If you have an appetite for Sicilian soapers, then you're like all those other people who made Mario Puzo's The Last Don the highest Nielsen-rated show for the week in mid-May 1997 when it originally aired. And who could blame you, since the story line of this TV miniseries is chock-full of all the familiar elements that make up a bestseller--power, money, sex, murder, gambling, madness, fame, Hollywood, loyalties made and broken. The story proper begins with a little Romeo and Juliet when Rose Marie, daughter of Don Domenico Clericuzio (Danny Aiello), falls for the youngest son of the warring Santadio family. On their wedding night, Rose Marie's new husband and the entire Santadio family are slaughtered by the Clericuzios to avoid further conflict between the two families, and Rose Marie goes completely insane and grows up to be Kirstie Alley. But not before she gives birth to another Santadio, Dante (so named because he has to live in Hell), in whom she invests all her hatred for her own family. So he grows up to be a psychotic hitman, played with sly and sadistic ingenuity by Rory Cochrane. TheClericuzios' chief executioner, Pippi (played with smooth aplomb by JoeMantegna), is responsible for killing Rose Marie's husband, and wants his own son, metaphorically overburdened with the name "Cross," to follow in his footsteps. The sins of the fathers are visiting all over the sons in this picture, and naturally the two kids will have to resolve this inheritance. The acting is the main attraction here.Aiello in particular invests The Don with a stately grace that is just right. --Jim Gay ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The Last Don You'll Ever Need
Every customer reviewer ahead of me has given this movie five stars! They must be confusing it with THE GODFATHER Parts 1 and 2. Either that, or they would give THE GODFATHER PART 3 five stars! Danny Aiello sleepwalks through his part. Joe Mantagna is inconsistent from scene to scene. The movie as a whole is extremely inconsistent, but it doesn't matter, because the people who saw it as a mini-series were seeing blaring ads intersperced throughout and were watching it over several nights (or even missing a night in between, without noticing anything missing!) A miniseries on TV is a hit if every seven-minute episode packs a punch, and this one does, except that if you remember the earlier punches, the later ones fizzle out. For example, Aiello doesn't mind if his own mob kills his own daughter, even though she posed no threat to him (it turns out she wasn't shot because Mantegna has one of his inconsistent changes of heart). But when it comes to Aiello's grandson, who Aiello knows is posing a lethal threat to the entire family, Aiello can't bring himself to order the hit, because "well, he's my grandson." Great sir, but what about your daughter? The interesting thing here is that it doesn't matter to those who saw the show on TV; they will have forgotten the beginning by the time of the end. But if you see it all at once, as I did, then you'll have these problems. I do want to say that the movie has its entertainment value if you suspend disbelief in the characters and the plot. I think it's a very solid two star attraction. Any more stars than that? Well, maybe if you're awarding bullets instead of stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Don
This is one of the best scripts ever penned by the great author of the Godfather and Omerta. As far as this movie is concerned as a film then again it must score very highly. Although it is not the epic marathon of the Godfather and because of this is more accesible. The screen photography is great while the acting is as good as youd expect from actors commisioned by Puzo
The godfather was a very hard act to follow and this is the one film in an increasingly popular genre that can match the great epic.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mafia Drama, good in its own right
I believe that, for a smaller production ( ie less expensive ) this is actually a Great movie. However, it doesnt compare to Godfather for example. Still I almost loved this film. But I believe that This movie , unlike other gangster movies, could have a bit more of cruelty and extreme violence ( who saw Casino and Goodfellas know what I am talking about ) which are an indispensable *sauce* for any gangsta movs. still a good Mafia production, alutought, not 5 stars ( Id actually rate it 3 and a half stars if it was possible ).

