5-0 out of 5 stars CW Thompson
The best sailing movie I've ever seen. The action sequences were thrilling and makes you feel like part of the race. I've been waiting for the DVD release for some time now, we've almost worn out our VHS copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adrenaline rush on the water.......
To start out with, like other reviewers have stated, it is terrific to see this movie out on DVD after so long. I realized, when I watched this movie for the first time, you don't have to be a fan of boat racing to love this movie.

The cinematography just can't be beat with absolutely wonderful shots putting you dead center in the action. It's a great experience in how the filmmakers shoot you back and forth onto the boats and then create sweeping panoramic views of strategic boat maneuvers. Top notch sailboat racing, bar none.

The DVD is remastered in high definition and is crystal clear with superb detail and color. As for sound, Dolby 5.1 or DTS would have been the icing on the cake but I won't sell this DVD short. The Dolby Surround it does have still gets the job done just fine and sounds excellent.

You can't go wrong with Wind and I recommend this movie to anyone who likes great racing and sporting competition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even the hard-core AC snobs and fanatics will admit --
...that they secretly love this movie. Despite its cheesy, Hollywood take on the America's Cup and its retelling of Dennis Conner's adventures 'on-the-other-side-of-the-pizza' this movie is not only beautiful eye-candy but more importantly it is exactly what they say in the movie: its good, clean fun.

If you're trying to get friends and family intersted in taking a sail, this is one of the best tools to get the blood following -- yup, there are a lot of yachts, but there is the scene with the 14s. Enough excitement to dispell the idea of sailing as a laid-back sport.

For the AC die-hards, its a chance to see the 12-meters in action once again, to hear the legendary PJ Montgomery comment on the races and read the tech/advisory credits which reads like a AC who's who list. So it isn't "real" or even possible (the 'whumper' is what kills it for some) but after all, you're looking at a movie. Enjoy it for what it is and appreciate the fact that this movie is the product of a love of sailing!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have in your DVD collection!
I got my DVD version from Amazon yesterday (3/13/03), a replacement for my battered VHS tape. I've noticed some scenes in the movie trailer that were not in the movie, and I don't know why they were excluded from it.

The digital enhanced video is overwhelmingly better than the VHS, but I wish the digital cameras were available back when they filmed this movie. The digital audio really puts you in the middle of the actions.

One regret, I wish I had seen this movie in the theater when it came out.

I can't wait to go sailing in a laser this summer...

5-0 out of 5 stars 1 of the 10 best Sports Event Movies EVER... On DVD AT LAST!
It's been more then a decade since this sleeper cult hit was in the theaters and an equally long period of time that this film was only available on VHS and Laserdisc.

Now, at long last, the wait is over!

Wind appeals for a number of reasons.

Primarily its a very human story of ambition, competition, love, loss, and redemption. What makes the film work is fantastic photography/camerawork by Mata Yamamoto, a soaring/pumping soundtrack by Basil Poledouris, and a compelling drama played out by some very brainy characters played by some very good actors.

Think of it as "The Cutting Edge" and "Strictly Ballroom" with a little more testosterone and in a sailboat!

The DVD is pretty bare-bones, but a Digital Widescreen Hi-Definition Remastering and Dolby surround make up for it. A Special Edition would have been nice, but, considering how long we had to pray for this one it's hardly required. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy Friday the 13th :)
Yes, I was pretty happy when I heard that Paramount were expanding their released Friday DVD's to include Parts 5 and 6. Especially six, as it has a special place in my (bleeding) heart. This was the first Friday the 13th I ever watched and to this day still remains my favourite. Argueably, this is the first friday the 13th where the film openly makes fun of itself and the genre yet includes all the gore a horror enthusiast could want :)

Some of the deaths are downright humorous (Breaking a guy in half - literally), but a ROCKING Soundtrack from the Immortal ALICE COOPER (He's the best!) definately makes this a necessity for the home collection.

The only reason this DVD gets 4 out of 5 is due to the Severe (!) lack of Bonus Features and the Sound. PARAMOUNT: Could we please get 5.1 mixes?!?!?! If not, at least some Deleted Scenes / Interviews / Commentary for the Bonus Features section? Let's make a little EFFORT here guys, and stop stiffing us on the Discs, because we all full well know that in a year or so, you'll probably release a box set with enough features to make you gag, rendering these discs obsolite. :( Not good.

Well, back to topic, this film was great; my personal favourite Friday the 13th and DEFINATELY worth a view... or two ... or three ... etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars JASON LIVES WITH A VENGEANCE on DVD in THIS VERY FUN SEQUEL
First, I can say I liked JASON LIVES - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6, which I thought was one of the better sequels in the film series and a big improvement over the depressing NEW BEGINNING. JASON LIVES - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6 was surprise hit when released theatrically on Friday, August 1, 1986 as people packed up movie houses to see Jason at his evil deeds.

