You're better off having been born after, say, 1965, if you really want to enjoy this corny romantic comedy and its abundant references to the MTV culture of the mid-1980s--and even then the odds are only 50-50 that you'll have a shamelessly good time. But a lot of people beat those odds, because The Wedding Singer was a surprise box-office hit when released in early 1998, and it resulted in Saturday Night Live graduate Adam Sandler's salary going ridiculously sky-high. It's a schizophrenic film about a seemingly schizophrenic wedding singer (Sandler) who's charmingly sweet to some people but a tongue-lashing maniac to others, probably out of frustration over his fading ambition as a wannabe rock star (not to mention Sandler's penchant for loud-mouthed lunacy). When he meets an admiring young waitress (delightfully played by Drew Barrymore), it's love at first sight, complicated by their pending marriages to much less appealing fiancés. The plot then contorts itself to accommodate this contrived will-they-or-won't-they? scenario, so you're better off ignoring the love story and focusing on the comedy, which is sporadic but occasionally hilarious. This is also a lighter, friendlier Sandler than moviegoers had seen before, which probably accounts for the movie's success. Adam's Best

Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) is a talented singer, who is the Ulimate Master at Ceremonies but When he`s about to get married, his girlfriend (Angela Featherstone) left him at the altar at his wedding. Directed by Frank Coraci (The Waterboy) made a wonderful memorable romantic comedy that is absolutely satisfying. Sandler brings One of his Best Roles as a Struggling Song Writer & Barrymore is adorable as the Woman of his Dreams. This was a Surprise Box Office Hit, when it was release in the Winter of 1998. Carrie Fisher did some re-writes for this film, which she`s uncredited. Allen Covert is also fun as Robbie`s best friend and Christine Taylor is also attractively sexy as Julia`s Cousin. DVD has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer (also in Pan & Scan) with an fine Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD Extras are a Theatrical Trailer, Cast & Information & Three Karoke Songs. Billy Idol appears in a amusing cameo and also Jon Lovitz as a ridiculous Party Singer. One of the all-time romantic greats
This is one of the best all-time romantic comedies. You should be well-versed in 1980s pop culture to get the true humor, but a good time by all is basically guaranteed. One of my all-time favs!

The film was ace, i thought by watching it that drew and adam would be brill together for real life. They are great friends and they both act together soooooooo cool! Drew is funny in a couple of parts of the film i certainly think she should be a comedian, she is sooooooooooo funny. I really enjoyed one of there other films they made together 50 first dates, that was soooooooooo romantic. I think this musical film defently deserves a 5 star and not less because the acting is cool, and they are both made to act together. And she's my favorite actress anyway. It got me so tempting in buying this video because i like to see films with them both in together, it is certainly a good film for you if you like drew or adam. Good premise, poor execution
Though with the talents of Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler, Anger Management is a bad movie. It's plot is pretty straight-foreward, with Sandler as a business man who's rage keeps building up, and he gets mad at a flight attendant on a airplane, and a court forces him to undergo anger management therapy for thirty days. Nicholson, his therapist, decides he needs more, and ends up moving in with him. Sure, these two men are very funny, and this film could be something, but after a while, we get tired of seeing close-ups of Nicholson's scary face for laughs. Although an occasional laugh here and there, this is an un-funny film. After the commercial successes of such films as Big Daddy and The Waterboy, Adam has made Mr. Deeds (did so-so), 8 crazy nights (bad), and this. I expected there to be a lot more people at the theater than there actually were. This film had some cameos, such as Derek Jeter, Rudy Giuliani, John Macenroe, and Bobby Knight. Obviously a film by the producers of "The Animal," and "The Master of Disguise" isn't in great taste. Galaxia (Woody Harrelso) is just gross. It seems that Adam Sandler's career started off slow, got huge, and now is slowly dying. Although different, "Punch-Drunk Love" understood Sandler's strength's and weaknesses. When you have him as an executive producer, then it's just a free for all. Very close to one star. This is the worst film so far this year, and I've seen Bringing Down the House..... God Bless America!

.......That's the mantra Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson) teaches the patients in his anger management class to recite to calm themselves down. The joke is that Rydell himself is a seemingly disturbed semi-psychotic. After meeting on an ill-fated flight, helpless schlub Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler) is arrested and sentenced to attend Rydell's sessions, despite the fact that Rydell was the cause of the incident in the first place. After another "Violent outburst", Buznik is given an ultimatum: 24-Hour supervision by Rydell for one Month, or one Year in jail. After a few days, that Year in jail might just start to look good....

Sandler delivers a relatively restrained performance, and Nicholson is more crazy than he's been since The Shining or Batman. He gets most of the laughs, while Sandler plays straight man. As usual, Sandler surrounds himself with some great talent, including Luis Guzman, Harry Dean Stanton, John Turturro, Marisa Tomei, John C. Reilly, and lots of others, including some truly inspired cameos that generate big laughs.

While not gut-bustingly funny, Anger Management was a pretty good film, and the chemistry between Sandler and Nicholson is great; Nicholson can get a big laugh just by arching one of his trademark brows. I could have lived without the sappy finale, and Marisa Tomei's revalation at the end also dampened my enthusiasm a little; I know it's just a movie, but it defied all credibility. Otherwise, Anger Management is a fun way to spend a few hours.

