3-0 out of 5 stars Bill Murray plays Scrooge in this modern inner-city version.
If you have seen every version of "Scrooge" and "A Christmas Carol" and are bored with it all, well here is a version that will have you laughing. "Scrooged" (1998) makes fun of all those old versions you have already seen. Bill Murray (NBC Saturday Night Live, 1977-1980) plays "Scrooge" and he is a tv network president who dislikes Christmas and the spirit of it. He will fire anyone that is good and has good sense. What is fun are the cameo appearances and the familar faces of actors we like to see. Lee Majors, Robert Goulet, Harry Shearer, Alfre Woodard, John Houseman, Buddy hackett, Jamie Farr, Mary Lou Retton, Bobcat Goldthwait, Robert Mitchum, John Glover, Brian Doyle Murray, David Sanborn, Paul Shaffer, Karen Allen, Rebeca Archerd, Michael J. Pollard, Logan Ramsey, Anne Ramsey and Mabel King. John Forsythe plays "Lew Hayward". David Johansen plays "Ghost of Christmas Past". Carol Kane plays "Ghost of Christmas Present".

5-0 out of 5 stars A cult classic.
I usually bring my sister wherever in the world I am at Christmas time. She knows I have a copy of Scrooged, but she brings one of her own anyway...full redundancy.

This movie is hilarious on every level. It's chock full of obvious simple humor, but you can "dive deep" for humor at almost any point in time and find some unique absurdity that must have had the writer laughing his a@# off at the time of writing.

I've you've never seen...well, don't wait for Christmas, get at once.

Enjoy...

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very funny and not for the holidays.
Most mainstream Hollywood movies do not seem to honor or pay any kind of respect to the holidays. This movie was among them, even though Bill Murray's performance as a modern Scrooge, is not nearly as nasty as other parts he has done in the past, it still comes off as being not very funny and not really honest. The movie also sadly shows how commericalized the holidays have become. Skip this picture.

3-0 out of 5 stars TWO WORDS TO WATCH THIS FILM: BILL MURRAY.
Bill Murray is a great actor. He can play funny guys, nasty guys, wacky guys, lovable guys, etc. In "Scrooged" he plays all those guys in only one character (Frank Cross).

"Scrooged" is a movie set in Christmas, so the best time to enjoy it is definitely in december. Perhaps if the role of Frank Cross, the modern Scrooge, would have been portrayed by other actor, the movie wouldn't have been so entertaining, and that is the sign of a good actor. Every actor that can make better a movie with his/her performance deserves to be called a great actor. I call Bill Murray A GREAT ACTOR.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
...

I guess I'm biased because in my mind Bill Murray can do no wrong - I am that big of a fan.

I found Scrooged to be hilarious and a refreshing change of pace from the sugary Christmas Carol originals. Sure they are great movies, but a change of pace that also offers good sentiment at the end is also refreshing.

The ghosts of Christmas past in Scrooged are hilarious, especially Carol Kane the "sweet, angelic" ghost who kicks Bill's butt more than once.

Some tender moments are when you realize, as the credits run, that Bill's brother in the movie is really played by his real brother, and Bill couldn't have summmed it up any better when he states, at the end of the movie, that Christmas is the one time of year when we all spend a few hours being the kind of people we should be all year long. It's a reminder of all we can and should be.

