Lee rages his bone crushing..slambanging revenge
Lee is framed for murder and then several years later hes out and looking for blood..with great set pieces...bonecrushing..car cashes..this keeps you at suspense...Lee's second best next to THE CROW.....Ronny Yu(Formula 51) directs this great actioner.

You probably realized that Brandon Lee doesn't play in this movie, for the most part. He was not in any of the fight scenes; there were someone else --a stunner. Movie has no plot. It is just another movie that tries to catch attention from small kids. One can even see that all punches and kicks DO NOT EVEN TOUCH AN OPPONENT. The movie is [bad]; there is nothing else to add. If you really want to watch it, because Brandon is playing, RENT IT DON'T BUY IT.

I watched Legacy of Rage after I saw Brandon's final film, The Crow, and I was literally blown away. Unlike most dubbed films, Brandon's sheer presence and force of character made the film very watchable--I never had a sense that I was missing a part of his performance (although of course I was) because of the intense physical acting of his character.

For The Crow fans who are already familiar with the intensity of Brandon's performance, this is a rare treat--we have proof now that he didn't just miraculously portray The Crow's Eric Draven, but was capable of portraying the angst, confusion and rage of extreme situations in a believable and caring way very early in his too short career.

It is hard to believe that Brandon was so young when he filmed Legacy of Rage--he carries himself with a poise and confidence that belies his tender years...he is believable as a man who has suffered the unbelievable.

In Legacy of Rage, Lee portrays Brandon Ma, a hardworking Chinese youth, holding down two jobs, and saving his money to wed his beloved. Ma's best friend is Michael, whose father is part of the organized crime syndicate, who is being groomed to take his over the family business. When a Michael sets Brandon up to take the fall for a mob hit, sending him to prison for eight years. Brandon loses his love while in prison, and only later learns of Michael's betrayal. After he is released from prison, Brandon is provoked to revenge to save his beloved and the son he didn't know he had from the power maddened Michael.

The fight and shooting scenes are well balance with thoughtful character development. The final confrontation between Brandon and Michael is often compared to John Woo style Hollywood action epics, and rightly so...you will rewind it again and again to catch all the action! The initial fight scene between Brandon and the bully is a treat for Bruce Lee fans. Brandon does several "Brucisms," like cracking his knuckles by clenching his fists, and such. This is the only time you will see Brandon emulate his father on film.

If you are a Brandon fan, this is a must see...forget about Laser Mission and Showdown in Little Tokyo...this is Brandon as good as Rapid Fire, with distinct foreshadowings of The Crow. Get it.

Totally cool. The Lee Legends continue to be the best.

Brandon Lee,RIP
I just happened to stumble across this flick the other day at the local Media Play and speaking as a hardcore Bruce Lee fan and of Brandon's performance in The Crow...I was blown away by Brandon's only Hong Kong movie. The action was there(Brandon stayed true to the Jeet Kune Do method that his dad polished) and while I didn't feel that he was attempting to imitate or emulate his dad...his intensity, mannerisms and even his expressions tend to resemble and honor his dad at times. I strongly recommend LOR for fans of Bruce and Brandon Lee, not just because it's a rare treat(or for the Cantonese soundtrack w/t English subtitles...cool), but because it represents the continuity of the Bruce Lee legacy and gives us more of a glimpse at what may've been(carrying Bruce Lee's torch and coming from under his shadow) had he lived to carry on his father's martial arts/film legacy. A truw, underground martial arts classic by the son of the greatest of all time. Brandon Lee...Rest In Peace,man.

