The brief 1980s mania surrounding "the Coreys" peaked with License to Drive, a modest but surprisingly still enjoyable adventure comedy. Les (Corey Haim, Lucas) has a chance to date his dream girl, Mercedes (Heather Graham, Boogie Nights, in her first significant movie role)--but he's just failed his driving exam. Motivated by a mixture of pride and hormones, he steals his grandfather's Cadillac and heads out on the town with Mercedes for a night that swiftly becomes an escalating series of disasters, made worse by the foolhardy antics of Les' best friend Dean (Corey Feldman, Stand by Me). Despite some egregious '80s fashion disasters (Graham gets the worst of them), License to Drive holds up surprisingly well--it's no work of genius, but it is a solidly made and entertaining teen comedy that's more coherent than most. The depiction of parent-teen relations is fairly honest and particularly well-played by Richard Masur (Risky Business) and Carol Kane (In the Soup) as the parents. The DVD includes a very funny and rambunctious audio commentary track by the screenwriter and director, as well as interviews with the grown-up Coreys. A must-have for fans of '80s nostalgia. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars License to Drive - my all time favorite!
Being a child of the 80's - this movie was great! I watched it as a teenager over and over (probably more than 50 times) and laughed every single time! If you are a fan of 80's movies, you'll love this one! I've been waiting for it to make it to DVD - I'm so glad it has finally happened. It's a movie that brings back great memories for me.
Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars What more could you ask for?
I waited patiently for this DVD to come out.Ok, maybe not so patiently. Buuuut, I finally got my copy of License To Drive.I couldn't be more excited.Corey Haim, Corey Feldman and Heather Graham drunk and locked in the trunk of a hot car- what else could you possibly want in a light-hearted 80's teen movie!?This movie is an 80's classic! I would say it's even better than most of the Brat Pack stuff... This DVD is top notch. The extras are very cool. Interviews with both the Coreys! I've already watched the DVD start to finish twice this weekend!!!

License To Drive is Pure 80's fun.A must have...

5-0 out of 5 stars A Cool Movie, Nice Extras
In License to Drive Corey Haim stars as Les Anderson. He has a problem. He has no license. He is too cool to be seen on the school bus and it's totally not cool to have your friends mom drop you off at parties. Plus, Wes has a crush on a hot blonde who just happens to be named Mercedes.

The time arrives when Les finally has his opportunity to go out on a date with Mercedes--but his parents discovered that he really failed his driving test. Les has got to make it happen and he takes the car anyway. Heck, Mercedes called him and expected to see him in 20 minutes, what's a teenage boy to do? The night becomes filled with misadventures and Mercedes gets so smashed she spends part of the night in the trunk of the car. The excitement only continues when Les' mother, played by Carol Kane needs to get to the hospital.

If you haven't seen this film in a while, it's just as great as it was when it was first released. The two Coreys followed up License to Drive with the movie Dream a Little Dream. Dream a Little Dream didn't have the commercial appeal as License to Drive. Although both Corey's appear on the cover, this was another film in which Corey Haim was definitly doing most of the driving considering the majority of the storyline revolved around him, his circumstance and his family, but Corey Feldman is a good sidekick as his buddy Dean.

There is also some cool music featured in License to Drive. While watching the movie keep your ears peeled for "Rush Hour," by Go Go's member Jane Wiedlin, "Mercedes Boy," by Pebbles, "Trouble," by Nia Peeples, "I Feel Free," by Belinda Carlisle, and "Get Out of My Dreams and Into My Car," by Billy Ocean.

The DVD itself does have some cool features which makes up for the wait in having this cool film on DVD. Extra's include interviews with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, audio commentary with director Greg Beeman and writer Neil Tolkin, deleted scene, TV spots and theatrical trailers. The DVD-Rom portion of extras include the films screenplay.

The best extra's are the interviews with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. Both actors look much better than they have in years. Corey Feldman has cut his hair since he appeared on The Surreal Life. Corey Haim has lost some weight and is sporting a spiky blond haircut. Both actors discuss how they got involved with the film, how they met and their experience of working together. The interviews are not real short, which is sweet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny As 80's Comedy
Licence To Drive is one of those movies we can all relate to, wanting to get our licence, wanting the hottest babe in school. About certain scenes in the movie, the scenes i laugh at the most is where Dean is testing Les on driving licence questions & he goes up to the intercom & talks to les's sister & burps into it, another scene is where he is on the hill & the elderly driver behind him says "C'mon you little moron!" also the scene where the driver says to Les, "What am i speaking greek"? there are a lot more funny scenes too much to mention here, i just can't wait to buy it on DVD. One revealing scene you see is where charles is trying to pickup a passed out mercedes & take her into the resturant for a soda, in the next scene you can see a shadow of her hair moving back & forth. All in all a very funny 80's comedy that rates a high 5 for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Coreys, Fully Loaded with options and LOW sticker price!
LICENSE TO DRIVE is a fast-moving teen comedy from the 80s starring the comic duo of the two Coreys - Haim and Feldman.Anyone who remembers a time when all our idols were named COREY will love this trip back down memory lane. First off - great cast with Heather Graham in an early role as dream girl Mercedes Lane and Carol Kane as the pregnant mom. It's a typical comedy, but the director provided enough style and zip to make it all work well. The driving exam scene is classic, and there a lot of good one liners "Who would have thought a Mercedes could fit in the trunk of a Cadillac?".The DVD includes a deleted sequence with an ALTERNATE CLIMAX.The whole thing runs about 20 minutes, and shows you how the movie could have ended. Also you get a funny commentary with the director and writer, and some current intereviews with each Corey separately. The transfers and audio are top-notch as well!Great price for a great DVD. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A true sleeper!!
This movie is a bit on the slow side but the pace increases later in the movie. Tremendous acting by James Garner & Sally Field. Even the supporting cast is fabulous. You won't regret owning this film.

