3-0 out of 5 stars I grew up with the Ingalls.
First, like many here, this is one of my top favorite shows. I feel like I've grown up with the Ingalls family and really care about them as characters in these stories. Many of these episodes give me a special feeling that can often bring tears to my eyes (Just hearing the music can do that). You'll have to buy the pilot episode separately but it's worth the money. The first 2 episodes (Harvest of Friends and Country Girls) are a magnificent start! The Ingalls settle in and we get to meet some of the most enduring characters to ever appear on TV. I was about to list my other favorites of the first season but the list is too long. :) Highlights are The Racoon, a 2-parter called The Lord Is My Shepard, Christmas At Plum Creek, Plague, Child In Pain, Money Crop, Survival and Founder's Day. I'm glad to have these in DVD form so that they will last forever.

Now with that out of the way, I cannot in good conscience give this set a *****/***** like I'd like to. At first glance all looks great with this set...beautiful packaging (I wish they had included a set of cards with the pictures on the packaging). But after watching each episode I've discovered the problems mentioned from other buyers. The image and sound quality varies from episode to episode. Even ones with a sharp picture can have problems with jagged edges. Every time the outside of the schoolhouse/church is shown I cringe a little bit. It looks like it needs its horizonal hold adjusted. But this isn't fatal. Many look fine reguardless. And most others are acceptable while a few just look bad at first...but close up shots of the characters are always sharp. Many have what looks like a sheet of grain across them (I saw a similar effect in some of my Monty Python episodes so I figure its just the age of the program). I would've paid more money for a proper cleanup job on some of these episodes and anamorphic transfers for all. Little House is one of the best offerings in American television, ever. It deserves the best it can be. I think many problems are probably less noticable on a regular TV (I use a 19" monitor so problems show very well).

One big grevance is the fact that the packaging says these are uncut. This is not true. Uncut means that we get each episode with the teaser at the beginning, the original opening credits, the episode and then previews for the next, then closing credits for that episode. Again, this program deserves to be presented in it's original complete form (which is what we all thought we were buying). The opening credits do not play at the beginning of each episode (at least on every player I've tried). By "uncut" I guess they mean that none of the program has been edited out to make room for commercials...so for that this company has done what they advertised. I did notice some odd time-compression signs. Not as bad as trying to watch The Waltons on TVLand. I wonder if it's just an error they made when processing these digitally. Anyway, it didn't distract from my enjoyment.

I had no difficulty with the quiz. I tried it twice and it worked perfectly. Well designed questions.

The cast bios were very incomplete. What's there isn't bad.

If these are ever re-released in a better form I will ebay these and buy the newer versions. I'm crossing my fingers. But, still, kudos to this company for putting this series on DVD. Not bad, just should be better. I have seasons 2 & 3 to watch next and I can't wait! I gave this set ***/***** instead of **/***** because the price is right!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ain't nothing wrong with the sound on these discs.
I just love to watch these over and over, The colors are so pretty. We never had no color tv when I was a youngin. I guess our tv was as bad as the person who thinks these folks sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks. It's just great seein these stories years later and de-cipherin all the secret meaning hidden in the program. That Nellie Olsen sure is the devil. I can't wait to see the new series with Paris Hilton in the role. I am a little fraid how they gonna update the show but it's so mindless already. I better pray in church for it real good.

5-0 out of 5 stars happy to have family entertainment
Love it, and am happy to pass on these wonderful shows to my kids. Ahh the joys of not having cable TV...you get to choose what your children see! And LHOTP is happy for all!

5-0 out of 5 stars little house a childhood favorite
i was a young girl when little house on the prarie came on t.v. i grew up about the same age as melissa gilbert. it came on every monday night. my family time memory was my mother buying a bag a dorito patato chips and a bottle of pepsi and she would split the chips and the single bottle of pop with each of us three girls. we sat on the floor and never missed an episode. as i grew up, i started taping them on vhs so i could watch them whenever i wanted for the fear that someday they would take it off the air. now i am very pleased with the fact that i can buy the series on dvd. i have all 4 so far that are out and will continue buying them all. i really hope to see the seasons continue. my favorite episodes are the ones when dean butler joins the show. thanks for great memories little house on the prarie. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Little House on the Prairie by:Jessica Beckner
I love Little House on the Prairie. I'v only seen through the 7th season, but I can't wait to see season 8. All of my friends don't exactly like Little House, and I get on their nerves occasionaly when I talk about it. My favorite season on DVD so far is season 6 when Almanzo comes and also Percival!I strongly recomend the Little House on the Prairie searies to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars FULL EPISODE LIST & DESCRIPTIONS W/ ORIGINAL AIR DATES
First, please let me say that MICHAEL LANDON WAS A GENIUS, without him there would not be this series.

"Little House On The Prairie" Season Eight was the final year of the traditional series; season 9 and the following TV movies revolved around the new cast after Michael Landon and his family left the series. As a result, most fans of this beloved program consider this to be the final season and the best of this long running family friendly program.

Mary and Adam movie to New York in season eight and return for a Christmas visit with the entire family in the Ingallses little house. Nellie also moves and Mrs. Oleson adopts a new daughter who is even more warped (believe it or not) than Nellie ever was. Cassandra and James' uncle strikes it big and tries to steal his niece and nephew away from Charles and Caroline on the eve of their legal adoption. Caroline teaches Laura's class a very humanitarian lesson when Almonzo is away.

Here is a detailed list of ever episode from Season Eight:

The Reincarnation of Nellie (part 1) (October 5, 1981)
Percival and Nellie move New York so that Percival can run the family business. The Olesons decide adopt a girl named Nancy who is even more spoiled than Nellie ever was. Suffice it to say, Mrs. Oleson falls in love with her new adopted daughter.

