3-0 out of 5 stars 1OO% CHEESY but it wasn't TOO BAD!
Here's the basic plot: A pack of money-grabbing, extremely rich and attractive relatives (the Ferretti's) are trying to take over their ailing uncle's industrial empire.
The pack is led by Maurizio Ferretti (played brilliantly by Billy Zane), a rich, very savy and attractive million dollar playboy...his main goal is to take over the family's million dollar business while his Uncle Leo is dying in a hospital somewhere. And how does he plan on doing this? Black-mailing his father, sleeping w/ numerous women (for pleasure AND to get what he wants, of course) and being an all around money hungry, scheming jerk!
Lauren Hutton plays Cristina, Uncle Leo's estranged wife who seems to be the only one staying at his bedside...
Carol Alt plays the beautiful (...)/wild child/bad seed niece who can't seem to keep her clothes on or get her life on track...and Alexandra Paul plays the promiscuous, (...), seductive, cold-hearted sister in-law. The plot is okay, but aside from the characters listed above, the acting [is bad]. And even though this movie was released in 1991, the bad hair and fashion looks like something out of a late 80's movie.
Lauren Hutton looks ravishing, Billy Zane is extra-yummy, and Carol Alt is extremely pretty...even Alexandra Paul (known for the flat-chested plain jane Lt. Stephanie Holden on Baywatch) gets into the seductive-(...)-queen role rather well.
But nothing can save the cheap quality, chessy (...) soundtrack, blah acting, and bad ending. If you have a hour or so to kill and don't mind seeing Billy Zane sleep w/ a bunch of women, including his cousin, his sister in law, and his dad's mistress or watching a bunch of rich spoiled people plot, whine, and (...) each other - then go ahead and pick this one up. I guess it can't hurt, call it a guilty pleasure.

3-0 out of 5 stars International corporation hi-jinks
Three reasons to rent (or buy) this movie are: Carol Alt, Alexandra Paul and Lauren Hutton. Two former supermodels and a Baywatch Babe to boot!
The plot is not that great. Billy Zane plays a rich young heir and stockholder in an international company who wheels and deals his way to increase his fortune, stabbing other family members in the back. He crosses paths (and bedsheets) with several women, among them the married Alexandra Paul and Zane's hot nightclubbing cousin, Carol Alt.
Don't expect too much. Aside from some European vistas and bed-hopping, it was a bore. It reminded me of a Judith Krantz novel. Maybe it was? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST SEE for filmmakers and musicians alike.
If ever there was a filmmaker/musician who deserved to fail and fail miserbly, it was Troy Duffy (of the Miramax buys him a bar fame)...and fail miserable he does in this amazing doc made by two of his friends.I use the word "friends" losely, because as it becomes obvious in the film's opening minutes, Duffy is so rude and unlikeable that I truly doubt he can have actual friends. When given a golden opportunity, instead of working 24/7, Duffy chooses instead to drink and drink and drink some more, all the while publicly mouthing off about half the powerplayers in Hollywood. This is so the text book example of how NOT to behave.Duffy becomes truly delusional by the end of the film, talking as if he were the most brilliant musician/filmmaker of all time, and mouthing off how no one understands his genius. His abusive treatment of his brother and the two guys who co-managed his band (who were also the two who made the doc - brilliant move there!) is especially telling. He treats everyone around him like crap, and it comes back not only to bite him, but to rip out his jugular.Talk about a satisfying ending! This is a GREAT MOVIE!I hope Tony Montana and Mark Brian Smith have a long career making films, and that they keep going back for a celebratory drink wherever it is that Duffy now works, just to rub his nose in it.

The chemistry between Leonor Varela, who stars as the bewitching queen Cleopatra, and Billy Zane, as the steadfast Marc Antony, is undeniable. Their love scene is one of the steamiest to hit network television. However, once you move beyond this couple's sexual energy, the movie tends to droop, leaning toward the lackluster.