Another standard Sandler comedy
This Adam Sandler flick is actually one of his most accessible. Jack Nicholson and a supporting cast that includes Marisa Tomei, Heather Graham, John Turturro, & Woody Harrelson drive Sandler's character to become so frustrated that he lets out his repressed anger and opens up to his true feelings. The movie follows the Sandler formula of a likable underdog who redeems himself and "gets the girl" in the end. Nicholson is in fine form as the "Anger Management" shrink and NY Yankee fans will enjoy the film's climax at Yankee Stadium. Some parts of the story are pretty silly and pointless, but overall this movie delivers lots of laughs. There is a bit of a dark side to this story, as if this scenario were applied to real life instead of "reel" life people could really get hurt. A person subjected to such an invasive intrusion into their life would presumably become assertive or aggressive much quicker than the character in this film. I consider this one of Sandler's most enjoyable movies, as he is not too over the top or juvenile, and the story and cast work well.

Tension Reliever
I just love this movie. The premise and format is interesting and funny, even after watching it at least 10 times. Jack Nicholson was a perfect fit for the off-the-wall character, Dr. Buddy Rydell, even if Mr. Nicholson felt it a bit of a stretch himself.

I like Adam Sandler's movies anyway, and this one was no different.

Possible Spoilers Ahead:

I have to admit that I am not a big Adam Sandler fan. However, I saw the trailers and I was intrigued by the thought of Sandler playing a regular guy to an over-the-top Jack Nicholson. About halfway through the movie, I had trouble following the storyline. I think this was due to Sandler playing his mild mannered Dave Buznik character too calm in the beginning. While I understand the concept of a guy who internalizes his anger (which is why he was a candidate for Anger Management classes), even guys who internalize their anger show some frustration when there are problems. I thought Buznik's overly calm reactions seemed unrealistic during the entire flight attendant hostility 'over the headset' episode. I suppose Sandler was trying to go for no reactions at first and building up, over the course of the movie, to more obvious displays of anger (like the fight with his grade school nemesis turned Buddhist monk), but he started out so overly calm at the beginning, it was hard for me to understand whether he was acting or not. While the West Side Story 'I Feel Pretty' bit had some amusing possibilities, the Buznik character started well (frazzled at being forced to stop on the bridge and sing for his bizarre therapist), but the singing soon became too much like Sandler doing his singing bits for SNL, and not Buznik trying to placate his therapist so he could get to work. This may explain why some of the other reviewers gave this movie a thumbs down. I did find the second half more entertaining, mainly because I thought the Buznik character seemed to be reacting in a more realistic fashion to hostility directed at him. I didn't mind the final scene at Yankee Stadium, but I didn't think the cameos from the baseball players were required. While it was nice to see Rudy Giullani, that part could have also gone to someone playing just a regular guy in the stands rooting for the guy to propose to the girl at these sporting events (I didn't think all of the cameos were required - or added anymore laughs to the film).
Overall, this movie has some entertainment value (good as a rental), better for the die-hard Adam Sandler fans. ... Read more

An entertaining comedy fantasy.

Coneheads is one of the best comedies I've ever seen. Buy this movie if you like hilarious entertainment...

Don't bother!
When I was lil I really loved it but now that I'm a bit older I think it's stupid. I only like Coneheads on SNL but the movie itself is really dumb. The storyline just blows it. It does have a huge SNL cast but I just thought it was horrible. Everytime when I see this on TV I want to just switch a channel to a better flick then watching this crap! Only good parts in the movie is watching Chris Farley he's the only one that makes the movie funny the rest of the cast is not funny. If you want to see a better SNL movie stick with the Wayne's World movies there hilarious this movie is just not worth it.

Cute Movie!
After I read negative reviews about this movie and heard people putting it down I was surprised when I watched it that I actually liked it and didn't think it was as bad as they said, sure it's not as funny as the original SNL skits with Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman but it was good on its' ownright and Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin were very good. Though I preferred Laraine Newman as Connie I thought Michelle Burke was pretty good. I taped this movie when it was on a cable and I plan on buying this movie on DVD for my comedy collection. Daddy Day Care: Daddy'll Fall Asleep
Daddy Day Care seems like the perfect kids comedy. Don't get me worng, it is. But the daddies might snooze off during it. When a father gets fired from his job, he starts a day care center for kids. Eddie Murphy doesn't look happy doing this little kiddy-joke comedy, but his acting is still grade-A. All the good jokes are given away on the commercial. The movie still ain't bad, for a kid flick. Each child in the movie you get to know better and better and every character as his/her own funny joke. The movie keeps kids awake, but age 20 and up might find it boring. Daddy Day Care is 90 minutes, just enough to cram all the jokes and punchlines into. The ending is happy, the characters are happy and the movie itself seems happy. Bottom Line: There's better movies out there, but if the latest box-office hit is sold out, Daddy Day Care is the way to go.

Fun for the whole family
We first went and saw Daddy Day Care at the theater and really enjoyed it. My mother in law bought it for our family for Christmas and we have watched it 3 times since, and I laugh more and more each time. Eddie Murphy is truly a genius. I enjoyed his hard core stand up comedy, his Beverly Hills Cop movies, Coming to America, etc. and now am enjoying watching him in family movies like the Dr. Dolittles and Daddy Day Care. It is good clean fun our family can enjoy together, and that is rare nowadays. The little boy who plays Murphy's son is absolutely precious, and the casting for everyone was perfect, from Murphy's wife to his day care business partners.

I have read reviews where people thought the movie was juvenile. Well, it is about children, so I don't know what the expectation was. Anyone who has spent time with little kids, or has kids of their own will definitely appreciate this hysterically funny film.

The special features are fun too. There are interviews with the kids, and the kids do some interviewing too. Great music also!

