5-0 out of 5 stars so many people miss the point!
When I first saw Scorsese's "King of Comedy" I didn't get it. I thought it was simply an average movie. That was until the last 30 seconds. After I saw that closing scene, I rewound it and watched it again. Then again. I have watched the King of Comedy more times that any other film, because each time I get something out of it and even today, it is so relevant to the whole issue of fame in America, and the sick and twisted lengths that not only will people go to achieve it, but those who revel in the fame of so many untalented individuals on TV and on screen. Why do so many zeroes become heroes??? Robert De Niro plays Rupert Pupkin, a stand up comic who harbours unrealistic praise on his own talent which is zero. Honing in on Jery Langford (Jerry Lewis - in a vastly underrated and professional performance), who hosts his own tonight show, Pupkin tries to convince Langford to let him appear on his show. When things don't go right for Pupkin, he takes matters into his own hands, and cannot tell the difference between reality and his dreams. It is a wake up call to the instigators of media and fame in modern day America. So many people miss the point of this movie. Which is a shame, because it will make you look at the rich and famous in a totally different light. For over ten years, I have yet to see a film that still intriques me as The King of Comedy. Everyone should see this film!

4-0 out of 5 stars Role Reversal
In "The King Of Comedy," Robert DeNiro plays an aspiring stand-up comedian, who is really a borderline psychotic, obsessed with becoming famous. Jerry Lewis plays a jocular talk-show host, who is really a cold, cynical celebrity, tired of being famous. Basically, Lewis (Jerry Langford) plays it straight while DeNiro (Rupert Pupkin) plays it for laughs - not what the audience was expecting to see. That both actors were able to play their parts to perfection is a testament to their talent. Unfortunately, this movie was not a box office success upon its initial release. Hopefully, enough people will discover and come to appreciate this film for it to be issued on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of DeNiro's best roles
This scathing comedy about fame, television and hangers on to both is one of the best film roles Robert DeNiro has taken on. It is easily his best comic role, as he plays a schlemiel that finds a way -- an illegal way -- to worm his way onto network television to give a 5-minute monologue on a late night talk show. What is most telling in this film are the final mintues that document his fame after he goes to jail for kidnapping a talk show host. Few films have so accurately, and cynically, portrayed the world wide news media thirst for fame as these 10 minutes. If your cable system does not get WGN-TV from Chicago, which regularly schedules this movie, you may never have seen it. If so, it is worth your time and trouble. This is a funny, bitter and cyncial look at how fame warps people's minds, including little people, famous people and the media outlets that contribute to creation of fame.

4-0 out of 5 stars SHOWBIZ FROM THE LUNATIC FRINGES (ON A GREAT DVD!)
Martin Scorsese's brilliant satire about a wannabe standup/schmuck played with deliberate humorlessness by De Niro, who suffers from delusions of grandeur, determined to meet his hero Jerry Lewis in a performance played with shocking bravura.

The film is timeless in its depiction of the twin themes of celebrity stalking with its masochistic need to be discovered by the world on one hand, and the perils of stardom on the other. The perfect comic execution could easily have been the inspiration for several of recent thinkpieces -- "Election", "Fight Club", "The Truman Show", "One Hour Photo" etc.

A word for the DVD. It is brilliantly put together with detailed interviews with Scorcese, Bernhart, De Niro etc, plus some funny cameos by Jerry Lewis himself, and a funny handy-cam outtake or two while shooting Lewis on the streets of NY.

