Roger and JP are two children who live in a foster-home with a kind woman name Maggie. Roger and JP are in love with baseball and the local Anaheim Angels who play only a few blocks from their home. They sneak into every game that they are able to, to watch their beloved team. Roger, however feels sad quite often because he wants to be back with his troubled father. His father made a deal with him that he'd be back to pick him up if the Angels ever won the pennant. During one game Roger see's angels in the outfield helping a player making a catch, and at the plate, helping them hit. But nobody else can see them, not even JP. After they tell the manager about this he has Roger motions to him whenever he sees the angels. Then the Angels start winning after starting off the season very slow. With the help of the angels that Roger sees they win the pennant. Roger gets very sad because he will have to leave Maggie and JP, but his troubled father never comes to pick him up which breaks his heart. If you are looking for a great, funny baseball movie with a fantasy twist you should check out Angels in the Outfield.

The aforementioned fish-out-of-water comedic elements are occasionally amusing, but most of 'em are a bit too subtle or are not pulled off quite as effectively as they could have been (the director acknowledges this problem in the commentary track). Fortunately, the main heavy and his two bumbling henchmen pick up the levity as they set out to take the "futuristic" dirt bike for themselves. In the meantime, the hero manages to get a little action with a surprisingly assertive woman, which sets up the tried-and-true travel movie gimmick known as... well, that's be givin' away too much if ya ain't seen this yet, so I won't discuss this particular point any further. All in all, I found "TimeRider" a not-half-bad waste of an hour and a half, with the nostalgic angle enhanced by the early 80s adventure film rock music soundtrack that relied heavily on synthesizer keyboard melodies. Even the old west scenes have this kinda music, only more old west-y in sound... if that makes any sorta sense. It ain't no "Back to the Future", but it'll do in a pinch... But wait, there's more: what is a movie DVD without the obligatory theatrical trailer or two? In this instance, they threw two trailers in as well as several TV spots. BTW it was the TV spots that got my seven-year-old brain thinkin' to myself, "Hey, that movie looks kinda cool! Maybe I can harangue my older friend who lives a cross the street to go see it with me at the local multiplex!" Which is what I eventually did... Then there was the big surprise: a feature-length commentary track by the movie's director! Never in a million years did I ever think "TimeRider" would have a commentary track devoted to it, but there ya have it. Anyhoo, he goes over the usual technical stuff, talks about certain scenes and moments he felt could've been done a little better, and shows his penchant for nepotism by pointing out the various relatives he used as extras in some of the scenes. He also discusses the lessons he learned shooting the movie, which was his first feature film as a director. Ya know, the kinda stuff you usually hear in a commentary track... Now I'm gonna go off on a tangent for a moment here, but... I had a bear of a time trying to find this on video OR DVD anywhere! I went to just about every online store looking for it, and failed to get any results whatsoever on their search engines. Fortunately, I caught sight of the DVD at an "old-fashioned" brick-and-mortar setup, and found out why my searches were unsuccessful: I was typing the movie's title into the online stores' search engines as two separate words (Time Rider), rather than as one compound word (TimeRider)! I guess none of the online stores I checked out could be bothered to have their search keywords set up to where both "Time Rider" and "TimeRider" would lead to a hit for this movie... And on another tangent: I coulda' sworn there was a scene near the end where one of the bad guys got blown up by a stick of dynamite or something off-camera, and after the explosion the camera cuts to a pair of bloody, tattered boots hitting the ground. Am I thinkin' of a different movie here? I could have sworn it was here where I saw that scene. If anybody knows which flick I'm talkin' about where this moment appears, drop me an e-mail, willya? Thanks. BTW I know it's not "Raising Arizona"... Anyhoo, I gotta skate. I'm gonna go watch my other fave Fred Ward action/adventure movie that I haven't seen in a long time: "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins"! I tell ya, I'm so excited to finally see that flick again, I'm havin' trouble maintainin' bladder control... 'Late!
Am I upset? You're darn tootin' I am. Sometimes "little" things matter A LOT. ... Read more

