Description

America's favorite entertainer, Tim Allen, is at it again as commodities broker Michael Cromwell, king of the Wall Street jungle. With money, power, and an engagement to a beautiful fashion designer, he has it all. But when Michael travels to the Amazon to finalize the divorce from his first wife -- a jungle doctor -- she reveals that he also has a blowdart-shooting, giant-spider-carrying, 13-year-old son, Mimi-Siku. Cultures clash when Mimi is entrusted by his tribal chief to bring back fire from the Statue of Liberty. Back home in New York, Michael must somehow convince Mimi that pets are not for eating and it's not nice to chase people with your killer spider. But when Michael's partner (Martin Short) crosses a Russian mob boss in a coffee bean deal, Mimi and Michael must use all their jungle skills in a hysterical father/son rescue. Now you can bring home the hilarious new hit comedy adventure from the studio that brought you HOME IMPROVEMENT and the box office smash THE SANTA CLAUSE. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Disney Family Film That Will Bring A Smile To Your Face
Comedians Tim Allen & Martin Short along with newcomer Sam Huntington star in the hilarious Disney re-make of 'Little Indian, Big City.' In this version Allen portrays workoholic Michael Cromwell, a business minded man who travels to the Amazon in order to have the last divorce papers signed by his ex-wife, Patrica. Patrica left Michael 13 years ago pregnant with their son & unluckily for Michael his trip to the rain forest also scores him a meeting with his now 13 year old son, Mimi Siku (Huntington.)

Michael is forced to take Mimi to his home, in New York, in order for Mimi to complete a task given to him by the tribal leader. The task being to bring back fire from the Statue of Liberty. But Michael has to much of a busy schedule, in spending time with his fashion designer fiancee, planning the wedding, & finding a buyer for 5 tons of coffee beans, to spend time with Mimi. But Mimi's jungle instincts make it hard to keep him cooped up.

Also starring future teen idol LeeLee Sobieski, Jobeth Williams, Valerie Mahaffey, & Lolite Davidovich. This film is great when you need cheering up.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent movie for the whole family
Tim Allen, Martin Short and others shine in "Jungle 2 Jungle", one of the greatest Disney family films ever. The story is enjoyable, the scenery is great, the acting is top-notch, and overall, the film is hilarious. The whole family will enjoy this movie. Can't wait for a DVD release.

1-0 out of 5 stars Jungle 2 Jungle
This Film is the second most appaling film (placed just fractionaly under "blue crush") I have endured in my short life. The film was so awfull that i was hugely supprised to see that walt disney had produced this film, i was aware that the standard of the films had been going down hill, but this, this was compleate and utter bilge. To start with the characters were so hugly unbelivable and cliche. Tim allen (who befor i thought of as a respected actor) who is Micheal, a highly paid trades-man in new york says to his newly found son as they are "bonding" in the Jungle " how far are we going, these shoes cost me five thousand dollars". or some other rubbish along those lines. But to be fair that could not even compare to most horrific and mind numminly stupid ending that does acually beat "blue crush" .When father and son unite in some slapstick comedey, you know the usual vases over heads etc. The one thing i did enjoy in "Junle 2 Jungle" was when Micheal (Tim Allen) shots his cat, this in it's self wasn't funny it was the stuffed cat that was used that was funny. It seemed that Disney had run out of money, or enthusiasim and that one of the camera men had stolen his daughters cuddley-toy cat to ues and as Tim Allen held it up (trying to wake it up) you could see quiet blatently that is was by no way a real cat.

In conclusion, if you want to see one of the most awfull films made in history then please go ahead and buy it, wast your money if not on this then on some other some other appaling film. As i saud befor this IS the second worst film i have ever seen