5-0 out of 5 stars sweet, sappy, unadulterated fun!!
though a sleeper at the box office, this movie is one of my all time favorite films! with a superb cast, headed by sally fields and james garner, and a great soundtrack by carole king, "murphy's romance" is fun for everybody.

sally fields plays a single mom trying to start a new life for herself and her pre-teen son. simultaneously, she's falling in love with james garner's murphy, a warm, charismatic, much older man.

5-0 out of 5 stars Murphy is a character to look up to in a great film.
James Garner as Murphy is smart, confident, capable, wise and one class act. He is truly one of the greatest characters of all-time. This film is very romantic and the ending is brilliant. I have shown it to four friends and they all fell in love with the movie.

This is a subtle movie and if you like things obvious and over the top then you might miss the point of this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Open your eyes to an exquisite film
I cannot add much more praise than what has been said about this film, but I would advise film students, film instructors, and screenplay writers and teachers to study this film and add a proviso to their pedagogy that great filmmaking cannot BE TAUGHT. Imagine how many film schools, film students, and books on filmmaking and screenplays have been churned out since the nearly two decades that this film was produced, and ask yourself the question, why don't films today measure up the quiet brilliance of this fabulous work. The answer is plain. Inspired filmmaking, directing, acting, and genuine love for the medium and the audience cannot be taught or bought. Take my simple test: read and study Robert Mckee, Syd Field, etc., go get your M.F.A. in filmmaking and go out and make your film. If it's even close to the quality of this film, I'll eat my DVD player. Like a rock music addict's ears that have been damaged by loud music and can't distinguish the nuances of sound, our post-millenium sensibilities have numbed us to the nature of cinematic, albiet commercial art. To paraphrase Alan Paton, "Cry the Beloved Medium."

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming and relaxed
This is one of my favorite movies. James Garner and Sally Field are just great, the writing is very good (Garner's lines are just great), the pacing is relaxed but not slow, and the theme music by Carole King is as good as you'd expect (see if you can spot King in a cameo). What makes it all work wonderfully, however, is the excellent supporting cast. Everyone is a fully realized individual, the town feels like a real community, and there's not a bad actor in the bunch. If you want a love story that's about love and not hormones, buy this DVD. You'll be glad you did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MOVIE THAT INTRODUCED ME TO NICOLE EGGERT!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't know who she was. I never watched Charles in Charge or even Baywatch! I saw this movie on either HBO or Cinemax while in college, and just fell in love with it (AND her).
Nothing in this world like watching a young couple like Haim and Eggert get down and dirty throughout the movie. It made me kind of sad because at the time I had wished I could meet a girl like that, but I have had the kind of sex Haim and "the Egg" had here with other girls in my recent past. :-)
Without giving the movie away though, even I have to admit I felt that Nicole's character, Megan, got what she deserved at the end of the movie.
I personally was "blown away" by the discovery that there actually was an UNRATED version of this movie! I thought "how much MORE could they show?!" The 2 minutes in the unrated version prove to show a LOT more then the R version.
Ladies and gentlemen, all I have to say is; if you like Nicole Eggert, you'll LOVE this movie! No lover of "the Egg" should be without this movie! Now they need to put it out on DVD, and, unlike other low-budget movies recently hitting deev, do it RIGHT (movie trailers, maybe a few deleted scenes, etc.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Blown Away is Amazing
This movie is incredible. Nicole Eggert is so incrediblygorgeous. The story line is great, and the best part of the movie, especially for us guys, is the many times that Nicole is seen completely in the nude. Its a great movie, But not a movie for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best B Movie of All-Time
"Blown Away" is one of the funniest (not intentional) and sexiest (very intentional) B-movies ever made. In what other film can you find Cory Feldam pulling wicked 80's dance moves and 90 seconds later see Nicole Eggert (looking her absolute best) fully de-robing. Nicole engages in no less than five 'scenes' in this film. Whoah.

GOOD NEWS RE: 93 v. 91 MINUTE RUNTIME: This DVD ordered from Amazon is the full, uncut 93 minute version of the film. I have seen the VHS version which is missing ~2 minutes of Nicole. That was a huge disappointment. And while the DVD case itself says the running time is 91 minutes, don't let that fool you: this movie is in its original and perfect wholeness.

2-0 out of 5 stars One or two hot sex scenes; that's about it.
First note: This is not the same film as the Jeff Bridges/Tommy Lee Jones thriller about a mad IRA bomber. This movie came much earlier.

I remember when this movie first came out in the theatres. It looked ridiculous then and it certainly does now. Give credit to the two Coreys, Haim and Feldman, for going against their usual goody-two-shoes pairing and delving into such decidedly sleazy material as this. And give credit to Nicole Eggert, who has an undeniable allure and does Basic Instinct, Jr. here with remarkable lack of inhibition.

But do these elements make a good movie? Not really, considering Haim's watery presence as a leading man and the ridiculous characterizations and situations. Feldman fares better as a punk so sleazy that you just have to smile at his behaviour. The finale is especially wanting, a lacklustre bedroom confrontation that is strictly made-for-TV in its staging and dialogue. So all that's left is a surprisingly erotic first encounter between Eggert and Haim, some snippets of nudity, and a slightly disturbing feeling for the audience. Like the film Kids and Bully, this movie makes you into a voyeur into an explicit portrayal of teen sex lives, though unlike these two films, Blown Away is so cartoonish in execution and tone that it qualifies mostly as a conduit for the eye candy of Haim and Eggert.