Great flick
What do you have when two cereal promotional guys are fired off from the only thing they know how to do and they bills are piling up, and they need a job badly? In the same time, you need to find a good day care center for the kids when both parental units are off to work and find work. The main problem is, it is hard to find any at least a daycare that is trustworthy to even leave your kids and not to worry at all if it is safe enough and cheap!

So back to question to unemployment. What do you do? Open an excellent daycare yourself! Open a business up! The only problem is you have a very strong and able competition, from an established day care which act like preschool. And the owner is very keen to keep every kid in her daycare not anybody else's.

Much to add, there is a short animated movie in this dvd set and you gotta watch it *grins* Early Bloomer is the cutest animation I have ever seen and I must admit of watching it repeatitively way too many times hehehe

Good for a Laugh
The movie isn't dealing with profound concepts and ideas, but it is a light hearted movie that provides many laughs. Very enjoyable.

Happy Gilmore
Adam Sandler fans are sure to enjoy this no-brainer comedy, but everyone else is strongly advised to proceed with caution. For Adam Sandler fans only, this dopey comedy features the former Saturday Night Live star as an overindulged rich guy whose father insists he repeat grades 1 through 12 before taking over the family business. The scenario is perfect for Sandler's infantile leanings (which he has fortunately outgrown in more recent movies), and for the most part the jokes about being too old and too big for the experiment are obvious. Awesome Flicks! Buy Them!
These are quite possibly the two greatest Adam Sandler movies ever released. His new movies of of no comparison to the great comical humor of both Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. Now, I haven't seen the deleted scenes supposed to be placed only in this set for these two movies, but they should be great. Martin shines as modern-day "Cyrano de Bergerac"
Steve Martin's best comedy role yet. This breezy, updated version of Edmond Rostand's "Cyrano de Bergerac" shows Martin as a small-town fire chief endowed with an unusually large nose. Gifted with the ability to write beautiful love letters, Martin lends his talent to the shy and awkward Rick Rossovich, who is in love with the Daryl Hannah character (Roxanne). While helping out his buddy, Martin also falls in love with Roxanne, setting off the famous love triangle.

The low key antics and the emphasis on clever dialogue give the film an endearing quality that is difficult to resist. The supporting cast adds some slap stick humor to the plot line. Look for Shelley Duval and Fred Willard in small, but essential roles.

Beautiful locale, beautiful love story, lovely Daryl
Of recent updatings of CYRANO DE BERGERAC, this one is one of the best, and is certainly the funniest. Although THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS has a soft spot in my heart, this version is by far funnier and more romantic. The other film focuses more on Janeane Garofalo's feelings of inferiority compared to Uma Thurman, and although funny, doesn't strive for the laughs like Roxanne does. Also, with apologies to Ben Chaplin, he is hardly as adorable as Daryl Hannah. She has never been lovelier than in this film.

This is also probably my favorite Steve Martin film. Despite his surreal schnoggin, he manages to inject his character with warmth, character, and lovability. You like him so much that you find it believable when he and Roxanne end up together at the end. (Interestingly, both this and the Janeane Garofalo film end happily, unlike the Rostand play.) The long scene in which a bar patron insults his nose, and he humiliates the man by coming up with 20 better and vastly funnier insults (this "Cyrano" is not merely a highly capable street fighter, but equally adept at verbal sparring) is easily the highpoint of the film. Even if I have seen the film recently, if in channel flipping I see the movie playing and that it hasn't reached this part of the film, I will wait and watch it.

One reviewer below mentioned the town being dull. I cannot agree. I think the physical beauty of the place stuns most viewers. If I knew I could find a job there, I'd move there tomorrow. The locale definitely adds measurably to the enjoyment of the film.

I have only two negative comments to make on the movie. First, I think they overdid it on Steve Martin's nose. It is impossible to imagine that anyone with a nose that long would not have had surgery on it, and there isn't any believable medical reason to believe the surgery couldn't be performed. Second, the musical soundtrack really sounds dated. The Kenny G. sound today just hasn't stood the test of time, so that the soundtrack reminds one more of elevator music or at best "Lite FM" than anything.

Still, if one can get past the music, this remains one of the most enjoyable romantic comedies of recent years.

I want the three dollars I used to rent this back
I really don't care what anyone says. I could not finish this movie. It was horrible. I was forced into renting it because we had to do this Cyrano de Bergerac/Roxanne compare/contrast sheet for French. I am unhappy that I had to shell out three bucks to rent a movie I never even really wanted to see. The fact that it was a bad movie didn't help the situation.
Steve Martin may think he's being clever, but really he isn't. I absolutely hated his charcter, who, despite his big nose, was awfully cocky. Now, I don't mind the REAL Cyrano de Bergerac. I find it to be a pretty good story. But this was poorly written. Cyrano was supposed to be cocky and witty. Steve Martin, and just about everyone else in this movie, is not cocky nor witty. They're just stupid. The first hour and forty minutes was an excruciating ride, and I decided against sitting through the last bit, mainly because I just couldn't and my friends were complaining. Save your time, not to mention your money, and pick up something that is actually funny, like Clerks or South Park.

Simply Romantic...simply funny.
Ill write a longer review later but i defy anyone not to get past the first 5minutes of this brilliant film, without hurting their sides from laughing. Steve Martin (at his best) putting the world to rights with the aid of a tennis racket, is a joy to behold.

