5-0 out of 5 stars COMMENDABLE MOVIE
It's ironic that in this 1999 film. the Twin Towers remain standing after the devastating earthquake that tumbles the powerful city to its feet. A t.v. movie originally aired on NVC, AFTERSHOCK is directed well by Mikail Solomon and has a fine cast. The script is typical vignettes of several people and how they deal with the quake, but it is well written and performed, and adds the requisite human touch to the film. The overall acting is very good: Tom Selleck as the disgruntled fire chief who is having an ongoing political battle with Mayor Charles S. Dutton; Jennifer Garner as a ballet wannabe who meets up with a Russian cabby; Sharon Lawrence is very good as a mother whose carelessness rendered her little boy an invalid; Lisa Nicole Carson as an up and coming lawyer who gets an alleged murderer off the hook only to doubt his innocence; Cicely Tyson as the feisty mayor's mother who turns a street kid into a young man; and many actors whose names I can't recall who did a fine job in the storyline.
The earthquake sequence is devastating and very convincing. The movie is one of those "feel good" movies, that works.
Not your average made for TV fare.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Big Apple can have the big shake
If you are in any doubt as to how good this film is, then ask yourself the question "why are people discussing the scientific fact behind the storyline?" The special effects are more than convincing and you really do get the feeling that you could be watching an earthquake in progress. If anyone out there questions the possibility of earthquakes in Manhattan, then maybe you should refer to the following ...I live in the United Kingdom, where earthquakes can not happen, tornados never happen and the possibility of hurricanes is "laughable" as one 1987 forecaster said. In 1987, we had a hurricane, in 1998 we had tornadoes and this year, we suffered a minor earthquake. Never say never.

5-0 out of 5 stars Earthquakes will get you!!!
Okay so my title sounds like some kind of horror movie but who cares. As many people have writen in their previews that earthquakes don't happen in New York. Survey Says... ERRRRRRRRR!
Earthquakes can happen anywhere! Okay so manhatten hasn't had an earthquake for a while that doesn't mean that there's a switch to turn earthquakes on or off in New York. So Earthquakes happen in California more often. It's because they lie on a huge fault line. Earthquakes have happened in North Carolina and Missouri that doesn't mean New York is safe. And although September 11 was bad that doesn't mean that god will suddenly protect New York from Earthquakes because of Two Towers Collapsing. Earthquakes can hit New York and they will. Same with Canada last year Toronto had a 5.2 Earthquake! Anyway this movie is great and the special effects are A W E S O M E! (P.S i'm not some science geek). Defintaley worth 5 stars

4-0 out of 5 stars Twin Towers Rock Before 9-11
As an avid sci-fi/action genre maven who likes special effects, I was very surprised that a low budget movie did so well in cinematography. A well written and acted script, and very good special effects lends some credibility to having a powerful earthquake in a relatively low risk zone. It was eerie seeing the Trade Center again (as so many movies do), suffer damage other than terrorist driven. The main complaint about the DVD is that it is not widescreen. Being a TV movie, one would not expect widescreen, but the jewelcase description says "formatted to fit your TV", thus it leads one to believe that a widescreen exists. Still, I enjoyed the film and actually believe the special effects to be better than in "Earthquake".