1-0 out of 5 stars This movie Blows...
I see people giving five star rating for the sole reason of seeing either Nicole or one of the two Corey's nude. Be warned this movie is not good otherwise!! ... Read more

In the brief flower of his teen idolhood, C. Thomas Howell starred inthis unexpectedly mature teen comedy. High school loser Michael (Howell)receives an unsigned love note and hopes it's from the queen of the socialscene, Debbie (Kelly Preston). When Debbie brushes him off, his best friend Toni(Lori Loughlin) convinces him to send her an anonymous note of his own--onlyToni, who's so in love with Michael that she wants him to be happy, rewrites hisclumsy fumblings into romantic prose, and Debbie swoons. Meanwhile, the firstnote has fallen into other hands, setting off misguided passion among the kids'parents. Secret Admirer could have been familiar fluff, but the plotkeeps taking unexpected turns, tweaking the clichés of the teen genre with adose of reality. The characters reveal surprising sides, resulting in aunusually rich story that earns its happy ending. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY ON DVD-YEAH!!
After hiring the movie'Perfect' so many times, after the film I would always see this trailer for the movie 'Secret Admirer'. So for many years I always wanted to see it until finally a couple of years ago I got my wish, it got played on TV. Since then it's been played a couple more times and I must say, I dig this film. Sure it's not the absolute best film you will ever see, but there's something about it that charms me to love it. C.Thomas Howell, Lori Loughlin and Kelly Preston are good in their roles. It ones of those movies that will always be in my collection of favourite films. Plus I love watching the trailer

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite 80s movie
Yes.Its a trully great loveable teen movie from the 80s.The best in the movie are following ,not necesserelly on this order:

-Lori Laughlin-in my oppinion shes the most sweet and loveable actress in a movies like that.Unforgettable.Its gonna stay in my memmorie forever and ever.the sweetness on her face and acting way is very welcomed in a time like this:cold and filled with uncertainty.

-The jann hammer sacore:I didnt know that was the name of the score composer but I always loved it and every time i go to USA i look for it hopefull for find the cd but i never suceeded.Im still looking for it like someone who is looking for a reason to fall in love again or better for an inspiration.MY first true love I watched this movie in an afternoon tv exhibition.
-the sexy kelly preston-shes really nice but doesnt even get closer to what Lori is in the movie.

I guess I should stop know since im getting to prsonal in this review.I want to say sorry for any mistake.I wrote it quickly and my first language is portuguese(im from Brasil)...Thank u very much for reading this...
Bye,Lucas.

5-0 out of 5 stars start the car ! open the back ! start the car ! open the bak
this movie is classic, reminds me of the stuff me and my buddies used to get into, especially the scene when the frat boys are chasing their van ! i had a friend who used to drive us around in his van, and a similar incident happened to us !!! i fell in love with lori loughlin when i saw this movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pedictable and Perfect
This was the first DVD I purchased after I bought my DVD player (I know, it took me a while to get one). I had never seen the movie before, but amazon[.com] reccomended it so I took the chance. It had the perfect amount of predictability and comedie and romance. It's the same story line that gets used a million times and never grows old. Boy and girl are best friends. Girl likes boy, but boy likes a different girl. Boy asks for help from girl to get the other girl. Boy realizes he's in love with friend girl just in time to stop her from leaving.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice '80s Movie Fluff
Nice little '80s "cable" movie. The cast is great and especially Kelly Preston's gifts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Teen Movie
Let me tell you, Lucas is one of the best teen movies ever! In an age when people think teens have no feelings, and are sex, and party crazy, it is refreshing to see a film like this. A true gem sbout the joys and pains of growing up. Excellent performances. It is too bad Corey Haim made bad movie choices afterward, because I believe he has talent. Anyway, he wil always have this one. Charlie Sheen, and Kerri Green are also marvelous. Do yourself a favor, and check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A rare example of very good film making
I saw this movie 7 years ago and I thought it was a very
special film, not only because of the script but because of the incredible acting talent on display.
I have to say that those glasses do not flatter Corey Haims features but they were an important part of making the character Lucas more believable as a nerdy, yet highly inteligent young boy.
Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder are great as Lucas`s protectors against the school bully.

The magic between Haim And Ryder on screen has to be scene to be believed and as I have said before in respect of Corey Haim its a shame that he could not have continued the same standard of acting in his more recent appearances.
Great film buy it or lose something very special forever

5-0 out of 5 stars Heroes Come In Every Shape and Size!
"Lucas" is a film about growing up. We all can relate to the problems associated with adolescence and puberty, especially the part about wishing we were someone else. This film is about heroes and the unlikely places you will find them. Underdogs can win in the game of life. An excellent movie for young and old alike!

4-0 out of 5 stars Corey, is that you?
80s heartthrob Corey Haim first tackled the role of supremely dorky outcast Lucas Blyde before THE LOST BOYS and LICENSE TO DRIVE.

Many people are unaware of this, which is understandable. In 1985's sleeper hit, LUCAS, he is minute and scrawny. He doesn't sport the messy bleached and chopped style he did when swooning teen girls tacked his photos on their bedroom walls, courtesy of TIGER BEAT magazine.

During Corey Haim's 15 minutes of fame, I was a tot waddling in diapers. And when Lucas hit theatres, I wasn't even alive yet. But I did see bits and pieces of this movie on the Disney channel when I was about 7 or 8 years old. Only later did I rent the DVD. Is this another teen movie? I think not.

Lucas is super-cheery and super-smart, intellectually above his peers. In fact, he skipped not one, but TWO grades. So he's a 14 year-old sophomore in a typical suburban high school.