The Reincarnation of Nellie(part 2) (October 5, 1981)
Coincidentally (because Nellie moved there in the previous episode), Adam and Mary move to New York at the beginning of the episode. Where Nellie was simply a spoiled brat, Nancy proves to be a demented creature hell-bent on causing trouble. With the help of Albert and Willie, Mrs. Wilder's students devise a plan to teach this monster a lesson.

Growin' Pains (October 12, 1981)
The entire Ingalls home is in disarray with all of the children living under one (small) roof. Albert is especially annoyed, especially with James. Charles takes the time to remind him that Laura and Carrie never made him feel unwelcome when he first came to live with them. James runs away because he feels he won't be missed. Albert goes after him and the brothers learn to get along before the come back home.

Dark Sage (October 26, 1981)
Dr. Baker gets a new associate, Dr. Caleb Ledoux. Dr. Ledoux finds that the town of Walnut Grove could use a lesson in tolerance, especially his new associate Dr. Baker. A women in labor needs immediate medical attention and her bigoted husband refuses to allow Dr. Ledoux to help her because he is African-American. Charles has to punch the ignorant bigot out so that his wife can get proper medical attention. In the end, Dr. Baker sees his mistakes and Dr. Ledoux agrees to stay in town.

A Wiser Heart (November 2, 1981)
Laura meets up with her sister-in-law, Eliza Jane at a literary conference in Arizona. The ladies get in a nasty fight because Eliza Jane thinks that Laura is keeping her from their teacher who Eliza has a crush on. Come to find out, the teacher wants to get closer to Laura who doesn't want to have any part of him. There's also a couple of funny scenes when Laura took a part-time job as a dishwasher (Leslie Landon-Etta Plum in season 9 - Michael Landon's daughter has a cameo as another dishwasher).

Gambini The Great (November 9, 1981)
Charles and Nels worry about the dangers of emulating a traveling circus performer who comes to Walnut Grove.

The Legend of Black Jake (November 16, 1981)
Although not one of my favorites, this episode is sort-of a screwball episode. It was not the usual drama; it was more humorous. Crooks come to town and kidnap Mr. Oleson trying to get Mrs. Oleson to pay ransom. They also kidnap several other people but leave town without hurting anyone.

Chicago (November 23, 1981)
Charles goes to Chicago to be with Mr. Edwards (a longtime Ingalls family friend, since the original pilot movie) because his adopted son John, Jr., died. The cause of John, Jr.'s death was a mystery and Charles and Mr. Edwards enlist the help of the newspaper that John worked for.

For The Love of Nancy (November 30, 1981)
Mean-spirited Nancy is at her most devilish in this episode. Elmer, an overweight schoolmate takes a liking to Nancy and foolishly thinks she befriended him. Elmer learns a priceless lesson in self-respect.

Wave of the Future (December 7, 1981)
Mrs. Oleson buys into a restaurant franchise causing Hester-Sue and Caroline to nearly quit because of all the extra work.

A Christmas They Never Forgot (December 21, 1981)
The entire Ingalls family, including Laura, Almonzo, Adam, Mary and Hester-Sue recall past Christmas memories around the Ingalls table. This is also Mary and Adam's final appearance.

No Beast So Fierce (January 4, 1982)
James makes friends with Gideon Hale, a schoolmate that stutters. There are hurt feelings when Gideon overhears James cruelly making fun of him. A wolf that follows James and Charles on a delivery trip may hold the key for bringing Gideon out of his shell.

Stone Soup (January 18, 1982)
Laura finds that balancing her career and managing Almonzo's orchard, while he and Charles are gone on a delivery trip to Arizona, too much to handle.

The Legacy (January 25, 1982)
The original episode shows a modern scene (from the 1980's) with a flashback to this episode. Charles beings making tables so that he could pass on a legacy. Charles soon realizes that memories of his family is a lot more important.

Uncle Jed (February 1, 1982)
Uncle Jed comes into a lot of money (he struck gold) and comes to claim his estranged niece and nephew. A court battle ensues with Jed telling Charles that he will never win.

Second Chance (February 8, 1982)
Hester-Sue's ex-husband comes to town trying to win her back. She reluctantly agrees to trust him again only to be let down.

Days of Sunshine, Days of Shadow (1) (February 15, 1982)
The Wilders' marriage is put to its first major test when Almonzo, soon after recovering from an illness, is stricken by a stroke. This was a ninety minute episode.

Days of Sunshine, Days of Shadow (2) (February 22, 1982)
Almonzo, bitter at his apparent life-crippling illness, nearly gives up on life, despite the birth of little Rose. His attitude nearly drives Laura to consider leaving her husband. A tornado that destroys the farmstead may hold the key to both of their futures.

A Promise To Keep (March 1, 1982)
Mr. Edwards comes back to Walnut Grove for good because Grace divorces him (he started drinking again and she and Alicia did not want to have anything to do with him). Mr. Edwards' longtime friendship with Charles is put to the test when Mr. Edwards risks Albert's safety while he's drunk.

A Faraway Cry (March 8, 1982)
A longtime friend of Caroline writes to her and asks for help. Her friend is pregnant and lives at a gold prospector's camp where there is an outbreak of influenza. With Dr. Baker's help, Caroline agrees to go because she knows that her dear friend wouldn't ask if she wasn't in need of dire assistance.

He Was Only Twelve (1) (May 3, 1982)
James joins Charles, Albert and Mr. Edwards as they travel to Sleepy Eye for a delivery. James is shot in a store robbery and goes into a coma.

He Was Only Twelve (2) (May 10, 1982)
When everyone has given up on poor James, Charles keeps his faith and hopes for the best. This is the final episode of "Little House On The Prairie" before it was renamed to "Little House: A New Beginning." This is also the last episode with the core cast of Charles and Caroline and their children, because they move away in the next season.

