Bette Midler (THE FIRST WIVES CLUB, BEACHES) and Lily Tomlin (DISNEY'S THE KID, ALL OF ME, 9 TO 5) -- the first ladies of laughter -- star in this critically acclaimed box office hit about two sets of identical twins who are mismatched at birth. Forty years later, their paths cross amid the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, and the result is unrestrained pandemonium. New York's opulent Plaza Hotel is the setting for a wildly hilarious, classic case of mistaken identities, split personalities, and double trouble! With the unparalleled comedic talents of Midler and Tomlin, two's company ... four's a riot! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars They don't make comedies like this anymore....
I am SOOO HAPPY this is finally being released on DVD (my VHS copy has been watched so many times, it's not that good anymore!).

This is a great story about TWO sets of twins that are born in this rinky dink hospital in Jupiter Hollow, only to have one twin from each set mixed with the other. It's a hilarious romp and definitely a feel good movie. I think far too many critics these days miss that point. If a movie makes you feel good and makes you want to watch it over and over again, that's a 5 star movie.

Big Business will keep you coming back for a great does of monkey business!! Viva Tomlin and Midler!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Soaps In The Shapes Of Swans...Could You Die?
Special thanks to Touchstone/Disney for finally releasing one of the BEST movies of all time on DVD! (Yes, I am talking about "Big Business") Lilly and Bette have an onscreen magic that I would love to see again in another movie. (Maybe "Big Business II?") Wishful thinking on my part.

This movie is filled with quotes that me and my good buddies Frank and Jake repeat over and over. 1/2 of our conversations and daily dialect somehow involve lines from Big Business. I have always wondered if there any other people out there that are as twisted as we are! Some favorites lines:

Sadie Ratliff: "For once in my life I'm gonna be Joan Collins, and your not gonna stop me."

Sadie Shelton: "I don't see how is it that you, my own sister, can stuff your face and nothing happens and I subsist on 60 calories a day or else blow up like a Macy's Day float!"

Judy: "Hi Rose, how's Duke doing?"
Rose Ratliff: "Duke!? My Dog? Boy, when you go snoopin' into people's lives, you don't miss a trick, do you?"

Office Workers: "Hi Rose"
Rose Ratliff: "Oh, hi, hi everyone. Just fine, had a good breakfast, oatmeal, but I guess you know that. Got on my Tuesday panties, but I guess you know that too."

Sadie Ratliff: "I got to get me some of those press-on nails. Do those things stay on? I wouldn't want em floppin off in any of those fancy nightclubs."

Dr Jay: "Rose I've been doing a lot of thinking and we can fix this."
Rose Ratliff: "Fix what? Oh, you're Sly."
Dr Jay: "Sly? I couldn't be more sincere"

Small child: "What's a cow plop mommie?"

Rose Shelton: "I hate my job... I hate shopping... I hate New York in June. How about you?"

Sadie Ratliff: "I hate grits. And I hate men who smell like beer and bean dip...and makin' love in the back of recreational vehicles!"

I could go on and on, but will stop here before I quote the whole movie. The fun of Big Business is endless. Be sure to buy this DVD, you won't be sorry you did!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
This movie is one of my favorites from growing up. I probably watched it at least 100 times as a child. I'm so glad to see it on DVD. Bette Midler(who plays Sadie and Sadie) and Lily Tomlin (who plays Rose and Rose)are so funny!