3-0 out of 5 stars Dominic Keating ... from enterprise is in this movie
I am a HUGE TIM ALLEN fan. This movie was good, it was not a good as the Santa clause 1 or 2. BUT.. it was good. I was just watching it cause it was on tv and.. Dominic Keating ... wa sin this movie. He is on enterprise (current startrek!!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Jungle to unbelievable
Jungle to Jungle is a modern version of Little Indian Big City. (see my review). Although this film is funnier, better acted(Tim Allen rocks!), and more entertaining, I didn't feel the boy(Sam Hungington) that played Mimi was born in the jungle at all. Don't get me wrong, he is a wonderful actor and the girls will love his bod, although he did a great job he didn't come across on film as believable. In Little Indian Big City the boy was believable. Sam Huntington spoke as well as a Harvard lawyer and jungle boys don't speak that well since they told us straight out that he couldn't read.
This film takes place in New York City. Little Indian Big City takes place in Paris. Mimi climbs the Statue of Liberty, pins the neighbors pigeon against the wall, cooks his dad's friends prize fish and yes, gets the girl.
The weird thing about this film I think: A half naked boy walks down the street in New York and nothin happens to him? Unbelievable.
I liked the film because of Tim Allen and Sam Huntington. Allen is funny and Huntington is, well.. see the film. You will like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For those fans who love old-fashioned MOVIE-movies!
What a marvelous film. An absolutely picture-perfect recreation of a era not recently seen in modern film...the Depression.
I had no idea that in the year 1938, this horse occupied more column inches in the newspapers than Roosevelt (#2) or Hitler (#3). One out of three Americans heard the climactic match race on the radio. 40 million people.
Nowadays, it seems we can't even get one out of three Americans to vote.
The story is well summarized in other reviews.
I'd like to point out an amazing effort by the writer/director Gary Ross. There are so many delightful moments...thoughtful touches that "tell the story" in most powerful ways. And this is a great story told VERY well.
The inter-jockey interplay during actual races is terrific. A decision to NOT show a tragic event on-screen, followed by agonizingly silent segments, are far more effective than a traditional special-effect-and-sweeping-orchestral-flourish moment. Horse races are always cleanly conveyed...you know who's where, and what our jockey is thinking.
"Our jockey" being Red Pollard, sharply portrayed by Tobey Maguire. Even better is Chris Cooper. Although he finally has received recognition from the industry, I don't think the public knows how truly gifted he is. He's a joy to watch.
Jeff Bridges, as usual, is solid. He normally elevates his material above it's source, but here he doesn't have to. Ross' screenplay is witty, poetic...it has depth and detail.
As the director, Ross does the same from behind the camera. Just as poetic, with lovely images, thrilling racing sequences, some drop-dead gorgeous vistas...well done Mr. Ross!
Everything from the production design, to the cinematography, to the music (can Randy Newman EVER do wrong?) is so "right" for this movie, that you won't notice it until after the credits roll.
You're WAY too busy being caught up in the tale of this amazing horse, his owner, his trainer and his jockey.
There are very few guarantees in the movie biz. If you have a fondness for the type of movies "they don't make anymore", you will enjoy this film. Guaranteed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Triple Crown Winner
Writer/director Gary Ross has made a triumphant film out of Laura Hillenbrand's beloved bestseller. Like the original author, Ross gathers the strands of his story slowly, showing how the lives of three initially unrelated people - an owner, a trainer and a jockey - converge at a single point, the racehorse phenomenon known as Seabiscuit.

Both Hillenbrand and Ross have conceived of Seabiscuit as a metaphor for his time, a beacon of hope and inspiration for a despairing, Depression-ravaged nation. He is certainly that and more for the three troubled men whose lives he touches, providing each with the opportunity to overcome immense odds, achieve some form of redemption, and put some meaning back into his life.

Given its "inspirational" subject matter, "Seabiscuit" could easily have dissolved into little more than a sappy "feel-good" movie. Luckily for us, the low-keyed approach Ross has taken towards the material purges it of sentimentality. The movie is upbeat and heartwarming, yet we rarely feel as if the film is pushing our buttons in any obviously manipulative way. Much of the credit goes to Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper and Tobey Maguire, three superb actors who know how to underplay their parts to achieve maximum effect. William H. Macy provides a wonderful comic turn as the hilariously overwrought and corny racetrack announcer who reflects the gee-whiz tone of a nation captivated by this amazing animal.

Visually, the film is superb, thanks to John Schwarztman's lovely cinematography, which imbues the bucolic 1930's setting with a kind of nostalgic glow, as well as to the handsome art direction and costume design that perfectly capture the look of the era. The horserace sequences have been masterfully staged and edited and rank with the best ever put on film.