The tale of Cleopatra has hit the screen in many guises, but none have succeeded as well as Cecil B. DeMille's 1934 film. Here, director Franc Roddam tries once again to tell the story of the exotic queen who won the hearts of both Julius Caesar (Timothy Dalton) and Antony, while reigning over a troubled country. But how do you tell such an epic in a mere 140 minutes? Obviously, much is left out, making this film more worthwhile as a pleasant diversion than a real history lesson. The sets are quite remarkable for a TV movie, but unfortunately, the acting and dialogue leave something to be desired. Cleopatra comes across as a bratty child rather than an intelligent and manipulative seductress. Surely this tremendous queen had more going on in her life than her romances with Romans, but you wouldn't know it from this movie. Zane is the best part of the film, although his constant do-good boyishness can grate. Dalton is adequate as Caesar, although he seems to have a hard time taking the role seriously. Yet, for all its flaws, the action moves swiftly and while the battle scenes may leave you cringing with embarrassment for the director, the rest of this carefully staged piece is beautiful to look at. If you really want to know about the Queen of the Nile, though, you may be better off with A&E's Biography: Cleopatra or the Intimate Portrait: Cleopatra. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A well done movie.
Many people criticize the lack of historical accuracy in this production, and understandably so. However, if you do not take a historical viewpoint and view the movie as you would view any other romance-tear jerker, you would realize that it is well done and the actors and actresses have done a superb job. It seems that by now people would realize that the last place you should go to for historical accuracy is a made for t.v. movie. Reading other reviews, I become slightly annoyed with other's disgust with Cleopatra. Their main argument was that, hisorically speaking, the movie was extremely off base and the characters were poorly portrayed. I would ask anyone watching this movie to keep in mind that the producers, directors, and actors who participated in this production were targeting a general audience. Unfortunately, the general audience is composed of people who merely want to be entertained, not educated. This movie accomplishes it's purpose, to entertain, which makes me believe that it is worthwhile. Congratulations to Billy Zane and Timothy Dalton for a job well done in portraying two of Rome's most famous characters: Marc Antony and Julius Caesar. Leonor Varela, while her Cleopatra was not the one whom I have come to know and love so well from history books and biographies, seems to have taken a lot of grief for her performance. I believe that she suffered from poorly written dialogue (the writers disregarded the real Cleopatra's intelligence and wit) and carried her part well. In short, I award this movie four stars. I enjoyed it thoroughly and would like to see the actors and actresses receive more credit for their performances, as they all did excellent jobs.

5-0 out of 5 stars An epic of grand scale!
This movie was amazing, especially for being made for TV. Great, wonderful, awesome... all of the above.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling drama
Dramas based on history, usually are not historically accurate. This movie is not less historically accurate that Shakespeare's Julius Caesar or Anthony and Cleopatra.
The fact is that it is a thrilling drama, with steamy romance, gripping action and intrigue.
It is probably true from the evidence that Cleopatra was not an extremely beautiful woman, which leads some to fault the casting of the gorgeous Leonora Varela.
But it is totally unfair to fault Leonora as an actress. She is a fantastic actress, and it is great to watch her Cleopatra. Indeed, who could not fall in love with Leonora Varela's Cleopatra? So what if she is not Elizabeth Taylor (she is rather more beautiful than Elizabeth Taylor)

The truth is that Cleopatra in reality was, no doubt, an unscrupulous, and scheming woman, and if anything the casting of the lovely Leonora, in her very sensually charged portrayal of this role, makes me more sympathetic to her character.
I hope to see much more of Leonora, she'd make a great Osnat, the wife of the Yosef, the Hebrew who rose to become Prince of Egypt, Queen Esther of the Purim story, or Pocahontas.

Timothy Dalton as always, was his grand self and added the required force to the role of Julius Caesar, and Billy Zane knew how to do a great Mark Anthony.

I thought some particularly memorable scenes are where Cleopatra shows some skill with weapons in defending herself from would-be-assassins, the portrayal of the Roman Senate, the rally after Caesar's assasination where Mark Anthony swears revenge against Caesar's murderers and enflames the crowd against Brutus , Cassius and company , and the recreation of Alexandria.
Octavian is well displayed as a scheming, power-player, and whoever had the idea of him presenting Brutus' head to Mark Anthony in a basket.

And a nice role played by Kassandra Voyagis as Cleopatra's short lived sister Arsinoe. I was sad to see her go like that, and it certainly showed Cleopatra's cruel side.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best "Cleo" Yet
This is the best Cleo on the market. Exotic sets & scenery, steamy love scenes. The script is sameoldsameold, but what can you do with this story? The beauty in the title role sends Liz back to Beverly Hills, & the acting level of these two stars is about even.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Awesome Movie
I orginally saw this movie on tv but I missed a lot of it. I was really interested in seeing the entire movie so I bought the DVD. Trust me it was worth it. I love the costumes that they used in the movie and Leonor Varela isa great actress. She was perfect for the role as Cleopatra. I recommend this movie to everyone. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I didn't get it...
This movie didn't get my full attention, perhaps because Rob Schneider is in it, and he annoys me to no end. But Nastassja Kinski's in this one, so I'm obligated to review it. I have vowed to review EVERYTHING she's ever been in, no matter how wretched. Unless a movie is phenomenally bad, it gets 3 stars jut for pure Kinskiness. And she's in it, so it does. This movie doesn't have quite enough Kinskiness in it though. So i am deducting a point!

