This movie is one of the most grotesquely padded films that I've ever seen. MST3k often mocked short instructional films that were no longer than 30 minutes, and if HELLCATS had been reduced to that length, it would still have been too long. Everything seems to take to hours to occur and absolutely nothing is worth the wait. Episodes like this can sometimes spell real trouble for the viewer, because if the jokes from Joel and the bots aren't up to the usual standard then there is no obvious entertaining badness to distract us. Thankfully, HELLCATS managed to coax some hilarious one-liners out of the gang, and we're spared the thought of having to survive the film without the needed lifeline of wisecracks and puns. The DVD is packaged with the original trailer, which interestingly would give one the impression that this film is all about the various women who hang out with bikers and their naughty and taboo adventures. Shockingly, the movie is absolutely nothing like the trailer. The DVD also comes with the uncut, unedited original version of HELLCATS, which just goes to show that the people at Best Brains, Inc. are not only funny folks, but also tireless philanthropists, dedicated to wiping insomnia off the face of the Earth.
I would provide some of the best lines from this episode, but there really aren't any. By the by, stay away from CATALINA CAPER also, for similar reasons.
One cinematic footnote regards a misidentification I believe of the film's director, Bob Slatzer, who is actually the stockier fellow of the two main "gangsters" and not the thinner one pointed out by Joel and the 'Bots during the picture. I discovered this when I saw Bob Slatzer interviewed in a documentary about Marilyn Monroe. But, this minor error does nothing to diminish the quality and quantity of the humor in this episode, which is so dense with jokes that you'll catch something new each time you watch it. Buy this now!
well first of all let me say that i now have every single episode of mst3k, and i claim categorically that the sci-fi era is better. but the comedy central episodes (which are the only ones that are available on dvd) are still great, and hellcats is a good one to check out in your effort to discover the older era of mst3k. hellcats was aired early in the second season, and is one of the first episodes that is truly hilarious (season 1 was not as funny as later seasons, i hate to say). the skits in this episode are flashbacks, clip-show-style, to skits from earlier episodes, so they provide a nice smorgasbord of mst3k humor. the movie is bad and the music is funny, which we all know makes for great riffing from joel and the bots. so sit back and enjoy "hellcats, careening down the street..." p.s, if you're confused by all the ross hagen/"chili peppers burn my gut" references in this episode, check out "sidehackers" which is available in the mst3k collection vol. 3 boxed dvd set.
Ross is a some sort of law enforcement agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a goofy biker gang after his brother is killed. For some strange reason, Ross teams up with his murdered brothers' girlfriend to achieve this. I will admit that after awhile, I just stopped trying to figure out what was going on in the movie, and just focused on the humor provided by Joel and the 'bots. I did notice a lot of dancing (cough, cough), beer swilling, and general activities you would associate with a psuedo 60's hippie biker gang. Probably the funniest part in the movie for me was when the leader of the biker gang is challenged to a race by the leader of another biker gang. We're treated to about five minutes of watching the people watching the race. I mean, we don't even get to see the race, only hear the reving of engines as the riders supposedly race around. I'm not sure why they couldn't have included some footage of the actual race, being that this is a movie that's heavy on the whole motorcycle thing, but whatever...it wouldn't have made the movie any better. While this isn't my favorite episode, it's still really funny and worth getting if you're a fan. Not a lot of extras on this one except the trailer and the flipside of the disc has the un-mystiefied version of the movie. ... Read more

Bill Bixby you guys!! he is great in this movie as Elvis's manager and he is funny from start to finish and his chemistry with Elvis is the best i've seen from an Elvis movie (Ever) not overestimating.
The chemistry between Elvis and Nancy Sinatra is very evident...on and off the screne. Great friends and they had a blast making this movie. I recall Nancy saying they would ride around the MGM lot on a bicycle built for two when tour buses would come around and the heads would turn. That sounds like an enjoyable experience to me. The film is enjoyable, funny, and for its time, the racing scenes are action packed. It doesn't get any better than Nancy singing "Your Groovy Self" with the blonde hair, [lightened around her face more for the movie] and those smokey, almond eyes. WOW! BTW, Nancy was the only performer to have a solo song included on a Presley album. Impressive and enjoyable. SPEEDWAY, is a fast paced, fun loving, Elvis flick that just happens to "tickle me". Sorry, couldn't resist. ... Read more

Amazon.com The DVD features a commentary by producer Sam Sherman, along with a newly recorded introduction, a profile taken from the cable TV series Split Screen, and trailers to this and four other Al Adamson-Sam Sherman collaborations. --Sean Axmaker Reviews (3)
Actually, the bikers in the film are quite tame. In contrast to Al's classic "Satan's Sadists", this film provides a positive perspective on bikers. The men do get into a bit of macho posturing, but otherwise they're nice folk looking for fun and freedom. The plot of this film is quite worthwhile, however, and provides an excellent look at the end of an era. When the film was made, the Manson family trials had just occurred, which led those equating Manson's family with the hippies to declare that the hippy movement was dead. This movie, which was largely shot at the Spahn ranch, out of which Manson operated, taps into this. Though a well acted and directed movie with a decent script, Angels' Wild Women is more like a good action movie than great art like "Easy Rider", but is similar in its bitter-sweet examination of the end of an era.
Having scene Satan's Sadists first, I was not as impressed with AWW. The chicks could have been a little meaner and some more violence might have helped. Dragged at several spots. ... Read more

Amazon.com Set in San Francisco, The Organization invites invidious comparisons with Bullitt: its somewhat cheesy contemporary soundtrack, derived from Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, certainly marks it as a piece of its period, as do the occasionally less-than-convincing action sequences, risible acting, and far-fetched plot. Poitier, as ever, lends the film a certain dignity and poise, worthy of better material to work with than this. The film is also notable for providing early showcases for two of Cop TV's most famous captains: Daniel J. Travanti (Hill Street Blues) and Bernie Hamilton (later Captain Dobey in Starsky & Hutch) are both assigned minor roles here. --David Stubbs Reviews (1)

I DO wish that the makers of the film had had a little bigger F/X budget. Some of the F/X shots in this movie came from "BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS". Others from the TV series "BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY". I really hate it when film makers do things like that. I have to agree with "A VIEWER from North Carolina", STAR SLAMMER had the potential for camp, but didn't quite make it. HOWEVER, I do NOT think it's awful. It's a good movie if you want to have a few chuckles. As I said, it's a "GROANER", but that doesn't make it AWFUL! (I say that with love Sis, just in case you read this review) Some of the fun of this movie comes from knowing a few of the BEHIND-THE-SCENES secrets. For Example: the actress who portrayed the Warden of the "STAR SLAMMER" supplied all her own wardrobe!
It has the look of sci-fi T&A, but practically no T or A. The acting, as might be expected, is horrible (althouth the lead is pretty and engaging), but so is the dialogue and plotting. What is John Carradine doing in his cameo? ... Read more

I couldn't tell. All I was sure of was that the movie was a bare-bones rip-off of "Indecent Proposal", with a pointless mob subplot to prop up the unraveling story. Granted, Tane McClure and Gabriella Hall are hotties, and the sex scenes do have some steam, so the movie isn't a total disaster, but ultimately, there's just not much to recommend here.