Pokemon Magic
This DVD contains three great episodes. In the first episode Team Rocket is stealing things while pretending to be famouse cat burglars. It's up to Ash, Misty, Brock, and Officer Jenny's Spinarak to stop them. Whatever will happen.
In the second episode Ash, Misty, and Brock find a rich ladies Snubbull who's real unhappy. Then Team Rocket comes and Snubbull instantly falls in love with Meowth's tail so it runs away to find Meowth.
In the third and final episode Brock finds a hurt Stantler and wants to care for it but it gets scared and a whole herd of Stantler appears. Now how will brock care for it?

these DVDs are basically twice as much as the tapes and have absolutely NO extras. i love pokémon and these episodes are really great, but just buy the tapes. then you'll have more money left over to buy toys. (:

Jessie in tights? Yes, please!
As usual, there are three episodes from the Pokemon series on this DVD. Things start off with a bang with the best episode on the DVD, Spinarak Attack! Ash and company run into a town filled with bug-type Spinarak, much to Misty's dismay. They also find Officer Jenny using her Spinarak to track down thieves who have taken the guise of the legendary Cat Burglar from years ago, who was finally captured by a Spinarak. Who could possibly be impersonating the famous thief? Why, it's Jessie, James and Meowth, who else? And they are threatening to steal a valuable vase... can they be stopped?... probably. Next up is Snubble Snobbery. Pay attention in this one, because you're going to see a running gag that will play out over the course of the series. A rich lady is smothering her pet Snubble, but Snubble doesn't seem to enjoy it much. When Team Rocket sneaks into the mansion, Snubble latches onto Meowth's tail and they run off with it. Can Ash get Snubble back to it's owner? And even more importantly, does Snubble even want to go back? Finally, in Little Big Horn, Brock finds a wounded baby Stantler in the park and helps heal it. Can they find its mother, and can Brock say goodbye to a Pokemon he's grown attached to? Overall, this is a good buy, especially if you're a Pokemon fan. ... Read more

Perhaps the Definitive Version of This Lugosi Classic
Among horror fans, Lugosi fans, and fans of psychotronic films in general, "The Devil Bat" holds a special place. Made by poverty row studio PRC in 1940, the film is a wonderfully ridiculous chiller about a mad scientist (Lugosi, of course)who takes revenge on his double-crossers (no, not the producers of this movie) by enlarging a normal bat to gigantic proportions through electrical treatments and using a new shaving lotion he perfected as the bait to attract the bat to its victim. ...)...

The film has kicked around the public domain for the last decade or so, with the result that VHS prints of it were either excellent or hardly watchable. DVD versions in general have been clear, but this version beats the others and comes close to being a definitive version of the picture, if one is possible.

Released by the Lugosi estate, "The Devil Bat" is the first in a proposed series of definitve versions of Lugosi films. (The unjustly overlooked "Bowery at Midnight" is the second movie in this series.)Extras on this DVD include stills from the movie, a poster card (very well done), and a commentary track featuring Bela Junior and film historian Ted Newsom. The commentary track is a laugh in itself as the two quickly run out of things to say about the movie (in fact, one wonders if Bela Jr. even saw it before this)and switch topics to Bela Junior's memories of life with father. As he provides some unusual insight into the life of his father, the commentary track is a must for all Lugosi fans, and, combined with the price, makes for one of the biggest bargains for film fans.

so bat it is goot
This would have simply been a terrible movie with laughable special effects if Bela Lugosi were not the star. As it is, he lends the film his uncanny talent of elevating even the worst flicks into pure entertainment.

It is funny. Some of the stock characters banter and talk real cool. A gigantic furry bat on a string shrieks like a teradactyl. Bela tells each of his victims "goodbye" before he sends them to their deaths at the maw of the devil bat.

Still Lugosi is worth watching as he plays yet another mad scientist bent on revenge. This time a brilliant perfume maker who is also capable of raising and training gigantic bats. There is a high body count for a film of this era, and unlike too many Lugosi films, Bela gets plenty of camera time.

The print looks good to my untrained eye--far better than my video copy. The extras aren't bad-- it's great to have any extras--most Lugosi films don't. The radio show is an interesting curio. I hope this DVD sells well so there will be more films in this series to recieve this deluxe treatment--such as The Corpse Vanishes...

