5-0 out of 5 stars American Dreams Is Fabulous
I just found out about the new American Dreams Season One DVD that will be released in September. Thank God that my birthday is in August so I can order it! I started watching American Dreams in September of 2003 and fell head over heals in love with it! Even though I did not grow up in that generation, my goodness, I can certainly relate to their family's way! Watching the show is one of the highlights of my week. I already know that this DVD will be awesome, and I haven't even seen it yet. I definately suggest everyone get the DVD. I sure will.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great family show!!
I have watched every minute of American Dreams since it began and LOVE it!! I'm a Baby Boomer who lived through the tumultuous 1960's and this show portrays the unrest very accurately. It's a great family show and I applaud NBC for renewing it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!!!
This is one of the best shows on today. It's great for the whole family. I'd love to know what the extras on this DVD will be and I can't wait for it to come out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Show!
From the first promo I saw for "American Dreams" in the summer of 2002, I knew I would love this show and I was right!

This is such a great show for the entire family. It surprises me that it doesn't do better in the ratings than it does.

I was born in the late 60's, so I can kind of relate to how the Pryor's family life plays out ... having only one television set (and only having 3 channels to choose from), one telephone, buying and listening to 45's (for those younger ones of you out there, these are the single records) on a tabletop record player, penny candy that actually cost a penny, Coca-Cola in glass bottles, getting into movies for 50 cents, having a sit down dinner with your family most every night (exceptions were Friday & Saturday nights) of the week ... especially Sunday and so many other things. I love this show, because it reminds me so much of being a child in the late 60's in early 70's.

If you haven't ever watched "American Dreams", I suggest you buy the DVD for Season 1, catch up on Season 2 by reading episode synopsises at nbc.com and start watching Season 3 at 8 p.m. on Sunday night starting September 26th!

5-0 out of 5 stars American Dreams is awesome
I love this show so much. Even though i wasn't born in this generation, each week, i tune in. The music of American Bandstand is amazing. The special guest stars were awesome. I love how the Pryor family always has something going on. I can't wait to watch the 3rd season. Meg pryor and Roxanne are really funny and cool, while Patti is a brat. Will is adorable, and JJ Pryor has issues with Beth. JJ is also very cute! anyways I would recomend this dvd to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Romantic Movie
I saw this movie on ABC Family for the first time last summer and fell in love with it immediately. Not only are Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Patrick Dempsey wonderful in this (and it doesn't hurt that Patrick Dempsey has really grown into a great looking guy), but the locales and the music in this film are fantastic as well. I was so glad to see that they made it available to purchase, as this is one that I will definitely watch over and over again. It's just a really cute story from beginning to end.

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful and romantic love story
This is an original ABC Family Movie which first aired on network TV in July 2003 and, thanks to an enormous following and fan request, this wonderful movie will soon be available for purchase on DVD. Amy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) was seven years old when her mother died. Before her Mom died, she left Amy a timeline to remember her by and to help her cope with her passing. The timeline included pivotal times of a young girl growing up, college, career, etc., leading up to finding her soulmate. Her Mom told her that lucky number 7 would be her true love. Enter number 6, Daniel, played by Brad Rowe, a meticulous, organized, career oriented handsome young man with whom Amy falls in love. Daniel seems to be the perfect match--Amy is also meticulous, organized, and career oriented and hopes to make partner in her law firm. However, Daniel is number 6. Before Amy gets in too deep, she concocts a plan to make Daniel number 7 by inserting another guy, Peter, played by the luscious Patrick Dempsey, into the number 6 slot. Peter is a sweet, very cute and good natured guy who manages a bagel store (but there is much more to Peter than meets the eye). He asks Amy to go to a friend's wedding for the weekend and she agrees to do so, with the intention of making him number 6, so that when she gets back home, she will pick up with Daniel where they left off. Peter asks her to pretend that she is his girlfriend because his ex-fiancee will be at the wedding and he does not want his friends to think he is still suffering. Neither one of them anticipate the feelings that they will have for each other. The next 45 minutes of the movie are my favorite due to the onscreen chemistry between Kimberly and Patrick. I must say that Patrick Dempsey has grown from a young skinny kid into a most handsome and charismatic man at age 37. I am truly smitten, and would love to see more of him on the big screen. Although the premise of the movie is farfetched, the story works because of the excellent performances of the cast and the chemistry between Kimberly and Patrick. Another plus is an incredible soundtrack. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys romance, great acting and good music. You will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars what a great love story
I saw this movie on TV and had to buy it!!! I love this movie & Patrick Dempsey. The Island is beautiful. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies!
I found this at Hollywood Video last night, and had never heard of it. (I don't have cable). But, I like Dempsy, and knew it had to be good. From start to finish it was a great movie! Dempsy is so dang hot in this movie!!! And the chemistry between him and Kimberly Williams is so strong. I'm watching it again tonight! (Hey, I get it for 5 days!!) I will probably watch it 5 times before dropping it off. ;-) But, you won't go wrong with this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Gem
After seeing this surprising film, it's gone into the same place on shelves as "When Harry Met Sally," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "The Very Thought of You." The storys differ, but they all deliver a blissfull dose of satisfaction and bliss upon viewing. What's amazing is that "Lucky Seven" was made for television and yet still delivered such a great production. Definitely has made it into my all time favorite romantic comedies and I hadn't even heard of it before seeing it for sale on DVD. Took a chance and I'm all the happier for it.

