On regular television, punctuated by frenetic commercials, the leisurely pace of the horror miniseries Rose Red probably felt grueling; but on its own terms, the effect is like settling into a long book full of detail--a book not unlike those of Stephen King, who wrote the script. The story (about a researcher into the paranormal who takes a team of psychics into a haunted house) recycles themes that King has used before--a telekinetic girl, a house with its own consciousness--but for his fans, the familiarity is probably comfortable and even enjoyable. The cast (including Nancy Travis, Julian Sands, and Melanie Lynsky from Heavenly Creatures) give committed performances, and the special effects are television-grade but used pretty well. Most of it doesn't make much sense, but at its best Rose Red is absurd and creepy at the same time. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Some Houses Are Born Bad"
Rose Red was N Xcellent piece of work by the master of horror, Stephen King. When I found about the movie's premier last year, U would not believe how Xcited I was 2 C it. It was worth getting Xcited over. The special effects R amazing and the ghost make-up is stunningly scary. In fact, the whole story-line was incredibly horrifying.

Nancy Travis was absolutely fantastic in her role of Joyce Reardon. Matt Keeslar was pretty good in his role of Steven Rimbaeur, only because his acting was a little dry. Matt Ross was really agitating in his role of the Post Cognitive, Emery Waterman. I thought that Julian Sands was awesome in the role of telepathic Nick Hardaway. Kimberly J. Brown was really wonderful as the autistic, yet telekentic Annie Wheaton. Judith Ivey (one of my favorite actors inth film) was incredible in role of the automatic writer, Cathy.

If N E body is looking 4 a good Stephen King horror flick, check out Rose Red. It's a real Scream.

3-0 out of 5 stars Stephen Kings Haunted Abode.
The Chilling Tale of Dr. Joyce Reardon an obsessed psychology professor who commissions a team of psychics and a gifted 15 year old autsitic girl, Annie Wheaten, to literally wake up a supposedly dormant haunted mansion.....ROSE RED. Thier efforts unleash a myriad of spirites and uncover horrifying secrets of the generations whom have lived and died there.
This movie has lots of extras from a complete abc documentary, to design artwork, to a diary, a making of documentary, and production commentary. Dolby Digital 5.1
Not the best stephen King Movie.....yet not the worst.

1-0 out of 5 stars was expecting MUCH better
If you're looking for a good haunted house movie, pass this one up. Its overly long and totally disjointed. The obvious places for commercial breaks don't help. None of the characters are sympathetic in any way. And the ending is neither satisfying nor cathartic. It just ends.

Again, if you want a GOOD haunted house movie, watch 'The Haunting' (1963) with Julie Harris or 'The Legend of Hell House' with Roddy McDowall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie...Stephen King strikes again!
Well, Stephen King did an absolutely fantastic job writing this story for the production of this movie. Even though the movie is 4 hours long, the movie didn't bore me for one second. I really enjoyed this, especially Annie, the little autistic girl. I thought she was a very good touch to the story line. I would recommend this movie to anyone who's out for a good thrill.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scared the s**t outta me!
I thought I had seen so many horror movies that I had desensitised myself to fear and shock. I can honestly count on a single hand the number of movies that have actually frightened me, and none have done it as thoroughly as Rose Red. Let's face it, the storyline is flimsy, and the acting is atrocious but it has such a powerful aura of suspense that even a shot of trees seems scary. For four hours I sat sweating and white-knuckled, gripping my seat. Don't think I could do it again but it was worth it. ... Read more