Bela Goes Batty!
Dr. Paul Carruthers (Bela Lugosi) is a scientist who invents new fragrances for a successful aftershave maker. His failure to invest in the company has left him without the millions he feels he deserves. Carruthers is a bitter man who has sworn revenge. How? Does he plan to sue for his fair share of the profits? Nah, the sinister doc creates a small army of giant, mutant, killer bats to exact his vengeance! These fuzzy monsters are attracted by a new aftershave lotion he's formulated in his secret laboratory. He gets his intended targets to splash some on their faces. One by one, the victims are attacked, their throats ripped out by soaring, shrieking, stuffed devil bats! Bela is priceless as always. This movie belongs in every horror collection...

THE povery-row Lugosi film
Here's a nice treat: Bela Lugosi Jr. has acquired to rights to some of his famous father's lesser films, and the first offering is the lovable, laughable PRC programmer THE DEVIL BAT.

Bela is Dr. Carruthers, plotting the death of his enemies by training giant mutated bats to attack those who wear the doc's new experimental shaving lotion. Bela has some great, darkly-comic dialogue. When one intended victim comments on how smooth the new lotion is, Carruthers offers, "I don't think you'll ever wear anything else."

THE DEVIL BAT has, of course, been previously available on DVD and VHS, in various conditions. The best previous DVD release is certainly the one offered by Roan. This new "official" version compares favorably to the Roan disc, though acute listeners might find the sound is a touch clearer on this new disc. Bela Lugosi Jr. partners with genre critic Ted Newsom for an interesting commentary track, which unfortunately shows how little Bela Jr. actually knows about the film.

There are 2 other Lugosi theatrical trailers (but not one for Devil Bat?), some archival photos and a pretty neat audio-only feature: A radio play from the 1940's starring Bela.

If you're a fan of these type of "poverty row" horrors, DEVIL BAT will certainly make your day. If you're a fan of his more popular Universal features, this is a good introduction to a very different career path that poor ol' Bela got stuck on around 1940.

Just a few drops on the neck, where the skin is tender
OK. The plot of Devil Bat doesn't sound that impressive, but Bela Lugosi's performance earns the movie five stars from this reviewer. Lugosi plays Dr. Carruthers, a doctor and scientist beloved by everyone in the village of Heathville; he is the last person anyone suspects when a series of strange murders take place. The first three victims are all sons of the rich and powerful Heath and Morgan families. These two families made their fortunes, it turns out, on one of Dr. Carruthers' formulas, and all the doctor got out of the deal was a measly ten thousand dollars compared to their millions. Ah, yes, we have a motive. Of course, these are no ordinary murders; they seem to have been made by some type of unknown wild animal. It couldn't be a bat, of course, because the killer was definitely a pretty large specimen. Carruthers' plan is hokey but brilliant. He still works for the cosmetics firm, and he has just come up with an experimental new aftershave formula. Naturally, he wants the Heaths and Morgans to try the product out themselves before marketing it-just a few drops spread across the neck, where the skin is always tender. He doesn't bother to tell his victims that bats really, really hate the smell of the formula's secret ingredient, nor does he mention the fact that he has figured out a way to use electrical stimulation to turn a normal bat into a Devil Bat. Everything is going according to plan until a nosy reporter shows up and starts snooping around.

Lugosi is great in this movie. By 1940, he had the whole mad scientist act down to a science, and his secret scowls are enhanced by just the right touch of madness in his eyes. Best of all is the way he tells his victims "Goodbye" in a sinister voice once he has them in the soon-to-be clutches of his Devil Bat. One thing that bothers me about great old horror movies like this is the fact the moviemakers always felt compelled to provide some comic relief in the form of a goofy character-this time around, we have the newspaper photographer "One Shot" McGuire who is more interested in shooting pictures of the Heath's French maid than any silly old bat. The Devil Bat itself isn't very impressive; without the grainy, far from perfect black and white print, I am sure it would look quite ridiculous. It never even moves when Carruthers is handling it, it looks more like a hawk or eagle to me when it is flying, and its swoop attacks on unsuspecting victims make me think of the scene in Naked Gun where Frank Drebbin struggles against a towel thrown in his face. None of that matters, though, because Lugosi is just so much fun to watch. ... Read more

BORN GOOD!
This film impressed me with the tense plot and excellent acting from a relatively unknown cast. Corey Feldman is hysterical. The squemish might want to fast-forward through a disturbing scene where a woman gets her finger chopped in a paper cutter! Overall, I really enjoyed this picture.

