In the 1870s,pregnant Rebecca (Kelly Preston) and her husband are on their way across the West when they stop at a trading post. Her husband's naivete (and his prized Henry rifle) soon leads to his death at the hands of a ruthless buffalo hunter, and the proprietor of the trading post (Dan Haggerty) is killed as well.Cheyenne warrior chief Hawk (Pato Hoffman) is wounded in thefight with the buffalo hunter, and Rebecca helps nurse him back to health again, opting to stay at the trading post rather than go along with Hawk.Hawk returns to his tribe, but comes back to the post when Rebecca's baby is due (undoubtedly having figured out the date and put it in his Palm Pilot).Together they form a strange sort of love-hate affair and learn to get around their cultural differences, at the cost of Hawk's affiliation with his own people. There are problems with the script and direction of this movie; for instance, the baby sort of disappears for a prolonged period, and Rebecca seems to get over her husband's death within days.Still, there is the spectacular Colorado (?) scenery and considerable attention to period detail in clothing, weapons, etc.Pato Hoffman is excellent as the Cheyenne Hawk; why isn't this actor better known?--Jerry Renshaw ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It is a very good movie, very entertaining.
Pato is wonderful in this movie. For once we actually had a true Native American Man interperting the role of a native american warrior. The only problem is that the costuming and make-up was alittle much. I agree with other reviews--Why is Pato's name left off top billing. He was the only reason I kept watching he captivated my attention. Please let's give credit where it is due. Starring Pato Hoffmann as Hawk. I believe Pato is a treasure. I am devoted fan of Pato Hoffmann.

4-0 out of 5 stars cheyenne warrior
Like the other reviewers, I believe Pato Hoffman deserved top billing. His interaction with Kelly Preston created great chemistry. I believed they should have devoted more time in the movie toward the development of their relationship. Pato Hoffman's character development was great. He played a native american who displyed humor, kindness, great character as well as someone the viewer could relate to. I was disappointed that the people writing the script chose to take the "safe" way out & have Kelly Preston leave Hawk at the end. I think it should have ended with them staying together - unless they decide to do a sequel. In that case, they could have Hawk going to see her & renewing the relationship.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why are there not more A.Native films on DVD?
This film is so exciting and the DVD is full of interesting details about the making of the film, where and how it is made and the details about the disputes over the script were fascinating-I would be giving it away if I told you what they were. Pato Hoffman was perfect as the vibrant cheyenne warrior chief Hawk, where has he been all my life ? Where is he acting now, as I cannot get Naturally Native and The Sentinel on DVD ? I have now bought Geronimo and Wild Bull to see him in action but it would be great to get more recent details of where he can be found as his fan website seems out of action.
This film is great value and has the sexiest actor I have seen in a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheyenne Warrior - great movie
Just a quick note to say that I thought this was a wonderful movie. It was entertaining and believable at the same time. I admit I had to break out the tissues at the end.

I also really enjoyed the producers/directors' commentary on the DVD. Usually I find them boring, but this one held my attention and I found myself wanting to ask questions about some of their comments.

I have since either rented or purchased all of Pato Hoffmann's other works that I have been able to find.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just an old-fashioned love story...
Cheyenne Warrior is a beautiful love story with humour and heart-stopping moments. Pato Hoffman is simply gorgeous and Kelly Preston, whilst struggling with some daft dialogue at times, can still manage to portray emotion in the right places most of the time. ( Note I put Mr Hoffman first - he deserves it!)
A feel-good film that I put on the TV on a grey, rainy day whilst snuggling down into a comfy sofa with a large glass of wine to alternately cry or sigh into! Knowing the ultimate, desperate fate that awaits the Cheyenne of this era there must surely be material there for a subsequent film on Hawk? Especially in this time of renewed interest in the injustices perpetrated against those people?
Buy this film and watch it when you're on your own and don't have to succumb to pressure to agree it's corny ... it's just an old-fashioned love story - enjoy!! ... Read more

