4-0 out of 5 stars Disney's Pocahontas Gold Collection DVD
Pocahontas is a good tale that deserves to have the Disney name. While far from the most entertaining in the Disney library, this one does have some of the most spectacular animation and imagery then any of them! The film is definatley not for the very young, there is much war violence (superficial, yes, but it's still there), including some blood-free shot wounds. The story is much more mature oriented, with Pocahontas trying to end the war between her people and the white-men for the sake of her love for John Smith.

The film has many songs, but only a few stand out - -Oscar Award Winner "Colors Of The Wind" is one of them, "Around the River Bend", and "If I Never Knew You" is the other - - the rest are catchy, but unmemorable numbers.

The "Gold Classic Collection" DVD edition of the 1995 film, has a mediocre picture. There is constant grain, and it is rarely perfectly clear. On the plus side, the animation is still able to be appreciated and the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is good.

Again, this is NOT the Disney movie to show little kids (it would probably be a complete fly-by for them), but it does have much appeal to an older audience who can appreciate the animation, and the Oscar- winning music. A true modern masterpiece.

3-0 out of 5 stars POCAHONTAS DVD REVIEW: What happened to the video???
I suppose this movie has a more meaning for me due to a past romance and the this to be the movie we shared, so I enjoyed it. Sure, Disney knows how to take some part of history and make it so fictional but one of the things I like about this movie is the detail they put into Pocahontas facial expressions. That feature always caught me.

Anyway, you either like the animation or you don't. The audio is very well done. No major sound effects but the music and the dialogue is the main things for this film. What about the video? The video is a shock. Where Tarzan bursts with a radiance of colors, not Pocahontas. What happened during the transfer? It's like a transfer from a video tape seen 10 times before. Not acceptable with a DVD! I can't believe the colors aren't superb.

Extras...well, I guess after the fans were upset that Disney didn't include any extras in their previous releases, now they are with their "Gold Collections". I like how the DVD has the two music videos especially "Colors of the Wind" by Vanessa Williams. There are a lot of trailers before the movies which you can fortunately skip over, a trivia game and DVD storybook like the Tarzan DVD and a fun with nature booklet which they should of added to the DVD. Otherwise it's better than what we got before from older Disney DVD's. So, we have the movie at above average, the special features in the C to C- range and the DVD Overall probably a B-/C+.

Otherwise, for a DVD from Disney, this movie deserved better. A better video transfer and they could at least added the making of Pocahontas or something. (sigh)...

Anyway, if you want to watch Pocahontas, get the DVD version. Even those it's VHS quality, you get those extras and good sound. If you don't care about the extras and just want to see the movie, then the VHS might be your thing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Politically-correct racism
I wish my children had never seen this movie, but since I made the mistake of trusting Disney and since it reappears on TV frequently, I've used it as an opportunity to talk about the blatant (but politically-correct) racism woven through it. My point to my children: racism is wrong, no matter who it's directed at (a point that goes directly against the main theme of the movie).

In this movie, there is one and only one exception to the rule that all Native Americans are good and all English are bad. John Smith is the exception that proves the rule - other than him, all British are evil (and crude, dirty, greedy, etc.). The Native Americans aren't all quite perfect but all come around in the end, while the English are clearly rotten to the core, and the world would be a better place if they were all gone.

Get this movie for your children IF you want to teach them to use skin color as a way of predicting good versus evil. And don't worry, they won't get the wrong, racist lesson that dark skin is bad - they'll get the politically-correct lesson, that people with white skin are bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disney produces yet another inaccurate cartoon...
As always, Disney provides us with an hour-glass shaped, beautifully dashing, ever accomodating heroine, and a strong, handsome, brave, conquering hero; a romance story that is historically inaccurate, romanticized, racist, and sexist. "Pocahontas" was not her real name, and she was about ten years old. According to LEGEND, she saved John Smith's life - the woman of color saves the white man, while falling in love with him. According to REAL history, he was brought in to the village, well-fed and well-treated. Most likely, she simply talked with him while he was in her village. There was NO romantic relationship. She was actually kidnapped a few years later and held for ransom in Jamestown. She died of a White Man's disease. Disney has created a cartoon "Romeo & Juliet" story for children, and what hurts my heart the most is that people really believe that the Disney version is true. There are so many un-truths in the world, especially in our Media, and "Pocahontas" is one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love Story with a touch of History
In reality Pocahontas was the wife of another white settler named John Rolfe. She later became Lady Rebecca. We can say she fell in love with John Smith but their love story didn't workout.
The story of Pocahontas repesents us all Americans. That no matter how you look like, Black or White we are all foreigners on this land. The original Americans are the American Indians, cause they are already here when Columbus discovered America. As for this movie itself, I love it especially the music. ... Disney's take on this historical confrontation between European settlersand Native Americans follows the paths of two future lovers. One is British adventurer John Smith, who travels the Atlantic with the Virginia Company to establish Jamestown. On the shore is Pocahontas, a typical Disney heroine: bright, beautiful, mischievous, and motherless. The two meet in the untamed wilds of America (the first meeting is quite divine), fall in love, and try to ward off the warring factions. It's Disney's version of a Native American West Side Story. Two Disney trademarks do not quite muster up: the villain isn't hissable and the score's only high point is the Oscar-winning "Colors of the Wind." Calling it "historical" is a stretch, but Disney created a very natural look at the two cultures. The Native American characters are handled especially well, andkids should be intrigued by their world; the movie is a far different lesson from the one their parents and grandparents learned. Disney has discovered a few things, though: you don't have to kill to solve your problems, and you can end the film without a happily-ever-after, illustrated by a touching final visual. 2-0 out of 5 stars Better than I remembered, but still deeply flawed.
I remember seeing this movie in the theater and being so bored I nearly walked out. It's been on my list of films to avoid for a long time.Imagine my groans when my daughter received it for a birthday gift last week. But, she likes it so I sat down this morning and watched it with her.I have to admit, I've revised my opinion a bit. It's not as bad as I'd first believed. The acting and the animation is quite good, I really do like "Colors of the Wind," and I even got a bit chocked up at the end when Smith has to leave.

