2-0 out of 5 stars Bubbly Blather
The only thing going for this Latina chick flick is the eye-candy appeal of its stars, since the plot is a ludicrous rehash of an old formula. Charming Tomas (Eduardo Verastegui) has three girlfriends living in different American cities, who, of course, decide to surprise him all at once, only to discover the existence of the others. Severe lawyer Lorena (Roselyn Sanchez) is gorgeous once she removes her glasses, while hot chili Cici (Sofia Vergara) understands the power of cleavage. Add pampered rich girl Patricia (Jaci Velasquez), throw in a drug money subplot that brings in yet another beautiful woman (Lisa Vidal) as the FBI agent, and you've got the full range of this silly movie. Its theme of female empowerment is overshadowed by lots of shrieking, running around, and ridiculous plot turns. This is one of those movies I can't believe I actually watched.

I gave this flick an extra star simply because of the charisma the performers bring to their slender roles. Men wanting a glimpse of these actresses in sexy garb and women looking for a silly women against the world flick won't be disappointed - as long as they aren't looking for an interesting plot.

1-0 out of 5 stars This was a horrible and stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid movie
From beggining to end i was wincing in pain about how unfunny and stupid the movie was. Maybe I don't get it because i'm not latino, but then again i find most latino comedians and actors very funny and entertaining, so it just must be this bag of crap.

2-0 out of 5 stars lite film with some Fun&Hot chicks
the film is pretty lightweight on a whole but it has a nice charm with a well known Hollywood cliche in film making.I applaud the effort.the chicks in this Film are Happening Babes Fo SHO.but there ain't much to the Film but it has some fun to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Surprise
When my friend first gave me this movie. My first thought she has to be kiddding. But I glad I didn't let my judgement rule me. Because I would miss a great movie about empowerment, love and friendship. D.L. Hughley was hilarious. My Favorite is Lorena played by Roselyn Sanchez. But the cast was great. I would recommended this movie to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of sh**!!
This is the worst film i've seen in a long, long, long time. As i was sitting through this so called movie waitig for the credits to start, i found myself in mindnumbing agony. So i will not go in to the details of how stupid and just plain unfunny "Chasing Papi" actually is, because it would be just to painful (I'm not kidding).
I urge anybody who is considering to rent or even buy this "movie" not to do so. There are plenty of other stupit comedies out there that don't make you whant to blow your brains out. ... Read more

Description

The Blue Diner is a film about food, memory, language, and caskets. It is the story of a Puerto Rican mother and daughter living together in Boston and the difficulties they encounter when the daughter, Elena, mysteriously loses her ability to speak Spanish, her first language. Everyone has a theory about the origin of Elena's misfortune, but no one knows for certain what has caused the tragic and absurd event. As Elena's language disappears, her boyfriend's painting inexplicably appears at the Fine Arts Museum where her mother works. In a misguided attempt to obtain an artist's visa, his actions unleash a world of misunderstanding and trouble for Elena and her mother. As the relationship between mother and daughter deteriorates, the two women are forced to confront each other and their murky past. A haunting song, a missing father, and a plate of fried brains help to reunite Elena, her mother, and her language. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally a Solution for Satisfying Bilingual Audiences!
As the Hispanic/Latino population grows in the US we are gifted with more and more movies in Spanish from Spain, Argentina, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. Some directors have attempted to maintain one language for these films and present them with subtitles. That always seems like the director doesn't pay attention to the need for bilingual status, especially in such states as California. Thus it is a special pleasure to view THE BLUE DINER, a dandy little film that is honest, deals with issues of immigrant perceptions and problems as well as trials and triumphs, and delivered in a bilingual spoken format. Jan Egleson wrote and directed this well paced story about a Puerto Rican mother (Miriam Colon) who moves to Boston, working proudly in housekeeping at a museum to pay for her daughter Elena's education (Lisa Vidal). Meche (the mother) speaks little English; her daughter has gone to school and has a good job in a mortuary where her skills as being bilingual allow her to climb the 'corporate ladder'. She is dating the owner of the mortuary Brian (John Mulcahy) who is attempting to learn Spanish. Elena's heart secretly belongs to Tito (Jose Yenque), a fellow Puerto Rican, who works as an artisan making caskets to support his real dream of becoming established as a fine artist. Elena's duplicity of response to Brian and to Tito is complicated by her mother's demand that she court only the 'Americano' with all the supposed success that implies. The secret of Elena's father's identity and history begins to play into the love triangle, Tito sneaks one of his paintings into the museum where Meche works the night shift, Meche is blamed for the breech in museum security, the tension produces a 'stroke' in Elena whose only symptom is that she is unable to speak or understand her native tongue of Spanish, and it is only through the loving intervention of Papo (William Marquez) at his home base Blue Diner that all ends well.