Now... let's see how my wife likes it when she get back into the country. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not an American movie classic, but still hilarious
I am reading the reviews for this movie and there seems to be a lot of the negative type. Why is that? This is a very funny movie and Rob Schneider fits the role perfectly in my opinion. I guess I can see what other reviewers are saying about how this is a dumb movie, but for me it is a guilty pleasure that never fails to crack me up the whole way through, and I have seen it on many occasions. The story begins with Deuce cleaning a public aquarium(naked all the while). He loves what he does but ends up getting fired. He finds work for Antoine(hope I spelled it right) who turns out to be a gigolo. When he travels to Switzerland, Deuce is tabbed with watching his house while he is away. All goes well until Deuce accidentally knocks over a $6000 aquarium, and soon resorts to being a [male prostitute] to make the money to replace the tank before Antoine returns. What results is a hilarious number of "dates" that involve women with abnormalities, until he finally meets one girl he falls in love with. So I wont give away any more plot, but how does it all turn out? Just watch the movie to find out. If you havent seen it yet, just try not to take it too seriously and let yourself be entertained. As far as the dvd goes, there are hardly any extras. Video and sound quality are great though, so I suggest you give it a chance. This is not/will never be a masterpiece of filmmaking, but it is a lot of fun and good for many, many laughs along the way.

1-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't wait for this to be over
I watched this movie based on the good reviews. Stupid and badly put together.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANY MANS FANTASY DONT LIE
DA DEUCE IS ACES WILD AND DIS IS A COOL MOVIE WHO WOULDNT WANT TO BE IN HIS POSTION BUT ITS NOT ALL GOOD THINK ABOUT IT DEUCE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of laughing involved here...
Okay, I'll start off by saying that I am not an "across the board" Rob Schneider/Adam Sandler project fan. I didn't care for The Hot Chick or The Animal and Big Daddy got on my nerves. So, I'm not praising Deuce Bigalow blindly.
The jokes are a bit juvenile through this, sure. That's to be expected with a Rob Schneider flick. If you want a wonderful script and Oscar-winning production, this isn't the movie for you (it cracks me up that people complain about the production and script on a movie like this, which revels in the fact that its sole purpose in life is to snatch as much cheap laughter as possible).
Some jokes are even a bit overused and cliched (see Amy Poehler as Ruth, the girl with Tourette's Syndrome), but they make me laugh. The part when Deuce and Ruth are in the convertible and she starts uncontrollably shouting obscenities at the couple in the car next to them shouldn't be funny at all, but I still laugh.
The scene where he's talking to the valet in the mens' room (who turns out to be his dad) while someone experiences a rather noisy, disgusting poop in the stall behind them shouldn't be funny at all, but I still laugh.
The disturbing incidents in which TJ picks up and eats a tomato and a scoop of ice cream from the water in the hot tub that he and Deuce soaking in shouldn't be funny at all, but I still laugh (although it's laced with a slight cringe in these cases).
And, of course, the ambiguously gay fish tank builder (Neil, I think is his name) makes all sorts of comments that lead to chuckling: "I know, I'm up to my bicep in it!" or "Look, I don't wanna flip you over and do you dry here..."
Not exactly comedic genius displayed in this movie, but clever and plentiful enough to ensure laughter.
A nice addition to a comedy collection.