Valley Girl is, like--Omigod!--one of the most "tubular" teen comedies of the early 1980s. This movie launched Nicolas Cage's career, and it's easy to see why: Following his tiny role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Cage is perfectly cast as a Hollywood punk who instantly falls for Julie (the irresistible Deborah Foreman), a San Fernando "Valley Girl"--a brighter variant of the stereotype immortalized in Moon Unit Zappa's 1982 novelty song--who must choose between wild-boy Nic and her preening jock boyfriend (Mark Bowen). Fortunately, Julie knows what's right for her (even if her "Val" friends don't), and in refreshing defiance of teen-flick tradition, her post-hippie parents (Frederic Forrest, Colleen Camp) are supportively cool. With sincere humor, a lively soundtrack of '80s hits, and a time-capsule cruise of Hollywood landmarks, Valley Girl is both timeless and nostalgic, owing much of its lasting appeal to Martha Coolidge's sensitive direction. Fer sure, y'know, it definitely won't gag you with a spoon. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Cool Extras
"Valley Girl" is one of my all time favorite movies and it has now come to DVD. This DVD edition of "Valley Girl" is worth the wait. The film includes a lot of neat extras like a featurette named "Valley Girl-20 Years Later." The featurette includes new video commentary from all of the cast members-except the star Deborah Foreman who is missing. In addition to the featurette, the DVD also includes 80's trivia, a site down talk with the director and Nicholas Cage, and a segment about "The Music from Valley Girl." The film itself was restored well. This is a fun movie that will take you back to the 80's and your high school days. It is definetly something that you should add to your DVD collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best 80's Teen Film Bar None!
Valley Girl is the greatest of the 1980's Teen films, and is second to none. John Hughes wishes he could have made a film this accurate, this genuine, and this sincere!
This movie is as much 80's as Easy Rider was 60's. It defined the times is what it did.
As silly as it sounds, Valley Girl is actually a very good film. It's put together extremely well, and is original, fresh, and personal all at the same time! They simply do not make teen films of this calibre anymore.
This DVD release is long overdue, but well worth the wait! There are a score of fabulous extras, a commentary track with the director, conversations between the director and Nicolas Cage today, two music videos and much much more!
The picture is high-quality with a tad bit of grain, but the sound is 5.1 surround, and is in widescreen. Valley Girl has never looked or sounded better.
If you only ever see one 80's Teen film, Valley Girl should be the one, and probably the only one you'd ever need to own.

1-0 out of 5 stars Grotty to the Max
I'm writing a novel about young people and heard "Valley Girl" was the classic of its type. Made in 1983 with Nick Gage and Deb Foreman, I had hopes that the silly "Valley Talk" would entertain. I was wrong. This is a trite soft-porn movie. If your kid watches this movie, they'll be scarred for life. I recommend this one for desperate men that dig Internet teen-porn. Cage is sort-of-Elvis like as a bad-boy punk. He meets non-grody to the max Deb Foreman and a good girl-bad boy crush begins. The beach scene has bikinis and young bods, but then the camera shows teenager Cage in swim trunks. My gal and I started laughing. Cage has a V-shaped bush of hair on his upper chest that looks like it was from the Planet of the Apes wardrobe room. Notice that all actors shave their chest these days, but I guess body hair was in in 83. Thank goodness for director John Hughes. Later in the 80's, he showed Hollywood how to give real character and motivation to young people. Rent "Pretty in Pink" and pass on "Valley Girls."

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film of the 80's
I will not go into a long spiel about what this film is about since many have already chosen to do so (and I know that is what a review is somewhat about), however I do not want to ruin the plot for anyone. I will say that as a gal who grew up in the 80's, this is one of my FAVORITE 80's films. Even today if I were to watch it, it would take me back to my high school years...the cool tunes, the freaky styles (well, we saw ourselves as "cool" back then), and the lingo, ahhh the lingo. I will add this to my DVD collection so someday when my children are older (now 5 and 3), they can watch it and perhaps get a kick out of the 80's genre of when their mom grew up.

