5-0 out of 5 stars A Weekend Classic (5 Stars)
You can't go wrong with this movie. While there wasn't much of a plot, the action and the humor made you forget about all that. The cast alone makes this the best out of the entire series of movies, but what really makes this movie stand out from the other three was the impact it had. Ice Cube was brilliant as Craig, Chris Tucker stole the show as Smokey, and Tiny Lister became America's favorite bully (and in some places, his name is slang for bully now) as Deebo. And the rest of the lineup was perfect too. You had John Witherspoon (Mr. Jones), Bernie Mac (The Reverend), Faizon Love (Big Perm, I mean, Big Worm), and who could forget the hilarious A.J. Johnson (Ezell)? You can sift through the entire movie and find one liners and dialogue that people STILL use today. You can't say that about the other two movies. Even though Next Friday and Friday After Next are funny in their own way, they will never come close to the original. When I first saw it, I laughed so hard that I started crying. Even the opening scene was hilarious (when the Jehovah's Witnesses get the door slammed in their faces). I can watch this movie everyday for a week and still find it just as funny as the first time I saw it. If you haven't seen it by now, then you must not want to see it. Go out and get it, you'll love it. Trust me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Ghetto Comedy
Ice Cube pulls off a great performance as Craig, who is the straight-laced guy who recently got fired from his job and he has a lot of crazy friends, his best friend 'Smokey' (Chris Tucker) is a pothead who is smoking the weed that he was suppose to be selling for 'Big Worm'. Later we meet the street thug Deebo who is a huge guy and he's the kind of guy who'll mess with you if you ever step in his way and the situations that Craig and Smokey get into are hilarious, Meanwhile Big Worm is getting fed up with Smokey playing with his money and he tells Smokey that if he doesn't have his money by 10:00, he's killing to kill him and Craig and together they try to come up with ideas on how to come up with the money, later on we get to the highlight of the movie when Craig beats the living ... out of Deebo.

If you love gangster comedies, then you'll love Friday, also recommended are Don't Be a Menace and Friday After Next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Three
If you want to laugh your ass off buy this movie. It stars Ice Cube as Greg, and Chris Tucker as Smokey. Chris Tucker makes this movie good with his winny girly voice and always smokin weed. Ice cube delivers a good performance as Greg the guy who gets fired on his day off for stealing boxes and gets high for the first time. There are other great charecters like Debo the tall bully of the hood, Disel the crack head who will doing anything for two dollars, and daddy Gregs bog catching father who has to use the bathroom constantly. Over all this movie is hilarious just like the second and third one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hey Craig...Lemme borrow yo VCR right quick!
"Ain't nobody out here man I don't even know why I'm trippin, Don't nobody wanna mess wit da Smoke Dog Rooo Rooo, roooo rooo, Roooo Roooo!....who dat?!?"

"It ain't dem niccas that act hard...."

"Oh SHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"

Man this movie is hands down the greatest comedy I have ever seen. Even when it turns serious and they are about to get smoked it is still funny. And when Craig was finna get beat up by Deebo, the classic line that makes me laugh everytime comes up "yeah put that gun down Craig and get knocked out like ya father used to!"
There are so many memorable lines and scenes that it would be useless to try and go through them all cause I would end up reciting the whole movie. My favorite parts however are when REd gets knocked out by Deebo and the father gets out the car.
"YOu want some of this too old man huh!"
"NO!!!!!!!get yo a$$ up boy and get in this car, I told you bout messing around with these people!"

My other favorite part is when Craig is high and he's talking to Debbie on the couch, and he turns and sees little puppie dogs staring at him and he goes "What the FHFG! man i'm trippin"

Another part when it's getting dark and Smokey and craig are trying to come up with a plan and Smokey says:
"Alright here's what we gon do, I'ma give you the gun, then I'ma go to my house and chill, you sit here on the porch and wait for dem niccas and later on you call me and tell me what happened!"