HOWEVER, the PC racism does bother me.Excepting John Smith, every white man is greedy, evil, stupid, and ugly while the Native Americans are beautiful and wise and live in some kind of utopian society of love, peace, cleanliness, and harmony (which I'm sure they didn't).Disney has glossed over the unpleasant aspects of that culture and completely disregarded anything positive about the Europeans.A good example is in the beginning when the Indian chief is returning from a war. We're not told what the war was about but we know there's been fighting and they were all brave and heroic.Yet when the white men are talking of war, they're just blood-thirsty, dumb, violent animals.I think it is an offensive portrayal of both races.

This historical inaccuracy also galls.Others have mentioned the problems with the Pocahontas/John Smith love story; in addition, it is also a false portrayal of the colonists.I'm not a expert, but I believe most of the Jamestown settlers came here to find a better life and escape tyranny in England, not for gold. They didn't land and immediately set out to exterminate the Native Americans, they were too worried about simply surviving that first winter, and most of them didn't.

This movie would have been better if Disney had scrapped any ties to Pocahontas and simply made a fictional Native American/European love story. You'd still have the emotion and passion, but it wouldn't be paraded as fact. They could have portrayed both cultures in a more truthful light and probably had a better story all the way around.

1-0 out of 5 stars Racist dribble
This is the most racist movie I have ever seen.PC to the max.

5-0 out of 5 stars Always Should Have Been
Beauty and the Beast's "Human Again" carries a cute scene between Belle and Beast but is ultimately unnecessary; The Lion King's "Morning Report" appears out of place and painfully disrupts the flow of the film; Pocahontas' "If I Never Knew You", however, is exactly what the movie needed to be complete.

A duet never should have been left out in the first place, "If I Never Knew You" is a melodically poetic, lyrically poignant exchange of singing dialog that authenticates Pocahontas and John Smith's feelings for each other, speaking of how lacking life would be if they never knew each other. The reprise well placed near the end of the film also dose a great job at evoking strong emotions and adds power to the bittersweet ending of this courageous romantic tale.

If I had only one misgiving about this effort, however minor, it would be that the animation accompanying the beautiful music had some room for improvement. There are a few moments there where the two leads look just a little bit "off" (not looking like themselves), especially in John Smith's case.Other than that, the added sequences are simply stunning.I especially love the segment where the "camera" moves from John Smith's looking up at the nightly sky to Pocahontas' paddling away towards Grandmother Willow's canopy.Trying not to give away anything, I'll just say that it has a lot of magic and symbolic meaning while echoing an earlier scene in the movie.

All in all, this special 10th anniversary edition of Pocahontas is a marvelous venture worthy of the Disney name and the love and loyalty of its fans. Now that I've seen this version of the film I will never go back to the original, for this is what it always should have been.

4-0 out of 5 stars Typically good Disney animated feature
As is the case with several other Amazon reviewers, I was sent a copy of this Tenth Anniversary edition as a gift. I had never seen Pocahontas before and, truthfully, was not inclined to see it at all but, being greatful for the freebie, I viewed it. I have seen many of the other Disney feature animations, having grown up on Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Peter Pan and Fantasia. In fact, I remember that when I was in elementary school, Sleeping Beauty was the feature at a Saturday matinee at my local art deco theater, and the show was a standing room only sellout.

This movie has many of the typical ingredients of these earlier successful Disney movies. These include great, colorful animation, a prince charming type of character in John Smith (Mel Gibson's voice), and a princess in Pocahontas. Also, the somewhat schmaltzy, but nontheless good songs, are part of the formula. Furthermore, most of those early Disney movies were fairy tales. Although there was a historic Pocahontas and John Smith, this movie too is a fairy tale. For example, whereas Cinderella had her fairy god mother, Pocahontas has Grandmother Willow, the wizened spirit of an elderly woman emanating from a willow tree. There is a villain, in this case, the greedy governor who comes over with John Smith on the ship. This villain believes that there is gold in the new world and wants to kill off the Indians (who he calls savages) in order to horde this presumed wealth. Of course, there is the love story, Pocahontas and John Smith. Finally, as is the case in any good Disney flick, there are the friendly, human like animals who always seem to play a fairly key role.