5-0 out of 5 stars So misunderstood!
It seems like too many people don't understand the simple fact that this movie is not about the plot! It's not supposed to make sense! The entire movie is one giant nonsensical joke. It's kind of like Andy Kaufman and the fact that everything he did was all a part of an hilarious prank pulled on millions of people. This movie is a joke, and we--the viewers--are the punchline. It is meant to be like that. But then again, I guess if it weren't for people who hate the movie, it wouldn't be funny to people like myself.
For anyone who understands John Landis, this is a must-have!

4-0 out of 5 stars Revolting, Goofy, stupid, rediculous. I LOVED IT!
With a cast like this, you can only expect a flop. Yet these reviewers who dumped on this flick musta watched something else, 'cause this movie, although not innovative, was an enjoyable romp into the outer-limits of these talented actors' range. If you didn't like this movie, then go watch the Talented Mr. Ripley, then come back. Compared to that movie, you can enjoy anything...

4-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING CAST, okay plot (a few holes)
The other reviewers do make a few good points. I'll admit, this not an amazing film, but I certainly enjoyed it. Watch it once and its kind of difficult to grasp. Watch it again, and everything comes together. A third time, and the film is just as good. A good cast brings comedy (not amazing, but worthwhile) to the film. All of the actors are well-cast and play their parts well, making a slightly shaky plot a lot more believable. This movie is not torture at all (as other reviewers said), and it is perfect for rainy days. I definentaly reccomend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
This movies is SO BAD, my true rating would be 5 black holes. It looks like it ought to be good--John Landis, the actors, but trust me, this would have to get way better to become merely BAD. Think three stooges, with PMS and guns. I got this because I am an Adrian Paul fan; I know some film work is better than none, but if you too are a fan, save your money and watch some old Highlander episodes. This actually hurt to watch. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars No surprises, but serviceable adventure yarn
There isn't much to say about this typical story of greed, intrigue, and jungle adventure -- this one takes place in the wilds of Borneo, for a change, and is set in 1955 although a lot of the film feels as if it's taking place in the 1930s. There's a sort of pre-WWII colonialism mentality about it that is jarring, and very little evidence of the modern world apart from some references to atomic bombs. Even the clothes, hairstyles, and mannerisms seem dated, archaic. Oh, well. The plot centers around a quest for a fabulous diamond and the romantic triangle (or is it?) between the married swells in pursuit (the oddly dyspeptic Carradine and an elegant Paris Jefferson) and their hard-scrabble guide (Billy Zane, good as usual in another cartoon role). There's a lot of running around in uncomfortable-looking surroundings, Zane doing a Bogart impression, and nasty natives of the sort normally encountered in vintage Tarzan movies. Very retro, but all in good fun, and the underappreciated Paris Jefferson -- best known perhaps as a radiant Athena in the "Xena" TV series -- steals every scene she's in, the perfect cool Britishwoman under fire. Who wouldn't steal a diamond for her?

...

