5-0 out of 5 stars I don't want to make a big mulage, or anything
this is a wonderful collection!Great quality--- love the "lost snippets" that we never see due to television chopping these up so painfully! My ONLY complaint is about the previews on Disc 1 -- First of all, why would ANYONE who loves TAGS want to see previews to McGyver and Charmed???? puuuuleeeeeeeease!Secondly, if they MUST put previews, WHY can't we at least fast-forward them?I think it was pretty low for the company to make the previews unable to be forwarded through-- low!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Andy Griffith Show - The Complete Second Season
For those that complain, about the 7 minutes of advertising - obviously you all don't have the kind of DVD player I have, because I had no problem hitting the fast forward button a few times to 4th speed and I'm there. I'm watching all the wonderful episodes, while everyone else is complaining. My suggestions get some cheese with your wine!
Besides if you all think you can do a better job, by all means do it and stop complaining!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT TV!!!!
What A Wonderful Set!!! The Added Sponser Spots By The Cast Are Very Funny!!! Lots Of Great Guest Stars, & Terrific Episodes!!! Bill Bixby, Barbara Eden & Alan Hale!!! As For The Paramount Ads....WHO CARES!!!!!!! Ten Minutes Of Ads To Get A Season Full Of Warmth, Heart & Humor Seems Like A Small Price To Pay!!! Keep The Seasons Coming!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm not "forced" and I love the DVD!!!!
I agree with David.I had little problem advancing passed the commercials, so I was not "forced" to watch any of them.Of course, Paramount could have been nice and left the commercials off, but their main concern is making money, and lots of it.The inconvience of spinning through the commercials (which takes me approximately 10 seconds) is nothing when compared to the rest of the DVD's content! This is easily the best situation comedy of all time and has never stopped being aired in the nearly 45 years since it first ran on CBS.This DVD will be highlighted in my DVD collection, just as season one is.I especially like the added "original sponsor spots",many of which I don't remember ever seeing before.Does anyone know if these "spots" ran during the first season of the show?If so, I hope they tag them on to the season three set along with the season three spots.

1-0 out of 5 stars Commercialism Destroys The Enjoyment of Mayberry
Paramount Studios (owned by Viacom) has taken their commercialism to an all time low.The Andy Griffith Show has been one of my favorite, most relaxing shows for many years.I purchased the complete 2nd season, anticipating laughs and relaxation. But, hold on.Paramount forces the viewer to sit through at least 10 MINUTES of advertisements on disc one - you cannot fast forward through it - you cannot switch to the top menu. The viewer must endure 10 miserable minutes, watching advertisements for other DVD's (which many of us have no interest in). This was not done on the complete first season.I'm seriously considering the return of this DVD set - I do not like to be exploited / forced to endure 10 unending minutes of commercial trash.I don't even watch regular TV - to avoid commercials. What a shame. What a shame that such a materialistic, moronic company owns the rights to The Andy Griffith Show. This has taught me to avoid ALL Paramount DVD's in the future.Burn me once, shame on you - there will not be a second time.

One hopes that at the annual HBO characters Christmas party, Larry Sanders, Carrie Bradshaw, and Tony Soprano make a point to raise a toast to Martin Tupper, the hapless hero of Dream On.This groundbreaking 1990 sitcom from future Friends creators David Crane and Marta Kaufman ushered in a bold new era of original cable programming not bound by broadcast network content restrictions. Hence, the profanity and nudity (you didn't see that on Knott's Landing!), which distinguished the series and helped put HBO on the pop culture map. Brian Benben stars as Martin, a New York book editor still reeling from the breakup of his marriage. The show's gimmick is that baby boomer Martin, a member of the first television generation, flashes on vintage TV clips that express his innermost feelings and desires. When his wife, Judith (Wendie Malick), visits Martin in "The First Episode," he fantasizes reconciliation, but she wants him to sign the divorce papers so she can remarry. The scene is punctuated by clips (from an old Twilight Zone episode, perhaps?) in which boxer Lee Marvin is pummeled in the ring and knocked out. But the clips and the language and the sex would get old fast if we didn't like the characters. Benben has the Everyman charm of a young George Segal, and he wears his anxiety to hilarious effect. He is devoted to his young teenage son, and still loves Judith, who is marrying a paragon, never seen, but described at one point as a "Ghandi for our times." His dating relationships spectacularly crash and burn (cue clip of disabled aircraft). In one episode, he comes undone when he discovers his new lover was a porn star. At the office, he is at the mercy of his caustic secretary (Denny Dillon). Dream On is of more than prurient interest. This was one of those lightning-in-a-bottle series blessed with a fresh vision, a seamless ensemble, and smart writing. To finally have it on DVD is a Dream come true. --Donald Liebenson ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Why did it take so long to release this series?!!
Just buy this - buy it now. Somewhen in the early 90s this series appeared. Completely funny & totally original, this series of pure pure entertainment was the highlight of mine and a million friends week. I have crawled the internet and have never ever found a video, download or anything... until now, I live in anticipation of seeing this great series again.

