4-0 out of 5 stars A Blazing Saddles style parody
Steve Martin is one of the funniest actors on the planet and also one of the best comedic writers. This movie is styled somewhat after Blazing Saddles in that the characters alternate between crazy and outrageous. The plot centers around three silent film stars who are summarily canned from their studio for the audacious request of actually being paid for their work. Broke, they are sent a telegram from a small town in Mexico with what they think is a request for a personal appearance. Unfortunately, the request was not clear because the town was so poor they could not afford all the words needed in the telegram to explain they want the Amigos to rid the town of a killer bandito by the name of El Guapo. The movie is very funny, filled with bizarre characters, such as the singing bush, surreal moments, like the Amigos singing around a campfire or singing to a room full of desperados, and extremely funny conversations. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short all do good comedic turns. The only thing I do not understand is how this movie got rated R; besides the sometimes rough language, this should be a PG-13.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNIEST COMIC TRIO SINCE "THE THREE STOOGES"
I have this very funny movie in my collection. SUPERBERBLY directed by John Landis, here is an UPROARIOUS comedy about three loveable bumblers, who are way in over their heads. But come what may, they'll always remain the "THREE AMIGOS". Steve Matin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short travel a dusty road to adventure and laughter lin this ZANY mix of sharp one liners and clever sight gags. The "THREE AMIGOS" are a silent screen comedy act who have seen better days. So has a remote Mexican hamlet which is being TERRORIZED by a FIERCE bandit gang. FINALLY, in desperation, a naive villager sends the actors a telegram asking for help. [THREE AMIGOS HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA. YOU ARE VERY GREAT. 100,000 PESOS TO COME TO SANTO POCO. PUT ON SHOW. STOP. THE INFAMOUS EL GUAPO.]. THINKING they're being offered a fortune for a personal appearance, the hapless trio arrives in Mexico. ONLY TO DISCOVER that this time they're dodging REAL bullet!!!. This is a VERY FUNNY movie and I recommend to my fellow viewers to buy it and add it to their video library collection. I PERSONALLY CAN NOT WAIT FOR A SEQUEL TO BE MADE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

2-0 out of 5 stars The (Un) Magnificent Trio
The movie was produced at a time when Martin and Chase were trying to revitalize their movie careers. Martin Short was just starting to make films. THE THREE AMIGOS was supposedly a live action variation of Disney's THE THREE CABALLEROS but couldn't secure the rights and its a good thing. This is pretty much an unwatchable one joke premise film. Three soon-to-be unemployed silent screen actors whose movie screen personas are "The Three Amigos" are unknowingly hired to go to a south of the border town to get rid of a bandito (El Guapo) who is wreaking havoc to all the village townsfolk. The three arrive thinking they are to perform for the people and end up fighting the villian. Not much here as all three 'Amigos' have the same lame-brain personalities. Director Landis (ANIMAL HOUSE, THE BLUES BROTHERS) can't get much from the one-joke, not-very-original script (SNL's Lorne Michaels) and not one funny performance from either leads. There is a musical sequence reminiscent of the old singing cowboy movies that is mildly amusing (and again not very original). Otherwise, this is a very forgettable movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funniest movie of all time
The Three Amigos is the absolute funniest movie of all time. Each time you watch it you will find new things that will crack you up. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short are gods.

5-0 out of 5 stars three aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamigos!
Are you ready to laugh your socks off? If yes, get this movie and start watching it! This mix of three amazingly hilarious comedians make an outstanding team that will certainly make your stomach hurt from laughing. Chevy Chase, Martin Short, and Steve Martin play the "Three Amigos," who are out-of-work actors asked to go fight the infamous El Guapo in Mexico. Thinking that El Guapo is "more than famous" instead of horrible, they take the job. As you can probably see, this mix-up causes quite a few problems that aren't at all too serious. After seeing this movie once, you'll be wanting to see it again and again. ... Read more

