Directed by Sidney Lumet (Serpico) and penned by Joel Schumacher (Batman and Robin), this lavish 1978 adaptation of the Broadway hit The Wiz was the biggest production filmed in New York City up to that point, utilizing the newly revamped Astoria Studios and locations around the city. Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, and Ted Ross (reprising his Tony-winning role as the Lion) star in this Academy Award-nominated musical for the whole family.

The Wiz is probably the grandest take on L. Frank Baum's classictale The Wizard of Oz.Theproduction team created sets with a sense of urban magic and spectacle: a New York subway station literally comes to life, and the massive plaza between the World Trade Center towers is transformed into the Emerald City, featuring nearly 400 dancers with three costume changes. Like all good musicals, the Quincy Jones arrangements are highly hummable long after viewing (especially the funky "Ease On Down the Road" and the inspirational "Brand New Day"). In an era before MTV, the camera stays nearly stationary as Ross and Lena Horne vocally soar through their numbers. Their stage-like performances successfully make the leap to film, making The Wiz a testament to their singing talents and star presence. The then-thirtysomething Ross raised some eyebrows playing the traditionally teenaged Dorothy, but she and her supporting cast (including Richard Pryor as the Wiz) carry the tunes with an infectious verve that will appeal to folks of all ages. --Shannon Gee ... 3-0 out of 5 stars What Can I Say.....
Oh boy, where to start? This seems to be one of those movies where you either hate it or love it. This update of The Wizard of Oz, while for years vilified, has seemed to have gathered a cult classic-like following in recent years. It bears little resemblance to the 1939 Judy Garland masterpiece, or even for that matter, to the Broadway musical upon which it was based. The original musical was light and entertaining, inspirational and fun. This 1978 motion picture is a pretentious adaptation tht simply tries too hard. the film-makers turned the simplistic story of a young girl lost in a strange land into an overly glitzy, glamorous, and gaudy film. Despite this, there are some awesome moments in this movie, most notably: the stunning New York City visuals, great performances by Mabel King as the Wicked Witch and Ted Ross as the Cowardly Lion, wonderful music, and impressive and incredibly choreographed dances. However even that can't save the movie. It still manages to fall flat, not living up to the promise, vision, or scope of the simple story upon which it is based.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Fun
Boo, hiss to all the naysayers of the one and only 'Wiz'. A few of my friends got together at the DVD store the other night and out of all the available titles settled on this one, primarily for nostaligic reasons. Once we got home and popped it in, well, it was more than just simple sentimentality that carried us off to another world. This musical is awesome. The story is timeless, the songs are unforgettable and the widescreen transfer is excellent. One only wishes for more goodies on the disc.

I often scratch my head at why Sidney Lumet directed this, but knowing that he is one of the top five directors ever who understands New York City, it now makes perfect sense. The location shots are amazing, especially with the massive Albert Whitlock visuals. And as hard as it may be to watch Diana Ross play a 24 year old single woman, she achieves it with simple gestures and that pure, honey voice.

It's a huge treat to watch this movie and I look forward to repeat viewings.

3-0 out of 5 stars THE WIZ....HAS SOUL!!!
The Wiz music will always be a classic. This is my only reason for buying this movie. It was definetly a 70's show. I was confused about certain scenes in the movie. For example, why did Aunt Em start singing "The Feeling We Once Had" to her daughter instead of Dorothy. And how did the Scarecrow know to signal Dorothy to destroy Evilene. The choreography and the music was great. Good for children to see!

5-0 out of 5 stars BLACK PEOPLE, BUY THIS FOR YOUR KIDS!!!!
A MUST for every black child to see!! This is OUR classic production. Many great actors/actresses were young budding talents when they performed in the Wiz. It's great to see them then & know them now. My kids enjoyed the music & loved the dancing.

