5-0 out of 5 stars Who Ever THought of This Film was an Insane Genius
Whomever came up with the concept for this film needs very serious mental evaluation; A love story about a guy with scissors for hands? But perhaps we will put that aside for now becasue the movie is simply stupendous. Edward ScissorHands is one of my all time favorite movies, I assume this goes for many others as well, becasue i have never found someone who didnt like this movie. It appeals to the strange geek inside us all who just wants to be accepted for what he is. For an overview of the movie read the summary amazon has provided, i will talk only about the dvd. THe extras are quite neat with commentary tracks, production art, and best of all some old Burton shorts. Vincent is a great clayamtion thing about a kid trying to be vincent price, it reminded me of beetlejuice, visually. Frankenweenie is kinda dumb and boring, but its about a kid who brings his dog back to life. THe image clarity is fantastic, as is the sound on this disc. It has some really cool animated menus too. So go buy it. You might wanna see it first though becasue it is pretty strange. Bottom line is if you like Burton films, you will love this one. (I still have a little trouble seeing that kid from the breakfast club as a bad guy, but whatta gonna do?)

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic DVD, even better movie
Edward Scissorhands is quite simply the best fairy tale never told. This is Tim Burton in his eccentric prime, and his presence is palpable in every arena of this beautiful and personal film. The inventive art direction is perhaps the most memorable aspect of that presence, most notably in the pastel palette that covers everything from the ingenius solid-color costumes to the quaint neighborhood/town our characters inhabit.

The genius of this movie is more far-reaching than that. Everything fits seamlessly together--from Danny Elfman's quirky score to Stefan Czapsky's meticulous camera work to an entire cast full of nuanced performances... the list goes on and on. While this film's acting gem is Diane Weist in the role of the sweet and overly altruistic mother, Johnny Depp plays the titular role in a beautifully understated performance. Similarly, Winona Ryder wonderfully (and blondly) embodies young beauty and Alan Arkin turns in a comedic yet touching performance as the sometimes-overbearing father. The ensemble cast is flawless, complementing the quirky but ultimately realistic tone.

Perhaps the best aspect of this movie is that it achieves its goals with amazing subtlety--the overt themes of "being different", family, and (let's not forget) love are constantly driven into cliché these days, but Edward Scissorhands accomplishes it all with a snip, not a stab.

This 10th Anniversary Edition DVD is everything this movie deserves--insightful commentaries from Tim Burton AND Danny Elfman and an interesting featurette, along with the concept art, trailers, TV Spots, and scene selection we've all come to expect. (The Interactive 3-D Menus are priceless!)

This is just one of those positively timeless, life-affirming movies that belongs in everyone's collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars A true work of art!
This has certainly got to be one of Burton's most imaginative creations. I can't remember a movie be that puzzlling, and yet so interesting and fun. Only Jonny Depp could prouduce such a voice, and performance. And that hair! Well, that was just the final icing on the cake. Let's face it. It's not easy to act the part of a lonly anodroid, and especially one that looked on with curiosity one moment and hated the next. Horror king, Vincint Price does a good job too as Edward's maker. Who is despreat for companionship. I laughed, I cried, then I laughed some more. All in all, this is not that bad of a movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Movie
I first saw this movie not so long ago and I fell in love with it. It is a beautiful story with very sad moments as well as exciting ones. Burton and Depp make a great team. This is one of the most moving movies I have ever seen. It tells the story of Edward (Depp), a person created by an inventor (Vincent Price)who passed on just before he had a chance to amputate Edward's scissorhands. Edward lived alone in a castle until sweet-hearted Avon lady Peg Boggs(Dianne Wiest)comes and takes him to her home to live with her family. A must see for Tim Burton fans and anyone who enjoys a magical time watching a movie. I have recently bought this DVD and I love it. I give Edward Scissorhands two big thumbs way up and 100 stars. I hope my review has helped you.