I really enjoyed this movie and plan on buying it on DVD ... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars And boy, don't forget to finish your homework
"The Rifleman" was No. 1 on television in the late 1950's, when 20 Western Oaters floated over the airwaves. ABC's genius was the casting of Chuck(Touch) Connors, former baseball player, as father Lucas McCain, Johnny Crawford as his son Mark, and veteran movie actor Paul Fix(long-time friend of John Wayne) as Micah, the town sheriff. Connors would go on to star, co-star, or narrate 5 more TV series. This Volume 4 DVD is one of the best, featuring 5 episodes. The first stars Robert Culp as a bounty hunter in a flimsy, slow story, with Culp mugging and hamming all the way. He would write the next episode, then move on to star in TV's "I Spy". Episode 2 stars Hollywood Rat Pack's Sammy Davis, Jr., as a flashy gunfighter with an agenda. His mock death-scene in the arms of Lucas McCain is nearly risible, with both actors on the verge of laughter. Episodes 3 and 4(perhaps the best) star TV veteran Vito Scotti as a Mexican bandit leader, with McCain and company stranded in a desolate ghost town. The 5th episode features Connors in a dual role, portraying McCain and his evil twin, hard-drinking Earl Bantry. Connors literally fights and talks to himself with the aid of an optical printer and trick photography. This marvelous DVD package is an enchanting window on a 1950's America that no longer exists. Then it was a simpler world. Good men were good. Bad men got shot. Everyone loved it. And in the end, there was America's favorite father counseling his son..."Boy, don't forget to finish your homework..."

4-0 out of 5 stars Prime Chuck...
Chuck Connors stars as Lucas McCain, also known in some parts as "The Rifleman". McCain lives on a small ranch outside of the town of North Fork, New Mexico, with his son Mark (Johnny Crawford). His good friend is Marshal Micah Torrance (Paul Fix). This is the fourth collection of their adventures. Here are summaries and/or comments for the episodes in this set. Episode ratings are on a scale from one to five (best).

Man From Salinas (4): Lucas is acting marshal, when a bank robber drifts into town. McCain wounds the man when he attempts to escape, after robbing the town bank. The news that the man is badly hurt and expected to die, is telegraphed to Salinas, the town the man just came from. There, an unscrupulous fellow (Robert Culp), aware that there is a large reward on the dying man, schemes to come and claim the body. A suspenseful episode, featuring the acting of the charming, smooth-talking Culp.

Two Ounces of Tin (4): Sammy Davis Jr. guest stars as "Corey" a trick shooting gunfighter. Out to avenge the death of his father, he has a huge grudge against the lawmen of North Fork. Corey threatens to kill whoever wears the Marshal's (tin) badge. Unaware of this, Mark does the stranger a good turn, and in return he receives a jaw-dropping exhibition of lightning fast gunhandling and trick shooting. Lucas however is not impressed. As acting marshal, he is Corey's next target. Davis's fine performance as a lonely man with too much pride is both emotional and tragic.

Waste (4): This two-part adventure finds Lucas, Mark and Micah traveling near the Mexican border where they run into a gang of banditos in an abandoned town. Veteran character actor Vito Scotti, who specializes in portraying ethnic characters, is truly loathsome as the leader of the banditos (lovely dental work). They capture Lucas and Mark, and lead them to Micah who is buried up to his neck in the ground. Soon McCain is digging a hole preparing to join him in the dirt. Only Lucas's quick action saves them from the ruthless band of outlaws. McCain has all he can handle trying to save their lives, and is also called on to do an unexpected service, receiving feminine gratitude for his trouble. Mark is a real pain, not following his father's instructions and constantly asking questions. Micah is too injured to be of any help whatsoever. Of interest, is the fact that this tale was written by actor Robert Culp.

The Deadly Image (3): It seems almost every TV program from the 60's used this gimmick sooner or later, as Chuck Conners plays a dual role. "Earl Bantry" is a lookalike for Lucas McCain. When Bantry commits murder, a witness believes that McCain is guilty. The lookalike and his partner reach North Fork, causing a ruckus. Marshal Torrance gets careless, and winds up unconscious on the floor. Then the men head for the McCain ranch for more "fun". "Bantry" is particularly dislikable, and it is probably a safe guess that Conners enjoyed being the "bad guy" for a change.

The Rifleman Volume 4 is the best of the collections in this series so far. The stories are well written, and action packed. The guest stars are excellent, with depth to their characters. Justice is swift and McCain exceeds his average of one kill per episode. As usual, women are almost nonexistent. The transfer to DVD is excellent, the only complaint about this series is that there could easily be more than five episodes per disc. At this rate, it will take 34 DVD's to present all of The Rifleman episodes. Do you have the shelf space? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best 70's cop show EVA!
I can't wait till the studio gets around to releasing this.