Yes, this has the ingredients. For a child who may never have seen Disney movies before, I'm sure it's magical. For us oldtimers who remember seeing the greatest Disney classics on the widescreen in art deco palaces (before they became multiplexes) this is still a fine movie but not quite up to the level of the all time great Disney animations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like watching it for the first time...
If you're looking for Pocahontas just for the kiddies, then it doesn't matter if you buy this edition or the older one.But if you're an adult fan of Disney, you'll definitely want the 10th Anniversary DVD.First, I compared both versions on in a high-end home theater with a 133" projection screen. The older DVD was very grainy and the colors were washed out.On this edition, the picture was simply stunning. It is crystal clear with beautiful colors. This is a DVD to pop in and show off your home theater. The audio is superb.Second, if you are a fan of Pocahontas, then the added scenes are worth the price alone.I can see why the song was originally cut.It probably seemed odd to have Smith singing while tied up.Those restored scenes really belong. If you're a crier then make sure you have a box of tissues handy. With the amazing quality and new scenes, it was like watching it for the first time.Highly recommended!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Billy Zane Rocks!
Funny, scary, and entertaining, "Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight" is the first of a series of films that are derived from the popular HBO series. Unlike the "Creep show" and "Tales From the Darkside" films of the past, "Tales From the Crypt" focuses on one tale of horror and suspense each time, allowing the story to develop into a more entertaining experience.

Directed by Ernest Dickerson ("Juice") "Demon Knight" features the immense talents of William Sadler, Jada Pinkett Smith, and the ever versatile, amazing Billy Zane in a horror movie laced with plenty of comedic moments. The story revolves around a key that Sadler is carrying in order to pass on to the next guardian. There are a total of 7 keys, representing a galaxy each. According to Sadler's story, the key contains the blood of Jesus Christ. While dying on the cross at Golgotha, a follower of Christ pour his blood into the key to prevent the conquest of earth and the rest of the universe by Satan and his legion of demons. Until all keys are together can this happen, and with 6 of the keys in the hand of demons, the fate of the universe lies on Pinkett Smith's character, who is the chosen one to carry the key after Sadler.

I must praise Billy Zane. He is amazing. He plays the perfect villain, and in this role he is dynamite. His performance is more comedic, and he would make similar villains of the past such as Freddy Krueger very proud. I can understand why Hollywood has typecasted him as a villain in almost all of his films after seeing this film. Zane's intense sex appeal will captivate many viewers, and his range of emotions is incredible.

Pinkett Smith who was coming into films fresh from the cancellation of the long-running NBC series "A Different World," is great. As the heroine of the movie she really can kick butt, and her on-screen chemistry with Zane is perfect.

In conclusion, this a great film to view if you are in the mood for horror mixed in with a bit of dark humor. The film can be strong at times with the sight of gore and violence, but if it weren't for Billy Zane's performance, I wouldn't have cared to watch this film at all. He is one of the film world's most gifted actors and this film was a showcase of his talent before he became a bigger name when he starred in "James Cameron's Titanic." "Demon Knight" is an excellent example of how to create an entertaining horror film. Skip "Blair Witch" and try this film instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars horror movie or comedy?
It seems to be a great combination of the two!

I don't think I ever saw this show on TV but since reading some of the reviews on this particular edition and the impressive cast list, I was curious to see what the fuss was about. That and the fact that I am a fan of Billy Zane and now William Sadler. I never realized that the latter actor was in so many things, such as "The Green Mile" and the "Roswell" series. I also don't think that I've ever seen Jada Pinkett Smith in anything before. I'm glad that she had a good strong character to sink her teeth into.

What WAS interesting was the way the story developed by way of verbal explanations and flashbacks. At the beginning you weren't quite sure who was the good guy or who was the bad guy but Billy Zane played his role extremely well as the wickedly, funny Collector!

Since watching this movie I was interested to see how many other "Tales from the Crypt" were available to buy on DVD. Especially with the !number of famous people which you can always find in the querky stories. Unfortunately there are only 2 that I could find. Hopefully, there will be more of them in the near future.

A great way to spend 1½ hours!

5-0 out of 5 stars Demon Knight!!!
Wow! What a good Movie! This is byfar the best Demon Possesion movie since the Evil Dead. The demons look a lot like pumkinhead, but with long rock band hair. William Saddler and Jada Pinkett lead the fight against the sly and funny collector (Billy Zane). The fun begins right away with a cool beginning action sequence. As The film goes on, introducing the charcters, the demons arrive and the war begins. I'd say the best parts of the movie is where you see the demons takeover people.