1-0 out of 5 stars All in all a very poorly crafted film.
A fairly straight-forward premise of a guy turned male gigolo in order to pay off a debt. Unfortunately, this movie is just plain badly put together. The flow and the rhythm from scene to scene is clumsy. The editing is off. The casting is off. The humor is off (some scenes which are meant to be funny are actually quite morbid).
The build up to punchlines are badly timed. The script is poorly written. There are awkward pauses etc. etc. etc. All in all a very poorly crafted film. ... Read more

Description

Crowd-pleasing Hollywood stars score big-time laughs in this outrageous comedy about team spirit gone way out-of-bounds! Lewis Scott (Damon Wayans -- MAJOR PAYNE, TV's MY WIFE AND KIDS) is a stuck-up superstar who's about to lead his team to the NBA Championship. Jimmy (Dan Aykroyd -- EVOLUTION, GROSSE POINTE BLANK) and his buddy Mike (Daniel Stern -- HOME ALONE, CITY SLICKERS) are a pair of die-hard basketball fans who'd do anything to help their team win ... even if it means kidnapping Scott before the final game! But when Scott ends up being a tough competitor off the court, too, he hilariously turns the tables on his dim-witted captors and sends the fast-breaking fun into overtime! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a very good movie!
Dan Akroyd and Damon Wayans are the highlight of this movie. Daniel Stern plays his typical eccentric character. This movie is a very funny story of two fans going way too far to help their team, the Boston Celtics. This is one of Dan Akroyd's better films. I enjoyed it immensely and I would recommend it highly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny basketball story
Celtic Pride is a good movie with a funny cast. This movie wasn't meant for Oscar recommendations so all the reviewers who think this is such a horrible movie need to lighten up. If you take this movie seriously, you probably won't like it, but if you watch it for what it is you'll enjoy it. Some parts are stupid, but Stern, Wayans, and Akroyd are funny together as the two die-hard fans kidnap the star player for the Utah Jazz. I bought the DVD for cheap so it was worth it. Other than the widescreen presentation of the movie, the DVD offers no extras. If you like basketball get this movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Funny, Enjoyable Basketball Flick
Hmmm. I don't understand the negative reviews of this film. I thought it was funny and good entertainment. I give it three and one-half stars, especially if one loves sports.

The Utah Jazz meet the Boston Celtics in the final two games of a fictitious NBA championship series. Two Celtics fans who live and die with their beloved team are at the game, and get a bit more involved in the outcome of the series than most fans would, that's for sure. I laughed out loud a number of times watching this film, and that's how I judge a comedy.

I guess some of the reviewers who didn't like the film were disappointed that the film wasn't a documentary or something. Ya know, the basketball isn't real, guys! It's a movie, with actors and extras and probably semi-pro players doing the action scenes. (To be honest, the action was pretty good, in my opinion.)

The plot has been related a number of times below, so I'll just add a few observations.

Aykyrod (Jimmy Flahety) is as deadpan, goofy and funny as ever, on a par with his best. Stern (Mike O'Hara) is his equal in comedy. And Wayans (Lewis Scott) gets the superstar disdain for the fans just about perfect.

I really identified with the fan-tastical devotion to the Celtics since I'm a superstitious sports fan of the same ilk as Jimmy and Mike. They have great seats near the court, but switch seats depending upon when the game is played. If their team starts losing, they'll switch back to try to change the Celtic's luck. They'll ask their neighbors in the stands to do the same. Or even everybody in their section of seats. It's a mark of their devotion to the team. Oh, by the way, they have heckling down cold with some hilarious and dead-on insults so much so that they even rattle the Utah Jazz coach into almost rushing them in the stands.