THis movie is funny from beginning (Jehovah's Witnesses and No Milk) to end ("I don't wanna die...Hey craig I love you man") and is very memorable. The performances were excellent, the cast was excellent. Even the concept of letting the plot come to them as they sit on the porch all day and do nothing is excellent. The music and soundtrack was also excellent. The movie is excellent. A Must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME!
Hilarious!!! This movie cheers me up everytime I pop it in to my DVD player. Chris Tucker and Ice Cube are brilliant together. Smokey(Tucker) is my favorite character. He's just plain hilarious in this movie and alls he does is smoke weed..."That's alright, dont worry about what the F*** I be doin" LOL. My fav line is..."I know you dont smoke weed, I know this, but its friday, you aint got no job, and you aint got S*** to do". I love watchin this on a hot summer day, sippin on lemonade and chillin. BUY THIS DVD. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 30's ain't all that bad
Six friends in NY face the emotions of turning 30. I could so identify with this movie. I'm 36, so a lot of what some of the characters were dealing with in this film, I've dealt with them or know others who have. 30 years to life starts with a birthday and ends with a birthday. At the beginning of the movie Natalie comes home from work to a surprise birthday party. Instead of being happy she screams "I'm 30" and runs away crying. Usually birthdays are reasons to celebrate, for Natalie she is facing the fact that she "Has an NBA, A Great well paying job, and is in great shape, but why is she not happy or married." Natalie really wants to be in a relationship, but she has trouble in the relationship area. Natalie is not the only character dealing with being 30 or about to turn 30. You have Joy who is in a 4 year relationship, but she really wants to be married to Leland. Joy has convinced herself that they do not need that piece of paper to label their relationship (man if I had a nickel for every time I heard that line I would be RICH). Leland feels if they get married, everything will change in the relationship, so he is comfortable with just living together the way they have been. Bottom line is he is scared!!! Malik is a marketing executive who has a negative idea about relationships. He sees relationships as "leasing with the option to buy", and he goes out of his way to NOT put himself in a situation where the relationship can get serious. However, he has no problems sleeping with woman, after woman, and forgets the names of some women. Malik works in Marketing and gets a promotion. He does not like how his career is mapped out for him over the next 10 years. He was informed of his career path and his projected salary by the time he was 40! He quits his job to pursue his dream of being a model. Troy is a broke actor comedian who is always trying to borrow money from women, and steals food from his friends. Don't expect him to pay the tab if you go out to eat. He can't cover his part of the bill. Stephanie is a successful real estate agent who has been dealing with weight issues all her life. To hide her pain she makes jokes about her weight before anyone else can start, but she longs to live happy and slimmer like her other female friends do.

Joy finally admits to Leland that she wants to get married and it's a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. Now he is feeling the pressure to get her an engagement ring. Leland "accidentally" gets Joy an engagement ring, and when lets her know it was a mistake she breaks up with him. Stephanie loses weight and suddenly she is getting attention from men and loves it. Nicole is dating a doctor who loves to be served and taken care of (by Kadeem Hardison), but when her job performance suffers she has to make a choice.

The movie is could be depressing for some, but for me I laughed a lot. There is a stigma to turning 30, and I happen to enjoy being in my 30's. The movie is about reflection, about taking chances, and about being honest to yourself about what you truly want in life. I enjoyed the movie so much I watched it twice before I returned it, and I plan to purchase my own copy. This is a good film.

There is a hilarious scene that involves a 6th toe on the foot of one of the characters. Janet Hubert (Aunt Viv #1 from the Fresh Prince of Bell Air) plays Joys Mom in the movie. Music artist Monifah makes a quick appearance. Blink and you will miss her, it's that quick.

There is another scene that Joy shares with her Mom discussing her just living with her boyfriend. Joy is trying to justify it, but some really great lines come out we all may have heard over and over. "That's your problem you're afraid you are going to scare him off. You know it's what you want (marriage) I can see it in your eyes." "For a man sex outside of marriage is like finding money. If no one claims it you will be spending it until it's all gone." "Why buy something you can get for free."

The DVD has no significant extras. You get a filmography of the actors in the movie. It would have been nice to get some film commentary from the director and the actors in the movie. The movie stars Ericka Alexander (Living Single, Cosby show), Melissa De Sousa (The Best Man, Miss Congeniality), Tracy Morgan (The Tracy Morgan Show, SNL, Head of State), Paula Jai Parker (Proud Family, Friday, My Baby Daddy, Phone Booth), Allen Payne (Blue Hill Avenue, Cosby Show, Jasons Lyric, Vampire in Brooklyn, New Jack City), TE Russel (City of Angels), Kadeem Hardison (A Different World, Vampire in Brooklyn, White Men Can't Jump, Biker Boyz)

5-0 out of 5 stars Life and Love...the best journey ever...
30 Years to Life is a cute romantic comedy that follows the lives of six African American friends as they approach thirty years old in New York City. The cast consists Allen Payne, Tracy Morgan, Kadeem Hardison, Erica Alexander, Paula Jai Parker, T. Russell and Melissa De Sousa. As you can tell from the cast names and if you know their filmographies...then you know that all of these people can really act. So they have taken and crafted each character into a believable individual that most will be able to identify with.