5-0 out of 5 stars The last season with Ma and Pa!!: (
This is last season with the Ingalls family (Pa, Ma, Albert, Carrie, James, and Cassandra), and in Season 9 the Carter family will move into the Ingalls' old house, while Pa moves his family to pursue other opportunites in a city (and we are left with just Laura, Almanzo, Rose, Mr. Edwards, and the townsfolk).

There is a lot of drama in this season (8): Almanzo gets hurt and cannot walk, then he and Laura lose their home, almost their relationship, and Eliza Jane tries to save the day and fails (all in one two-part episode).James gets shot and almost dies so Pa, slightly crazed, takes him away and erects an altar and prays for him out in the woods."Stone Soup" is a touching episode where a very pregnant Laura struggles to look after the dying tree plot.We are also introduced to Nancy (Harriet, in her sadness over Nellie moving away adopts a replacement) and her famous line "You HATE me!!"Nancy creates a lot of drama as she is more evil than Nellie.

As a big fan of the show, and of the real Laura Ingalls Wilder, I enjoyed this season. It is definitely not true to the books, terribly inaccurate, but as a television show, it is great.Out of the whole series, the first season was the closet in authenticity to Laura's fiction books with more unique plot lines. As the series progressed through the years, it moved further and further from the literature.I also highly recommend the pilot episode to true fans; it is not found on any of the season disks, only separate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahh the 8th Season :-)
The last season of Little House (if you don't count Little House: A New Beginning). This is a great series and a wonderful last season. While not especially fond of "James" and "Kassandra", they did provide intresting storylines such as "Growing Pains" and "He Was Only 12". In this season sadly "Nellie", "Percevial", "Mary" and "Adam" are gone and we are introduced to "Nancy" who in my opinion is pure evil, yet a nice additon as far as storylines go. Unfortunately after this, the Ingalls family leaves and the show shifts to "Laura" and "Almanzo" in the 9th Season. I hope they come out with the 9th season as well as the movies. While Alison Arngrim provides us with excellent commentaries and interviews, (Dean Butler is okay), I really hope Melissa Gilbert does one on this disc. Maybe they can get most of the cast to do an group interview. It seems that most of the cast don't talk about LH much, even though alot of older shows now are having reunion specials. Hopefully they can get together for this disc or at least Season 9. Can't wait till this comes out. LH is a wonderful show that all should watch :-)!

~I know as much about LHOTP as the adult who watched it when they were ten and i know that Baby Grace was born later in the series (season 4 to be exact)
~ So why is Caroline I. holding baby Grace on the cover of season 2 whenshe wasn't born until season 4????????

5-0 out of 5 stars Just to have these on DVD at all deserves 5 stars!
Plenty of people have already reviewed these DVD's complaining about the sound quality and other related gripes that are probably valid. However, I can't give this series any less than 5 stars simply because I'm so thrilled to have them available at last! Rather than reminisce about my vicarious childhood in Walnut Grove (which no one cares to hear), here are the episodes of Season Two, in case anyone wants to know exactly what they'll be buying. These episodes were first aired from September 10, 1975 to March 31, 1976.

The Richest Man in Walnut Grove
Four Eyes
Haunted House
In the Big Inning
The Campout
The Spring Dance
Remember Me, Parts 1 & 2

The Gift
His Father's Son
The Talking Machine
The Pride of Walnut Grove
A Matter of Faith
The Runaway Caboose

5-0 out of 5 stars Consider Yourself Part Of The Family!
This review refers to the 6 disc DVD set of "Little House on the Prairie..The Complete Season 2"....

So now by Season 2 of the Little House series, we really feel like part of the family. The beauty of having them on these DVD sets season by season, is having the pleasure of watching the characters grow, the relationships strengthen, and the love abundent, episode by episode. And how nice to share them with each new generation, as they are stories that may be enjoyed by the whole family and never get old. And ...without all the commercials!

Season 2 ran from 1975-1976. There are 21 episodes in all on 6 DVDs, for a total of about 18 hours of viewing pleasure for those that loved and still love this series. The stories range from whimsical to heart wrenching. All will move you in some way. The episodes included are: "The Richest Man In Walnut Grove"(Pa may have to work like a mule to provide for his family, but the love he recieves makes him rich in other ways),"Four Eyes","Haunted House","The Big Inning","The Campout","The Spring Dance" and the very touching 2 parter, "Remember Me"(Academy Award winner Patricia Neal is a dying widow who asks Charles to find a home for her children). You will also enjoy "Ebenezer Sprague","At the End of the Rainbow", "The Gift", "His Father's Son"(Mr. Edwards tries to bond with newly adopted son John Jr.), "The Talking Machine","The Pride of Walnut Grove", "A Matter of Faith"(I love this one...how DOES Caroline know exactly when to open the infection, so she won't lose her leg?), "The Runaway Caboose","Troublemaker","The Long Road Home", "For My Lady", "Centennial", "Soldiers Return"(this one took a bold step in 1976 to deal with drug addicted veterans), and finally "Going Home"(Charles wants to sell the Little House after being discouraged one more time by a tornado that ruined his crop).

If you are a big fan, you probably already know just by the titles what these stories are about, and for which ones you'll need to bring the along the Kleenex. And by now, we are also in tune to David Rose's wonderful and familiar music that sets the tone of the story and gives the perfect feel for each character.

I thought the DVDs were great. There are still no title credits for the major guest stars(but you'll recognize them), but the color correction is greatly improved, the picture clear and the stereo sound is great.Features include a photo gallery that shows various characters at different stages, some cast bios,and...the quiz works this time!(I aced it by the way). The fold out box opens nicely to the disc you are ready for and if you take a peek behind the folder in the back of the set you will find a nice brochure that lists all the episodes, what disc they are on and a brief summary of each story. Very Nice!

