4-0 out of 5 stars Take a look at ourselves!
I don't get the world of fashion. It all seems like ridiculous clothes that no one would wear or could afford. Yet it generates millions of dollars a year.
But the makers of Stardom do know enough to make you laugh. This movie is terrific. It's as artsy and pretentious as the people it makes fun of. for example, all the whole movie is seen as footage taken from other filmmakers and tv shows. It mercilessly pokes fun at models, designers, rich people, and fashion.
Overall its a excellent movie with a lot of inovation, good acting, and laughs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anything with Jessica Paré in it gets 5 Stars.
Because she is so hot! And smart too.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's more to a model's life...if you just care to see
This masterpiece in disguise comes from the depths of the model industry, and seeps through the life of one model who was a former hockey star. She was discovered, and little did she know, she was going to be taken on a whirlwind of the fashion business. The main character is portrayed greatly by real life model Jessica Pare, she is taken into a world where the truth lies still and she's not exactly ready to handle it all. Instead she dives in headfirst and comes out with not only the aftermath of the business, but the scars that remains within her memories.

This great movie shows you how a model's life is like through the photographer's eyes. He captures intense and entertaining moments of this model's life and most of all, you should understand that this should be a big accomplish for this guy who is filming all of this. It is sort of like a documentary, and interview session mixed in with our views on everyday life for this model. It reminds me of Gia, which was also a movie that brought viewers on a journey through a model's life. Stardom is great to watch, it abandons you, alter your thoughts while you want what she has, but in the end, you should be happy with what you have. Stardom can be exhilarating, yet this movie leaves you an honest trace of what the business and money can do to you. Plus, it shows how many people in this world doesn't take models seriously, all they see is glitz and glamorous.

4-0 out of 5 stars LIFE IN A GOLDFISH BOWL...
Deftly directed by Denys Arcand, this is an inventive, highly stylized film about an athletic and beautiful, teenage girl who plays hockey, Tina Menzhal, and her transition to international celebrity and super model. Her life is seen exclusively through the eyes of the various media. This is a fast paced, eclectic, imaginative, and innovative look at a young celebrity and her interactions with those around her, as well as her various romantic relationships. Tina's rise to stardom is shown through a number of media montages. The viewer sees her life progress through the eyes of a camera and the media, at all times, whether it be talk shows, newscasts, a cinema verite documentary, music videos, or fashion shoots. This is a totally engrossing film, as if the viewer were taking a naughty peak into the life of another. It is voyeurism at its best. At the same time, it is a biting, funny, and sad commentary on celebrity life.

Beautiful Jessica Pare, a real life model, is wonderful as Tina, bringing a certain wide-eyed naivete to the role. Dan Ackroyd is very good as the successful restauraneur who, during a midlife crisis, sacrifices his family and his business to be with Tina, only to find himself caught in an obsession that ends badly. Robert LePage is drolly funny as the cameraman who seeks to record every moment of Tina's life. Hunky Thomas Gibson is sensational as Tina's agent, a cooly cynical master of the universe. Frank Langella is terrific as a controlling and urbane diplomat with very set ideas about the role of a wife. The rest of the supporting cast is also excellent. The film alternates between a black and white and color picture, which adds to its overall quirkiness. This Canadian film deserves kudos!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sympathy for the MTV Generation?
Having watched and enjoyed Jesus of M., I picked this up -despite- what looked like a rather cliched premise - I'm -very- glad that I did. While told in a fashion sure to appeal to ADD sufferers everywhere (...) this is a highly taut, biting inquisition on celebrity, sex and everything else irrelevant in life. This movie shows exactly how most people think about the entire modern media world.

Having a super-model playing a super-model works better than you (or do I mean I?) might think - and the supporting cast all turn in good to excellent performances. -very- worth a watch. ... Read more