"Seabiscuit," clearly one of the best mainstream movies of 2003, is a true first place finisher.

1-0 out of 5 stars Seabiscuit's a loser
This movie is stunningly awful. Hollywood took an exciting and terse book and poured five cans of sugar over it. Each component of the film, barring the acting, is terrible. Randy Newman cartoonishly narrates the movie with a ridiculous "period" score and yet, out of nowhere, a track from Moby's over-sampled PLAY appears. The completely misguided voice-over narrative attempts to give the film some historical legitimacy and extra weight. All it does is add gravity to and repeatedly stall the momentum of what should have been a balls out movie. This movie lacks every quality that the horse, as described in the book, had. Its cinematography is grossly opulent, the screenplay is stuffed with self-importance, and the film moves at a snail's pace. One hour into the film and NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. Gary Ross, creator of the equally maudlin and hit-you-in-the-face-with-a-message Pleasantville, keeps the unnecessary history of the three principle characters at the expense of, incredibly, some of the horse races. Worst of all are the horse-racing segments themselves. The races are strangely uninvolving, and knowing that in most shots Tobey Maguire isn't actually on the horse detaches the viewer from the experience. By the end, I started skipping chapters of the DVD and found that doing so made ZERO DIFFERENCE except for the pleasure of knowing I'd kept twenty minutes of my life from being trapped on the back of this lame Seabiscuit. Someone should bar Tobey Maguire and Gary Ross from coming within one hundred feet of each other, because the results of their meetings are excruciating for American movie goers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull
MOVIE REVIEW: When this came out, my Mom really wanted to see it. I on the other hand did not, but being the nice son I am I took her to see it... Man I am glad I did!
Taking place through about twenty years, Seabiscuit tell the true story of finding hope in the least of all places. Jeff Bridges plays Charles Howard who made his riches off the automobiles before the great depression. Tobey Maguire plays Red Pollard, a jockey seperated from his parents ate the age of 15. And last Chris Cooper plays Tom Smith(he is the only character that did not loose money or family due to the depression) he lost his happyness when roads took over the plains of the west. The First act of the movie shows these three characters lives, and how they all meet. The second act shows the underdog seabiscuit rise to fame, through thick and thin.
This is a story of a broken down horse fixing the lives of three broken down men. It is one of the best movies of 2003, that will inspire you to achieve more in life. I highly recommend this movie. I rate it 5 out of 5.

VIDEO REVIEW: Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, the colers and details are perfect. The way DVD's are meant to look(note I took off a 1/2 point because their were 2 sparts where th backround blurred, these scenes were quick and harly noticable). I Rate it 4 1/2 out of 5.

SOUND/AUDIO: The dvd only features Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. It sound great but the omit of the DTS track drags the points down. I rate this 4 out of 5.

Extras: First off, I think, the packaging is one of the best in dvd history. You get a 35 pg booklet, with a nice 2 disk set holder, with 4 cards inside it. The case is real hard cardboard feeling(wont bend easily, thats real good). As for the extras their are alot, but only two must haves. The commentary is excellent, and the true story of seabiscuit is fantastic. All the others kinda seem all similar. All in all its a good mix off extras. I Rate this 4 our of 5.

OVERALL: Since Amazon can not show halfs, I will rate this 4 out of 5, However I rate this 4 1/2 out of 5. You should definitly watch it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Equine Rocky. What a great 'tail', I LOVED IT!!!
Sensitive, heartfelt and heartwarming yet not maudling or corny. This is one great Hollywood epic for everyone who roots for the underdog, er. . .horse. Seabiscuit is an Equine "Rocky" for sure. It may have you tearing up at times, but that's not bad in this case. It's a great story and there's a happy ending too. What more could anyone want? Wish that horse were still around.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BOTHER WITH 2 DISC SET!!!
Seabiscuit is a good addition to your DVD library, but save the extra money and buy the single disc. I feel taken by the 2 disc set. The only real addition is the Match Race footage which is only a few minutes. The Winner's Circle, HBO First Look and True Story are all re-edits of the interviews and commentaries on the first disc. It's too bad that the studio did this because I will never pay for extra features again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Film!
This movie is proof that Hollywood IS capable of putting out a quality product. All the elements come together on this one-rare indeed. Gets my vote for Picture Of The Year.