So gather the family around, "git out the way for Ole Dan Tucker"... and enjoy this treasure!...Laurie

2-0 out of 5 stars Show was GREAT but DVDs are NOT!
I can only assume people giving this DVD set a high rating are doing so for the emotional value they put on the Little House Show. The DVD set for Season One and Two are Horrible.

1) - Unlike what another has said the color is washed out terrible in some episodes.
2) - Video quality is average to poor.
3) - The sound track is OK to poor.
4) - Show openers are gone for a single common show opening clip.
5) - There are NO chapters. If you click next on your remote you end the episode. This is unheard of in DVD.
6) - There are NO extras... this is unheard of on DVD.

If you own a bunch of VHS tapes with kiddy finger prints all over your 27 inch TV screen then you may be fine with this. But if you own a nice television and are familiar with DVD quality and standards then this set and Season two both lack.

Things improve slightly in Season three where chapter points are added to the episodes & video and audio quality improves slightly.

People really should tell the objective truth when rating a product. All too often folks get on here and just VOTE for their favorite show with no regard to the fact others are reading these ratings to see HOW the product stands up. Just because you loved the Ingles growing up doesn't mean the studio should get a pass on delivering a weak product. How will that force them to do better next time?

If you truly LOVED Little House as we did then you should be OUTRAGED when it is presented so poorly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little House Seasons 1 - 4
These series are great. I bought series 2 first, and like it so much I bought series 1, and then 3 and 4.

It has been a long time since family entertainment was available as experienced in this series.

I would recommend them to anyone young and old.

When nothing is on T.V. we pop in a Little House and have enjoyed them everytime. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
For people who love LHOTP and have been aching to get them on dvd's for years - this is wonderful!! I love sitting down and watching the stories each night minus the ads and having a heartwarming feeling afterward.

People are being highly critical of the audio and dvd quality. I'm glad they're not souped up to be in 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS because it maintains its 1970's flavor just like the TV shows do! The DVD quality is fine - not sure why the complaints there. As for missing scenes, I am LHOTP addict and don't notice missing scenes from the way they aired on TV. THere are some Videos that ADDED a few bonus scenes, but if you compare the DVD's to television airing, it's all there. ADDED scenes are just a bonus, and you can't complain if they're not there.

ALL in all - if you love LHOTP and aren't a tech junkie looking for the maximum in DVD formats, you'll be well satisfied with these versions.

4-0 out of 5 stars glad to see the shows on dvd
i have read the reviews of not liking the quality of the shows, i thought that they were great. i am a huge fan of LHOTP and i am so excited that they have the shows on dvd. i will buys all seasons.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing DVD treatment for a great show...
"Little House on the Prairie" needs no defense or praise: it was a fabulous show, it easily could have lasted longer on television, and it remains eminently watchable and rewatchable today. Unfortunately, the show has suffered in DVD treatment. Many episodes are inexplicably cut, as if they were taken from a TBS rerun feed instead of the original film. The picture quality could also be much better. It is unfortunate that such a fabulous show has suffered so on DVD. LHOTP deserves better. I wish I could recommend these DVDs, but perhaps with enough fan complaint better editions (maybe also with some extras!) will one day become available.

3-0 out of 5 stars POOR QUALITY DVD- But The Price Is Right
I have to agree with one of the readers remarks. True Little House Fans should realize that this project was throwen together in a few minutes.

For one thing, the company knew they where not selling the best quality DVD's, or the price would have been ten times higher. If they had behind the scenes footage and interviews etc, as well as better scene selections. You can imagine how much the price would be jacked up. Instead of paying 45.00 per season expect to pay 80.00 to 90.00. The more time they spend on it, the more of a cost it will become.

This is one of the best TV family series that has been aired. I agree on that statement, but people have to realize that the younger generation has not growen up with Little House, if they did it was becuase of the parents interest. NBC or any other company will not release another version of Little House seasons becuase there will be no demand, or it will be much more expensive as well as Limited addition. They also have obviously realized that people still do watch the show or they would have NOT released it on DVD.

As for visual quality, I agree that it can be as bad as watching a VHS, but as one viewer put it, its better then pressing the fast foward button and waiting fer certain episodes to be aired. No commercials is a treat as well.
I encourage everyone to continue purchasing the series who just want to watch the show and don't care about extra tidbits DVD's normally offer . For people complaining about quality- you won't get far becuase the price more then reasonable. Stop buying the series if your not satisfied and write the company a complaint. They will view complaints if enough people write.

The show itself deserves 5 stars.. Melissa Gilbert did get on my nerves a few times... And it was way off from the novels. But again Michael Landon does a Superb job. I can't wait for Season 6!! In my opinion is the best season.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first two!
After buying and viewing season 1 & 2 I was looking forward to season 3. After viewing the first episode it reminded me of my own VHS copies where I cut out the commercials. I bought DVD because of quality, not wanting VHS quality.

I saw the first Little House years ago. My family and I were hooked. I waited years for the episodes to come out. I planned to buy all. I will wait to read the reviews on the next seasons before I buy.

Please, someone straighten this out!

4-0 out of 5 stars Season 3
I have enjoyed all the little house DVD's but it seems like they are missing some of the shows I thought this was for the whole season, but "The Race" should have had a show before it. What happened, in Series 2 Laura bought her mom a stove for Christmas in exchange gave Nellie her horse, bunny, now in the Race she has bunny back. Didn't Nellie get in an accident on Bunny and fake paralyzed so then Mr. Olsen gave Laura back the horse or something. What happened to that show?