In this sequel, Tommy Jarvis (b-film babe Thom Matthews)along with his friend Alan Hawes (Welcome Back Kotters' Horshack - Ron Palillo) go to the cemetary to dig up Jason's grave, believing he is not dead. Thier worst fears are confirmed as Jason comes back to life by bolts of lightening - and this sequel lives up to its title, JASON LIVES !

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6 is filled with one liners and comical bits to fluffen up this fun horror film. Upon Jason's resurrection, he goes back to the camp, targets on the camp counsellors and even pays the kiddies a visit, a first in the series. This films' intro gets the James Bond 007 treatment, feautures Tony Goldwyn (who became recognized in 1990's Ghost) and has an ending I thought was the best ending in the film series. JASON LIVES in definitely fun to watch from beginning to end.

I bought the DVD this week and I can say I am glad that I did. First, the DVD cover and the menu board are designed very BADLY and is all bad !Paramount should have left the original artwork alone. Alongside, this film is presented in standard widescreen (1.85:1) with Digital Dolby Surrond 2.0 Sound (a first in the series)that sound much better than the first five films on DVD. JASON LIVES' picture quality is in my opinion, the best transfer to DVD I have seen. With hardly no blemishes, grain and dirt, I was very pleased with the picture quality of JASON LIVES. Also, with lacking extras (Paramount's specialty), there is a teaser trailer that I thought was well done. I was hoping for a theatrical trailer, too. That, was not included.

Overall, JASON LIVES is the one to have on DVD and is overall fun. Too bad the DVD cover artwork is shoddy. A case of "don't judge a book by its cover".

4-0 out of 5 stars Fady Ghaly's reviews
This entry in the series-described by many other reviewers as being the "coolest"-surprisingly had a great sense of humor, and although it is wittier than it is frightening, it still manages to offer a few honest shocks and an underlying feeling of tensity. And speaking of the word "shocks", this completely re-created Jason that is featured in this one is given a change that is ever so drastic to the former ones, in both physical and mental aspects that were ever so suitable for his character in general. For he now has transfigured into this unstoppable killing machine, this decaying zombie-like stalker who's beyond from being scarier than he ever was, which makes matters all but more entertaining as it even builds up greater tension. No longer does he run after his victims or whimper when he's injured, because from the looks of it...he no longer feels any pain. He's become completely impassive. The filmmakers really gave us a treat this time. First it was the infamous hockey mask, and now it's an entirely new Jason! What is so unique and realistic about him is that the filmmakers kept in mind of the period of time he spent beneath soil, and so bother to expose of the affect that has upon his maturing carcass, as you actually observe maggots swarming all throughout his face in the beginning as he awoke, indulging upon his flesh and such...or whatever remained of it, anyway. It's brilliant!
And I was glad over the comeback-the actual comeback-of Tommy Jarvis's character, played by Thom Matthews this time rather than Corey Feldman. It's always interesting to see the reaction a character has when realizing that his worst nightmare, one to completely disintegrate the joyous individual in whom he once was, has re-awakened to rather than torment him in his dreams, do so in the flesh. (Whatever remained of it, anyway.)

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Slasher
Friday The 13th 6 is a trash film. That much is obvious. Does that mean it can't be fun and entertaining? Of course not. Jason is ressurected again and begins a new batch of killings at the newly renamed Camp Crystal Lake. The movie has a more stylish direction to it than the others. What this movie also delivers a sense of humor. This is something that was lacking from the others. Once again, the storyline is another rehash of every other Friday The 13th movie. Just be aware of that before you see this expecting intelligent filmmaking.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE MOVIE IS GOOD THE DVD IS BAD
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6 JASON LIVES is one of the best horror movies i ever seen but this DVD just [stinks]... i mean it's just in stereo no 5.1 surround sound no behind the scenes no feature commentary track with director Tom Mcloughlin and no DIRECTOR'S CUT do not buy this evil DVD it [stinks]... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best show ever.
I wasn't even born when the show came out, but I watched it in re-runs whenever I could. This is one of my favourite shows of all time. Great characters, and good comedy.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Season (1975-76)
I think the first year of this show was the best.John Travolta was still an equal player in the cast and hadn't skyrocketed out of the classroom with his "Saturday Night Fever" and "Grease" movies, and Horshack was still really wierd--which I always thought was hysterical. And those Uncle jokes of Gabe Kaplan's were unforgettable.

Here are the first season episodes--all of which would make for an excellent DVD set.
