5-0 out of 5 stars A MOVIE WITH EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK!!
am 36 years old and I never saw this movie until this year..
I have to say that I thought it was FANTASTIC!! I have a 3 1/2 year old and she loved it !!
The actors did a Great job!! especially Lesley Anne warren who in my opinion is Cinderella... no hype or overdoing it, she did the part simply and classy, taking her scenes beyond what most actresses would do. (you really feel sorry for cinderella with all the amount of neglect she gets,I enjoyed the fact that she tries to remain good natured and happy spirited with the situations that were given to her). Beautiful singing voice and a great dancer! ("In my own little corner", "Impossible","A lovely night" are wonderful songs).
. Her together with the prince were a match made in HEAVEN!, BRAVO to the both of them!! they look, act and sing VERY well and speaking of Stuart Damon....(where do I start) He is SO HANDSOME in this movie my jaw dropped!! I thought he was very humorous in many scenes,(He new what he was looking for in a woman and test ran all the maidens at the ball, maybe he was a little harsh with the step- sisters but he had an idea of who wanted him for her "prize"). . His singing voice is Excellent (especially with his songs "loneliness of evening", "10 minutes ago" and "do I love you because your beautiful". I loved how he would look at her especially at the ball when he saw her at the top of the stairs(one will never forget that gaze along with the silence that followed as they walked toward each other...aaaaah!)and the end when he realized that this poor gal was his true love, and when he tried the slipper on her, My gosh where did they find him! -A GREAT CHOICE OF A MAN FOR THE PRINCE.
The rest of the cast is great!... Pat Carol was quite funny as Prunella especially at the ballroom, and when the prince tried on her slipper!) she has alot of humor (especially her little laugh) and with her wicked sister they make quite a pair( I thought the sisters were supposed to be Anastasia and druzella??) Unfortunately Walter pigeon and Ginger Rodgers didn't have enough "Air time"(I thought) but made a grand King and Queen when they were shown. Jo van fleet's version of the wicked stepmother was very interesting (she really does not like cinderella) and the interplay between her and Cinderella was very good, her facial expressions are priceless, you have to pause your vcr and have a good laugh!!. Celeste Holmes was a very convincing Fairy god mother(a very silly one)her singing voice was good.
The sets/ special effects are totally fake but you tend to overlook that and concentrate on the story. The movie rolls right along ,(no time for boredom). There are parts in the original "Cinderella" children's book/film (the WALT DISNEY version) that are not shown in this film (examples: the mice that help Cinderella, her trying on the dress the mice made for her and having it ripped by the stepsisters, and getting helped at the end to get out of her room to try on the glass slipper.)etc
I TOTALLY recommend this classic movie to anyone.. I have the VHS version and It's GREAT!!(picture and sound) I also have ordered the soundtrack cd!! Do your family and yourself a favor and buy this!!It is sooooooooo romantic... I have actually cried at some scenes, I wish I could have seen this as a child but I APPRECIATE this now.....

4-0 out of 5 stars Do I love you because you're beautiful?
As a lover of the fairy tale "Cinderella," I have watched this over and over again since I was a child. I can't remember a time when I didn't know the songs in this musical. I used to go around singing "Impossible" all the time as a young girl.

The story is simple and straighforward, we all know it, so there's no need to go into any plot details. This story does not deviate from the story we all know and love.

What makes this particular rendition a bit unique is simply that it's filmed as a play, rather than as a movie. The sets are very stage-y, and the acting is overdone and a bit cheesy for a movie -- but you'll find that it works well on the stage.

The reason it works in this is because they didn't TRY to film it like an ordinary movie -- because it wouldn't have worked. They filmed it as though they were just video-taping a play, and it was charming.

Leslie Ann Warren is positively adorable in the role of Cinderella. The rest of the cast is wonderful as well; the stepsisters can be a riot sometimes, I can't help laughing at "The Stepsisters' Lament." This is a movie any fairy tale lover will enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars lamp lady
i saw this film a long time ago, when I was 3 or 4. Of course I didn't know who Ginger rogers was, and the only thing I really remember about her performance is that she puts a lamp shade over her head. well, no wonder I'm not surprised that she brings a smile to my face in all her movies. she's a natural.

5-0 out of 5 stars great musical
One of the best "Cinderella is great and a wonderful romantic story starring Leslie Ann Warren its for children and adults a must see film.

