Perhaps Stripes and Caddyshack screenwriter Harold Ramisand Commando director Mark Lester were not an ideal collaborative team. But while this 1986 misfit comedy is something of a misfire, SCTV fanscan take heart in watching John Candy and Eugene Levy triumph over weak materialas mismatched security guards who stumble upon mob corruption. Candy, inparticular, does wonders with a role that in lesser hands would have been a mere"fatty falls down" stereotype. He plays a cynical disgraced cop who takes Levy'scowardly former lawyer under his wing ("Stick with me, I'll keep you out oftrouble," he reassures him). Like Ramis's character in Stripes, Levyrises to the occasion under fire, and even gets the girl--Meg Ryan in earlyingénue mode, trying out the fetching grins and ingratiating smiles that wouldmake her America's sweetheart three years later in When Harry Met Sally.--Donald Liebenson ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Another classic film from the Candy man
John Candy and Eugene Levy have a great chemistry in this film. The addition of the sweet, innocent character played by Meg Ryan a great plus. Even though the story and filming is not the greatest, their characters in this film play off each other very well to provide for some hilarious, outlandish situations and a whole slew of laughs. For example, this is the only film that features a semi-truck hauling a tanker of rocket fuel playing demolition derby through a traffic jam. Even though some of the humor is a bit campy at times, I could watch this film over and over, and still laugh out loud. This movie is a good addition to you family library, and a must have for John Candy fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes Clever Comedy but John Candy`s Classic.
When an Honest Cop (John Candy) was framed for stealing and Ex-Lawyer (Eugene Levy), they become together Private Security Guards but when a Conspiracy that is happining at the Private Security Guards. The Ex-Cop and the Ex-Lawyer are going to solve the case together, if they like it or not.

Directed by Mark L. Lester (Class of 1984 and 1999, Commando) shows a great fun of Comedy and Action. Candy and Levy are great together, the supporting cast are:Robert Loggia, Kenneth McMillian, Meg Ryan, Jonathan Banks, Brion James and Steve Ralisback (In a Cameo). DVD has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer (also in Pan & Scan) with the Original:Dolby Stereo 2.0 Surround Sound. This was a box office disappointment in 1986 but it does way better on Video. John Candy and Brion James died years later after this fun. This is a fun cop comedy. Grade:A-.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Funny
One of the best comedys of the late 80s. In one scene..John Candy dressed as Divine and Eugene Levy in assless chaps(are'nt you the cheeky one)worth the price of admission.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great John Candy romp!
Like many of the action comedies of the time this one delivers an entertaining story with John Candy's wacky humor. Candy and Levy star as the protagonists who are forced to join a security agency when all other options fail. Revolving around a plot involving corruption and crooked cops Candy and Levy aim to get to the bottom of all that is wrong while [complicating matters] frequently. I really laughed a lot at this film. Candy and Levy make a great team and offer up some very hysterical scenes. Levy's attempts at being a defense attorney, Candy fishing at a pier, and the two crashing a ball thrown for the chief of police all seem like harmless events but these two always know how to screw them all up. If you are a fan of the SCTV or SNL crews then you definately have to see this movie. It is lesser known but very funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Black Marble
This movie portrays two police detectives -- each with their own problems, through a series of adventures. What a cast-- Robert Foxworth plays a Russian Immigrant that has "seen too much" and has a drinking problem because of it. Paula Prentiss gives the performance of her life as his newly assigned partner -- entirely against her wishes. Great plot! Great supporting cast too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Alien Cheese From Canada
This is easily one of the silliest coming of age sagas ever made. Made in Canada and starring Judy Landers as "Miss Xenobia", an alien disguised (with excessive makeup and gigantic hair) as a college biology teacher. "Dr. Alien" is somewhat like "Weird Science" combined with "Hobgoblins" in overall texture and concept. The plot revolves around the transformation of Billy Jacoby from nerd to extremely cool (for mid 1980's Canada) studmuffin. Along the way many silly situations typical of the genre happen, and poor Billy Jacoby gets a comical looking, yet disturbing additional appendage (which talks, but it's not what you think) that helps him out with the ladies.

I am particularly fond of the scenes in the bar, both for the rankness of the music and later the Hobgoblins-esque (though with better special effects) brawl. Three stars, it definitely has mid 1980s camp value, which will make you laugh if you are so inclined, but it isn't outrageous enough to watch repeatedly.

3-0 out of 5 stars B-movie classic
The plot is pretty standard. "Geek" is asked to help his (gorgeous) substitute biology teacher with an experiment. All of the sudden "geek" gets cool and has amazing...self-confidence...at least partially due to the pheremones put out by the thing poking out of his head. Turns out the substitute is an alien out to save her race by experimenting on hapless humans.

So can our geek ever get the one girl he wants, instead of the hundreds he doesn't? Get the show and find out.

3-0 out of 5 stars one hot alien
if you like campy b-movies then you must see dr.alien, it,s funny, it has judy landers, tons of hot sexy women, what more could you ask for.

4-0 out of 5 stars anyone who likes cheesy 80's, will like this.
This is a big time cheesy 80's movie, but I'm sure if you like stuff like that (I do), this is a good investment. It's also got a little T&A which I'm sure can't hurt at all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Your kidding right?

1-0 out of 5 stars Expert Weapon
I was very disappointed with Expert Weapon.Sam Jones was great in Flash Gordon but in this movie well i think he should have left it alone. The acting and fighting scenes were so stupidly made,it was like as if a actor was standing there waiting to be hit. This is the type of film that reminded me of the early '80's low and cheap. Please do not waste your money on a low budget film like this.Rent it or look for a diffrent type of action film.

1-0 out of 5 stars AMATEURISH S/F SWORDFIGHTING VIDEO
Robert Chapin, who gave us so much good action in "Ring of Steel", does nothing to advance his career here. This is a lamely written, poorly directed, overall amateur-feeling video.

The plot involves a post-apocalyptic swordfighter going back to our time to save the future from some plague, or something. There's something in there about how he rebelled against the warlord who created him, there's the requisite romantic interests and bad guys and stranger-in-a-strange-land type stuff as our heroes and villains explore 1990's LA.

The sets in the future are obviously someone's back yard. The fight choreography is blatant and poorly edited. The acting ranges from almost competent to woeful, and is not helped by the weak material. The director himself plays a guy about to enjoy his wedding night when the female hero from the future, inexplicably topless, appears in his bed. This level of sophistication infuses the whole production. A decent student film festival will give you more cinematic satisfaction.

The only reedeeming qualities I found in this fim are the eye-candy actors and the ability to clearly analyze the sword fighting choreography.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time.
I rented this video because I like films with action and sword fights, but this film did not deliver. The action was weak and the sword fights were silly. The direction and acting were even worse. I wish I could say something positive but I can't think of anything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dragon Fury Review
I liked this film because it didn't get too technical with the medical/scifi terminology. It was easy to follow in that respect. The fight scenes were done very well with only one objectionable/hokey death of a bad guy. I liked the fact that the hero was not infallible. He had some chinks in his armor which made him more interesting. I would like to have seen one tiny redeeming quality in the main warrior bad guy though. Even just a slight hesitation when he's about to do something really nasty-a hint of regret-would help me believe a little bit more in his character. I would recommend this film to anyone interested in swords or this type of hand to hand combat. The guys aren't bad to look at either! ... Read more
