Neve Campbell steals the show
Wild things is an easy movie to love. It tells the story of a Blue-Bay highschool teacher ( Dillon ) who is been accused for rape by two of his female students , spoiled rich kid Kelly ( Richards ) and drug-addict basketcase Suzie ( Campbell ) . Did he really do it ? The script provides more than just a yes-or-no answer during the one and a half hour the movie lasts . It includes a little more than a few plot twists and manages to constantly suprise us and turn things around. In addition to all that this is an extremelly well-made film , surely one of the sexiest movies you'll ever get the chance to see.The love scenes are simply sensational , steamy yet never cheap.All the members of the cast deliver some good perfomances but eventually it's the two girls who stand out. There's a first-class chemistry between Campbell and Richards . Campbell gives her best perfomance yet as confused freak Suzie.She totally crashes her next-girl image and prooves she's capable of playing many different kinds of characters with equally good results.It's actually weird that after that role she disappeared from the spotlight when one might have excpected that then was the time where her star would rise even higher.Denise Richards is really charming as Kelly Van Ryan too.She's one more person i hope i'll be seeing more in movies in years to come.Also great are many of the supporting roles.Bill Murrey , Daphne-Rubin Vega , Theressa Russel and Robert Wagner have all been smartly casted in roles they seem to fit perfectly with their physique . Director McNaughton knows how to handle all the above and achieves to make a movie you won't feel bored with for even a second.Let yourself free to enjoy the guilty pleasures of this film which combines crime , corruption and sexuallity so succesfully you'll have to see it twice to believe it.

This movie left me saying WOW
Wild Things is one of the most draw dropping movies I've ever seen. It had so many twists and turns I had to see it again to believe what I had seen earlier and had just seen again.

Matt Dillon plays a high school counsler at a high school in South Florida. He is well respected and loved by the students. He is really loved by his student played by Denise Richards. She likes to him to a very dangerous point. She later accuses of him of rape to the local cop played by Kevin Bacon along with another student played by Neve Campbell. Matt's character is hated by the community and he hires a lawyer played by Bill Murray to defend him. However, the movie turns into a story of sex, murder, and betrayl that like I said earlier will leave you saying "WOW" and have you watching it again.

Denise Richards is absolutely crazy in this movie. I couldn't believe this was the sweet innocent girl I had seen in Starship Troopers. Denise, Matt, and Neve shoot a soft porn in the movie when they do a three some. I couldn't believe it. I think this is the best acting Denise has done in her young carear. She is a beautiful woman and I love her to death. Most guys become a fan of her from watching this.

Kevin Bacon has a nice role in the film. It's one of the better performances of his carear. I hate his character in the movie. He plays a huge role in the film though, and Bacon liked this movie so much he helped produce it.

This is a different kind of role for Matt Dillon in the beginning of the movie. However, by the end he won't disappoint his loyal fans as he returns to the kind of character he typically plays.

I liked Wild Things. It's an insane sexual thriller. If nudity is not your thing I would not get this movie. Nevertheless if you want to see a movie with a ton and twists and turns this is it. Men will really like Denise in the movie. But like I said this movie will leave you saying "WOW" and will have you watching at again.

Keeps you guessing
...that's for sure! This movie really does keep you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you don't and are very far from the truth. It has so many twists in the plot that you really do have to pay close attention to it the first time you watch it or you will miss something vital to understanding the ending. I liked it mainly because I thought I had it figured out but when the end came I was totally wrong. I enjoy movies that are unpredictable, which this one most definitely is. The movie is cast well. It includes Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Kevin Bacon, Denise Richards, and even Bill Murrey. I think as far as casting goes the actors were prefct for the parts. Matt and Kevin play somewhat bad guys, which don't they usually. Neve Campbell plays a strange girl from the wrong side of the tracks and just nails the part. I like this movie and would recommend it to those that like a good ending and maybe some of you that want to see Neve Campbell making out with Denise Richards. Not my favorite part, but I know many guys would enjoy that scene.

Best Movie Ever!
This is one of the greatest movies ever made. Its has a mixture of fighting,cat fighting,drowning,betrayl,lieing,decieving, and just everything that makes a movie good. I would reccomend this movie to anyone.

"Wild Things" is a gloriously lurid and decadent little gem of a movie. I love movies that respect the intelligence of the audience while pandering to their base desires (most studio releases skip that first part), and "Wild Things" fits the bill perfectly.