4-0 out of 5 stars AFTERSHOCK - thoroughly enjoyed -- great surprise!
I enjoyed the VHS version and was greatly surprised - and pleasantly so - when I discovered the DVD had a more complete version of the movie -- I really liked the interaction between Tom Skerritt and Charles Dutton's characters -- Action was nicely paced and the characters were great to follow in their individual story lines - a great blending of characters -- loved the ending -- really need to see it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Olsen Twins Best Movie Yet
Some people say that Winning London is the Olsen Twins best movie yet, that would be me. In this movie of course they BOTH have to fall in love. In this movie Mary-Kate and Ashley are actually somewhat smart and for the first time they are not exactly alike. Like that Ashley's hair has all thses kinks in in it now and that their personalities are totally different. Chloe, played by Mary-Kate, is smart and only worried about winning the Modal U.N. competition. She likes to shop and hang out with boys, but her life doesn't depend on it. Riley, played by Ashley, is exactly the opposite. She is worried about how she looks and she is always shopping and only joined the Modal U.N. team to get the attention of her crush Brain, played by Brandon Tylar. Brain is popular and cute. He is the star running-back of the Lakeview High's football team. He only joined the Modal U.N. team to put on his collage reassume. Dylan is the opposite of Brain. Dylan, played by Eric Jungmann, always has his video cam and is filming everything. He is dorky and out of the group with is personality. Rachel, played by Rachel Roth, is like Dylan in many ways. They are both down lower on the popularity scale. Rachel is smart and focused in her work, but she also knows when to stop, unlike Chloe. Chloe runs in to this English guy named James Browning, played by Jesse Spencer. And the rest of the story I beat you can guess from other MKA movies.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst Mary-Kate and Ashley Movie YET!!!!
well, im uasully critical of the olsen twins. But when there series came out(so little time) i thought winning london might be okay.BOy was i wrong! The acting is horrid, and the whole plot is stupid! If u dont enjoy girls running around london shopping and listening to tycno music in the backround this movie isnt for u.The characters Riley and Chloe Lawerence(Ashley and M-K)have the same names from the tv series!cant these girls think of something original? This movie isnt for kids under 10 eigther cause there was way too much kissing action in this movie(in an air vent and on a ship)I was really suprised that so many people gave it 4 or 5 stars!cant you guys see bad talent in this movie?theres so many better Mary-Kate and ashley movies-such as-passport to paris, billbourd dad,our lips are sealed, toul+trouble,or to grandmothers house we come-i havnt thought of this befor but those movies are 5 stars to winning londons 2 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oh no, please, stereotype Brits! You know you want to...
Oh dear Lord, yet another movie that stereotypes Brits. Yes, we must all be rich and own large expanses of land and oh, yeah, we must ALL live in London. If I were one of those poor guys, I would be severely tempted to mug Mary-Kate and Ashley, which is far more likely. An unoriginal movie, which is really sad. I am quite sure there is someone out there willing to write an original plotline for these two and they might just refrain from ruining it. But really...isn't it funny how American's still think us English are completely up ourselves? We're not! Really! And I, for one, do not own half a county and have an incredibly rich relative. I'm not that offended at being constantly depicted as wealthy, neither are my mates, but, hmm, if you're going to put it in the title, couldn't you at least research the place a bit...?

4-0 out of 5 stars Winning my vote
Winning London is a well-done children's movie with some glowing scenes. While the girl-meets-boy theme is, as always in an Olsen twins' movie, included, this movie is not so focused on it.

The main point of the story is this: go to London to win a competition.
The underlying stories that I love are these: a boy growing up and standing up for himself (the Peter Pan aspect), and a girl who learns and grows up (to be less competitive). These things really made the movie for me. A little bit of culture and comedy made me smile, and a somewhat more grown-up theme (than usual) for a twins' movie kept my interest.
While there are very predictable scenes and sometimes annoying parts, the movie is worth seeing.

In the end, the group doesn't so much "win London", but the each character wins a discovery of themselves and a new view on life. In this way, it wasn't the competition that made them grow so much as their experiences.

5-0 out of 5 stars Winning London
Mary-Kate and Ashley are really good actresses and all of there movies rocks.I like this movie because I do studys on London and it is really cool to see 2 things that I like in one place! So I think that is a really interesting movie. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars THE SEVENTH FLOOR
It's always good to see beautiful Brooke Shields in action and in an excellent thriller too.
The DVD has a bare bones menu of the type I have seen with soft core films

4-0 out of 5 stars For Steven Bauer fans only
This is the original Simitar DVD release of "Stranger By Night." The picture and sound quality is excellent, though there are no extra features, just the chapter index, which is nice.I don't have the new "collector's edition" on DVD, hopefully someone will review this and let us know if its worth getting.William Katt gives an excellent performance, but the picture belongs to Steven Bauer, who is always great to watch. Fans will be happy to know there's another steamy Bauer nude scene of his along with Jennifer Rubin.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Value! 1 Great Movie! All Bad Quality :-(
Stranger By Night - Awful Movie/Good KATT!STRANGER BY NIGHT is an illogical endeavor by all counts, yet it has a spectacular supporting performance by -- of all people -- actor William Katt (who was the title character in the TV series THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO). Playing a libidinous, extroverted detective, Katt gives his scenes some feral kick, and he actually gives the illusion that you're watching a real movie. (It's sort of the effect Mickey Rourke elicited in his brief role in 1981's monotonous BODY HEAT.) However, this movie should be titles "Movie of the week", and be airing weekly on TNT's Dinner and a Movie.

Seventh Floor - This film is very well acted (yes, even the notoriously bad Brooke Shields pulls off an almost flawless performance), well written, and has amazingly well done special effects. The whole movie is centered around Kate (brooke), who recently has become widowed, and is left with the pain of her loss, and the bills. She does own 1/3 of an advertising firm, where the other 2/3 pays her out and forces her to leave. She finds the love of her life, who rents an apartment in the building she was left stuck with. Well....everything turns upside down....THis movie is a must see.

**These 2 DVDs were produced when DVD technology first became available a few years back. The quality of the DVDs is bairly better than VHS tapes, however, if you are interested in seeing the Seventh Floor, you might as well pick up this set for 1.00 more than that film is on its own. ...