2-0 out of 5 stars Is the JULIE ANDREWS Version Available for DVD or NOT???
I read or heard that the 1957 JULIE ANDREWS version of Cinderella was not saved, but I've just seen lots of scenes from it on a PBS special about Rogers and Hammerstein. And it looked great! Sadly, the 1965 color version with Leslie Ann Warren is not nearly as good. Try listening to the CD with Julie Andrews and then watching the Leslie Ann Warren version. You might agree. Lets have the Julie Andrews version on DVD!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Theatre magic
I saw this years ago, and just recently rediscovered it. I remember watching Julie Harris and wondering who is this woman? I ran right out and rented "A Member of the Wedding," "The Haunting," "East of Eden" and "I Am a Camera." However, it is "The Belle of Amherst" which remains dearest to my heart. Such a loving portrait. A bravura performance which earned the actress her fifth Tony Award for Best Actress, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Recording. This is a must for poetry lovers and theatre lovers alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Julie Harris shines as Emily Dickinson - Literature lives!
This astonishing video performance of Julie Harris' one-woman show about poetess Emily Dickinson's life and work is a true tour-de-force. Ms. Harris' range of expression both physically and vocally evokes Emily Dickinson so precisely that one can hardly imagine that she ever looked or sounded any other way. The poems which are featured in this script are so deftly and subtly interwoven that the entire presentation feels seamless and eminently REAL. I am a Theatre Arts/Speech teacher at a small High School in Virginia, and my students are perpetually astonished at the humor and relevance of a video made more than twenty years ago - usually, they want to tune out anything "old". This is a rich and sumptuous piece of living literature with a tremendously broad appeal - not just Dickinson's poetry, but her unique life is showcased in this privileged interview. This is EXACTLY the kind of "living literature" that we need most in our homes and in our schools - by bringing authors and works of note to life, we can perpetuate the essential reverence for the power of the written word which has perenially distinguished our culture. Please don't let the relatively high price of this product deter you - it is an investment which will repay itself many times over! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars go buy it have it now!!!
i own both seasons 1 and 2 of kung fu and it was my favorite show when it came and it still is!now only do you get action with this show but it teaches you about life!have any younger folks out there? i highly recommended this show for all ages it is pure entertainment both physically and spiritually!go buy it now you will not be disappointed!!

5-0 out of 5 stars It NEVER ceases to amaze me
This series, and something as innocent as the "Our Gang/Little Rascals" series are American popular cultural TREASURES!It never ceases to amaze me how some people "go out of their way" to look for racism. These people keep agitating & will never let things die down, and put things behind us.

In this case, and the Little Rascals series, somereviewers are looking for a platform & an audience to preach to.

Buy this series (and the Little Rascals for your elementary schoold kids)YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm inspired to do a kung fu website
As the title of this says, I am inspired to create a Kung Fu website dedicated to the show (I've already started the design). There are some available, but none cover it from the perspective I have. There are many episodes where Caine shows his displeasure of eating meat, and in the first season he even converted two different characters to being vegetarian. And in the third season, Caine finally rides a horse in the very final episode, but only after he apologises to it. Thirty years later, the show still holds up and does not look dated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still A Great Show, Even After 30 Years
I remember watching this show religiously when I was a kid and thinking it was the best thing on TV. The philosophy of life exemplified by the character Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine) had a real and lasting impact on me. Watching the same episodes all over again 30 years down the road, I find that they have not lost their original power. I would recommend watching this show with your children. If everyone learned to behave more like Kwai Chang Caine, the world would be a better place indeed.

5-0 out of 5 stars bruce lee myths
It is a common myth that Bruce Lee was involved in the creation of the kung fu TV series. The myth that it was stolen from him is just a fabrication popularized by the seldom factual movie "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story". He did however audition for the role and was turned down and rightfully so. Bruce was too big for the role of a humble monk. Why would anyone complain about him NOT getting this role, if he did he wouldn't have made any movies and would not have become a cult hero. He would just be another used and abused series character actor of the 70's.... With that said, this series as worth anyones time and money and amazons prices can't be beat! ... Read more

It may sound like a gimmick--The Greatest '70s Cop Shows is a compilation of first episodes from Starsky and Hutch, Police Woman, S.W.A.T., The Rookies, and Charlie's Angels--but this DVD anthology really opens one's eyes to the look and feel of dramatic television during the so-called Me Decade. Except for Angels, which never wavered from its self-mocking, glossy action/stiff exposition playbook, these cop-program debuts (four of them from Aaron Spelling) import much of their fluid camera movement, multiple points-of-view, and dynamic, often wordless storytelling from the era's rough-and-tumble action movies (e.g., The French Connection). Which is to say these shows may be dumb but not necessarily cheesy (except Angels' post-modern cheese). There is a lot to admire about the opening ambush in S.W.A.T.'s "The Killing Ground," the hard-boiled camaraderie of Police Woman's "The End Game," and especially the reckless physicality and ironic jokes of Starsky and Hutch's "Savage Sunday." --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars OH.....JUST SHOOT ME!!
It was just GREAT having the chance to own this DVD ! I am a big fan of America's Cop Shows and this item was really a "must -have".I just wish they could release more episodes of "The Police Woman" and "The Rookies" ( with Kate Jackson!!!), which are very interesting and which I had never watched before due to they had never been aired here in Brazil."The Angels" are "foxy" as always and you also get a chance to watch "Starski & Hutch" in the same package.

