I wonder did the original beat this!
In this movie Sylvia Kristel (Emmanuelle) comes to Hong Kong to discover her sexual fantasies. There are enough nude scenes to get your mouth wet but there is always room for improvement. She does some things that will make your eyes open so this is not a terrible movie. I've seen Emmanuelle 4, and it is not good at all so all shoppers and collectors like myself should look at the first versions.

Shame on Fox Lorber for sucking the blood out of this movie with their editing of the film's sexiest scenes. Don't bother buying this movie, and keep this in mind when considering buying others of their film reissues.

Perhaps this movie stands out for me, since I saw it as a doubleheader with Emmanuelle I in original movie release. Of the two, it was clearly the more sensual. Yes, there is sex, but clearly there is more sensuality. I have been in S.E.Asia, so I did make a connection (although my time was certainly not like that). The bathhouse scene certainly raises the temperature of the room, and perhaps other things.... This movie certainly captures the time when sex was guiltless and without any health concerns (pre AIDS). This movie certainly is not R rated, but does not have the hard edge that more explicit movies can have. Perhaps one can think of it as how sex could be in a hedonistic environment with no concern of any consequences. This is a good DVD to have in a collection of sensuality.

If you're looking for the true erotic masterpiece that people talked to you about or the one you saw somewhere and dying to have in your collection STAY AWAY FROM THIS VERSION!!! This one is cut! And most disturbingly, the actual scenes for which you buy this film are missing!! Forget about it, go find yourself another movie...

Full Version Is Available
By the way, the full version of Emmanuelle 2 (including the incredible bath house scene) is available on VHS. Be sure to get the French language version, with English subtitles. It is available from Amazon, apparently. The French version will also allow you to hear Catherine Rivet's voice (as Anna-Maria), which only adds to the eroticism of the entire package!

Why The Cuts?
Did we imagine this??? How could we? It was our favorite scene!!! We paid good money for the DVD and BAM!!! What happened to the oriental bath house sequence? It was truly the most erotic scene in the movie and it was definitely not hard core.

Would someone PLEASE tell us we are not somehow mistaken? There was a Bath House sequence, wasn't there? Or are just so old that our minds are playing tricks?? We need to know!

Disappointed at cuts
If anyone knows how to find the original Emmanuelle 2: The Joys of a Woman, please email me. I was very disappointed at the cuts made on this supposedly restored version. The NC 17 rating made me believe that this was the uncut version. None of the original movie was so hardcore or explicit as to force the producers of this version to cut it. Call me a perfectionist, but the original movie was an erotic masterpiece, very artsy and with a feminine sensibility at its heart, which makes it a pleasure for couples viewing together. This version is still very good, but if you saw uncut version first you might find this a bit tame. ... Read more