It's really gross! They mutate and deform in different ways! But, if you like funny, actiony horror films that are explosive, This is It!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap, B-Movie Fun!
Demon Knight is a blast which is a lot to say for a film that seems to be made on a sixty dollar budget. The special effects are nothing spectacular ( but I appreciated that more than outrageous tricks relied on by films like The Matrix ). This film is the best Tales From the Crypt episode you'll ever see. It may not be filled with the greatest acting or dialogue but it is one of the most entertaining films you'll see in a long time. I saw this in 95' and enjoyed it since then. I've just purchased the DVD and cannot wait to sample the film on high quality stock. Billy Zane shines although a lackluster Jada Pinkett should have been replaced by a more vibrant black actress such as Nia Long. Zane and Pinkett have no chemistry and it surprises that the filmmakers decided to have Pinkett be the " chosen mistress " to Billy's underlord persona. Anyway, this film has a few minor faults but nothing to make this film less than a five-star gem. A hidden jewel if I say so myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tales
Very interesting movie. Some scenes are a bit disgusting. Nevertheless the connection of the story line with the crucifixion of Jesu-Christ is quite interesting. And maybe not so crazy after all.
A film worth seeing and thinking of. Not for children! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Sweet and Sentimental Comedy, Perfect for the Family
Casper is a fun children's film, that can be watched as a family and keep everyone entertained. Unlike many movies concerning ghosts, there is no reason to worry that this movie will upset or scare even the most sensitive children. Casper is sweet and endearing, and even the vicious ghosts in this film are far from threatening as they quickly bring a smile to your face and alleviate any tension with humor.
However, Casper does not rely souly on laughter, and has a strong plot to back it up. It raises spiritual questions that make you think, and has very heartfelt moments of intense emotion. You grow to care about the characters as we watch Casper and Kat in their simultaneous search for friendship, and Dr. Harvey in his quest to resolve his own unfinished business and finally get some closure.
Malachi Pearson does an outstanding job as the voice of Casper, and portrays all of his emotions very convincingly. You can also look forward to a great performance from Bill Pullman, and will love hating the bumbling villains portrayed by Cathy Moriarty and Eric Idle. Unfortunately, there are times where Christina Ricci seems to have some difficulty filling her role as Kat, and occasionally makes scenes awkward and unconvincing.
The score for this film is beautiful, and adds a great deal to the spirit and mood of the movie.
There is some light use of profanity that I don't find necessary or appropriate for a family film aimed largely at children, but it can be easily overlooked.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome, fun movie!
I just love CASPER. It's a really great movie. CASPER is about a man (Bill Pullman) who studies the supernatural in search for his dead wife. He keeps moving his teenager daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) around all over the place because his job requires a lot of traveling. Kat hates all the moving because she never gets a chance to live in a particular place long enough to make any friends. When her father is asked to find the spirits who live in a haunted house in Maine, he promises Kat that this will be the last place they will move to.

A woman who wants Kat's father to talk to the ghosts wants him to do that because she is looking for a "secret treasure" that has been hidden in the house for years. Little does anyone know that this is the home of Casper the ghost and his "uncles": Stinky, Fatso, and Streatch. And they are not happy that somebody is moving into their house except for Casper. Casper is excited because Kat - a girl - is moving into the house, too. So while the father and Kat are living at the mansion, the three ghosts try to make them miserable...so miserable that they'll want to move out. But Casper is trying to impress Kat so he can win her over! An excellent movie with a special appearence by teen crooner, Devon Sawa, as Casper, the real boy.

If you are a fan of the Supernatural and of comedy movies, than this movie is for you!!

4-0 out of 5 stars An endearing film about Casper and his friend Kat!
"The living impaired are known for haunting us," Dr Harvey explains, "My question is what's haunting them." Dr. Harvey and his daughter Kat (Christina Ricci) are persuaded to leave Santa Fe and come to Friendship, Maine to live at Whipstaff Manor, to help new owner Carrigan Crittendon and her friend Dibs get rid of the ghosts haunting her manor. Casper the Friendly Ghost is very excited when he learns that Dr. Harvey and his pretty young daughter Kat are going to be living in his house (maybe he can finally make a friend!); but his ghostly uncles have other plans...

The premise of Casper is that ghosts exist, are "spirits with unfinished business" (hence they have not yet "crossed over"), and interact freely with "live" people at times; (they haunt houses and wreak havoc on people who trespass there). For those who are worried about content: there is a scene where a man gets drunk in a bar and has an accident, there is a Halloween costume party, there are a few ghosts who are "mean" and play tricks and scare people, and a few arguments between characters in the film. There is a very sweet and innocent kiss between a girl and boy, but otherwise there is no objectionable content in that respect. Language: there are a few swear words, so be aware!

If you can view this film with the belief that it is just a cute and funny film about "ghosts," which as we know do not exist, it is a most enjoyable film. If you cannot rest easy while watching a film about ghosts, then by all means don't watch it. For those of you who can separate the real from the unreal and the difference between spirits and ghosts, the supernatural world and the real world, this is a cute and endearing film about a friendly ghost named Casper and his new friend Kat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Family 'Friendly'.....
Any film that can gather the family together for a fun, wholesome, and entertaining view, and hold the interest of all for it's entire length, gets 5 stars in my book. "Casper" is one of those films. It may not go down as some great piece of cinematic art, but it is one that all generations can enjoy, will leave you with a smile, and something to talk about with kids afterwards.