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing
the last don is one of the most amazing gangster film's ever made it is on the same ratings as The Godfather. the acting is outstanding especially by the lovely Jason Gedrick. if you have not seen this film i suggest you do so, otherwise you will be missing out on one of the greatest movies ever made.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR THE TRUE MAFIA FAN
I JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE, YOU MUST ADD THIS TO YOUR OTHER DVD'S, I PURCHASED IT ON DVD OVER A YEAR AGO, THERE MUST BE A SPECIAL ADDITION COMING NEXT YEAR, CAN'T WAIT FOR BELLA MAFIA, AND LOVE HONOR AND OBEY THE LAST MAFIA WEDDING, WHICH IS THE BONANO FAMILY STORY, ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This DVD is excellent
For those who have seen The Last Don or the Godfather they will not be disapointed with his latest creation The Last Don 2 it has all the earmarking's of a Mario Puzo story with great performances by Jason Gedrick and Kristie Alley. The movie centers around the Clericuzio family and in this sequel to the Last Don Cross Jason Gedrick's character is brought back this time to be the driving force behind the family and It's saviour. The Last Don 2 as in the first movie has some interesting parallels to Hollywood and Mob life suggesting that they are similar worlds. Although I strongly reccomend this movie I believe to fully enjoy it you must see the first of this series The Last Don. And if your A Mario Puzo fan you wont be sorry for watching this Movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad follow-up
First let me say to the guy that said Mario must have turned in his grave, he was alive and involved with this production when it was filmed. You should research before making a fool commment and then following it by a stab at mentally handicapped people, you must be quite the human being!

Anyway, like was said this picks up where "The Last Don" left off. Not bad for Television and if you are a fan of Mob-style movies, this is a great endcap to the Mario Puzo legacy. I always thought Joe Mantenga stole the show in "The Last Don" and it's great to have him reprise his role again although the focus is mainly on the younger generation. This may not be "The Sopranos" but very entertaining none the less.

3-0 out of 5 stars the last don II
i think the last don II was a good movie about the mob. i think it would be good for part III was made so people like me can enjoy watching.

1-0 out of 5 stars Slightly less entertaining than root canal surgery
Anyone rating this movie more than one star needs to have their head examined. Mario Puzo is turning over in his grave, having his name associated with this "movie". There is a good possibility that the screenplay was written by the 4-year-old autistic girl Bethany. The terms "plot", "transition" and "cohesion" are clearly not in the writer's vocabulary. 127 minutes of my life that I will never be able to get back.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine entertainment--not quite up to Part 1
I really enjoyed "The Last Don" (Part 1). Although it wasn't quite the masterpiece that "The Godfather" was, I thought it was more true-to-life than the great classic. "The Last Don" saga deals with the modern mafia, and the efforts of the head of the Clericuzio family to extricate his family from crime, and enter the legitimate world with his empire's wealth intact.

Part 2 picks up exactly where Part 1 ends. In my opinion Part 2 is quite watchable, and constitutes good entertainment. It is not quite up to Part 1. Certain segments of it seem over-acted and perhaps overly simplistic--it lacked the twists and surprises that made Part 1 such a delight. Most of the time I felt that I knew exactly where Part 2 was taking us.

Notwithstanding my criticisms, this is a very entertaining sequel. Its portrayal of Hollywood is very funny, and there are certain components of the film that I frankly am surprised did not get someone sued. Spoiler omitted here, but if you watch Part 2 you will most surely know exactly what I mean.

