5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Runnings warms the heart
I remember seeing this movie in the theatre when it first came out. It's the heart-warming true story behind the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team. After jumping through numerous hoops such as racial discrimination, a coach with a shady past, and a rickety bobsled, they land themselves a bobsledding spot in the Winter Olympics, something Jamaica never had before.
John Candy gives a stellar performance, unfortunately it was one of his last. At times he's comical, while others, more dramatic. He's a character easy to fall in love with. I miss him.
Overall, Cool Runnings teaches the fundamentals of determination and never letting anything come between yourself and your dreams. Even when catastrophy ended the Jamaican's third bobsled run, they still got up and carried their sled across the finish line. Even if their time didn't earn a gold medal, their heart did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart- warming and inspiring...
Bobsled to a Caribbean is like a Yeti to the Sahara desert. Both simply dont exist!. And yet, 4 guys with dreams in their eyes, set out to acheive the unmaginable in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. To represent their country Jamaica in Bobsledding!.

"Cool Runnings" is based on this true story, but with a few changes that needless to say, is aimed at making the movie more dramatic. Leon(Derice Bannock)is an athlete aimed at making amends for his failure to secure a berth in the Jamaican Sprint Team. With no way out, he decides to try Bobsled, a sport no Caribbean in his right mind would even know it exists. Irv Blitzer(John Candy), a disgraced former champion Bobsledder decides to train Leon the intricacies of this "bone-shattering" sport. To compete in the event would however require 3 more bobsledders to make up the team. In comes his best friend Sanka(Doug.E.Doug), the tempermental Yul Brenner(Malik Yoba) and the reserved Junior Bevil(Rawle Lewis). What you end up with is a team of hysterical proportions, but with a heart.

"Cool Runnings" is not so much about the event as it is with the main characters. The Jamaicans are determined to compete in an event that is considered solely the domain of a few Icelandic- Nordic nations. The 4 guys are felt out of place, racialized and ridiculed at the event while the coach(Candy) is humiliated and taunted at every turn by the organizers. The crux lays in how they overcome their hardships and ultimately win the crowd, if not a medal. The movie is absolutely hilarious considering the Jamaicans have never seen snow in real life. The initial training on their island is itself worth every penny you paid to watch this movie. However the movie's main strength is in its moral message. "Believe". The movie is based entirely on this one word.

Leon is superb in his role as the leader who never gives up. John Candy is without doubt an actor with a heart of gold. Every movie he has been involved in, he brings in that 'human element' into picture. He is perfect as the flawed but determined coach. The find of the movie however, is Rawle Lewis as Junior Beville. He has the best dialogues and behind that meek physique ,stands a truly compassionate and competitive character. Sanka is the funny bone whose expressions are enough to spill your guts out while Yul Brenner is a tough but protective fellow who eventually warms up to the team and gets transformed at the end of the event. Ultimately it is the will and the confidence they derive from each other at every turn of the event that makes this movie so heart-warming.

