5-0 out of 5 stars Screwface is Dead!
You take a Jamaican druglord named Screwface and you take the funniest, laziest action star named Steven Seagal and you have ingredients to real comedy. Seagal shoots a woman in a rotten country and is ashamed to be a police officer. Hey, he shouldn't feel bad after she killed his partner. Well, Seagal goes back to America and looks for his family and friends. In town, a druglord takes advantage of children and sells them drugs. Oh, that doesn't fly with this genius. Seagal takes matters into his own hands when his niece is shot. Major bone snappage! The fight in the jewelry store is hilarious and Seagal fights Screwface in Jamaica! Eye gouges and decapitation. Distasteful! But, wait, there's another Screwface in Los Angeles, they're twins. What a plot twist. "Screwface is dead, so you can get the freak out of town!" Seagal gives this brother more pain with a back snap, gouge, and thrown down an elevator shaft. It was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen. Pure comedy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seagal at his best
Marked for Death is by far Steven Seagals best film. John Hatcher(seagal) has just retired from the Drug Enforcement Agency after his partner dies on a case. When a Jamaican Drug Posse marks seagals family for death, seagal realizes that he needs to pay them back, with interest. Seagal, teamed up with a jamaican cop and an old friend of his, to teach the posse that there's just some families that you don't mess with. If you don't like car chases, snapped arms and heads being chopped off, this movie isn't for you. Its's to bad they don't make action movies this great anymore.

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT REALLY ALL THAT GOOD
A FORMER COP [STEVEN SEAGAL] GOES AFTER SOME LOCAL JAMAICAN DRUG DEALERS. THIS WAS AN UTTERLY DISSAPOINTING FILM, BEING THAT ''ABOVE THE LAW'' WAS SO GOOD. HAS THE USUAL SHOOTOUTS AND THE USUAL CAR CHASES THAT ONE WOULD EXPECT TO FIND IN A STEVEN SEAGAL MOVIE. DIEHARD SEAGAL FANS [WHICH IS WHAT I AM, TO A CERTAIN EXTENT] MIGHT LIKE IT. OTHERS SHOULDN'T EVEN WASTE THEIR TIME.

5-0 out of 5 stars The last of his (non-Under Siege) good ones
As someone else said (probably on this website), S Seagal probably became a parody of himself faster than any other action hero of our time. Other than the "Under Siege" pairing, Marked for Death was, to my mind the last really great movie he did.

It is Seagal at his brutal best. As the Editorial Review says, he plays a disillusioned former DEA agent, who comes back home), to find his neighborhood being ravaged by a group of Jamaicans and their drug trade. Seagal cleans it up the situation as only he could: blasting a handful of the bad guys away with pistol and shotgun, and beating the rest savagely.

This movie, like his premier "Above the Law", has some of his technically most proficient Aikido, particularly after he crashes his car into a department store and then takes on about four adversaries in a randori, or challenge of one defender against multiple attackers.

Of course, it would not be some shattering news to reveal here that in the end, Seagal prevails over the leader of this drug posse, nicknamed Screwface (the name comes from a Bob Marley song). They fight with swords, bottles, and ultimately hands. But the climactic fight is equally brutal as it is final.

It was not nominated in the "Best Movie" category. It is not particularly thought provoking. But what it is is an action movie. And as that, it is worth the price of admission.

5-0 out of 5 stars You want arms being snapped in two? Right here.
This was Seagal's third film, I believe, and he was really in his 'prime'. This flick has the kind of bone-crunching action you demand from the genre.

Seagal plays a cop taking on some scary Jamaican drug lords. They're into voodoo or something, Seagal gets his Mustang wrecked, and before the end, a lot of arms and wrists are going to be snapped like so many twigs.

What has happened to Seagal? In this movie his fight scenes are pretty good. They had perfected the Seagal film formula by this point and would follow it with the equally brutal Out for Justice. This was before the filmmakers had to extensively doctor the fight scenes with camera tricks like fast motion and telephoto lenses in order to disguise the fact that Seagal had become old, fat, and completely out of shape.