Based on the old comic book stories, "Casper" is a very friendly but very lonely ghost. He lives in an old mansion, that has seen better days. He is not alone in this huge house though, he lives with his three very nasty(but funny) uncles,"Stretch", "Stinky" and "Fatso". Casper only wants someone to move in,so he could have a friend, the uncles on the other hand, do their very best to scare away any visitors.
So when a greedy woman inherits the property, and believes there is a buried treasure inside, she hires an array of 'ghostbusters' to rid the house of all spirits. None seem to be able to handle this terrible trio, until one day a ghost psychiatrist and his lonely daughter(also looking for a friend),move in and try to tame the threesome. From there it's a fun and wild ride, and a touching story of friendship.

The film has a terrific cast that works well with the wonderful animation and special effects. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci are the father and daughter team that befriend these spirits. Cathy Moriarty("Forget Paris"), and Eric Idle as her bumbling assistant add their talents as they go for the treasure.Lots of big names are cameoed throughout. Don Novello, and Dan Aykroyd reprise their roles of Father Guido Sarducci, and ghostbuster Dr. Raymond Stantz for brief appearances, just to name a couple.
The voices including Brad Garrett as "Fatso" are marvelous, and you can never go wrong when James Horner scores a film with just the right touches.

It's rated PG for some occassional mild language and thematic elements, and at an hour and a half, it just the right length, and is a delightful way to spend some laugh out loud family time together.

Ghostly fun......enjoy.....Laurie

4-0 out of 5 stars A "Spirited" Movie (yuk yuk); a "Poor" ending
Casper (not to be confused with "Casper: A Spirited Beginning" or any of the Casper The Friendly Ghost cartoons) is an interesting mix of elements both good and bad - but mostly good.

Without a doubt, the movie's strongest asset is its humor. By and large, this is thanks to Casper's uncles Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso (The Ghostly Trio), all of whom are hilariously animated and perfectly voiced by three actors whose names I unfortunately can't remember. Bill Pullman is also very funny as Dr. Harvey, and great supporting comic performances are lent by Cathy Moriarty as the evil Carrigan Crittenden and Eric Idle as Carrigan's long-suffering sidekick, Dibs.

All of this, of course, amounts to a sub-plot in the end - a prominent one, but a sub-plot nonetheless. The main story is that of Casper (voiced by Malachi Pearson) and Dr. Harvey's young daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci). Ricci says some of her lines awkwardly (in my opinion), but for the most part does a nice job. Jessica Wesson's portrayal of Amber, the snotty girl at Kat's school, is perfect.

I think the movie's flaws lie in its plot more than anything else. For instance: throughout the story, Kat has a crush on Vic, the supposedly cute (and slimy) kid at her school, but in the end when Vic shows his true colors and stands her up at the Halloween party, she doesn't really seem to care at all. There is a brief shot of her sitting by the wall with a pouty (well, really, more broody) expression on her face, but this is dispensed with in an instant.

Another of my biggest beefs is with the ending. I don't want to give away specifics, but it is the weakest part of the story - bittersweet and touching one moment, and then it turns raucous and weird before you can blink. Makes you want to throttle the nearest neck.

Ah, well. As I said earlier, the movie is far more good than bad, and of course everything here is just one person's opinion. Who knows. You might love the ending. But if not, I have a feeling you'll like most everything else. ... Read more

Like a lost Dr. Seuss story from hell, Who Slew Thaddeus Simon Mulberry Pew? is a nightmarish if unexpectedly funny short about bored siblings Tammy (Lisette Bross) and Sammy (Billy Ray Gallion), forced into disastrous play with creepy neighborhood kid Thaddeus (John Kassir). (All three actors are adults, adding to the gallows humor of this 2002 piece by Brett W. Nemeroff, director of the television drama One Christmas Eve.) Despite the bouncy, rhyming iambic pentameter, Thaddeus rapidly darkens once Sammy and Tammy find Thaddeus to be as monstrous as his reputation. The kids' dubious solution: cover young Pew's head with a plastic bag. Once Thaddeus succumbs (or appears to) to the inevitable, a Cat in the Hat-like Whizzit (Armin Shimerman, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) shows up to make matters better... or, um, worse. The action is lively, the dialogue sprinkled with hilarious profanity, and the ending surprises. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

This Nickelodeon sketch comedy series hosted by young comedienne Amanda Bynes is as fresh today as during its 1999-2000 run with still-timely jabs at reality shows, teen dramas, and fan obsession. Byne and her young castmates manage to have a goofily good time at no one's expense. In these two 22-minute episodes (#214 and #217), the cast manages to skewer hillbillies and (unidentifiable) immigrants without offending, probably because the other characters get theirs, as well, including a hapless Danny Bonaduce as an outraged video store customer. JudgeTrudy and her bailiff survive a reality-show challenge in the middle of an Oklahoman parking lot, Mr. Gullible tries to be a good sport during a school fire drill, and Penelope Taint, Amanda's no. 1 fan, is able to prove her case. This innuendo-free comedy is appropriate for all ages, but will be most understood by ages 7 and older. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

After working on the Amanda Show on the First Season as Lobster #2, the show is HOT!!!! I still love tuning into the NICKELODEON channel and watching.

Amanda Bynes is nothing less than Super and all of the cast was so great. That is why this show deserves a ***** rating.