My favorite movie of all time
Roxanne is so captivating that I have watched it dozens of times and if I could take one movie to a desert island, it would be this one. Steve Martin's deliciously romantic screenplay and his masterful portrayal of Fire Chief C.D. Bales, combined with breathtaking British Columbian scenery and perfect casting make this movie an experience everyone should have. C.D.'s soliloquoy under Rozanne's window is easily the sexiest, most romantic scene I've ever seen in a movie, and he set the standard for my own definition of the perfect lover. There are many "morals" about love and friendship that inform this story, but the "medicine" goes down with sparkling class and flawless humor. I fell head over heels in love with C.D. 3 1/2 Stars; Could've Been Better
When Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife, he left behind something that nobody could take from him - his legacy. As possibly "Saturday Night Live's" most versatile star, he was a major influence on later, equally great castmembers Will Ferrell and Darrell Hammond (who is the only castmmebrs whose Bill Clinton impersonation matched up to Hartman). As always, when he died, Lorne and company decided it was time to put together a tribute show as they did for Chris Farley. The resulting "The Best Of Phil Hartman" was mixed at best.

The first half is hilarious. Here, he gest to show up his versatillity in such roles as Frank Sinatra ("The Sinatra Group"), Bill Clinton ("Clinton At McDonald's"), Peter Graves ("Discover The World Of Science"), Phil Donahue ("Donahue"), and "Barbara Bush (don't know name of sketch, but features Nancy Reagan (Jan Hooks) trying to take back the White House). Also, there's a great montage of his impressions. He became so well known for playing Bill Clinton, people forget that his repetoire included Ted Kennedy, Andy Griffith, Telly Savalas, Michael Caine and even Jesus. Also, there's his infamous "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" and one, the "Weekend Update' "All Drug Olympics".

But after this, the dvd falters. While "Cooking With The Anal Retentive Chef" "Succinctly Speaking", and the touching closer "Love Is A Dream" are worth viewing, the second montage (don't know what it's about), "On Broadway", "Ann Boleyn" and "Robot Repair" rank among the worst "SNL" skecthes ever.

Is this dvd worth viewing? Yes. But is it perfect? By all means, no. How could it have been better? First, they could've taken out the entire second half (with the eexception of "Anal Retentive Chef", "Succinctly Speaking", and "Love Is A Dream") and replaced it with the "Sinatra Duets" sketch, another Clinton one, and a montage of his voiceovers. I think Phil Hartman deserves a best - of, volume 2.

One of the best of "The Best of" videos so far!
The opening credits for this video say "Saturday Night Live Remembers Phil Hartman." How could anybody NOT remember Phil Hartman? With so many impersonations and characters, I'm sure it was very difficult for the creators of this video to pick out "The Best of Phil Hartman." I would say 30 out of the 36 sketches on this tape are very funny. It's incredibly saddening that Hartman is no longer alive to share more laughs with us. This tape is a great tribute to the times that he was. I dare you fans and new viewers to try not to laugh as you view this truly great tribute to a truly comedic genius.

Should have been better...
I read all the reviews of this, and i found the one extremely negative one and figured it was just some moron that didn't know what he was talking about. After buying this and watching it, i realized that he was way closer to the truth than any of the other reviewers. This dvd contains about 4 funny sketches, tops. I remember phil hartman being way funnier than he is portrayed on this dvd, and i have a theory as to why this one stinks as bad as it does.
-Phil Hartman is an extremely funny and talented actor, but for some reason he was written in as a funny "side guy" in a lot of sketches, and the ones where he is the main character, he is usually doing an impression of someone or it is just plain boring, for whatever reason. Therefore, to see Phil Hartman in his top form, you would be better off buying Adam Sandler's, Mike Myers', or Chris Farley's dvds, because theirs probably have all the sketches in which we remember Phil Hartman being so funny. The only sketches left by the time they got around to making Hartman's dvd were the ones we would have been better off forgetting. The only things worth watching on this dvd are "cooking with the anal retentive chef" and "the all drug olympics," which is about 10 seconds long. I hate to write a review like this because i really loved phil hartman, but it is a shame that i would rather watch the "bad" ones on the will ferrell dvd than the "good" ones on this dvd. Sorry.

Starts Out Good But Falters At The End
For 8 years, Pil Hartman kept America laughing as one of (if not the ) most versatile castmembers on "Saturday Night Live". Judging by his long line of work, it would be hard to find just 20 sketches that would qualify as his best. In 1998, shortly after he was murdered by his wife Brynne, Lorne Michaels and Company came up with "Saturday Night Live: The Best Of Phil Hartman", which was soon released on dvd. The results were okay at best.

The first half is hilarious. "The Sinatra Group" is my favorite, especiially the Sinead O'Connor (Jan Hooks) jokes. Also worth a view are "Clinton At McDonald's" and "Discover The World Of Science With Peter Graves", in which Hartman plays the screen veteran as a bumbling idiot (so gold is long and thin like, say, Kareem Abdul Jabaar?). Best of all, there's a montage of his impressions. So many people watch him for his Bill Clinton that they forget his repitoire ranged from Ted Kennedy to Burt Reynolds to Jesus. After the "All Drug Olympics" sketch, the dvd falters a bit, but enjoys a resurgance of hilarity with "Cooking With The Anal Retentive Chef". But skecthes like "Robot Repair" and "On Broadway With Brenda Krouse" just weren't as good as I expected. The final sketch is "Love Is A Dream", a short film with an ending that will leave you misty - eyed.

Overall, not a bad set, but it could have been a better sketch. For instance, where was the sketch where he's Frank Sinatra and he's recording his "Duets" album and he doesn't like his partners?