3-0 out of 5 stars You should see the Whiz all over my tape!
this movie was okay, but all admit it was a disapointment. lookit dorothy with this afro, and this obese aunt em, god! you people have distoryed this tape! well hey the lion-- is lioney, the scarecrow dosen't sound like a girl and the tin mans chipper. except for the fact that they had good songs, and singers and all that other junk. the effects were sort of lacking, but hey-- it is not bad. its okay, but it is not that great, seriously people. this 3 star rating suits it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An essential collection!
This is a review of the VHS video "Michael Jackson: Video Greatest Hits HIStory" Vol. 1. Whether or not you are a fan of Michael Jackson, this is an essential video because it shows how good music videos can be. BILLIE JEAN is a striking video that broke down color barriers on MTV; THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL has a loose improvisational feeling to it which makes it fun to watch; BLACK OR WHITE is modern masterpiece complete with morphing and the controversial "panther dance" sequence. In the original version of this video, Michael smashes in a car windshield that has racist grafitti on it... he is fighting back against the racism. However, in the version included on this tape, the grafitti is edited out, so we just see Michael smashing a window for no apparent reason. Even so, the video is still an amazing experience! ROCK WITH YOU takes us back to 1980 before Michael's plastic surgery; BAD and BEAT IT include some of the best choreography even seen in music videos, although the version of BAD on this tape is the short version, not the full version with Wesley Snipes. This tape also includes the videos for Thriller, Remember The Time, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and Heal The World in their entirety. This video is a powerful mix of music, dance, and film. Even if you don't think Michael is the King of Pop, this collection proves he is the King of VIDEO!

5-0 out of 5 stars Michael Jackson - Video Greatest Hits - HIStory on Film
This spectacular compilation of Michael Jackson's music videos is a must-see for all MJ fans, and anyone else who enjoys good music and dancing. This tape includes the videos:

-Billie Jean -The Way You Make Me Feel -Black or White* -Rock with You -Bad (shortened version without Wesley Snipes) -Thriller (entire video with credits) -Beat It -Remember the Time -Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough -Heal The World

This is a great video that shows not only the evolution of Michael Jackson's music, but also that of his appearance. Co-stars include Eddie Murphy, Iman, Magic Johnson, McAuley Culkin, Bart and Homer Simpson, and others. An exceptional video!!! *In the video Black or White, Michael appears to be furiously smashing the windows of a car for no reason. In the original, racist graffiti is painted on the windows. This was edited out in this version. Relax, Michael is not crazy. Or at least not that crazy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Video HIStory
Don't just listen to the album, watch the videos! However there are fewer songs in this package than the audio counterpart. We see videos for hits from OFF THE WALL,THRILLER,BAD,DANGEROUS and of course, the audio counterpart of HISTORY. No fan of the King Of Pop should be without this unless he/she chooses not to.

3-0 out of 5 stars Big fan here but this is a disappointment....
Honestly, I love Michael Jackson's music and have purchased History 2 on VHS (the gold box) and Dangerous: The Short Films before I got this. I was excited because I thought I would see some things different on this DVD, but it's all the same! You're better off purchasing Dangerous: The Short Films or History 2 because most of the same material on this video is on the others, and the others have some new added footage.

Like Schoolhouse Rock, Marlo Thomas's 1970s children'sTV show, Free to Be… You and Me met with immediate success andbecame a treasured piece of entertainment over the years. Based on heraward-winning album of songs, skits, and comedy, Free to Beexplores the infinite possibilities of childhood. Fans know most of theskits in the 45-minute show verbatim, and it's easy to see why rightfrom the beginning with an infectious title track followed by a puppetsketch featuring Thomas and Mel Brooks as newborns. Top talent appearson both sides of the camera, including Alan Alda who directs andperforms a cartoon about a boy who wants a doll. However, thepresentation does show its age at times: a teenage Michael Jacksonsinging (with Roberta Flack) on how he's not going to change when hegrows up. For all ages. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Every child, adult, and in-between should see this video!
I recently became obsessed with this movie. I'd seen it in pre-school and somehow remembered the songs, stories, and humorous skits up through college. And I'm not alone! Others like me are frantically searching for this piece of their childhood, perhaps the only video to REALLY say to kids, "Just be yourself." A football player tells boys it's okay to cry, a fairy-tale tells girls they don't have to get married, and Mel Brooks and Marlo Thomas approach subjects like gender roles and childcare in four skits that can have even grown-ups laughing out loud. Though the song featuring a young Michael Jackson singing "We don't have to change at all" is extremely ironic and more than a little sad, the video is a fun experience overall. The book and soundtrack are also both wonderful tools to have in raising open-minded children, but I must admit that as cheesy as it sounds, it's the movie that really helped shape my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly creative musical celebration of human diversity.
Through stories and song, actors and cartoon characters, this 1974 production encourages children to respect and appreciate diversity in gender, race and various ages without resorting to stereotypes. This lighthearted celebration of being human was timely and unique when it was first released and it continues to have value as well as appeal for children of all ages. My children loved it and wore out the first recording we owned; now their children "know it by heart." Free to Be You and Me has been an excellent tool for introducing and reinforcing positive attitudes about their peers for students in my multicultural second grade class. Happily, the stories and music are still available in print and on tape and CD, but only on the video is it possible to see Rosie Greer singing "It's Allright to Cry" or to see the teenaged Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin singing "When I Grow Up."