3-0 out of 5 stars OUt of Order
I used to watch Little House as a child and was glad to finally relive some of those memories on DVD. I don't recall scenes so couldn't say if any have been cut, but I was disappointed "The Race" and "Bunny" were out of order. Watching the race, it felt like I had missed something, or at the very least forgotten something from season two, but then "Bunny" assured me I hadn't missed a thing. The editing should have been better in that regard.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bought seasons 1-3, can only view 1 & 2, Ireland
Having read a review by a french fan I realised that I could order from USA and watch in europe. So ordered the 3 pack version. I was delighted, really enjoyed season 1 then season 2 even better. Imagine my dissapointment when season 3 would not work. It stated Wrong Zone. So be aware.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great series, mediocre DVD
When I pay hard earned money for a Boxed Set of a classic TV series like "Little House" I expect to get what I pay for. This is not the case here. Season One and Two were acceptable but Season III has the flaws described by so many others in previous reviews. Contrary to popular belief this DVD set is NOT REMASTERED OR UNCUT. In almost every episode there are scenes that have been deleted or are edited in some way or another. The video and audio quality is excellent. There are some classic episodes in this season....the best being "Bunny"...the one where Nellie falls off Laura's horse and pretends to be crippled...the payoff here is classic and wonderful! "To Live With Fear"....the two parter where Mary is seriously injured and must have surgery and the Ingalls have no money to pay for the operation. "Fred" the comical episode about an honary Billy Goat.....watch Mrs. Oleson get it in this one!! "The Bully Boys" where Caroline is attacked by a trio of rough men. "Blizzard" where most of the town's children are lost out in a blizzard on Christmas Eve. "The Election" a very touching episode. And my personal favorite of the season "Little Girl Lost" where Carrie falls down a mine shaft. The series is wonderful and evokes wonderful memories. They just don't make them like this anymore. But the DVDs have got to get better. I'd rather not have scene index if they're going to edit out parts of scenes. These DVDs are supposed to be remastered and uncut. This is not the case with this edition. 5 stars for the series but 3 for the DVD. "Little House" deserves better. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but quality could be better
Compared to the first season of Little House, the fifth season has gone downhill as far as picture quality and continuity from one scene past commercial breaks to another scene. I think the people who make these DVDs are getting tired and sloppy! The picture is not as clear as season one and I feel like I am getting ripped off on the end of certain scenes that they just abruptly cut off. I still love to watch but a DVD should be better than this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tear Jerkers
We love the Little House series. Our 20 year old son watches these DVD's with us....about the only thing he is willing to share his time.My biggest complaint is that my wife cries through every single episode....I have spent more on Kleenex then the DVD's themselves!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Little house season 5 review
As with the other seasons, I thoroughly enjoy having them on dvd. The only complaint I have is that on part 1 of "There's No Place Like Home", they edit out about 10 minutes worth of scenes. I always thought that box sets were uncut. I hope that the company does not do that with other episodes. I have only noticed this one. Other than that, it's great.

5-0 out of 5 stars by far the best DVD release for the series......
Little House on the Prairie is on its 5th season at last for the DVD's, and I have to say that Goldhil has been taking it up a notch with each season release--they keep getting better and better! At last, in addition to scene selection, season-appropriate cover art and a good navigation menu, we are finally getting some extras. Two exclusive interviews are provided on this set: one from Alison Arngrim (Nellie) and the other from Dabbs Greer (Reverend Alden). Both have grown a great deal over the years but they look and sound exactly the same--aside from the short hair, Arngrim genuinely has not changed a bit! She still has that Nellie Oleson "glow"! =) What they have to say on these inteviews is very interesting and will be thoroughly enjoyed by any fans--how fun to see a bit of the cast as they appear today!

These interviews were quite a surprise to see on the DVD's, especially since I hadn't heard anything about them beforehand, and they are a nice touch to the DVD collection. The episodes, of course, are fantastic as well; from the Ingalls family's return to Walnut Grove to their adoption of Albert to Mary's wedding and other fun and often touching events, these 5th season shows hit at just the right frequency. This point in the series was probably the most pivotal, with Mary's recent entrance into blindness and the Ingalls' decision to take in little Albert as a member of their family. Their friends the Garveys also assume a larger role here, but for them their real trials arrive in Season 6.

As for the visual and audio quality on this season set....that whole concept never bothered me at all, because we all know that the DVD's look and sound 50 times better than they ever did on television, but I did notice that a few episodes (particularly "The Cheaters") looked almost black and white at times. I never noticed that before, but I did here. It is not a big deal and should be fine for most, but I know that some fans are affected by the color and picture. Regardless, I think I speak for a lot of fans when I say THANK YOU for releasing Season 5 with some extras and continuing with the great improvements. If there is any DVD TV series to collect, "Little House" is most certainly the one!

3-0 out of 5 stars On Par With Season 4 Quality
This set is on par with the poor video & audio transfer seen in Season 4, complete with chopped-off scenes at the commercial breaks. The show however is great, and you will still enjoy it despite the terrible transfer to DVD. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Series - but DVD very poor production quality
I grew up watching this series and today it's a very refreshing break from the garbage and filth we are bombarded with on a daily basis everytime we turn on the TV. Even commercials are rank with crudeness these days. Anyway, if you would love to be reminded that the world hasn't always been so disgusting, vulgar, and violent then you will enjoy this series.

I was very disappointed, however, with the production quality of the DVDs. There are no subtitles for the hearing impaired, no special features at all and, most annoying, there are no chapter breaks between scenes allowing you to skip ahead. Instead you have to "forward" through it just like with your VCR (so what's the point of having it on DVD?). Also, the claim that the films have been "restored" is either a joke or a lie as many scenes are peppered with white specks and other visual debris. Also, there are moments when the screen looks like a video tape with the tracking gone awry. At times it almost looks as though they copied a bad video onto DVD. It seems they rushed through the production of these DVDs with little concern for quality. In spite of this, I do not regret my purchase and have enjoyed watching these with my family, including my three teenagers who have all become fans of the show.