The movie has a nice flow to it and the music is catchy. Jon Tutletaub(Director) puts everyting in the right place and the direction is straight forward but slick. Though some parts of the movie are fictionalized, it is forgivable since the main theme isn't lost. Infact it actually enhances it. I must say that movies like this generally tend to have a predictable ending. You'll know you'll have a happy one at that. But watch Cool Running's final few scenes and the phrase 'finish the race' will take a whole new meaning to you. The ending is inspiring..surprising..simply magnificent. Go watch it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hillarious and Inspirational
Everytime I watch Cool Runnings, I still feel the magic and excitement of the first time I watched it. This movie is exceptional. Everything about it works.
The acting is powerful, the story is both exciting and moving, the comedy is fresh and enjoyable, and the soundtrack is perfectly suited to support the mood of the movie.
Cool Runnings is a perfect family film. People of all ages will be drawn to it and enjoy cheering for the Jamaican Bobsled team. There is some mild use of profanity, but it can be overlooked in favor of the moving story, and the morals that children will pick up along with it. Cool Runnings shows the value of pride, tolerance, and persistance.
Throughout the course of the movie we see the team prove to the world through their persistance that they are just as good as any other team, regardless of where they come from. They learn to become a team, learn to take pride in their culture, and do a lot of self discovery.
This movie is one of the few that is sure to touch you and to uplift your spirit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teenagers dig this movie!
Catchy music, funny crashes, bar fight, a sledder who pees in the sled because he's so scared, calling each other names like Sanka and Yul Brynner....all make for a great laugh in the eyes of a teenager. I've shown this movie to dozens of teens and it never disappoints. The fact is that it's a true story of people chasing their dream, and it has a perfect blend of silly with poignant and great pace to keep adults and young adults alike INTERESTED and entertained the entire time. Also, it follows real life at the end and doesn't have a bunch of no-name Jamaicans taking the gold at the Olympics....teens expect a Disney ending like that and appreciate seeing, instead, the truth. However, ANYONE who watches it finds themselves rooting for these no-name Jamaicans and kind of wishing they would medal even though, realistically, they have no chance. BUY IT and watch it and show it to others...its timeless themes never go out of date.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Movies I've Seen
"Cool Runnings" is one of the best movies I have seen.
The story line, John Candy and the Jamaican Bobsledders,
the switch from warm Jamaica to cold Calgary all make for a
warm and funny movie. I'm going to take the advice of another
reviewer and watch it now to revive the "feel-good" feeling
of the entire movie. A classic to buy and keep. A true
comedy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Im a big fan of Ginger Snaps
My dad and brother dont like it but I love it the 1st and 2d was cool I love those movies but I cant wait to see Ginger Snaps 3 The review you wrote when you met Emily Perkins you are so lucky I wish I could meet her o well I guess I have to wait till Ginger Snaps 3 comes out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great beginning to this great trilogy
Yesterday,I went to the Ginger Snaps 3 premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. It was so great to see Emily and Katharine on the the big screen again. In this one,the sisters Brigitte and Ginger go from town to town because they're parents "drowned".But when Brigitte gets caught in a werewolf trap, the have to go to this remote outpost where the people are batteling "demons" at night for Brigitte's leg to heal. There,Ginger gets bit by a boy who is turning ito a werewolf. So from there, lost of things happend. The movie has a really great atmosphere, great set and is filmed beautifully. It also has some scares and the humor from the first two was still there.Every fan of the first two will love this one and those who didn't even see the first two don't even have to see then because this is totaly different and doesn't follow the story of the first two.At the premiere,Emily Perkins was there and the producer.I got to take Emily's autograph and took a picture with her(she is so ugly in the movie but in real life she is hot).Anyway go see the movie in theatres if it's released(maybe in August says the producer) and if it's not,buy the dvd. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Live Every Moment, as if it were your last.....
That was the tag line from this great movie, about choices, love, and death. Thats really what life is all about, if you sit back and think about it. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I am so happy that my favorite actress was involved in it SHARON STONE brings a strong hard preformance after her best role ever in SLIVER, she comes back with a bang. This movie is definetly not going to let you down. Its about a Vancouver Architect who is in love with his wife, and his mistress. When the two women cross paths, his life becomes shattered. This movie will have you crying for more, as it ends with a.......

5-0 out of 5 stars THE "INTERSECTION" OF GREAT ACTING AND DIRECTION
Richard Gere guides you through his life in a series of flashbacks that details his troubled marriage and the meeting of his significant other. The movie clearly keeps your attention by cleverly combining flashbacks with the present day to tell a story in an unconventional way. The storyline can probably be applied to almost anyone who views the movie. We all have shared this struggle with emotion. Maybe the critics see too much of themselves in this movie, therefore they have cast it aside in order not to shine any light on their own lives.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved this movie
I absolutely loved this movie. Totally feel that it did not get the acclaim it deserved. You fall head over heels with Lolita Davidovitch's character because she is so warm, loving, funny and human. Sharon Stone, while a bit of an ice queen, is the mother of Gere's child and still has a large part of his heart. My favorite part of the movie is the last scene with the women together. While they are miles apart in style and attitude, they both have an amazing amount of heart and class in their own unique way that comes through in the way neither chooses to hurt the other.

3-0 out of 5 stars Intersection
Interesting premise here. Sharon and Richard are divorced, sharing custody of a daughter who is flirting with an eating disorder. Through flashbacks, we're shown some of the factors that led to the demise of the marriage. Mmeanwhile, we see Davidivich and Gere who meet at an auction. They hit it off and she'd like their relationship to continue on to the next phase--moving in together.

Gere must chose between the family left behind, and rekindling an old passion, and moving forward with a new flame.