It contains Michael Douglas' finest work and is without a doubt the best 70's cop show produced to date.

4-0 out of 5 stars Action and Drama, S.F.-Style
THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO was one of the better crime dramas of the 70's, featuring screen veteran Karl Malden as Lieutenant Mike Stone and rising star Michael Douglas as Inspector Steve Keller. The series was produced by Quinn Martin and filmed on location in the City By The Bay.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about STREETS, besides the solid scripts and beautiful location scenery, was the powerhouse roster of guest stars. The series featured performances by many top actors from both new and old Hollywood, including Martin Sheen, Joseph Cotten, James Woods, Ida Lupino, John Ritter, Leslie Nielsen, Patty Duke, Nick Nolte, Larry Hagman and even a young Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Michael Douglas left the series in 1976 to pursue a movie career. His final episode was the two-part fifth season premiere, "The Thrill Killers", about a radical organization that kidnaps an entire jury. The story was inspired by the Patricia Hearst kidnapping case, which was still making headlines at the time.Douglas was replaced by Richard Hatch for the final year.

Several volumes of STREETS episodes were released on VHS back in 1998 but are now out of print. It would be great to see entire seasons of the drama released on DVD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Copy to DVD ever...
It almost seems like there was a diliberate attempt to find the worst possible copy of the movie and imprint on a DVD. Perhaps, the goal of the producers was exactly that, and if you are after the nostalgia of seeing that movie as it was shown in the theater with a broken projector, you may want to get this. However, if you are living in the real world, where records were replaced by CD's some time ago, you may want to abstain from this copy, even if the price is tempting, as it was for me.

I could not even finish watching the DVD, both because of the quality and the movie itself, even thought I am a fan of Bronson films. But this copy... is relative to Condid's interview - everything that could have been made wrong, was made wrong.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice to see Bronson in a light hearted comedy
Charles Bronson in a different sort of role as a 38 year old porn writer who has a loving romance with a 16 year old girl by the name of lola. Of course their love is not meant to be and the viewer sees that. But during the film you get a chance to see Bronson act in a more comedy sense than his usual no nonsense tough guy image and it's a welcome relief. DIfferent type of film for Bronson and it does falter a bit towards the end but it's still a decent attempt. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Original and BEST of the West!
Never mind 1999's theatrical version--this is the original we're talking about! Robert Conrad and Ross Martin set the standard for spies with spurs in the ABC action series which ran from 1965 to 1968. Brilliantly interweaving the 60's spy craze (including "Mission: Impossible", "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and "Get Smart") with the equally-popular Western genre (ala "Bonanza", "Gunsmoke", and "Rawhide"), it was truly James Bond in the West. Conrad's well-tailored, silver-tongued James West, and Ross Martin's theatrical chameleon Artemus Gordon faced the most eccentric villains ever to grace the small screen (actually, I take that back--that accolade belongs to "Batman". But still....if you've seen the show, you know what I'm talking about). Appearing often was the short-statured Michael Dunn as Dr. Miguelito Loveless. Just classic stuff.

So, here's what we're calling for: 4 (four) season-by-season boxed sets containing all 104 episodes, as well as documentaries with any available living cast and/or crew members. Consider the other television series who've been digitally cast in DVD format: "Mary Tyler Moore", "M*A*S*H", "Star Trek"....lovers of this show will agree that "The Wild, Wild West" belongs amongst these classics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another vote for the release of the series on DVD!
The Wild Wild West, starring Robert Conrad and Ross Martin, was a truly unique blend of science fiction and western. The stories were especially dynamic during it's fourth and final season. With all the TV series being released on DVD (like Green Acres of all things) it stands to reason that Wild Wild West would be popular enough with the buying public to make it worth the studios while to produce the entire series, hopefully with some nice added features. The series was originally produced by Paramount. If they still have the rights, that's who we need to contact. Here's my vote.

1-0 out of 5 stars More great things in Wild Wild West
Yes agree but there was even more to the show. At the beginning of each episode they would show four pictures, in fact a still view of the ending of each section of the each chapter of the episode.

You would start wandering what each still ment, but of course couldn't. Then when you watched the show you got the context.