I enjoyed it. ... Read more

Amazon.com essential video

Jessica Lange gives a career performance in a role she was born to play:the talented and troubled Frances Farmer. Farmer's awful trajectory travels from bright Seattle girl to 1930s Hollywood starlet to degraded (eventually lobotomized) mental patient. Lange, who has the blond, clean look of Farmer's heyday, goes into these places with the fierce abandon of a true believer. Her performance, the lush John Barry score, and the period re-creation are all worth applauding; almost everything else fails. Everyone except Farmer is grotesquely caricatured to fit the movie's thesis, which is that if you are intelligent and nonconformist, the system will resolutely destroy you. (The medical establishment is evil incarnate.) This simple conclusion seems inadequate and disrespectful of Frances Farmer's tragic problems. For a radiant glimpse of what the real Farmer had to offer, see Howard Hawks's Come and Get It, which bristles with excitement over a new discovery. --Robert Horton ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The troubled life of Frances Farmer. Bravo to Jessica Lange
This is the story of Frances Farmer told from age 16 to 44. She became an actress but had such a troubled life and a troubled mind. Perhaps it began with her mother's insistance, or an undercover reporter, and the loss of her job from a touring play company. But what ever it was that was the constant pecking, it finally made her snap. You know the phrase, "the last straw that broke the camel's back". She ended up unwillingly in a mental institution. But still that's not all to this story. This film is raw, mature, shocking and brilliantly and masterfully dramatized by Jessica Lange who plays Frances Farmer. This film, at times, is disturbing to watch. But it was real and it did happen. I think, in my opinion, Frances Farmer's problem was not Hollywood, but her mother and being in the institution three times made Frances 200% worse. Some people can be so cruel towards another human. And never back off or make a block and totally destory the destiny of that one's life. What could have been is shattered because of that one evil person. The natural timeline has been cut. Farmer's last film was Son Of Fury (1942) until 1958. Frances Farmer had a labotomy and after a 16-year absence, returned in 1958 to do one more film, The Party Crashers (1958) which would be her last film. This DVD version has a chapter selection. No extras, no bonuses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jessica Lange gives a harrowing performance
This 1982 biographical film about the life of tragic 30's movie star Frances Farmer showcases brilliant Oscar nominated performances by Jessica Lange and Kim Stanley. It details Farmer's rise to stardom and her destruction by the one person on earth who is supposed to love and nurture, her mother. Uneven script is overshadowed by truly great acting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinaria película

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Character Portrayal
Jessica Lange does not capture the personality of Frances Farmer well at all: when not hysterical, Lange portrays Farmer as somewhat simpering, rather than the bold, brassy figure that Farmer actually was; but I don't entirely blame Lange for this huge character portrayal gaffe: When viewing the extra material on the DVD, it soon become QUITE clear that the makers of this movie were more interested in themselves than their actual subject matter: The extra material included is nothing but a bunch of mutual back-slapping among a few Hollywood yuppies, and the references to Farmer are very much extraneous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jessica Lange simply brilliant as Frances
I originally saw this as a teenager and even then, thought that Jessica Lange was brilliant. Just the other night I had the pleasure of seeing this film again, and once again felt that Jessica Lange was marvellous in her role as Frances Farmer. The film is also very well paced and engaging.

If you think back to 1982, it was a huge year for Hollywood. So many powerful films came out and it was definitely a year for the actresses. Jessica Lange was up against Meryl Streep in "Sophie's Choice". The Academy gave the best actress to Meryl Streep, but you cannot argue that Jessical Lange was equally as good in "Frances". She won the best supporting actress that year instead for her role in Tootsie.

Frances is a film quite unknown to many, and that surprises me, because it is a gem of a film. I realise that there has been many debates over the facts, but it does say at the beginning of the film "based on a true story".

Jessica Lange is one of the greatest actresses of our time. Other Jessica films I recommend are: The Music Box, Cape Fear, Tootsie and Blue Sky. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I liked it better 12 years ago.
This movie was awesome when I first saw it, but I was 13. I recently bought this movie for my younger brother because he's into the skating thing and there aren't many movies like this being made. As I was watching I noticed the acting to be very mediocre but the plot was pretty solid.

The best thing about this movie is the skateboarding celebrities doing a little acting. Tony Hawk being one of them. There's a lot of "old school" skate tricks going on and just looking at the huge boards they used shows how much stuff has evolved.