5-0 out of 5 stars masterpiece
i just realised that "Edward Scissorhands" is one of my favourite films. it has so much power. Tim Burton's storytelling, it is magnificent. his imagination is so great. the way he portrays his characters is so unique. every character is very distinct. like characters in his other works: Jack Skellingon, Ichbod Crane, Edward Bloom, Betelgeuse. now let's talk about the acting. johnny depp was magnificent. you could sense his emotion, even though he barely talks, as he portrays a lost, innocent, confused child. his make-up is excellent too. yes, he does look like a freak. but he looks good. and Winona Ryder. she's such a good actress. and can you say "pretty?" and oh! the set design and cinematography. the use of colour to expose the contrast between the two worlds. the pastel versus the dark castle. and the town! oh my. it is a dreamland. did you know that it is an actual neighborhood in Florida? one more thing. Danny Elfman's score is superb! ... Read more

Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt dance their way through Girls JustWant to Have Fun, a glorious example of 1980s kitsch. Janey (Parker),the new girl at a Catholic high school in Chicago, dreams of becoming adancer on Dance TV. With the help of new wave hipster Lynne (Hunt), Janey enters a dance contest and gets paired with Jeff (Lee Montgomery), a rebel in spandex, and the two are soon smitten with each other. Unfortunately, they've made an enemy of a snooty rich girl, who vows totake them down. Everything about Girls Just Want to Have Fun ischeap and cheesy--it doesn't even have the Cyndi Lauper version of thetitle song--but that doesn't make it any less goofily entertaining, particularly when a debutante ball is wrecked by a bizarre combinationof punk rockers and female bodybuilders. Featuring a very young ShannenDoherty as Jeff's little sister. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The FUN of the 80's
Girls Just Want to Have Fun is an 80's classic, representing the time and culture perfectly. If you want to know what it is like try thinking of an 80's version of Center Stage and mixing it with Dirty Dancing. The movie follows Janey Glenn(Sarah Jessica Parker), who has just moved into town, as she tries out for the DanceTV contest to be a regular on the show. But as always in the 80's the parents get in the way and she has to sneak out in order to practice with her elected dance partner Jeff Malene(Lee Montgomery). As romance blossoms so does jealousy for a spoilt brat Natalie Sands(Holly Gagnier) as she tries her hardest to break the two up, to win the guy and the contest, by getting Janey into trouble with her strict folks! But who will win? Well Getting into trouble is easy, but getting out of it is all the fun! Look out for some younger versions of stars of today - Helen Hunt(Lynne Stone - Janey's new friend), Shannen Doherty(Maggie Malene - Jeff's younger "Punk" sister) & Jonathan Silverman(Drew - Jeff's annoying friend).

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible !!!
This is a fantastic movie I love this movie it stars : Shannel Doherty, Helen Hunt, and Sarah Jessica Parker . Sarah and Helen meet at a private school when Sarah and her family moves to Chicago when Janie's dad retires from the military and Janie is very interested in the show "Dance TV" and wishes to try out for an audition for a chance to become a regular dancer on the show and her friend doesn't make the cut but she does so she meets a trouble maker and she is very rich and she causes a lot of problems but Janie and her friends get even with her by crashing her party and it turs out hilarious they really do get even with her in a really good way and Janie wins the part and becomes a regular on the show!!!!!! But I would recommend any Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt fan to buy this movie!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I would be " Dancing in Heaven " with Lee Montgomery....
I really love this movie...the cast is great, the music is
phenominal. It certainly is a totally 80's experience not to
be missed. The Dance contest at the end is the greatest.....
The best part to me is that sexy Lee Montgomery....whoo hoo..what
a body...what a face:) The nice thing about the movie is no sex
and I don't recall any language..so it is family friendly...
Just a all around great movie, but don't take my word...see it
yourself.......

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this movie
I can't count the number of times I have watched this movie. It's one of those movies you can watch over and over.I have.I think that Lee Montgomery is so sexy.I also like the other famous actors and actresses in this movie, its also about dancing so that's a major plus too!!I love this movie. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Cult Film!!!
Repo Man is THE classic cult movie. It's a real original! A wacky and complex masterpiece that defies description. Emilio Estevez, in his one and only good role, is the title character, a teenage punk who lives with his hippie parents in L.A. The always brilliant Harry Dean Stanton is the veteran repo man who takes Estevez under his wing and shows him the ropes of the trade. To reveal more would be wrong, one of the many pleasures of this movie is the wild surprises and twists that the film springs on us. Let's just say the film mixes a punk attitude with bizarro science fiction, hysterical comedy, satire, a GREAT soundtrack and much more. With this film and the brilliant Sid & Nancy (another film you should see if you have'nt)Alex Cox announced himself as a great director. Unfortunately, he seemed to want to self destruct a promising career with the release of two deeply flawed but nonetheless interesting films Walker and Straight to Hell. This is a man who needs to direct again? Where is he now??

