5-0 out of 5 stars Dragon on Fire (Joseph Kong as Director)
This movie called, "Dragon on Fire" is the TITEST MOVIE in the whole WIDE WORLD! I'd give it 10 STARS for the highest scale!

I really admire Dragon Lee in this movie! He is my IDOL! He is my MOST favorite actor of all time! Lots of awesome fighting sequences makes this movie ROCK the WORLD! I like the way he wastes the gang members! The movie makes me keep my eyes stuck to the television screen for hours! The movie is very addicing to watch! I can watch it over and over like many times and still not get used to it! Dragon Lee's fighting sequences are EXTREMELY EXTRAORDINARY! The VERY BEST BRUCE LEE IMPERSONATOR! This is a very must see movie for all Dragon Lee/Bruce Lee fans!

I really love it when Dragon Lee turns villains and enemies on FIRE every time he kicks and punches them plus he also uses Bruce Lee's nunchucks! That makes people on fire, too! Lots of blood makes this movie an AWESOME MARTIAL ARTS THRILLER! I think Dragon Lee is at his very best performance on screen! His fighting keeps me mesmerized forever! I think Dragon Lee's fighting is a lot better than Bruce Lee! He is a total awesome international star for the whole world to see!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Kung-Fu Movie I have ever seen
This is the Best Kung-fu Movie I have ever seen to come from hong Kong ,it is a shame that it is not on "DVD". That is a hope for the Future. Phillip Kuo(MA-Tee) and John Liu( The Wanderer) put on an Exhibtion of Entertaining Kung-fu I saw this movie 7 times when it Originally came to the Theathers in New York 42nd St. I did not see it again until 14yrs later and it still gives me the same sensation that it did in 84. The only Bad thing about the Movie is that Dragon(no Talent )Lee Is one of the stars, other than that,Every fan of Hong Kong Kung-fu Movies should own a copy of this .

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't confuse this.
This is NOT the movie staaring Dragon Lee. This is another movie and Dragon Lee is not the main character.

5-0 out of 5 stars DRAGON LEE'S MASTERPIECE
CLASSIC! All star cast. Dragon Lee (Bruce Lei), Bruce Lea, Bruce Li, Samuel Walls. Get this at all costs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry - This Movie Is Waaaay Overrated
I'm not sure why people have given this film such good reviews. Maybe it's one of the reasons why I disliked it even more. I was expecting a film with great fighting, even without the good storyline, but I was very disappointed. My main beef with this film is the way Godfrey Ho manipulates the speed of the fighting sequences. I think he should have just undercranked to make it look like they were fighting faster. Instead, he snips out frames, so for example, at one second, a guys hands at his waist, while in the next instance it's above his head! Not to mention the fact that the coreography itself isn't memorable. Philip Ko is a great fighter (at least, he is in other films I've seen, like 'Tiger Over Wall'), but boy is wasted in this film. Tino Wong and John Liu are also not impressive in this film. And what's up with Dragon Lee? His character goes around making bruce lee faces and manneurisms, but what is the point of his character? I guess one interesting fact about this film is that it features some 'voodoo kung fu', which would become a popular genre during the early 80's.
If you really are curious about this film, I'd suggest getting it as a cheapie in that 'Dragon Lee' set by BCI Eclipse/Brentwood. At least, if you dislike it, you won't have wasted your money, and if you really liked it, you'd feel satisfied about getting your money's worth and more. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars worst ever
I doubt the reviewer previous to me actually saw this movie, but let me assure any potential purchasers that this movie is garbage. The plot moves like an old man on a bad acid trip. What there is of decent martial arts action is overshadowed by the ridiculous hopping of the ghost-children.
Unless you want to laugh your way through the plot and action, just look elsewhere for an old-school kung-fu flick, this is just garbage :P

4-0 out of 5 stars Fair transfer of a not so bad film...
First, unlike other discs put out by this video company, the transfer is pretty good. Usually, their discs look like copies of VCDs or poor video sources. There is one annoying tracking drop-out early in the film, but the rest was okay. While not true letterbox or widescreen format, the picture is matted, and not full screen.

The story lends itself to lots of fights, first over possession of a jewel that will allow the bearer to access the Golden Buddha. This is the Old Master's test to see who has good kung fu.

It turns out that young Chung is the perfect student, and so the Master teaches him his secret kung fu techniques. Strangely, the Master's teaching technique involves not being on hand at all throughout most of Chung's training, leaving him to learn the secret kung fu from a textbook.

One manifestation of this kung fu is the abillity to move objects with chi alone (read; telekenesis). Chung practices using his mental kung fu power to draw a sword from its scabbard, in a scene that will instantly call to mind the phrase, "Use the Force, Chung! Use the Force!"