Seagal's last few films have gone straight to DVD and they are absolutely appalling, yes, even for a Seagal film. Marked for Death is a actually good for what it is. Compare it to something like Ticker or Out for a Kill and see how the mighty have fallen. Seagal's IHOP excesses have destroyed him. Watch Marked for Death to see him in all of his bullying, macho glory. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great and ultra gory sequel
Return of the Living Dead 3 is a large departure from the other two films in the series. Where as those two films combined dark humor and zombie horror, director Brian Yuzna (Bride of Re-Animator) goes all out with some of the goriest zombie action to see release in this country. When a young girl (Melinda Clarke) is killed in a motorcycle accident, her boyfriend uses the experimental facility where his father works which re-animates corpses to bring her back to life. However, when she comes back, she's got a hunger she's never had before, and it's like the old saying goes; a girl's gotta eat. The acting is surprisingly solid, with Clarke being almost perfect as the zombified girl who still loves her boyfriend. The gore is extremely realistic and there is loads of it, so be warned; gorehounds will find plenty to love here. All in all, this is one low budget horror film that is definitely worth checking out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sequel!
This is the second sequel to the 1985 cult horror spoof "Return of the Living Dead", part II was ok but seemed like a rehash of the original but this one is totally original.

It's about a couple of young adults who are lovers, the boy's girlfriend gets hurt in a motorcycle accident and dies, the boy has a father who works in the military with a experimental corporation that brings the dead back to life. The Boy decides to take his girlfriend to a lab using an experimental gas to bring her back to life but it works, unfortunately she is a kinky Zombie that eats brains and turns people into brain-munching ghoul.

Very entertaining and extremely gory sequel with great make-up effects, a very sexy undead girl, and original story that makes this a must see for fans of Zombie flicks. Watch this movie in the unrated uncut version with extra gore, not for the squeamish!

Also recommended: Resident Evil, Ghosts of Mars, Return of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, Dead Alive, From Dusk Till Dawn, Re-Animator, Aliens, Lucio Fulci's Zombie, Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Phantasm, Bride of Re-Animator, Scanners, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, City of the Living Dead, Nightmare City, Hellraiser, Toxic Avenger, Bad Taste, An American Werewolf in London, Idle Hands, Total Recall and The Beyond.

3-0 out of 5 stars "It's not Romero"
Im almost sad to say I didnt like this one, probably because it wasnt directed by George. Yuzna was great with the Re-Animator and such but this movie was, I think the word is "New." Im a 70's 80's zombie films kinda guy. I think MAJOR Producers should stop after Resident Evil: 2 comes out. Excluding the Independent films. This movie had some pretty good scenes with that dudes head and spine getting ripped out, and the intro was pretty good with the experiments and the zombie revolting and killing the doctors, but it still wasnt Romero.

1-0 out of 5 stars Really Disappointing!
This film is a complete departure from the 1st two "Return"
movies. Whereas the first two movies in the series are fun
spoofs of the genre, this film attempts to compete with
the Romero films as a legitimate addition to the dead
series. It fails in that respect miserably. Don't waste
your time or money on Return of Dead 3.

5-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Living Dead 3
The third part of Return of the Living Dead is one of the best to me.
In this movie a teenage couple gets in a motorcycle accident and the boy's girlfriend dies.So he goes to where his father works and uses the 2-4-5 trixon to bring her back but it goes wrong she starts having cravings for things she does not eat and she starts eating people's brains. But the only thing keeping her from eating him is their love. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars ROAD KILL
Directed by John Dahl, previously best known for Red Rock West and The Last Seduction (the movie that launched Linda Fiorentino's career), the ironically titled Joy ride is very much a homage to the seventies Spielberg movie Duel but rather than being just a cheap rip-off Joy Ride is in fact a very entertaining, genuinely scary edge of the seat ride, which proves that you don't need a big budget to make great movies.