5-0 out of 5 stars Jealousy, Greed, Jungle adventure and not-stop action!
Having read a little about Louis L'Amour and his early adventures as a merchant seaman at his web site (louislamour.com), I can see some of his own life in this story! From the absolute KING of the Western comes an exciting, jungle action adventure flick that combines Indiana Jones with Casa Blanca, Tarzan, and Romancing the Stone. Zane is the perfect down-on-his-luck adventurer, trapped by his bad luck, empty pockets and a haunting secret past. Carradine brings just enough stiff-upper-lipped genious to his role to make you love - hate - love - hate the guy. And Paris Jefferson is a sophisticated sensous Gwenevere whose romantic notions get the better of her. Yet when the chips are down, she turns out to be the stongest of them all! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and recommend to everyone. And if you want to talk to the writer (and Louis L'AMour's son) Beau L'Amour, visit the discussion forum at louislamour.com He has been very active with comments on the making of this movie! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Satisfactory southern potboiler
I discovered this movie on the TV while channel surfing and was pleasantly surprised. I am a Kelly McGillis fan (ever since Witness) and I thought I'd give it a try. Billy Zane is also a good and yet underappreciated actor. He plays one of a trio of escapees from a prison farm in 1950s Louisiana. They seek refuge in the remote home of a middle-aged woman who has been living like a hermit since her father died.
The character Kelly plays is frumpy and eccentric. She has the opportunity to escape from the clutches of these bumbling escaped cons, but she is determined to stay at her house and work in her garden. Zane is the compassionate one of the three, and he prevents the bully in the bunch from molesting Kelly. In quite a funny scene, Kelly inflicts further injury on the whiney one of the bunch.
The cons lie low while the police search the vicinity, having to deal with a traveling preacher, Kelly's nosey sister who pops in from time to time, and the blind man who delivers her groceries. You know some characters are going to come to an untimely demise. Meanwhile, affections develop between Zane and McGillis. She started to look hot even in her frumpiness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jail Break
This was a surprisingly interesting film set in the 60's about 3 escapees, one of whom is dangerous (Rollins), one of whom is lovable (Zane) and the other who is annoying (guy from "Roseanne").

It's one of those gems that was overlooked by critics, but can easily be enjoyed by romance and drama fans.

Loved it!

2-0 out of 5 stars I spent how much on this? Damn.
If you want to admire Henry Rollins' bare behind, watch this movie. Everything else is a waste of time. "Morgan's Ferry" is painfully slow and dry, leaving its otherwise talented cast deficient of an engaging plot, believable character relationships or interesting dialogue. The dragging story makes the viewer wish for an explosion, or anything, to make it stop, instead of lumping along into the uneventful end.
Also, it is pointless to watch the DVD version, there are virtually no special features; there aren't even chapters, just one long run.

5-0 out of 5 stars A touching story
"Morgan's Ferry" - a touching story well told and well filmed. I enjoyed the film thoroughly and am going to buy the DVD. If you liked Fried Green Tomatoes and films about the American South, you will love "Morgan's Ferry". Kelly McGillis and Billy Zane have given good performances. When I've purchased the DVD, it's going to be in my collection of my all-time favorite movies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Catches the spirit of Hendrix
At times I wonder if I saw the same video as those
who gave the negative reviews. I thought it was a
good easy-viewing synopsis of the career of Jimi.
Although I never met him, I think I've tuned into his
personality through his between-song comments and
movie and television interview appearances. He was,
as presented in the movie, a kind and easy-going soul
who was somewhat unsure about his leadership role in
the music industry. He was prone to let others take
advantage of himself.
At that time, the drug culture was in vogue in 60's
London -- and Hendrix fell right into that trap. It's
too bad, but a mighty creative force is also balanced
by a highly destructive one. Hendrix rode his creative
force into superstardom, but his self-destructive
demons caused his early demise.
I believe that the people who were consulted during
the making of this film know more about Jimi than
some of the negative reviewers on these pages. By the
way, Eric Clapton did look that way during the late
sixties in his Cream incarnation. Also, the soundtrack
was extremely well done! I have been trying to find
out who did the guitar parts. He (or she) captured the
subtle inflections of Hendrix's playing marvelously.
I think that Jimi would have been honoured.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unintentional Humor and Intentional Boredom.
Hmmm... Where to start?
Wood Harris isn't really that terrible of an actor. (Although I've only see him in one movie.) This has to be one of the most challenging roles for any actor. Wood, however, plays Hendrix as if he was a mumbling airhead. The filmmakers also needed to get an actor who could actually play guitar. He didn't have to necessarily be good, just know enough to fake it. (Hendrix is one of the best guitarists in history, so it's okay if you can't play like him.) Also, this film, being a TV-movie, had a limited budget. The Woodstock scene was painful to watch, especially when it appeared as if Hendrix was only playing in front of a crowd of 10 extras. The costumes were great, but the hairpieces really needed some work.
The biggest disappointment was the music. Since, the filmmakers were unable to license Hendrix's music, we get some really bad cover tunes with a singer that doesn't even sound like him. It should have been a sign that his movie should have never been made.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrific
I would rather have my eyelids pinned open and be forced to watch Gigli for 24 hours strait than live through another 20 minutes of this horrific movie. O. My. Gawd. This is seriously the worst rock-n-roll movie of all time. I said: ALL TIME WORST. It is so bad I almost cried. The poor actor can't even play a chord. He would just slide his hand up and down the neck flipping his fingers around. Oh, this is sooo sad. The only thing sadder is that some people (obviously being sarcastic) gave it more than 1 star in their review. I am in tears. Jimi, if you can hear us, we apologize for this atrocity.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it
This movie is horrible. Picture a guy with 6 pack abs talking effeminately, pretending to be Jimi Hendrix. It's that bad. They throw in a softcore lesbian scene, hoping to save the movie I suppose, but it can't be saved.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's worth seeing once despite it's many flaws.
"Hendrix" isn't exactly a top-notch movie, in fact, in many ways it's a real dud. However, it is a movie that is indeed worth seeing at least once if you're a Jimi Hendrix fan. Admittedly there are many problems with it, and while it has some positive aspects it's not easy to overlook the downsides.

