5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Disney
This movie perfectly exemplifies what the Disney brand used to stand for before Michael Eisner started leading Disney into its present controversial direction: a quality family movie with a heartwarming, redemptive, and educational story; the kind of movie that families used to trust Disney to make consistently. The numerous excerpts of classical music, from Handel's "Messiah" to Haydn's "The Creation," are presented in a very entertaining and lighthearted manner. They are thus an excellent tool to teach younger children about this style of music in a way that's not stuffy or pretentious. My own early introduction to opera and classical music was through the vintage Bugs Bunny cartoons, like "Rabbit of Seville" and "What's Opera, Doc." This movie can serve much the same function for introducing children to oratorios and lieder. In the process, they will also receive a wonderful morality tale about looking beyond our outer differences to the person that's inside.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever
I love this movie. I have watched this movie at least 50 times. It is in my opinion one of Walt Disney's best. I cried the first time I saw this movie when Taylor and Landy walk up the aisle and shake hands and then Landy goes up and sings. This is a must see for everyone!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is the best movie disney has ever made. I love this story because it involves music and love. This is powerful story.

3-0 out of 5 stars UNREALISTIC
It is 1959 and southern Blanton Academy has been blessed with its new choir master. Unfortunately he is from the north but in time he will lock step with southern tradition. Enter,Taylor the academy's star soloist and Landy, the Black janitor's grandson. The two form a friendship based on their mutual love of music. Landy is enthralled by the classical pieces of the choir while Taylor falls in love with the blues.

Throw in racial tension, hatred and a few beatings and you would think you would have a thrilling picture. It doesn't happen. Disney has given us a sanatized version of civil rights entering in a small town. You see injustices, naivite and misplaced loyalties but most of all you get poor acting. The actors somehow lost their southern accents. We are made to believe that the headmaster is dumb enough to be influenced by an adolescent.

The only redeeming factor of this movie is the music from both genres. The story itself is flawed given the time period in which it is introduced. There are some things that are hard to believe given the context. If you want a nice moral story which will bring a few tears and make you indignant by all means this is the movie for you. If you are looking for a story with depth and a deeper exploration of young Black and White relationships during this time period get something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Disney movie!
This title should be in the directory under the Disney and family genres. Currently, there is another video with the same title from 1995 listed that is actually a classical music video. This movie I highly recommend. Great Disney film. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I want this so much
I really loved this show and it deserved better marketing and a steady place on Fox because it should not have been cancelled.I will always remember the episode with the piece of pie. =(

5-0 out of 5 stars The Suspense Builds...
When will this be out on DVD?It is wonderful to see the placeholder in Amazon, but I hope the release comes.

Andy Richter Controls the Universe will appeal to fans of Newsradio and Arrested Development. They all make use of an ensemble cast, any one of which would, by themselves, carry any normal sitcom (I can easily see "The Byron Show"), but when put together have an amazing affect as everybody plays off everybody else and funny scenes just keep building.Unfortunately, like Newsradio and now perhaps AD, this show died an early death due to network malice. Its one thing to ignore a show entirely and put it on some strange time *and keep it on*, but the network continued to shift times, run multiple replays of the same episode (not that they weren't funny a second or fifth time) and pre-empt with specials. Then they were shocked that it wasn't an immediate hit and cancelled it.

All of the characters were really quirky and funny, even the minor recurring characters (look for Sean Gunn as a recently graduated Frat brother of Andy). And yes, as another reviewer mentioned, Irene Molloy is beautiful and funny (even when she goes on medication). The "Irish" episode is legendary, but there were certainly other winners, such as the dead guy and the trip to Milwaukee.I cannot believe that FOX didn't even bother to air five filmed episodes.I hope these make the DVD.

Well, I've waited six years for Newsradio, I can wait a few months for this...