And to Amazon let me say how annoying it is that any moron can write a "review" of something they obviously did not purchase or spend any time watching but rather are only posting a review because they have an adolescent need to rant against a particular genre which they have absolutely no appreciation for. Such reviews are a waste of everyone's time, including the person writing the "review". When only 2 out of over 50 people find a review helpful, I think it would be a service to everyone to pull it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best money I've spent on DVD
I have hundreds of DVD's of all types and have enjoyed this series with my family more than anything else, we're not quite through all and we'll be sad when they're done!

2-0 out of 5 stars "What an assume Christmas present!"
I ordered this DVD set for my wife who is a huge Little House fan. I was confident that this was one of the best Christmas presents I ever gave her. My wife loves it. She had been taping episodes for quite some time from a TV station that didn't come in very well. Nearly everyday after she got home from work, she would watch the episode that she had just taped, even though she's seen all of them many times. Well, now that she has the 1st 3 seasons, she still watches an episode after work, but instead of the fuzzy picture on the VHS tape, she watches an episode on DVD. I must admit I end up watching some of them myself. It's unfortunate that no one makes quality shows like this anymore. A lesson to be learned in every episode. (By the way, the picture quality is fine, definitely not an issue for shows that are more than 20 years old.)

I think I even learned something from the episode we watched after work today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Little House is the Best Show Ever!
Wow at last I can watch those kids run through that field over and over again with out waiting for re-runs! A place where it's always an innocent sunny day filled with lessons about doll making and dress sewing! Where going to school meant dealing with the pranks of Nellie Olsen instead of being killed by guns! Golly gee! Here is irrefrutable proof that everything will be available on DVD and that the most sickingly sweet, mind numbing shows will forever entertain the feeble minded! No there is a thought..or lack of..put a disc in I ready for the pretty praire again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great! Excellent!! Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say that the title of my review is true. To the Little House on the Prairie fans, you will love these seasons. Finally for once, you can accually see the little house series, without having to go to the nearest video store, or bid higher prices on auctions that you will pay a great deal of money for, when it is right here on amazon. you get free shipping, no tax, and yet the relaxing little house sequels. I also want to mention that you should look into the 4th season, that has not been released yet, and will be avalible February 18, 2004. I had ordered this item last november with the pilot movie as well. I hope you enjoy these shows.
On a 1-10 scale, 10 being the best thes would be a:

not a one, or a ten, this would definily be a +71.7

5-0 out of 5 stars The best show of all time!
I wish there were shows like this still on TV today! We got this DVD for a family Christmas present a couple of years ago and we're starting to collect the whole series on DVD.

The actors are awesome, especially Michael Landon. Charles Ingalls was about the kindest, smartest, and sweetest father you'll find in any TV show or movie, ever. Karen Grassle was pretty good as his wife, Caroline Ingalls. Not all of her performances in the series are that great, but in this, the Pilot Episode, she really shines. Melissa Sue Anderson is perfect in the role of sometimes annoying, but still lovable, oldest daughter Mary. Of course, then there's Melissa Gilbert as Laura. Next to Michael Landon, she exhibited the most talent. Finally, the twins Lindsey and Sidney Greenbush play the adorable baby of the family, Carrie.

This is such a touching story, and true to boot. A family who sticks together through hard times--what could be better? One warning, though: if you see this pilot you'll find youself buying all the other Little House DVDs there are.

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT included on the Complete Season sets
This is the ONLY single disc release that is not being included on the Complete Season box sets being released by the same company. All of the 2-hour specials, etc. being released individually are also included on the box sets, but this pilot episode is not. So, if you are a Little House completist, buy this disc to add to your box set collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best pilot of all
Little house on the prairie is the greatest show ever.
The pilot was not aired here in France. I know folks who had bought the VHS so I could see it. But I ordered the DVD anyway.
The quality is great, the pictures are wonderful, much more than the VHS. It is so great to hear the original voices! And funny to hear the Osage chef speaking french with such an accent! :-))
Anyway, the DVD is worth the buy, you won't be disappointed and although it is encoded region 1 ONLY, you can perfectly see it with ALL DVD player as it's written behind "zones (1-6)".
I absolutely recommend this article for all the fans and the others. It's the beginning of all, you discover the characters, you love them!
Everybody acts so well they don't look like acting. It seems that you are looking your dreamed-neighbours by the window!!
Well, buy it, even in other countries than USA, because it's not very expensive regarding its value. ... Read more

The premiere season of Michael Landon's Highway to Heaven is consolidated into this collector’s edition box set of seven discs containing 24 episodes of faith and love. The television series (1984-1989) has a loyal following because of its compelling storylines and uplifting messages characteristic of Landon, an icon of family-friendly entertainment since the early days of Little House on the Prairie and Bonanza. An angel on assignment from God is disguised as "everyman" Jonathan Smith in order to comfort--and sometimes miraculously guide--the lost and suffering through various dilemmas. Smith and his earthly cohort, ex-cop Mark Gordon (Victor French), journey across country to work as horse trainers, bellhops, baby-sitters--whatever the task requires. The collection leads with the two-part pilot episode that establishes Smith and Gordon's friendship. Other highlights of the collection include the two-part "Thoroughbreds" with guest star Helen Hunt as a woman who learns to risk love while battling cancer; and "Help Wanted: Angel" where Gordon is cast in a movie and falls in love with the leading lady. Especially poignant is a bonus documentary, "Michael Landon: Memories with Laughter and Love," a tribute to the prolific star including film clips and reminiscences by family members. 1-0 out of 5 stars These are edited episodes - I want the missing scenes!
"Highway to Heaven" is one of my all-time favorite television programs so I was pleased to learn about the DVD release of Season One.Michael Landon and Victor French shared a great friendship as Jonathan and Mark and their scenes together are priceless. It's too bad that many of them have been cut from this collection as these are the syndicated episodes of "Highway to Heaven".