Well, everybody else and his brother are after the secrets too, which means that Chung and his friends will have plenty of opportunity to practice their new kung fu. They even go so far as to trick (yes, trick!), Chung into having sex with his own girlfriend, so as to make him impure and weaken his kung fu. Apparently, chastity is part of the secret technique!

You'll probably recognize background music from Star Wars, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and James Bond; anything the producers thought they could swipe. It even sounds like they used some muzak versions of the "Planet of the Apes" soundtrack and music from some spaghetti westerns!

Still, this is not the most ludicrous kung fu movie ever made. There are a few good fights, and the film is a pretty good deal for the price. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Non-Existent Drunken Monkey or even Monkey Boxing
I have seen this movie and quite frankly I am extremely disappointed because there is absolutely no drunken monkey or even regular monkey boxing seen anywhere in this movie. I am a dedicated fan of Tai Shing Pek Kwar (i.e. Monkey Kung Fu) and so when I came across this movie I just had to buy it because I thought it had the drunken monkey technique but alas, that was not the case. Am extremely disappointed by this.

2-0 out of 5 stars not what the title says it is
A man named the Silver Eagle goes around fighting and killing off other kung-fu "masters" so he can become the best. Eventually he kills the Shaolin Temple master, whose granddaughter and son (Mo) then try to take their revenge. Mo meets an old beggar who teaches him to fight and who also teaches him humility. Finally the beggar, the granddaughter, and Mo join together to do battle with the Silver Eagle.
The fight scenes are okay, but this movie has nothing to do with the drunken monkey style, monkey style, or even drunken fist/boxing style. I repeat, those styles are NOT in this movie, although (regular) monkey may be alluded to in a few scenes. Personally, I got the movie because I'm interested in kung fu styles and drunken monkey is not in a lot of movies, so I was pretty disappointed when I watched the movie and found out it wasn't there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Style Good Actor = Slightly above average movie
Gordon Liu is pretty good in this movie but not enough to get a five, a boys father is killed and his mother commits forced suicide, so he learns Eight Drunk Gods kungfu to get revenge.

3-0 out of 5 stars Drunken Monkey Kung fu.
Elton Chong is great in this story of revenge and honor. Chong plays a young man taken in by a Kung fu master after his family was killed. Unable to learn kung fu due to the masters orders he is left to do the cleaning and cooking. Harrassed by the other students he tries to learn kung fu in secret but is found out and sent away for punishment. While away his school is attacked by the "Silver Eagle" (Han Ying) and his band of Lackey's. On return from his punishment he finds his master dead, and all the students dead aswell. In fear he runs away and tries to keep a low profile while at the same time trying to find the men responsible. Due to pure chance he encounters a man who is skilled in the Arts of Shaolin Monkey kung fu. After countless acts of begging the old man finally takes Chong as a student, puting him through rigurous, almost torturious training routines. Finally after some time he feels ready, and him and his teacher journey out to find the Deadly "Silver Eagle." Finally the 3 men meat in what becomes a spectacular display of martial arts. One of the most memorable end fights. the "Silver Eagle" is top notch as he takes on the two heroes. Who's kung fu is superior? At first I didnt' think this was as good as I do now, but i've seen the light. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A strangely compelling martial arts film
The Japanese occupation of China is a standard setting for martial arts films, and while this film addresses a familiar theme, The Blazing Ninja does manage to leave a lasting impression on the viewer. At first I felt the ending was rather ambiguous and far from conclusive, but after a little thought I have come to believe it truly is a fitting end to the story. This is no fairy tale, so it is only right that the film not have a fairy tale ending. The story itself revolves around the fight of the Chinese underground to oppose the occupation of their country by the Japanese. There only seem to be a half dozen or so underground members, yet Japan is so determined to destroy the opposition group that they send General Yashido, their greatest spy and most famous ninja, to put the group out of commission for good.It was a little hard to take the Japanese seriously early on in the film because of the typically bad English dubbing - the Japanese characters seem to cackle for no good reason after every sentence, and they sound more like mynah birds than men most of the time - I kept waiting to hear one of them say "Polly wanna cracker."Early on, the focus is on the young Chinese men who take on all comers with their martial arts, but eventually the emphasis shifts principally to Yashido and his old friend Chang-tung, a man who would seemingly betray not only his brother-in-law but his own country in order to keep himself safe.Of course, things are not always as they seem, and a further plot twist later on sets the stage for a tense ending.

There are plenty of fight sequences in this film, and they all seem rather good to me (although the final one could certainly have been extended longer than it was).I didn't see anything that blew my socks off, but these martial arts actors know what they are doing. The only thing really missing is the type of flair that the true legends of kung fu cinema exhibited.I'm not sure why they made a big deal out of Yashido's expert ninja status, as he didn't appear ninja-like at all to me.He mainly walks around in suits berating his underlings and cursing the resistance fighters who oppose him.His fighting time is especially limited, which is actually a good thing when all is said and done, considering the fact that he was by no means a master warrior.