The show was genius - Martin Tupper's (Brian Benben)thoughts were shown via clips of old b/w B movies. The supporting cast is excellent and they always had cameos from big stars like David Bowie.

How or why this series was forgotten until now is a mystery. Its a masterpiece, far superior to the dross that's around today.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's About Time!!!
I'm very pleased to see that "Dream On" is finally making it to DVD! I used to love this show when I watched it first-run on HBO years ago. Brian Benben was PERFECT as the hapless Martin Tupper, divorced from his wife Judith and trying to raise his teenage son Jeremy while re-entering the dating scene in the 1990's. The show contained many clips of old black & white TV shows and movies where appropriate in the story, and they were hilarious! One of my favorite such moments was in the episode where Jeremy went to a makeout party and told both Martin and Judith he would be staying with the OTHER parent. They found out they had been duped when Judith phoned Martin and found out he had a woman with him. She chastised him for doing so because Jeremy was there, but Martin was quick to defend himself and inform Judith that Jeremy was with HER. She said, "No, he's..." and slowly a look of realization comes to both of their faces. Then, it immediately cuts to a B&W shot of two small boys saying to each other "We fell for it! Boy are we dumb!" Hilarious!

I hope that there are some special features present on this set, but even if there aren't it will still be worth owning. It's about time that this classic HBO Original Series gets the DVD treatment. Hats off to Universal! Now let's hope that another excellent but overlooked HBO Original, "Tales From the Crypt", gets the same treatment! Everyone please support this release so the rest of the seasons will be released as well! You will not be sorry! ... Read more

These 13 episodes from the long-running HBO series have plenty of the bells and whistles that make Arli$$ so much fun to watch: celebrity cameos, topical satire, swatches of deep poignancy, and pure silliness. Comic actor Robert Wuhl, who created and stars, plays Arliss Michaels, a sports super-agent driven by twin motivations of profit and idealism. Arliss is in the race to realize his clients' dreams of stupendous wealth, but he's just as likely to put his reputation (and big bucks) on the line to help a fading player claim his niche in history. As with HBO's The Larry Sanders Show, Arli$$ gets a lot of mileage out of verisimilitude. In these Best of shows, we meet the likes of Dave Winfield, Ernie Banks, Frank Deford, Lloyd Jones, Tommy Lasorda, and even O.J. attorney Bob Shapiro, playing themselves in some very funny stories about the perennial hopes and startling realities that drive professional sports. --Tom Keogh ... 1-0 out of 5 stars One of HBO's Two Big Mistakes
I was stunned they put out this critically bashed, unpopular show on DVD. Any disc containing something called "The Best of Arliss" should be blank. There was no "best." This stinker tied with "The Mind of the Married Man" as the worst two shows in HBO's history. How come this junk is available on DVD and either "Police Squad" or "Sledge Hammer" isn't?

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but interesting choices
I was a huge fan of the show when it aired on HBO Sunday Nights; however I find the "Best of" choices to be quite interesting. There were many other episodes that were much better than the ones presented in this set. Where was the episode where Kirby must outdrink the Volleyball player? or the Battle in the Big ouse boxing match or the one with the Katarina Witt or
some of the other classics. Instead we are treated to episodes that make one yawn. Next time let's see more humorouse episodes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its about time!
First of all, I don't know what took them so long to start putting this show on DVD. I have been looking and waiting for months now. Well, it's about time because this is one of those shows that you need to get and keep. It's a good thing they put this show on HBO because it would have never worked on network or cable TV.
Arliss is one of the funniest shows I have seen. Not sitcom family funny, but adult only almost X-rated funny at times. Believe me, this show is not for the kids, it is adult humor all the way. Arliss Michaels is a sports super agent and the show basically deals with his everyday life and the headaches and problems he has to go throw. Everything from making deals between players and teams to finding the next big plan to make more money! Arliss is an original show that is very smart and funny. There are a ton of cameos from actors and sports stars that are fun to watch! If the sports world or sports agents interest you at all then you will like this show. It's a good time, pick it up!