A very worthy purchase, not just a rental!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Film Ever - "I wouldn't lie to you Rupe!"
How often do you see a film for the first time in which you get so embarrased for the star you want to press stop every 15 minutes! Once you've made it past the first viewing, you're gunna really enjoy watching this one over and over again - it gets better everytime! I've never laughed so hard watching a movie in my entire life!! 5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!! A MUST BUY!!!
(This is a review for Troll 2, and not Troll 1) Troll 2 is one of the best movies ever made, and now it's getting true recognition by being released on DVD. I have purchased this movie on VHS and watched it lots of times. This is what I like to call Oscar Material. The acting is superb, the music is beautiful, and the atmosphere is truely terrifying. This movie changed my life, and I hope it changes yours by watching it. Buy it today, and prepare to take a cinematic experience that reaches beyond the silver screen. But please, don't watch it in the dark, or alone for that matter, it is far too terrifying.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'd be stupid NOT to buy this!!!
John Carl Buechler's Troll 2 may be one of the finest movies of the early 90's. Ah who are we kidding, it's one of the finest movies EVER!

The film starts out with a family trading houses with another random family that they have never met but have agreed to trade houses with. This is, of course, a completely believable premise, as people in real life do this all the time. At least they do where I come from!

The antagonists of the movie are goblins, and why shouldn't they be? Everyone knows when you buy a movie named Troll 2 you don't actually expect to see any TROLLS or anything. Anyway, these goblins (and believe me, you wouldn't want to run into one of these nasty little buggers in a dark alley, the makeup/special effects team really went all out here) are turning the quiet redneck town of Nilbog (incase you didn't notice, that spells GOBLIN backwards - that is an almost infinitely clever name for a town overrun by goblins!!! John Carl Buechler, you are truly a GENIUS!!!) into a race of human/plant hybrids so they can eat them, because all goblins are of course vegetarians. It makes perfect sense!

The star of the movie, that kid from Neverending Story, must save his family along with some help from his beloved, dead Grandpa Seth and a bologna sandwich. It's a classic struggle of good vs. evil here folks!

If all this isn't enough to convince you to run out and buy at least 5 copies of this piece of cinematic history, there's also a cameo appearance of Sonny Bono. I can' t think of any reason why a rational, sane person wouldn't want to own this!

If you've never seen Troll 2, buy it today! Everyone should experience this film, as it is definitely one of the crowning achievements of Western Civilization.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grandpa Seth!!
Troll II is the landmark of American Cinema. By far the worst (and this is intentional, I believe) acting I have ever witnessed.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Troll: an ok movie
Troll 2: the funniest movie i have ever seen!
it doesnt even have trolls, it has goblins! which are really just men wearing masks with holes in them for eyeholes! there is only 1 guy doing the whole movie, just using a different name so no one will really know it's him! this movie is a MUST SEE! bad costumes for goblins, stupid green liquid crap running down a kid's head, retards trying to act,a kid taking a whiz on green food,a branch coming out of a kid's hand, a retarded grandpa, a dirty man giving a kid green ice cream, a kid with the gayest skateboard i've ever seen, a horrible ending, the worst sound effects ever, a movie having nothing to do with the 1st, and lots more stuff that you can spot yourself! i only have a couple more words to say, funny, and buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Trolls 2 Has Inspired My Life
Every few months or so, I host a "Bad Movie Night" at my house, and invite about 20 of my best friends to share in a night of torrid laughter and fun. My first movie night, we saw The Blob and The Fly.. Which were great.. but didn't really compare to the genius of Troll 2.

I have watched this movie over 5 times, and it NEVER gets old. My friends quote the movie constantly: "Are you still smoking dope Holly?", "You're a genius big sister!" "Who would want to eat you little brother." "Eat before we eat you." "Don't hit him again! PLEASE!" "CONCENTRATE HARDER!" etc. etc. It's a great movie to watch with friends. It has literally bonded us together. I would give it one million stars. It is SOOOO awesome.

The plot is strange, if there is even a plot.. But the characters are what makes this movie.. Everyone has a favorite character, mine would be the mother. Her acting is horrible: "You have to get over your grandpa's death.. I know it's hard for you, and me... his daughter" SOOO GREAT! And the dad is just plain bad, the daughter is a horrible dancer and actress as well, Joshua is hysterical.. He always seems like he needs to take a crap..

If you like bad b-movies, or just want a laugh with your friends. buy this. you won't regret it. ... Read more