4-0 out of 5 stars Lord, my load is heavy!
This movie is not one of the most memorable comedies of the eighties, but it should be. It stands out among the booby comedies and the over the top antics of the era. What this dvd lacks in features, it makes up for in laughs. The simple premise and fabulous comedic timing make this a romp suitable for the whole family. I laugh my hind-quarters off everytime I watch it! SAVE JUPITER HOLLOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Movie is hilarious
Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin are great together. They are very funny in this movie and I would highly recamend this movie to all ages from kids to adults. It is about two set's of twins who get seperated at birth because the nurse mixes them up. I think that this movie is a movie that you can watch over and over again because it is so funny! ... Brandon Lee’s penultimate picture isn’t much on paper--a dour college kid, bitter over his activist father’s death in Tiananmen Square, is targeted by a Chicago mobster after witnessing a gangland killing and reluctantly joins forces with brooding, obsessed cop Powers Boothe--but then who was watching this for the story? Consider this his screen test for the superior The Crow. Lee bites off bad dialogue with surly sneers, swaggers through scenes with the confidence of a movie veteran, and moves... well, his moves are the real reason to see the film. Nick Mancuso has a good time as the weasely mobster getting sloppy in his desperation, and Powers plays the father figure with less conviction than sheer tenacity, but Brandon Lee is the star-in-the-making of this production. This, unfortunately, is no star vehicle, but it provides enough bone-crunching, butt-kicking martial arts action for any action junkie. --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Make way for Mr. Lee!!
RAPID FIRE is definitely a kung fu movie classic, and right now, my favorite Brandon Lee movie (Just about to watch the rather under-recognized LASER MISSION.) Brandon Lee stars as college student/martial arts master Jake Lo, who refuses to join Chinese Democracy activists, since his father was murdered for the very same cause. Lo becomes entangled in a web of diaster when mafia druglord Antonio Serrano (Nick Mancuso) murders the chief distributor of a competing drug lord Kinman Tau (Tzi Ma, from RUSH HOUR)to get ahold of his drug trade. Lo has the unenviable misfortune of witnessing the whole damn thing and must join forces with crusty chicago cop Ryan (Powers Booth) and his beautiful partner (Kate Hodge) to take down both Serrano AND Tau. Once the action starts, it doesn't stop. I think the climatic battle between Brandon and asian bad guy Al Leong (whose had duels with guys like Jean-Claude Van Damme and Bruce Willis) is this movies best and easily the best in '92, and finally one of the best ever. One of the quite abundant brawls even occurs on the chicago el, where Brandon and his opponent mostly just use steel rods as their weapons. A kung fu flick to be cherished by kung fu fans, as well as Brandon Lee fans all over the world. Buy this one right now, you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Among the martial arts/action elite
No matter how many times I watch this movie, it never seems to get old. Combining elements of American action shoot 'em ups with the chop-socky combat of the Hong Kong martial arts genre, "Rapid Fire" seems bent on squeezing as many action sequences as possible into its brisk 90-minute running time. However, in between fight scenes, the writers and director actually take time for little things like plot and character development, which are too often lacking in martial arts flicks (can you say Steven Seagal)? The main characters, Brandon Lee's reluctant crime fighter and Powers Boothe's grizzled cop, actually have some beliefs and internal conflicts that motivate their actions. And on top of that, there are some actors in this movie who can actually act! In the action department, the fight scenes are extremely well done, devoid of camera tricks, multiple angles, fancing directing, or any other gimmicks that distract from the fight scenes themselves. It seems the makers of this film knew what they had in Brandon Lee and let him and the other actors carry the action on their own, a decision that definitely paid off. Highly recommended for those who want a little brains to go with their action.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lee blazes!!!
Lee blazes and fights away in this sometimes good action movie but Lee is the glue that holds this up...remember the fridge part in the movie..yeah, yeah....though Lee sprouts some crappy dialouge you just cant get enough of his beautiful baby face..yes I said that...I highly recommened THE CROW because its his best and last work ever..though if you rent SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO starring him and oppisite sucky Doplh Lundgren..somethings wrong with you

5-0 out of 5 stars BRANDON LEE IS [GREAT]!!!
Brandon Lee is one of the best martial artist of all time and in this movie he just demonstrate that, this movie is awesome!!!.I also want to say that my DVD dosn't have the disc deffect people are talking about and don't freeze in any part of the movie. I also wnat to recomend SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO and the most brilliant movie of all time THE CROW!!! ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good movie......Disc defects!
Well, I just got my order of Rapid Fire today and just like some of the customers who posted an interview, I too am having slight problems with the disc. Actually, just 1 minor problem. It freezes in the middle of the fight in the bar just before Brandon fights the big man. I don't how it's possible for many people to have this same problem with different 'Rapid Fire' DVD discs. I thought it was either the disc or my DVD player. Luckily, I came here to and found out that I'm not the only one with this disc defect. I guess the company that made the Rapid Fire disc are the ones responsible(manufacture defect). Please correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

I've already found out from other people that they have returned their Rapid Fire disc to replace it with the same copy and still they have the same problem. I won't even bother returning it after finding this out.