The story is delightful, the actors are excellent, but the major pleasure of this film is that it is respectfully half in English and half in Spanish. Subtitles are provided, of course, but the conversations encourage us to try to understand both languages. I think this shows profound respect for the audience and it is to Egleson's credit that this film succeeds so well. A good story, with significant social commentary, and very well acted.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great movie!
This is an excellent film about culture, love and life in general. This film appeals to all people and brings up some great questions about the challenges of losing one's culture to the "American Way."

5-0 out of 5 stars FINALLY A FILM THAT SHOWS US LATINOS AS HUMANS
I was overjoyed to see the depth of the characters in this film. There they were in all their humanity and joy - they were latins! Finally, an american film that shows latins not as prostitutes, gangsters, etc. I am very proud these people made this film. I hope many non-latin americans get to see it and discover that we are just like they are! The story is very simple but elegant in its simplicity and is full of humor and some moments of despair. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars tricks of the trade
ACTIVE STEALTH stars Daniel Baldwin, Fred Williamson, and Hannes Jaenicke (sp.?) in a standard rescue-mission action flick. Soldiers fly in a "modified" Stealth fighter to save their comrade, held prisoner by a Central American drug lord. Watching the DVD the first time, the movie held my interest, and I thought it was average fare--entertaining but not memorable.

I watched the DVD again with commentary by director Fred Olen Ray, and it was a blast. Ray is a hoot. His comments give all kinds of insight into how the movie was made. He introduces actors, and explains how shots are usually set up and executed. He explains special effects. Ray tells what it cost to rent the plane, and how the crew created "smoke" blowing past the actors in a few scenes (a worker blowing pipe smoke at them, actually).

Throughout the commentary, Fred is entertaining. If you've ever wondered how a B-movie gets made, ACTIVE STEALTH is for you.

I give the movie 3 stars, and the DVD 5 stars. Split the difference, and the ACTIVE STEALTH DVD gets 4 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is so innaccurate!
This movie was a real loser. It is so innaccurate. "Rangers assulting a target in broad daylight with standard issue M-16's an M9's with no silencers or scopes. Most Rangers would use an M-4 or an MP5. No face paint, no stealth at all. Also, what Army unit flys a news crew style helicopter to pickup Rangers in the middle of South America? It should have been a Blackhwawk or a Huey gunship with AH-64 Apache air support.
The capabibility to shoot of these "Rangers" is terrible too. At little more than 100 feet they empty an entire clip and hit nothing but air.
The worst part of the movie was Army pilots flying an Air Force F-117 TWO SEATER WITH A CARGO BAY? NO NO NO!! It is a 1 man AIR FORCE, stealth bomber. Also Army pilots "carrier qualified" and F-14 qualified? No.
No. This movie was terrible, do not rent or buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible! Don't even rent it!!!
First of all, the movie/plot description on the DVD clamshell is so inaccurate that I wondered if I had received the wrong DVD. Example: The plot description states that a new Army (?) Stealth aircraft" has been stolen, so some special forces rangers are to lead an AH-64 Apache Squadron to bring the Stealth back to U.S. hands. Fine. BUT, there were NO AH-64's in the movie at all. AND, since when does the Army develop fixed-wing aircraft these days? Rangers in dire need of haircuts with no body armour going into battle? USAF/Army pilots that are carrier qualified to fly F-14s?
This movie is so technically inaccurate that it was frustrating. Very rarely do you see any of the actors (good or bad) actually aim there weapons when firing. Horrible acting, horrible technical advising (if there was any), lousy plot...I can go on and on. WARNING!: Don't be fooled by the DVD cover!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars short but sweet
This movie shows that with some team work anything can happen, even if you get killed in the process you did what you could to make a difference in the world. This movie was short but it a good movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking??
The budget for this movie obviously didn't include any technical advisors. This might have made for some enjoyable fare if there weren't so many obvious technical goofs and downright stupid plot points. Examples: An army pilot is carrier qualified to fly the F-14. Battle sequences that any Quake player could execute better. An F-117A with a cargo bay to carry passengers! There are many more, but I think you get the point.

This movie is for someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the real world. I can usually suspend belief if the story is any good, but this one just stinks!

Daniel Baldwin, I hope you don't include this turd on your resume because it's a career killer! ... Read more