The end of the summer, he meets a new girl named Maggie (Kerry Green). If it weren't for his perseverence, he never would have won her friendship. After gawking at her on the tennis court, and after she implies a good 2 or 3 times she'd prefer to be alone, she finally succumbs to his charms. They spend the last two weeks of vacation attending classical music concerts, looking at different types of insects, and cruising the neighborhood in Maggie's car. Maggie finds a friend in Lucas. She even confides in him about her divorced dad and his 19 year-old girlfriend.

When high school officially starts, things change. Lucas is blinded by his infatuation with Maggie. Maggie sees him as a very good friend and nothing more. She's deeply hurt when she sees how some of the jock crowd treats him, humiliating him to no end. One of the exceptions, however, is Cappie, played by Charlie Sheen. "I used to treat him like everyone else does," he laments in the school basement. Cappie changed his ways after Lucus brought him his homework while he was away from school sick. Since then, they've been on friendly terms.

But Maggie isn't attracted to Lucus, who is 1 1/2 years younger than she is. She wants Cappie, but he's got a girlfriend, Alise, played by Ally McBeal's Courtney Thorne Smith. When Cappie and Alise break up (which I saw coming), Cappie turns to Maggie for support and a shoulder to cry on. And a new relationship, much to Lucas's dismay.

Lucas had previously vowed to stay away from the world of jocks and cheerleaders. In fact, jocks and cheerleaders are everything Lucas is not. Before, he deemed their world "superficial." Now, to impress Maggie, he is willing to do whatever it takes.

He wants to be a footballer.

Can he do it? Or will is experience out on the field knock sense into him (figuratively speaking, of course)? Will he win Maggie's love or are they destined for friendship and nothing more?

Watch and see.

I'm surprised that LUCAS received so little recognition. I'm also surprised that Corey Haim tackled the role with such ease, considering that the same boy in LUCAS also starred in a plethora of unmemorable 80s cheese. Charlie Sheen was sexy, subtle, and wonderful. Kerri Green was also fantastic - this movie made me contemplate why she is no longer a Hollywood starlet, being this, along with THE GOONIES, are her only two films worth mentioning. Audiences may expect this comedy to be cheesy and lacking the heart of some 80s classics, yet I'd rank it high on my list. It's got poignant heart and soul and the entire cast gives praise-worthy performances.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really enjoyible movie
This is just a fun movie. It is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again. It is a heartwarming true 80's movie that I love. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The 80's at it's finest! Not to be missed!
I saw this movie when it first came out... I"ve owned the soundtrack on tape and now on CD... I've bought the movie used from a video store when I couldn't find it new - and I hope that it will somehow get onto DVD... The movie is a must see if not a must own.. the Soundtrack is a MUST OWN for sure... one of my fave's of all time with it's ONLY problem being that it doesn't have the song "Where Is She" by Blue Future on it - if you've seen the movie, you know the song... other than that it's near perfection... another great soundtrack "The Lost Boys" ironically another Corey/Corey tagteam hit...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie for all Generations.
This movie is a great movie and I have been enchanted by it since I first saw it in the 80's. Now it is out on DVD and I still enjoy it. It is so romantic and has alot of human emotion in it. I have to also admit I used to be in love with Meredith Salenger. She is such a fine actress and Wow, what a bod. This movie has soooo much cool music in it and it appeals to all ages. The romantic part of me loves this movie and it is right up there with another romantic movie that I love, "Xanadu" with Olivia Newton John. Corey Feldman might not have been the best actor ever, but he was excellent in this and the Academy Awards should have noticed. (Like they ever vote for anthing that REALLY deserves it). The rest of the crew made an excellent movie and the dirctor and editor did a first rate job. What else did the director go on to do?

Pick up the sound track and you will love it. I listen to it all the time and the inclusion of the Van Morrison hit "into the mystic" sets the mood for any situation. Beautiful movie and all time classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite movie of all time so far
although a hard movie to follow at times, its very entertaining and i know it word for word.i have probably watched it 50 times or so.its not for everyone, but if you like 80s movies about romantic comedy with wild twists you will love this one.its worth a buy for sure, and i suggest getting it new ,for only a few dollars more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dinger lives / An 80's gem
One of my favorite films so defining of the 80's. A classic teen angst high school movie but with imagination. I think Corey Feldman & Corey Haim made a great team in this. This film makes you want to go back to the 80's as a teenager in high school, watching it nowadays. I completely related to Corey Haims character Dinger. Dinger and Bobby are best friends Bobby falls for Lainie the hottest girl in school and has to convince her that she loves him before the night's over but here's the story in an accident Bobby switches his body with the old man next store living life thru his eyes and vice versus. The same thing with Lainie and the old man's wife. A romantic comedy with a twist. Pay attention to the characters and their bond. A great film about friendship & relationships in high school. An essential to collection for anyone who grew up in 80's cinema. I own the DVD and the soundtrack is great too.