Another problem I experience is the poor quality sound. I have Rapid Fire on tape. Actually, my dad recorded it on a tape in EP(extended play) when I was little and to this day the sound comes out better than the one on DVD. When I say that, I mean that in my tape, a punching sound can be heard and felt better than the one on DVD. The sound on DVD(gun shots, punches, etc.) was toned down a bit. I also have some other movies on DVD where some sounds cannot be heard or were toned down whereas on VHS, the sound effects are better heard.

Does anyone know why the "pause" happens in the bar fight? I once tried to fast forward it but it froze and nothing happens. I even tried to rewind, press stop, and even push the OFF button on my DVD player and it still wouldn't do anything. It completely froze my whole DVD player....then after 5 seconds it turned off cause I pressed the OFF button. Reminds me of my computer everytime it freezes. I guess it's because I have to fast forward right BEFORE it freezes, NOT WHILE it is frozen. Anyone here ever tried that?

Other than that, the movie was good. I've always like this movie and Brandon Lee is amazing. It's just that damn defect though that ruins my interest in watching the movie on DVD. Damn, now I have to resort to my VHS version, which I don't mind but the problem is, my VHS player isn't working at the moment. Heheh.

Well, that's it. Someone please respond back if you are in the same position as I am. Thanks! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars MURD3R 8Y NUM8ERS
Homicide cop Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock, who also executive produced)discovers the body of a female strangulation victim wrapped in plastic. But the problem with the investigation is that two rich kids, Michael Haywood (Ryan Gosling from BELIEVER) and Justin "Bonepart" Pendleton (Michael Pitt) have planned the murder and are observing the cops as they uncover each clue they have planted for them.
Directed by Barbet Schroeder (SWF, BARFLY) MURDER BY NUMBERS sometimes echoes Hitchcock's ROPE. Gosling and Pitt are good as the rich kids whose "perfect murder" turns out to be anything but. The planning behind the murder will fascinate crime buffs, and MURDER BY NUMBERS basic premise is helped considerably by strong performances from Gosling and Pitt; though the movie tends to fluctuate a bit in the last half hour. Still recommended. Luciano Tovoli's atmospheric photography aids greatly in helping maintain viewer interest.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dumb and depressing!
This movie is so boring that I like literally found a cure for caffeine overload! Nothing is worth pointing out because there is virtually nothing worth watching iwth this film. Nothing else to say but that this crime borer is one to pass up.

2-0 out of 5 stars A potentially great movie murdered by weak story.
I am very dissapointed with this movie even when my expectations were modest.

Two young men, likely around high school age, try to attempt to pull of what would likely be the 'perfect murder' and try to get away with it. Sandra Bullock plays a police detective with a psychologically painful and checkered past who is aiming to investigate and find out what happened when a women was found dead in a river recently.

This movie is unbelievably predictable that there is little of anything that instantly grabs your attention. The acting is incredibly hammy and it almost feels like you can tell that Sandra really wanted to walk off the set of this film and for good reason: "Murder by Numbers" is absolutely boring and never gets off the ground. The characters are weak and without any personality and the dialogue is virtually nonexistant.

