one is a must. Its got all you'd expect from a Chuck film....loose plot, bad acting, continuity problems, and shaky premises. But aside from all that its hillarious from its lewd intro song to the earth shattering dialogs, "Drink Trucker?", thoughout the film. If you want to have some fun this one is a must see!

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Action Flick, not a bad start for Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris made his starring Debut in this slightly hokey action film about a trucker who's brother gets caught in a one horse speedtrap of a town called Texas City. The DVD was mastered well with both wide and full screen versions. My only complaint is a lack of a trailer and the misprint of the time on my copy of the disk. How they lost 20 minutes of movie on the case is a mystery to me, as the movie really is 85 minutes, not 65.

1-0 out of 5 stars chuck norris is old
How the hell did Chuck Norris become a star I mean the guys like 50 and he's so slow. I can't stand guys like him Steven Segal and Van Damme.