The plot is - well, the plot is twisted, in every sense of the word. The story that seems to be unfolding ends at the halfway point of the movie - and then the real story begins. And in a technique I've never seen before, it continues through the ending credits, as director McNaughton gleefully fills in the holes.

"Wild Things" offers great, juicy turns from Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Matt Dillon, Kevin Bacon, Theresa Russell, and especially Bill Murray as a hilariously corrupt small-time lawyer. Along the way we get lots of steamy, lurid peek-a-boo sex and nudity (which is so gratuitous it inspires genuine laughter), violence, and characters motivated by nothing more than pure greed. Put 'em together in the Everglades, and you have one hot movie.

I generally don't like movies that mess with the audience by hiding information, and then springing it on them later as a "twist." But twists work beautifully if the character is just as befuddled by them as the audience. Since "Wild Things" offers nothing but characters who think they have secrets and alliances but are actually only pawns in a game, every twist is justified.

This new "unrated" version incorporates scenes that aren't necessary, but are joyful anyway. If you have the original cut and you've got the money to throw around, go for it. If you haven't seen it, well, it's probably not for anyone. But if the thought of a wicked little Hitchcockian melodrama, dripping with sex and humor and directed with a wink, appeals to you, you can't go wrong with "Wild Things." ... Read more

Who could possibly be the target audience for Flawless? Walter (Robert De Niro) is a homophobic policeman who suffers a stroke while responding to gunshots in his own apartment building; for speech therapy, he starts taking singing lessons from his neighbor Rusty (Philip Seymour Hoffman of Magnolia, Boogie Nights, and Happiness), a gay drag queen who's saving up money for a sex-change operation. However, there's another story line that takes up at least as much time as that one, about a drug dealer and his goons trying to find money that was stolen from them, brutally beating up everyone in their path. Furthermore, the local gay community (in New York City) seems to consist entirely of drag queens and Log Cabin Republicans, and one of Walter's cop buddies goggles at drag queens as if he's just arrived from the middle of Iowa. All the characters--including various prostitutes, drug dealers, a hotel clerk who's a weaselly mama's boy, as well as the aforementioned drag queens and cops--are horrific stereotypes. De Niro and Hoffman, both extremely talented actors, do all they can to overcome their cliché-studded dialogue, but they never seem to be in the same movie. A Study In Humanity
A retired, conservative New York City policeman and a drag queen manage to overcome some significant barriers between them, to form an alliance for their mutual benefit in "Flawless," written and directed by Joel Schumacher. In his apartment building, Walter Koontz (Robert De Niro) suffers a stroke while coming to the aid of some neighbors who are trying to elude a gunman; two people are killed in what turns out to be a matter concerning some money stolen from a local drug dealer. Walter ends up with his right side paralyzed, barely able to walk, and his speech impaired; which is one of the major obstacles he must learn to overcome. He is encouraged to try singing lessons in an effort to learn how to speak again. To that end, he enlists the help of a neighbor, with whom he had heretofore been at odds, a drag queen named Rusty Zimmerman (Philip Seymour Hoffman). "Busty Rusty," as he is billed at the club where he works, is saving for a sex-change operation, and can use the extra money, so he accepts the job. This leads to an unlikely bond between Walter, a man who values his independence, and Rusty, a tortured soul who wouldn't wish his life upon anyone. Rusty can identify with the sense of isolation Walter is feeling from being unable to do for himself any longer; he understands his self-pity, and helps him try to get past it: "I've been to that pity-party myself," Rusty tells him. Meanwhile, the tension throughout the building remains high; the drug dealer is convinced that his money is being kept by one of the residents, and the constant presence of his hired goons becomes a menace to everyone who lives there. Ultimately Walter and Rusty become involved in it, which leads to a climax that pointedly illustrates the magnanimity of the human spirit. De Niro, as expected, turns in a sterling performance here; he is so physically convincing, shading Walter's disability with such finesse, that you forget that this is an actor playing a role. There is no De Niro on the screen; this is, in fact, a man named Walter Koontz. Hoffman, as well, turns in a brilliant performance, imbuing Rusty with every nuance; he aptly conveys his subtle anxieties and the rancor that surrounds him, and with which he must live, every day of his life. Skipp Sudduth does a good job, also, as Walter's friend, Tommy, who must work through his own confusion in dealing with Walter's situation, and the people with which he now finds him involved; before the stroke, drag queens were definitely not a part of their immediate circle of friends. The supporting cast includes Barry Miller (Leonard), Christopher Bauer (Jacko), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Tia) and Karina Arrovave (Amber). Schumacher has deftly crafted a character study that examines diversity and proffers the rewards of a symbiotic existence. The message is that no one is flawless; we're imperfect creatures living together in an imperfect world, and if we can only get beyond ourselves and our prejudices, we just may find that gold at the end of the rainbow. "Flawless" is not without it's own flaws, either; some of the scenes involving the other drag queens and some of the criminal elements are somewhat overplayed at times, but that's a minor complaint. This film is deeply felt without being sentimental, and sheds some light on the human condition. It holds up a mirror to all of us, and asks the flawless among us to step forward.