The movie covers the span of one year. It begins with a birthday celebration and ends with one. You get an inside view of what women want in a relationship and also what men want. It is hilarious as the characters portray the most shallow to something of substance. Sometimes all that we think we want in a person (outer trappings like money, career, good looks)...does not enhance the inner person (inner qualities like politeness, caring, considerate, loving, giving and unselfishness). Paula's character deals with being a great person inside (and a great cook), but overlooked by most men because she is overweight. She has an extreme make over which takes her on an enlightening journey to get the man of her dreams. Tracy's character seems to be a non-committal jerk, trying to break into the comedy business and bumming money from women...but later he reveals why a broke brother does what he does (a self-esteem kinda thing...issues). Erika's character lives with her boyfriend of four years. She wants to get married, but he does not. He goes to buy her a bracelet and is accidently given another customer's ring purchase. So he does not have the heart to tell his girlfriend that their engagement was a mistake, fake, crazy mix-up...this was deep. Allen's character quits a good job to follow his dream of being a model. He is also a womanizer that has left a trail of loved them & left them. He is forced to see the damage that his one night stands causes to women with good intentions. Melissa's character discovers that one must be careful what they pray for because you just might get it...and it might not be a pretty picture.

In the course of one year each character grows older, but will they grow wiser and more mature? I enjoyed this one and highly recommend it. Paula & Tracy really came out of the box with their performances and I look forward to more from them in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good movie
This movie was good. I wish that it had a larger audience. Tracey Morgan was superb and very funny. Please support it on DVD, since it could not be supported in the movies.

I don't know what to say. My cousin told me that she had this movie she'd never heard of and after watching it, I now see why! This is a film about friends embarking on their 30th birthdays, their lives and what they haven't accomplished. Marriage, Weight loss, Career goals.... shoot I'm 31 and trust me it's always going to be a point in your life that you're questioning yourself about something! I wouldn't spend my money on it, and yes it's African American and ya'll know I'm all like support your people.

I also know a "Joy" (she just got married after being with her boyfriend for about 15 years, granted some of those years were junior high & high school!), a Malik (damn him!) & a Stephanie (working from the outside in vs. the inside out). I cannot wait to purchase the accompanying book - 100 things you should know before turning 30. Check out the 30yearstolife.com site for teh exact title. In a long and varied career, She Hate Me is easily one of Spike Lee's most unusual films. On the one hand, it's a drama. On the other, it's a comedy. Then there's the structure: a crazy quilt made up out of several different stories. Even the style is a patchwork incorporating animation and pseudo-documentary--in the vein of Lee's 1986 hit She's Gotta Have It. It all revolves around one John Henry "Jack" Armstrong (8 Mile's Anthony Mackie), a successful executive at a biotech company much like ImClone (the one that brought Martha Stewart down). When Jack blows the whistle and loses his job, ex-fiancée Fatima (Ray's Kerry Washington), who left him for another woman, offers the now-penniless Jack $10,000 to impregnate her. All goes well, so they set up business together, and he proceeds to impregnate countless gay women, including mafia princess Simona (Monica Bellucci). If there's one thing that keeps it all together, it's Mackie, who handles the many changes Lee puts him through with admirable aplomb. --Kathleen C. Fennessy ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars PREPOSTEROUS BUT ENJOYABLE
There are so many things in this movie that just couldn't happen, starting with a wife and non-military lawyer, defending her husband, and the inconsistencies in the plot line. However, director Carl Franklin keeps the movie going so briskly and the cast is so good, that I overlooked these and found myself enjoying the movie very much.
Ashley Judd plays Claire Kubik, who discovers that her husband isn't who he says he is, and then has to confront her own doubts as she tries to save his life.