I thought the concept was well executed. I didn't expect that the balloons' contents would be what they were. I thought all of the characters gave fine performances, that includes the balloons as well. If you have never believed in magic or can't enjoy a fantasy, this is not the movie for you. If you can you will be thoroughly entertained.
Ballon Farm is definitely nothing special. It was made for family audiences to view and enjoy (but it seems like it was made for 3 - 8 year olds). When I watched this Disney TV movie, I thought it was downright weird and predictable. Just by watching this movie you can tell the script was written for very young audiences. You'll see the adults in the film saying and doing immature things. The only positive thing about this movie is that it's extremely funny the first time you watch it (but then afterwards it just plain boring). Not to mention Disney chose poorly in picking the cast members. Overall, Balloon Farm is a waste of time and money. DO NOT BUY! ... Read more

Also, didn't realize it was a made-for-TV movie, but it was pretty obvious as I watched it since it had the darkening scenes you always notice right before the commerical break, yuk.
So, if you want to buy a Christmas present for your kids, and thinking about a harmless and amusing one, "Santa Who?" will do. It is good-natured, and though slightly sexual relationship is implied (between the two adults), it is nothing you might be embarrassed with when watching it with kids. However, if you seek for more profound and thought-provoking one, how about "Miracle on 34th Street"? Both the original and the remake (featuring Natalie Wood and Mara Wilson respectively, and they are so cute!!) are great, I assure you.
Santa is out riding in his sleigh, hits some turbulence and falls to earth. He lands on the car of a TV reporter who is need of a Christmas story for his newscast and loses his memory. This reporter had long ago lost his ability to believe in Santa. Of course the viewer must suspend reality and accept the situation to fully enjoy the results of this story. Someone looking only for a funny film will be disappointed as it is not played strictly for laughs. Leslie Neilsen has played a real Santa before (All I Want For Christmas) and does a great job here as a befuddled person trying to remember who he really is. Again, someone expecting an over the top comic performance will not be amused, but this is meant as a FAMILY film and really succeedes. Of course, being a Christmas story, the reporter regains his faith in Santa and in himself and, just in time, Santa regains his memory. Even Scrooge would know this was going to happen. This began as a TV movie on the Sunday Night Disney program last Christmas. I'd taped it then and have watched it a number of times since. Now it is great to have it on DVD without commercials. If you are one of those people who thinks anyone with Merry Christmas on his lips should be buried with a stake of holly through his heart (sorry Mr. Dickens), don't watch this film, but for anyone looking for a nice, smile involking 88 minutes of Christmas fantasy, get this DVD. ... This movie is about a family who is visited by big foot. The acting in this movie is amazing! The charcters responded so realisticly. I know this is supposed to be a comedy, but the actors responded so realistcly to having a big foot living in their house. Thats the way I would have acted if it was really happening to me. Well, not much can be said about this movie. It basicly speakes for it itself. ENJOY
All kidding aside, I loved this flick when I was a kid. We had a VHS copy of the film, and my brothers and I wore it out something nuts. HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS is a family film. It's great for children and people who have yet to accept the fact that unicorns, Bigfeet and the Loch Ness Monster are "pretend." Meanwhile, you and your friends might enjoy picking this monster up from video stores on a rainy night when you just feeling like laughing at extreme silliness. I mean, c'mon guys, we're talking about some folks that run over a sasquatch and take it back to suburbia where it becomes a part of the family. If that won't make you laugh, I just don't know what will. I'm laughing just thinking about it. The part when Harry gets into the car and his head makes the roof bulge up, because he's so tall and big and strong..... golly that's just the best! Well, John Lithgow (FOOTLOSE; SHREK) may be one of the best banjo players this side of Uranus, but all that fingerpicking sure doesn't get in the way of his fathering/acting skills. He's constantly caught between doing what he thinks would be best for his family and his compassion for imaginary, Harries. However, when Jacques LaFleur (David Suchet - GREYSTOKE; A PERFECT MURDER), a hunter out for Bigfoot blood, starts sniffing the sasquatch trail, Harry and co. are forced to recruit Dr. Wallace Wrightwood (Don Ameche - TRADING PLACES; COCOON), a Bigfoot enthusiast, and flee to the hills to save Harry. Isn't that a unique tail? While the film is a winner in many ways, one can't escape the fact that Bigfoot is not a real creature! This staggering statement can't be ignored. Throughout the film, you just can't help but laugh and comment, "Hang on just a darn second! Now, that's not real. There's no such thing as Bigfoot." And, then you'd laugh out loud and smack yourself on the knee. Overall, HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS is a must-own rental for anyone with a flare for cheesy movies about nonsensically impossible creatures and the families they love. ... Read more