Sharon Stone does a terrific job, as does Gere and Davidivich. A common situation ends uncommonly. Making choices, regret, fate, and letting go are all addressed here. Not an Oscar winner, no, but worth watching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such an exellent American film ... so underrated ? Why ?
Why it is so underrated ? May be because it doesn't have normal good ending ... but in my point of view - it does . The scene between Lolita Davidovich and Sharon Stone at the end ... THIS what made a real good end to this fine film .
Richard Gere is stuck between his controlfreak reach wife ( Sharon Stone )and a love of his life ( Lolita Davidovich ). He stuck between must and want . He has to pick , but he cann't . And we think , we know his final desision ... but we don't . At the last minute of this film we do find out ... and we still surprised . ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars fun movie
I remember watching this movie over and over when I was younger. You can't go wrong with the Olsen twins movies from when they were little--I'm sure most of us would agree that they were absolutely adorable and endearing at this age.

DDTT is a fun Halloween movie with lots of magic and supernatural powers that might be too much for younger kids, but it's still a very enjoyable film. Sick and tired of being twins, 7-year-olds Lynn and Kelly often get into fights. After experiencing cold rejection from their witch aunt Agatha and hearing stories from a mysterious "grave-digger," the girls finally learn of their parents' financial problems and set off on their own to rescue their beloved Aunt Sophia, who was the victim of a spell from her sister Agatha 7 years ago and is the only person who will be able the family get out of debt. And of course, lots of friends are made along the way, and the movie has got Mary-Kate and Ashley as the stars--a good formula for a kids' film.If you're a kid, you'll probably enjoy watching this on Halloween--if you're like me or anyone else who remembers the Olsen twins' younger days, you'll also enjoy watching and remembering.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite Olsen movie
This is my favorite Olsen movie that they have made, mainly because unlike so many of their more recent movies, it has a good plot and a very good supporting cast. The plot sends 7-year-olds Lynn and Kelly on a Halloween night mission to get a magical moonstone from their evil aunt who has cast a spell on their other aunt. Fun for little kids, but also enjoyable for older fans. It's a good movie to pull out around Halloweentime (or whenever) and at 17 years old, I am not ashamed to watch it because it is truly one of Mary-Kate and Ashley's better movies. I guess the reason I think that is because of the stronger recognition of the other characters--they really get a more substantial role in the movie than the surrounding characters in some of MKA's other movies. In this film, you'll fall in love with the endearing gravedigger, the money-hungry yet lovable Mr. N, and the supportive, "take charge" Oscar the Clown. And then you've got the girls' parents--who, for once, actually act like parents. Gentle, loving, good people--and yet they have problems of their own that they must get through as a family. Now you start to get the feel of a real movie with a real plot. Too many of Mary-Kate and Ashley's movies either have them with single moms or dads(which there is nothing wrong with at all, but it got a little repetitive with the Olsens) or completely up-in-the-clouds parents who were practically at their feet doting on them and giving them everything, thus showing the viewer exactly what life is NOT like. This movie is one exception where the casting of the girls' parents is very strong and realistic. After seeing enough of their other films, you may grow to appreciate seeing this. I am a long-time fan of these girls' films--have been ever since their memorable Full House days. But if you're looking for a quality Olsen movie, I'd recommend that you go for the ones from their younger years--this one may be your best bet. But that's only my opinion.

1-0 out of 5 stars Parents Beware
I purchased this video and was appalled when I watched it with my child. The twins go home with a homeless man without a second thought! What kind of message is this for children? Plus, the movie has disturbing imagery, that I found scary even as an adult. This is not wholesome entertainment!

Looking for a good "scary" movie for five+? Try The Ghost and Mr. Chicken with Don Knots. I loved it, and now all the many children in my life love it, too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't get this video
This is a scary show, not due to the Halloween content, but because two little girls run away from home, talk to a stranger (a homeless man, or "hobo", go into another stranger's house (who is a midget male clown), need I say more? Although these fellows turn out to be nice guys, we all know that doesn't always happen in the real world. Bad message for kids who are supposed to be learning not to talk to strangers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Double Double tiol and trouble
I loved the movie. I am a big fan of the olsen twins. I have liked them since they were in Full House as babies. They are so cute and I am going to keep bying their movies until they stop making them. They are such a joy to watch on tv considering all of the bad junk that is on tv these days. I have a 3 year old child who loves the olsen twins as well. she gets me ot go out and buy them when she
sees them advertised on the tv.Elizabeth ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies of all time
To me any movie with Sean Penn, or Robert DeNiro is going to be a good movie, and the combination of both of them in one movie is a masterpeice. The movie was Funny, and exiting. I hope whoever reads this review, sees the movie and enjoys it just like I did

5-0 out of 5 stars Sean Penn's best work
I thought it was a GREAT great movie. Funny, sad, thoughtful, but especially, I thought Sean Penn was dynamite! He manages to completely lose himself in the character and become this humble, bumbling, simple 'priest' while maintaining his reality as Robert DeNiro's fellow escapee.