5-0 out of 5 stars Good movie with a ton of 70's values
I watched this movie when I was little back in the 70's. My sister watched it in the late 80's, and now my kids watch it too. The talking babies are ADORABLE! (my kids love them!) and there's a part about not saying "ladies first" all the time, a part about women can do any job they like, and a part about a boy who wants a doll. It's great stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who can forget Jennifer Joy and Zachary Zugg? : D
I enjoyed the Helping Song throughout the years. Found it in a Shel Silverstein book and realized they put to music his poem.

William Wants a Doll bravely explores gender issues in a way that is honest and entertaining.

Helping
Agatha Fry, she made a pie,
And Christopher John helped bake it.
Christopher John he mowed the lawn,
And Agatha Fry helped rake it.
Zachary Zugg took out the rug,
And Jennifer Joy helped shake it.
And Jennifer Joy she made a toy,
And Zachary Zugg helped break it.

And some kind of help
Is the kind of help
That helping's all about.
And some kind of help
Is the kind of help
We all can do without.

~Shel Silverstein in 'Where the Sidewalk Ends'
and put to music in Free to Be You and Me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Since I was 5 Years Old ! back in 1972
This movie was one of earliest memories of kindergarden. I loved this movie after only seeing it once. However, ever since then I have been trying and trying to see it again. Every year since I turned 18 I have asked if it was out on VHS or DVD. Finally, Amazon had it! Thanks.
This movie brought me so much in the way I live my life. To love others, to respect others - but most of all Respect and Love myself!!
My most memoriable scene is the baby scene with Mel Brooks and Marlo Thomas "are you a girl baby or a boy baby" - making me realize that it did not matter when it came to friends or coworkers.
People make such a big deal that Michael Jackson is in this - I really never remembered this fact. But I did remember Rosie Grier and that made it more memoriable later in life when I learned he knits and when I actually met this remarkable man.
My Dog is A Plumber made me realize as a child that poety can be fun. Even though this was never my strong point nor my field in life, I still appreciate poety to this day because of this first little poem.
And finally, Parents are People allowed me to realize at an ealy age that my parents could make mistakes. This allowed me to get mad at them without hating them when they punished me. Which has (hopefully) made me a better adult in society.

Thank you Marlo, each person and voice in the movie, and thank you Amazon! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Collection
While Jackson's ego as the "King of Pop" has folded over recent years, his legacy lives in this compilation of his videos and performances. With the advent of DVD, Jackson's fans will get to see and hear the great quality of his performances and music finally. Two videos on this compilation are worth seeing. The first, "Liberian Girl," is a beautiful ballad, and the celebrity-filled video is one of Jacko's rarely seen videos. The other, "Scream," which was the most expensive video ever made has Michael and his sister, Janet, in a futuristic spaceship setting, that was beautifully directed by Music Video guru Mark Romanek (Madonna's "Bedtime Story" was also his work). Forget the scandals and his wierd habits, and buy this coolection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Video HIStory,volume 2
This package was released sometime after the 1997 release of Michael Jackson's BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR album. There is a video for BOTDF in this package. I just love SCREAM. That video features MJ's sister Janet, who's freaky like her brother. Take note of two censorships when the video is seen on MTV or VH1. The second word of the quoted line in SCREAM that goes "stop f---ing with me" is muted and also during that,Janet "flips the digit" which is blurred. Sorry, they're just following FCC regulations. No MJ fan should be without this package unless he/she chooses not to.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing music video
this is highly recommended for fans of mj and also nonfans who enjoy his music. It's all that and a bag of chips. This video came out when I was 14, but it wasn't until 3 years later I ended up buying it and it was well worth it.