4-0 out of 5 stars seabiscuit
One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.. I think people fail to see what this movie is realy about..If you don't have a tear in your eye when George wolf and the biscuit break away from the admiral in the final stretch of the match race, than I think your realy missing the moment.. And you should be in full cry mode when Red Pollard breaks through the pack to win the Santa Anita Handicap.. Sure they could have talked more about events in the book, like Charles Howards other son, he's not mentioned once, or his friendship whith Bing Crosby, and how the biscuit had a rival with his horse. And lets not forget the Awsome performance by the Great Jockey Gary Stevens as the Ice Man himself George Wolf.. I think Gary was the perfect part for George and would have liked to see more of him.. His riding for the finish line in the match race was poetry in motion.. But all in all this movie is summed up in the end when they say this is about a horse that changed the lives of three men when in actuality it changed a country. It gave people light at the end of a dark tunnel, and showed with the right love and the Heart to do your best you can overcome anything. At least thats what I got out of it... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Movie Does Justice to Women
I disagree on many points with the 1 star reviewer of this noble film about women and their valiant contributions as war nurses during WWII.

I believe this movie had strong performances and that it is a significant one in how few movies portray a women's experience and view of war. For this reason, trashing this movie isn't fair. Sure, it isn't a "great" war film and some of the portrayals of Japanese aren't realistic and even laughable. However, I have to say that this movie clearly stated in the beginning it was a fictional account and was created in order to show how valiant many women acted during war. The one star reviewer was unfair in their assessment of this movie as a result. Acting needs to be considered when making such a review and he did not factor that in fairly in their overall rating.

I treasure this movie, especially Kristy McNichol's performance. This movie is between a 3-5 depending on how one chooses to view it. I give it a 5 because of its unique message and content, and because the acting was superb. Anyone who gives it under 3 stars perhaps is more upset at how men are portrayed in this film -- not a typical depiction in a war movie. Men are sometimes humiliated, but really they only humiliate themselves.

1-0 out of 5 stars Heinous garbage
A pretty much unwatchable smorgasbord of prison camp cliches.

It's clear that someone watched Bridge Over the River Kwai a few dozen times, but managed to do so without learning anything from it. It wouldn't be quite so bad if the abuse of the women POW's by their Japanese captors (while undoubtedly reflecting reality, and probably underplaying it) hadn't been staged in such an exploitative way. Someone has shrewdly cloaked the film in lofty bookends (Susan Sarandon doing dramatized "congressional testimony") and given it an honorable-sounding title, but there's no denying that not far underneath the veneer of disingenuous respectfulness lies a "women-in-prison" movie.

The development of the cardboard characters (Sarandon is the "loyal earth mother" to daughter-figure Kristy McNichol's "sullen rebellious one with a heart of gold") intrudes only as frequently as absolutely necessary to get us as quickly as possible from one rape, beating, or humiliation to the next. (The highlight(?), I guess, being when McNichol and Sarandon are forced by the "evil guard" to repeatedly slap one another across the face -- I'm sure that happened all the time in WWII prison camps.)

Since it was made for TV, we have to get by without the nudity, shower scenes, and lesbian love scene normally found in this sort of adventure; I guess we'll have to wait for the director's cut.

The Japanese are played to caricature as either socially inept, ridiculously "honorable," or insanely and stupidly mean; it's an amalgam of stereotypes.

Both McNichol and Sarandon do the best they can with what they've been given and McNichol, particularly, triumphs repeatedly over the bad dialogue and murky photography; she's worth ten times whatever they paid her.

An awful movie, of interest only to fans of McNichol or Sarandon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Girlfriend made me watch it.....
I am am glad she did. Not only should "women everywhere" be inspired by the valor the women potray in this movie, but men should be inspired as well. Based on a true story, this movie will truely entertain, and make you realize that not only men fight wars. (Plus it should get a few "good guy" points from your girlfriend!!)

5-0 out of 5 stars A powerful story of WWII, as seen through the nurses' eyes.
I saw this movie on television years ago, and was so impressed I have been looking for it ever since. Thank goodness for Amazon.com!! :) ... Read more
