5-0 out of 5 stars Still Great All These Decades Later!
What's not to like about this treasured Halloween "Peanuts" tale? There's the fabulous piano music score. ... Linus and his blanket keeping watch in the nearby pumpkin patch, awaiting the infamous "Great Pumpkin". ... Sally getting gypped out of "Tricks or Treats". ... Snoopy dueling the Red Baron atop his doghouse. ... And, of course, the hilarity (and sadness at the same time) of watching Charlie Brown accumulate a bagful of rocks on Halloween Night.

These indelible set-pieces make up one of the most endearing, and timeless, holiday classics ever broadcast on television.

"It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", first telecast way back in 1966, will forever be a holiday favorite...whether it be on broadcast TV (remember the original TV commercials for Coca-Cola, McDonald's, and Dolly Madison Cakes?), VHS Video, or DVD.

Now ... if only some kindly neighbor could just toss a Snicker's Bar (or maybe even a fresh Dolly Madison Cupcake) into Charlie Brown's bag, I think we'd all feel better. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars The #1 Halloween Classic!
The Halloween Special never caught on quite as strongly as the Christmas Special over the past few decades, but there was a time when they were something many of us looked forward to annually, and today some of them are now considered just as much classics as their Christmas counterparts. There was the Garfield Halloween Special, the live-action specials "The Worst Witch" and "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" (known as 'The Night Dracula Saved the World' on VHS), Bugs Bunny's Halloween Special, "Raggedy Ann and Andy and the Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile," and a few others. The king of the Halloween Specials, of course, was the 1960's classic, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"
It's Halloween, and everyone is getting ready to go trick or treating, followed by the big Halloween party at Violet's house. Somehow, Charlie Brown has recieved an invitation too! Everyone is excited! But Linus has different plans. Linus is a firm believer in The Great Pumpkin, Halloween's answer to Santa Claus. It seems that every Halloween Night, the Great Pumpkin flies through the sky in search of the most sincere pumpkin patch around, and when he finds it, the lucky kids who are waiting there for him will get tons of presents and candy! Everyone thinks Linus must be crazy! But Charlie Brown's little sister, Sally, has a huge crush on Linus, and has decided to take a chance on him. She agrees to give up trick or treats and spend the night sitting in the pumpkin patch with Linus, waiting for The Great Pumpkin to arrive.
"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," is loads of Halloween fun with our favorite group of sassy comic strip kids. Snoopy performs his legendary WW1 reenactments, Lucy is meaner than ever, and Charlie Brown couldn't be Charlie Brownier. Who else could get nothing but rocks when trick or treating? The DVD is great, with a bonus Charlie Brown Special to boot! "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown!" In this special, Linus suggests that Charlie Brown should run for class president, but when Lucy takes a poll, it appears that Linus would have a much better chance. The Peanuts gang immediately sets to work on getting Linus elected, but it seems that the Great Pumpkin will ruin yet another day in Linus' life in the end. It's a fun little special, but nowhere near as wonderful as "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" Pick this one up for the feature presentation, but stick around for the extra!

5-0 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC CLASSIC!
A true treat for an October night. This is a show for all to see. This show brings back some memories of running around getting candy, playing in the fall leaves, and wishing the sixties would never end. A DVD for all to own. The following are the air dates for the sixties.
CBS 8:30 - 9 Thursday 10/27/66
CBS 7:30 - 8 Thursday 10/26/67
CBS 7:30 - 8 Thursday 10/24/68

Truly a DVD to have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dated, Yet Still Tons of Fun; A True Classic!
Yes, you read correctly: four stars. Not five. Why, might you ask? Am I crazy? No, I am not. At least I don't think I am :)

I am a huge fan of Peanuts. Every year, I look forward to the holiday specials on television. IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is one of them. Yet, I must admit: much like A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING and IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN, this show is kind of dated. I do still love it -- the characters and classic Peanuts gags we have all come to cherish. But truth be told, the animation in these earlier specials is sort of crude and the timing between a lot of the dialogue is very very very offbeat. So much so that it can actually get boring at times.

Yet I still love them. There is just something about these shows that we can all relate to again and again. Yes, the later films, tv shows and specials are all better drawn, and the timing is right on the dot; and some have a much smoother feel.