Oscar was Sylvester Stallone's agreeable, 1991 effort at broad comedy, a fast-talking, suspender-snapping gangster farce featuring the Rambo star as a 1930s Chicago mob boss, Snaps Provolone, trying to go straight during overlapping personal crises. No, this isn't Billy Wilder, but director John Landis (Coming to America) has crackling fun with Oscar's fruit salad of traditional comic themes and tools, including mistaken identities, a powerful man's weakness for his children, and a nonstop parade of outre secondary characters. The cast includes Kirk Douglas as Stallone's father, whose deathbed wish compels Snaps to go into legitimate banking at the exact moment the latter's daughter (Marisa Tomei) announces her love for a chauffeur. Meanwhile, another woman claiming to be Snaps's offspring is engaged to a fellow (Vincent Spano) who has stolen $50,000 of the big man's money. Wackiness ensues. The winning cast includes Peter Riegert, Don Ameche, Chazz Palminteri, Eddie Bracken, Harry Shearer, Yvonne DeCarlo, and Bruce Davison. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great comedy from Stallone and company!
This movie is hysterical, and proves Stallone has a capacity for comedy, especially when surrounded by the stellar cast ensembled here. Stallone stars as Angelo "Snaps" Provolone (like the cheese), a gangster who promises his dying father he will turn his life around and become an honest businessman, but circumstances won't allow for it!

The entire plot takes place in Snaps' palatial home on the morning of his first day as an honest man. The cops don't believe he's trying to be honest, there is a mix-up of a little black bag of cash that keeps appearing and disappearing, Snaps trying to marry off his spoiled daughter (played by Marisa Tomei), discovering he has another daughter, being told off by his wife, having tailors (the Fenucci brothers) in and out of his house, an oily tutor for his daughter traipsing about, etc etc etc!!! Apparently, it's easier just to keep with the life of crime, but Snaps does his best to cope!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stallone Sleeper Is A Keeper!
I watched this movie 10 years ago expecting a dopey gangster parody with Sylvester "Rocky / Rambo" Stallone in a suit. What I got instead was a very funny, refreshing comedy with lots of great gags and interesting characters. Stallone is hilarious as "Snaps" Provolone, big time gangster and future banker (due to a deathbed promise to his dying father, played by Kirk Douglas). His mob (including Peter Reigert and Chazz Palminteri) are far more inept than intimidating, bumbling along with their boss in his attempt to go straight. You'll never forget the crazy bunch in OSCAR! Merissa Tomei is perfect as Snaps' daughter Lisa, the squeaky, flapper-girl wannabe. Tim Curry plays his best role since Frank N. Furter as linguistics instructor, Thornton Pool. Then there's Kurtwood Smith as the over-zealous cop, Toomey. A riot! I've seen OSCAR at least a dozen times and it still cracks me up! Deserves to be a classic...

5-0 out of 5 stars Bad Reviews. What? Did they expect Godfather?
Once again, a gem that was given horrible reviews because they were trying to kill off Sylvester Stallone. It worked. When critics gang up on a star they don't like, they can end their careers. Stallone wanted to try comedy, but the critics wouldn't have it. He was hilarious in this very underrated play-turned-movie.

If you like slapstick comedies that are based on one day, in one place such as Clue and Radioland Murders, you will love this. This isn't a mystery like those, but the confusion over everything in one morning is overwhelming to "Snaps" Provolone. And he can't even kill anybody anymore.

It's his first day of "going straight" from the gangster life of the early 30's during prohibition and people are already seemlingly taking advantage of that right away.

This is filled with hilarious dialogue and is delivered perfectly by everyone. Yes, even Stallone. And you felt so proud when Chazz was ahead of everyone else after not knowing a thing about a thing.

I see there are many Oscar fans here and that's great. Listen to them.

If you're a fan of comedy and haven't seen it because of the bad reviews, or you don't think Stallone can do comedy, just rent it and see for yourself. 10 minutes after credits, you'll purchase this DVD here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rollicking Fun
This is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. All the characters are funny, especially Dr. Pool(Played by tim Curry). The story is simple: A gangster decides to go straight. But a huge series of mix-ups occur, wreaking havoc. This is a must-see for anyone who likes comedy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!
This is a movie with a truly well-written script. Unlike a lot of the 'comdies' that are written now, which are often primarily full of idiot jokes about sex that anyone could write, this script is truly hilarious without being crude.

Stallone's performance is perfect and really makes the movie happen well: but that's not to take away from the other performances which are also excellent: my favourite other than Stallone is the character "Dr. Pool" who serves as Stallone's alucution teacher, and ends up marrying Stallone's daughter. Bad actors would have turned this script into a horrible movie, but together the strength of the script and the strength of the actors in their respective roles is excellent.