Love it,

5-0 out of 5 stars This is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that the Amanda Show is the best show on Nickelodeon. I can't believe they are not making any new episodes any more. I loved this show since the first time I saw it. No one can watch this show and not laugh out loud. I can't believe it is finally coming to DVD. I will watch this DVD all the time. My favorite character is Mr. Gullible. He is the best and funniest character. I also really like Courtney, who is played by Amanda. She is so funny and weird. I can't wait until this DVD comes out. I am going to get it the first day it comes out and watch it 2 or 3 times. Then I am going to show it to all my friends. I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who watches it will love it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars George is back! Or kind of!
George of the Jungle returns in this sequel to the hit 1997 movie. Only this came to video and dvd, and it is misses at least 2 people from the first film, but for some Thomas Halden Church returns in this movie, along with John Cleese and Keith Scott who provides the narrator's voice. But this time, Disney decided to take a live action movie, and make a sequel out of it, usually they do this with animated movies. As the movie opens, George of the Jungle (Christopher Showerman replacing Brendan Fraser). And now he is king of the jungle, and has to divide time for both the animals and his wife Ursula (Julie Benz) and son Junior (Angus T. Jones), and usually he ends up late for things for his family including lunch! But one day, George's mother-in-law Beatrice Stanhope (Christina Pickles) comes to the jungle for her grand son's birthday, and has secretly has plans, to return her daughter and her grand son to cvilian, and reunite Ursuala with her ex-fiance Lyle (Thomas Haden Church). While Lyle has plans win the deed for Ape Mountain, fro Ape (John Cleese) who is now in Las Vegas, during a poker game, Lyle hides in disquise, and plays, Ape, and cause him to go broke, and when Lyle suggests to play for the deed to Ape Moutnain, he reveles his doesn't have it, and that it belongs to George of the Jungle. And has serious debt, and has to work in a casino for 17 years. And when George learns that Ape is in trouble, he goes to Las Vegas to talk to Ape, becuase Geroge thinks that Ursuala is not happy in the jungle.

1-0 out of 5 stars A sequel so bad, hardly anyone from the first film is in it
I wanted to see this movie for two reasons. The first is that my daughter and I both really enjoyed the first film, with Brendan Fraser as George and Leslie Mann as Ursula. The fact that neither of these actors reprised their roles didn't bother me, especially since the second reason I wanted to see this film was because this time, one of my all-time favorite actresses, Julie Benz, would be playing Ursula. I was disappointed on both counts.

First off, this film is really, really bad. Okay, I expected it to not match up to the first film, since few sequels do, and rarely does a movie that skips the theater and goes straight to video have much going for it. But this one took the prize. The jokes are contrived and overworked - in the first 20 minutes of the film, the same three jokes were recycled several times, and they stopped being funny after the first time they were told. And then there's Christopher Showerman's performance as the "new George". The film does have a few moments of fun with the Brendan Fraser lookalike's appearance in this film (including a jab that the studio was to cheap to hire the now-superstar Fraser for the sequel), and newcomer Showerman shows signs of being a fine actor in his own right. But he works way to hard trying to be Brendan Fraser, and the simple fact is, he isn't - no one is. Fraser brought a certain magic to the role the Showerman never manages to capture, no matter how much he may look or act like his predecessor. He'd have probably been easier to stomach had he tried to develop his own version of the character, the way Fraser managed to take the original cartoon character and make the part his own.

The other disappointment was Julie Benz. In interviews, Benz had said the reason she wanted to do this movie is because she wanted to do comedy. Benz is best known for playing the highly devious vampire Darla on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", a role which most might think of as being highly dramatic. But there have been many moments where Benz got to show her comedic talents in that role; she has proven time and again in that role that she is an extremely talented actress with a remarkable sense of comedic timing and delivery. So I can only scratch my head as to what she was thinking when she agreed to play Ursula. This isn't a "funny" character, not even when Leslie Mann played her in the first film. Ursula is more the straight man; the funny stuff mostly went to George, or to Lyle (Thomas Haden Church, reprising from the first film) or an ape named Ape (voiced by Monty Python's John Cleese, also reprising from the first film). Benz spends most of this film just mooning over George or huffing over his antics, and wasting her ample acting talents as a result. Hopefully she will get the chance to prove she can do comedy, and this film (coupled with her work in sci-fi and horror films/shows) won't interfere with that opportunity.

Sad to say, I can't even recommend this movie to fans of any of the actors. Mostly, I spent the whole film simply embarrassed for Julie Benz, as well as for John Cleese, Thomas Haden Church, and for Christina Pickles, who takes over in the role of Beatrice, Ursula's mother (played by Holland Taylor in the first film).

In the end, I recommend you spend your money on something worthy, like perhaps the superior original George of the Jungle film.

5-0 out of 5 stars GEORGE IS HOT!
Ok, so the basic movie really is dificult to sit through, unless you don't mind looking at Christopher Showerman and his incredible body. Chris trained months and months to perfect his body and how beautiful it is! Imagine this George swinging into your living room or finding a guy like this living in the jungle. Would you ever want to leave?! It's Disney, it's light and silly entertainment but serious for fans of Christopher Showerman and fans of body building. Thanks Chris for giving us motivation in the gym!