4-0 out of 5 stars Tones of Jerry MaGuire? Please!
I find it ridiculously dense of people who think Arli$$ is nothing more than a show trying to ride the cotails of the success of Tom Cruise's hit. Further, I think it's pretty idiotic to pigeon-hole anything involving sports agents into Jerry Maguire. The world of athlete representation is a vast one, more entertaining and intriguing than 95% of careers in this world. What Robert Wuhl has done has taken this profession, satirized it, and made it an enjoyable show for people who are sports fans and fans of comedy. Does he have some similarities to Cruise's character? Sure. But most good agents will anyway. MaGuire is a character in a profession, just as Arliss Michaels is. You'll find Arli$$ is a better representation of Drew Rosenhaus than anything, but that would require research and knowledge of the industry....something some editorials have proven otherwise. All in all, it's a great show if taken at face value. Highly reccommend to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Show, Great DVD Set
I'm waiting for more episodes from this smart and witty comedy series which is easily the best show from HBO in a while. Whilst The Sopranos and Sex In the City get all the critical attention and Today show fawning Arliss is the show that deserves all the accolades. It is all due to Robert Wuhl, the goofy reporter from Batman, who would have guessed? But the guy is a comic genius and this show is great. Every episode leaves you with a smile, even when they are serious, which some of them are. The sense of life in this series is very benevolent, which is what makes it so much better than the other two HBO series. The DVD is of great quality, only adding to the enjoyment. ... Read more

"Elizabeth! I'm comin, honey!" Those were the words oftenheard coming from 9114 South Central, home to Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx)and his son Lamont (Demond Wilson) - known more affectionately to each other as "Pop" and "Dummy" - and their junkyard business.Sanford and Son was the second TV series from Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin, whocreated the groundbreaking "All in the Family" the year before. "Sanford and Son" aired from 1972-1977 and was NBC's most popular prime-time series for four of its five seasons, earning four Emmy nominations and a Golden-Globe Award for Redd Foxx during its run. Enjoy this hysterical first season - or you'll get one across the lip. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Lamont, you big dummy!"
Complete first season of the hilarious sitcom about a 65 year old junk dealer, Fred Sanford(Redd Foxx), and his son/partner, Lamont (Demond Wilson) is a classic. The same people (Norman Lear, Bud Yorkin, etc.) who dominated 1970s television comedy by bringing us All in the Family (1971), Maude (1972), Good Times (1974), and The Jeffersons (1975) also did Sanford and Son (1972). Sanford & Son does not play much on TV anymore, so if you havent had the pleasure of seeing it, but are a fan of any of the previously listed shows I highly recommend it. Redd Foxx was a comedic genius and this show features his best work. This DVD set will feature the first 14 episodes (Jan - April 1972), here are the titles:

01) Crossed Swords
02) Happy Birthday, Pop
03) Here comes the bride, there goes the bride
04) The copper caper
05) A matter of life and breath
06) We were robbed
07) A pad for Lamont
08) The great Sanford Siege
09) Coffins for sale
10) The Barracuda
11) TV or not TV
12) The suitcase case
13) The return of the Barracuda
14) The piano movers

5-0 out of 5 stars Here Comes The Big One
This first season of Sanford and Son is the best! The episodes are hysterical, with Fred up to his usual old tricks, and Lamont being a big dummy. Get this and enjoy a good laugh.

5-0 out of 5 stars My all time favorite.
This is the season that changed the face of television. No longer were african-americans placed in the supporting role as Redd Foxx marched the show to the top of the charts with his antics. "Five across your lips" and "This is the big one" soon became household punchlines. Never before has a show impacted television as this program demonstrated life from the ghetto and how people, regardless of race, are really all the same!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars i love the 70's
great show. Lamount was annoying with a funny dad who owns a junkyard in california. enjoy the good and bad times of their life

5-0 out of 5 stars the comedic stylings of Redd Foxx
"Sanford and Son" was an American version of a British show "Steptoe and Son." The premise is the antics of junkman Fred Sanford and his son Lamont. Most of the episodes in the first season were basically adaptations of "Steptoe and Son" episodes.