5-0 out of 5 stars the big movie now, is "The Passion of Christ"
this is the big movie now; but this movie; maybe one needs to be Roman Catholic to totally get it and in that way; some might brace themselves for some sacrilege but it really is not so; it is a very spiritual movie; Penn and Deniro both put out top ranking performances; I watched it on USA network quite a few times before I knew the title of this movie and that some years prior, Humprhey Bogart made a movie with the same title but that the plots are not exactly a like. We see, some redemptions in this movie; Hoyt Axton writer of a song that had some swearing and that is the song "The Pusher" plays his role as Monsignor (or what ever precisely he was in the movie), absolutely devoutly, jovial (like an Irishman which he may well be) and perfectly; I believe, the order of Monks of which they are, are like Benedictines; the nostalgia of the movie is great, the humor, where Penn sees the sign reading some quotation from Galatians or similar; in saving their necks and getting a ride from an elderly lady, after they break out of prison.

Well, is that saying a lot? Didn't follow it?

Well; Sean Penn's role finds redemption in his role, iut is very inspirational; Hoyt Axton seems to find redemption in the role; the deaf girl daughter of Demi Moore, is certainly saved and redeemed; Demi as well; really, it seems that only Robt. Deniro's role, lacks the redemption and he seems to continue his scalawag ways;

Comedy, how grand on a scale, when, through miraculous "God works in strange ways" events, Demi Moore's daughter loses her status of deaf mute and the first thing she can say, is "Convicts" she recognizes Penn and Deniro as being the escaped convicts, but Deniro turns it around to that she said "Converts" and saves themselves there.

Deniro is worldly, Penn experiences a spiritual awakening; that ending could bring tears to the eyes of some, at least me; A+ plus plus is this movie for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars A movie doesn't have to be great to be enjoyable
I have always found this movie to be entertaining. This may not be a legendary movie, but it is a fun to watch. It's first problem is that "We're no Angles" is a the name of a great movie from 1955, so it easy to expect more from this movie then it could ever deleaver. De Niro and Penn talents make up for a simple script and turn it into a fun story. Demi Moore is dispointing as she provides little to the part of the prostute, yet Hoyt Axton does very well as the head of the monastery.

Both men play excaped cons forced to make they way to Canada, but trapped at the boarder. Un-educated and desperate, De Niro and Penn bluff their way into the local monatery. An annual ceremony provide our two cons a way across the boarder, but the sheriff is closing in.

"We're No Angles" is a good example of how great actors can save a movie. De Niro and Penn both do that very well. If you enjoy light comedy, De Niro or Penn; this movie is well worth your time. It is nice to just enjoy a movie for the talents of its stars with out car chases, blood bathes. and all special effects.

1-0 out of 5 stars I Never Saw The Original
I don't know anything, but I know what I like. This was Hoyt Axton's last performance on film, and for that alone, it ought to be worth a look. Demi Moore puts in a reasonably amusing performance as a single mom with a mute daughter, who will do anything to make ends meet, and the utter implausibility of the whole film makes me want to watch it over and over again for some reason. I like the grittiness of this period piece, and to tell you the truth, I laughed out loud several times (although probably at all the wrong times and for all the wrong reasons) I enjoyed this film for what it was; a decent piece of work with a lot of good character actors, an otherworldly quality that intrigued me, and some familier faces that I will never see together again, on this side of the veil. Hope this helps. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
Although there are blatant references to "Lolita" (dig Alicia Silverstone in her huge sunglasses and swimsuit gazing up at Cary Elwes), "The Crush" is a suitable thriller despite being very predictable.

The premise is simple: Silverstone plays a fourteen year old who develops a crush on Elwes, who is a 28 year old newspaper reporter and has just moved into an apartment on the grounds of her family home. Elwes is dating Jennifer Rubin, and she's aware of the vibes being sent by Silverstone. But Elwes is either naive or enjoys the attention (you decide!!!) and puts himself into several compromising situations with Silverstone. Silverstone, who's clearly unstable, tightens the noose from then on, and eventually attempts to kill Elwes. The ending, also predictable, is appropriate.