First and foremost the movie very hastily covers Hendrix's early years, most notably his childhood, which should have been focused on more. His cold relationship with his mother is hardly established, aside from a brief scene between the two. Another important part of Jimi's life, his tenure in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper is very hastily done and is quite dissapointing. While it's entertaining to see Jimi outplay Little Richard and then get booted off the tour for doing so, it's incorrect, I wont bore you with facts, but it's something to keep in mind. Jimi's time as a studio musician is only mentioned by Jimi himself during one or two scenes, and that's about it.

Now I can overlook those facts, but the thing that dissapoints me the most is how they handled The Experience. Bassist Noel Redding, while with some short and so-so scenes, is hardly paid any mind to, and even less for drummer Mitch Mitchell. They fail to truely give Hendrix's band mates credit, nor do they do justice to the charisma between the three. Hendrix's time after The Experience with The Band of Gyspys is served even less time, another important fact to Jimi's career brushed aside.

Another flaw are the "musicians" themselves...they aren't even playing the instruments or making any attempt to make it look like they are for that matter. During several drum rolls Mitch Mitchell sits there and hits one cymbal, it looks quite ridiculous to say the least. Even Hendrix himself looks like he's just an amature who walked into a guitar shop, plucking the strings. Last, but not least, is the movie uses no actualy Hendrix recordings, calling upon studio musicians to try and mock Hendrix, as many reviewers have mentioned before, the National Anthem at Woodstock is almost painful to listen to.

So why see this movie just once? To be honest, while I took issue with all of these negative facts, I still enjoyed it to a degree. Wood Harris, who plays Hendrix, does a fairly good job of capturing Jimi, though this is almost impossible to do. The dialogue between Hendrix and others is entertaining with some unrealistic yet memorable lines. I was glad that Hendrix's conflict between appealing to a mainstream white audience and appealing to his black roots was shown during a conversation with two Black Panther representatives.

If you're a Hendrix fan, be prepared for this movie to have it's flaws, but don't dwell on them, see it at least once for the positive aspects, not the negatives. As for the three men who wrote this, if you plan to write a more in depth sequel of sorts, do it right this time. A movie about Jimi Hendrix needs time to establish his life, his career and his downfall, even if it meant a three hour film, I don't know of one Hendrix fan who wouldn't enjoy every minute of it. ... Very retro, but all in good fun, and the underappreciated Paris Jefferson -- best known perhaps as a radiant Athena in the "Xena" TV series -- steals every scene she's in, the perfect cool Britishwoman under fire. Who wouldn't steal a diamond for her?

And if you want to talk to the writer (and Louis L'AMour's son) Beau L'Amour, visit the discussion forum at louislamour.com He has been very active with comments on the making of this movie! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Billy Zane Rocks!
Funny, scary, and entertaining, "Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight" is the first of a series of films that are derived from the popular HBO series. Unlike the "Creep show" and "Tales From the Darkside" films of the past, "Tales From the Crypt" focuses on one tale of horror and suspense each time, allowing the story to develop into a more entertaining experience.

Directed by Ernest Dickerson ("Juice") "Demon Knight" features the immense talents of William Sadler, Jada Pinkett Smith, and the ever versatile, amazing Billy Zane in a horror movie laced with plenty of comedic moments. The story revolves around a key that Sadler is carrying in order to pass on to the next guardian. There are a total of 7 keys, representing a galaxy each. According to Sadler's story, the key contains the blood of Jesus Christ. While dying on the cross at Golgotha, a follower of Christ pour his blood into the key to prevent the conquest of earth and the rest of the universe by Satan and his legion of demons. Until all keys are together can this happen, and with 6 of the keys in the hand of demons, the fate of the universe lies on Pinkett Smith's character, who is the chosen one to carry the key after Sadler.