3-0 out of 5 stars More Angie, please...!
"Starsky & Hutch" were entertainingly silly for a couple of years, as were "Charlie's Angels", and "The Rookies" looks earnest but dated and tad naive. "SWAT" is essentially a shoot-em-up with few characters you get to know at all.

Interestingly, the one out of the five (and the one NOT produced by Aaron Spelling) that is easliy the most legitimate cop drama is "Police Woman" with Angie Dickinson--- it feels like a damn movie... something the other four certainly do not.

Funny how memories have written-off this series as a single, older version of a Charlie's Angel who still has her badge but does nothing else but turn "tricks", when, in fact, "Police Woman" seems to be the most sophisticated of the lot; it's aged beautifully.

Instead of packaging this mismatch of fun but otherwise unconnected 70s cop-show memories, let's see a DVD release of at LEAST "Police Woman"s first season, as I seem to remember it was the best year of the show--- and certainly quite removed from the other more comic-strip, though watchable, entries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Back when TV was great
Let me tell you, I LOVE this dvd. I have been waiting for these shows to be released on dvd format for a long time. You get the first episodes of 5 classic 70's cop shows.

1. Charlies Angels
2. The Rookies
3. Starsky and Hutch
4. Swat
5. Police Woman

I love all these shows, but I espacially love Police Woman and Starsky and Hutch. I grew up watching these shows, and there is not a cop show today that can hold a candle to these shows. I have some Charlie's Angels on dvd, and Starsky and Hutch on VHS from Columbia House, but I have missed watching Police Woman in over 25 years. I had a serious crush on Angie Dickinson back in the day. This is a great dvd of classic tv, when tv was entertaining, not all this reality crap that is on now. I just hope they realease more Police Woman and Starsky and Hutch on dvd. Its well worth the price and then some. Get it....

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is The One I Been Waiting For!!!
I am so glad they are bring out those old cop shows out on DVD. I remember watching those shows like Charlie's Angels, Starsky & Hutch,S.W.A.T, The Rookies and Police Woman back then when I was a child in the 70's. I also watched those shows when they were on TVLand til they took all the cop shows off on TVLand. I brought the DVD and I have too tell you this is the best DVD ever!!! My favorite ones on there are S.W.A.T and Charlie's Angels. You Must Buy this DVD to enjoy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun!
If like me, you're a fan of '70s pop culture...you'll want to add this DVD to your collection. Sure, you'll read reviews that refer to the "cheesiness" factor. Forget all that. I hate the word "cheesy." It assumes that everything that's current and hip will always be cool and in fashion. How short-sighted. But I digress. Watching "The Greatest '70s Cop Shows" brought me back to a time when TV was truly exciting. You get the following first episodes:

"Starsky & Huch" - "Savage Sunday"
"Charlie's Angels" - "Hellride"
"The Rookies" - "Concrete Valley, Neon Sky"
"S.W.A.T." - "The Killing Ground"
"Police Woman" - "The End Game"

My favorite out of this bunch is the "Police Woman" episode. I had not seen that show in at least 25 years and it holds up very well. Angie Dickinson is extremely sexy, sensitive, feminine and tough. What an awesome, groundbreaking show.

The sound on the disc is terrific, the picture is probably the best we're going to get...and the price is right. Never mind those big-budget theatrical versions of these shows...they don't hold a candle to the originals. Buy this and go back to the groovy '70s. You'll have a great time! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Low-budget movie
I love this movie! I have waited a long time for it to come to DVD. Here it is 2004 - watching a movie made in the 1970's, that takes place in 1873. I just love the philosophy of this film - avoid conflict when possible. This is in stark contrast to every action movie in the last 30 years, where the hero is just looking for an excuse to beat up / kill someone. With the above praise out of the way, the reason I didn't give it a 5 is that the production values are terrible. This was a tv show pilot, not a Hollywood blockbuster. While there is an explosion, that is the only "special effect". Bottom line, Get this movie, just be prepared for a very "low tech" experience. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Talent
I've seen most of the 1st 2 seasons and some of 3 and 4.
I saw seance for the 1st time the other week and thought it was really well done and a great performance by Jaclyn Smith.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Blast From The Past
When these shows first came out, I was eleven years old. I really didn't get a chance to see much of this first season when it ran in 1976, but I knew all about the three women who were the Angels thanks to tons of magazine coverage. The show was a phenomenom. Everybody had the Farrah poster!