It starts out with the now infamous trailer with mj as the statue on the HIStory cover, which leads the mj's groundbreaking performance of billie jean on the motown 25th special, the time he premiered the moonwalk. A definining moment in pop culture that is, and this is followed by the music video for beat it. Next up is the rare release of the liberian girl video which was an overseas hit in 1989 and features tons of celebrites such as quincy jones, weird al, paula abdul etc. and then the brilliant smooth criminal with it's amazing dance sequences, and yet another mj video moment, the lean. 1995 MTV video music awards performance is next, it's a medley of songs such as don't stop till you get enough, the way you make me feel, scream, beat it, black or white, billie jean, dangerous, smooth criminal and you are not alone. Next up is the music video which is considered the best video of all time, thriller. Followed by that is scream, a duet with sister janet and the most expensive video ever. This video set a blueprint for futuristic music videos the same way as previous videos have. Childhood is a sweet song, but I could do without the video. You Are Not Alone is also on here, but it is different from the version that used to air on tv. Earth Song is a touching masterpiece that is bound to make you shed tears. The song alone stands on it's own as a masterpiece, but the video is like the icing to the cake in a way. They Don't Care About Us the brazil version is very bright, very colourful and very rhythmic. Stranger is moscow is a calming masterpiece with a black and white video, beautiful videography here. If you buy the VHS, there is an mj megamix music video that mixes up his classic hits and shows different clips from videos and performances, you won't find this on the DVD. Last but not least, the remix video of blood on the dancefloor is at the end before ending with the brace yourself clip, a montage of Bad tour footage mixed with some victory tour footage. It is definitely worth your money and a timeless classic that is bound to forever live on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best, baby!!!
As we all know, Michael Jackson is the KING OF POP! This number-one film was in the Guiness book of World Records as the highest selling music video on '94!! Containing never-before-seen footage, behind the scenes action, unreleased videos, and all are full-length. This price is also a bargain. Pick it up even if you're not a die-hard. It is so worth it!! Dangerous is one of MJ's greatest albums with some record-breaking fantastic music videos! "The Short Films" contains: The Teaser (you have to see it!!), the controversial full lentgh Black or White (complete with The Simpsons ending and the face morphing and dance sequence), The Superbowl Heal The World performance (excellent), Remember The Time (starring Iman, Eddie Murphy, and Magic Johnson), also has behind the scenes (great dancing!!), Will You Be There, In The Closet (with Naiomi Campbell- the best MJ video ever!!)(with behind the scenes action also,) Gone too Soon, (A tragic remembrance of AIDS victim Ryan White), Jam (a awesome video with Michael Jordan, Kris Kross, and Heavy D.), Heal The World (donate to the foundation! It's a worthy cause!!), Give In To Me (featuring Slash from Guns n' Roses), Who Is It (such a great beat!!) and last but not least, concert footage to the Dangerous Tour. This movie is something. You have got to see it. The album is legendary, the beats are ear-piercing and jammin'!! All of these perfect music videos have such a story to tell. Michael Jackson is the KING OF POP!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Dangerous DVD
Michael has so much talent. Good album and good VHS. I just descovered this page on amazon and I hope that a DVD version will be avaliable. I am writing the first review so hopefully I can get a certificate so I can get it as soon as possible. The DVD should contain the same stuff that the VHS one contains (maybe the publishers may put in more features) The video (and assumingly the DVD as well) contains all but 3 songs from the DANGEROUS album (I Can't Let Her Get Away, She Drives Me Wild, & Keep The Faith).