ALL GOOD!
I really enjoyed watching this video. The actors were all really strong. I was surprised how good Corey Feldman is, and I haven't liked him since "Stand By Me." This picture deals with teens who rob a bank and essentially every thing that can go wrong does. The paper cutter scene is awesome...worthy of Hitchcock himself. "Born Bad" is "all good."

Darn GOOD!
Corey Feldman is hilarious in this movie. I thought that all the clever plot twists and turns were great. The last half hour is intense. Although I didn't recognize some of the actors, I thought they all did a really good job. Definitely worth seeing!

Wow!
I think this action-drama was GREAT!
At the end its really tense and I just shaked the last 15 minutes. Even if the end wasnt as good as you would like, it was still wort seeing it.
And I think the actors did a great job, even if they warent famous.

Born Bad is all good
Sure to be a cult classic! This gripping teen crime drama got so intense at one point that my girlfriend squeezed the circulation out of my hand! Corey Feldman is funnier than I have ever seen him. The non-stop tension makes this picture worth buying on DVD. You will thank me later. ... Read more

No Ranger retires perpendicular
Nasty and corrupt Mayor Nard Lundy (Edward Andrews) is challenged by idealistic Jeff Rose (Ricky Nelson) in an upcoming election. Lundy has Sheriff Clyde Barnes (Jack Elam) rough the young upstart up some. Rose's visiting father-in-law, retired Texas Ranger Captain Oren Hayes (Pat O'Brien) sends an urgent telegraph to three of his former command (Walter Brennan, Chill Wills and Edgar Buchanan) to come to Boulder immediately and help him clean up the town.
THE OVER-THE-HILL GANG is a 1969 made-for-television movie that was popular enough at the time to lead to a sequel a year later. For old movie fans it's hard to beat the appeal of this veteran character actor laden movie. It's fun to see them play off each other and confront a situation that their advancing years have forced them to deal with more with guile than brute force. What's not so much fun is seeing them saddled with this tired, predictable plot.
Brennan and Buchanan shine brightest in this one; Brennan as the gun slinger who's lost a bit of speed on his quick draw and Buchanan as the scout who's eyesight has deteriorated to the point that he's drawing his guns on stuffed and mounted bears. With a better script, and a more delicate and penetrating examination of what it feels like to suddenly find yourself old and in the way, this one could have been a classic for the ages rather than an amusing piece of fluff.
The print transfer to dvd is so-so. Some of the night scenes are muddy and it's hard to make out what's happening. The dvd also comes with the Little Rascals' short "Hooky Spooky."
Fans of old movies should enjoy the veteran character actors in this, although they may agree that the folks in front of the camera in THE OVER-THE-HILL GANG deserved far better.

One more chance to see some ol' western stars
The technical part of this review refers to the Brentwood Home Video or BCI Eclipse version.

From the Aaron Spelling stable of TV movies comes this tale with Ricky Nelson (and his wife Kris Nelson) as an idealistic couple. Ricky is running for Mayor of a small western town against Edward Andrews who plays a corrupt town boss. Jack Elam is his Sheriff and Andy Devine is his Judge, both firmly entrenched in his back pocket.

Pat O'Brien comes to town as Ricky Nelson's father-in-law, a retired Texas Ranger who rounds up his old partners (Walter Brennan, Edgar Buchanan and Chill Wills)!!! Throw in Gypsy Rose Lee as the owner of the local saloon and you got yourself a pretty good (for TV) rip-snorting western. You know how it's going to play out, but watching the all these stars in action makes up for a sub-par script.