But these, I think, contain a certain nostalgic feeling. And that's why they are "classics."

5-0 out of 5 stars Popcorn and Toast Forever
The "Peanuts" TV specials changed the way I celebrate every holiday from Halloween to Arbor Day. I raced home to watch "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" on ABC this year, having not seen it since 1994. I watched it with wide eyes and, the next day, played the tape for my 19 month-old nephew, who learned the word "Snoopy" two weeks ago.

Even to my jaded almost-30 eyes, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" absolutely rocks. Peanuts TV specials lost a little charm when Vince Guaraldi passed on, but fortunately he scored this one. There's a Woodstock-themed song performed by Jack Sheldon -- not as good as his "Amendment Song" for "The Simpsons" (what is?), but it's hummable.

All the great "Peanuts" moments are here: Lucy's one scene is a football gag; there's a lively remix of Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy" during the popcorn-and-toast montage; Snoopy climbs out of a mailbox and gets assaulted by a wayard deck chair (it's so *true*!). Linus gives a great speech on the meaning of Chr -- I mean, Thanksgiving. The jive handshake Franklin slips Charlie Brown is adorable in a 1973 kind of way.

My nephew was riveted to the screen for the Snoopy and Woodstock sequence, doubling over in laughter when the ping-pong table folded in half, taking Snoopy with it. These five minutes pleased him so much that I reran that portion of the tape two more times. He kept pointing to the screen and shouting "Doopy!" every fifteen seconds.

Not the best "Peanuts" holiday -- "Christmas" and "Great Pumpkin" are desert-island material -- but if it serves to get my nephew into a lifetime of Charles M Schulz worship, I'll call it the most valuable video in my collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The forgotten Peanuts holiday special
While people often gush -- and rightly so -- about the Charlie Brown Christmas and Halloween cartoons, I often feel like this is the "lost" Peanuts holiday special that doesn't quite get the attention of its more popular siblings.

Charlie Brown, through no fault of his own, gets roped into preparing a Thanksgiving dinner for Peppermint Patty and all his friends. And this from a boy who can barely make cold cereal and toast. Snoopy and Woodstock lend a hand in the kitchen with predictably silly results.

While it's not as iconic as some of the other Peanuts specials, it's a good story that really grasps the characters very well. This DVD also features "The Mayflower Voyages," one of several specials that cast the Peanuts characters as participants in American history. It's a good educational tool for the kids, mixing in some of the harsher facts of life at Plymouth Rock with the softer, happier mood of the Peanuts gang. Together, these two cartoons are well worth the DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars Weakest of the "Big Three"
Unlike the timeless 5-star Christmas and Halloween classics, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving falls short. Here the gang has been transplanted from the small-town Midwest with its dark, cold fall and winters to some suburban-type setting where people can walk around in shorts in late-November.

Instead of the earnest adult-like children, we get an attempt at early-70s hip wisecracking. Further severely dating the show to 1973 is the soundtrack, typified by the horrid jazzy blues vocal number "Little Birdy" and a fight snoopy has with an animated lawn chair (segment is total filler).

The voiceovers are distracting too. Although, the actors who did the Christmas and Halloween specials were certainly well into adolescents by the time the Thanksgiving special was made, there was not even an attempt to retain any similarity when hiring the new actors (with the exception of Linus, who was voiced by the brother of the kid who did the Christmas and Halloween specials). They also sound a bit older and (perhaps as a result?)are much more wooden in their delivery.

That being said, there aren't very many Thanksgiving specials out there and it does give a short history of the holiday. It will certainly give the kids something to watch for 25 minutes during halftime.