As the disclaimer states, this movie may feature Grizzly Adams himself, Dan Haggerty, but it's not about Grizzly Adams. Instead, it's a charming story of a boy moved by the plight of an abused cub kept by an unscrupulous circus. From a Native American trainer troubled by his own collaboration with the enemy, the boy learns of a mystical cave where "the pure of heart" can travel back to a simpler past. He aims to free the bear into the 1841 wilderness, but the cub escapes his leash and the boy meets Haggerty's mountain man alone. Of course, Haggerty agrees to come to the future to set things right. Ninety minutes later, after many scraps with circus villains, the law, and a neighborhood bully, all is well with the good guys, both human and ursine. While the story is a bit cloying at times, it's also funny, good-intentioned family viewing for ages 5 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars sappy movie
this movie was a bit far fetched. the actress who played the sister over acted. the cop and both indian guys were hot!
a+ for them.even the older american indian was a cutey!
good movie for kids, better than spirit of the eagle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Return to Grizzly Mountain
It was a wonderful movie that went back in time to the days of the pioneers were a bear cub could run free and be safe. The scenery was spectacular and majestic and I would reccommeen it to anyone especially a family. The actors were all wonderful and they did a good job. The ending is left open for two sequels going either direction. I am looking forward to future movies from the prodcers.
PS thanks for the wonderful movie. Thank you amazon.com for your couteous services.

5-0 out of 5 stars Times have changed, the heart remains unchanged
A mountain man and modern boy are drawn together through a very special cave linking the present with 1841.

Dan Haggerty, who is best know for the 1970's series The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, stars in this movie. Though the beginning credits clearly state that this is an original production, and is in no way related to the Grizzly Adams series, you will find many similarities. I rather enjoyed that however.

The Mountain Man lives in a secluded cabin in 1841 in peace with nature and the natives on the vast open land of the Pacific Northwest. The boy lives in harried modern times with his older sister after their parents were killed by drunk drivers-(this is only mentioned not shown).

As bullies pick on Jimmy (the boy) they invite him along to the traveling circus where Jimmy finds a very young bear being mistreated and a friendly caregiver amongst the other cruel circus folk.

Through trial and error, bravery and determination this bear cub will have a peaceful and free life. How does he free the bear? What happens at the cave? Who helps him? Well, I'm not going to give it all away! Watch and see....

The time travel through the cave is done in a pleasant fashion and this is a great movie for the whole family. This left a solid vision in the minds of my little ones about caring for God's creatures.

I was very pleased to see Dan Haggerty reprise his mountain man role and I look forward to other productions with him in it.

This would make a great gift and you can feel good about giving it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Escape to Grizzly Mountain
Great family entertainment! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the "bad guys" were too exaggerated and silly. It is a warm story with justice and right values portrayed in a way that isn't pushy. A good time. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The scenery's the star of this lousy film
I never thought Dan Haggerty could act . . . now I know for sure! And he was the best on in the entire cast of so-called actors.

Sure the story has a politically-correct message, but the challenge is sticking with it to the end. This poorly written, poorly acted, low budget affair would have been a total waste of time except for some great scenery. Save your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stupid movie that made no sense!
Dan Haggerty was the best actor in that movie and did a good job acting in it. On the other hand it was poorly written and the rest of the actors and actresses in the movie did a terrible job. It made no sense at all. Some lousy acting kids got mysteriously sent back in time to save a mountain from being blown into pieces. It's funny how the kids were trying to save the mountain from being blown when it already existed in the 20th century. Then the writer made a lousy attempt to make the movie funny by making the kids have all sorts of gadgets and gizmos from the future. It could have been a great movie with Dan Haggerty since I thought some of his earlier movies were great, but the plot was terrible and the "kids from the future" made it even worse.

3-0 out of 5 stars A well-acted family movie.
In this movie (very similar, in atmosphere and personality, to GRIZZLY ADAMS), two modern-day Oregon children are transported back to 1870 via a cave while on a camping trip. There, they help a mountain man named Jeremiah save the mountain from a greedy businessman and his cohorts. The children are compelled to help Jeremiah, because if the mountain is destroyed, so is their hope of returning to the 1990s. The character of Jeremiah is very much like Grizzly Adams: likable and well able to take care of himself in the mountains. The children are well able to handle themselves, and in their efforts to do so, they sometimes try Jeremiah's patience. All in all, it's a good movie. In a way, it's a politically correct movie: the theme is that it's wrong to develop mountains or any other wild areas for business purposes. Political correctness aside, I give this movie a thumbs-up for family quality. And but for one swear word, used once, I would rate it G.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
A movie the whole family can enjoy. My little sister loves this movie. And it teaches you some important lessons.