This certainly isn't going to be on anyone's list of all-time best films, but it's worth owning on DVD (despite the fact that there's little that separates the VHS from the DVD). You'll enjoy popping it in every once in a while for a good scare. If nothing else, guys, you'll be very careful who you flirt with after watching this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Scream Queen Of The 90's!
Similar to the role Glenn Close played in "Fatal Attraction", Alicia Silverstone is terrifying as an obsessive teen who is "crazy" about the 28 year old living in her parent's guest house. After being told several times that she's too young for him, and finding out that he already has a girlfriend, she goes on a methodical rampage against the two. Tearing both of their lives apart. Tension builds throughout the film with various scary parts and an exciting, violent ending. Way better than "Swimfan".

4-0 out of 5 stars The Crush... True story
The movie is not only fun but a must see.. and the movie is now in my all time collection! well, I watched the movie years back but I had to recall the story of the movie and watch it again and again, as I am facing almost the same situation.. well I'm 25 and she is 15 and she has a crush on me 'no fun, trust me' and her mother (not father, like in the movie) is almost as same as Darian's father.. I've watched the movie thrice in last two days to understand few things about her moves.. I think you'd enjoy to understand the movie like i do (now) :)its fun and entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Crush
Great Fun! If I hadn't seen it on t.v., I never would have seen it anywhere else. I saw it while flipping through channels and was late to a meeting because I couldn't stop watching it, I had to see what was going to happen in the end.

3-0 out of 5 stars Watch Out!
Darian Forrester (Silverstone) is a 14 year-old Girl rapidly blossoming into a woman at a immense rate. Her IQ is above average and her eye for detail flawless. After earning himself a job working for a decidedly well thought-of magazine, Journalist Nick Eliot (Elwes) scans the neighbouring houses with a room to let. Shaken-up after practically knocking down Darian after she skated into the wheels of his arriving car, he notices that her residence has a guest house to let and after viewing the named house, snaps it up with no more then a few Ums and Errs. After a few days, Darian is smitten with the new lodger and things begin to lead themselves down the wrong path. After a kiss initiated by Darian, Nick backs off, and dismayed by his actions, warns off Darian. Skimpily clad in diminutive bikini's, provocative clothing and breath-taking body language, Darian refuses to take no for an answer and subsequent to attacking his lover, persists to abuse her welcome, with the police having to stand in within the concluding half hour.

Suffocating and thought-provoking, this a tall-tale that mirrors many a headline currently splashed on newspapers worldwide. Shapiro's direction is at times warped and the pacing does have its flaws, but yet it seems to work out and leaves you fulfilled with the end product. By far Silverstone's Best role yet, with only 'Clueless' to contend with, while Elwes's appeal is strong, and sporadically exasperating, is every now and then overruled by his 14 year-old counterpart.

A great movie with bright sets and a proficient script, this is in no way Cinema at its best, but yet a worthy edition to your home library. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Anime Drama
This is a very engaging and accessible anime drama. The plot device is great: an ex-S.A.S. instructor and part time professor, Keaton travels the globe and gets involved in adventures while working as an investigator for LLoyds of London.

No giant robots or super-powered martial artists are in this series but there is alot of realistic action. The animation is not "Macross Plus" or "Spirited Away" quality but it is very good.

Keaton's understated character should appeal to anime fans and will probably create some new ones.