But if you are expecting the sincerity and magic of the Christmas and Halloween specials, you will be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gobble Gobble, Charlie Brown. ;)
1973's "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" is an adorable, animated classic that makes me want to eat popcorn, toast, and jellybeans every year! It's one of the few holiday treats that suit older audiences as well as younger ones.
Here's the basic synopsis: Peppermint Patty invites herself, Marcie, and Franklin to Charlie Brown's house for a wholesome Thanksgiving dinner. The problem: Charlie has to go to his Grandmother's house at 4:30. AND he doesn't know anything about cooking a turkey and cranberry sauce. With the help of Linus, Snoopy, and little Woodstock, Charlie tries to make meals for Patty and her guests, only to realize that food alone isn't thankful...his friends and family are. Watch out for Snoopy, the Peanut Gang's favorite dog! In this feature, he wrestles with a beach chair, puts a tablecloth on a pool table, and marches in Pilgrim garb!
This is a DVD I highly recommend, as well as "The Great Pumpkin" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

3-0 out of 5 stars AN HONEST-TO-GOD CLASSIC
Yes, you read correctly: three stars. Not five. Why, might you ask? Am I crazy? No, I am not. At least I don't think I am :)

I am a huge fan of Peanuts. Every year, I look forward to the holiday specials on television. A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING is one of them. Yet, I must admit: much like IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN and IT'S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN, this show is kind of dated. I do still love it -- the characters and classic Peanuts gags we have all come to cherish. Not to mention having a great storyline. But truth be told, the timing between most of the dialogue is very very very offbeat (example: towards the beginning, when Charlie Brown, Linus and Sally are conversing on the sidewalk, they sound like robots; and their timing is way off. During one instance, Linus stops talking, and there is a two or three second pause before Sally starts yelling. I mean, it's like, "Where did that come from?" LOL)).

And Peppermint Patty's voice -- that's just annoying.

Yet I still love them. There is just something about these shows that we can all relate to again and again. Yes, the later films, tv shows and specials are all better drawn, and the timing is a lot better; and some have a much smoother feel.

But these, I think, contain a certain nostalgic feeling. And that's why they are "classics."

I realize that some fans may be angry with this review; that I am somehow insulting Charles Schulz. But, you know what? I am sure even he would agree, if he saw the Thanksgiving show now, that, say, episodes from his mastefully done Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show or the NASA special is more smooth-flowing and the timing is better.

Before you click "no" under this review, watch the Thanksgiving show again. You'll see what I mean by boring pauses in between much of the dialogue.

I am not being mean here. I love Charles Schulz, and am just being perfectly honest about how I feel. And while A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING is a true, honest-to-God classic, it is not one of the greatest holiday specials ever made. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars It's not the same!
I'm a long time fan of Peanuts since my childhood and was very sadden with Schulz's death. I was excited with Schulz's very last video, but very disappointed as the style of his drawings are not the same. Schulz NEVER put adults in his comic strips or his videos which they appear with "honky" voices. I think Schulz probably died before he'd actually finished the drawings himself and someone else continued to finish the video by adding adults. "It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown" is such a dissappointment with adults. It's just not the same style drawings and having adults is a appalling. I would not recommend this video to others.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE ADULTS ARE SEEN AND HEARD, MAN!
Awful! Stick to the older original cartoons. This is just terrible.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zero Stars
I'm thankful that I took this loser of a cartoon out of the library instead of purchasing it. This is the worst Charlie Brown film ever made and the folks involved in its creation should be ashamed. Charles Schulz would not be pleased. First of all, it features adults! Charlie Brown is supposed to be a kids-only universe, where adults are not even audible, let alone seen. The grown-up animation looks nothing like the peanuts - it's as though modern animation had been cut and pasted into the show. The story line is stupid, there is no existential angst to be found, and Charlie Brown SMILES all throughout. AAAAAGH!
If you love Peanuts, don't see this one - it'll break your heart.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is garbage.
I was wary about buying this after seeing another of the latter-day Peanuts specials, "It Was My Best Birthday Ever, Charlie Brown". That show was an all time low point in the Charlie Brown specials. But when I saw this at my local library, I decided to give it a shot. I think this one is just as bad. In fact, it's horrible! There is so little story that several scenes are here obviously just to fill up time. Scenes that show Snoopy playing the squeeze box on top of his house, mice line dancing, and city council members singing barbershop quartet music make you realize that this program should never have been produced. It seems like so much was jam packed into the 30 minute specials from the 1960s and the viewing time went by so fast. This special is also a half hour but moves so slow and seems like it's never going to finally die...uh, I mean end. I could watch the Christmas and Halloween specials a million times and never tire of them, but I could never imagine having to sit through this again. It would be too painful. The adults just don't work and a lot of the kids are not even Peanuts characters! Don't let the banner at the top of cover fool you. This is no "classic"!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for Kids and Adults
Although, this one is done with a different style than the other Peanuts videos, we enjoyed this one just as much if not more. In this one, they show the adults and they really talk. The whole video had an upbeat mood, and there was music, dancing and humor. I just wish it was a little longer or included another video since it seems short. This video also includes an interesting look at Peanuts through the years with the creator, Mr. Schultz. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still brings tears to your eyes!
A TRUE Christmas classic. There are lots of great Christmas movies and TV shows that are fun to watch each year, from CHRISTMAS VACATION to THE GRINCH. But there is something special about Charlie Brown's take.