5-0 out of 5 stars 1 of My Favorite Films / 80's Classic
Modern day Romeo & Juliet cliche plot boy from the wrong side of the tracks falls for the preppy girl who's friends don't approve. But it's done with such style and a different twist in this 80's classic. Nic Cage's 1st major role as Randy a punk rocker from West Hollywood whos falls head over heels for a preppy valley girl Julie from Southern Cali. I was basically obsessed with Nic Cage's character ( Randy) in this movie for a while being into the punk scene. Everything about this film is so defining of the 80's when he brings her to the punk club and The Plimsouls are playing " A Million Miles Away" and he looks at her and says real quick when can I see you again and then turns his head quick back away. You can just see right there how much he was into her. At the end is amazing when there at the prom and Randy & Fred his best friend crash the prom when "Johnny are you queer" by Josie Cotton is playing and Randy & Julie hop in the limo and ride of into the night Modern English's classic " Melt with you" comes on. Did I mention what a great soundtrack this movie has every song is perfect for the scenes. One of the best 80's films of all time and & in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Essential to collection for anyone who grew up in the 80's cinema. Story of opposites attracting and following there own path together regardless of what other people think. I own the special edition DVD and a must see movie. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Inhumanoids deserves better than this!
I love this show, it's easily one of my all-time favorites of the 80's. - So why two stars? Because of Rhino's crap treatment of it! They get one star for it simply BEING Ihumanoids, and an additional star for the episodes being in order. As for the rest, read on....

Just a few points - This is easily one of the more under-rated 80's cartoons out there, and really deserves better treatment. How about a Complete Series set? You could easily squeeze all 13 episodes on 2 DVDs (or, preferably, 3 to maximize picture quality).

Think of this series as "Cthulu Lite," with Lovecraft-esque creatures bent on world domination, the only thing standing in their way being a small group of environmental explorers. Not as cheesy as it sounds, Inhumanoids boasted some of the best one-liners (genuinely FUNNY one-liners, not the typical 80's cheese) and genuine peril for its characters than any series of the period. Plus the series was actually a continuing saga, with the events of each episode affecting the next. If you watch them out of sequence, you'd be completely lost as to what was going on. At least I'm glad to see Rhino was releasing the episodes in their proper order, something the previous 80's video release didn't.

I've never seen any official word on the subject, but it would not surprise me in the least if one of the reasons the show was pulled (aside from low ratings and poor toy sales) back in 1986 was for excessively violent content. I can easily believe parents forbidding their young ones to watch this show. Unfortunately for the curious, the most violent episodes are the final 4, which have yet to be officially released in any format (aside from the original TV broadcasts, of course). All Rhino has succeeded in doing is re-releasing all of the episodes which have been available for the past 17 years in one video release or another, with the elusive final 4 still being unseen outside of fan bootleg videos. This may partially explain the poor sales - most people HAVE the episode they've released already, and want the last 4 episodes more than anything else! Release THOSE episodes, and maybe you'll get more people buying all 3 volumes as a set! Myself, I held off because I wanted to get the whole set. I've got all the old video releases, and they're in great shape, so I saw no reason to re-purchase the same episode in a different format, unless the quality was significantly better (which it doesn't seem to be - if anything, the quality is WORSE than my old VHS tapes) and if they released the final 4 episodes, thus allowing me to finally replace my old TV recording. But it looks like I'll be holding on to that TV recording a while longer...

Now, a clarification - I don't know why people are thinking the series had animated closing credits, it didn't. I still HAVE my old TV tapes I recorded back when the show was originally on, and I can honestly say, with the proof of the original broadcasts themselves, that the closing credits NEVER had animation, they were always the still frames. I remember thinking at the time how odd it was, since all of Sunbow's other shows had animated closing credits. Just wanted to clear this up, clearly some of you are mis-remembering this detail.

As for the opening theme, yes the original version is considerably different than the version presented here. The music and animation is the same, but there is some character and narrator dialogue that accompanies the main song. I don't know why this version of the opening isn't on these DVDs. The original version makes for a far more exciting intro than the watered-down alternate version presented here. The version on Rhino's DVDs is the same intro sequence that was used on Malofilm's (Canadian) VHS release of the pilot movie in 1995. It seems that the only official videos that have the original openings are the old Hi-Tops videos releases in 1986-87, and good luck finding those.