This witty and skillful examination of contemporary celebrity depicts a Canadian girl's rise from teen hockey player to international supermodel, with a sharp, satirical eye at every step along the way. The rise and fall of Tina (real-life model Jessica Paré) is depicted through a cunning intersplicing of fake talk shows, local and international news programs, documentary footage, rock videos, and fashion travelogues. Yet in the process, director Denys Arcand (Jesus of Montreal, Love and Human Remains) still creates characters that--though comic and exaggerated--are sneakily real, including an obsessive restaurateur (Dan Aykroyd), a snobbish ambassador (Frank Langella), and an aloof, calculating agent (Thomas Gibson). Along with well-chosen topical references (from Bret Easton Ellis to Tiger Woods), the movie features many characters suspiciously close to real celebrities, particularly a photographer/documentarian with a marked resemblance to Bruce Weber. Stardom is smart, funny, and ultimately sympathetic. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Exciting, but misleading
I love movies on sled dogs, especially those that are a little "different" ( there are some magical type things in the movie I won't give away ). Beautiful dogs and scenery, good character portrayal of a well meaning but troubled teenager, but I think it gives a really inaccurate portrayal of Mushing and most Musher's attitudes in general. I should know, as I was a musher for five years, until illness forced me to stop. Anyway, there are things in this movie that seen to be taken verbatim from George Attla's famous book "Training and Racing Sled dogs". Not to put down Mr. Attla, who overcame major obstacles in his life including a crippling disease, but Mr. Attla is a Native American who came from a culture that out of harsh necessity ( lack of food, severe conditions ) has a very different attitude toward dogs than most of us are used to. I won't go into detail, but people living in isolated Native villages in which deprivation is still a fact of life are often harder on dogs than Mushers from "Outside". I've seen this attitude myself. These people are not cruel people, they are as hard on themselves as they are on their dogs. Mr. Attla spoke of people being expected to be able to snowshoe 50 miles a day to run traplines! He could not because of his disability, and became a professional Musher instead. This is why he needed to win- it was about survival for someone who could not run the family trapline. Toby's father's obsessional with winning at all costs is a bit abnormal when he has other choices. He is NOT a typical musher. The way he treats his dogs is NOT typical for a Musher ( especially when he complains about other people mistreating dogs and then mistreats his own). Whips are NOT a common part of training for non Native Mushers. Most races do not allow them. I've never actually seen anyone use a whip. All that whip stuff made me cringe- it's not necessary for training a good team. But whether it's Politically Correct whips have long been a part of Native Mushing culture, and traditions change slowly. Also, Mr. Attla's book, which could have been the primer for this movie, was written back in the 70's when I was mushing. For all I know, Native attitudes might have changed a lot. I have heard that Native Mushers are now concentrating on better treatment and nutrition for thier dogs as their own living conditions improve. Times change.I guess Toby's dad could be seen as a kind of time capsule of another, harsher era. He wouldn't last long today- people who beat their dogs in races today get disqualified.
Toby objects to his father's attitudes because he has a heart- he loves racing too, but he loves his dogs more. He thinks his father is a hard man , and he is. When Toby begin to emulate his father, I was really disappointed. If you train a dog with cruelty, he won't respect you, he will distrust you. The moviemakers had to invent a financial crisis to make all this obsession with winning at all cost OK. It's a mess.
It's an exciting, visually beautiful story, but I can't really recommend it to those who have not actually experienced the real thing and met real Mushers. I think it gives people the wrong idea about sled dog racing. For most of us, it's not about winning so much as just being out there with your dogs. That's an incredible experience that all the money in the world can't match.

Medabots:Robattle is one of my favorite Medabot videos(it's the only one I have:)! ) In this volume,Ikki must overcome obstacles that seem impossible( teaching Spyke to win battles,Gimme ghost, beating Koji), while also defeating the Rubberobos and going to the World Championships. If you ask me, it would be better if it had language options with subtitles, inside jokes, and clips.

Based on an old computer game, Medabots is a blatant attempt to create an animation/merchandise franchise on the Pokémon/Digimon model. In 2022 kids aspire to become "medafighters," the owners of special robots they battle in contests. The hero of the series is Ikki, who finds a rare, stolen Beetle medallion and uses it to power a ramshackle, second-hand robot, creating Metabee. But Metabee exhibits an obnoxious personality of his own: he refuses to obey Ikki and insults him. Student journalist and put-down artist Arika and mean Samantha and her gang, the Screws, complete the cast. The popular series on the Fox Kids' Network wants to be the next Pokémon, but parents need to know this series is more street-smart and caffeinated. Young viewers should tap into the smart-mouth humor that includes lines like "kiss their 'bots good-bye." Unrated: Suitable for ages 7 and up. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Medabots is Tight
When I first heard of Medabots i decided to give it a shot because it looked to me like a cool show. Boy was i right. After just watching the first episode i was hooked. I loved the whole idea of owning your very own medabot. Unlike pokemon where you have to collect like 500 different ANIMALS or Yugio where well, yugio "is bad". I thought it was cool how you could have your own bot that could communicate with you and relate with you with a personality of it's own. The transporting watches are cool too. Metabee cracks me up when ever he talks back to Ikki.

Although, Medabots is a exellent show. The rubberrobo gang is kind of a ... attempt at Team Rocket(Pokemon) and it's just kind of weird how the referee pops out of anywhere. Other than those few cons Medabots is a cool show. I bought this dvd because of the quality of this show and just the fact that it's so cool. And before you just automatically label this as a bad show give it a try. Watch it and i'm sure you'll get hooked. If not then, you still have lameass yugio, out of date pokemon, and real tired digimon to run back to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Age doesn't matter
Hello. I am a 23-year-old and I really don't care when people always say stuff like: "You're to old to be watching kiddie shows." Because most anime shows are not "kiddie shows" Sure at first glance it might seem a little childish. But deeper down the episodes are funny, with lots of hilarious comments, they have a plot (which immediately seperates this and other anime shows from the "kiddie" selection). As you watch more than you will see that the plot gets deeper. There are mysteries within mysteries in Medabots. As a side note I do not count Pokemon as an anime show because it has no plot, no humor, and the characters are all stupid. I highly recommend this sow to viewers of ANY age. 3-0 out of 5 stars The problems with the RuberRobo Gang come to a head here
Animation and story is okay for this series. I am however a pretty big fan of this line.
This is probably one of the more exciting discs in the series and appears to go just before the RoBattle Championchips in Vol. 10. What you will get out of this storywise is more about Space Medafighter X & Arcbeetle (provided it isn't obvious already) and why the RubberRobos want rare medals in the first place. As usual Metabee's attitude makes this series worth watching. As for episode order it appears to be somewhat out of whack. Vols. 1-6 cover what was shown on Fox Kids way back when. Vols. 7-9 cover 'filler' episodes that actually add to character development in the series. This is apparent when you watch for parts won from previous battles in these accompanying episodes.
Other bits of mild character development is that you will notice that Metabee has the respect of the other Medabot's he's gone up against. The last episode on the disc is fairly high on action and comes with the obligatory HUGE robot to fight. With only Metabee, Rokusho, and Arcbeetle standing against him. ... Read more