5-0 out of 5 stars Cult classic
Of all the low-budget films to come out of the Eighties, Repo Man, Alex Cox's dark cult comedy about Eighties urban sprawl and alien paranoia, is one of the better ones. Emilio Estevez stars in one of his earliest roles as Otto Parts, your modern apocalyptic teen up to his armpits in drugs, sex, and parental neglect. He soon finds a way out through Bud (Stanton), an ace repo man, who gives him a job and teaches him the ways of the car repossessing trade. The two wander through the guts of L.A. in search of a '64 Chevy Malibu, priced at 50 thousand dollars, and run into a cast of bizarre street characters: feds, girls in distress, a lobotomized nuclear physicist, and really, really dumb criminals. Estevez gives one of the best performances of his career, honing his acting skills as a punk white boy just in time for his role in Coppola's The Outsiders, released later that year. Cox, who wrote and directed the film, creates a strange but hilarious view of our culture, a brilliant satire on modern society.

5-0 out of 5 stars What the f*ck do I know?
One thing I do know is this film is a modern day masterpiece.Unlike anything made before it.A true work of art and absolutely essential to any great DVD collection.Better than Gone With The Wind.It will make you wanna go to L.A. but stay home and watch Repo Man instead.I really wish they'd release the made for TV version of it as well.Along with the high art of Richard Elfman's brilliant Forbidden Zone, Repo Man is in a class all by itself.SUPERB!

4-0 out of 5 stars not what i had expected
I was thouroughly pleased upon seeing repo man. Though i Admit it was defintitletely not what I had expected. A friend recomended the movie to me saying it was apunk rock thing, and it was actually an acurate portrayal of the punk rock lifestyle of the 80's. WHOA no way, thats the last time i trust that guy. What I did discover was a magical glowing, flying spacecar, which everyone and their mother wanted. It's brilliant, just half way through the movie it takes a twist for the strange. I'd recomend this movie to anyone. This is probably Emelio's only good performance ever so that makes the movie that much more special.

4-0 out of 5 stars "The more you drive, the less intelligent you are."--Miller
Wow, ummm....interesting. Finally something different. No, I mean this is REALLY different. About time to, cuz lately I've seen a string of bvad movies, so it's nice to see something cool and original every now and then. Otto (Emilio Estevez) is a Los Angeles punk, a loser with no direction and no role models. But he discovers a code of honor and higher purpose when he joins a select group of latter-day knights: the repo men. As a fledging apprentice, Otto slowly learns the ways of these high-caliber, overmedicated auto repossessors. And when a $20,000 bounty is placed on a mysterious missing car, Otto eludes the police, feds, religious cultists, and other repo men in a frantic search for this holy grail. Could one man's destiny lie in the back of a 1964 Chevy Malibu? For some, actually for many, this film will come of as stupid and random, but for those of us who "get" it, this is a breathe of fresh air. Using clever, if somewhat odd, story telling, this film should keep you entertained and amused throughout the entire duration of the film. I say rent first, then but. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cinema, not Documentary...
Is it full of historic inaccuracies? Sure. Is it an accurate portrayal and timeline of the events as they occured? From time to time. Was it a thoroughly intriguing journey, seen at "ground level" of what is arguably one of the most notorious "crash and burns" stories of our time? Without doubt. Did Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb accurately portray Sid and Nancy? In essence, YES. The soundtrack (provided by ex-Clash member Joe Strummer), the lighting, and settings serve to push you (I have to admit, for me sometimes unwillingly) through the fall and then plummet of Sid and Nancy. The movie was in turn serious, grotesque, cartoonish, erotic, embarassing, fascinating, and beautiful. All of it seemed appropriate. Throughout, I felt I was in a seat, right behind Sid and Nancy's, on a wild roller coaster ride with them. I just seemed inevitable that it ended the way it did. The story never leaves the rollercoaster tracks. The world just seemed to rush by faster and faster, until it is just a blur. You can't help but feel uncomfortable as you watch the lives of these two characters reduced to a hopeless,"from high to high" existence in room 100 of New York's famous Chelsea Hotel. (Watch for Iggy Pop and his wife in a quick cameo in the hallway at the Chelsea) You realize that Sid Vicious is a modern "Everyman" representing every "famous" and non-famous junkie caught in a great downward spiral. The movie provided, for me, unforgettable images. For all of the other elements, this movie is in the end a love story. These two tragic characters are left with only the deep love for each other and addiction. The love was not enough for Nancy and too much for Sid.