I have never seen this method used since in any TV show; but it gave an even more mysterious feel to this great show this great work of art.

5-0 out of 5 stars A show Ahead of It's Time
Why this isn't being released in season sets is beyond me. Forget the fact that I love the show. From a purely business perspective this would make a killing in sales. Just go to the TV section in any Best Buy or Circuit City and you'd be shocked at some of the obscure older TV shows that are being released. The Wild Wild West has a huge fan following - not to mention the fact that it still holds up today and would probably hook a whole new generation. I'm hoping this one gets made soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is impossible for a TV Show to be more fun than this!
One of the most creative, imaginative and purely fun shows in TV history stands waiting for DVD release, and I'm really hoping Paramount or whoever owns this series does the right thing. From the brilliant and resourceful production design and Heschong's inspired art direction (combining to realize a fantastic world of Victorian sci-fi wonder) to the colorful array of villains brilliantly portrayed by Michael Dunn, Carroll O'Connor, Lloyd Bochner and others, to the exciting music of Drasnin, Shores and Markowitz et al, to a long list of great directors and writers, WWW was a once-in-a-lifetime TV coup. And not least of all come the fight scenes: film students should be studying the perfectly-tuned editing, the use of wide and medium shots (minimal closeups) that pull you in to the precision choreography, creating the most visceral and supercharged blend of music and action ever on the tube, with the cool Conrad always at its center. Round it all off with the amazing Ross Martin's gallery of infinite rogues and you have as satisfying an escapist viewing experience as one could wish for. Bring it on! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars U .N.C.L.E Deserves to be on DVD
Make no mistake about it - The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was one of the best - if not the best - TV series in the 1960's. And don't forget the TV reunion movies,(was there just 1, or 2?)one of which had George Lazenby spoofing his James Bond portrayal. Isn't it time the powers that be give all the U.N.C.L.E. fans what we want - a DVD release of this superbly written and acted series? Look at some of the stuff that's out now such as The Man Show and series which barely lasted one season and you have to believe the people in charge of issuing series are issuing what they want and not what the viewers want. C'mon folks, give us Napolean Solo (only Sean Connery is a better actor than Robert Vaughn) and let's not forget sidekick Ilya Kuryakin (Navy NCIS's David McCallum) and Alexander Waverly (Leo G. Carroll) who was just as good as James Bond's "M." U.N.C.L.E. fans are legion and don't deserve to be ignored any longer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tell me you are kidding, no "Man From U.N.C.L.E." in DVD???
Man, of all the t.v. series in DVD format, to do a search for: "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," to find nothing, not even a single episode or movie, is a huge shock and disappointment, to say the least. The person in charge of deciding which shows to put on DVD really blew it as in "No DUH." Most people who grew up in the 60's, grew up watching and loving the show. That would be the so-called baby boomers who make up a sizeable portion of today's purchasing population, your's included. So, what are you waiting for? What is the hold-up? This series is much better than "I SPY," "The Avengers" or even "The Saint" (even if they, too, are good ones) and you have them on DVD already. I still have to pinch myself, I gotta be dreaming, no Illya Kuryakin or Napoleon Solo? No Mr. Waverly or United Network Command for Law and Enforement, battling Thrush on our behalf??? Woe is me. I'm searching again because I gotta be dreaming this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
OMG, WHERE is the DVD issuance of this GREAT Spy series from 1964-68? Come on, guys, this addictive program was the most popular TV series THROUGHOUT THE WORLD in the mid-60's, and even today has a huge cult following, loyal fan club base, and show memorabilia collector interest.
This is not just a nostalgic series for the 'baby boomers.' It is timeless for adults and kids alike. MFU sports thrilling around-the-world spy plots, tongue-in-cheek humor and an almost unlimited list of famous guest stars. As must also be noted, its second (and subsequent) seasons, filmed on the now defunct but expensive and gorgeous Kodachrome film, make this series an absolute delight for the eye. Color tints and saturations you do not see on programs filmed later into the 70's!
The writers, producers and directors of the series were certainly some of the most talented and innovative of the period. The show has amazingly well written plots (especially the B&W first season) and in fact even spawned many 'new' photography techniques in its time. These are noted as creative applications utilizing the then-new shoulder-hefted 'portable' film cameras. This program was one of the first such uses of these cameras.
Starring Robert Vaughn as secret agent Napoleon Solo, David McCallum as partner Illya Kuryakin, and Leo G. Carroll as U.N.C.L.E. Director Alexander Waverly, this series brought together three very talented actors to create a well-blended mix of character personalities. Week after week they would save the world, usually from the sinister menace of the evil arch enemy organization THRUSH.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is grand action adventure.
Granted, the series did begin to falter (just a bit) in its final 1967-68 season, but it was still fun to watch and certainly remained at the top of the 'quality' shows of the period.
A 1966-67 cross over spin off, the often times ridiculous Girl From U.N.C.L.E., was also quite popular. The GFU starred Stefanie Powers as agent April Dancer and Noel Harrison as agent Mark Slate. Again, Leo G. Carroll starred as the head of the U.N.C.L.E.
Work on these two series' was quite an accomplishment for the renowned Mr. Carroll, considering that he was not in the best of health at this time in his life. Shows were occasionally and graciously shot around his particular needs, but the producers weren't bothered; they were well aware of their good fortune to have such a respected actor.
In light of many 'garbage' shows being presently marketed on DVD, it is necessary to state that the fantastic Man From U.N.C.L.E. series needs to be given its long overdue consideration for DVD release.
And make certain to keep intact the closing credits, sporting the famous "We wish to thank the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, without whose assistance this program would not be possible."
Great stuff . . . right to the end!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dated, But Still My Favorite Show
UNCLE is still my favorite show, even if it is dated (and even though I can now see how they re-used that red brick mansion over and over in many episodes). Recently, Film Score Monthly magazine has released two double-CD sets of original UNCLE music, and I've been reimagining the shows in my head as I listen to great, catchy music. I've waited since 1965 for real, original UNCLE music, as heard on the show. Yippee!