Have you clowns even watched this yet??
First off, the 1 star is for the 10 minutes of extras. They are the only material half funny on this entire DVD. I sat in total shock as I watched the first chapter, then the next, and the next. I kept saying, this is going to be halarious, you just wait. It was very painful to watch. For one of the most talented actors to come out of SNL, they picked the absolutely worst episodes to show. The opening segment was the most boring, unfunny scene he's ever done. What were they thinking??I know there are many of you out there right now saying, "hey, he's absolutely right, it sucked!". Maybe that's why it took so long to release his compilation; Maybe all the good episodes are still tied up in his estate litigation, or.. someone maybe couldn't make up their mind on what was funny and what wasn't. The people that put this DVD together should be taken out back and stoned by Phil's true fans. If you want a great example of showcasing a talent, watch Chris Farley's SNL DVD......You'll laugh yer ass off start to finish. All I can say is I wish I could get my money back because this was absolutely terrible!!! I hope I can get $5 for it at my spring garage sale, but I seriously doubt it! Shame on SNL for releasing this goop. Even Will Ferrel's wasn't as polished as Farleys or Meyer's or even Sandlers DVD!! No wonder SNL sucks now, it has run it's course and their compilations get worse and worse. You'll agree, the best ones were the first ones....right?

Well, Isn't This Special
Dana Carvey may have left "Saturday Night live" in 1993, but his legacy still lives on. Along with Phil Hartman, he was the most versatile actor of the show's 1986 - 94 seasons, creating a variety of classic impressions and zany characters. This dvd shows just how amazing he was in those seven years (plus the years he came back to host).

Unlike Phil Hartman's dvd, this disc I have no complaints about. If you like good, old - fashioned American comedy, then look no further here. On this dvd, Carvey's most popular comic creatiosn are here. Whether you enjoy the sarcastic Church Lady, the conceded bodybuilder Hanz or the lovable Garth from "Wayne's World", it's hard not to enjoy what's here. Also, there's a series of his amazing impressiosn. In additon to two hilarious George Bush sequences, most of Carvey's repetoire is hre: Ross Perot, Tom Brokaw (the funniest sketch on the whole dvd), Paul McCartney, Johnny Carson (in the infamous "Carsenio"), John McLaughin, George "Look At My Butt, Dennis" Michael, Robin Leach, Prince Charles and a host of others. Even "Massive Hoeadwound Harry" is funny once gget past being grossed out at Carvey's bleeding head and the dog chewing on it.

This is a great dvd honoring one of the greaetst contemporary American geniuses. Highly recommended for "SNL" fans and anybody who enjoys laughing.

An excellent sampling of one of the best SNL personalities
Dana Carvey stopped appearing as a member of the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1992, but he left behind an amazing legacy of hilarious fictional characters, while also showing himself to be one of the leading impressionists in contemporary American comedy. During a period when SNL was largely a hit-or-miss affair (as compared with its classic first five years), Carvey could always be counted on to elicit guffaws when he appeared as Garth of "Wayne's World," The Church Lady, The Grumpy Old Man, Hans the bodybuilder, or even the grossout-inducing "Massive Headwound Harry." But it is perhaps as an impressionist of political and show business personalities that Carvey showed his greatest talent. He became nationally famous for his George Bush impersonation, but he repertoire included so many others: Paul McCartney, Ross Perot, Tom Brokaw, George Michael, Keith Richard, Jimmy Stewart, Johnny Carson, Strom Thurmond, Bob Dylan, and on and on--his ability to capture every nuance of a character was nothing short of astounding.

This video presents an excellent cross-section of Carvey's work, including some hilarious Church Lady sequences, a rapid-fire series of impersonations, and a terrific combination impression of Johnny Carson and Arsenio Hall called "Carsenio." Anyone who enjoys laughing will find this video well worth the money.

It's surprising to me that in recent years Dana Carvey has not found a lot of new venues for his great talent. While his onetime partner on "Wayne's World" Mike Myers has achieved superstar status as "Austin Powers," Carvey has more or less receded into the show business background. Here's hoping that Dana finds his winning show, film, or character soon.

Portrait Of A Comedic Genius
When Dana Carvey left "Saturday Night Live" in 1993, he left behind a legacy of zany characters and hilarious (and dead - on)impressions. Since his departure, he has hosted 3 more times (in 1994, 1996 and 2000) and has made numerous guest appearances. This dvd captures the genius that Carvey was (and still is).

The opening sketch is a lively parody of Ross Perot's press conferences. When watching this sketch, it's hard to pinpoint whether you're watching Carvey or Perot of himself since he does him so exact. I loved him in "The McLaughlin Group", in which he portrays tv debate group moderator John McLaughlin as a egotistical maniac, further proof of how good "Saturday Night Live" at political satire. I loved the "Church Chat" montage, thogh I wish they had one complete sketch. The montage of his impressions is hilarious. It's amazing how well he did them, especially Robin Leach, James Stewart, George Michael and Paul McCartney, to name just a few. The Tom Brokaw sketch is better (I'm sure Crvey does him better than Chris Parnell). The Bush stuff is funny, but I wish they would ahve included the 1988 debate with the puRepublican nomiees for President, featuring one of Carvye's earliest Bush impressions.

There are many other great sketches, too many to name. I think this is a highly hilarious romp through over 10 years of classic humor.

Dana Carvey was one of the most versatile cast members in the long history of "Saturday Night Live". He stayed on for 6 years (1986 - 1992) and has wound up hosting several more times over the years.

The opening sequence features Carvey as a dead - on Ross Perot, fielding questions asked by Sandler and Schneider. The dvd mainly focuses on his unique impersonations of many famous people, including Robin Leach, Tom Brokaw (the one when he's Brokaw going over ways to announce that Gerald Ford is dead is hilarious), Jimmy Stewart, Keith Richards and, of course, George Bush. Also included are some of Carvey's quirkiest characters, including Garth from "Wayne's World", "Carsenio" (a spoof of "The Tonight Show" featuring Carvey as Johnny Carson trying to recapture his place with the public by copying Arsenio Hall), and "The Church Lady", which always has me laughing.