Morgan Freeman is the recovering alcoholic, former military attorney, who decides to help her out and keep off the juice.
Jim Caviezel (Passion of the Christ) is Ashley's husband and his performance is deeply moving, yet somehow dark and disturbing.
Bruce Davison's small role as the big shot general, is coldly efficient.
Amanda Peet plays Ashley's somewhat self-centered sister to the tee, and Adam Smith as Embrey, the green lawyer assigned to the case, also does well.
HIGH CRIMES pulls a twist at the end that's kind of "cheap" but it does work.
Joseph Finder, the author of the book on which this movie was based, gives some interesting commentary on the extras, and even has a featured role in the film.
Not a bad way to spend a couple hours.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced And Well Acted
"High Crimes" is based on a book of the same name by Joseph Finder, and is so frequently the case, the book is better than the movie. Which isn't to say that this is a bad movie; in fact, it is a very good one. In today's world, fascinated with trials and the legal system, the emphasis on courtroom events is to be expected, but as a retired lawyer with 30 years in the Courts, I find this aspect a bit ho-hum. But the underlying plot of a military atrocity being possibly covered up by the court martial of a scapegoat NCO is effectively rendered here. Ashley Judd, who I view as a B- level actress does a commendable job as the lawyer wife of the accused ex-soldier. Morgan Freeman, who I rank as an A- actor, and a favorite of mine, is excellent as the alchoholic ex-military lawyer who tries to help defend the accused, played very well by Jim Caviezel. It is a fast paced flic with a surprise twist ending that is a good effort and an enjoyable movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars A taut legal thriller
Joseph Finder's bestselling novel comes to life in this well-made, though somewhat predictable, thriller as a savvy and love-struck lawyer is pitted against the military and its covert actions. Ashley Judd plays Claire Kubik, a lawyer on the way to a partnership until her husband is arrested for a military crime he swears he didn't commit. To defend him, Claire must navigate military law and threats, getting in deeper and more dangerously with every half-truth she uncovers.

The plot has fewer holes than most thrillers, although most viewers will see the "twist" a mile away. And that a law firm would jettison one of its promising stars because her husband was arrested is preposterous. Wouldn't they help in the defense? Still, given the holes in most thrillers these days, these lapses are minor. The acting is solid, with Judd creating a gutsy, smart woman who is capable of both unfaltering love and fury. Morgan Freeman does a fine job with his thin material as a once-alcoholic lawyer who is "a thorn in the military's side." James Caveziel, as Claire's husband, is less complex; his pleading got on my nerves by the end. Supporting roles by Amanda Peet (Claire's floozy sister) and Adam Smith (a young military lawyer) are adequate, though not highly memorable.

The strength of this film is in the pacing and the seamless way in which it unfolds. The issues it raises about the United States's involvement in El Salvador provide an interesting, though not fully developed, frame. Highly enjoyable, though not perfect, this film is a good way to spend two hours with a bowl of popcorn at hand.

3-0 out of 5 stars A script with holes but watchable!
Who really believes a lawyer may defend to her husband? Weird jury. Don´t you?
But if you let that point outside , you will watch an interesting film with a bit of film noir . Freeman plays an alcoholic lawyer who suddenly must accepth a defiant case .
Ashley Judd plays a convincing role ; she ´s one of the most beautiful actress in the world and many times the camera reminds us. However the script is surrounded of smart crossroads.
Watch James Caviezel as Ron Chapman . Carl Franklin is a consistent film maker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie, Great acting!!
This is a perfect movie in every way. The acting is A++ and the plot is even better!! Ashley Judd plays the wife of a military man (Jim Caviezel) They are living a perfect life in a nice house when their world get turned upside down!! Judds husband is accused of killing a hand full of people when serving in El Salvador many years back. Judd cannot believe such a thing and she hires a lawer who knows how the military works. The lawyer played by Morgan Freeman is unsure about the case but then agrees to take it on. the story is filled lies, and threats and deception. It will keep you on the edge of your seat untill the very end, great movie top notch acting. 5 stars!!!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I'VE NEVER SEEN A BLACK HORROR MOVIE THAT WAS THIS GOOD!
A MORTICIAN TELLS 4 STORIES TO A GROUP OF THUGS. THE 1ST AND 3RD ARE STANDARD TALES WITH AN AFRICAN AMERICAN TWIST BUT THE 2ND AND FOURTH TALES ARE DIFFERENT.
1ST TALE; A MAN IS BRUTALLY MURDERED BY RACIST, CROOKED COPS. AND THE BLACK COP THAT WITNESSED IT IS HAUNTED BY THE MAN'S VOICE. GOOD TALE AND WITH A COOL ENDING.