THE PLOT: The film's instantly likeable hero, Lewis, played by Paul Walker (The Fast and The Furious) a scholarship student at Berkeley, buys a battered 1971 car so he can pick up Venna (Leelee Sobieski), who he has a major crush for, from the University of Colorado and drive her to the East Coast for summer vacation. However, on the way he unexpectedly has to pick up his irresponsible older brother Fuller (the always excellent Steve Zahn) who's in a Salt Lake City jail on a drunk-and-disorderly charge. During the journey Fuller buys a cheap CB radio and involves Lewis in an unpleasant practical joke at the expense of a truck driver with the CB handle 'Rusty Nail' but they find themselves in fear for their lives when old Rusty turns out to be a psychopath who takes a violent dislike to them. From then on, they themselves become the objects of the unseen Rusty Nail's revenge. After several hair-raising encounters, they resolve not to tell Venna of their adventures when they pick her up at the clean, well-lit Colorado campus.

It would be easy to criticise Joy Ride (known as Road kill in the UK). Its premise is hardly original and its reliance on a CB radio as a plot device harks back to the seventies, rather than the present day when everybody (except in this movie) has a cell phone. However, Joy Ride is actually a stunning success due to its faultless direction, which creates Hitchcock like suspense and provides many heart stopping moments. The script is excellent too combining and balancing humour and horror in equal measures, often hinting at violence that is not actually seen and providing nervous moments of humour whilst avoiding corniness. As for the three leads they are perfectly cast with Paul Walker, minus the blonde beach boy locks he sported in The Fast and the Furious, making a good fist of the part of the boy from the wrong side of the tracks in love with the girl from the right side of the tracks played by the equally impressive Leelee Sobieski (Deep Impact). Steve Zahn (Out of Sight) as the misfit brother Fuller is also excellent and he steals many of the scenes with witty one-liners but ultimately this is a movie whose strength lies in the sum of all its parts. Cheaply made it shows that its not big budgets that make great movies its talent and imagination. Here's hoping there's a sequel! Four stars, well merited. ****

5-0 out of 5 stars Develop a Phobia for Big, Black Trucks and Roadside Motels..
This is a brilliantly directed and scripted, 5-star thriller. The casting of the 3 leads - Steve Zahn, Paul Walker and Leelee Sobieski is perfect as they deliver wonderful performances and share great screen chemistry.

I can't remember the last time I had so much "fun" at the cinema. The suspense in "Joy Ride" is taut and heart-pounding while the laugh moments are also plentiful. The movie's about the danger that 2 brothers, Fuller (Zahn) and Lewis (Walker) get themselves into after their "seemingly" harmless prank on their car's CB radio goes horribly wrong when their "victim", a truck driver (who calls himself "Rusty Nail"), decides to get even with them. Watching this movie was great fun! Loud LAUGHS from the cinema audience during the funny scenes and SCREAMS from the female (mainly) audience during the "scary" moments testify to how effective the movie is. To me, one of the most hilarious scenes is the one where Fuller goes to the rescue of Venna (played by Sobieski) who is being harassed by a bunch of men in a motel bar.

The villain, "Rusty Nail" has the scariest voice! Listening to him talk on the CB radio ("Candy Cane... I'm looking for Candy Cane...") is enough to send a chill down your spine. You'll have to watch the movie to know whether he does show his face or not in the end.

This movie ends with a "delicious" twist.... to pave the way for a "Joy Ride 2", maybe?

I don't know if this type of movie is termed "black comedy" but trust me, the laughs and thrills are first-rate all the way. Just fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the Joy Ride!

2-0 out of 5 stars Just ok
Since Paul Walker was in it(and I hate his annoying voice and wooden acting) I was expecting this to be a total disaster. To my surprise it wasn't as terrible as I anticipated. Although if you ask me whether it was a good movie, the answer would be no. Paul(and his baby blue eyes) goes on the road trip along with his dimwitted jailbird of a brother and hot(in producer's opinion) chick that he wants desperately. On the way, they decide to play a joke on some trucker who gets pissed off and starts stalking them. Somehow this trucker(whose face we never see) knows everything about them and he appears at the most unexpected moments. Instead of going to the cops, like any normal people, the characters spend the movie trying to run away and outwit this fathom. I thought it was supposed to be suspense thriller but this is definitely "Friday 13th" kind of movie(and I'm not found of those). Paul Walker didn't stink as badly as he did in the "Fast and the Furious", but this LeeLee Sobievski who was playing the "hot" chick is one bad actress(and skanky looking one at that. I suspect the producers had the beer goggles on when she was selected for this role). However, if you compare this film with some of the other crap I've been watching lately, this can almost be called a masterpiece