Corey Haim (back when he was still cute) and his souped-up hot-rod of a wheelchair are all that stand between a sleepy little New England town and a ferocious full-moon killer in Stephen King's adaptation of his novella Cycle of the Werewolf. This minor entry into the werewolf canon lacks the scares and sense of humor of superior hirsute thrillers The Howling and An American Werewolf in London, but pays off in some nice casting touches. Gary Busey is loyal to the end as Haim's beer-guzzling Uncle Red, Twin Peaks's Everett McGill cuts an unsettling figure as the town minister, and fleshy B-movie icon Lawrence Tierney (Reservoir Dogs) is the gruff bartender who breaks up bar fights with a baseball bat called "The Peacemaker." The monstrous wolf beast, a towering mountain of fangs and fur, is the creation of Carlo Rambaldi (E.T.). --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Werewolf, Killings, Lynch Mobs,...A Silver Bullet
A delightfull movie from yesteryear, a very good movie indeed for the time frame and year it was made from. If your looking for all the computer animation, special effects of todays modern movies, tis best to look elsewhere, but tis if a night of fancifull storytelling, a slight scare, and a good story from stephen king tis what is on your mind, than look no farther than here.
A Story of a small town struggling against an unknown menace to most, but the killer is known all to well to a small boy that is lame and bound to a wheelchair.
Gary Busey gives a wonderfull performance in the part of Uncle Red...the uncle that each of us have, the magic uncle, the big brother uncle.
The Narrarator of the story adds a good element in her return of memory and the voice she adds to the movie, in the remembering form of the boys sister.
Overall a good movie to be had and seen, and I reccomend it, for both stephen king fans and those of the horror genre in general.
Watch it on a full moon, and don't forget to buy your silver bullett.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie!
This movie was an excellent horror movie. Corey Haim plays the hero in this film. He has a motorized wheel chair and without
question believes in the presence of an evil werewolf. His beer
drinking uncle is ably played by Gary Busey. The role of the minister(and actual werewolf) is played by Everitt McGill. The
werewolf is frightening. He is huge and bloodthirsty. This evil
monster spread fear throughout the community. It finally falls upon Corey Haim and his uncle to stop the werewolf by killing the monster with a silver bullet. The ending of the movie is very
noteworthy. This movie is a good watch. Buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
While this movie has few of the bone chilling moments of "An American Werewolf in London" or "The Howling," it still has moments where it is fascinating and at least a couple of places where the tension rises. Helping along the way are Gary Busey as Marty Coslaw's (Corey Haim) Uncle Red, Megan Follows as Marty's sister Jane, and Everett McGill as creepy Reverend Lowe.

There are murders happening in and around town, and Marty is convinced it is the work of a werewolf, with whom he has a close encounter; a really close encounter. At first no one believes Marty, as you would expect, but then Jane is convinced. Finally Uncle Red is sort of convinced. The tension builds until the night that Jane and Marty's parents are away from home and Uncle Red stays with Marty, Jane, and a single silver bullet.

While there are other werewolf movies with a higher scare factor, this one remains one of my favorites. I will watch this movie sooner than many others just because it is familiar and the characters are generally likable. It is like a cartoon in many ways, but these same qualities make it an easy to watch movie. There are a few intense moments to spike up the movie, including the encounter between Marty and the werewolf on an isolated walking bridge at night in the country, another encounter between a group of citizens out to hunt the murderer, and encounters between the werewolf in his human form and Jane and Marty.

This movie is a must have for Stephen King fans as well as those who have a penchant for people who change into furry creatures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Super Scary
This movie was really scary. It got really bad reviews, and I don't understand why. True, there is a little bit of gore in it at the beginning, but so what. Really well done.

A cycle of terror ...

Every month, when the moon is at its fullest, the usually quiet town of Tarker's Mills is visited by what the townspeople think is a homicidal maniac. Mutilated corpses begin to turn up and a curfew is administered upon the residents of Tarker's Mills. One crippled boy nevertheless decides to ignore the curfew - which led to the cancellation of the Fourth of July Fireworks - and meets the mysterious murderer face-to-face one night. So begins a quest to discover the true idenity of this monster.

Daniel Attias has produced one of the creepiest Stephen King films ever with 'Silver Bullet'. The screenplay (written by King) is an adaptation of his novella, 'Cycle of the Werewolf', about a lycanthrope who hunts down the townspeople of Tarker Mills. The film is well paced and has a 'whodunnit' feel, as well as plenty of extremely scary moments that will ensure you do not head for the 'eject' button, feeling you have wasted your hard earned dollars.

Moreover, there is a great cast here, headed by veteran actor Gary 'Point Break' Busey, Corey 'The Lost Boys' Haim, and Terry 'The Stepfather' O'Quinn.

I first watched this film when it came out for rental in the mid-eighties and it scared the bejezus out of me. So, take the nightmare ride of your life through the fog shrouded woods of Tarker's Mills, but beware the moon.

'Silver Bullet' also stars Everett McGill of 'Twin Peaks' and 'The People Under The Stairs', and Megan Follows, star of 'Anne of Green Gables'. ... Read more