The Video and most likely the DVD contains the full videos of:

-Black or White (controversy, plus making of)

-Remember The Time (behind scenes)

-Jam (behind scenes Michael Jordan comentary)

-In The Closet (an awesome MJ song and video, plus behind scenes)

-Heal the World (two times, super bowl performance and the video)

-Will You Be There (the complete and non-Free Willy version)

-Gone Too Soon (about that kid with AIDS that everyone forgot about)

-Dangerous (played while showing us snip shots from ihs concert world tour)

-Why You Wanna Trip On Me (played durring the credits)

-Give Into Me (Michael knows good rock with Slash)

-Who Is It (done by the director of FIGHT CLUB, excellent beat)

-(Bonus stuff) of 2 awards and a pretty deep speech from Michael and a little Michael singing with Michael "I'll Be There"

Lets hope this wish of having avaliable this long awaited DVD comes true and we may get it. Michael still has fans in the USA, so let them have their DVD!

The audio counterpart of this package was on hit parade from its release in the fall of 1991 to early 1993. HEAL THE WORLD is very similar to WE ARE THE WORLD,recorded in 1985 by MJ and about 40 other American artists as USA FOR AFRICA. In fact MJ penned WATW with ex-Commodore Lionel Richie(Richie was another participant). WILL YOU BE THERE features clips from the 1993 Warner Bros. film FREE WILLY. That song was the film's theme. BLACK OR WHITE features MJ's actor pal MacCaulay Culkin. JAM is an ode to basketball players. REMEMBER THE TIME is awesome. Hollywood great Eddie Murphy plays a pharoah in a castle. All the other videos are 100% awesome!

10. Dirty Diana
11. Black or White (includes Macaulay Culkin segment but excludes panther segment)
12. You Are Not Alone
13. Earth Song
14. Blood On The Dance Floor (re-edited version)
15. You Rock My World (excludes beginning few minutes)

The very basic packaging tells you that this is a no frills DVD. Many of MJ's best videos are presented and that is all you get. No fancy menu or insert. No live performances, interviews, commercials or still gallery. Nothing. Not even a discography. This doesn't cut it in this day and age of DVD. The videos are great, but this is hardly a difinitive collection. Expecially since all of these (save "You Rock My World") are already available on other discs. And why do video collections keep getting released with shortened or re-edited videos? We want the FULL original video ok! Is that too much to ask?

It's hard to go wrong with an MJ music video and these are all great. But this DVD could have (and should have) been definitie. Instead it's just yet another collection of videos collectors already have.

3-0 out of 5 stars KING OF POP DOES IT AGAIN!
"Number Ones" was good but lacked a little in being creative. "HIStory on Film vol II" was incredible and so was "Dangerous the Short Films." However on this one there are no special live performances, commercials, or interviews. Compared to the rest of the DVD world it was just missing a few things. Plus you don't get the 14 minute video of "You Rock My World", the long unedited version of "Black or White", and I don't like the fast paced version "Smooth Criminal." If you are a big fan or would like to see some of his newer videos I would buy this DVD. Although if you want a good DVD on Michael Jackson I would purchase "HIStory on Film vol II." I only bought it so I could get the last two videos and have easy access to each video instead of fast forwarding to them on the tapes I already own

2-0 out of 5 stars That's it??
First of all, where's Smooth Criminal? The best of all MJ's videos was disfigured, distorted, ripped off... I just bought the DVD because of that masterpiece of magical dancing! It was just a simple thing to do: getting that part out of the Moonwalker movie and injecting into this DVD! What have they done?!! Second, why not all the videos? Should we still depend on VHS old rags? Third, if not all the videos, at least the best ones, right? So where's "Ghost"? That is a masterpiece! Where's "Another Part of Me"? That one is also amazing. They even play it on a huge screen in Disneyland. Where's the final part of "Black or White" (the one he changes into a panther and dances in a dark street)? At least five minutes were cut out!! That's why it deserves only two stars. We, old fans, deserved a little more.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Rock My World Is Pure Genius
I watched this DVD three or four times before I was able to put it away. It hooks you as Michael pulls his audience into his performance! I enjoyed all the videos even from the beginning in "Don't Stop till You Get Enough" with all the big sparkling glass balls flying above his head, behind his back and rolling along the stage. Then when I watched "You Rock My World" I thought to myself, this video is pure genius. Only Michael Jackson could create such an entertaining video with an exciting beginning, middle and end, a love story - in the middle of a mob nightclub. He falls for the girl of a gangster and to steal her away, he rocks the place with his song and dance moves. He brings the house down with three other dancers. If you have everything he owns, you'll still want this DVD. I read the other reviews about the cuts in some of the videos, but so what. This is the King of Pop and for the $13.00 I paid for this DVD, I would pay three times that just for "You Rock My World." Michael have some of his best dances moves in this video and he does it with grace and style, looking cool as usual. He is the only performer that I have watched perform that can dance like there's no bones in his body while never breaking a sweat.