Nevertheless, you get the entire first season here and it's worth every penny. Obviously, this show was ahead of its time and un p.c. as well. One significant plus with this first season is that you will get each episode in its entirety. TV Land obviously has to edit out certain parts (ie Fred using the N word)for today's audiences.

You also see the evolution of Fred and Lamont, along with Fred's buddy Melvin(played by longtime Redd Foxx partner Slappy White), and see early nemesis' of Fred like Aunt Hazel (Esther didn't appear until season two). All of the episodes are excellent, with my favorites being "Piano Movers", "Happy Birthday, Pop" "We Were Robbed", and "Color TV."

I can't emphasise how important this show was in the realm of pop culture and some of the issues tackled are still relevant today. Nothing like this will ever hit the airwaves again. Pick up the Season 2 and 3 sets as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
This is a classic series. I never get tired of watching. My kids love them. Hours of entertainment I never tire of watching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Redd Foxx is the GREATEST!!!
One thing I could always be sure of no matter what was happening in my life or what I might have been going through, "Sanford and Son" was a sure bet to snap me out of it and make me laugh so hard no matter how many times I had ever seen any particular episode. Foxx was a comic genius with delivery and timing that was unequaled.

Being somewhat of a "Sanford and Son purist", I have to say that I prefer the first three years of the show to the others. It wasn't that Redd Foxx was any less funny in later years, but sometimes the plotlines left something to be desired. Having said that, I would rather watch ANY episode of "Sanford and Son" from any season than much of what passes for comedy today.

What some people may not know is that when you get these DVD's you will get to see the complete, uncut, thirty minute episodes. On television reruns, there is always at least 5-7 minutes cut out of any episode. So if you think you have seen all of "Sanford and Son" you will be pleasantly surprised to see even more hilarious footage that you may never have seen before.

Get these-you won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome shows to watch over & over again.
Awesome show. Redd Foxx is hilarious to watch over & over again.
Well worth it to have in your own collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite show of all time
A definite classic masterpiece that should be in everyone's collection especially since it's not on TV

5-0 out of 5 stars Go Ahead, you know you want to...
I was watching Sanford and Son on cable the other day, and was surprised to find that they had actually edited the episode that they were showing to remove what are now considered "Politically Incorrect" words or statements. The thought police run amok. If like me, you don't like the thought of someone trying to rewrite or erase a part of history, no matter how distasteful they may now consider it to be, then do yourself a favor and get these dvd's. I bought them separately and paid almost twenty five dollars more that this package deal costs, so it is indeed a bargain. I can't wait for the next season to be released. Get them before someone decides to edit these as well!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Volume 3 -- Yep, It's Another Winning DvD Compilation!
Volume #3 in Image's "The Best Of The Dick Van Dyke Show" series of five single-disc DVDs digitally dishes up four more hilarious offerings from this landmark TV sitcom, which ran on CBS from 1961 to 1966.

Included amongst this disc's episodes is "Never Bathe On Saturday", which is one of the funniest episodes of any comedy series ever (in my humble opinion that is). :)

Here's this volume's list of programs (with air-date information) ..........

1.) "One Hundred Terrible Hours" (From Season 4; Air Date: 05/05/1965).

2.) "Uhny Uftz" (From Season 5; Air Date: 09/29/1965).

3.) "Never Bathe On Saturday" (From Season 4; Air Date: 03/31/1965).

4.) "The Secret Life Of Buddy And Sally" (From Season 2; Air Date: 11/28/1962).

---------------------------

A nice, funny assortment of Van Dyke Show entries indeed. These value-priced 4-episode "Best Of" discs are great for the Dick Van Dyke fan who doesn't want to necessarily collect *every* single episode via the also-available complete-season compilations offered through Image Entertainment.

These "Best Of" DVDs also contain some supplemental material, which is a pleasant surprise. Some interview footage is included here, as well as a short clip from another TV series starring Dick Van Dyke, "Diagnosis Murder", which has a "Van Dyke Show" tie-in.

Two additional "mini" extras on the disc are: "Meet The Cast" (text-only "biography" feature) and "The Ottoman Tripper" (trivia game).

Some more details & specs regarding this Best-Of volume:

"Play All Episodes" Option? -- Yes.
Subtitles? -- No.
Video Ratio -- Full Frame (1.33:1).
Audio -- 2-Channel Dolby Digital Mono (English).
Is There A Paper Insert? -- Yes.
Packaging -- Keep Case.
DVD Region Code -- "Zero".