Now, the angry rant - If Rhino was going to buy up the rights to all of Sunbow's old shows, the least they could have done is PROPER releases of them. Inhumanoids deserves far better treatment than it has received with this DVD set. In this day and age of Season sets, there is no longer any acceptable excuse for releasing volumes of a handful of episodes of an already short-lived series! If it's a 13 episodes series, just release a boxed set of all 13, for cryin' out loud! Rhino screwed up the sound (and editing in some episodes) in ALL the Transformers sets, they completely mucked this series up, what's next? Why bother getting the rights to all these great old shows if they were just going to -

A) Dole them out a handful of episodes at a time,

B) Not even bother to complete the set, as in this case, and

C) muck about with the original audio/video in an effort to "improve" upon the originals? (Such as the remixed sound and re-edited episodes in the TF sets)

Just leave the dang things ALONE, and give the fans what they WANT! Or hand the rights over to someone who actually cares about delivering a quality product to the real fans! Do they actually think they're marketing to KIDS with these shows? Nonsense! Today's generation (overall) could care less about some 20 year old cartoons. It's ADULTS who are buying these sets, ADULTS who grew up with the shows and want to relive those great old memories, and therefore ADULTS to whom they should be aimed.

Hopefully someone at Rhino will read this and give the subject some thought. Although I guess placing this review in one of their lowest-selling titles may not do much for the chances of it being seen...sigh...

To sum up - Do Inhumanoids properly. Stop messing with the sound and video in these sets. Be aware of who is buying these sets and market accordingly, since it is most definately NOT the current generation of kiddies.

Oh, and if anyone is looking for the last 4 episodes, I'll happily dub them for you since Rhino doesn't seem to care two hoots about this show anyway...

4-0 out of 5 stars One More Dvd Rhino! C'mon!
Now I realize that the first Dvd's in this series were not of the absolute best quality, but at least Rhino should put out the final volume! I mean seriously, there are only a few more episodes left in this series and the final episode of this DVD introduced the newest Inhumanoid. So what is the hold up? Why has the final volume not been made available? This is cruel and unusual punishment, to only be able to purchase the first part of a series. Come on Rhino, bring this last volume out for the fans. After that, it would be great if we were treated to some of the more obscure cartoons of the times, such as Visionaries, Spiral Zone, and one of my favorites: Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.

P.S. The only complaint I have with the Inhumanoids dvds was the super low volume intro music. I remember it being far louder back in the day. If/when the last dvd is brought out, it would be great if that were corrected.

3-0 out of 5 stars What happened?
This disc looks like Rhino made the first disc all nice and good. Then, after it sold well quickly churned out this ont the market. The video quality is no where near as good as the original. the cover art is virtually the same. It has video error lines and colour faults in the picture, the entire picture looks soft. The intro still has the totally stiffled music, the credits are still the Still frame credits and not the animated ones that the original series had. Also away from the shoddy making of the DVD the writing is quite bad compaired to the original disc. You can see that they had no-where to go for ideas, no wonder it only lasted 13 episodes(including the 5 on the original disc). I recommend the first disc to everyone but this disc only to completests as it has less episodes, of a lower standard of production in worse quality for the same price.
I will probably still be buying the third disc if they make one simply as a completest, and in the hope they can turn it around.

4-0 out of 5 stars MORE ! MORE ! MORE ! ;:-)
I received the DVD 3 days ago. GREAT disc. The image quality was so-so but that is to be expected of an old SUNBOW cartoon from the eighties. (Prints deteriorate). My only complaint: no toy commercials. 4 stars all in all. Please, people BUY it so Rhino will start releasing G.I. Joe, Jem and Visionaries on DVD as well. Hopefully as COMPLETE DVD BOX SETS !!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great retro cartoons! Go Rhino Go!
Cheers to Rhino Video for releasing more of these 1980's classics on DVD, but theres only 4 episodes on the disk? Whats up with that? Considering the lack of extras, you could have fit up to 6 episodes on there. Geesh!