THE LOST BOYS
*****
THIS IS POSSIBLY THE BEST VAMPIRE MOVIE WITH QUEEN OF THE DAMNED CLOSE BEHIND. THE ENDING WAS BRILLIANT AND THE SONG THAT PLAYED IN THE CLOSING CREDITS WAS HAUNTING. FOR ALL THOSE WHO DONT KNOW THE SONG. IT'S PEOPLE ARE STRANGE AND IT'S BY ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN. OK SO THE MOVIE WASNT FROM MY ERA SINCE I'M 17 AND I DIDNT EXPECT TO LIKE IT BUT MY COUSIN BOUGHT OVER THE DVD AND I WAS SHOCKED BY HOW GOOD IT WAS. KEIFER SUTHERLAND IN HIS ONLY GOOD MOVIE FROM THAT ERA SINCE PROMISED LAND STUNK. I'D BE EXTREMELY HAPPY IF THEY RE RELEASED IT INTO THEATERS WITH DELETED FOOTAGE. I WOULD GO SEE IT AS MANY TIMES AS I COULD AND THEN WHEN THE DVD CAME OUT I'D BUY IT SINCE IT'S MY ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE. OK SO NOW TO THE STORY MIKE IS THE NEW KID IN TOWN AND HE FALLS INTO THE WRONG CROWD. THE VAMPIRE CROWD. THE REASON HE MOVED INTO TOWN IS BECAUSE HIS FAMILY WAS MOVING IN WITH THIER GRANDPA. HIS MOTHER SUPERBLY PLAYED BY DIANE WEIST SUSPECTS HES WITH THE WRONG CROWD AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE. SO RENT THIS AND ENJOY A TRULY GOOD MOVIE. YOU WONT BE UPSET. YOU WILL ACTUALLY BE HAPPY THAT YOU RENTED IT. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH WATCHING IT.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's fun to be a vampire!!
And yes, it certainly is. As this is a movie I've loved utterly and completely since I was a mere 13 years old, I feel I've got a little authority to review it...although maybe not in a totally unbiased way. We start out with what is perhaps my favorite opening scene in a movie *ever*. David (played so perfectly by Kiefer Sutherland) and the boys (Dwayne, Paul, and Marko) making trouble with the Surf Nazis on Santa Carla's carousel. The security guard who breaks up the fight and kicks the Boys off the boardwalk is going to regret this later, as he becomes yet another face on a missing persons poster.
But the story really centers around Michael and Sam Emerson (Jason Patric and Corey Haim), brothers who have come to Santa Carla to live with their grandfather because their mother has just gone through a divorce and is now 'flat broke.' Michael meets and falls for Star (Jami Gertz), a half-vampire who seems to have been involved with David at some point. David goads him into going to the vampires' lair and he ends up drinking some vampire blood, thereby making *him* a half-vampire. Meanwhile, Sam meets Edgar and Alan Frog (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander), two vampire hunters who have never actually hunted any vampires before. Sam finds out what his brother has become and enlists the Frog brothers' help in finding out who the head vampire is and restoring Michael to his former self. That's the basic premise.
I think the reason I've always loved this movie so much is that the Lost Boys are just a great group of vampires. They love their existence and have complete fun with it. Other than that, I find it to be a good mix of horror and comedy, with some classic lines I still use to this day. Of course, I do have a couple of problems, but that could be because I have seen this movie over 100 times and have also read the novelization. There is obviously a day missing between when Michael becomes a half-vampire and when David takes him to the train tracks, and I like that day! It happens to be the day (evening) that Michael gets his ear pierced.
The DVD transfer is pretty good, although it looks a little bit old. It is a lot better than the VHS, however, and it's widescreen. The extras are pretty much non-existant and what I wouldn't give for a special edition of this movie. Well, anyway, sleep all day, party all night, never grow old, never die. Of course it's fun to be a vampire!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thou Shall Not Kill
When a single mother (Dianne Wiest) and her two kids (Jason Patric, Corey Haim) pack up and move from Phoenix to southern California, more specifically, Santa Carla, "the murder capital of the world," they have more than a little bit of adjusting to do. The two teens and their mother move in with their quirky but loveable grandfather (Barnard Hughes), who has an inkling that there is more to this town than meets the eye. At first, things seem different but manageable, until Sam meets the "Frog brothers" at the local comic book shop. They hand him a horror comic about vampires and tell him to think of it as a survival manual. Are these two merely kids with an over-active imagination, or is there some supernatural cause for this odd little coastal town's nickname?

When the older brother, Michael, goes into town for a live concert, he runs into a rather attractive woman named Star (Jami Gertz). Star introduces Michael to her friends, who just happen to be vampires, and they decide to invite Michael to be one of them. Unbeknownst to Michael, he drinks the blood of David (Kiefer Sutherland), the leader of a band of motorcycle riding teenage vampires, thus giving Michael this supernatural dark gift. However, he must make his first kill before becoming a true creature of the night. Only one thing can save Michael from an eternity of bloodsucking. The head vampire must be killed. But who is the head vampire, and can he be found before Michael gives in to temptation? Will Sam and his newfound friends be willing and able to help Michael before it's too late?

This film is a classic, light-hearted 80's foray into the horror genre, complete with horrible wardrobe, glam rock, goofy humor, and a stellar cast performing a great screenplay with a cohesive plot. There are indeed some great lines in this film that are quite memorable. The Frog brothers, in particular, serve as some cute comic relief. The effects and make-up are outstanding, and this is really noticeable in the final, knock-down, drag-out fight in the end of the movie. The cinematography is also really well done (for example, the aerial shots when the vampires are flying towards the house).

This movie is not meant to be taken very seriously, and it is certainly not Anne Rice or Bram Stoker by any means, but it is some great old-fashioned weekend entertainment. Overall this is a great movie that everyone who grew up in the 80's should definitely own. Moreover, it's a great addition to anyone's vampire or horror collection. If you can enjoy a light-hearted romp through vampire mythology, then definitely pick this film up!