Oh. My. God. Over the top terrific.
How on earth did this movie get made? It's so offbeat, such improbable fodder for the movie mill of Hollywood, so, so, so.... So over the top in every way. Two very special and talented actors hold down the story. DeNiro plays a homophobic cop who is trying to recover from a debilitating stroke; he starts by taking singing lessons from his neighbor, played by the incomparable Philip Seymour Hoffman, a pathetic drag queen who is trying to save up enough money for a sex change operation.
Well. You can imagine the looks DeNiro gives him, the comments, the eye-rolls, as Hoffman vamps or slumps around in a kimono or wig or feathered scarf. Really, really good stuff. You suspect DeNiro will emerge from this encounter as a more tolerant man, and you would be correct - but that's not the end of the tale.
There's another whole plot line about drug deals and stolen money that comes up against the gay community and the drag queens, prostitutes of all three sexes, the cops (both honest and dis) - and when the goons come to call, you fear that these people you've come to care about will come to a sad fate.
I won't say more. Just don't miss it.

Waste of talent and story
This movie really wants to be touching. It really wants to be compassionate. And it really, really wants you to have emotions for its characters...but it is also very confused with itself. Your basic, nitty-gritty story is fine - a homophobic, middle-aged man has a stroke and is trying to recover and gets help from a homosexual neighbor. Sounds good, I mean what the heck; it'll be the "Driving Miss Daisy" of our lifetime right? Well not exactly...

First, the movie does indeed amp the stereotypes as other reviewers have said. I really don't know how much effeminate, drag queen homosexuals I can take in one movie, but probably about the same amount of apologetic, subservant, unintellegent black people. Also, what was the deal with the homosexual Republicans? Did that whole subplot have any merit to the story development at all? Besides, some other stereotypes, mostly regarding perhaps hispanic or Italians, tend to nearly cross over acceptable boundaries.

Also, there is so much needless conflict in this story that I lose interest half-way, and the rest is just me being forced to watch the characters interact. After so many emotional and charming moments between our two leads, do we really need some UNCHARMING scenes involving pushers and loan sharks attacking their hapless customers? That's like if you put the Predator halfway through "E.T." - movies just don't work that way.

This movie might appease to some (I guess this glancing at the four and five star reviews) but I would suggest renting this first, and only - ONLY - if you're sincerely interested in this at all.

Over the top and bizzar
The movie was enjoyable and entertaining. I felt that most stereotypes got used a great deal and that the story was a bit strange. De Niro did an excellant job of being an old dog that hates new tricks and hates Gays. His role was believable and his vocal trainer ( Drag Queen ) was totally over the top but since I have known a few that are just as over the top as him, I was able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the film. The film quality was good and it had some good comic moments. I realize that the message was meant to be deep however I felt the movie was lacking soul. I never got drawn in to the point I forgot it was a movie, not even for a few minutes. It's an enjoyable movie for an evening sitting in front of the tube but not one you would strongly suggest friends rent or see particularly. I very much enjoy De Niro and wish I could be more possitive and up beat about my review however I can not with all honesty.