That being said, the disc itself is cool, good intro menu, and the scene-selection menus are cool too. The episodes are also good choices.

All in all, much better than the first Inhumanoids DVD (which had 5 episodes!). Hopefully, Rhino will release more! ... Read more

Description

From Marvel/Claster, the team behind Transformers and G.I. Joe, comes another action-packed wonder, INHUMANOIDS, which debuted on television in 1986.Long ago, the Inhumanoids (Metlar, Tendril and D'Compose) were defeated by the Mutores (Granites, Redwoods and Magnakor), who imprisoned the Inhumanoids under the Earth's crust until unsuspecting humans dug them up, unleashing their evil. Now, a team of scientists (Armstrong, Bright, Auger and Liquidator) called Earth Corps teams up with the Mutores to take on the Inhumanoids and stop their plans to destroy the planet.

Part 1:A preserved dinosaur is discovered in the Big Sur National Forest. The dinosaur is Tendril, a hideous creature buried during ancient times who unleashes his fury with his ally D'Compose. It is up to the Earth Corps team to stop the Inhumanoids. The team hopes to prevent the Inhumanoids from releasing the evil tyrant Metlar.

Part 2:The Earth Corps manage to subdue Tendril, but only for a short while. The Corps agree to an alliance with Sandra Shore, who will fund their efforts, but only with some underlying conditions. With the looming threat of Metlar's release, the newly formed Earth Corps go into battle and three members of the team are taken hostage by the creature.

Part 3: The members of the Earth Corps retreat into the ruins of Granite City after being nearly destroyed by the Inhumanoids. While in the ruins, the Corps meets Granok, leader of the Granites. He informs them of Blackthorne^Rs attempt to control Metlar. The Corps must split into three teams to stop the Inhumanoids from destroying the Earth and it will take every ounce of their skill to stop the evil that lies within.

Part 4: In order for Metlar to make the Inhumanoids even stronger, D^RCompose steals a raw energy source. The battle between good and evil rages on as Armstrong and the granites score a major victory when the decomposed Sandra is exposed to sunlight and transformed back to her beautiful self.

Part 5: Metlar and the Inhumanoids locate the primal energy source at a Soviet weapons depot and destroy the base and its members. In the process, they steal enough firepower to obliterate the earth.Blackthorne and Senator Masterson must approach the Corps to re-unite forces with the intention of defeating the Inhumanoids.

5-0 out of 5 stars The long awaited return of the Inhumanoids
Probably my favorite cartoon ever, and the first real emergence of cartoon horror I can remember. The Inhumanoids themselves, imprisoned in the bowels of the earth, were stark, Lovecraftian monstrosities both in their ancient appetites and titan proportions. D' Compose was a rotten, gangling zombie with the ability to spread undeath by touch. Tendril was a crawling, devouring horror with the tentacled maw of Cthulhu. Metlar was the alpha male demon, hellish king of his elder minions. There was a sense of smallness and desperation to the humans that confronted the monsters, though they were aided by a rival race, again Lovecraftian, that strove to return the Inhumanoids to their prison. Later, we saw even darker twists of the story, such as the arrival of Nightcrawler, undead spawn of D' Compose, or even the emergence of another Inhumanoid, a gelatinous cyclops with an appetite for anything and everything. There's no telling where the show might have gone, if it had continued. But, I guess in those days the show was just squeezing past the censors, so as much as it irritated me it didn't really surprise me when the show got canned. The great ones are all usually cut off in their prime. Nothing makes me happier than to see the show now resurrected, as if by the twisted claw of D' Compose himself. The fact that the Inhumanoids have returned via DVD is better still. Two Big thumbs up to the show, and two thumbs up to the boys at Rhino too.