5-0 out of 5 stars Fans of "Arrested Development" and "Family Guy" would love..
Like "Arrested Development," this offbeat office sitcom featured a talented cast of character actors, a wicked streak of black humor, a soundtrack devoid of canned laughs, and an indifferent patron in FOX, who re-ran the same episodes over and over and eventually killed the show just when the cast was at their creative peak.Unfortunately, "Andy Richter" did not utilize the kind of stunt casting "Arrested Development" has shrewdly used to stay alive, though there were great guest spots from Erik Estrada (CHiPS), Beth Littleford (Daily Show), Lola Glaudini (Sopranos), June Lockhart, Conan O'Brien, Amy Weber and others.Check out the episode guide at http://www.tvtome.com/AndyRichterControlstheUniverse/guide.html.There were 19 episodes produced, and five of those went unaired!Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld, Frasier, Cheers), John Fortenberry (Arrested Development), Bryan Gordon (Freaks And Geeks), and Will Mackenzie (Everybody Loves Raymond) directed many of the episodes and Tom Blacha (TV Funhouse), Michael Shipley (Family Guy), and Jim Bernstein (Family Guy) were among the writers. In fact, fans of "Family Guy" will appreciate the frequent cartoonish non-sequiturs that were a staple of this show, while "Arrested" fans will appreciate the stellar cast, documentary-style direction (like "Arrested," the show was shot on film), and truly warped sense of humor. If this doesn't appear in a DVD box (and I mean, come on, FOX, you released "Greg The Bunny" and "Undeclared"), maybe we'll at least get reruns at 2am on Comedy Central or something.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another brilliant show canceled in its prime.
When Andy Richter Controls The Universe premiered on FOX in 2002, it was a breath of fresh air. Instead of endless, nameless reality shows (and this was three years ago!) and whiny sitcoms about twenty-somethings whining ad nauseum about their date du jour, ARCTU dealt with an everyman (Andy), and the wacky situations he finds himself getting into, along with Family Guy-esque sequences and flashbacks. The characters were likable (my favorites being the VERY cute Wendy, and the neurotic, nebbish Byron), the writing was top-notch, and it was easily the kind of show you'd actually plan on watching Tuesday night. It carried on Seinfeld's tradition of "No Hugging, No Learning", it had no moral value, it didn't make you think about the plight of society, and I and every other fellow fan of the show would have it no other way. It just made you laugh!

Of course, this is FOX we're talking here (the same rocket scientists that canceled Family Guy, but at least that's coming back), so the second they shifted the time slot all over the place, I knew it was in trouble. Then, of course, inevitably, because it was simply too good for prime time, it got canceled in 2003. It hasn't been seen on regular cable TV since.

First, about FOX. Who the hell makes the decisions there? They leave generic, powder-puff crap and boring reality TV on, but cancel shows with actual MERIT? Let's face the facts: FOX is done. FOX has jumped the shark. I guarantee you, friends, the day the Simpsons ends (don't get me wrong, though, I love the Simpsons) is the day that FOX ends.

Now, about this being released on DVD. I'm very happy to see the Amazon page up, that gives me hope, but it still says that the studio is not working on it. So I say: GET THIS DVD OUT!!! ASAP!!! If Arrested Development gets its own set, why not ARCTU? Come on, 20th Century Fox, get cracking!

If you want to see ARCTU hit DVD, go to www.petitionspot.com/petitions/andyrichtercontrolstheuniversedvd, and sign the petition!

5-0 out of 5 stars I hope this show comes out on DVD!!
I really enjoyed this show and hope it comes out on DVD some day.I also liked Larry Darryl and Darryl; they were quite funny.I also liked Stefanie and Michael, though as I remember I don't think either character is in the first season. There were so many good but quirky characters on this show, and great comical acting. I'm hoping whatever studio that owns the rights to this show releases it on DVD, and soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Please Release It!
This is undoubtedly one of the best comedy series I have ever seen. It even betters the previous Bob Newhart Show. I am certain many people who was lucky to see it will agree with me and will buy it. How can I forget the brothers Larry, Darryl and Darryl! the neighbor, the town hall meetings, etc. Please, please release it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Way Too Funny for TV
WKRP in Cincinnati was one of the (if not "the") most side-splittingly funny sitcoms of the late 70's/early 80's.The ensemble cast was custom-tailored to its various roles, and the dialogue was priceless.Invariably, the well-written scripts often made you think about larger issues in life (even when you disagreed with the writers' point of view) while making you laugh your brains out.Unlike so many shows of that era, you didn't need to be (a) smoking weed or (b) snorting coke or (c) otherwise brain-dead to "get" the humor.Truly a classic, beautifully done TV.Do everyone a favor.Put it on DVD.It was an "all-timer."

5-0 out of 5 stars As God is my witness...
"As God is my witness...I thought turkeys could fly."
That is from the most popular episode of this hilarious series called "Turkeys Away".It was thier Thanksgiving themed episode which should be aired traditionally every Thanksgiving!Sadly the station manager didn't realize his free turkey give-away from a helicopter at a shopping center would end with such "carnage".Poor Les Nesman was left to report the live feed on air.

As God is my witness, I thought this would be out on DVD by now!!