4-0 out of 5 stars A true outsider
In addition to the well focused comments in the editorial description, it will be useful to say that "Master Keaton" involved some very important names on the japanese anime and manga industry that helped it become a blockbuster in his native country. First of all, the original manga author is Mr. Naoki Urasawa, well-known for his previous stories ("Yawara!", which was the base for a very successful 123-episode judo anime; "Happy", about tennis; and "Pineapple Army", a war manga). He won the very prestigious Osamu Tezuka manga award for his disturbing but superb "Monster". For "Master Keaton", he teamed with writer Hokusei Katsushika and published 12 volumes about Taichi Keaton's adventures all over the world.
In second place, the animation production house was Mad House, one of those rare anime studios that are not to blame for any anime that came out from their hands ("Trigun", "Card Captor Sakura", "Perfect Blue", "Millenium Actress", "Metropolis", "Pet Shop of Horrors", and a very large etcetera). "Master Keaton" was sure a very "outsider" project for anime. Its hero is not a teen, but a rather mature man reaching his forties. Also, he is surely not a "bishounen" (a term used in manga and anime for "beautiful boys"). The animation doesn't include remarkable effects, and though there are many action sequences (remember, Keaton is a retired SAS trainer), those do not involve espectacular explosions, frantic car chases or anything you may call "eye-popping" by modern standards. We're definitely in front of an adult-oriented series, which focuses greatly in each episode's story, bringing always a little human drama. Animation is just standard, and emphasis is obvious more on backgrounds than on characters (a lot of them is old people, maybe 50 or more, so it would be not appealing to younger viewers).
Besides this "commercial shortcomings", we are in front of a true gem of anime, one that surely won't come out again for a very long time. One detail more: in Japan, the TV series ran for 24 episodes, but demands from followers convinced the producers to make 15 more episodes that were included in the video edition as never-before-seen extras. Let's thank Mad House for taking such a risky project and ending it succesfully. The same for Pioneer USA, which has taken a similar risk and has started with a DVD edition that is up to their well-known standards. And is affordable, too: the original japanese release are up to $... for each one of 13 volumes (LD or region-2 DVD, with just 3 episodes on each one). So, this is a very great opportunity for occidental viewers to take a look at some of those rare masterpieces that television anime has produced. ... Read more

Shades of Rollerball! Director Ernest Dickerson and executive producer Wesley Snipes ponder the sport of the future and come up with... Futuresport, a combination of handball, ice hockey, and skateboard hot-dogging begun as an inner-city alternative to gang warfare and transformed into a glitzy media sensation. Dean Cain stars as the reigning Futuresport hero, a cocky glory hound who counts his cash and "popularity index" ratings with a smug grin until his narcissism costs him the championship game. As a ruthless terrorist group pushes the world to the brink of war, the suddenly altruistic Cain hatches a plan to bring Futuresport back to its roots. With the help of reporter (and former flame) Vanessa Williams and the game's creator (a rastah-inflected Snipes, who gives himself the film's best role), Cain proposes a winner-take-all game to settle the territorial dispute. Beefy former TV "Superman" Cain makes a better reformed hero than a snotty superstar and looks great in the game scenes, but Snipes steals the film with his funky turn as the inner-city guru with more on his mind than the game. Dickerson gives this TV film a handsome look and even injects a little grit into the otherwise bland screenplay, but apart from the zippy game scenes (which Dickerson films with an electrified energy), it's a familiar and rather flat bit of science fiction hokum. Footage containing violence and brief nudity has been added for home video. --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Nice Surprise
I'll be honest, like many of you Dean Cain fans (namely the women)I rented this movie because Dean is the most beautiful man alive. So I went into this movie with a very open mind. To tell you the truth, I really enjoyed the movie. It's a very cool sci-fi, sport, action movie and it's not that bad. At first, it's a little hard to follow, (especially if you're just staring at Dean), but it really makes sense. I guess the plot is a little out there, but so's the future. I mean who knows?-someday the world might be like that. It was good to see Dean play someone other than the sweet and innocent Clark Kent. He's a very talented actor who shouldn't just be remembered as Superman. Vanessa Williams was very good, playing the sassy heroine that knew how to take care of herself. A very believable character. And Wesley Snipes, the comic relief, helped the movie by adding a dash of humor to all the action. If you like, sci-fi, Future Sport is perfect for you-there is more to it than Dean Cain.

NOT MUCH OF A FUTURE FOR THIS SPORT

Y'know, I just love readin' the blurbs on the backs of video boxes, and then watching the video to see how well the presentation lives up to the praise. Unfortunately, 'Future Sport' didn't live up to its words of kindness very well; I especially got a kick out of the statement about it being 'highly original'. Since when has a sports-related flick that combines just about all the clichés and hackneyed moments you've ever encountered in sports-related flicks wrapped around a so-called 'futuristic' team sport (like duh, right?) that's a bald-faced rip-off of the Rollerball game (the original, not that awful re-make) and featuring characters that came right outta the Mad Max trilogy considered 'original'? And while we're at it, why not set it in a dystopic society, which we've only seen before in, what, a zillion sci-fi mo-pics since the classic silent film 'Metropolis' first hit the big screen? Even the most derivative Rocky sequel has less rehashed material than this load 'o' pap! Throw in acting performances that would've made 'Baywatch' and 'Walker, Texas Ranger' look Emmy-worthy in comparison, badly edited sports-action scenes, really weak trash talking, and some of the most horribly-choreographed hand-to-hand fighting scenes ever imprinted on celluloid, and you've got a show that's almost completely unwatchable, yet strangely compelling at the same time.