This one of the best discs that Broadway Video has released in their long line of "best - of" collection. "The Best Of Dana Carvey" will keep you laughing no matter how many times you watch it. ... Read more

Excellent
For 6 years, Mike Myers remained one of "Satturday Night Live's" most versatile cast members, with his assortment of quirky characters and a few memorable impressions of British celebrites. So anyone would be hardpressed to choose 16 of Mike's best sketches to fit one dvd. Fotunatel, it was an easy task for the people at Broadwat Video, who have put together just about every "SNL" anthology. They sketches span from his first season in 1989 to the 1994 - 95 season, the season in which Myers left during the second half.

All of Mike's classic characters are here. Wayne of "Wayne's World" is represented in 2 hilarius sketches, one in which he and Garth (Dana Carvey) are jamming with Aerosmith and another, more popular one in which they enjoy a "wet dream involving Madonna. I also enjoyed some characters who only appeared once or twice or the ones who appeared many times but never became as popular, like Lothar, Simon, Philip and Middle - Aged Man. His passion for Britian pops more than one in the "Hedley And Wyche" toothpaste commercial, "RAF Hospital", "Simon", "Theatre Stories" and his hilarious impressions of Mick Jagger and Ron Wood. Linda Richman and Dieter are also here. I'm glad that his most popular characters are presented in complete sketches. Carvey and Sandler had to have their most memorable characters (Operaman and The Church Lady) butchered to mere montages on their dvds.

The bonus sketches are okay. I especially enjoyed "Wayen's World" and "Update Ito", bu the others weren't as good. Still, this is an excellent compilation of one of the greatest comedians of our time. Since leaving "SNL", he hit it big as a movie star with "Austin Powers" and "Shrek", but he hasn't forotten the show that made him famous. He hosted in 1997, appeared at the 25th anniversary special and made a cameo in last season's Alec Baldwin episode.

Very funny, but are these really the "best" sketches?
One of the difficulties of the "Best of" series is that someone else is deciding what's best. This is no easy task with a performer who was on SNL as long as Mike Myers. Distilling six years of performance to a mere 16 sketches (20 if you get the DVD version) inevitably leaves the serious fan unsatisfied. To be sure, this effort gives us Myers' principle characters, but they're not necessarily in their funniest sketches. The "Coffee Talk" on the tape is definitely not the funniest one he ever did, though it is the one with the biggest stars in guest roles. Likewise, there are funnier "Sprockets" and "Simon" sketches-but the ones included have serious star power. "Best" in this case seems more often than not to mean "the one where (insert famous person's name here) was on the show".

None of this to say that this isn't a funny compilation. It is. The Wayne's World sketches *are* probably the best efforts, and the others aren't dull by any means.

It just would be nice if Broadway Video did serious fans a favor and used the storage capacity of the DVD format to create performer anthologies. I would rather have *all* the sketches of a particular performer and be able to decide for myself which were the funniest. At the very least it would be nice to have the first of each major character's appearances. It would been even better to have some commentary by Mike Myers and maybe the writing staff on how the characters came into being. Now that the show has reached the mature age of 25, maybe Lorne Michaels will produce a more behind-the-scenes, documentarized compilation series in the future.

Until then, the "Best of" series is a good enough substitute. On balance, however, this may be one of the few video products that might be best bought on VHS instead of DVD. Other than the few additional sketches, many of which are drawn from Myers' return hosting of the show and not his stint as featured player, there are no special features on the DVD. The extra sketches ARE funny, and the Judge Ito Apology sketch marks the closest thing to an appearance of Austin Powers SNL has witnessed. But the question is whether these sketches alone warrant the extra price, or whether you can own the VHS but rent the DVD for one-time viewing.

As Wayne Campbell Would Say, "Excellent"
While not as versatile as Dana Carvey or Phil Hartman, Mike Myers had his own comedic charm that made him one of "Saturday Night Live's" most popular castmembers in the early 1990s'. Unlike Carvey and Hartman, Myers was a sort of character actor, relying on his own comic creations rather than impressions. Many of those characters have gone to become some of the best - known in "SNL" history and revived it as a sketch - comedy show.

Even if you don't consider this his absolute best, I find it pretty hard for anyone not to enjoy what's on here. Whether you like Wayne from "Wayne's World" or Dieter, host of the German television show "Sprockets", eveything here will make you laugh. Also, a wealth of unknown sketches are here. The "RAF" sketch with Rob Scneider as Adolf Hitler is funny if a little dated (literally dated - it takes place in 1943). "Philip" and "Lothar Of The Hill People" were two of the most controversial sketchs in the show's history. I didn't enjoy the latter sketch but the former is hysterical. The "Simon" sketch is also very funny. "Dieter's Dream" is an eerie sketch. It's easy to laugh at it (especially Phil Hartman's cameo and the "Electric Company" parody with the German nun), but you can't help but be a little freaked out by it. The "Coffee Talk" sketch features hilarous cameos by Madonna (who delightfully disses herself), RoseannEe Barr and Barbara Streisand. The Material Girl also pops up in "Wayne's Wolrd" in the infamous fanatsy sequence. It's quite gross but very funny to watch Wayne and Madonna tongue - kiss each other and to see Dana Carvey dressed in that balck outfit (the sequence is a parody of the controversial "Justify My Love" video). Also included are his hilarious impressions of Ron Wood and Mick Jagger.