A small downside to this DVD is that there are few extras. If you merely want a great movie at a low price, then pick up this DVD. Otherwise, there is a two-disc set coming out soon that should be worth checking out!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lost Boys! My favorite
This is the movie that started it all for me. Vampires into rock n roll, and the lead actor looking like Jim Morrison who can ask for anything more. I loved how the culture of the 80's was brought out in this classic horror film. The Big Hair, the tight pants, the rock n roll, and vampires all in one, who could ask for more. I highly recommend this movie for anyone who wants a scare.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bloodsucking Fun and Big Hair
I don't think I was old enough to remember this film hitting cinemas, but I discovered it before I got too cynical and still have a deep affection for it. It combines horror, forbidden romance, comedy, and touches on issues of peer pressure, loss, divorce and the importance of sticking by your family (even if your brother is a vampire).
A mother (Dianne Wiest) and her two sons (Corey Haim and Jason Patric) move from Arizona to sunny Santa Carla and in with their formulaic "crazy granpa" (you know the type I'm talking about) as a result of divorce. The eldest son Michael (Patric) quickly falls in with the Wrong Crowd by accidentally moving in on Head Honcho's girl (the lovely Jami Gertz). Things take a turn for the worse when Michael discovers these aren't your average bike punks, but a gang of wild vampires. Indeed. It's all up to bratty little bro Sam (Haim) and his new allies the Frog Brothers to save the day, and stop his mother from getting too cosy with a new guy who doesn't just run an appliance store (a nice performance from Edward Herrmann who seems to pop up everywhere).
Kiefer Sutherland is a treat as David, leader of the biker vamps, I still marvel at how he can make a peroxide mullet look cool. He plays this role as a sort of seductive bully very well.
Corey Feldman (because 1 Corey is never enough) also puts in a nice turn as Edgar Frog, plus you'll spot Alexander Winter of Bill & Ted's fame as one of the gang.
It's better than any recent vampire movie, has a great 80's soundtrack (Cry Little Sister, you know you love it) and a greasy saxophone man in purple pants. It's fun, there are a couple of scares and a nice hint of splatter (the Surf Nazi attack is like something out of Peter Jackson's Bad Taste). I give the bare-bones DVD package 3, but the movie 4. And fear not, there will be a special edition very soon with retrospectives, making of and tons more stuff, keep eyes peeled! ... Read more

This 1987 thriller was a predictable hit with the teen audience it worked overtime to attract. Like most of director Joel Schumacher's films, it's conspicuously designed to push the right marketing and demographic buttons, and granted, there's some pretty cool stuff going on here and there. Take Kiefer Sutherland, for instance. In Stand by Me he played a memorable bully, but here he goes one step further as a memorable bully vampire who leads a tribe of teenage vampires on their nocturnal spree of bloodsucking havoc. Jason Patric plays the new guy in town, who quickly attracts a lovely girlfriend (Jami Gertz), only to find that she might be recruiting him into the vampire fold. The movie gets sillier as it goes along, and resorts to a routine action-movie showdown, but it's a visual knockout (featuring great cinematography by Michael Chapman) and boasts a cast that's eminently able (pardon the pun) to sink their teeth into the best parts of an uneven screenplay. --Jeff Shannon ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Forget it
I thoroughly rotten movie desecrating a thoroughly wonderful book. What were they thinking?

5-0 out of 5 stars A different Breed of Brotherly Love
What can really be said about "Watchers" and "Watchers 2." Based loosely (and boy do I mean loosely) on the novel by Dean R. Koontz, these movies are the story of a dog and his brother... a genetically enginerread military monster. These are the kinds of movies, that as kids scare the hell out of us, that we forget when we grow older. Then one day when were in the video store, or fliping around bad cable, we see it once again, and we realize hows not scary, but still good they are.

I grew up in a house that loved cheesy B horror moives, so Watchers was just one on a long list. I had completely forgot about it until one day I was going throuh my bookcase and found the paperback novel. Not remember much about the movie (other than Corey Haim was in it), I came here to amazon, and purchased my copy. When I recieved it, I poped it in a watched both films.

The first movie, although cheaply done, was in face pretty good. The acting wasn't great, but it was much better than expected, and the speical effects were half bad. The Second movie I hate to say, had a much better script, but worse acting and budgets.

If your a fan of 80s B Horror, movies this is definatly worth a look, or at least a rental. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars I like this one
I like this one due to the fact that when i watched it i was well into the rollerblading scene. Its a good movie about a guy who tries to save his little brother becoming a drug addict, on a new drug called 'mist', the punch line is however, this drug makes the user completely impotent. This is a ploy from the Rollerboys themselves to make the America a better place, after its downfall. They call the drugs affects 'the day of the rope'. Corey Haim then comes into play as a hot shot rollerblader, who needs to convert to a rollerboy to save his little bro. By converting he is pushed into a life of sex hungry women, and beating up innocent civilians. This is a good film, but it only deserves three stars due to the fact that its quality and content and not upto todays standards, still i urge you to buy this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE COOLEST COREY HAIM MOVIE!
I am watching this movie right now on tv and it's just so cool! It's set in the future when Corey Haim is a rollerskater and joins the Rollerboys gang to tip off the police on all the bad things they do. While doing this he delivers pizzas and takes care of his little brother. I know many people might think it's a corny movie but to me it's so bad that it's good! And for all you 80's kids, COREY HAIM LOOKS HOT! He's hot enough that you can fry an egg off the screen! SIZZLING! Definitely the better looking Corey!

3-0 out of 5 stars 'Xanadu' it ain't
"Mad Max" meets "I Was a Communist for the FBI" on Rollerblades in a time capsule of late Cold War-era apocalpytic fears. While the sets don't hold up well a decade later, the script seems surprisingly fresh and Corey Haim's performance is free of child-star smarm as he grapples with the dual loyalties of an informer. Also features a young Patricia Arquette.