3-0 out of 5 stars michael has came a long way...
everyone should know that but this dvd is more like vhs.(No special features)Personally, coming for me,Michael has never had a perfect dvd apart from his 'dangerous:short films',which,if you are a fan you need to pick it up!! It has always touched me about Michael's dvds on why they were never that excellent. This dvd only lasts for 91 mins unfortunately - what happened to those longer short films.Nevertheless,I enjoyed it quite a bit - but i'd pick up Dangerous the short films.

Thumbs Up #1: Full-length thriller video!!!!! You Can't forget this fantastic film on!!!

Thumbs Down #1: I'll begin by saying there are ALOT of thumbs down... The Smooth Criminal video is crap.It puts it in slow motion so it looks dull and boring... Smooth Criminal video is taking from the film 'Moonwalker'.

Thumbs Down #2: They Cut Bad

Thumbs Down #3: Black Or White

Thumbs Down #4: You Rock My World

Thumbs Down #5: And...The Way You Make Me Feel

Thumbs Down #6: Referring back to Thumbs Down #1,The Rock With You Video is nothing much either.Michael dancing infront of flashing lights in a black jacket...

Thumbs Down #7: Saying it again - NO SPECIAL FEATURES !!!!!!

Despite this,I give it credit because it's Michael.Check out JANET's 'Design of a decade 86-96' dvd, which wasn't released that long ago.

Buy Only,if you are a diehard fan. ... Read more

Michael Jackson: The One is a persuasive summary of the Gloved One's career highlights. Jackson appears only in old clips, but the case for his status as an innovative and dominant artist in the 1980s and early '90s is made by an impressive array of witnesses: Beyonce Knowles, Isaac Hayes, Dick Clark, Wyclef Jean, Missy Elliot, and others. Clark recalls meeting child-star Michael and realizing hehad a natural drive to be in charge, underscored by Jackson's decision to push "Ben" (technically a ballad sung to a rat from the movie Ben) as a single.Quincy Jones talks about partnering with Jackson despite objections by the Epic record label; his tale of a superhuman push to mix Thriller in 24 hours is fascinating. Also discussed is Jackson's pivotal appearance on the Motown 25 TV special, and his penchant for musical and stylish re-invention on Bad and subsequent albums and tours. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Michael 'Genius' Jackson
How can something with the name 'Michael Jackson' on the front not be fantastic?! Its the best dvd ever for fans - the cover is great! If your not a fan - you surely will be after watching this, everyone praises Michael Jackson because he is a true genius and 1000% Innocent. The only thing he is guilty of is being a Legend!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For Your DVD Collection
A few months ago when I watched that wonderful Number Ones TV Special program, I became greatly attacted by those wonderful words spoken by those Pop celebrities as well as those amazing footage of videos and live performance! Michael Jackson is truely the greatest, forever and for always!

I Strongly wish all his videos appeared in 1980s could be released as DVD format!

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
first of all, let me just make it clear that I'm a huge fan and supporter of michael jackson, but this DVD was not worth my money, because I already have it taped from when it aired on CBS. This DVD cut out a little bit of parts that were shown on CBS, but not on this. And there is no Wanna Be Starting Something video on this, I don't know what one of the previous reviewers is talking about. By the way, the special is completely amazing, the version on CBS anyways, I really needed to watch something like this during this hard time in michael's life. The only thing missing was more intense footage from the Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible eras, those eras were equally as good as the previous 3. Michael Jackson is a legend and will continue making great music in the future I hope.