5-0 out of 5 stars great movie
Wonderful movie!Very hard to find in my area, unless you order online.Gary Oldman amazingly is a dead ringer (no pun intended) for Sid Vicious at the beginning (although in most of the film he looks nothing like him, except for the hair). The only I didn't like what how unclear they made his death at the end.If you don't know much about Sid,the ending is confusing. They way Nancy died was confusing, too (You can't really tell whether he stabbed her,or if she ran into the knife). But it does add mystery to the movie at the same time, which is why I rated it a 5.

4-0 out of 5 stars Anarchy in the Sid Vicious
Wow, now that is what I call a shocking film. Sid & Nancy is not so gory or grotesque as it makes you turn your head sideway. Yet through their outrageous dialogue, disturbing actions and the gut to document the most vicious lifestyle in such colorful details and tribute to reality, the movie gives viewers cold shudders like never before.

I won't leak much of the film story-wise. What I would is that Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb reenacted Sid & Nancy to near perfection. They make audience really feel their passion and pain towards each other.

Criterion Collection did an amazing job in releasing this powerful documentary film with invaluable extras. It's long out-of-print and it could be quite pricey, but it well worths it. Afterall it's just like Sid said, "What do you do with money, for instance? I can think of one thing to do with money. One thing. That' s what I do with all my money. Every half-penny of it." :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, sad, and disturbing...
God, What a movie. The story of Sid and nancy was not only pitiful, but strangely romantic. This was not easy to watch- it was disturbing and really sad, but undeniably brilliant. I would recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars a disturbing film but it has an important message
This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD version of the film.

This movie while distrubing has an important message. This film shows the devastating effects of heroin abuse in graphic detail.
We see the couple lying in bed high on heroin, completely oblivious to the danger of the fire that they started in their apartment. We see them become severly depressed and suicidal. As a Christian I find a message like this important to a film.

With regards to the graphic detail of the troubles one can liken it to the depiction of the crucifixion in "The Passion of the Christ" or the graphic depiction of radiation poisoning in the anti-war film "The day after" While some scenes I found unnecessary for the depiction, it is clear they wanted to appeal to a broader audience.

This film may offend many audiences and is certainly not for children.

The Criterion DVD has many extras including a phone interview with Sid. It also has the the infamous TV interview by Bill Grundy which led to thousands of complaints and ruined his career.

It also has 2 short films and an audio commentary track which is also good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Never Rob A Bank On You're Wedding Day!!!
Hi, I'm 13 years old!
The reason I've said that I'm 12 is it doesn't go to my age!
Anyway.......................
Best Men is one of my favourite all time movies!!!
I love the way it sought of tells the story of these young guys and a girl who is gonna marry one of them!
Even though the rest of the characters were good, I absolutely fell in love with the character of Lt. John "Gonzo" Coleman! He's a character who's. .well, he's funny without meaning to be, if you know what I mean!
If you like a film with boys, comedy, disgruntled soldiers, good soundtracks and a good script, this is the one for you!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Drew's in this movie, but barely...
I received this DVD as a gift. The person who bought this knows that I am absolutely NUTS over Drew Barrymore. Even thought Drew is on the cover her actual role in the movie is minor. Her role here is comparable to her role in "Donnie Darko." The movie does start off a bit tepid and ends with a punch. Watch and listen carefully for there are some shocking surprises. I will say that the movie is well made and engrossing. However, if you must buy this movie, buy it for the fun of watching it and not for solely for seeing Drew.

4-0 out of 5 stars a Drew fan
I bought this movie because Drew Barrymore is in it and I'm collecting all her movies. I watched it for the first time today and to tell you the truth the end was a little to sad for what I thought it was gonna be.
To quote the back of the movie:
"Hope's (Barrymore) big mistake on her wedding day was sending the groomsmen to collect her jailbird fiance Jesse (Wilson) from Prison. For on the way from the penitentiary, the best man, Billy (Flanery), decides he needs a little cash infusion from the town bank...so he holds it up! But's it's not long before all of the groomsmen are held up - when the cops surround the place! And since neither hell nor high water will stop Hope from having her day...she rushes in to join her fugitive wedding party, at the risk of spending her honeymoon - not to mention the rest of her life- behind bars."
It was a wonderful cast of Drew, Luke Wilson, Dean Cain, Andy Dick, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Mitchell Whitfield. A good description of this movie is a different kind of shotgun wedding. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Long Live Jim Kelly
This title, as bad in production value as it is, definitely ranks up there with the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. I laughed so hard at times, I nearly cried. Either they were doing this tongue in cheek, which then makes it brilliant, or it was complete schlock. Either way, it's a keeper for the library.