Starring Dean Cain as FutureSport star Jonathan E-- no wait, that was the starring character of the original Rollerball as played by James Caan. Okay, retake in 3, 2, 1. Starring Dean Cain as' umm' dang, I forgot his character's name. Which is an interesting coincidence, considering most of the rest of this mo-pic is rather forgettable as well. All right, take three in 3, 2, 1. Starring Dean Cain in one of his more notable (heh) post-Lois and Clark projects, FutureSport is proof positive the Superman curse is still alive and kickin'. And what's with co-star Vanessa Williams adding the middle initial 'L' to her marquee? Sheesh, talk about pretentious-- especially when you take into account the fact her acting wouldn't have passed muster on VIP. But the guy whose presence I can't explain for the life of me is Wesley Snipes. How the hey did they manage to corral him into executive-producing and starring in this train wreck? Was it a way for him to get out of a less-than favorable contract? Did he lose a bet? Maybe the director had compromising photos of him with some cattle? In any case, his performance as the Rastafarian inventor of FutureSport was pretty hokey. I especially enjoyed his silly attempt at a Jamaican accent, as well as his being billed as a 'special guest star'. Yeah, he's special, all right-- in the short-bus-riding sense if he's agreeing to do movies like this!

3-0 out of 5 stars No Future for this "Futuresport"
I was being kind to give this DVD a 3 rating. I was disapointed in the actors and the plot was so over-used that I fell asleep a few times. So you've got your "futuresport", a combination of hocky, rollerball, and anti-grav boards. What started out as a means of stopping street gangs from fighting has turned into a multi-million dollar world-wide event. The future holds nothing new - we still have primadona atheletes who want megabucks for doing their thing. It boils down to the good guys, lead by Dean Cain, fighting the bad guys for world domination or was it freedom? All I know is it's supposed to stop the terrorist attacks by the "freedom fighters" who want to make their point and in the meantime it will make a lot of money for somebody. Wesley Snipes plays a fading hero with a Rastaman hairdo and accent, who is supposed to have been Dean Cain's mentor, which he was, but now he's in it for the money with the bad guys. Confused yet? Just remember that the good guys always win and Good will always triumph over Evil. Hey, where's my Rum Raizon ice cream?

4-0 out of 5 stars The way of the world...
Futuresport is an electrically charged combination ice hockey-basketball game that is invented to prevent gang violence - territory disputes are settled by which team wins the game. Ten years after its world-wide exploitation, Futuresport is THE game on the planet and Tre Ramsey its #1 star. But it is only utilized as a sporting event, until Tre Ramsey gets the idea the world could return to its basic premise for the game, at least for now: settling land disputes. The land under dispute is the Hawaiian Islands, which North America wants to retain, yet the HLO - Hawaiian Liberation Organization - wants to reclaim as independent. HLO's method of liberation is through acts of terrorism, and also through the targeted assassination of the most famous part-Hawaiian in the world - Tre Ramsey - someone who has been vocally against the methods utilized by the HLO. Tre is targeted as a "traitor." The #2 target of assasination is Tre's old girlfriend, a journalist who's politically active against HLO and had originally promoted Futuresport and Tre Ramsey into prominence years earlier. The climax of the film is a North American Alliance game of Futuresport against the Pan Pacific Alliance to settle the territory dispute of the Hawaiian Islands, foregoing an all-out war. The plots and intersecting - and numerous - characters are worth watching more than once, just to make sure you get it all. If you're not paying attention, you're going to miss something. The performances are uniformly good; the technology intriguing and fun; Futuresport itself fast-paced. Vanessa Williams is the journalist, and does a fine job, but has a peculiar jaundiced look to her skin, as well as orange-tinted hair, presumably representing the super-chic style of the time. Dean Cain is Tre Ramsey, attired in casual-expensive and sporting a permanently unshaven look. The only real problem with this movie is it's too short at ninety minutes to do the characters and the complexity of the plot the service it deserves. As far as the DVD is concerned, the only extra is the trailer, which is also fast-paced and image-laden.