I have two of these episodes on old VHS tapes. When they aired on NBC-TV, the episode "Going Home, Going Home" was approximately two minutes longer than its DVD counterpart; "Another Song for Christmas" was approximately three minutes longer.Think about this:If each show is missing between two to three minutes and you multiply this by the season total of 24 episodes, you get the equivalent of one missing hour of programming! And for the most part, the scenes dropped are those memorable buddy moments between Jonathan and Mark.

The syndicated episodes of "Highway to Heaven" closed with a tag for Genesis Entertainment. On the back cover of the DVD box is a logo for Genesis International. It would seem, presumably, that these are the same entity.

All I can say regarding this DVD set is that I'm glad I kept my 20 year old VHS copies of "Highway to Heaven".I have scenes that others will NEVER see and that's unfortunate.Mr. Landon's work was the best thing that ever happened to television and it should also be the best thing that ever happened to TV on DVD.Perhaps the powers that be will release a COMPLETE season two with a bonus feature containing all the missing scenes from season one.Now that's a collection that would earn FIVE stars!I'll be waiting for it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you for these wonderful DVDs
I love this show - I really do.It deserves more than 5 stars! It feels so good when the "good" prevails, but that doesen't mean it's kitsch. Its not ktisch at all.It just makes you feel good (every single series!) - it makes you a happier person.
Everyone who has a heart, will love these DVDs.And there is a catharsis too - I have to cry almost every singel series.I can't wait till the other Seasons come out (hopefully soon).

5-0 out of 5 stars Heaven Bound
It's hard to put into words just what this series did for myself and my family. My late Grandfather, my mom, and myself have shared many many times just sitting and watching, and even crying. We need more and more shows like this to grace our televisions today. It showed the most important, precious gift anyone can possess, love!I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Landon brought heart to television
Something you don't really find in television today...heart.Michael Landon became a master of orchestrating stories of sentiment, feeling, and genuine love.Ever since Little House on the Praire, he used these elements to help people to realize that there is love in a world that says there isn't.That people DO care.

I truly believe that Michael Landon was a man creating television that was ahead of its time.People often scoff at both series for being too sentimental.Landon proved that there isn't any way to be too sentimental when it comes down to treating people with love and respect.

I loved Highway to Heaven when it was on television for its great, heart-felt stories...of people in need, people who felt that nobody loved or wanted them, people who felt lost and confused...Landon's Jonathan Smith and companion Mark Gordon spread a little light around to those people.

One nice thing about watching this show...you always felt good at the end of the episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heaven Can't Wait
Highway To Heaven is a series that I truly believed to deserve more than recognition for its main actors Michael Landon & Victor Gordon, 2 actors I admired so much in this show that in just about every episode screened there would never be a dry in the place, due to the great story lines week after week.
I have to say in all the episodes ever screened, my personal favourite episode was when Mark fell in love with Stella only to be told the sad news she was dying, but Mark didn't care, he still wanted to marry her regardless, a sign of true love.
It is sad to know both actors have now passed on, but now with the series available on DVD, I get to relive all those precious exciting episodes once again, Amazon.Com you truly have made my home Heavenly once again thank-you. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A Bing Crosby Christmas
I was very dissapointed when I watched A Bing Crosby Christmas. There was very little of his old Christmas shows and a lot of stuff I didn't care to see. If I had wanted a biography on Bing Crosby I would have ordered a biography. I would send this DVD back if I could...don't waste your money on it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bing was the best.
This was a pretty good dvd but I too wish it had been longer and some of the scenes had not been cut short. It's definitely still worth the purchase. The Andy Williams best of Christmas dvd is also very enjoyable. Now I hope some studio will put together a King Family Christmas dvd (remember them with Tina Cole?)or the Boone Family holiday specials.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings cheery holiday happiness ANY time of the year
Truly, this DVD, along with White Christmas are two of our favorites. Mother, as she sinks into Alzheimer's induced dementia, ALWAYS is cheered by the great music, and the clips are wonderful to watch. It's great seeing Bing and Jackie Gleason singing "A couple of loafers"... the old-timers surely did make 'em right.

I *thoroughly* enjoy this DVD. The only sad part is that I'd love it to be longer... It's got everything -- the crooner is great. Now, I've got a list of the 70 Christmas songs he recorded, so you know what my next goal is!

Enjoy the movie. Oh, and I didn't find any chatting overpowering -- more informative. It felt like the shows, friendly, cheerful, and, some of the early TV programs appeared to be just folks (very very talented folks mind you) getting together to have a wonderful time and celebrate the holidays with us.

Merry Christmas!