Overall I think this will appeal to the younger teen audience. If you're interested in that genre though, this is a must have classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Faerie Tale Theatre: The Three Little Pigs
Hilarious episode from the Faerie Tale Theatre series with an all-star cast. Billy Crystal as well as his on-screen brother actors are excellent as the three pigs, and Jeff Goldblum is show-stealing as the Big Bad Wolf. Valerie Perrine is a knock-out and makes a surprisingly sexy pig in this faerie tale. A great comedic hit for the entire family to enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this series!
My brother, sisters and I grew up watching the Faerie Tale Theatre collection, and loving them all. By the way, they're not just for kids! My mother loved them so much she went out of her way to find them for my little niece to enjoy. I highly recommend them to anyone with (or even without) children to view them!

4-0 out of 5 stars cute and appealing
Billy Crystal, Valerie Perrine, Doris Roberts and Jeff Goldblum star in the new telling of the tale from FAERIE TALE THEATRE.

One of the more light-hearted entries in the series, its a delightfully comic piece, played out by master comedians Crystal and Roberts, with the beautiful Perrine cutting a mean figure as a porker indeed.

The series was a huge success, boasting a huge multi award-winning cast (Tonys, Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, Golden Globes, etc), and creator/producer Shelly Duvall has earned laurels for one of the finest family series in years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Fairie Tale Theatres
I must have rented this video 40-50 times for my then pre-school age son and daughter. We all had the lines memorized. Billy Crystal is terrific as one of the pigs (Peter, Paul and Larry) and Jeff Goldblum is a howl as the wolf. The whole cast is great. This is truly a film that everyone in the family will love. The best.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Unforgettable as Nat
This was a household staple rented over and over from our local video store, played over and over for all ages whenever our guests seemed willing. There was never ever anything but laughter and appreciation; I'm still trying to find the Samuel Barber music played just so. 5-0 out of 5 stars my personal fairy tale theatre movie
If your looking for a fairy tale for kids that can make even you laugh this is the one. Robin Williams will lighten the mood every time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bad for Children
This film contains language and sexual content. Robin Williams uses profanity and parental discretion is advised. It is a funny telling of the story for adults but not younger viewers... Parents should watch the movie first to decide if it is appropiate for their children, and trust me, it isn't!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Undoubtably one of the best Faerie Tale Theatre videos.
This episode of The Tale of the Frog Prince, starring the hilarious Robin Williams and wonderful Teri Garr, is not only a very well told classic children's tale, but a comedy. It has plenty of bits an adult would find entertaining, none being underhand or crude, while still amusing to a younger audience. I grew up watching this series; I loved it then, and I still love it now ... A very good movie to see, and a deal if you can buy it anywhere!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, but for adults
This is a hilariously funny version of a children`s fairy tale. Both Robin Williams and Teri Garr do a superb job in their portrayals of the frog-prince and the princess, but you will, most likely, be surprised at how well Rene Aberjonois (Clayton, fron the t.v. series Benson) does comedy. The only caveat is that because of the language and some the situations I would not recommend this video for pre-teens, but anyone else will definitely be amused! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Utterly Enjoyable!
The Fairy Tale Theatre Series is wonderful. I watched them as a child, and still enjoy watching them. This one especially. It makes you laugh and at the same time has enough scare to it to make a child feel that they just watched their first horror movie. In actuality there there is nothing horrible about it. A perfect family entertainment movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definite kid-pleaser
My three-year-old daughter fell in love with this the first time we borrowed it from the library. I enjoyed it myself; my only gripe is Conchata Ferrell's performance. This usually very talented actress seems bored to tears and injects absolutely no feeling into her role as Thumbelina's mother. It's as if she was directed to perform as stoically as possible. I don't get it at all. I am also not impressed with Carrie Fisher's singing here. I know she is capable of singing quite beautifully, I just don't think the folkish songs in this tale are well suited to her instrument. It's hard to pull off such dirges unless the singer has that ethereal, almost mediaeval quality to her voice (think Loreena McKennitt, Mediaveal Baebes). But those minor complaints are of no consequence whatsoever to the intended audience. Children will certainly be enchanted! It's witty script and a fun production.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Little Thumb with a Big Heart
"Thumbelina" is a fantastic retelling of the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, "Little Thumb".