2ND TALE; A BOY IS BEING TERRORIZED BY A MONSTER AT HIS DOOR. HE TELLS A TEACHER THAT HE'S ALWAYS IN BRUISES BECAUSE OF THE MONSTER, BUT THE TEACHER DOESN'T BELIEVE HIM UNTIL HE COMES TO HIS HOUSE. NOW THIS IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THIS TALE WAS THE LEAST OF THE WHOLE MOVIE, BUT IT'S NOT BAD. IT'S JUST NOT AS GOOD AS THE OTHER 3.

3RD TALE; A WHITE MAN WHO'S RUNNING FOR MAYOR LIVES IN A FORMER SLAVE HOUSE THAT HAS DOLLS IN IT THAT ARE ALIVE. THIS IS GOOD, AND IT WAS PURE GENIUS HOW THE DOLLS CAME TO LIFE AND JUST SCARED THE LIVING SH.. OUT OF HIM. GREAT TALE.

4TH TALE; A THUG IS SENTENCED TO BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION. THIS IS THE BEST TALE THAT THIS MOVIE HAS TO OFFER. IT SHOWS WHAT OFTEN HAPPENS TO THUGS. HE KEEPS SAYING HE DON'T GIVE A F... BUT THEN WE HE BLOWS HIS CHANCE AT REDEMPTION, HE WAKES UP AND GETS KILLED.

GREAT MOVIE. THIS BEATS THE ''TALES FROM THE CRYPT'' MOVIES. THEY SHOULD MAKE MORE HORROR MOVIES LIKE THIS. THIS WAS VERY THRILLING AND ALL THE TALES HAD A LOGICAL PLOT TO THEM. DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS ONE!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Scary!
This is one of the best horror movies I had ever saw. I actually found myself sleeping with the light on and the radio blasting to keep my mind off it.

This movie is about three gangsters who go to a funeral home owned by Mr. Simms(Clarence Williams 3). They are trying to get some drugs that belonged to their dead friend. Mr.Simms sidetracks them by telling them these following 4 stories:

1. A black man was murdered by three crooked white cops. A black cop that witnessed this murder is being haunted by the dead man telling him to bring the cops to his grave. This man comes back to life as a monster to take revenge on these cops.

2.A little boy is being attacked by a monster that comes to his room every night. This monster is actually his stepfather.

3.A white politician is taking over a house that used to belong to a white master who murdered his black slaves. A voodoo woman transformed these dead souls into little dolls. These dolls are alive in the house and the politician is being attacked by them.

4. This story was the most powerful. After a black man slayed so many black people he was taken to a temple on a hill. First he was put on this machine where he saw clips of black people being killed by either white or black people. Then he was put in solitary confinement where he saw all the people he killed. Then he wakes up and he gets shot. This was linked to three gangsters we beginned with.

The ending really freaked me out because you will find out who Mr.Simms really was and why these 3 gangsters ended up in this funeral home besides trying to get drugs. Not only was this movie scary but a little humor was in it that made me chuckle. If you SEE the movie besides reading my review you will be scared!

4-0 out of 5 stars ROOT FOR THE GHOSTS!!!!
This is the first movie where I was rooting for the Ghosts or Spirits to get the bad guy. With the exception of the MONSTER skit, I found myself cheering on the Ghosts. I hope that was the intention of the writer or director LOL. The movie wasn't exactly scary and the ending was funny, but it's a movie to watch with a group. A MUST SEE!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Horror in life!!!!
When I first heard about this movie, I was wondering about the concept of the film. When I saw this in theaters, I came away very, very pleased. This was a different take on the horror genre. I saw it as the Horror of living life!!! The stories were thought provoking, but Clarence Williams IMHO stole the movie with his "the stuff"!!! The movie will make you think. Think about your life, and how to change it if you are doing wrong, or being wronged.