If you get all 5 "Best Of" volumes, you'll have 20 of the finest sitcom episodes ever made. However, be forewarned --- purchasing these single-disc volumes will more-than-likely lead to the "I Want 'Em All" Syndrome. It's bound to happen after watching some of these well-written Van Dyke programs! You can try to resist buying them all (via the season sets), but it might prove futile. After all, a Van Dyke Show fan is only human ... right? :-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Tree
This movie has a lot of good performances, especially by the actors. I have to admit that this movie has special meaning for me, however, because of Rodney Dangerfield. In my front yard I have a tree that looks EXACTLY like Rodney Dangerfield, I mean EXACTLY. Just the other day a motorist driving by yelled "Hey, your tree looks like Rodney Dangerfield!" I'm hoping to put up a website with a picture of this tree soon so keep your eyes peeled.

Also, be warned: this DVD is in the overrated widescreen format. I was one of the very few supporters of the tallscreen format that enjoyed a mild popularity in mid-late April 1996 (only 3 films were shot in this unusual aspect ratio-"The Tall Guy," "Tall Marge," and "Big & Tall"). Needless to say, on my Tall-Screen Television set (60 inches high by 5 inches wide), I have to put up with enormous black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Nonetheless, this movie tells a great story. I would recommend ordering this item from Amazon (at least for us fat cats who own mailboxes).

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Rodney film EVER!!!!
I think the title says it all here, I could be the biggest fan of Rodney there is and I couldnt stomach this film. Gouge your eyes out before you watch it!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Shtick Sticks!
This movie only works 'cause it's Rodney Dangerfield. He has some bizzarely hilarious on screen presence that really gets me. His movie aren't classics, but they're really good for some belly laughs. I wish we could give half marks, because Wally deserves that EXTRA half of a star for it sex filled toilet humor that works every time. I wouldn't suggest buying it, for how many times can you watch Wally getting his nuts bitten by a squirl (don't answer that!)? But if your in the mood for crude mindless hilarity, Wally truely does 'spark', but sorry, no fireworks here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cold Shower Egypt!
Hey last night I met a girl she was so wild! How wild was she! She was so wild I gave her a virgin wool sweater...her body rejected it! This and many other comical pieces in MEET WALLY SPARKS make it a well-rounded film. Cameos by such famous people as Ron Jeremy and Tony Danza (playing a Taxi driver) make this film a must-see.

A line in the scene with Tony when Wally gets in his cab: Tony: Hey wait till I tell the boys I had you in my cab! Wally: Hey Tony first of all you never had me, and if you did have me it wouldn't be in a cab. Tony: Oh it kills me it kills me

5-0 out of 5 stars I still collapse on the floor from laughter every time!
The first time I watched this movie I was rolling on the ground clutching my stomach cause I was laughing so hard. It is rich with raunchy humor and is one of Rodneys best films to date. The best scene stealer involves a statues broken penis, which Rodney picks up and puts in his pocket, creating all kinds of mayhem. This is one of the absolutely most hillarious movies Ive seen. Also try Dirsty Work with Norm MacDonald. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Volume 5 Gives Us "Rosebud", A Boat In The House, And More!
Here come four additional "Dick Van Dyke Show" episodes for your edification and scrutiny. And you won't be disappointed. As with the other 4 volumes in this series of "The Best Of The Dick Van Dyke Show" from Image Entertainment, Inc., this fifth installment provides four excellent programs from the endearing TV situation comedy from the 1960s, plus a few bonus features tossed in for good measure.

Here are the episodes you'll see in Volume #5 ................

1.) "What's In A Middle Name?" (From Season 2; Air Date: 11/07/1962).

2.) "The Curious Thing About Women" (From Season 1; Air Date: 01/10/1962).

3.) "All About Eavesdropping" (From Season 2; Air Date: 10/23/1963). **

4.) "One Angry Man" (From Season 1; Air Date: 03/07/1962).

** = This episode is included in the "Season Two" boxed set from Image; but it actually aired during Season 3. It, however, was filmed at the end of the show's season-two production schedule. And, since the Image boxed sets of the series are arranged by "Production Order", it means "All About Eavesdropping" is included in the Season Two collection.