Based on change, not death.
I can understand why most people hated this movie: because it had the usual stereostypes. But what they are not seeing the realtionship that came about. It is a story that shows the world that people can change, even under the most odd of situations (here, it is a homophobe and a gay drag queen). It is actually somewhat inspiring to see this kind of relationship ensue and it is enjoyable. It nice to see a movie that focuses more on the happiness than the hatred. ... Read more

Wild Things is the kind of lurid, trashy thriller that you'll either dive into with unabashed pleasure or turn away from in prudish disgust; it's entirely your choice, but we suggest the former option since it's obviously much more fun. The plot's so convoluted it's hardly worth describing, except to say that it's set in humid Florida and involves a respected high school teacher (Matt Dillon--yes, Matt Dillon as a teacher!) who is faced with accusations of rape by a student (Denise Richards, from Starship Troopers) who had been giving him the kind of attention most people would consider improper for such a "nice" young lady. Another student (Neve Campbell) raises a similar charge against the teacher, and that's when a police officer (Kevin Bacon) begins to investigate the allegations. Just when you think the movie's gone overboard with its shameless sex and absurdly twisted plot, in drops Bill Murray as an unscrupulous lawyer (of course) to spice things up with insurance scams and welcomed comic relief. Very powerful movie!
I felt so bad for Jessie; the girl was raped twice, brutalized & ridiculed. It's nice to see her transformation from the aimless teen to someone who finds some sort of peace!

A First Feature Film That Deserves Attention
Deborah Kampmeier is a name to watch. Her first venture into film making is VIRGIN and though there are rough spots in this obviously low budget film, there is enough freshness of voice and technique to give strong notice that this is a creative artist of importance.

VIRGIN is a rather unclassifiable movie and that is part of its beauty.This is not a film about 'girls gone wrong', or about the importance of structured religion, or any of the other routine storylines that the title my suggest to the unknowing viewer.This is a story about life in rural Vermont (or any rural area) where the youth are at odds with the parents, where double standards are de rigeuer, and where far too much credence is placed on the town Church to relegate the rights and wrongs that rule the community.

Jessie Reynolds (Elisabeth Moss) lives for her champion runner sister Katie (Stephanie Gatschet) who in turn is a devout 'Christian' who with her mother (Robin Wright Penn) and father (Peter Gerety) attend church regularly.Jessie is out of the loop with the religion bit and while she supports herself with a paper route, her drinking and smoking bills are supplanted with a habit of shoplifting.She secretly longs for a boy named Shane (Charles Socarides) and has an admirer in another smarmy lad named Michael (Sam Riley).

Jessie gets drunk at a dance one evening and is seduced by Shane with the help of Qaaludes into falling asleep while Shane has sex with her. Jessie has no memory at all of the episode but when she awakens she feels as though she has been impregnated and insists that since she is a virgin, that this must be immaculate conception - that she is carry the next Christ child who will be the second coming of Christ!Obviously no one believes her, she is disowned by her father, begins to have visions (including a wild Hispanic woman who is similar to La Llorona - Socorro Santiago), and decides that she will keep her pregnancy instead of putting the baby for adoption the parents are requiring.

How this all works out on the end is a series of reality testing and morality testing and the result is a moving emotional setting.The acting is fine, especially Elisabeth Moss, and while a bit of judicious editing would have tightened this film, the impact is solid and honest,Given that the film is the first effort of Kampmeier, I for one eagerly await to see where her vision will take us.Grady Harp, March 05

An original film that breaks new ground
"Virgin" is far from your typical, light-hearted or melodramatic motion picture industry fare, the sort that I avoid religiously in video stores. This is more of a thinker's movie, European-style, where there are unanswered questions ripe for debate and discussion among your friends after the movie, rather than a plate full of neat conclusions. If you need everything spelled out for you in a movie, this is not the one for you.

A young high school girl is basically date-raped with what was probably a drug such as GHB. She openly declares her unborn child to be the next Christ. I have often wondered what the outcome might be in such a case.

The plot is unique among movies, you have to allow. I like movies that break new ground and go where others have feared to tread. Far too many movies rehash old formulas. This movie gets extra points for originality, and tempts me to overlook certain flaws.

There is no predicting where this one is going. Your eyes will be glued to the set until the end. Be prepared for well-acted, realistic drama, less violence than you might expect, and less sex than you might expect. Despite the title, definitely do not rent or buy it in anticipation of nudity or sex scenes.

Elisabeth Moss is a sympathetic, interesting and sensual character, and the camera is in love with her--expect long, lingering facial close-ups. Fortunately for the audience, she is easy on the eyes.

I felt the movie tilted, lesbian feminist-style, into maligning all men, who come across for the most part as sex-crazed, immoral animals. But this served to inform me of the writer's prejudices. I enjoyed getting deep inside the secret mind of a lesbian subversive and seeing the world through her eyes.