3-0 out of 5 stars bad ending
This movie is pretty suspenseful, but the last thirty seconds might just be the worst ending in cinima history, or maybe rusty nail has a clone.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm not your Candycane!
This was one suspenseful movie! Two of my friends sat me down to watch this one, and I was very happy with it.

The plot has been summarized before, so I will avoid that. This movie is very much a tale of suspense that you will keep thinking about for days. Paul Walker and Steve Zahn do really well in this film, but I'm not crazy about Leelee Sobieski. I've seen her in other films, and her acting is the same in all of them, lukewarm.

The first half of the movie is really good and you can really get into it, then Leelee's character is introduced and it starts to drag. This is a good movie to watch with a bunch of friends sitting there yelling at the screen.

The alternate endings are also very fabulous. Check them out if you haven't seen them yet. ... Read more

Brandon Lee’s penultimate picture isn’t much on paper--a dour college kid, bitter over his activist father’s death in Tiananmen Square, is targeted by a Chicago mobster after witnessing a gangland killing and reluctantly joins forces with brooding, obsessed cop Powers Boothe--but then who was watching this for the story? Consider this his screen test for the superior The Crow. Lee bites off bad dialogue with surly sneers, swaggers through scenes with the confidence of a movie veteran, and moves... well, his moves are the real reason to see the film. Nick Mancuso has a good time as the weasely mobster getting sloppy in his desperation, and Powers plays the father figure with less conviction than sheer tenacity, but Brandon Lee is the star-in-the-making of this production. This, unfortunately, is no star vehicle, but it provides enough bone-crunching, butt-kicking martial arts action for any action junkie. --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Make way for Mr. Lee!!
RAPID FIRE is definitely a kung fu movie classic, and right now, my favorite Brandon Lee movie (Just about to watch the rather under-recognized LASER MISSION.) Brandon Lee stars as college student/martial arts master Jake Lo, who refuses to join Chinese Democracy activists, since his father was murdered for the very same cause. Lo becomes entangled in a web of diaster when mafia druglord Antonio Serrano (Nick Mancuso) murders the chief distributor of a competing drug lord Kinman Tau (Tzi Ma, from RUSH HOUR)to get ahold of his drug trade. Lo has the unenviable misfortune of witnessing the whole damn thing and must join forces with crusty chicago cop Ryan (Powers Booth) and his beautiful partner (Kate Hodge) to take down both Serrano AND Tau. Once the action starts, it doesn't stop. I think the climatic battle between Brandon and asian bad guy Al Leong (whose had duels with guys like Jean-Claude Van Damme and Bruce Willis) is this movies best and easily the best in '92, and finally one of the best ever. One of the quite abundant brawls even occurs on the chicago el, where Brandon and his opponent mostly just use steel rods as their weapons. A kung fu flick to be cherished by kung fu fans, as well as Brandon Lee fans all over the world. Buy this one right now, you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Among the martial arts/action elite
No matter how many times I watch this movie, it never seems to get old. Combining elements of American action shoot 'em ups with the chop-socky combat of the Hong Kong martial arts genre, "Rapid Fire" seems bent on squeezing as many action sequences as possible into its brisk 90-minute running time. However, in between fight scenes, the writers and director actually take time for little things like plot and character development, which are too often lacking in martial arts flicks (can you say Steven Seagal)? The main characters, Brandon Lee's reluctant crime fighter and Powers Boothe's grizzled cop, actually have some beliefs and internal conflicts that motivate their actions. And on top of that, there are some actors in this movie who can actually act! In the action department, the fight scenes are extremely well done, devoid of camera tricks, multiple angles, fancing directing, or any other gimmicks that distract from the fight scenes themselves. It seems the makers of this film knew what they had in Brandon Lee and let him and the other actors carry the action on their own, a decision that definitely paid off. Highly recommended for those who want a little brains to go with their action.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lee blazes!!!
Lee blazes and fights away in this sometimes good action movie but Lee is the glue that holds this up...remember the fridge part in the movie..yeah, yeah....though Lee sprouts some crappy dialouge you just cant get enough of his beautiful baby face..yes I said that...I highly recommened THE CROW because its his best and last work ever..though if you rent SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO starring him and oppisite sucky Doplh Lundgren..somethings wrong with you