2-0 out of 5 stars Was my childhood really this sad?
Taking another voyage back to the womb, I decided to check out one of the more memorable 'toon series of my youth, 'The InHumanoids'. I recall a few kinda graphic scenes from some later eppies (sadly, none of which appears in this DVD) that burned this show into my memories of those 80s kidvid glory days. And after viewing 'InHumanoids' again for the first time in over a decade, I came to the realization that I was easily entertained as a kid, 'cause the years that've gone by haven't been too kind to this series. The storyline's pace is too fast and somewhat disjointed- there were some places that need a link or bridge, but instead just cuts right to the next thing. Alla sudden, the heroes are in one place, then another, then split up, with only some passing banter explaining what's going down. You've got all of these things going on, but there's really not enough time to explain it all in the five shows that make it up. Of course, when you're ten years old, it's not like you care too much about the story-- you're just killin' the time between 'Yogi Bear & Pals' and whatever other horrid Hanna-Barbera monstrosity awaits after this show is over with!

And let's not forget a running list of those infamous cartoon cliches that pop up, such as corny back-and-forth banter between the heroes, the 'G.I. Joe' method of not killing pilots by havin' them parachute out right before the aircraft explodes, and other silliness. Throw in the less-than-subtle hint (to the 'rents, anyway) that the show is yet another glorified toy ad (this was produced by the guys who put out 'G.I. Joe' & 'Transformers', after all), and you've got your basic 80s action-adventure 'toon show. I only wish the animation quality was as good as those other two series. Put the all-too-quick pace and the less-than-stellar moving cels together, and you've got one of 'toondom's most pathetic rush-jobs!

Still, even with all of its ridiculous moments and lapses in quality, 'InHumanoids' does have a certain degree of that lovable cartoon cheesiness to it. Not nearly to the extent of its far-more-popular Hasbro-manufactured brethren, mind you. But hey, you can't have everything! And it'll always remain a sentimental bit of nostalgia from my youth, no matter how hard I try to forget!