Unfortunately the transfer is from a well-used print that looks like it was recorded in long play mode. At times, scenes taking place at night are almost unwatchable. But the chance to see these stars of westerns in their later years is a treat you should not miss if you're a fan of the western genre.

Brentwood/BCI put in their usual extras, six chapter stops, a DVD dictionary, trivia game and a short subject (Hal Roach's "Little Rascals"). This movie is also in a 10 pack of westerns at about triple the price for this one film from Brentwood Home Video called "The Wild West" and is available from Amazon.com.

i love pokemon
just so every one knows i think a serton person who reveued this dvd was to harsh and i wish i could get an appalage but any way i loved this dvd.. i think that the blossom episod was so cute because bell and bella knew how to dance and they could dance in a battle and win and in the end they showed pikachu(who is todily cute and pikachu is my favorite pokemon)how to dance witch pikachu used to bet team rocket. also i liked the hoot hoot episode because it was fun to see a pokemon that will only listen to girls (misty and some old hags). so buy this dvd because you will be very very happy with it if you remotly like pokemon.

Instead of spending money on soulless, assembly-line anime, how about spending money on some decent Anime? This stuff has absolutely no redeeming value. It's pointless, plotless, poorly animated garbage for Ritilin-addicted babies who run around buying anything with "Pokemon" slapped on it.

Avoid this stuff like the plague that it is!!

I saw the eps but not the tape . . .
. . . So I suppose, good enough. Roll On, Pokemon: Pretty funny, and I was strangely surprised that the one Donphan that Team Rocket stole couldn't sniff amberite. I was surprised at the logic ("Of course you couldn't find any amberite! That Donphan hasn't been trained to!"). And, I for one think that Phanpy is cuter than Donphan. Illusion Confusion: Gary made an appearance in it. By the way, his excuse for being in the woods was good, but he paused too often during it. Also, I think Hagatha and Agatha's vain-ness was pretty funny. What was also funny was that the untrained Hoothoot would only listen to Misty. Flower Power: Goodness! So many rhyming titles! The Bellossoms' song wasn't like the one in P2K, but whatever. They're still very cute, even with those odd nicknames. O_O Team Rocket's show was pretty funny, but I feel sorry for them. 3.5 stars actually - worth watching!
A very interesting film (1982). I admit, it was odd to think of Beardy (Leung Kar-Yan) and
Chow Yun Fat working on screen together in co-starring roles, yet its an enticing
proposition nonetheless. I'm hardly a CYF completist, but I always enjoy a flick
with him up front and center. PSB is really Beardy's flick, but Chow's easy
charisma is never overshadowed - if anything, that 'grin and a toothpick' charmer is well forshadowed
here - and as we see him do a few martial moves, even an early Mu Bai of sorts is glimpsed (he not only fights but uses darts that shoot from his wrist!!!).

Yuen Woo Ping's touch is also evident here and so the choreography is decent and fairly
fast, though the movie is more on 'conspiracy' and 'plot' than 'action' per se. The characters are low-key
and a bit somber, but this, I feel, is a reflection of the movie's intended mood. Having said that,
Beardy et al deliever some tight moves, when we get them. I noted while watching this, that

many of the characters smoke: Chow is constantly smoking and Beardy smokes a lot. The
excellent outdoor scerey further removes this from anything resembling a standard chop-socky flick, and yet, its
not yet hong kong's 'modern era' - this movie seems to exist in its own somber (not depressing!) place and time. I can't say it feels "original," yet it wasn't ever boring, imo.

"During the Republican era, an evil warlord instructs his right hand man to find four suitable
candidates to transport his valuable gifts across dangerous grounds. He recruits four men; a
postman (Leung Kar Yan), a thief (Yuen Yat Chor), a dynamiter and a conman (Chow Yun

seven days. After numerous ambush attempts the group begin to become suspicious but they
have no idea of the horror that awaits them and the consequences of completing the mission

I'm not sure who the villain is (an arms-selling ninja believe it or not - it works), but
I've seen him in several films. This movie sets a tone of uncertainty and the lead players

feel as cold and distant as the beautiful and still snow-covered lands that often serve as a
backdrop. Theres a little love, a little betrayal a little rvenge and some bitter-sweet, like
most hong-kong dishes and that will leave you satisfied if you love the genre. The film is
at least a three star, but wants that extra half star too, so at 3.5 stars you should check it out.