1-0 out of 5 stars I got SHMOOPED!
I'm gonna be the a$$hole here and bring people back down to earth. If anyone had seen the wonderfull HBO special, "Michael Jackson: the Legend Continues," they would know this disc is a complete piece of $hit. Dont get me wrong. I'm a huge MJ fan but this DVD reeked of advertisments. It was nagging at me the whole time. Basically, MJ's "Ones", a greatest hits cd came out, and they decided to promote it thru this DVD, a stupid move because anyone who buys this DVD probably has purchased, "Ones," anyway. The ads were almost as rediculas as the History DVD's "Brace Yourself" when the white letters spelling "DANGEROUS" came flahing across the screen a billion times, during the montouge sequence. The only redeeming parts of this dvd are a live early 80's jackson's performance, and rare photos. Other than that, I just feel sort of weirded out. Oh, by the way, in her interview, Missy Elliot is high as a kite.

5-0 out of 5 stars on point DVD
as a Artist Michael Jackson is Truly One of the Greatest Musical Forces Ever.to this day I've never seen anything like "MICHAELMANIA"&I doubt I ever will again.this DVD traces MJ back to His Musical Roots&Leads up to His Adult Career. His Music is timeless&His Impact will be felt for many years to come as a Creative Genius.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great insight, but kinda dull.
This Jackson bio was an ametuerish affair, but it had its momoents. Photos I had never seen before of the Jacksons poped up, and a snippet of an interview with a teenage jackson was awesome. I liked that they actually talked about Captian Eo, which was my favorite ride in Disney World. Special insight from real studio people make this worth watching. For a better jackson bio, try to find a copy of Michael Jackson:the Legend Continues. Thats a showtime special made around the time of Bad thats all positive and reminds me of the good ol days.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRID
I'm a huge MJ fan, but this DVD is a COMPLETE waste of $$$. It's full of commentries, hardly any shots of MJ himself. BORING too.

1-0 out of 5 stars No original music
Avoid at all costs! It's got no music from the Jacksons or MJ himself. Lousy, amateurish camera work. Insipid hip-hop soundtrack. Not worth a dime!

4-0 out of 5 stars Most positive documentary on Michael I've ever seen!!
Hi all...

I just wanted to share my opinion on the DVD release 'Michael Jackson: A Remarkable Life'...

-running time: 01:08:23 (Europe version, I don't know about the US version)
-warning: The DVD doesn't contain music or performances by Michael Jackson.

However, I have to say that this documentary is probably the most positive I've ever seen about Michael Jackson. The words 'nose', 'elephant man's bones', 'child abuse', 'oxygen chamber' or 'surgery' (just to name a few out of the many notorious cliché's) do not show up even ONCE... (which is extraordinary and pretty desirable in my opinion!). It's mainly people close to Michael (in the past AND present) who tell about their experiences of working with him. They talk about the way he does things, there are some funny anecdotes and they're all really positive and all praise him for the way he works and creates.
The DVD overlaps the era's from the early 'Steeltown' beginning and Michael's birth in Gary up 'til the Invincible era. It's a 2003 production so it's kind of up-to-date.
Special thanks in the end credits of this British production go out to: Samm Brown III, Patrick Chen, Matt Forger, Smith Wordes, Paul Knotter, Nick Brandt, William Brandt Jr., Antonio J. Bryant, Robert D. Bryant, Allen Sides, Bill Bottrell, Uri Geller and Paul Madley. Most of these were interviewed as well!
Interesting inside look of Mr. music composer/creator/singer himself, aka Michael Jackson. Worth having a look at and a must-have for fans! Although fans probably won't hear too much they've never heard before it's still worth purchasing. I don't know about the prices worldwide but the price I paid at 'Fame' Music Store in Amsterdam was € 19,99.

I hope my review will be helpful to all of you who are interested in this new 'Chrome Dreams' release.

Take care!