4-0 out of 5 stars Rhino puts together an adequate DVD..
This DVD is good enough I guess, it is the first 5 episodes as they were first broadcast with all the recaps and all that. One thing that bugged me right from the start(litterally) was that the intro was changed. The "Inhumanoids" track was much too loud and dominating, the background music was almost inaudible & there was another voice track missing entirely, I just played my copy of the movie to compare. The quality of the picture and sound is probably the best you could expect and there probably isn't a better source. The packaging: Myself I would have preferred some of the original artwork used to promote Inhumanoids rather than the new artwork on the cover. Also one last note on the content of the disc, I've only seen the abridged version before so I never knew how much it goes back on itself, you will get to a break then when it comes back from the brack they pretty much re-enact the last minute or more of action, with different animation and sound, strange.(It's as if they didn't have enough story to stretch over 5 episodes) A note on the title on here, I don't know why they call is Parts 1 & 2 as it's parts 1-5 and the other DVD is the first 4 episodes of the series that came after this mini series, then there is just 4 episodes left after that so the thought of them releasing the whole series (These 5 & 8 More Episodes) is not an unlikely one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Retro Cartoon
This is one of the few cartoons I watched in my youth that still has any sort of value today. Others like He-Man, Thundercats (I am so ashamed I watched that, snarf, snarf), and Silverhawks are pure kiddy fair. Truly, Inhumanoids was meant for more mature audiences. Scenes of death, destruction, and monster cannibalism made up the roughly dozen episodes made. I recorded a large majority of them back in 1986, but I am still glad that Rhino has decided to issue Inhumanoids on DVD. After all, the VHS is starting too look kinda bad, except for all those killer 80s toy commercials!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The inhumanoids was the greatest of all 1980's cartoons!
This series was absolutely amazing. It had a strong story and fresh characters...some quite frightening. It is the story of creatures that have lived on the earth long before the time of man. Through mankinds folly, we unleash some of the worst of them on the earth. Their first move is, of course, to take back what is theirs... It is a fun series, with mutants, heroes, villains, walking dead, tree and stone folk... Check it out if you can. I have been hunting for the last 8 to 10 years for these cartoons and here they are...ON DVD!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful portrayel of what its like to get in too deep..
the black circle boys was a great movie about what i would call social misfits (most people are right.. i wouldn't really consider them very gothic) and their world of drugs, satan, "brotherhood", and death. shane, kyle, mun, and rory, (and chloe) make up this movie of oddities.. the story of kyle, the all-american swimmer gone satanist, (against his wishes may i add), and the story of shane, (psychotic childhood, crazy father) are somehow understandable. and although the drug dealer (donnie wahlberg?!) is pretty much the only comedic sense to the film (from new kids to satan?) i found this movie to be very well acted, well written, well produced, and the storyline was wicked. the ending was a bit disapointing.. in a way where you want to see more.. what happened to certain charachers(charachter) etc. but i have added this movie to my list of favorites.. its actually a good life lesson of what its like to get in too deep.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sundance Triumph
Well, this movie has quickly become one of the favorites and most recommended titles in my library (I own it on VHS and DVD). First off, the acting is superb! Eric Mabius' portrayal of the gothic Shane Carver is very believable and well done. It was a surprise to me that this movie had not made a bigger impact in the movie scene. Although movies such as 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Scream' are hailed as great horror movies, they PALE in comparison with 'The Black Circle Boys'. This movie discards the teen-idol-littered plots and instead builds on a strong and realistic story. Fans of the gothic subculture will especially enjoy this movie due to its theme and imagery. But if youre looking for a no nonsense movie and a time well spent, then I must advise you to buy this title...especially since amazon.com is the only place I have found that sells this title on DVD.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up
In my opinion this movie is exactly what you would expect it to be. Sure it is vulgar, sure there are a lot of explicits throughout the movie and much drug use, but it is what it is. Scott's charachter is coming to grips with his friends death and looking to fit in and rebel where ever he can. It is a dark movie not suited for children, but if this is the type of movie that you enjoy and go into it knowing that it is dark, vulgar and morbid, and that is what you want to see at the moment then you get what you rented. No this is not what teens are like, nor is TX Chainsaw real either, the point is just sit back and either enjoy it or hate it, but I give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is what it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars POINTLESS
Eric Maibus and Scott Bairstow have become fine young actors, and even their adequate performances cannot save this dismal, pointless, lurid and sadistic movie. Dee Wallace Stone should be ashamed for participating. Maibus plays the hypnotic leader of a teenage devil cult, with no conscience, morals, or regard for anyone but himself; Bairstow plays the usual "misunderstood" teen who looks to the group for acceptance. The script is laden with offensive four letter words in every other sentence; enough is enough. If this is the way teens talk, then steer me clear, folks. There is no heart or soul in this movie, and no reason to rent or buy. NO STARS. C'MON AMAZON, WHEN YOU GONNA GIVE US THE 0 STARS OPTIONS???