5-0 out of 5 stars BRANDON LEE IS [GREAT]!!!
Brandon Lee is one of the best martial artist of all time and in this movie he just demonstrate that, this movie is awesome!!!.I also want to say that my DVD dosn't have the disc deffect people are talking about and don't freeze in any part of the movie. I also wnat to recomend SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO and the most brilliant movie of all time THE CROW!!! ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good movie......Disc defects!
Well, I just got my order of Rapid Fire today and just like some of the customers who posted an interview, I too am having slight problems with the disc. Actually, just 1 minor problem. It freezes in the middle of the fight in the bar just before Brandon fights the big man. I don't how it's possible for many people to have this same problem with different 'Rapid Fire' DVD discs. I thought it was either the disc or my DVD player. Luckily, I came here to and found out that I'm not the only one with this disc defect. I guess the company that made the Rapid Fire disc are the ones responsible(manufacture defect). Please correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

I've already found out from other people that they have returned their Rapid Fire disc to replace it with the same copy and still they have the same problem. I won't even bother returning it after finding this out.

Another problem I experience is the poor quality sound. I have Rapid Fire on tape. Actually, my dad recorded it on a tape in EP(extended play) when I was little and to this day the sound comes out better than the one on DVD. When I say that, I mean that in my tape, a punching sound can be heard and felt better than the one on DVD. The sound on DVD(gun shots, punches, etc.) was toned down a bit. I also have some other movies on DVD where some sounds cannot be heard or were toned down whereas on VHS, the sound effects are better heard.

Does anyone know why the "pause" happens in the bar fight? I once tried to fast forward it but it froze and nothing happens. I even tried to rewind, press stop, and even push the OFF button on my DVD player and it still wouldn't do anything. It completely froze my whole DVD player....then after 5 seconds it turned off cause I pressed the OFF button. Reminds me of my computer everytime it freezes. I guess it's because I have to fast forward right BEFORE it freezes, NOT WHILE it is frozen. Anyone here ever tried that?

Other than that, the movie was good. I've always like this movie and Brandon Lee is amazing. It's just that damn defect though that ruins my interest in watching the movie on DVD. Damn, now I have to resort to my VHS version, which I don't mind but the problem is, my VHS player isn't working at the moment. Heheh.

Well, that's it. Someone please respond back if you are in the same position as I am. Thanks! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good subject, lousy implementation, worse than the 1st.
I have to ask some of the people who RAVED about this movie if they actually were awake during the whole thing...

The computer generated graphics can not compare to real whales, sorry. I'm a big fan of computer generated images, but not this time.

The story is stretched to levels of disbelief that I didn't believe imaginable.

It's not horrible, but it's not as good as the first movie.

Kids will love it more than adults, that's for sure.

The subject matter is great. I love a good eco/bio movie any day but it could have been done better.

The little bit of budding romance was actually done reasonably well.

Net: I own it, only cuz the wife bought it. I wouldn't have. I've seen it twice, but other than that, it's tough to get through it without laughing. I know, I'm probably much too critical on this one, but hey, sometimes ya just gotta say "YO."