4-0 out of 5 stars Younger Kids Will Love It
My three year old got this for Christmas and loves it. Don't expect a cinematic masterpiece. It's kind of corny but it's a cute movie. Lots of talking animals, colorful scenery, action, one liners that 3yr olds will like to repeat... "Eat fur jungle boy". I agree with an earlier reviewer that Jr. doesn't get enough screen time. It took me a little while to get used to the new George, but I think he's just as good as the first one, and equally as hubba hubba.

4-0 out of 5 stars A cut below the others, but still great
For various reasons, I refuse to watch Disney cartoons, and until my two-year-old figures out how to get somebody to rent them for her, she won't see any either. The *American Tail* series is one of the few great options left.

This installment is neither as well drawn nor as musically satisfying as its predecessors, but it may well be my favorite cartoon movie now.

Of course, that's because I *like* the "political correctness" that one reviewer derided. I think that immigrant laborers and Native Americans, struggling for their place in an unforgiving City, make far better heroes than princesses and princes waiting for their divine rights to be recognized.

If workers'/aboriginal rights seem like kind of a drag to you, then you may want to head over to the *Lion King*; I'm sure Disney will be happy to take your money. If you'd prefer that your kids grow up with the (true) idea that America's story is more complicated than it first appears, this movie will be a great start.

And it's not like your kids will be bored with it. Since the DVD arrived three days ago, my daughter has frequently arisen from her nap already asking for 'mouse.' She likes Fievel and Papa just plenty, and I like the fact that she still has no idea who Mickey is.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love an american tail 3
I watched this movie and i really like it.Its cool, fun and exciting.I can watch it over and over.I think anyone should enjoy this movie.

2-0 out of 5 stars This movie
Okay. Alright I thought it was lame. The political correctness . I thought kids movies were a safe haven from that. The acting [was no good]. The animation oh lord. The animation it was done by the crew that created animanics. I hate warner bros animation. The good points were Cholina and Fievel. They were true to themselves. Fievel he's more annoying in this movie. He was cute and spirited in the first movie. I'll give an account of the films' good points. The movie isn't some lame recap of the first. Two stars for a good effort. minus three stars for political correctness.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY cool!
This movie was great! I thought the animation was better than the first two, and the story was equally good...all in all, the movie was GRRRRREAT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Ok. I honestly have to say that before I watched this film, I had some doubts and apprehensions. Ever since NIMH II I told myself that I would avoid sequels like the plague. I even THOUGHT that it was going to be NIMH II once again. But I hunkered down and tried to enjoy it and suprising as it sounds, I did! PLOT: Pretty okay as plot lines go. Everything is as it was put in the editorial review. Fievel and Tony stumble upon a treasure map, and instead find an underground Native American mouse civilization. Meanwhile, Papa Mousekewitz has to deal with the daily grind of late 19th century labor and finds the hope and courage that he thought he had lost. The movie has morals all right, but not forced into the viewer. It deals with fear and prejudice and mixes it with hope and dreams. It wasn't the most formulatic plotline in the world either. This was actually kindof original and well conceived. ANIMATION: The animation was one of the things that made me anxious before seeing it. Fortunatly, it was a familiar animation group that I've seen on Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs. It wasn't Bluth, but still it was very well done for a direct-to-video. The animation itself makes up for the few toony gestures in the movie because I've seen it on Tiny Toons all the time. CHARACTERS: I'm glad they didn't ruin any of the characters for me. Fievel was way too cute in this one! Voice and all. Tanya was a plus on the character roster too. Her design was like that in the first movie and for that I'm grateful. NOT to say that I didn't like the Fievel Goes West model, but she's cuter in this design. They brought back Tony, who wasn't there for the second movie, so that's also a plus! He's pretty cool. I'm glad they didn't ruin Tiger, like a certain other company did to a certain crow in another sequel! He was more or less the same as he was in the first two movies, but didn't get very many lines though. The new characters didn't come off as formula, especially not the villians. Cholina was the best of the new characters. She was really sweet, especially on Fievel. MUSIC & SONGS: They just started with a song after viewing Mannhattan Harbor. Frankly, that song was quite relieving, because it's the sequel's way of saying, "there ARE songs in this!" But there were only three, and for this I'm grateful that Universal didn't saturate the sequel with them. The songs were pretty good, even the villians' song "Friends of the Working Mouse." "Anywhere in our Dreams," sung between Cholina and Fievel, was my favorite. They did use the music track from the first movie thought. At first this annoyed me, but they integrated it with their own track pretty well. Later, I welcomed the classic music along with the new. FINAL THOUGHTS: All in all, this was a pretty good movie for a direct to video sequel. It's a good movie that deserves a fair chance before judgement. YES the second movie was shrugged off as one of Fievel's dreams, but I think his innocence and cuteness makes up for that. It was neat that they kept all cats out of this movie except Tiger, so in that respect alone it probably is truer to the original movie. But again, see it for yourself. You may be as pleased as I am! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated brilliance
I never understood why so many people hate this movie. Even Fangoria called it 'abysmal'. But I consider it a worthy follow-up to the delicious Demon Knight. It has brilliant acting: Dennis Miller is a treat as smartass private eye. Angie Everhart is not only the hottest female vampire in years, no, she even proves that she can actually act. Corey Feldman has one of his very few good roles. But who really chews the scenery is Chris Sarandon (Fright Night), one of the most underrated actors ever: His performance as a TV preacher alone makes this movie worth watching. Only Erika Eleniak is rather miscast. And watch out for Demon Knight veteran William Sadler (another underestimated actor) as mummy. The make-up F/X are not only unbelievably gory for an R-rated movie; they're so excellent they even surprise genre buffs who thought they've seen it all. The characters are wonderfully weird, and although there's loads of black humour in it, I'm glad Bordello of Blood never turns in a fun-splatter movie and still provides some chills. Even if you heard it's awful: Give it a try! It's more than just another vampire movie and has more imaginery than all those new teen horror films that Scream spawned together. I just hope there'll be a final part to the Tales from the Crypt full-length-feature trilogy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vampire Prostitutes
Bordello of Blood is the second Tales From the Crypt movie, and I found it very enjoyable.