4-0 out of 5 stars shattering performance by Mabius
Scott Bairstow(Wild America, New Best Friend) and his parents move to a new town, he's enrolled into a new school, its where he meets a girl and the girl tells him about the Black Circle Boys, lead by Eric Mabius(Resident Evil, The Crow: Salvation), and other members include a fat brainwhacked kid, Donnie Wahlberg(Dreamcatcher, Southie), Wahlberg seems like a pervert..really and a skinny and whimpy Chad Lindberg(October Sky, The Fast and The Furious)..they include Bairstow into their little circle..party, rock on and do rituals..one involving a cat. Mabius goes really crazy and his performance is the glue that holds this movie together...very raw and brutal...a good movie ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Old School Slasher
Welcome back to the early eighties as "Lover's Lane" revisits the time when low budget slashers were all the rage. The film tells the story of a deranged, hook-handed maniac who escapes the asylum on the anniversary of his previous massacre to kill again. Intro the whacky teens who decide to party near the scene of the original massacre and you can guess the rest. "Lover's Lane" is an enjoyable romp into familiar horror territory and boasts good performances by the young cast as well as an appearance by Richard Sanders from WKRP fame. The film is not high on bloody gore but there are plenty of victims and chase style suspense sequences to ensure a fun time will be had by all. Gotta like that out of control ending as well. The only complaint is that the DVD's lone extra is the theatical trailer, a director commentary would have been a welcome addition. In all, "Lover's Lane" should be of interest to fans of eighties slashers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Sex
Fast pacing and fine acting make this low budget version of the classic campfire tale of "the Hook" really worth a look. What appears to be a straight forward story of hormonally charged teenagers attacked by a maniac at their make out spot is actually a richly textured morality tale riddled with undertones of incest, betrayal and infidelity. The subtle allusions to TV and movie classics of the past are fun to look for and hard to spot. Like a lot of films in this genre, half the fun is guessing who the killer is and this film really throws in several great twists. Lovers Lane was also instrumental in making the careers of several of the actors involved, like Anna Faris who went on to star in "Scary Movie I & II", as well as Billy O'Sullivan who was then cast in "Wakin Up In Reno" with Billy Bob Thornton and Charlize Theron. There's also some great music including a track by rising R&B singer Colin Peacock. So what if it doesn't have some of the glossy effects of Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer - this movie makes up for it on guts and raw energy. Definitely something that should be on a collectors shelves if for no other reason that to see the "first" movie of some future stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Way Too Funny for TV
WKRP in Cincinnati was one of the (if not "the") most side-splittingly funny sitcoms of the late 70's/early 80's.The ensemble cast was custom-tailored to its various roles, and the dialogue was priceless.Invariably, the well-written scripts often made you think about larger issues in life (even when you disagreed with the writers' point of view) while making you laugh your brains out.Unlike so many shows of that era, you didn't need to be (a) smoking weed or (b) snorting coke or (c) otherwise brain-dead to "get" the humor.Truly a classic, beautifully done TV.Do everyone a favor.Put it on DVD.It was an "all-timer."

5-0 out of 5 stars As God is my witness...
"As God is my witness...I thought turkeys could fly."
That is from the most popular episode of this hilarious series called "Turkeys Away".It was thier Thanksgiving themed episode which should be aired traditionally every Thanksgiving!Sadly the station manager didn't realize his free turkey give-away from a helicopter at a shopping center would end with such "carnage".Poor Les Nesman was left to report the live feed on air.

As God is my witness, I thought this would be out on DVD by now!!

5-0 out of 5 stars INFINITY STARS!!!!
C'MON, GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!!! JOHNNY FEVER ZONING OUT TO THE SOUND OF DOGS BARKING ON THE AIR, HERB AND HIS SLEAZY USED CAR SALESMAN SUITS, LES NESMAN'S BROADCAST OF THE TURKEY TRAGEDY, MR. CARLSON'S TOY COLLECTION, SCUM OF THE EARTH, AND PHONE COPS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Release Senior Rod-wi-geez, please!
I recently was at the video rental shop here, which has a huge section of TV series to rent.Every time I go down this isle, I have to sigh a bit, as WKRP isn't there, among the really really lame air headed stuff they do have.Every week I check several sites online, including amazon to see if its release is pending.I rarely watch network TV, but being a huge music fan, I'll always remember this series fondly.I even have a WKRP t-shirt that I wear from time to time.I always get comments about that.Like, "oh yeah, Lonnie Anderson, I remember that!"But despite us male fans admiration, she was not the main reason we watched.Who didn't want to be like Johnny Fever or Venus Flytrap, and work in a rock n' roll radio station?Whatever, it's just that this series had so many memorable moments, that lifted it above the usual 70's drivel of cop shows and more cop shows.I've got one rule of thumb, if it's memorable, it's probably great. So get the liscensing business straightened out, 20th Century Fox, and give us back our 'KRP!!!(I'll buy it all...)

5-0 out of 5 stars WKRP the best
I can't understand why the best sit com ever, WKRP, hasn't come out on DVD yet and some of the worst junk ever already has. This is a classic comedy and should have been on for 10 years if you go by what "Friends" or "Seinfeld" did. Please, get this great show out there so we can laugh again. ... Read more