Why this show is not on DVD perplexes me. When it was released on tape, they didn't pick the best episodes, but the ones with the biggest guest stars. Bad move, but better than nothing.

For a 1960s show that's not in reruns, it still isn't forgotten. I recently heard Elvis Costello on a talk show describing a recording studio that was unexpectedly located in an old building. He said, "It was like 'The Man From UNCLE'". I could hardly believe my ears! See, people still talk about it. Please release it while we're still around to buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Make My Days ... and Nights
As a long-time fan, I already own the tape set, but would still buy the DVDs in a heartbeat. Man from U.N.C.L.E. fans are still around -- in numbers that would surprise you. And we're not all over 40. My kids love the show, too. It's timeless -- funny, intelligent and features some wonderful co-stars.

I look forward to owning this set. ... Read more

DIfferent type of film for Bronson and it does falter a bit towards the end but it's still a decent attempt. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Please. Please, Please, put the SMDM on dvd....
Oh Man, how long have I waited for this. I loved the SMDM back in the day. I guess I was around 9 or 10 when it first came on. From the pilot episode to the last one, I was hooked. Did you know that the UK and other parts of Europe already have the SMDM and also the Bionic Woman on dvd? My question is, Why havent we got these classic shows on dvd already? These are American shows. We should have gotten these first. Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against our British friends for having them, but why neglect us here in America? I just hope that Universal wakes up and discovers that there IS an American market for these classic shows to be put on dvd format. If they can put CRAP like Friends and Celebrity Mole, and other lame shows on dvd, why not great, classic shows like the SMDM on dvd? Im still waiting....

5-0 out of 5 stars The Six Million Dollar Man Will be Reincarnated
I am 14. I know 14 is a little young to know about thes series, but I saw a few reruns on tv. I really hope the studio will release this title on DVD. I would like to see Steve Austin ( Lee Majors ) in the crash and be turned into a machine. The Stunts are outstanding. I am also of interest of The Bionic Woman. Unfourntaly None of these titles are released on DVD yet. ... Read more