A must have in your DVD collection!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars OK by me
Warning: possible spoiler ahead

Any movie that ends with Link from the Mod Squad morphing into Satan Himself and hissing the line, "Welcome to hell....Mothertruckers!" scores 5 stars alone just for that. (Obviously he used a different word than my substitute to get this past the censors.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining delight!
The filmmakers know you've heard this tale before - true life chronicle of a young singing star's rise and tragic fall - and so they wisely downplay the standard bio trappings and instead focus on a raucously entertaining ride through Frankie Lymon's woman troubles. The smart screenplay revolves around the court battle of Lymon's three wives (yes, three!) over song royalties, leading to vivid (and often humorously contradictory) flashbacks of their lives with the singer. Larenz Tate is magnetic playing the many different sides of the ever-changing lead character, but the film ultimately belongs to Halle Berry, Vivica A. Fox and Lela Rochon as the wives. Each is allowed to shine as the trio portrays 30 years of changes in the women's lives, with Fox drop-dead hilarious as the most outrageous of the three. There's beautifully detailed '60s-era cinematography, sets, costuming and musical numbers, plus a side-splitting turn by Miguel Nunez as a young Little Richard. Major issues (such as '60s race relations) are barely glanced at, but what this film lacks in depth, it makes up for ten-fold in entertainment value. A winner!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3-0 out of 5 stars I may be in the minority, because...
I really didn't care for this movie very much. It told you virtually nothing about young Frankie Lymon's career with the Teenagers, and the focus was on his three wives fighting over whom was most entitled to the small fortune he left behind when he died at age 26 of a heroin overdose in 1968. Instead of a true biography of this young man's tragic story, we got this.

"Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" never really gives you the reason why Lymon (played by the talented actor Larenz Tate) was so very important in the history of R&B/rock and roll. Ignoring the fact that he was the first teenaged idol of rock and roll (like the little Michael Jackson of his era) and was an influence on other groups that would come after his, in this film Frankie was overwhelmingly portrayed as nothing more than some '50s rock music has-been who was a bigamist and a drug addict. On top of that, the three actresses who played his wives (Halle Berry, Lela Rochon, Vivica A. Fox) got more screen time than Larenz Tate did, and was billed over him. Excuse me, but wasn't this film supposed to be Frankie's story? I was not interested in seeing a movie about his wives.

Tate did his best, and I had no problem with the rest of the cast...but the script was just not worthy of his talents. I gave it three stars for the musical performances, but I feel the definitive movie about Frankie's life has yet to be made.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love is Blind and So Are the Women!
The title fits the movie's subject because these women were foolish to falll in love with him. Despite his early career in music and rise to fame, he was on a path to destruction, which he could have controlled. Frankie Lymon, lead singer for the group Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, had the voice that made girls across America scream. But watching the movie, he was also selfish because he used his own members, who were also his friends to pursue a solo career; which was never achieved. He married Zora Taylor, a member of The Platters, Elizabeth Waters, and Emira Eagle; none of whom he divorced.
The movie got me to wonder if any of these women could see below the surface of this man. Why did they allow him to descend into drugs and self-loathing? If one really loves someone, they would either help them through or send them packing. It was obvious that he had them on a string. All three of them had to go to court to prove they were legally married to him and collect money from his estate. Unfortunately, the music industry wasn't as legally together as it is now. Therefore, any claim to what he sang is out of their reach.
Lymon's music still lives on as a reminder of the "good old days" when music wasn't sexually explicit and musicians could actually sing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frankie Lymon for Beginners
I never knew much about Frankie Lymon until I watched this movie. He was one of my father's favorites. This movie, while it did not cover everything and sometimes it was historically inaccurate, it gave a good review of Frankie's rise and fall as a doo-wop star. The acting by Halle Berry, Lorenz Tate, Vivica Fox, and Leah Rochon was superb!

Didn't know much about Frankie, except that he was a bigamist. The acting is great! It is worth having in your library. ... Read more

What I found is Woo is actually a funny and entertaining movie. I think Jada is sassy and smart so there! Tommy Davidson is great in this movie too and yes there is some cinematic chemistry here, it keeps u interested in their relationship. 4-0 out of 5 stars An Original Suspense-Thriller
With a fascinating premise, Phone Booth begins with some well-conceived New York City imagery, then taking viewers to the busy life of crude publicist Stu Shepard, played by Colin Farrell. After making a call to Pamela McFadden (Katie Holmes), who he is having an affair with, though she, quite innocently, does not know that Stu is actually married to his wife Kelly, Stu hears the phone booth ring, and he answers the phone. On the other line is a sniper who will shoot him if he hangs up or tells anyone. Soon, after the Caller proves his motive by gunning down a man ready to force Stu out of the booth, the authorities arrive.
A triumph in some fantastic photography and editing, Phone Booth is a modern example of the quick-cut editing seen in most trailers, but does it well. Split-screen technique is usefully inputted here, again displaying the quick pace of this man's life. A jolting, synthesized musical score accompanies the cinematography, and is at just the right level.
The movie is directed by Joel Schumacher, who handles the premise well, and written by Larry Cohen, whose dialogue is realistic. Stars Colin Farrell and Forest Whitaker, Captain Ramey of the NYPD, have a good screen presence that lasts the single-set suspense-thriller. It is Kiefer Sutherland, as the voice of the Caller, who menaces the characters and the viewers with his taunting, threatening tones, who really steals the show. His demands and hateful voice add to the movie.
However, the "urban reality" that the film provides is only stereotypical and clichéd. Teeming with break-dancers, prostitutes, and baseball-wielding pimps, the inner-city portrayal isn't quite believable, and the shouting prostitutes get really annoying. And while it lacks in a truly exciting finish, the film makes up for it with the tension throughout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intense
Phone Booth is easily one of the most intense 80 minutes in film history. Word to the wise, never pick up a ringing public telephone.