This is a very funny dvd. The extras aren't that great. I enjoyed "Wayne's World" immensely and "Judge Ito" was good to, but the rest didn't do much for me. Buy this for the hilarious regular sketches. Also get Dana Carvey and the other "best - off" collections.

EXCELLENT LAUGHS FOR VALUE
Mike Meyers is one of the brightest stars to come from SNL and this brief but nice overview of some of his more famous characters is a delight. From the Japanese gameshow skit with Chris Farley, the bad British teeth faux ad, and many others faetured, this will give you something to laugh at!

Good stuff, but where are the extras?!
The sketches on this disc are great, and anyone who is a Mike Myers fan knows there are far more where these came from. But like Amazon reviewer Benjamin LeBaron said, the extras listed on the box are non-existent! I was glad to read that post, because I searched all over the internet to find out if they were hidden features or something. The only extras are some extra sketches, which are good, but the outtakes and dress rehearsals promised on these new SNL discs are NOT included on this Mike Myers one. So if you already have the 1999 release, you might as well keep it because judging by the slow static menu, it's still the same disc.
I stil give it 4 stars based on the Mike Myers sketches. As far as the physicality of the DVD itself, I'd probably give it 1 or 2. ... Read more

THE BEST FAMILY FILM, 2003
Here is a wonderful, beautiful, delightful movie that conjurs images of "E.T" and "Beethoven". It's a wonderful break from flaky action-figure heroes and animated Barbies. Owen adopts a unique terrier who is actually from the dog star Sirius. He tries to make the "Earth Dogs" look like they are in control of humans, since that was their mission, and his owner, "Owen" happily goes along, not wanting all the dogs in the world to be sent back to Sirius for retraining. But when two bullies change that, Owen and "Hubble" must convince the Greater Dane that dogs belong on earth. I laughed and cried during this film, and I came out with a new revelation of how precious dogs are to us.

Woof! Woof! Or, How's it going? What if your dog suddenly started to talk? What would you do?
Owen Baker (Liam Aiken) has been walking dogs to earn one of his own. His dog Hubble (voiced by Mathew Broderick), after a mysterious "dream", begins to talk. Owen learns about Serious (The planet where all dogs came from millions of years ago). Like the fact that dogs came to earth to take it over. If the dogs have not taken over, the Greater Dane (voiced by Vanessa Redgrave) will take all the dogs away.

When Owen is talking to Hubble through the woofer (a radio that Hubble used to communicate with Serious) he really captured the feeling of the movie. Reviewing this hart wrenching moment you understand Owen's love for Hubble. As director John Hoffman said, " it is sadder when you watch some one hold back their tears than when they cry their eyes out."
Dogs are actors, too. It is amazing how the trainers got the dogs to do the things they did, without to much computer imaging. For example when they get 5 dogs to lie on their backs for an entire scene.
Director John Hoffman is also the screenwriter. He said that he had all the breads of the dogs except for Hubble, before he got the dogs. The dog that played Hubble was an accident.
Because of some milled crude hummer the movie was rated PG. The directing was a plus. The scenes were not choppy the costumes made me believe that the characters were real.
Good Boy, the wonderful, heart warming movie, captured my heart!

Half way from good and bad
Now I know that Ebert & Roeper both hated this movie, they set this was a "very bad family film", or at least Ebert. But it seemed to go half way from a bad and good film for me, and I am going to give it 3 stars. Mostly I guess this might be for some young kids, and though it is rated for mild crude humor, though I don't know what really is supposed to be funny about this film. The best idea, is to rent this film once, wach it once, and then return to the video store, even really early, if you hated it that much. But if your kids like this film, buy it. As the movie begins it is exact 3 months to the day, that Owen Baker (Liam Aiken) became a dog walker, and he wants a dog, and his Mom ((Molly Shannon) and his Dad (Kevin Nealon) promsied him, he can half one on that date, and he spents his morning walking his neighbor's dogs, wich on the way, comes across a dog on the loose, that helps the dog catcher, catch. At at the pound, Owen finds the dog again, and adopts the dog. Even though she tries to get Owen to wait until they move into thier new home.

Entertaining
We watched this as a family and were entertained. Do we really need a token gay couple in every movie/TV show? This is a kids movie! Back off the gay agenda.

Really Funny and cute
I would reguralerily give this movie 4 stars, but because of the awesome special features and the cuteness of the film. Once you see it, you learn to find that this movie is irresistable, if you're a dog lover. If you are a dog lover, you want to see this, no matter what. Alot of people that voice the movie and people that do the movie you probably know, like Molly Shannon, Kevin Nealon (Both from SNL), Brittany Murphy and Donald Faison do voices, and what's weird is they both starred in Uptown Girls together, another great movie, but the weird thing is that both movies have been distributed by MGM, both are released in August-October. I love crank yankers, especially season two, but two or more volumes for one season is absolutely ridiculous. I refuse to buy into this type of greedy marketing. I hope that others will as well. this completely defeats the purpose of buying seasons on dvd. Lame! I was really looking forward to buying this set to.

Comedy Central sucks, but it's still a great season
Yes, Comedy Central sucks eggs for splitting this season into two DVDs.Season Two IS the best season of this show by far, however, so I feel that the show should still be judged on its merits and not on the network's outrageous greed.

Volume One? You must be crankin' me!
I've been a casual fan of Crank Yankers for a while, but why not put the whole season in one box set? Comedy Central has really been trying their hardest to cash in on their top shows at the consumer's expense, and it's apparently not going to stop here. This Yankerville collection is okay, despite that one obvious flaw, in that the second season is when the true wit of the show came into full form. We all know and love good ole Special Ed and love god Niles Standish (Don Knotts, move over), of which the inclusion of these skits are a standout. That, plus we get to see Mitch Hedburg calling shots.