1-0 out of 5 stars A dumb movie
I think Dan Hagerty is one of the worst actors I have ever seen he was even bad at acting in his show Grizzly Adams but when you compare that to Grizzly Mountain Grizzly Adams seems like an award winner. I think Grizzly Mountain is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Movie Has Been Ruined By Rhino
The sound is terrible! I think the affects channel is on the right and the dialog on the left. The video quality is worse than VHS! How could Rhino do this to such a classic movie?

4-0 out of 5 stars If you liked Tender Mercies...
If you liked Tender Mercies, you'll like this one. Americana is a surprisingly effective movie about a man's quixotic quest for peace and wholeness. Beautifully understated writing and acting. The cinematography is definitely of its time(early 1970's), and the audio sounds like fake stereo. Not letterboxed, so it feels kind of cramped at times. That said, I still recommend it to anyone who likes minimalist movies like Two-Lane Blacktop, Tomorrow and Stranger Than Paradise.

4-0 out of 5 stars beyond kung-fu
I saw this flick years ago and remember it as an interesting and sort of sad movie about David Carradine as an ex-Vietnam loner in a small town. I think it must be worthwhile if you liked the series Kung-Fu and you are over 32 years old, you'll like this mellow movie. ... Read more

I borrowed this from the library some time back, and was VERY unimpressed by the 'story' this all goes by (The 'kid who was picked on but is confident in the end.' type deal.) and it has a small bit of misinformation. For its first animated feature, Bavaria Film turned its back on centuries of German folklore for a story linked to the hoopla surrounding the 500th anniversary of Columbus's first visit to the Americas. The Magic Voyage is a clumsy copy of Disney's Ben and Me, with Christopher Columbus and Pico the woodworm taking the places of Benjamin Franklin and Amos the mouse. (Although he's supposed to be a worm, Pico sports arms and legs--but the designs are the least of the film's problems.) Pico gnaws Columbus's cube of the world into a globe, giving him the first of many ideas. While Columbus obtains financing for his voyage from hotheaded Ferdinand, flirtatious Isabella, and their weasely friar-counselor, Pico falls in love with Marilyn, the firefly princess. Marilyn is the prisoner of an evil but unexplained swarm of bugs, which take her west. Pico and Columbus follow them to the New World, where they steal a golden pseudo-Aztec idol and "make squishy" with the swarm. Although some talented artists worked on Voyage, the animation is crude, and the songs utterly forgettable. It's no wonder this maladroit film never received an American theatrical release. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Ummmmmmm.......
Well, let's see, where to start...oh yeah: this movie is very, very stupid! This movie is so stupid that during certain parts of the movie i shut off teh sound and forced myself to give the movie its own voiceover, often using the words "Borscht". It is really that bad. Apparently, this movie claims that Columbus discovered America while searching for teh pixie girlfriend of a worm that carves things with its face. It also claims that Columbus was Italian, but then, five minutes later, he says that he lived in Spain all his life. Basically, the DVD is featureless, so there's not much to say other than talking aobut the movie. If this is a feature film, and it was set out to have a wide audience, then why does the entire first hlaf hour of the film include about 6 different animations, repeated over and over? And why, during ht eentire film itself, do none of the characters mouths move like the voices? And why, last but not least, who dresses up woodworms in red vests, then make them drill holes in a seagulls beak? Often i wondered if the whole film was improvised , even in the animation. Example: When the worm that carves with face yells "I can't believe it!", his mouth forms like an "O" when he yells "Belieeeeeve". now that i won this movie, i usually just watch it with my friends, who not only laugh at the movies pure stupidity, but add their own voiceover that actually has more substance than the actual movie. And yes, that does include saying "Borscht"

5-0 out of 5 stars A MAGICAL,MUSICAL TALE!
I felt that this movie was a true family movie. The story is full of imagination, you can dance to the very cool songs, and laugh your socks off! The year was 1492-while most still believed the world to be flat,Christopher Columbus had a good idea:he rhough the world was square!Together with his new woodworm named Pico,Columbus embarks on a wonderful adventure to discover America! With the help of the crew, some animals and a lot of luck,Pico and Christopher make it to the New World. But the battle is not over as Marilyn,a pretty and magical firefly is captured by the evil "Swarm Lord".It's up to Pico and Christopher to save the day! "The Magical Voyage"features a colorful collection of fun and memorable characters, brought to life with the voices of an international all-star cast. It's a classic the entire family can enjoy, time and time again!