3-0 out of 5 stars Are you paying attention?
I am pretty much interested in technology and Dean Cain. When you combine the two, you get one great show. But whose paying attention to the plot when I was going "WoW! what a high tech gadget." and "Oh, wow! He's is sure handsome." All in all the show was okay, with two very nude female scenes, I just skipped over that part.

But half the time I wasn't even watching, just in a daze looking at that gorgeous man and noticing how it relates to "Lois and Clark. The new adventure of Superman." Oh, the twist in the plot was nice too. Dean getting killed by his best jamacian friend from down under...or not. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as Good has the first 2,but still a great movie
I found this Free Willy the worst out of the series, not because the movie was bad,it was good but there was some parts in this movie that peaple didnt like. The little kid kinda messed up the bond between Willy and Jesse. But this was still a great movie, what an ending this movie had,Willy becomes a daddy, shocking ending to a great series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bad Ending to a Great Series
Ok, this was a great movie, as all the Free Willy movies were, it is just unfortunate that they didn't know this would be the last. If they knew, I'm sure it would have been so much better. I loved the Free Willy series, and when I learned they lost their budget and there would be no more, I look at the ending of Free Willy 3 and think, "This great series is over for eternity, and the last lines were, "Well I think we should call him Max" ?". Truly unfortunate. Anyways, this flick is aimed at an older audience. There are unsuitable features in this one, unsuitable for young ones, but makes the older ones happy.

2-0 out of 5 stars They Replaced Jessie
I liked this movie but they replaced Jessie. They had This 10 year old kind of come in and try to be the hero. I mean what was so special about the first too movies is that Jessie was the only one Willy trusted and then they had this ten year old come in and all of the sudden he and Willy were special friends. They should have left it alone with that special friendship between Willy and Jessie.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars
Good movie, but not in widescreen format as advertised.

1-0 out of 5 stars ZERO STARZ!
This movie blew it. We thought the could make up in the next film, but nnnnnnooooooo! I don't want to tell you the plot because it hurts me. This film is not for kids. Killing whales, bar fights, and pranks is why 9/11 happened! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AVOID THE PLATINUM RELEASE !
I saw this movie on cable and I really liked it. I bought this dvd brand new and it was defective. I sent it back to the online retailer that I bought it from and received a new copy. The same thing happened. It was defective. My Sony home player and my Sony players in my computer gagged on it and inevitably said that the discs need cleaning (the discs were clean but, also defective). I even tried them on a cheaper Magnavox player. I made it to the first scene with the trusty old Magnavox. But, then I lost picture and sound. Buy the slightly more expensive version of this dvd. It can't possibly be more defective.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good and full of unpredictable twists and turns
I truly expected this movie to be the very definition of a "B" movie with a mediocre cast and shoddy dialog. Surprisingly the movie was a moderately good thrill ride full of twists and turns which leaves you shocked and appreciative of the thought put into the ending. I liked it alot.

4-0 out of 5 stars IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE
Patrick Muldoon sure would be a household name if everyone watched the countless straight to videos this man has made. Muldoon possesses a swarmy sexuality, and a boy next door demeanor that has placed him in several heroic type roles. In "Blackwoods" however, Muldoon is cast in a role in which his character can be questioned. Director Uwe Boll uses kinetic flashbacks to illustrate this story of a man who is held hostage by a strange backwoods family, who hold him responsible for the death of their youngest daughter. Muldoon struck and killed her with his car. The family believes he was drunk when he did it and didn't get the justice they feel he deserved. So they decide to exact their revenge?
Or wait a minute...did it happen the way Muldoon remembers?
This is an intriguing, enigmatic tale where nothing is as it seems. Muldoon does a great job, with some good support from Michael Pare, Will Sanderson and zany Clint Howard.
The ending is a surprise, even though you should see it coming!
Still, quite different for Muldoon and worthwhile.

1-0 out of 5 stars This disc needs to be taken off the market
I wish I could review the film itself, because it looked very promising. Unfortunately, it isn't possible because the two copies I screened were defective. Some players refused to track beyond chapter 7, others, the last 2 chapters, 19 & 20. In every case, the picture froze and broke up, making complete viewing of the film impossible. The original, more expensive release of this DVD by Velocity Home Entertainment has been reviewed on this site without technical complaints, so I'm ordering that one instead. Meanwhile, Platinum needs to take this botched budget pressing off the market.