A knowledge of religion and human nature may help in the understanding of this movie. If you just don't "get it" like the previous reviewer commented, probably it is the result of being fed a dreary diet of dull Hollywood movies where thinking is optional and knowledge unnecessary.

The movie does not attempt to preach or instill any particular belief in the viewer. Nor is the movie particularly hostile to Christianity, despite the heretical plot. If anything, I would guess the faith of the writer to be liberal Christian with some New Age elements.

Overall, well-done, original, and instructive about human nature and religious belief. Worthy as an addition to your library if you are particularly interested in the plot.

Worth a viewing, but rent it.
WILD THINGS is definitely worth a viewing, but only one. Save some money and rent it from the video store, but get it on DVD if you are able, because the colors, picture quality and cinemotography are excellent. All of the leads are fabulous in this film. Denise Richards is a standout as a spoiled and vicious teen.

The twists and turns that Leonard Maltin spoke of aren't THAT clever. And the film does wind up shooting itself in the foot, because too much of something is never good--the viewer does catch on quickly and the surprises are no longer unexpected, hence the "gotchas" at the end are predictable. WILD THINGS could've learned something from THE USUAL SUSPECTS. There is one character surprise at the end that will have you laughing with malicious glee. They're not Keyser Soze, but they're just as clever!

A word of advice: if you rent the DVD, do NOT watch the theatrical trailer before viewing. It reveals too much of the plot.

A cool movie, twisted and sexy plot, great cast
A sexy movie churned up in a twisted plot, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Matt Dillion, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Murray make this a very worthwhile film to see. Guys will probably oogle over the threesome scene with Denise, Neve and Matt, and it's a really nice scene :-) The acting is very good, and the cast played their parts well. I knocked off a star because I didn't need to see Kevin's sausage. That could have stayed in the towel. (All I can say is, fast forward through the shower scene!) Great movie to see, and its worth buying it!

Great ending.
Great Movie I loved the ending. Did not know what to expect from this movie but it turned out great. BUY IT....

Hot Chicks, Man's Shlong?
Probably the best movie I have ever seen, except for Kevin Bacon's bacon in the shower. I did not need to see his noodle. Nice looking Girls. Best plot I have ever seen. I have seen other movies copy their plot and it wasn't as good.

Wild Things lives up to it's title
If it's not sex, it's murder. This movie continuously keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. With great performances by Neve Campbell and Matt Dillon, this movie is all about who's telling the truth. Though this movie has a few holes as to what happened, they are all filled up when you watch the credits. It has lots of violence, some drugs, a good story, and a few interesting sexual scenes. Wild Things
Wild Things is the kind of lurid, trashy thriller that you'll either dive into with unabashed pleasure or turn away from in prudish disgust; it's entirely your choice, but we suggest the former option since it's obviously much more fun. The plot's so convoluted it's hardly worth describing, except to say that it's set in humid Florida and involves a respected high school teacher (Matt Dillon--yes, Matt Dillon as a teacher!) who is faced with accusations of rape by a student (Denise Richards, from Starship Troopers) who had been giving him the kind of attention most people would consider improper for such a "nice" young lady. Another student (Neve Campbell) raises a similar charge against the teacher, and that's when a police officer (Kevin Bacon) begins to investigate the allegations. Just when you think the movie's gone overboard with its shameless sex and absurdly twisted plot, in drops Bill Murray as an unscrupulous lawyer (of course) to spice things up with insurance scams and welcomed comic relief. As directed by John McNaughton (who has a way of making just the right moves with this kind of film noir melodrama), Wild Things is a bona fide guilty pleasure--the kind of movie you may be ashamed to enjoy, but what the heck, you'll enjoy it anyway. --Jeff Shannon

Body Double
Even Brian De Palma's staunchest defenders had to swallow hard with this gaudily gory bauble of a thriller that is built around a gruesome (yet surprisingly wittily staged) stalking and murder involving a female victim and a killer with a giant power drill. This is De Palma at his most sensational, in a story about a B-movie actor with career problems (Craig Wasson) and a habit as a voyeur. He witnesses the aforementioned murder, then teams up with a porn actress (Melanie Griffith) to try and find the killer. De Palma has a blast going inside the porn film industry, and even films a pseudo rock video with one-hit wonders Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