Unlike the first movie (Demon Knight) this movie did not start out with the television show's opening. It opened more like a movie than an extra long episode.

Bordello of Blood is the story of a down-on-his-luck private investigator (Dennis Miller) looking for a missing teenager. The search leads him to a funeral home that is a front for a bordello run by vampires. Miller's client tells him to drop the case but he really needs the case to succeed if he is going to get his license back. Miller investigates and plays a very savvy investigator who doesn't fall for anyone's lines and is not surprised by what he finds. Added to this is television evangelism, the lore of vampires and their origin, and the key from the first movie.

The action is similar to the series with the same tongue-in-cheek humor (possibly even more so). I particularly liked the investigator's resourcefulness in eliminating the vampires (a long-range, large-capacity squirt gun filled with holy water) and the vampire applying the SPF100 sun block.

If you like Tales From the Crypt, there is no reason you will not like this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars The reason Tales from the Crypt died
While the first film was a solid, self-contained horror flick with a touch of humor and a fair amount of sophistication and imagination, Bordello of Blood falls apart under poor direction and a far too free-spirited nature. While it is a failure as a sequel it manages to entertain only as a brainless timewaster.

Dennis Miller does his best with the weak material and ad-libs a lot of humor. A little too much, taking the film even further from it's already vague ambitions. But worry not, his humor is still free and easy, unlike his cryptic (no pun intended) football commentaries. Erika Eleniak is marginally engaging and Corey Feldman is well underused. The weakest performances come from Angie Everhart as the ancient vampire Lillith and Chris Sarandon as the outrageously stereotyped southern TV evangelist. It's these performances that keep the film eternally low brow.

It's sad that Tales from the Crypt totally died after this movie but the powers behind it went on to found the Dark Castle production company (check out those movies they're actually quite scary and effective).

This new version of Bordello of Blood is by Universal and is presented in it's proper aspect ratio of 1.85:1 anamorphic and is in Dolby 5.1. The cheapo snapper case has been replaced by a sturdy keepcase and a new cover art. The only new extra is a trailer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tales From The Crypt Presents - Bordello of Blood
When a Private Investigator (Dennis Miller) is hire by a church-going, sexy concerned sister (Erika Eleniak) to find her bad-assed brother (Corey Feldman) the case turns into a bloodbath. When they finally find her brother he is found in a local mortuary which tends to have funerals in the mornings and a whorehouse at night. The whorehouse is run by a vampire (Angie Everheart) whose over 1,000 years old. Full of comedy, gore and (of course) sex, Bordello of Blood is very satisfying and has the ability to entertain multiple viewings. The film also co-stars Chris Sarandon. The DVD isn't much. It only have a Theatrical Trailer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gorey and fun horror romp
The second (but hopefully not last) Tales From the Crypt film, Bordello of Blood is as nasty as it's title implies. Full of scantily clad vampire women and loaded with a surprising amount of gore for an R-rated movie, this film is pure trashy horror fun with comedian Dennis Miller playing a private eye who stumbles upon a bordello full of vampires being funded by an evangilist (Chris Sarandon). Plenty of toungue-in-cheek dark humor, hot babes, and wild gore; Bordello of Blood doesn't hit the same greatness as Demon Knight, but it doesn't try to either. Also featuring Erika Eleniak, Corey Feldman, and Angie Everhart as the mouthwatering vampire master. ... Read more

Private eye Rafe Guttman (Dennis Miller) is hired by repressed,born-again Katherine (Erika Eleniak) to find her missing bad-boy brother. The trail leads him to a whorehouse run by a thousand-year-old vampire (Angie Everhart) and secretly backed by Katherine's boss, televangelist Jimmy Current (Chris Sarandon, wonderfully insincere and smarmy). Not for the squeamish or the easily offended (but you knew that from the title), Bordello of Blood is pulp horror as it should be--funny, fast, and full of gore.

Also featuring Erika Eleniak, Corey Feldman, and Angie Everhart as the mouthwatering vampire master. ... Read more

Very interesting movie. Some scenes are a bit disgusting. Nevertheless the connection of the story line with the crucifixion of Jesu-Christ is quite interesting. And maybe not so crazy after all.
A film worth seeing and thinking of. Not for children! ... Read more