Jimmy and Mike's efforts as 'sixth men' are, well, unconventional. And, as could be expected, the plan doesn't quite turn out they way they envisioned. It's light and funny throughout the film.

Recommended, especially for anyone who is more than a casual fan of the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Dan's deliver two thumbs up!
This movie is one of the all time greatest sports comedies of the past decade. I've seen it a half dozen times, and it's just as funny every time. Being a Celtics fan myself, I know how much Boston fans want a championship in any sport. So if you're into sports and a good comedy, get this movie!

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Few Funny Parts
This movie has a few funny parts to it but the rest of the jokes make for rather dull moments and they will only garner a chuckle if your a 30+ year old couch potato who likes to watch sports all day and is one of those die hard fans pictured in this film. I was expecting to see something better because it had one of the Wayans Brothers in it but I was disappointed. ... Read more

Description

Sunni (Kari Wuhrer, TV’s "Anaconda," "Higher Learning," TV’s "Sliders") is a beautiful singer with an attitude, and is about to record her first album. Deacon (Peter Outerbridge, "Mission to Mars," TV’s "Millenium"), is an ex-tycoon producer whose popularity has gone downhill and who thinks he can make it big again with this young sex kitten. He tries everything to turn her tin ear into gold, but she just can't carry a tune. Drowning his sorrows at a karaoke bar, he stumbles upon a young housewife (Gail O’Grady, TV’s "American Dreams," "NYPD Blue," "China Beach) who is more at home in the kitchen than behind a microphone, but has an amazing voice. He convinces her to lend her voice to what she believes is a demo tape. Her voice is dubbed over Sunni's entire album which ultimately hits the top of the charts. The fans go wild and demand a live concert. Will the two women meet? How will Deacon handle the scam he has pulled? Will the fans get the live concert they crave? ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Superficiality at its best
POSSIBLE SPOILER

This movie is probably the most complete compendium of commonplaces I have seen in years. Every cliché in the book is there, from the failed musician in rehab, to the unscrupulous producers, to the frustrated housewife, to the mindless bimbo. Oh, by the way, in the subplot department we find the unsupportive husband, the moronic teenage son and the angelical little daughter.

I'm not saying that you can't have a good time watching this movie, if you find a moment in which you don't want to occupy your head in more demanding tasks, but the shortcomings are impossible to conceal. There is no character development whatsoever, the kind of "comedy of errors" procedure is specially annoying since nobody can understand why do they want to complicate things in such a stupid way, the ending is "Singing in the Rain" like (and that should be enough to get the picture), and so on.

The acting doesn't help a lot the efforts of the, apparently gifted, screenwriters to put some intelligent humor in the dialog. The male main character is appalling and the rest of his male colleagues are not much better, except for the one who plays the cajoling producer, which is even worse. However, it is fair to say that the difference with the women performances is monumental. Gail O'Grady gives a dignified rendering of her one-sided character and, although the script forces her to do stupid things, she manages to remain lovable to the audience. Kari Wuhrer is superb. She succeeds in taking her dumb-brunette role and pulling a person out of it, with different facets and an opening for development, which is aborted because she doesn't get enough time to work on it. But this is not her fault, of course. I would love to see her in a really interesting role in which she could show what she can, as well as how great she looks, which is undeniable, by the way.

As I said, you can spend an uncritical one hour and half watching this movie if you are not looking for fancy things like logic, character development or intelligent entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Movie!!
This movie was great!! I loved it!! I loved it so much that I want to find out where I can find the movie's music/soundtrack! I cannot find anywhere that sells a soundtrack. I would like know if someone can tell me who it is that is the voice behind Maggie (Gail O'Grady), the titles of all the songs and where I could find a list of the songs on the movie... and possibly the lyrics. I know the name of four of the songs:
*SATURDAY
*DESPERATE MEASURES
*IF LOVE COULD ONLY LIVE
*NAME OF LOVE

Could someone help me??