THE STORY:

Stu Shephard (Colin Farrell) is a Manhattan publicist guilty of a few things: being a somewhat dishonest businessman and lustfully fawning after a young actress, Pamela (Katie Holmes) despite being married. Little does he know that someone's been watching him lust after Pam. When Stu enters his Manhattan phone booth to talk to Pam (as has been his ritual) he's taken hostage by a psychotic sniper (Kiefer Sutherland) who's determined to make "bad men" repent for their unrighteous actions. Things go from bad to worse for Stu when he's accused of shooting a street pimp from the booth and the swat team arrives to take him into custody. Unfortunately for him, the sniper won't let him leave the booth till he confesses his sins.

THE COOL THINGS:

It amazes me that the entire movie takes place on a street corner in a phone booth - all 80 minutes of this movie. It amazes me further that the movie manages to remain engaging and enthralling. The suspense maintained by the movie is very reminiscent of Sutherland's other current big profile work, namely 24.

The sniper character voiced by Sutherland is easily the highlight of the movie. The sniper is obviously a psychotic stalker and killer. However, he is also at the same time an avenging angel with an odd sense of justice.

BEST SCENES:

Well, quite honestly, the whole movie is basically one big scene at the phone booth. At a brisk 80 minutes the movie moves along at a brisk pace and is quite honestly one big thrill ride.

THE DVD FEATURES:

Not much to write home about here. For the DVD you get the now standard director's commentary (great listen) plus the theatrical trailer for the movie.

THE VERDICT:

At a short 80 minutes "Phone Booth" is perfect viewing - a quick but intense thrill ride. Think of it like a quick high, it doesn't last very long but is worth every minute.

Highly Recommended

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an entire waste of 81 minutes.
This is a movie that I put off watching for a long time, because it sounded really boring. Trap a man in a phone booth, and talk him to death? Yawn.

I finally watched it with the rationale that it is Colin Farrell in the booth, and therefore would not be another "My Dinner with Andre" kind of movie.

While I've seen better movies, this one kept my attention, and I would never consider it to be 81 minutes of my life irretrievably lost. Colin Farrell is brilliant as Stu Shepard, but the rest of the cast fails to register on the "Wow" scale. Katie Holmes is cute, but horribly miscast, and Forest Whitaker won't be putting this one down as one of his better performances. Nobody else even registers, except of course the caller, who has a suitably creepy voice.

The concept is intriguing, as a mystery caller with a wealth of technology and information seeks to right the wrongs of the world, one slime-ball at a time. Worse offenders must have crossed his path, but for some strange reason, he decides to target Shepard for the "crimes" of fantasizing and nearly cheating on his wife, for faking his success, and for not being nice to people in general. After Shepard manages to tip off the police, and they finally realize that something's not right with the scenario, the movie wraps up in an untidy hurry.

The major let down for me was the prominent billing for Keifer Sutherland, even with his face in the cover shot, so you definitely knew something was wrong by the time you got to the end, said end being quite unsatisfying.

Plot holes abound, but if you can get past them, you will enjoy Farrell's performance.