The program on this DVD is basically a retrospective produced in the early 1990s for public television that was originally called "A Bing Crosby Christmas: Just Like the Ones You Used to Know" that was narrated by Gene Kelly and hosted by Bing's widow, Kathryn Crosby, who since went on to star in the Broadway version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "State Fair." The program itself features clips from fifteen of Bing's classic television specials, concentrating on the period from the early 1960s onwards when he included Kathryn and their three children in the programs. For those of us who grew up with these specials -- and they were a staple of every holiday season for Baby Boomers -- Bing's family can be seen growing up before our eyes. Yes, it does include the classic duet that Bing recorded with David Bowie of "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy" that was taped a month before Bing's sudden death of a heart attack while playing golf in Spain in October of 1977. But it also includes clips with guest stars such as Fred Astaire, Mary Martin, Jackie Gleason, Carol Burnett and Bernadette Peters, among others, and of course, Bing closing as he always did, singing Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," heard here across several performances and key changes. The only down side of these clips is that most are heavily narrated over the music itself which limits their appeal over multiple viewings/listenings. The bonus features alone are more than worth the price of the disc, however, including an extended portion of a live Bing Christmas special from the mid-1950s that included Bing and Frank Sinatra having an hilarious, full-of-inside-jokes "sing-off" against one another, including Sinatra taking the Hope role in the title song to "The Road to Morocco" only to have Hope himself show up in protest. Louis Armstrong and Rosemary Clooney also make appearances. There are also some scratchy clips from "Holiday Inn," including Bing's first-ever introduction of "White Christmas" by a cozy late-night fire to Marjorie Reynolds, and "Bell's of St. Mary's" as well. There is also an amusing early sound short and Bing's first ever film appearance called "Blue of the Night" after his signature tune of the same name where Bing plays himself meeting a fan who claims to be engaged to him (she only knows his voice from the radio and doesn't know what he looks like) and includes an hilarious scene where Bing sings her to sleep pretending he has a portable radio and later has to convince an Irish cop (Bud Jamison, who played similar roles in Three Stooges shorts of the 1930s) that he really is Bing. "Well, if you are," says Jamison, "give us some of that whistling stuff to prove it." There is also a useful Bing bio and an accurate and thorough discography of every Christmas song Bing recorded during his long and memorable career. All in all, a fun collection for Bing fans as well as fans of Christmas. Come to think of it, isn't that just about everybody?

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all baby boomers.
This video is a must for all baby boomers. It wasn't Christmas without watching the Bing Crosby Christmas Special. My favorite clip is Bing with David Bowie singing The Peace Carol/Little Drummer Boy. These clips with Bing Crosby are great to watch with your children and grandchildren. Christmas songs recorded today can't compare to the Bing Crosby Christmas Specials. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So what if it is already in the complete set?
Granted you can get these in the complete set. But what if you don't want to get the complete set and just want this or any other single show on a dvd? Don't see the need to spend $80 just to get shows I don't want to see in order to see the one I do want to see.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT SHOW!! BUT SAVE $$ WAIT FOR RELEASE OF COMPLETE SEASON
Hurray for NBC. They are finally putting all the episodes on DVD. A well put investment if you are a fan of the show. I have always wanted too see one episode and have to wait months untill the aired it again. Dont waste money on something you can get foreven better when th 8th season comes out.
Meanwhile checkout Season 1-3 and at the end of Jan Season 4 Where Mary goes blind and introduces Character Adam Kendall. Highly reccomend buying Seasons instead of individual episodes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Included on the Complete Season set!
In a very unclear and probably intentionally confusing marketing move, both of these episodes are or will be available on the Complete Season box sets being released by the same company. This disc includes the Christmas episodes from Seasons 1 and 8. Season 1 is already available on DVD in a complete set, including this episode. Season 8 will be available in the near future. Unless you must have this Season 8 episode now, you are much better off to wait and buy the complete sets (a much better value). ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Included on the Complete Season set!
In a very unclear and probably intentionally confusing marketing move, this and all of the other "2-hour TV special" Little House DVDs being released separated are actually included on the Complete Season box sets being released by the same company. I purchased three of these "specials" before realizing that they were all 2-part episodes to be found on the complete season sets. While I don't have a problem with these 2-part shows being released separately, I don't understand the need for it and I really, really wish that it would be made clear somewhere on the packaging. Considering that these single disc releases have no special features, this is the worst example of DVD "double dipping" I've seen in a long time!!

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
This is, as always, a great addition to the "Little House" series and consistently delivers that same inspiring message of family, faith, and love. The basic storyline follows Charles Ingalls' struggle to cope with his mother's death and, even more so, the emotional decline in his father. Charles finally manages to bring him home to the family, hoping it will help. Indeed, spending time with everyone--especially little Laura--works wonders in rebuilding the man's spirit until Laura gets into an accident with her horse and blames her grandfather for it. Feeling guilty and disgusted with himself, Grandpa takes off without telling anyone, but in the end it is Laura who accepts her own mistake and takes up the struggle to bring him back.

Some fans may be disappointed with the way the episode ends, but it is still a wonderful story that makes you feel good and is worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful....great memories of a terrific show
Hands down, "I'll Be Waving as You Drive Away" is a classic in the "Little House on the Prairie" series and is something you'll definitely want to see if you're a fan of the show. Indeed, it is a critical turning point, both on the show and in the true-to-life books, and it launches some drastic changes in the entire Ingalls family. When fifteen-year-old Mary is stricken with blindness, it is her initial denial and her family's fear and guilt that makes for a very emotional first few months. Mary's parents send her to a top-notch school for the blind, where she refuses to learn at first but is pulled in the right direction by her patient teacher Adam Kendall. In time, they form a loving bond that will last forever, and Mary's character matures a hundred times over through her experience.

This is a beautiful episode, and it is easy to see why actress Melissa Sue Anderson was nominated for an Emmy for her performance here as Mary. This entire show is filled with many memorable, touching, and sometimes shattering moments that test a family's strength and inspire you. Anyone who takes the time to appreciate this wonderful show will definitely see that.

Wonderful episode, superb TV series...highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST episode of the 4th season!!!!!!!
This is televison at its BEST in the 1970's and LHOTP at its BEST!!!!! the acting is superb and this is the season finale for season 4, this is also the most pivotal point in the LHOTP storylines. the episode is all about Mary going blind and how the Ingalls deal with Mary's blindness. 5 stars out of 5

5-0 out of 5 stars Takes you back...
This is one of my absolute favorite episodes of Little House on the Prairie. This is where the character of Adam is introduced. Finally the girls are starting to grow up. Mary is stricken blind and after much denial and fear finally overcomes the shock of it all, and finds her way back. Adam helps her through her struggle with tough love, and Mary is able to be the teacher that she always wanted to be. ... Read more