--------------------------

Picture quality reigns supreme on these re-mastered DVD versions of these Van Dyke episodes, and a more-than-adequate audio signal is achieved via the disc's 2-channel Dolby Digital soundtracks (in original Mono).

Bonus Material ...... "Rehearsal Footage" and Emmy Awards footage. A "Play All" feature is also included, along with a text "bio" section ("Meet The Cast") and a short trivia game called "The Ottoman Tripper".

Plus -- There's an additional bonus hiding as an "Easter Egg" on this disc. It's an original TV commercial for "Kent Cigarettes", featuring Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke on the set of the Van Dyke Show. To get to the Egg, go to the Chapter Menu for the episode "What's In A Middle Name?", and "Left Click" while the "Opening Titles" chapter is highlighted. This will take you directly to the hidden TV commercial, without another remote-control keystroke required.

More disc information .................

Video -- Full Frame (1.33:1).
Audio -- English Dolby Digital Mono.
Subtitles? -- No.
Paper Insert? -- Yes.
DVD Region Code -- "Zero".
Packaging -- Keep Case.

These four episodes are all winners in my DvD book. You'll find out why Ritchie's middle name is "Rosebud"; you'll see Laura's "curiosity" produce some hilarious results; and in the classic "Eavesdropping" episode, you'll see the funniest game of "charades" ever filmed! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 4 Banner Episodes, Including The First Show! Plus The Pilot!
Image Entertainment has produced five single-disc "Best Of" volumes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" for fans of this timeless 1960s situation comedy who might not want to dive head-first into the more costly full-season DVD boxed sets.

Each one of these five separately-available DVDs contains four Van Dyke Show episodes. Now we all know that these type of "Best Of" dealies are not going to please everybody. Each fan has his or her own "favorites" list. However, in the case of "The Dick Van Dyke Show", it'd be hard to get a "bad apple", in my opinion. Nearly *all* of the 158 episodes during the program's 5-year duration on the air are "favorites" as far as I'm concerned. Overall, I think fans of the show should be pleased with the episodes that Image has selected from the Van Dyke Show archives for these five "Best Of" DVD-Video discs.

This first volume has the following episodes ...........

1.) "The Sick Boy And The Sitter" (From Season 1 [Premiere Episode]; Air Date: 10/03/1961).

2.) "Big Max Calvada" (From Season 3; Air Date: 11/20/1963).

3.) "Coast-To-Coast Big Mouth" (From Season 5; Air Date: 09/15/1965).

4.) "Dear Sally Rogers" (From Season 5; Air Date: 02/23/1966).

---------------------------

Picture quality is virtually perfect for all the above episodes, thanks to the great-looking Film-to-DVD transfers used by Image and Paul Brownstein Productions.

There's even a batch of "Bonus" features on each of these "Best Of" volumes, making these value-priced discs even a better bargain! ..... Extra bonuses for Volume 1 include the complete "Pilot" episode for "The Dick Van Dyke Show", called "Head Of The Family" -- which stars Carl Reiner as Rob Petrie. There are also some interview clips with members of the cast and crew, plus a video clip (in color) from the 1966 Emmy Awards telecast.

Plus: There's a text "bio" feature ("Meet The Cast"), along with a trivia game ("The Ottoman Tripper"). In addition, this disc contains a "Play All" option, for continuous playing of all four episodes back-to-back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barney Is Back
This is a great Set of 8 of the best Andy Griffith Show featuring the unforgettable Barney Fife.

The only down fall is that they don't include the origional theme song.

2-0 out of 5 stars At Least it Has Barney
Call me a crybaby, but I couldn't get over the fact that the music is not the original music. I had to fast forward each intro due to the horrible tune. Yuck! At least the shows feature Barney.

One thing to look out for is that many if these DVDs have the same episodes, just recycled into different packaging. I found this out after I bought "The Best of the Andy Griffith Show" and "The Best of Barney" in an Amazon package deal. Those 16 episodes are the same as the 16 on "The Best of the Andy Griffith Show 16 Episodes". Oh well. (The later DVD set is much better.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible DVD
Please do not waste your time buying this DVD! Half of the feature would not work, the episode would skip and the theme song is some cheap knock-off. I was very disappointed with the whole DVD. I wish someone would come out with the Andy show in seasons like any other respectable show. Please give this show some dignity and respect.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Almost Best of Barney
This DVD has a few bonus features but once you do it once it gets boring I hope this review was helpful to you. NNOOOOOTTTT