While there are a few familiar faces from martial arts movies of the time, you won't find any real superstars in The Blazing Ninja.Still, the significant amount of kung fu action combined with a story that grew more interesting as the minutes passed combined to eventually command my attention.I'm still cutting my teeth on martial arts films, but The Blazing Ninja is certainly a film I would recommend to others fascinated by or interested in movies of this remarkable genre. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Gordon Liu vs. the 18 Bronzemen!!!!
Gordon Liu is not the main star of this film, but he's in it long enough to get the glory!Great action, including his phenomenal fight against the 18 Bronzemen.Great extras-including an interview with Gordon Liu himself!!I also recommend the Wu tang Clan's other titles like Shaolin Drunkard and Revenge of the Patriots.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fury in the Shaolin Temple
If you like Gordon Liu, then don't waste your money on this DVD. Gordon Liu is in the movie, but this movie does not show off his talent at all. The plot and the story are not good and the action is boring. The DVD format is sharp (considering this is an old movie) but the color format is not that great.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new era in kung fu!!!!!
The Wu has shown us the way again with the Hidden Chambers series!!!! The extras are the BEST ever on a DVD release.Dozens of clips,an interview with the Master Killer himself(!!!), and Wu wizdom from Papa Wu himself. There's even a Temple of Knowledge chamber where real monks pour our their philosophy.Ground Zero and the Wu Tang Clan have it locked down. The flick is alright, but not as good as his other works. He does fight the bronze men though. The extras are longer than the movie I think.I got my moneys worth big time.I have all the series now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fury in Shaolin Temple...w/o Monk Gordon Liu Fights
Fury in the Shaolin Temple'.1982

This is listed as a Gordon Liu movie, however, even though he is in the majority of the movie He does little kung fu in it. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of decent to good martial arts In this movie its just he does about 20% of it and the rest is done by unknowns. Also the opening credits list Philip Ko (aka Kao Fei) like he is a lead in the movie and he plays A villian who gets killed in 4 min!

You will also see quickly that parts of this movie were also in 'Shaolin Drunken Monk'. Now I'm not saying that this is one of those rip off movies, to me it looked like this movie Was shot first and because the movie did not feature more of Liu's kung fu, the film owners Must have decided to re-shoot a new movie but took parts of this movie to make 'SDM'.

If you watch closely you will see the same drunken master, same little boy that played liu As a child and the guy who played Liu's brother are all in 'Fury' and 'SDM'.

The storyline is simple, two masters are on the run after being accused of stealing a book from Shaolin. The two have sons and actually switch each others children. The thought being to teach Ghost fist and Dragon Fist styles to each child so that when they get older they can combine the Styles to make a vicious new one.

While Liu' character called 'Yeung Wang' is still a child, his master is attacked by rogue monks And kidnapped leaving Wang alone. He later finds his way to the Shaolin Temple were he learns Kung fu. Meanwhile the other Child is being taught by Liu's real dad the Dragon Fist. Confusing?

Anyway to make a long story short, the two finally meet after Liu's real dad is killed. The fists are Combined and glory saves the day.

The picture looks like it actually came from a 35mm film rather than a video transfer so its very Very good condition. The Sound is excellent. As for the movie, Gordon Liu fans will be Disappointed as he really does not do much Kung fu in this movie. I read that because Godfrey Ho Was staple at Shaws that Liu did this film as a favor to Ho after Shaws began to close down. He should not have done it as this is not a great movie. Like I said there is good action and Good martial arts as they were choreographed by Chan Yuet San who was the drunk priest in 'The Buddha Assasinator'. He also appeared in 'Shaolin Drunken Monk' too!

As for the DVD, once again Ground Zero blows the competition away with the total setup And display of this disc. It has and interview with Gordon Liu, various film clips that Featured some variation of 18 Bronzemen, Gordon Liu Film Clips, previews of other Ground Zero releases like 'The Best of Shaolin King Fu', 'The 9 Venoms' and others, A music video, brief interview, and Lyrical blades from Wu Tang, more words of wisdom From two real life Kung Fu instructors who look like monks and a page that will link you To the GZ site!

But with all those great extra's it can not save this horrendous waste of Gordon Liu's Talent And time. It will be great when Ground Zero releases a DVD with a great movie as well As great set up. Judging from the Wu Tang Hidden Treasure collection you ain't gonna Find a great movie in the mix. Just average ones.

If you are a collector of Liu movies get this, otherwise, keep the money and spend it on Something else'''.I wish I did. I rate this movie a 2.75 out of 5 ( SDM was only a 3). ... Read more