The basic plot is that when "Snaps" Provalone's (Stallone) dad is on his deathbed, he makes "Snaps" promise that he'll 'go straight' and stop being a gangster. The result? pandemonium, and this fantastic movie! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hes back!!!!
The guy with the kick (...)trycicle is back, and better than ever. Finnaly on dvd, childhood memories of one of the best kid show of all time. It was all about him in the 90's. I always loved this show as a kid, and still do and laugh when ever sometimes its on again on ABC family. In addition to this show, they should also bring back "Life with Louie". Louie Andereson was hilarious in that show. You remember the chubby kid with a wierd dad and a bike. But I guess they need to bring this show back first. I can't wait for this to come out. It should have behind the scenes. Or at least commentary. If its only the episodes thats still cool I guess.

It should be in seasons instead of volumes. That would be better. The animation in this show is histarical too. I just remember coming out from school to see a little boy in a trycicle. Join Bobby, Dad, and uncle Ted in this hilarious show about childhood.

A definate must get for all Bobby's world maniacs. It should be a pleasent suprise.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT
My son watched Bobby's World as a child and we enjoyed it right along with him. Howie is terrific as Bobby - journeying along with Bobby's imagination is quite a ride. Its a cute show for kids (my 2 and 4 year olds now watch it), although some of things you could get away with in 1990 you can no longer say in most cartoons (eg - Derek calling his brother Bobby stupid and a dweeb).

I sit and watch the episodes over and over again - especially "Swim By Me" and the song "I was at the bottom of the pool..." and I'm not one to usually do that.

Its an affordably priced, enjoyable program. I recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars I wish it had some extras!
I love Bobby's World :) For people who haven't heard of this wonderful show, it was created by Howie Mandel & is about this little kid (Bobby of course) who just does regular stuff w/ his family, but it's always more exciting to him because he has such a big imagination. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid & I was so happy when I saw the DVD in the store. I wish it was a whole season, but at least this way it's less expensive (around $10.00 usually), & there is going to be other BW DVDs coming out.

This DVD has 5 eps which are all really cute & funny, as I think every BW ep is. The eps include: 1) Uncle Ted's Excellent Adventure 2) Bobby's Tooth or Dare 3) Swim By Me 4) Fish Tales 5) Jets, Choo-Choos and Cars

The only thing wrong w/ this DVD (& the reason I only gave it 3 star) is that there are no extras whatsoever. I would've liked to know how Howie Mandel got the idea for Bobby, or they could've had maybe a behind the scenes thing showing the characters being drawn, but no, nothing like that. Also, there's no captioning. Hopefully there'll be stuff in the DVDs to follow. Other than that, the DVD's worth getting because it's very reasonably priced and this is a great show!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love me some Bobby!
This was one of my favorite cartoons back in the day. They don't make cartoons this good anymore. The only great cartoons left are Spongebob(legendary), the New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Dragonball Gt(My favorite cartoon of all time, which was made in the 80's. So trust me Bobby's world dvd is great.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great show, lame DVD.
Bobby's World has always been one of my favorite shows growing up, so i was thrilled to find out it was finally coming to DVD. Unfortunetly, this DVD is VERY poorly made.

Pros:
-5 of the best Bobby's World episodes on DVD format

Cons:
-Picture quality is that of a VHS.

-No special features.

-All Fox Kids logos have been removed.

-The Scratch 'n Sniff card is actually a joke. The smell of the card is... cardboard. Yeah, you heard right. The smell of the CARD is CARDboard. Of course, this was of no care to me, since i'm not 5, (i'm 19, actually, just reviewing it this way becuase it is quicker.) but kids are likely to buy this DVD and imagine the disappointment on their faces when their scratch and sniff card isn't really a scratch 'n sniff card at all.