Speaking of, where are the extras at? There is nothing "extra" about the special features on these discs. A couple of "unaired" calls to throw the dog a bone are here and little else, making me feel like I was cheated of the DVD experience. If you're a hardcore fan, then you might want to buy this, but for folks like me who simply get a kick out of the show while it's on, we might as well stick to cable. I will not be purchasing any future releases of Crank Yankers, not even volume two (which should be the best of the season, if memory serves me correctly).

Perhaps the guiltiest of guilty pleasures, Crank Yankers has a way of overcoming one's ethical conflicts about prank phone calls with some very funny examples of the practice. Comic talents Wanda Sykes, Sarah Silverman, Tracy Morgan, Dave Chappelle, and others join the Touchstone Terrorists and musical duo Tenacious D in tormenting innocent people with ridiculous communications. Among the 10 episodes of season 1 is Sykes's outrageous call to an auto mechanic, claiming that someone at the guy's shop defecated in her car. Unlike many of the innocent recipients of Crank Yankers's harassment, the bemused mechanic turns the tables on the crazed woman and goads her into making more ridiculous claims. Elsewhere, a pet shop owner takes a call from an "old woman" (Susie Essman) complaining about her obscene parrot while the bird can be heard calling her "whore" in the background. Other choice moments include an apparently slow-witted comic-book fan (Jordan Rubin) pestering directory assistance for Batman's phone number, a "blind woman" (Lisa Kushell) applying for a job as a stripper (requiring her seeing-eye dog in the act), and a great bit in which a fellow (Denis Leary) convinces a sex-supply store salesman to pretend to be a pizza-delivery man in order to fool Leary's mom. I'm proud to say "Happy Gilmore" will make you scream with laughter, my friend. This is Adam Sandler's platinum hit, the best comedy of his career. It has the coveted Amazon.com five-star customer rating, a rare find indeed for the comedy lover, and reviewers call it "the best golf comedy since 'Caddyshack'". The movie stars Adam Sandler (Bulletproof, The Wedding Singer, Billy Madison) as Happy Gilmore, a short-fused hockey player who just realized he AGAIN didn't make the cut for his hockey team for the 10th time in a row. After taking out his raging anger on the coach, he life begins to spiral downwards when his girlfriend leaves him, and he realizes his grandmother's prized house built by his grandfather's bare hands if about to be seized by the IRS in 90 days due to her failure to pay taxes in over a decade. The movie Happy Gilmore is the funniest laugh-out loud golf comedy since Caddy Shack. From the very first scene to the last, Adam Sandler and his cast will keep you in stiches and gasping for a breath. Unlike other of his comedies, Adama Sandler is not the only one delivering the laughs. A cast, who isn't that famous yet, but hilarious and meant for each role that they play accompany Sandler. The movie follows the entertaining career change of Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) who goes from being a brutal hockey player to a golf sensation. After finding out that his grandma has lost her house as the result of not paying her taxes, Happy vows to get the house back. After being cut from the local hockey team, Happy is discovered by an old golf pro, Chubs Peterson. He tells Happy that he has the potential to make a large sum of money playing golf. A light bulb goes off in Gilmore's head and he decides to put his hockey career on hold for a while to pursue this idea of becoming a golfer and thereby raising the money to get his grandma's house back. After winning a local tournament Gilmore makes the pro tour and is ready to start making money. His journey through the tour takes many comedic ups and downs as he battles with the villian of the movie, Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald). Shooter will do anything to prevent Happy Gilmore from succeeding. This movie is a classic and undoubtedly one of the best comedies of all time. There is not a dull moment in the movie and anybody who dosen't laugh at Gilmore's antics on the course must surely have no sense of humour. There is no stop to the endless number of sidesplitting actors in this movie. Even when Adam Sandler is not in the scene, Christopher McDonald amuses you with his arrogant yet comical style and the cameo by Bob Barker is icing on the cake. I give the movie five out of five stars and recommend it for anyone who likes to laugh.

A modern-day 'Caddyshack'
This movie will have you grabbing your sides and gasping for air. Adam Sandler plays Happy Gilmore, a lowclass guy trying to win money for his grandma through his newly discovered talent of hitting the ball faaaaaaaaaaar in golf. His putting is horrible though. And like any comedy, there must be a rival. A proffesional golfer who feels Happy is an insult to the Golfing industry tries to keep Happy from winning so that he himself can win.

This movie is like a modern version of Caddyshack, and great for the whole family.

This is a good movie
I was totally unfamiliar with Adam Sandlers work prior to buying this movie and The Wedding Singer. I'd just bought my first DVD player and I wanted movies. I liked the two movies. Then I rented Big Daddy. I thought wow, Adam Sandler makes great movies. Then I rented several other Adam Sandler movies. Which I didn't like at all. I think Happy Gilmore probably steals the distinction of the being best Golf movie from Caddy Shack. Maybe not, but Happy Gilmore is a classic and one of those movies I can watch over and over.

Needs to also Have a Widscreen DVD! Not Just Pan and Scan!!!
Happy Gilmore is a very funny movie and one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies!

One question I have is how come you can watch a trailer for Happy Gilmore on the Billy Madison DVD and the trailer is shown in widescreen but they opted to use the cropped pan and scan format for Happy Gilmore on it's own DVD?

That is my only complaint about this DVD and if a widescreen DVD ever becomes available I will buy it and either sell trade or give away or my pan and scan DVD! ... Read more