4* for the print! Goodtimes version is the best yet on video
Abbott & Costello made only two color movies and most circulating copies have variable color quality (sometimes so bad that the video is released in black-and-white instead). But this version of "Jack and the Beanstalk" is the best I've seen, and Goodtimes Home Video deserves a round of applause for issuing it on DVD. The original "Super Cinecolor" (less expensive and impressive than Technicolor) is generally very good indeed; I noticed a few instances of Costello's green costume shifting to blue-green, probably owing to different surviving film elements. Goodtimes did a fine job restoring this, and this DVD offers excellent value for the budget price.

The movie itself is a pleasant children's story with music. After a "modern" prologue in monochrome, Bud and Lou adapt their usual sharpie-and-patsy roles to colorful fairytale settings, and Buddy Baer is an excellent foil as the fearsome giant. (Listen for cartoon-voice Mel Blanc playing several roles in the "I Fear Nothing" song.) Makes a nice kiddie matinee, best for small children but older A & C fans will enjoy it, too.

Perhaps I'm a bit biased here, but this film was my first exposure to Abbott and Costello, and I've loved them every since. My parents bought the VHS tape of this when I was very young and I was instantly mesmerised -- those guys were the funniest team of comedians I'd ever seen. They still are, really.

In retrospect, this may not be one of their greatest films (it's not on par with Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, for instance), but it's a fun retelling of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk story, casting Lou as Jack and Bud as the crooked butcher who swaps him magic beans for a cow. Transplanting the boys into the fanciful setting works, and although some of the stuntwork and sets seemed pretty threadbare at times the story and the comedy still click well. This is also one of the few films the boys ever made that could be classified as a musical.

For completists who love Abbott and Costello and are still impatiently waiting for the rest of their films to come out on DVD, this is a must-have. Also recommended for folks with kids -- it's a wonderful movie for the young.

Horrible video and audio transfer!
This was a gift. I knew enough to stay away from Madacy products. The quality of the print is just awful with lines, missing frames, terrible contrast, fuzzy focus, washed out color, and the worst sound I 've ever heard on a DVD. I wish I could recommend a good copy of this movie but I don't know where to get one since it's public domain.

You know the story... the film is a faithful retelling. Costello dreams himself (as Jack) and fellow movie characters into the story. The narrative device recalls Dorothy's dream in The Wizard of OZ; it plausibly lands Lou and Bud in character. Be advised that in addition to annoying film artifacts, my Madacy disc was defective (a series of small depressed circles in a ring concentric with the spindle hole) and in the Passport edition, the video is worse still and then is poorly synched with the audio! Stay away from both if you can find better transfers.

2 Great Bonanzas!
The Blodd Line is an emotional Bonanza about a boy who must get over his father's death. But Death at Dawn is really fun. The murderer, Farmer Perkins, laughs throughout the show. I know it's supposed to be a mean laugh, but it's hilarious. This guy killed a store cashier in cold blood and only the cashier's wife was an eyewitness to the murder. They sentence Perkins to hang, but his friend has held Ben to hostage to free Perkins. It's up to the three boys to save their pa and still hang Perkins. This is probably the best Bonanza dvd that you'll find. ... Read more

Must-not see
If you rent (or even worse, buy) this video, you will regret it. I know I did.
Acting is terrible and the version I bought (argh!) had a horrible transfer, both visually and audibly.
That's what I get for not reading reviews first...