You might want to rent it before you think about buying it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Adventure Home Brings It Home!
Sure, everyone is going to make fun of Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home because everyone thinks Willy got home, right? No way! This movie is way rad, better than the original. Although it is a bit predictable (and silly), it has a strong plot, young love, that same 'save the whales' message, the cute Jason James Richter, and real suspense at the end. We learn that an older, girl-crazy Jesse (Richter) has a little brother (Elvis) that must come stay with the Greenwoods (Annie and Glen, Jesse's foster family) after Jesse's biological mom dies. You'll probably remember that in Free Willy Jesse was looking for his mom. Anyway, they all go camping and visit Randolph (the Native American guy that worked at the Whale Park and helped to free Willy). Jesse sees Willy for the first time in years (calling him with the harmonica tune from the original) and meets Nadiene, Randolph's God-daughter. She shares a love of orcas, and all is well until there is a terrible oil spill threatening Willy and his family. But thats not all! Feeling neglected, Elvis runs away but overhears the oil company owner's plans for Willy and his family-to catch and sell them. Then, while Jesse, Elvis and Nadiene are helping the whales to safety, the oil spill catches fire and they are nearly killed.

The acting is a little, well, over-the-top, but it's a great movie. It features another Michael Jackson song and Jesse with his harmonica and guitar. You will dig it, no matter what age. It's my favorite movie and I'm 16! (also check out Free Willy 3: The Rescue)

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the original

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Movie, the first one was sooo much better
its a follow-up. its definatly worth watching. i think the third movie was a bit much but it was nice to see what was happening to jesse. the first one was alot better. it was about the connection between an orphaned boy and whale and how they freed eachother. it was an amazing movie if you exclude the michael jackson video at the beginning but i usually just fast forward through that, no harm done. the second one is a good investment though if you loved the first one. ... It's no wonder Caught Up only garnered haphazard theatrical release in 1998. Director Darin Scott, who is credited with screenplay nods for Tales from the Hood and Sprung, tosses everything--including the kitchen sink--into this noir rip-off that borrows liberally from Chinatown and Bound but lacks the intelligent gravity and grace of the former and the stylish, tongue-in-cheek fun of the latter. Starring Bokeem Woodbine as Darryl, an ex-con who wants to go straight but who keeps finding himself in unlucky circumstances, Caught Up has laughable dialogue and terrible bug-eyed over-emoting that tries to pass for acting and wastes the laconic beauty of One False Move costar Cynda Williams, who plays a femme fatale named Vanessa Dietrich (honest!). Vanessa wraps Darryl around her little finger and embroils him in a voodoo-esque drug plot that will have the viewer rolling on the floor in disbelief. Had Caught Up played its convoluted plot for laughs, it may have at least been a camp parody on the genre, but as it is, it doesn't avoid a single cinematic cliché. The DVD comes with a slew of music videos, the radio and TV spot, as well as a director's commentary track. But don't be fooled by all the goodies--they're simply a smokescreen to nudge the audience into thinking the film is important and worthy. Caught Up is a goofy mess of contradictions and implausibility. --Paula Nechak ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Must By As Cynda Williams is from my Hometown
I thought it was a very very good suspenseful movie that was a bit biazarre at times but still a good watch. I am very proud of Cynda's performance and, I am amazed at her rapid growth as an actress. Good Flick...........

1-0 out of 5 stars A REALLY HORRIBLE MOVIE
This might be the most terrible movie ever made. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXTRAORDINARY SUSPENSE AND THRILLS!!!
It is truly amazing how someone can be 'Caught Up' in someone else's stupidity and Woodine should have realized that after getting out of prison. But instead, he continues to be caught up in lust, love and money. This was a GREAT movie all the way through. Rent it, buy it, just see it!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent film-noir!
This one is a film lovers treat! Hip updating of classic film-noir for a modern urban audience, with a sly comic undertone. Cinematically illiterate types will find it flying over their heads, but if you've seen more than a couple of noirs, or if you like mystery and suspense, it's a real winner!

1-0 out of 5 stars If you like wasting your time...
Then this movie is for you! I rented this movie hoping to see entertaining performances from Tony Todd, Bokeem Woodbine, and Michael Duncan (Bear from Armageddon) and my god, did I regret it! Tony Todd has a limited role, Woodbine can't carry a movie as a lead, and Duncan was in the movie oh, about...1 second! Very disappointed with this one!! ...
