4-0 out of 5 stars Twice watched flick
Nice flick, and yes, reminicent of Corman in a slightly more straightforward way. Not only does it lack Corman's dreamy camerawork, but the picture also seems by bits to be suffering from too much bright lighting, where there should be shadows and mid-tones. The film is well presented, the copy is very good, with probably the best picture / sound quality available. Definitely not terryfying to modern viewer, but worth buying, if you have all the Corman films, and still want more!

5-0 out of 5 stars On the original movie.
Scoff all you want to about whether or not this movie is scary by todays terms. I haven't see the DVD but I saw the original movie back in 1963 as a six year old. First movie I think I ever saw in a theater and it gave me nightmares for YEARS. I have searched for this movie for years in ANY format to see (as an adult) what so terrified me in my youth. After 40 years I have finally found it available in a format I can purchase and view - and have just ordered it. After a long search, glad I finally found it.

3-0 out of 5 stars worth watching
The movie suffers ironically from the "House of Green Gables", the most well known story in the movie. It dragged along, even Beverly Garland and Vincent Price's charisma couldn't hold the story together and that's saying a lot.
But I do recommend it. The first two stories were imaginative and well done.

3-0 out of 5 stars THREE TIMES THE PRICE
While all of these tales might have been mildly scary back in 1963, the only saving grace for them these days is the fact that all three star Vincent Price. I applaud MGM's Midnite Movies for bringing us more of Price's work on DVD. While I consider this film weaker than a Corman flick, I still had to add it to my collection on the strength of it's star. Two thumbs up (and 3 stars) to Vincent Price.

2-0 out of 5 stars Terror Times Three.
This is an obvious attempt by another filmmaker to copy the success of the Roger Corman/American International/Edgar Allan Poe tales starring Vincent Price. They even went so far as to cast Price in the lead role. The anthology of three tales based on the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne is worth viewing, but you have to be a determined collector of gothic horror flicks to take an interest in this one. The movie suffers in comparison with the Poe product. Instead of Corman's creepy camp worthy of multiple viewing, we have straight-faced tales of the supernatural. The first story, "Dr. Heidigger's Experiment" fares the best. Price and Sebastian Cabot discover the secret of rejuvenation and resurrect Cabot's love of 38 years ago. Instead of a dusty skeleton in a grungy gown, we now have a dishy blonde in a plunging negligee. Combined with the color photography and period detail, the mood here begins to resemble the heaving bosoms of Hammer. "Rappacini's Daughter" plods along, slow paced and poisonous, with its tragic romance. "The House of Seven Gables" tries to capture the mood of the classic novel, but it only achieves modest results before it collapses on itself. The supernatural overtone of the stories is subdued. Vincent Price grimaces and tries to look tragically sorrowful. The no frills Midnite Movies edition of the DVD includes the original trailer, but no bonus extras. Proceed at your own risk. ;-) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Warm fuzzies
This holiday special is like a cup of hot cocoa for my soul. I don't know why- I never even saw this movie when I was growing up, but discovered it in college when the Family Channel (pre-ABC) aired it during their 25 Days of Christmas. I fell in love with it though, and it's been a Christmas staple in my house ever since then. My tape is almost worn out as I've watched it every year now for almost ten years. My three-year-old daughter and I would put this tape in almost every night this Christmas season and fall asleep to it, not because it's boring, but because it is sooooo soothing! I have to agree with what one other reviewer said, that is reminds me of what Christmas meant to me as a young child. Watching this movie is always a treat for my inner child, and my actual child loves it too- something wonderful we can share together! My husband thinks we're both crazy, though. That "70's" quality only registers for him as tacky, tacky, tacky. Yes, it's tacky. But it sure does give me the warm fuzzies!

Two funny "bloopers" I noticed in the movie:
1. The tree changes size, shape, and garland colors several times.
2. Marshmallows is misspelled "Marshmellows" in a few frames, and spelled correctly in others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Christmas Special
This is one of my all time favorite christmas movies. I had no idea why they stopped airing it, but kids everywhere are missing out. This movie made such a lasting impression on me that my husband and I named our dog Nakomi because I remembered the character.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Was Truly the Most HEART-WARMING ANIMATED STORY EVER
I loved 'Santa and the Three Bears'. I heard the reason they stopped airing this wonderful story was the ACLU deemed it a religious cartoon. Does the AC stand for 'Anti-Christ'? I've never heard of something so evil.

Yeah, pull "Santa and the Three Bears', but keep the violent, insidious movies that those boneheads from the ACLU love and worship.

5-0 out of 5 stars Santa & the Three Bears
This is my absolute favorite Christmas program. Until I found it on Amazon, I had spent many years searching for it since it rarely airs on television. Thanks to Amazon, it's once again a part of my holiday tradition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hanna-Barbera and Christmas!
Santa and the Three Bears is a great little holiday special for young and old alike. I don't recall seeing this as a youngster, it wasn't until I was older that I stumbled across this one holiday season and was immediately captivated by the story. Now, I saw the film on commercial television, so it wasn't until I saw the Prism video release that I saw the live-action sequences to the story.

Hal Smith and Jean Vader Pyl lend their voices to this animated classic and it's simply a fun holiday film. Find a copy, sit down with your children or grandchildren or even sneak it in the VCR when you're alone and be swept away by the endearing story.

Have you ever known a Hanna-Barbera toon that doesn't captivate you? Add to their wonderful touch for animated magic, the holiday season and you have a recipe for wonderful entertainment! ... Read more