Produced in 1983 (and released the following year), as part of Shelley Duvall's charming live-action "Faerie Tale Theatre", the narrative is told with good humour, imagination, and a great sense of fun. The magnificent cast adds much colour and warmth to the proceedings. In particular, Carrie Fisher, in the title role, delivers a captivating performance. She makes an extremely attractive heroine, not to mention one who's "more than just another pretty face". She's an absolute delight, adding her unique qualities to the role. Not only is she pint-sized in real life (although not quite as tiny as a thumb!), she has a lovely, deep voice that is quite at odds with her diminutive stature. When she sings, it is a beautiful and rewarding experience. Indeed, she sings with "an angel's voice". (This is also a highlight for any Carrie Fisher fan, as she began her career as a singer, and yet she only sings briefly in "Hannah and Her Sisters", 1986, and in the Walt Disney live-action comedy, "Sunday Drive", also released in 1986.)

Carrie Fisher is supported by equally delightful character actors. The late Burgess Meredith is in top form as Mr Mole, the second would-be husband of Thumbelina. Likewise, William Katt makes a very positive impression as the Prince of the Flower Angels.

This wonderful fairy tale is further enhanced by excellent production values, including great music, atmospheric sets, and good costumes and creatures like Mother Toad, her hapless son, Herman, the Fieldmouse, and the Swallow.

The script faithfully follows the original story, although the gender of the Fieldmouse has been changed, making for a more convincing friendship with Mr Mole to exist, as well as creating a heartfelt guardianship of Thumbelina along strictly platonic lines.

This well-written and perceptive tale ("I'm always the bride, but never the bridesmaid") makes for enchanting family entertainment. "Thumbelina" delivers a great message, too, but above all, it's storytelling at it's most memorable.

I applaud executive producer Shelley Duvall, and all involved, for giving such a wonderful gift. It's up there with Jim Henson's equally engaging "Storyteller" anthology series, produced in the late 1980s, and the "The Doll", an Emmy Award winning episode of "Amazing Stories" (of the same era).

For me, it's an extra special treat because Carrie Fisher became much more than just Princess Leia with this performance. Besides, she continues to melt me every time she smiles as the Ultimate Flower Angel! Let's hope that this "Faerie Tale Theatre" production, along with my other favourites like "Beauty and the Beast", are re-released soon. Preservation on DVD for future generations is highly recommended. ... Read more

I enjoyed this movie. It is a mystery with a twist (the best kind) and since I enjoy the three main actors in the "triangle" (Andie, Liam, and Viggo) it was fun to wait for new and different scenes to compare (and on which to speculate) as the characters developed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally awful!1
This film had great potential; however, watching Andie McDowell "act" was so painful, my teeth ached. Her dead-slow presence and stiff dialogue served as a perfect foil for Liam Neeson, who redeemed the film with his natural talent. You could almost see the cogs turning in McDowell's mind as she struggled to remember her lines. This would have worked for me, had *anyone* but McDowell been cast as the lead.

3-0 out of 5 stars A ok movie
This was a serious drama and I love dramas. But this movie is the kind of drama were you can sort of grow out or the drama in it. It seems like theres too much drama and that made this movie sour and a little mocking. I say take it or leave it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite childhood movie!
My sister and I were recently discussing our favorite movies when we were little. And this one was it. We had the disney movies and stuff, but this movie is funny and a great story. We use to watch this movie a lot! A great, perfect movie for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fond Memories
I rented every volume of the Faerie Tale Theatre that the video store had at least 100 times when I was a kid. All these years later, this is the one I remember the most. That must say something for the quality of this story. Kids and parents will love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Princess Who Had Never Laughed
I really enjoyed this movie. It was very comical. It's the funniest Faerie Tale Theatre film I've seen yet. And it teaches a very good moral too! A great family film! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Jonathon Schaech is film noir phy-zine
Enough talk about the woman in the movie. Let the ladies have their say, because Mr. Jonathon Schaech was looking particularly tender in this psycho chop flick. I've seen him in other movies, but never "noticed" him before this film. I'm new to him as an actor; but I'll look deeper, now that I've seen him in this. He's got those psycho-drama eyes that just draw you in.
I personally think that he should be cast in some more mentally challenging film of completely non-Hollywood context, and a non-Hollywood cast.... definitely over any sea he'd blossom. Non- American actors and director. As I've said I don't much about him, so he may have been down all these avenues, and I haven't had the chance to check him out. His eyes alone say a lot more than the script of this film.