I must praise Billy Zane. He is amazing. He plays the perfect villain, and in this role he is dynamite. His performance is more comedic, and he would make similar villains of the past such as Freddy Krueger very proud. I can understand why Hollywood has typecasted him as a villain in almost all of his films after seeing this film. Zane's intense sex appeal will captivate many viewers, and his range of emotions is incredible.

Pinkett Smith who was coming into films fresh from the cancellation of the long-running NBC series "A Different World," is great. As the heroine of the movie she really can kick butt, and her on-screen chemistry with Zane is perfect.

In conclusion, this a great film to view if you are in the mood for horror mixed in with a bit of dark humor. The film can be strong at times with the sight of gore and violence, but if it weren't for Billy Zane's performance, I wouldn't have cared to watch this film at all. He is one of the film world's most gifted actors and this film was a showcase of his talent before he became a bigger name when he starred in "James Cameron's Titanic." "Demon Knight" is an excellent example of how to create an entertaining horror film. Skip "Blair Witch" and try this film instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars horror movie or comedy?
It seems to be a great combination of the two!

I don't think I ever saw this show on TV but since reading some of the reviews on this particular edition and the impressive cast list, I was curious to see what the fuss was about. That and the fact that I am a fan of Billy Zane and now William Sadler. I never realized that the latter actor was in so many things, such as "The Green Mile" and the "Roswell" series. I also don't think that I've ever seen Jada Pinkett Smith in anything before. I'm glad that she had a good strong character to sink her teeth into.

What WAS interesting was the way the story developed by way of verbal explanations and flashbacks. At the beginning you weren't quite sure who was the good guy or who was the bad guy but Billy Zane played his role extremely well as the wickedly, funny Collector!

Since watching this movie I was interested to see how many other "Tales from the Crypt" were available to buy on DVD. Especially with the !number of famous people which you can always find in the querky stories. Unfortunately there are only 2 that I could find. Hopefully, there will be more of them in the near future.

A great way to spend 1½ hours!

5-0 out of 5 stars Demon Knight!!!
Wow! What a good Movie! This is byfar the best Demon Possesion movie since the Evil Dead. The demons look a lot like pumkinhead, but with long rock band hair. William Saddler and Jada Pinkett lead the fight against the sly and funny collector (Billy Zane). The fun begins right away with a cool beginning action sequence. As The film goes on, introducing the charcters, the demons arrive and the war begins. I'd say the best parts of the movie is where you see the demons takeover people.

It's really gross! They mutate and deform in different ways! But, if you like funny, actiony horror films that are explosive, This is It!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap, B-Movie Fun!
Demon Knight is a blast which is a lot to say for a film that seems to be made on a sixty dollar budget. The special effects are nothing spectacular ( but I appreciated that more than outrageous tricks relied on by films like The Matrix ). This film is the best Tales From the Crypt episode you'll ever see. It may not be filled with the greatest acting or dialogue but it is one of the most entertaining films you'll see in a long time. I saw this in 95' and enjoyed it since then. I've just purchased the DVD and cannot wait to sample the film on high quality stock. Billy Zane shines although a lackluster Jada Pinkett should have been replaced by a more vibrant black actress such as Nia Long. Zane and Pinkett have no chemistry and it surprises that the filmmakers decided to have Pinkett be the " chosen mistress " to Billy's underlord persona. Anyway, this film has a few minor faults but nothing to make this film less than a five-star gem. A hidden jewel if I say so myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tales
Very interesting movie. Some scenes are a bit disgusting. Nevertheless the connection of the story line with the crucifixion of Jesu-Christ is quite interesting. And maybe not so crazy after all.
A film worth seeing and thinking of. Not for children! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Docudrama
A very well acted movie. It combines dialogue from the actual trial transcripts with interviews with most of the main participants. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars ABBIE HOFFMAN LIVES!
This film has historic value, as it was written from the actual court records. It was made in cooperation with the original Chicago 8. The film documents the insanity of this particular trial, highlighting the in-court binding and gagging of Black Panther activist Bobby Seale. It confronts the injustices of our legal system with unflinching hilarity. This film is a must see for every American, as it will force the viewer to question all assumptions about Constitutional law. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mmm, mmm Good!
This erotic drama is a keeper. It definitely appeals to the senses.Hot steaming chinese baths, firecrackers.Passion, passion, passion all around. You will love it.Never thought acupunture could look so exhilirating.Billy Zane -- whoo, baby! Wonderfully sexy film.