Very bad reproduction on DVD
This DVD has a very bad image and sound. Altought it is a good movie, I don't recomend it if you are looking for a Charles Bronson movie for your collection due to its bad reproduction. No menu, no subtitles, no chapter selection. I wished I did not buy it. ... Read more

A Bela Lugosi Double Feature
As of late there have been many Lugosi movies released on DVD. This double feature is among the best. The Devil Bat (1940) is Lugosi's only movie for Producer's Releasing Corporation, one of Hollywood's many infamous Poverty Row studios. Bela plays Dr. Carruthers, a mad scientist out for revenge against the partners he felt double-crossed him. His instrument of revenge is an electronically enlarged bat, attracted to its intended victims by the odor of a strange perfume Bela has concocted for just this purpose. With a plot such as this, the movie could be simply flat and unwatchable. If not for Bela, that is. Faced with such a prospect and being the dedicated actor he was, Bela plays it up beautifully. Instead of merely being hammy and letting it go at that, he brings certain nuances to his role, using double entendres at times. (Inducing a potential victim to try his shaving lotion, he declares that the victim "will never use anything else.") In fact, he ends up winning our sympathy in a scene with one of his "partners" where it becomes somewhat apparent that poor old Bela was swindled into an inferior deal. No wonder he's mad. Assisting Bela in this wonderful nonsense is Dave O'Brien (Reefer Madness) as the hero, Donald Kerr as the hero's sidekick, and Suzanne Kaaren as the ingénue. Look for Arthur Q. Bryan, more famous as the voice of Elmer Fudd, as O'Brien and Kerr's boss.

Scared to Death is Lugosi's only color film, and as such, is a must for Lugosi fans and collectors. It is a tepid story narrated by a recently deceased woman from her slab in the morgue as to how she got that way. Billy Wilder later used a variation of this in Sunset Boulevard, but, of course, he did it much better. Given the almost total lack of any action in this film a more appropriate title might have been Bored to Death. Nat Pendleton and George Zucco offer whatever support they can to the proceedings. A note of interest is that while suffering from a form of dementia in a psychiatric hospital, George Zucco was said to have scared himself to death with visions of ghosts and demons coming after him. It certainly couldn't have been from watching this film.

Excellent quality of video transfer and easy to use menus make this a bargain for the price.

How I ordered 'Devil Bat' but got a 'White Zombie'
What a pleasant suprise I got one Sunday when I put my Bela Lugosi Collection Vol.1 in to watch Devil Bat and it turns out my DVD isn't what I expected. No Devil Bat or Scared to Death. What you get and it is a FAR FAR Superior DVD is 'The Apeman'(Monkey scientist hokum set during WW2, so all the male actors are draft dodgers or something),Bela Lugosi meets the Brooklyn Gorilla(More monkey scientist shenanigans - only watch on a wet Sunday it is of a time that humour forgot) and Halperin Brothers finest nay THE Finest Gothic Fairy Tale EVER "WHITE ZOMBIE". All I can add to the vitriol of comments said about this film is IT IS THAT GOOD...unlike Tod Brownings Dracula for example. Buy it cry a little and tremble with fear at Bela in his finest role. Not bad for a phonetic actor

For any fan of Bela Lugosi, this is a must have disk!
Bela Lugosi made both good movies (Dracula)and, what some would consider, bad movies (Bride of the Monster). I consider the movies on this disk, somewhere in between. The Devil Bat is a lot of fun to watch. It's definitely the better movie of the two. Scared to Death was Lugosi's only color film, so if for no other reason, it's worth a look. The video and sound quality for both of these movies are surprisingly good. For any fan of Bela Lugosi, this is a must have disk.

Bad movies that never looked so good!
I'm like a lot of old horror movie buffs that have purchased 2nd rate copies of the rare classics because that's all that was available. And it wasn't the poor duplication process, it was the poor surviving master tapes that gave us an often fuzzy vision. You could call it horrific for the "Devil Bat" until the Roan group took charge. What you will get is a fantasically remastered version of a Bela "must have". I was taken aback by the quality of the newly mastered version on this DVD. Kudos also for the "Scared to Death" remaster that shows Bela in his colored glory. Although it's not in as good a shape as "Devil Bat", it's not bad and considering the lack of attention to early film preservation. Highly recommended. ... Read more