3-0 out of 5 stars For Henstrich fans only
If you are willing to watch Natasha Henstrich in virtually anything, then this movie is a good bet for you. It's a watchable if fairly predictable thriller, in which the main plus is that Natasha does indeed graciously show us her fabulous naked breasts. If that's reason enough to check it out, then I can recommend that you rent or buy this flic. If on the other hand, you are looking for an action-packed movie with a charismatic bad guy and an eye opening climactic conclusion, I'm afraid you will be sadly disappointed by this film.

1-0 out of 5 stars Drivel
I bought this because I'd watch Natasha Henstridge in anything but this is just awful, wooden acting, shoddily scripted, twists that you can see a mile off, and even the obligatory [love making] scene with Natashas top off, (thrown in for no purpose) is done so badly you just wonder why anyone bothered. Anyone who sees Natasha Henstridge wonders why she hasnt become a star, look no further than this, your only as good as your last movie and this [stinks]!!! There is only one way to enjoy this film...never see it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Stunning!
If you like movies, this one is for you! Filled with everyhting to keep you watching, you wont be dissapointed! I guarantee it. Beautifully scripted, and well executed "Caracara" will be a movie you want for your video/dvd library. ... Read more

This is a great movie. It's real light hearted and comical. The characters are all very love-able, except for the ogre of course! 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Faerie Tale Theatre Ever!
I would have to agree with the previous review that this is the best episode of Faerie Tale Theatre. In adapting faerie tales for film or television, the biggest difficulty seems to be in capturing that sense of awe and wonder that the original stories invoke. Without picture illustrations and a child's imagination to fill in the blanks, the original stories often appear static and lifeless on the screen. At worst, the sublime becomes downright ridiculous. Faerie Tale Theatre is a great and entertaining show, but rarely has it captured that sense of magic. This episode is one time that is has, and the results are truly something to behold. Eric Idle is the only "name" here, but the rest of the cast is equally perfect in their roles. Nicholas Meyer creates an entire other world, utilizing medieval tones in setting and costumes, as well as an eerie score of pipes from composer James Horner. The effect is mesmerizing, and if the use of rhyme as dialogue takes some getting used to, it only adds to the haunting impact in the end. This episode may be too disturbing for the youngest children, but all lovers of faerie tales owe it to themselves to see this. It doesn't have the budget of big-screen fantasies, but I rank this right up there with the NeverEnding Story and the Dark Crystal. If you love those films, then you understand what I mean about the sublime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and surreal...as fairy tales should be.
In the early to mid eighties, Shelly Duvall produced a cable show for the then flagship HBO network called Faerie Tale Theatre. The intent was to bring classic childhood stories to an audience of young and old alike through big name stars, directors, and hip, irreverent writing. Without this series, there would not have been a "Princess Bride". Although many of these were excellent examples of the best television could offer, the finest hour (for me) was director Nicholas Meyer's interpretation of Robert Browning's "Pied Piper of Hamelin". Both faithful to the original poem and liberal in its creative embellishments, Meyer perfectly captured the eerieness of the story. The show starred Eric Idle and he makes a perfect Piper. Tall, pale, with piercing eyes and a hawklike nose, Idle looke every bit the character: part mystic, part mercenary. And his final march out of Hamelin with the children is truly the stuff of innocent nightmares. Without sentimentality, without any concession to cuteness, this episode proved that within all great children's stories lurked something magical and sinister...Just like adulthood. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars JONSIN' FOR SEASON TWO
I am a huge David Lynch fan. ESPECIALY Twin Peaks. I own the episodes on VHS (as horrible in quality as they are), and was so happy when I found season one on DVD. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the DVDs (especialy after wearing out the already bad VHS tapes). What I enjoy most with the DVDs, in comparison to the VHS tapes (aside from the obvious quality improvement), is the optional intro with the Log Lady.