Jump to today. This set is a very nice, complete view of season 1 (the only season Farrah was on the show). It includes the pilot and 22 episodes. Some are good and hold up with time. A couple are clinkers. But, the sound and video reproduction are good and it is easy to see why everyone was so spellbound by the show - Kate, Farrah and Jackelyn were stunning. ... Read more

It is a sordid fact of life that were it not for Robert Blake's newfound infamy as an accused wife murderer, Baretta, which lasted three seasons beginning in 1975, might have been relegated to late nights in TV land. But as they say in Hollywood, there's no such thing as bad publicity. So for those who do not want to invest in the Season One boxed set, here are three episodes from this offbeat cop series' first season, including the atypically gritty and brutal pilot, in which funky undercover cop Anthony Baretta goes after his girlfriend's killer, and speaks those grimly prophetic words: "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime." As these episodes testify, Baretta is more than a newly minted sick joke. The randy, rule-bending Baretta was a cop like no other on TV. And, as Tony was fond of saying, you can take that to the bank. --Donald Liebenson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic DVD release
CHARLIE'S ANGELS gets a wonderful DVD release with perfect picture and two choice episodes.

Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson star in two stories from the memorable first season; "Night Of The Strangler" and "To Kill An Angel". The only main qualm is the lack of chapters in the episodes.

Also included is the entertaining "Angels Forever" retrospective featurette which quizzes fans of the show as well as providing footage from the show and details from later cast members including Cheryl Ladd and Tanya Roberts.

Pretty impressive DVD package all-round!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Angels are back !!!!!!!
This two-part special edition is definitely a collector's item especially for those die-hard "Charlie's Angels" fans.It features Jaclyn Smith, who deserves the recognition as the "most angelic of them all," and two of the best episodes of the series. We're not talking award-winning stuff in this dvd issue but an outstanding entertainment to "visit" the undisputed queens of the 70s television.

The episode "Night of the Strangler" shows why Jaclyn Smith lasted so long in the series. Her looks and style are timeless plus that scene in her famous white bikini is a must to see. Of course, Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett are on hand to complete the trio.

For the episode "To Kill An Angel," new fans will be surprise that the show is not just pure bikini's and guns. It showcases also the dramatic sides of the trio.

The cover alone is worth the trip, so buy it now and collect! A must!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charlie how do you your Angels get down
OMG, please tell me this is the first of many more to come, Having the Angels on DVD is way fun. One mishap though, NO SCENE SELECTION. But it makes up for that with the Angel Featurette and the digitally enhanced audio and video.

5-0 out of 5 stars CHARLIE,S ANGELS
WONDEFUL lots of added features and Angels Forever is highlights from alot of the shows. This is a must for any Charlie,s Angels fan. Columbia and Tristar have done a GREAT job. Hope they come out with more. Charlie would give them all a week off with pay ,for a job well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Contains an Exclusive Featurette! Must Have For Angel Fans
Just finished viewing The DVD and in addition to the Two Classic epiodes mentioned in the description, the DVD also has an Exclusive Featurette Titled "Angels Forever"! This 20 Minute Documentary tells of The Impact that Charlies Angels has had on Various Fans and includes Vintage Scenes from The Series from The Farrah Year until the Tanya Roberts Last Year! 2-0 out of 5 stars At least they tried
What this is is an attempt to edit two seperate episodes of The Virginian tv series into one story. The story line of two brothers (Bronson and Marvin) and the seperate paths they took would have worked better had there been smoother editing. It becomes most painfully obvious during the final five minutes. Beyond that, if you would like to see both actors in their earlier years, rent if possible.

1-0 out of 5 stars HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
I'm still wondering how in the world Hollywood's two of the best stars got into this terrible mess! What a waste! Charlie & Marvin fans should stay away from this one. Regardless of the reviews that I read from IMDB I bought this DVD last year & I'm still regreting it. Take my advise, keep this away from your collection.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too expensive for an EP tape.
I'd advice anybody to stay away from this tape, even Bronson-fans. Don't get me wrong; it's a fine little TV-western, Bronson's good as always, it's a good cast in general, but the picture quality is not very good. -But that's just a minor problem. In fact, the tape's in the awful EP mode. -And at such a hefty price, too. Very disappointing, indeed. Shame on you "Goodtimes Home Video", for releasing something like this, at a price the double of what it's really worth. It would be nice if "Amazon.com" could note the speed-mode of the tapes. ...