A major dissapointment to say the least. Try out "Blood Work" instead because it is far superior even if it suffers too from some weaknesses.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dull and Predictable Thriller
Extremely boring and unconvinced crime thriller in which two psycho teenagers commited a murder just to prove to them selves that they are genious. But they have to confront smart police officer (played with no intensity by Bullock)who take up the investigation of the gruesome case. Predictable, dull and unsuspenseful. Strictly for horror buffs with an appetite for gratuitous gore and bloodshed, Dr. Giggles is appropriately titled, since the title character (played by Larry Drake, best known as Benny from TV's L.A. Law) is a psychotic killer who chuckles uncontrollably as he eviscerates his victims. Having escaped from a mental hospital, he returns to the town where he was raised to seek bloody revenge on those responsible for the death of his mad doctor father. His chosen payback method is a lot of unnecessary surgery. But then he takes pity on a teenaged girl who desperately needs a heart transplant. Of course, he's got plenty of involuntary donors! That should tell you enough to know if you'd actually want to watch this movie, which is actually worth a few laughs--or at least a few giggles--if you're into this kind of thing. Drake puts everything he's got into his performance, and you have to admire his effort in the service of a lost cause. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Actually, it's quite good!
I've seen A LOT of these critical reviews here poking at this movie. But those reviewers don't know nothing about horror! "Dr. Giggles" is a very original low-budget 'B' movie that stars Larry Drake as the slightly twisted and insane wannabe medical doctor who just has a non-stop laughing habit! After escaping from an institute, the mad doctor finds refuge in a small town where he grew up as a child when his father was also a doctor. He returns to his old home, and in no time the doctor is out... OF HIS MIND! One by one patients (or victims in this case) fall into unwanted appointments that lead to pure bloodshed and mayhem! Bad acting, cheesy rock music, and laughable dialogue make up this scary frightfest. However, for gore buffs there's plenty of blood and gore to go around! It's really disturbing, but a very fun film that's worth at least one watch! (you'll want to come back for seconds later!) If you're looking for a horror flick that's both scary and funny at the same time, then this rare piece of gold is the one to own! I also recommend "The Dentist" which also carries some of the same similarities as this film, although a bit more terrifying! "Dr. Giggles" is sure to put a smile on your face!

4-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Hilarious...
My favorite part was when the good Dr. was about to start operating on the girl from Charmed, and the cop came in and pointed the gun at him, and the Dr. just shouted at him "Have a heart," and then threw a heart at him. Great stuff. Check it out, if you dare.

5-0 out of 5 stars Coolest Horror Movie Ever!
I found this horror movie to be very funny, gory, and kinda scary. The only reason I watched it was because it had Holly Marie Combs in it. I found it to be the best horror movie I had ever seen. And I have seen a lot of horror movies. The scene in the fun house was the only scene to scare me in any horror movie!

1-0 out of 5 stars laugh-out-loud-funny
Larry Drake(Overnight Delivery, Dark Man) plays a son of a man who inhearits his habits..which is killing people...he stalks Holly Marie Combs(Tv's Charmed) and her friends and kills them off one by one..giggling his way threw the murders. terrible acting and bad killings make this one washout..also starring Doug E. Doug(That Darn Cat, Eight Legged Freaks), Ricahrd Brooks(The Substitute and Wes Craven's Shocker), Cliff DeYoung(Suicide Kings and The Substitute) and the deceased but still everso great Glenn Quinn(Tv's Angel, Tv's Roseanne, Live Nude Girls, Shout, and Campfire Tales) Quinn pasted away tradgicly last year, he was one of the good ones I tell ya

4-0 out of 5 stars Larry Drake Was Great For His Role!
Larry Drake(Dr.Giggles) or Dr. Randell is a supposed-to-be psychotic doctor who escapes from a mental ward and gives payback to the families that has killed his father(also a maniac who was stoned to death because he chopped up his patients). Now Dr. Giggles is back to kill people with his crazy long, needle point thermometers and just weird sharp a long/large contraptions. This movie has some gore. This movie creeped me out when I was a little and It did now even though i rented it a few years later now that im 15 almost 16. Now I kinda laugh at it. The tools is what kinda freaked me out. You don't really see the death scenes or what the people look like after the horror is done to them really. You sure do though in The Dentist. I can't watch that movie without cringing this movie kinda felt like the Dentist. Larry Drake was a great Doctor in this with his sarcastic/mellow one liners like 'Doctor's know best'. When Larry gets shot with a gun. I kinda felt sorry for him cause of his whimpers/giggles. It was kinda sad. Though I liked the idea though that this one girl he finds that has heart problems he really wants to help her. And thats what I liked about the movie. His contraptions though when he's supposedly was suppose to die was wild on believe thank god he didn't really use them on the girl who's supposedly on the television hit show (Charmed). She uses them on him! It's a great classic movie my dad use to watch and I think it is one movie to own. Even though it's out of stock which sucks. They should re-release it again on DVD and VHS. ...