5-0 out of 5 stars INFINITY STARS!!!!
C'MON, GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!!! JOHNNY FEVER ZONING OUT TO THE SOUND OF DOGS BARKING ON THE AIR, HERB AND HIS SLEAZY USED CAR SALESMAN SUITS, LES NESMAN'S BROADCAST OF THE TURKEY TRAGEDY, MR. CARLSON'S TOY COLLECTION, SCUM OF THE EARTH, AND PHONE COPS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Release Senior Rod-wi-geez, please!
I recently was at the video rental shop here, which has a huge section of TV series to rent.Every time I go down this isle, I have to sigh a bit, as WKRP isn't there, among the really really lame air headed stuff they do have.Every week I check several sites online, including amazon to see if its release is pending.I rarely watch network TV, but being a huge music fan, I'll always remember this series fondly.I even have a WKRP t-shirt that I wear from time to time.I always get comments about that.Like, "oh yeah, Lonnie Anderson, I remember that!"But despite us male fans admiration, she was not the main reason we watched.Who didn't want to be like Johnny Fever or Venus Flytrap, and work in a rock n' roll radio station?Whatever, it's just that this series had so many memorable moments, that lifted it above the usual 70's drivel of cop shows and more cop shows.I've got one rule of thumb, if it's memorable, it's probably great. So get the liscensing business straightened out, 20th Century Fox, and give us back our 'KRP!!!(I'll buy it all...)

5-0 out of 5 stars WKRP the best
I can't understand why the best sit com ever, WKRP, hasn't come out on DVD yet and some of the worst junk ever already has. This is a classic comedy and should have been on for 10 years if you go by what "Friends" or "Seinfeld" did. Please, get this great show out there so we can laugh again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST SHOW EVER!!!
This is truely one of the better shows ever made.Line after line of jokes between the characters will keep you laughing through every episode. The casting is brillant and there is very good chemisty between the cast members keeping the story believable and making you not remember the actors or actresses from other roles. This show was a hit when it aired on CBS and millions of women and men watch reruns of the show on Lifetime, but watching the reruns is just not the same as owning the DVD, because then you can watch any episode any time you want. This is just the first of six seasons of the Nanny which will hopefully get released on DVD soon after this one.I guaruntee you'll love this DVD and get its use out of it.This season DVD is great and each season is better than the one before it.So, if you want to watch a comedy with some good advice, romance, and disasters(that do get solved), then buy The Nanny on DVD.This is my favorite show out of all shows ever made!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Nanny starring Fran Drescher
The show is not out yet but will be a blockbuster seller when it does. It was and is one of the funniest TV series on the air. It was a laugh maker from the very first episode. If they were available, I would buy all six seasons at one time. The combination of all the cast members fit so well and played off on each other was great. So all you fans, be ready to grab the show up when it put out on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prepare for great laughs!! The Nanny is hilarious!
Finally! My favorite new modern classic comedy is finally on DVD! The Nanny is hilariously funny! You will not stop laughing even when you have watched it over and over and know where all the jokes are! The entire cast is brilliant and the writing is right on target! This is refreshing comedy, even 12 years later. Fran Drescher is so unique, you will not find another like her anywhere else, so do not bother to look! Charles Shaughnessy is gorgeous and extremely funny as the rich, broadway producer who tries to keep Fran at bay and in line! Daniel Davies is hysterical as the nosy butler (with a yenta *lol*) who is always on Fran's side and always gives C.C. Babcock hell! Lauren Lane (as C.C.) herself is a brilliant performer holding her own in this insanely funny joyride of a sitcom! The child actors (Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury and Madeline Zima) are amazingly funny in their own right, giving very polished performances and the recurring guest stars, Renee Taylor, Rachel Chagall and Ann Guilbert add much comic value to this zany show.
My niece requested Fran on [DVD] even before this was a glimmer of hope in the future and even if she hadn't requested it, I had already made plans to own one of the most entertaining sitcoms on DVD. Thank you Sony for finally giving us Fran Fine and the rest of the cast! DVD special features are the usual fare but sure to entertain you; two audio commentaries (by Fran Drescher) and a special retrospective "The Making of The Nanny"...not that you need any special features to enjoy this season 1 set. If you have never seen The Nanny (*horror!*) you must get this to find out what you have been missing! And it's even educational...you get to learn some Yiddish!
Some Season 1 special guest stars/cameo appearances: Andy Dick, Eric Braeden, Carol Channing, Patti LaBelle and Dan Aykroyd. ... Read more