Top movie!! EXCELLENT!! ***** FIVE STARS!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Servicing Sunni
Lip Service (2001) (a.k.a. Out of Sync)
Starring: Gail O'Grady, Peter Outerbridge, and Kari Wuhrer
Co-Starring: Stewart Bick, Harvey Atkin, Jerry Ciccoritti, Ryan Dennis, Jonathon Whittaker, and Isabella Fink
Directed By: Graeme Campbell (many sci-fi TV shows)
Rated: Not Rated (equivalent of a very, very tame PG-13)

Milli Vanilla, Kari Wuhrer style

VH1, in all of its suckiness, does manage to produce a few bright spots in its vapid schedule. Out of Sync/Lip Service is one of those things.

A few years ago, I managed to catch this film on VH1 something like twice, and it was never heard from again. Understand that at this time it was called Out of Sync, so of course I searched for a DVD release of this film under that title, until I discover Lip Service on Amazon. Same cast, some story, same everything as Out of Sync. So I ordered it. And while I can't say I'm not disappointed with the DVD release, it's serviceable.
___________________________________________________________

Plot

Maggie Stanley is a bored housewife and mother, until one night when she is doing karaoke at a restaurant. Her breathtaking voice catches the ear of washed up record producer Roger Deacon. Deacon is currently having trouble with his latest musical charge, a hopelessly bad "singer" named Sunni. That is until he asks Maggie to record a few of his songs. What Maggie doesn't know is that Roger has passed off her voice as Sunni's, and Sunni becomes a superstar. Making matters worse is a planned wireless concert of Sunni's - and she doesn't know it's not her voice. Though Maggie's family doesn't believe her, she and Roger must team up to stop Sunni's concert once and for all.
___________________________________________________________

The Cast

Gail O'Grady as Maggie Stanley
(TV's China Beach, NYPD Blue, and American Dreams)
In real life, Gail O'Grady is a big name in TV movies and also in TV series. However, in Lip Service O'Grady is convincing as bored, amd then life-loving, and then furious housewife Maggie Sranley. I can't think of any other actress better than her for this rule.

Peter Outerbridge as Roger Deacon
(Cool Runnings, Better Than Chocolate, Mission To Mars)
Peter Outerbridge, a fantastic actor whom I've never heard of, gives a commanding performance as a record producer pulling off the ultimate music deception.

Kari Wuhrer as Sunni
(TV's Sliders, Kissing a Fool, Eight Legged Freaks)
Kari Wuhrer (the queen of direct-to-video "erotic thrillers") has long been known as being very hot, but a terrible actress. Thank God that's exactly what the role of Sunni (an awful singer who thinks she can sing) calls for!
___________________________________________________________

So, What Did I Think?

Whichever title (Lip Service or Out of Sync) you prefer to call, it, this is a suprisingly excellent TV movie with commanding performances. Though you're more likely to rub it off as just another terrible TV-movie, it's a lot more than just that. It's actually a rather good social commentary, and it's entertaining too.

And did I mention Kari Wuhrer is hot?

DVD Overview

In a word: Awful.

Previews: This "feature" is simply a bunch of previews for other Starlight Entertainment releases. This company's releases seem to be domestic thrillers and the like that air on the Lifetime channel.

Star Bios: Bios of the three leading stars. Too bad, like all star bios on DVDs, it's simply filler. And soon, they'll be out-of-date as well.

Scene Selection, which is of course, on every single DVD. It's really not a feature.

Unfortunately, there are no other audio options, suntitles, or even closed captioning on this disc.

Not a great buy, but fans of this film will be glad it's available to buy.

Note: This film is also available on VHS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Out of Sync-- Original Title
This is an outstanding movie. I have not seen the Lip Service version but rather saw the Out of Sync original, so there may be nudity in this one but the original was OK for older teens. A couple of bedroom scenes that you may not want to have to explain to youngsters but no actual nudity.

This movie was a lot of fun. My 60-something mother and 24-year old brother saw it together and enjoyed it thoroughly so there seems to be no generation gap. I enjoyed watching it with them even though I had already seen it so it also seems to be a movie you can watch several times. ... Read more