3-0 out of 5 stars Unwittingly relevant
Rick King's 1991 juvenile delinquent flick unwittingly became relevant following the Columbine massacre. I don't know if it was an influence on those disturbed minds, but the Rollerboys gang wears trenchcoats and threaten the "day of the rope", when revenge will be at hand. This eerie quality aside, King's pulp teenage thriller shoots above the mark and deserves a second look.
King has made a career of making thrillers that step beyond the studio-approved formulaic scripts. In Hard Choices ('84) the director brought together the unlikely combination of John Sayles, J.T. Walsh and Spalding Gray for a satisfying low-profile crime drama. The Killing Time ('87) and A Passion to Kill ('94) are further examples of his use of psychological motivation to drive the characters beyond the scripts' pale description. In Forced March ('90) King delved deeper into his preoccupation with identity with the Hungarian production wherein an actor's life and the part he plays- a poet/victim of the holocaust- begin to blur.
Released in 1991, Prayer of the Rollerboys documents a pause in american life between the lotus eating 80's and the come-down of the 90's-- the information blitz of the internet and the no-one-is-safe fear of domestic terrorism. However, beyond the analysis, Roller Boys is simply a lot of fun. Even Pauline Kael was said to have quietly admired it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please stop the pain, but buy this film
Well well well, how do you review a film which has obviously been written and directed by a chimp. And not one of those cool rollerskate chimps who smoke cigars, but a stinky Gregory chimp. This film is amazing you have to buy it. The premise of the story revolves around a caravan that mixes stuff. Enter Haim who skates around for a bit, followed by his friends whom all wear the same horrible jackets. The jackets designed to make them look menecing and cool, look as though a blind cat nailed to a skateboard made them. This film is the best. Where else can you see Haim ( quite litrally as he is a wash out ) go around on "ultra cool in 91" roller blades trying to stop a group of mullets and their caravan. No one in this film deserves to win the day, and as the film continues you wish someone would put a stick on the floor so they all fall and break their noses. You must buy this excellent film. Much better than titanic and gladiator ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Duh, this movie isn't supposed to make sense
I read a lot of reviews of this movie and they all say pretty much the same thing, it's unintelligable, but i think that's kind of the point. The first time I saw this movie it was on TNT at 1:00 in the morning, which is the time i recommend people watch this movie if they want to get the full effect, because when you are extreamly tired, you don't care about a plot, you just say hey, that's a cool movie, which is what this movie is. There's some great visuals like sam and dave's split apartment, and plastic figures hanging from wires that are apparently suspended in mid air. You must keep an open mind when watching this movie, don't ask how sam and dave get from a bus stop bench in a dark ally to an island in the blink of an eye, just go with it...and watch out for the snake

5-0 out of 5 stars A very funny movie
This movie was a very good movie, I can not belive anyone would give it a bad review, but then again some people in this world must not have a since of humor, I belive that evey time you have Feldman and Haim paired together you are in for a very entertaning movie, and this movies proves that to be true, I would tell eveyone reading this that you to should watch this movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie's SUPPOSED to be stupid.
This movie was written with every intent to make you role your eyes and laugh. And, for me, it succeeded very well; I didn't stop laughing through the entire thing. It takes nothing seriously, especially itself (that's called a farce). It pokes fun at the film industry and itself. If you want to take a break from reality, be thoroughly entertained, and learn nothing of redeaming value, this is the perfect movie.

2-0 out of 5 stars WOW! WHAT A HORRIBLE MOVIE!
Ok, first off, I love Corey Feldman and Corey Haim, and I love movies, but I almost couldn't even finish this movie. They get fired from their job and kicked out of their apartment, so Feldman's uncle that is an ex-pirate actor magically warps them to his island to become scuba instructors, but his uncle's old on screen nemesis tries to take over the island and blah blah blah. I would like to meet the guy that wrote this script and thougth he had something special. The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because the two Corey's are in it, and both of them rule, they just got caught in a very bad movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
Not only is this a great movie, but it has Corey Feldman! Now Corey Feldman can do no wrong by me. I think every Corey fan should see this movie. And I think Corey is one of the most talented people out there and I don't care who knows it! So make fun of him all you want because to the people that really like him it doesn't matter. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
What a peice of crap. This movie is terrible. The only decent actor in it is the lady who works the proshop, who doesnt really even do anything in the movie. Terrible plot, some stuff doesnt even make sense, like the french guy and the stoner guy, both would have been better just thrown out of the movie. But I will admit that there were som really funny random jokes in there, but there were only 2 or 3 of those, and the rest was terrible. Also, whoever said the snowboard sequences were really cool, has clearly never seen a real snowboard video. It might have been alright boarding when it was originally filmed apporvimately 10 years ago, but compared to todays snowboarding its a joke. Oh yeah and who ever said jim varney is good is a numbskull. Hes the most unfunniest person Ive ever seen. In fact, I think Ronald Mcdonald commercials are funnier than these. I cant get over what a bad movie it was.

PS
The best part was when they show the snowboard go down the hill riding regular, then show him going off the jump switch. What a joke.

1-0 out of 5 stars snowboard academy
This would have to be one of the worst movies corey haim has played in. The boarding was all fake and were just stupid scenes. The comedy in this movie was pretty stupid and un comical to tell you the truth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Completely biased
I think this movie is the funniest film since 'Truimph of the Will'. Snowboard Academy has it all: teen heartthrob Corey Haim, saucy euro-wench Bridget Neilson, the multi-faceted Jim Varney and the unstoppable juggernaut of SCTV, Joe Flaherty. But the real find of this stunning film is the amazing and over the top performance by newcomer James Salisko. This man is a powerhouse of entertainment. What sly wit , what eloquence, what a brilliant and original character he has created. Such a bold and brave portrayal of the usually hackneyed stereotype of the 'fat bartender'left this viewer agape in disbeleif. We've seen a bold new force on the horizon . And it's name is James......

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Images
Honestly I bought this book becase it's about snowboarding. I wasn't expecting a great comedy (and didn't get it as a matter of fact). The actors are far from excellent and the humor leaves much to be desired, but I have to say that the snowboarding sequences are really good. Camera angles are great and I will end up watching this tape over and over just for that. If you are looking for a comedy get something else, but if you want to look at cool snowboarding filming this video is very cheap and will satisfy you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie!
This movie is so funny, the first time I saw it was laughing my head off!Jim Varny is a exellent commiedest, and any of these fine actors in here should have been given an award. ... Read more