4-0 out of 5 stars Joan Severance is delicious
I would say this is Joan Severance's best movie. Since appearing in small roles in See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Bird on a Wire, she has been relegated to B-movie erotica, but she has given it her best. She truly is an exquisite creature, with mesmerizing blue eyes and an incredible body.
She is perfect as the sexually repressed housewife who stumbles into a sexual liaison with her gardener, played by Billy Zane, and his sometime lover May Karasun. Like others have said, the photography at the lake in the movie is stunning and adds tremendously to its sensual appeal.
The movie takes a downturn into negativity with the revelations about the Severance character's painful past, at which point the sensuality is abruptly cut off. Talk about coitus interruptus! But it is still a captivating, memorable movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars A womans mind
If ever there was a movie that explained a woman's mind this would be it.Women are portrayed so often as solid creatures that know exactly what they want. The men are always the ones who are confused and stray. What Ithink is important here is how this movie explains what goes on in awoman's mind. What awoman must sacrificeWomen are sensual creatures bynature, and as Billy pointed out near the end "real life and romancedo not generally go hand in hand". I think all to often womensacrifice their sensual side for that of family and security. This moviedefiantly hits home to a lot of women and their own fantasies.

3-0 out of 5 stars not bad,but could be better
don't get me wrong i love joan severance but the movie would be nothing with out her, not bad acting, but bad script, to many left turns not enough, well you know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Billy Zane is the absolute sexiest man to ever live.
This movie is where I first saw Billy Zane.It is the most erotic movie I have ever seen.I loved the amazing attraction between Billy and Joan.It was an exciting ride from beginning to end.Billy Zane is absolutelydevine!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A popcorn movie that teaches. We need more like this.
Mario Van Peebles "Posse" is a movie with flaws, but it treats its source material with respect. Unlike the shallow and silly "Rosewood" Van Peebles "Posse" gives viewers a clear picture of what life was like for African-American cowboys at the turn of the century. We get to know characters in the story. The production values are low budget, and several roles are miscast, but Van Peebles' heart is in every second of this film. He loves the material and wants us to learn as much about these forgotten black heroes as he has. Part "spaghetti western", part action flick, part historical drama, Posse is a lot of fun to watch. Mario Van Peebles, Billy Zane, Melvin Van Peebles and Salli Richardson in her first role are great. Tis one is worth owining for your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings Old West Back to Life
Mario Van Peebles Posse' brought a new perspective about the west. This was the first western in many years to feature a predominately African-American cast. Stephen Baldwin was great in his potrayal of Lil' Jay. Very educational movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than the "editorial review" thinks it is
Tom Keogh, whomever he may be, is quite mistaken about the quality of Mario Van Peebles film, which is somewhat more than simply a "black western." Despite the "camp" appearances of several black celebrities, Peebles brings to the film an arresting visual quality and an iconoclastic, unmistakably "dark" [no pun intended] perspective on How the West Was Lost, which is one of the biggest tragedies of American history. The historical background is suitably complex, tieing in references to the Spanish-American War. Although the lead character's gunslinging talents are made too much of, this is far from cliche.

4-0 out of 5 stars Correcting History.
Mario Van Peebles directed and starred in this film about a group of African-American soldiers (and one white one) on the run from a corrupt military officer. The officer (Billy Zane) had the posse steal some gold from Cuba during the Spanish-American War. He planned to kill them afterwards, but the group proved stronger than he thought and they escaped. They come back to the states and follow Jesse (Van Peebles) to the dream town of his deceased father in west Texas. Jesse has some inner demons to silence and they won't be still until he has settled an aged score.

The film is interesting. However, the movie relies heavily upon typical Western cliches which dampen some of the it's uniqueness. Nevertheless, the film does raise awareness about all the black cowboys and settlers that were so instrumental in taming the West that most people don't even know existed. An educational film that is quite entertaining to watch.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Posse
This is the best movie ever made! The best character in this movie was Little J played by Stephen Baldwin! I dont own the DVD version though, I have the VHS! I'm Looking forward to having the DVD just to brag about it to all my friends! ... Read more