5-0 out of 5 stars The best televison show ever made!!!!!!!!
This DVD is one of the best quality Andy Griffith collection out there. I have seen a few other DVDs that the picture and sound quality is so poor its hard to enjoy. The quality here is great considering how old AG Show is. Plus if your a Barney Fife fan like me, you'll enjoy every one of the episodes. This DVD takes you back to the simple life in Mayberry NC, and is one the whole family will watch over and over again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Best Of" Volume 2 = Walnuts, Baby Confusion, And Flashbacks
This second volume in Image Entertainment's "Best Of" series of DVDs serves up four more memorable episodes from one of the greatest TV shows of all-time: "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

Watch the following four eps. in glorious restored and re-mastered Digital clarity ..........

1.) "Where Did I Come From?" (From Season 1; Air Date: 01/03/1962).

2.) "That's My Boy??" (From Season 3; Air Date: 09/25/1963).

3.) "It May Look Like A Walnut" (From Season 2; Air Date: 02/06/1963).

4.) "October Eve" (From Season 3; Air Date: 04/08/1964).

--------------------------

These four episodes are, without fear of (much) argument, four of the all-time best that this great 1960s TV series has to offer. Each one resides in the "classic" drawer, IMO.

Image has even seen fit to include some bonus material here, which consists of: An Emmy Awards video clip; cast interview snippets; a 23-minute "Making Of" featurette focusing on the "Walnut" episode; a "Meet The Cast" section (which consists of text-only "mini-bios" for the cast members); and a cute extra called "The Ottoman Tripper", which is a 1-question trivia game. If you select the wrong answer to the question, you're taken to a film clip from the opening titles of the show where Rob trips over the living-room ottoman. A correct guess affords you a clip of Rob sidestepping the ottoman. A "Play All" option is also included.

NOTE: On Image's season boxed sets, three of these four episodes have Audio Commentary Tracks (all except the "Walnut" ep.). However, those star commentaries have *not* been included for this single-disc version of these episodes. So, if you want to hear any Commentary Tracks, you'll have to get the full-season sets.

Video quality is outstanding for these shows, with the Dolby Digital sound garnering equal praise.

Some additional info regarding this disc .............

Video Aspect Ratio -- 1.33:1 (Full Frame).
Audio -- DD 2.0 English Mono.
Subtitles? -- No.
DVD Region Code -- "Zero".
Insert Included? -- Yes.
Packaging -- Keep Case.

It's oh so very hard to pick a "Best" among these excellent "Best Of" volumes that Image Entertainment has released for fans of the show who want to collect just *some* of the great shows from Dick Van Dyke's series. But if I were *forced* (at gunpoint) to choose just one of the five discs to buy, I might just have to go with this "Volume #2". Four LOL-inducing episodes, all with a high re-watchability factor built into each one. You can't go wrong when you select any of the shows on this DVD! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Andy and Barney at their funniest!
From the fall of 1960 when the Andy Griffith Show premiered to spring 1965 when Don Knotts left the series,Mayberry sheriff Andy Taylor(Griffith) and deputy Barney Fife(Knotts) were in constant partnership when at the police station in Mayberry. This package contains the first humorous police work on screen, big or small. Later there would be humorous police work on "Barney Miller" and the "Police Academy" movies. Giving Griffith and Knotts moral support are Ronny Howard as Andy's son Opie and the late Frances Bavier as Andy's aunt Bee. Howard later would star as Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days" and become one of Hollywood's best-loved movie directors. Griffith would star on "Matlock" and Knotts would join the "Three's Company" cast as landlord Ralph Furley. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait...DO NOT buy this DVD
Dismal picture quality (it looks like it was literally recorded off the air by somebody using a consumer DVD recorder). WAIT until somebody decides to release quality sets. I am sure the original masters exist; they are valuable enough that at some point the whole series will be released. MONEY and greed talk. In the meantime, just tape or DVD record your OWN episodes off TV for free...you'll get better quality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Antenna quality- Can anyone do any better????? PLEASE
This particular DVD set is NOT of very good quality. But being a true TAGS fan, I'll take what I can get. I still LOVE watching the hilarious comedy while overlooking the poor picture and sound. It's true what they say "You get what you pay for", this set's quality matches the price. For now, this is about the best you can get, if you are willing to overlook the quality. Just pretend it's 1963. It's about the same quality sound and picture as back then, if you had good antenna reception.
But can anyone do any better? PLEASE
Some years ago a company put out the Andy Griffith Show on VHS, four episodes per tape. (Great Quality)
It's time for them to do the same on DVD. PLEASE?
I speak for all TRUE TAGS Fans, when I say, We WILL buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled!
Ok, I am one of the biggest fans of the Andy Griffith show. And I'm even more of a fan of Don Knotts. BUT, this DVD is worthless for one reason - its video quality is worse than broadcast television (I'm not kidding). I bought this at a local store that won't take returns on opened DVD's, so I lost out. What a waste of money. Don't buy it!