In some false hope that the powers that be may read this I have to ask, why couldn't the entire series have been put into one package as was done with the VHS tapes to begin with? The first season was really only a half season anyway. I beg you to release the second season on DVD, even if it is through an order form as a previous "review" suggested. This is seriously torture thinking that I may have to revert to my VHS tapes forever to finish the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars don't toss your crummy vhs copy of season two yet
Hmph, website won't let me withhold my rating.

Taking skawes' Dec. 1 advice, I just spoke over the phone with an individual from Artisan's Home Entertainment division and learned that a Season Two DVD set doesn't show up anywhere on Artisan's 2003 production calendar.

This probably means either:
1)they're not making anything public (I didn't pretend to be a Hollywood Video regional purchaser or anything),
2)they haven't acquired the rights for dvd production (I'm guessing that's not the case, although the person who I spoke to wasn't sure), or
3)they really don't see a point in pursuing what many still misperceive as a stagnant cult market...

...which is unfortunate. I've owned the Season One DVDs for over a year, but I've resisted watching them until the rest of the series is released. I don't think I could bear watching 7 beautifully remastered, dolby digital, crystal clear, tear-inducing episodes only to be forced to revert to my old stretched out fuzzy vhs tapes for season two. better to wait. another year.. maybe more...

5-0 out of 5 stars Lynch's Genius - Fans' Frustration
I am also a frustrated fan. I don't even have the luxury of having a set of crappy VHS tapes. I have not yet seen the television series from beginning to end. I have the original pilot, the first season, and firewalk on DVD, and have been patiently waiting for the release of season 2. I am pissed.
I don't know if this means anything, but I know that TP is a hard swallow for some people (who I think are just braindead anyway) but being introduced to TP the way I was may have been what caught my attention. I first saw firewalk before any other episodes, and the film made utter and complete sense to me. The interviews with the cast made it seem that the storyline when 'awry' for most of them. But watching the beginning after seeing the end... (or is that seeing the end after watching the beginning?) made me realise that the 'end' couldn't have occurred any differently. That show was well thought out, and the symbolism is gut level, as well as spiritual - and not just 'supernatural' as I've heard it described. I believe the whole story to be about the spiritual turmoil that results from abuse at the hands of those we trust the most, and the despair that results. Genius. Lynch is a genius.

5-0 out of 5 stars my tapes died long ago
PLEASE get the 2nd season DVD out pronto. I know it's due out soon in region 2 so it's just the corporate jerks and studio gobblers holding this up. My vhs tapes died long ago (not that they were great to start with) and now the video rental store doesn't even carry them anymore (I think I was the only one who ever checked them out)! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! I realize there's a bit more to the TP than there is to the crap they pump out for bad tv shows a day after the season is over, but I know it's ready to go just waiting for the studios to decide who's going to rip us off by splitting season 2 into 2 parts or something. ugh.

5-0 out of 5 stars It seems logical to me....
Twin Peaks only had two seasons before it was cut down by network idiots. Season 1 is the only one (of the two, remember) to make it to DVD thus far. CRAP like "Friends," "King of the Hill," and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer (sorry Buffy fans--the show really is awful)" are into at least their 3rd seasons on DVD. What's the deal? THERE ARE ONLY TWO SEASONS OF TWIN PEAKS-----EVER. YOU CAN"T GIVE SOMEONE SEASON ONE AND NOT SEASON TWO WHEN THERE ARE ONLY TWO SEASONS!!!!!! I FEEL LIKE I'M LOSING MY MIND HERE! AAAARRRRRRRRGH! ...