NOTE: I bought the VHS version thinking it would contain the edited footage, but it does not. Seems there is no fully uncut version available, because someone wrote the DVD version is edited. Ripoff.

Jim Kelly is a classic, and when he delivers the line "your credibility has reached an all time low", he is unforgettable.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THE MOVIE, BUT THEY'VE CUT IT
I have the older video copy of this and it's BAD, but fun. Looks like the newer VHS and DVD copies have been badly cut. Too bad! We need an uncut version of this on DVD! Try to find older versions and enjoy the great fights and silly crap served up with the original [***], Kelly's colorful use of language and some good old fashion sex and violence. The "G rated" version they have out on DVD is absurd.

1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the worst movie ever - but a must see!
This is singlehandedly the worst movie I've ever seen. Some movies have bad acting. Some have bad direction, bad writing, or just a bad feel. Black Samurai has all of that in spades, and just as icing, bad sound editing, and bad action scenes. Don't waste your time on this movie if you're expecting a martial arts movie on par with.. well, real martial arts movies.

What this movie is, however, is absolutely, although unintentionally hilarious. I laughed so hard my eyes watered up several times. But let's be clear: there are no jokes in Black Samurai. Black Samurai IS the joke, and I think Jim Kelly was in on it.

First of all, the title is horribly misleading. Jim Kelly, while indeed black, is no samurai. There is one scene where Kelly practices with a katana and some nunchucks, but that was apparently just to keep him sharp for later movies; they never appear again.

Secondly, for a government agent, Black Samurai is one evil dude. Even though Kelly is apparently some manner of law-enforcement official, he doesn't arrest anyone. He deals out his own brand of justice: knocking most people out, while selecting a few at random for life-altering injury. In one instance, Kelly chooses a seemingly random opponent and yells THE single most classic line in '70s film: "You never gonna walk again, sucka!", whilst snapping his spine. You cold as ice, BS.

But you don't just have bad titling or random acts of evil to glean cheap laughs from! You still have the veritable treasure trove of laughter that is the sound editing and effects!

First, the punches and kicks for some reason sound just like gunshots. Actual gunshots sound like gunshots too, which sounds confusing, but when you're watching the movie trust me, it'll be the least of your concerns.

Here's the best part: there are entire scenes complete with dialog where nobodys mouths move. Yes, really. No, I'm not making this up. There's a five minute scene where Kelly and an opponent move around sizing each other up. They're talking the whole time, but no mouths move. Maybe they're doing it telepathically. Also, apparently Kelly saw the movie after it was filmed and refused to do the dubbing for his character, hoping the movie would die, because there are several occasions where Kelly is supposed to be talking, but someone else's voice comes out.

This isn't a B Movie. This is more like an H movie. It's WAY down on the chain. I'm buying it anyway! I want to show it to my kids someday when they tell me classics like Ferris Beuller and Spaceballs suck. "...no little Timmy, THIS sucks."

1-0 out of 5 stars What a terrible film !!!!!!!!!!
First of all let me say I love Jim Kelly but this movie is just plain awful, the acting is the worst i have ever seen and even the fights not the best Jim has ever done.
I actually turned the film off half way through because I was so bored with the story line.
Thank god Jim did "Black Belt Jones" !!