2-0 out of 5 stars Another Kid movie
This movie is supposed to be another action packed thing. But its more like a 2 year olds scary movie. This guy goes in to a phone boothe at a time given and if he puts down the phone hes gonna get shot. Theres this big red dot that stays on him all the time so if he puts down the phone hes gonna get shot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Flawed but it's has Excellent Direction.
A Sleazy Publicist by the name of Stu Shepard (Colin Farrell), who decide to pick up a ringing phone from a New York City Phone Booth. After he called his Girlfriend/Mistress (Katie Holmes). Once he picked up the phone, Stu starts talking to a Mysterious Deranged Intelligent Person (Voiced by Kiefer Sutherland). Then Stu finds himself on the deadly end of a High-Powered Rifle Scope. Now Stu must outwit a Psychotic Sniper before He's out from the Phone Booth to Freedom.

Directed by Joel Schumacher (8MM, Falling Down, Tigerland) made a Clever, Suspenseful, Taut Dark Comedy Thriller. Farrell gives a Dynamic Performance and a Chilling Voice Work by Sutherland. This film was only shot in 12 Days in December, 2000 and it was release in April, 2003. Which it was probably, the best way to shot the film to keep the mood realistic. DVD has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer (also in Pan & Scan) and an strong-Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD has an fine commentary track by the director and the original theatrical trailer. Do not miss this unique psychological thriller. Terrific Cinematography by Matthew Libatique (Abandon, Gothika, Requiem for a Dream). Written by Larry Cohen (It's Alive Trilogy, Guilty as Sin, Q-The Winged Serpent). Panavision. Grade:A-. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars a cute love story, with comedy thrown in!
Sprung is the story of 4 friends Clyde (Joe Torry), Adina (Paula Jai Parker), Brandy (Tisha Campbell) and Montel (Rusty Cundieff) . Clyde and Adina who are both playas hook up immediately and Adina finds out that Clyde isn't the rich man she thought he was and hilarity ensues (check the scene with Clyde riding on top of Adina's car in only his jockey underwear). Meanwhile against Clyde and Adina's wishes, Brandy and Montel fall in love and are truly happy. Clyde and Adina conspire to break up their friends's happy relationship, accusing the twosome of being "Sprung". Overall this is a very sweet romance and it also very funny. I've worn out my video and recently purchased this on DVD and I"m quite happy I did and I think you should get it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love this movie
This is a cute romantic comedy, that will leave you laughing, and laughing some more. You have Adina, Clyde, Montell and Brandy. Adina and Brandy are friends who meet Clyde and Montell (who are also friends) at a party. Adina is the typical "you have to have serious money to date me" type of attitude. The more money a guy has, the better your chance of dating her. Clyde thinks he is a player, but he is actually a faker. He has keys to a Porsche that does not belong to him, and he goes to banks to get bank slips that don't belong to him with high bank balances to show he has money. Adina gets a peek at one of his bank slips gets woozy, and Clyde offers to take her home. When Adina finds out later that Clyde is not "clocking major figures" she take his car, and he chases her down in a hilarious scene. After all of that turns out Brandy and Montell date, and Clyde and Adina can't have that!!! They set out to ruin the relationship, and chaos ensues. This movie is one of my favorites. If you are the type of person who likes extras you get a Featurette, Cast and Crew information and a trailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A different kind of movie.
An unusual romantic comedy. If you really look at the plot, the movie could have been written for individuals of any culture. I enjoyed how they showed that African Americans not only come in diffrent hues, but different personality/cultural traites. Not all of us who love out culture are hip to the latest slang or want to be. Also, there was not nudity, guns, or violence(a very nice change from the norm).
One of Tisha campbells better roles, the ensemble had great chemistry. I especially enjoyed the surprize ending.

1-0 out of 5 stars Girl... you know you want deeeez nutz
The title of my review says it all... one of the all-time classic lines in the history of cinema is in this movie... "Girl, you know you want deez nutz."

2-0 out of 5 stars It had such potential
Okay, so it wasn't exactly great, but I didn't hate it. Tisha campbell is pretty much playing that same "Gina" role only instead of a wise-cracking homeboy she is this time paired with an artsy type dude. This movie is about the two trying to make love work while their two jealous, and trifling, pals plot to split them up. And that Leonard Maltin review is dead wrong because this movie is NOT about their friends trying to plan a wedding. There is a wedding scene, but that is at the end of the movie and was more of a surprise ending than the central theme.

Cundieff is certainly sincere in his role, but his character was uneven. His turns at trying to be hip and using slang fell flat. But contrasted with the horrible stereotypical performances of Parker and Torrey, I'd say that Cundieff was a welcome respite.

On the whole this movie is worth renting if you just want something very light hearted and silly. ... Read more