If you want a great Don Knotts movie on DVD, buy "The Shakiest Gun in the West". Its absolutely perfect in every way! (as far as Don Knotts movies go)

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even have to buy it to know
You only have to read two reviews to know what this is--a piece of garbage.

It is truly a shame that whoever owns these shows doesn't clean up THE ORIGINALS & release them as per-season box sets. Other shows of this era are being released--Why not this one?! Are they so mired in legal matters that it can't be done? I've often wondered.

Can you begin to imagine how many they could sell? You just know that at least a million customers would go out & buy all 5 of the B&W seasons. That's $125 (5 box sets) x 1,000,000 = 125-million bucks at least. 'Not enough return I suppose.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best DVD available for this show!
I grew up just after the shows original run ended and watched this show frequently in syndication. It is a great show that blends comedy, drama and moral lessons. In recent years I have tried to tape the entire 8 year show off of tv and have found that usually several minutes of the show are cut out to make room for more commercials. This really ticks me off!! When a show like TAGS is already made to fit commercials in why do tv and cable stations feel the need to remove 3 to 5 minutes of the show to fit in additonal commericals?

Anyway, I've looked forward to TAGS on DVD and recently my wife purchased this 16 episode 2 DVD package for me. My version does not have the original theme song during the opening and ending credits but rather some poorly done replacement tune. This is a real downer as I, like everyone else, enjoy the original theme song. It helps set the mood for TAGS. However, the shows themselves are fine and the picture quality good. It also has the complete shows.

My version of this DVD has some retro commercials in between some of the episodes. It also has some old cartoons such as POPEYE between the episodes. I rather enjoy these old commercials and cartoons. It reminds me of my childhood when I would watch TAGS in the afternoon in syndication followed by the afternoon cartoons.

So while I eagerly await a boxed set of season by season episodes of TAGS along with the original theme this DVD will tide me over. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars What Could Have Been...
I would have started out this review by saying that "LaserLight" should be ashamed for putting something like this out, but then I realized I have never heard of "LaserLight" and DVDs of this quality may very well explain why. I am a closet Wonder Years fan, and I was eagerly anticipating this "Best of" compilation. Unfortunately, all the reviews before mine accurately sum up every one of the faults of this DVD. The disc only has one episode on it, with a "Highlights" section preceding this lonely episode to round out the paltry 71 minutes of material. Admittedly, I found that the editing done during the "Highlights" portion was accomplished reasonably well, with no harsh jumps or obvious transition flaws. The section does not, however, lay any type of background down about the show or its characters before sending the viewer off to the Series Finale. Tech. wise my biggest complaint was the audio, it was atrocious. A TV show of this caliber deserves so much more and I can only hope that at some point (in the near future?) a company goes back and does it justice, for this DVD surely doesn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Show
I used to watch this show when i was a little kid, right before it ended. I really felt that this show was an accurate depiction of life issues and i really feel that alot with what i am going through in high school is shown in this show with great accuracy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Show, Fair DVD
The visual side of all The Wonder Years DVDs are certainely good enough for the average viewer. The audio, however, for some reason does not contain the original WG Snuffy Walden score music. I'm sure it had something to do with licensing but its very unfortunate. The original score was so seamless and powerful, I hated to see a cheesey replacement used instead. Maybe someday we'll have a newly remastered entire series on DVD like we finally go for My So-Called Life.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the wonder years
This is the last 2 episodes of the series, the end of such a great TV show. Also some good highlights from all of the shows. If you have watched all the TV episodes, Im sure at some point in your life you have experienced The Wonder Years.

I have lost my copy of this great DVD and urgently require it.
...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonderful Wonder Years
I seriously miss this show, and this DVD lets me watch my favorite episodes (114/115). I was always dissapointed with the way the show ended, but I love the show and feel deeply connected to it. ... Read more