Overall, kids will enjoy the DVD, but be disappointed at the DVD's false advertising. Die hards fans shouldn't expect much in the way of extras, becuase there is none.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bobby's World
Bobby's World is obtaining a cult following these days, as Bobby's World merchandise is now widely available in Hot Topic stores. But I remember the show as a kid. I'm looking forward to this DVD for nostalgia reasons. ... Read more

Too bad this theatrical paws you in from the first frame with clever characters, memorable music, and a pulled-together plot, because if you're a dyed-in-the-fur Tom and Jerry fan, your first inclination is to flee the set. Offending old-schoolers in a late-Bewitched new-Darren sense is the dialogue--not only do Tom and Jerry speak, they're talking to each other. Worse, the former combatants cultivate a camaraderie. Instead of clobbering each other with mallets, the cat and mouse duo dig in, together, to rescue a runaway. Returning Robyn to her dad requires outfoxing Aunt Figg, the girl's money-grubbing guardian, and a cadre of scheming animal and kid catchers. A little tail-twitching mousetrap action toward the end is the tender vittle tossed to the old crowd in what's otherwise a declawed but undeniably entertaining chase-a-thon. Put it on for kids 4 and up and help forge a kinder, gentler Tom and Jerry generation. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Belushi and Akroyd's Best
Wow, this is the funniest movie I've ever seen. Every time you watch you catch something new. Great musical themes, great insanity. This movie has so many funny lines you have to watch it again and again. "...and if I didn't have to do this sh** for a living, I wouldn't sell you my snot."

Begs for a full-featured DVD. Please.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Champion of Hollywood Studio Avant-Garde
A great atmosphere movie for any Friday night, "Neighbors" is still as funny and bizarre now as it was when released. This is a wonderful companion to films such as Scorsese's "After Hours" or Dante's "The `Burbs." An often over-looked film, "Neighbors" is a brilliant symbiosis of the comedy and thriller genre.

Earl Keese is an unimaginative Walter Mitty stuck in boring suburbia. After Captain Vic and Empress Ramona move next door, Earl begins on a 24-hour journey to save his soul -- to be released from the stagnant swamp of dead-end living -- and 9-5 working. Both Belushi and Aykroyd expand their comedy by switching their normally stereotyped roles. Oscar-Nominated (Raging Bull) Cathy Moriarty also turns in a great performance as the temptress Ramona.

The swamp scene behind Earl's house is a powerful and mythic metaphor of Earl being "sucked down" by outside forces. It's also where he becomes baptized into a "new world" where he will reign. The Gelbart script (heavily rewritten by Belushi and Aykroyd during the Writer's Guild Strike) follows many of the Joseph Campbell tests and trials of the mythic hero. In addition to story, the film also boasts some fast, screwball comedy dialogue. Here's one of the witty exchanges in the post-modern Robert Riskin vein:

Vic: We're waiting, or do I have to pound it out of you?

Earl Keese: Don't ever speak to me like that in my own house!

Vic: Why would I?

Earl Keese: You just did.

Vic: I didn't mean anything -- it's just something a guy says.

Earl Keese: I never say it.

Vic: I don't blame you.

Experience "Neighbors" with some spaghetti from Caesar's Garlic Wars, a small spaghetti and wine dealership at Valley Field Mall on Route 3, next to the Cinema-Cineplex and the Singer Sewing Center.

Oh, and for breakfast the next morning, tell your loved one: "I hope you like blueberry pancakes and little baby sausages --'cause that's what yer getting'!"

4-0 out of 5 stars Neighbors
This is a really funny dark comedy. The last movie John Belushi made, and maybe his best.Based on the book by Thomas Berger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chaotic Comic Masterpiece
I love this movie. It was one of my all time favorite comedies. It isn't for everyone but if you like dark humor and the teaming of Akroyd and Belushi then this is a must see flick. The script is brilliant and the acting by Belushi in particular is top notch. There is a lot going on in this film.Very well directed and shot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strange but Good!
I'm a fan of both John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd so I wached this movie and it was like nothing I had ever seen before. It was a very strange movie but I liked it and I have read that a lot of critics didn't think it was a good idea that John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd decided to trade characters with John playing the roll that was written for Dan and vise versa, I actually thought it was wonderful and and highly entertaining and Belushi was great as his character Earl and Aykroyd was a riot in his over the top performance as his creepy neighbor Vic! I would recommend this movie to every fan of Belushi, Aykroyd and SNL and I hope that this movie gets released onto a DVD, in widecreen and with extra features! After I watched the movie I found out that it was based on a book so I went to a bookstore and bought the book Neighbors by Thomas Berger and it was good and I noticed that the movie was pretty faithful to it. ...