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful.
You know those movies that you saw when you were a kid and you still get the same thrill when you see it, no matter how old are you are? Moonwalker is one of those movies. Michael Jackson is the O.G. and this movie is tripped out in a good way. It starts off with his famous Pepsi commerical and from there it takes off to his live performance of 'Man in the Mirror.' Now I don't care how callous you are internally this music video will make the coldest gangsta cry, haha. After this video there are some highlights of his career from the Jackson 5 to present. I never heard a kid (Michael Jackson) sing 'Who's Loving You' so good yo. There are some short clips of his famous music videos after this, and then the full length video of Bad, which was fun to watch. This film has alot of twists which I won't give away on this review. Let's just say this vhs is a fun fantasy ride that will stretch your imagination guaranteed. The actual movie doesn't start until about thirty minutes or so into the film, right after the 'Leave Me Alone' full length video. Another reason why I like this film is because the antagonist is played by none other than Joe Pesci, who is a big hollywood name of course. The scenes where his troops are hunting M.J. down at night will have you on edge. I recommend this film to Michael Jackson fans and anyone who wants to enjoy a fun movie with a nice plot and plenty of twists.

5-0 out of 5 stars soooo amazing
I love this movie so much. I always loved michael and was a fan, but when I first saw this 4 years ago on vh1, I loved him more than ever! He is so talented, so amazing onstage and a great humanitarian with a vision to heal the world. The special effects are mindblowing and the dancing is off the hook. And as a bonus, michael sure looks hot, especially during come together when he rips off that shirt! Also Bad is my favourite mj era and album ever though I love all his work. I have young family members who enjoy this video, I'm in my 20's and I still enjoy it too. This is recommended to all families, it shows mj's true colours as a pure, loving soul with a gift for music and humanity. In other words, don't believe the speculation in the media...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest
This is one of the two greatest music video compilations I've ever seen since I started to enjoy the Western Pop music. Another one is certainly "Making Of Thriller". However it's so strange that the damned SONY doesn't yet have the intention even today to release these two as DVD format! If somebody tells me there are no more requests for these "old" videos among Michael's fans or any music lovers, it's not the truth. I just hope someone can give me a reason!

3-0 out of 5 stars One big tease to anyone who's STILL a MJ fan!
Man in the mirror is the only reason why I brought the video. Then to see him in concert... that was disappointing. Then I just seen clips of some of his greatest songs ever made. The video is a big tease to the imagination to those who will love to see, what Michael Jackson really was before he got himself caught up in all this trouble. I really regrett buying this. The best part of it is, Just leave me alone. Which I will do this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars "An Introspective Look at "Michael Mania" during the '80's"
This video cassette was released about 15 years ago, but it still proves to be one of the best music video compilations ever. It was released way back in 1988, when the album "BAD", was taking the market by storm, and "Michael Jackson", was at the height of his powers. If you enjoyed the "BAD" album, along with "Thriller" and Michael's output with "The Jacksons", then this VHS is for you. "Man in the Mirror", "Bad", "Speed Demon", "Leave Me Alone", and "Smooth Criminal" represent material off of "BAD (1987)." While a medley of "Billie Jean", "Human Nature", "Thriller", "Say, Say, Say" and "Beat It" represent The 1983 "Thriller Hey Day."
You also get some snippets of the songs "State of Shock (1984)", "We Are The World (1985)", and "Dirty Diana (1988)", which are unavailable on any "Michael Jackson" video release, past or present. The special effects on "Smooth Criminal", "Speed Demon", and "Leave Me Alone" are phenominal, and rank up their with "Thriller", "Black or White", and "Ghosts." Too bad no live performance footage from the "BAD World Tour 1987-1989" was included, but what's here is golden. Hopefully this VHS will be remastered for a DVD re-release some time soon. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars if this movie had any actors it might have been better
this is such a poor movie don't even waste your time thinking about renting it.If you do rent it you might have to kill yourself later. It had so many cheesey CG effects it could have been made better by a 13 year old boy on his home pc.All of the parody references in this stinker are pure crap... I hope that they prevent a future movie like this from being filmed... If you do see this movie you will never get that time back in your life, just don't do it man!!!