2-0 out of 5 stars Black Samurai ¿ Not to be Taken Seriously
When watching this DVD all conventional expectations of standard film making (decent acting, editing, direction etc.), should be put aside. Instead this DVD should be enjoyed for what it is a schlock B - grade cult/martial arts send up that is performed with tongue firmly in cheek. "Black Samurai" is directed by Al Adamson who knows his way around low budget action fare. This film stars Jim Kelly as a wealthy agent for the government organization D.R.A.G.O.N. Kelly is lured back into action when his girlfriend is kidnapped by a group of Haitian voodoo slavers. Things do go from the sublime to the ridiculous as Kelly is pitted against a vulture, a slew of diminutive bad guys and the evil warlock Janicott (Bill Roy) all while never messing up one hair of his immaculate afro. Also, there is a scene of Kelly donning a jet-pack to sneak up on the evil doers that has to be seen to be believed. Adamson keeps things from spiraling into an incoherent mess while keeping a brisk pace. The supporting cast is odd but will be familiar to cult movie buffs including D' Urville Martin ("Black Caesar"), Felix Silla (Cousin It from "The Addams Family"), Marilyn Joi ("Kentucky Fried Movie") and tough guy Aldo Ray ("We're No Angeles"). The primary reason to watch this DVD is for the choreographed fight scenes that are done well enough and really do showcase Kelly's martial arts ability. All in all this film is not going to be remembered as great cinema but the charm of its silliness makes it enjoyable. ... Read more

I say rent first, then but. ... Read more

Description

A lacerating love story, Sid & Nancy chronicles the brief, intense attachment of two of punk's most notorious poster children, Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. Director Alex Cox balances a bleak evocation of star-crossed love with surreal humor and genuine tenderness, creating a compelling portrait of the late '70s punk scene. With brilliant performances by Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb, the film's haunting imagery and black comedy resonate long after the final frames. ...

It also has 2 short films and an audio commentary track which is also good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie!
PLOT:
This is an Independent, modern film noir about young, rookie cop Jason Bartok (played by the handsome Chad Allen) who accidently shoots his older cop partner during a shootout. He follows the orders of his injured partner to take the money from the crime sceneand give it to a beautiful Chinese woman named Linda (Bai Ling). In order to give her the money, Jason must find out who she is and track her down. BUT thats not all. Lots of twists, turns, and suspense along the way as Jason goes through a series of disturbance, questions, betrayal, romance, etc. Not a lot of action or gore, but this is an interesting movie worth watching on how the story unfolds until the end.

VISUAL:
Great cinematography--the film was mostly digitally shot, making the movie more real-life towards the viewer. The reality-style cam makes us feel like we're actually with Jason throughout the movie. The camera captures good angles of the Las Vegas city lights and carries a dark tone, especially in the beginning where we are introduced to Jason stumbling in the Las Vegas street. There are also some good shots of the desert atmosphere later on.
More to offer from this film is its original score.

TALENT:
Superb, talented acting by the two very attractive leads: Chad Allen and Bai ling. This movie alone is worth watching because of their acting. Their onscreen chemistry also comes off as very natural and convincing. They absolutely sizzle!

Just my opinion. Thanks for reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!

Danny Elfman's score is superb! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Headless body in Topless Bar is Interesting Ensemble Acting.
The Movie "Headless Body in Topless Bar is an intersting piece that employs ensemble acting. The fact that the movie takes place mainly in one local gives one the chance to get to know the individual characters instead of trying to keep up with the action. The casting is incredible, the actors were perfectly chosen for the roles. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie very much. I recommend it to any movie fan. It is a must have for any movie collector.

1-0 out of 5 stars Headless and Clueless
Those first two reviews were written by people who worked on the film, trust me. This talkfest never achieves the "edge" it so desperately seeks, and Barry's character never gets our sympathies, though he is a fine actor. The whole thing is an obnoxious drone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling!!
I could not take my eyes off of this movie once I start watching... It is not for the light of heart. You are on the edge of your seat because you are scared for the hostages and at the same time you will find yourself starting to like the hostage taker. The theme of double life is what keeps you from leaving the show. I recommend it and cannot believe this one hasn't made it in the cult favorite of every video store!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Dinner with Andre in a topless bar with a spycho killer
This movie is a smart dark comedy that combines the dysfunctional with a clever intelligent script to create a shockingly funny sleeper. In a robbery gone awry, a vulgar psychotic ex con in a frightening portrayal by Raymond Barry, tries to rob the joint. He shoots the bartender in the head and then spends the next several hour -- the movie is in real time -- playing mind games with the 6 hostages. What comes out of this is a chilling and emotionally gripping film that is alarming and difficult to endure. This challenging film will linger with you long after. I highly recommend it and can't stop wondering why this film disappeared after its theatrical release in 1995. This film was ahead of its time -- it belongs with "Happinness", "Neighbors and Friends"... It's only better as far as I am concerned, because this one you just cannot forget. Buy it, tell your video store to get it, and talk about it... ... Read more