First of all, it's the only mainstream Christmas classic that actually DARES to bring the story of the birth of Jesus to front and center!! When Linus takes centerstage and quotes the bible for us, you can almost feel the air suck out of the room. It's a moment of simple drama that can really bring a tear to your eye. Linus, without saying a harsh word, essentially tells everyone to "shut up and remember the meaning of this holiday!" It's a beautiful moment.

There's plenty of amusing stuff too. The pitiful tree...Snoopy's hijinks, etc. It's not laugh out loud funny, of course, but sweet and innocent. These are kids who live in a world without adults...and don't seem to need them either! It's always a nice 22 minute trip down memory lane. Every adult should own this...if only to take minute to journey back to childhood. And kids need to keep seeing this. I'm glad it has remained a classic.

The animation is no great shakes, of course, but the style is executed marvelously. The voice acting, on the other hand, leaves nothing to be desired. The kids involved have done a terrific job. The music, ever present, is great, as we've come to expect from any Peanuts special. All in all, this is a MUST OWN DVD.

(I do wish there were more extras available. Other than a 2nd Christmas special...it's okay, but no classic...there is nothing. Can't believe there isn't some little documentary or something out there.)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gunuine Christmas Classic For All Ages
Perhaps the most endearing of all the Charlie Brown specials is "A Charlie Brown Christmas", the first in a long series of made for t.v. half hour films portraying the famous Peanuts Gang.

For almost forty years, watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas" has been an eagerly anticipated event for millions of households. I recall watching it as far back as twenty-two years ago, and have watched it every Christmas since.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" was made in a time when commercialism was running rampant all over the country. Stores advertising to shoppers what they ought to buy, long before Thanksgiving had come and gone. Unfortunately, we still see this blatant commercialism today, which makes this short film so very poignant and all the more special.

Charlie Brown is assigned to direct the school Christmas pageant, much to his glee; for he feels accepted and worthy. When Lucy tells him to go out and get an alumminum tree, he takes Linus along with him. What Charlie Brown ultimately gets is a small, sickly looking tree, which is rapidly loosing its needles. But, Charlie can see how much the tree "needs him", somebody; something which he can identity with.

When he returns, he finds the gang dancing to un-Christmas like music, instead of rehearsing their lines. They stop to take a look at the tree he brought, immediately burtsing out in mocking laughter. Apparently Charlie Brown has failed again. In disgust and humiliation he flees, taking the tree with him. And when he comes upon Snoopy's dog house, all decked out in Christmas lights, not to celebrate the joyous holiday, but to win money in a contest, Charlie Brown has had enough, and almost loses all faith in Christmas.

Linus saves the day, somehow able to bring the tree back to life, and make it look much healthier and stronger. But it is when he explains the meaning of Christmas that the "gang" gets the point of Christmas, and what Charlie Brown was trying to do.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" ends with newfound meaning for Christmas, hopefully not soon forgotten by either the Peanuts Gang, or, more importantly ... us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holiday Tradition
when I was growing up, during the week before Thanksgiving, I would pull out my copy of 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' and would watch it constantly until Christmas, its one of my FAVORITE holiday movies of all time. I recently started my own tradition with my little ones by introducing them to this movie, and each year as the holidays start to arrive they beg me to pull it out and we watch it every day until Christmas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I loved A Charlie Brown Christmas growing up, but didn't know if it would truly hold up for the next generation - my daughter. Well, she's 19 months old now and she's been watching it since her first birthday - she asks to see it a couple times a week! She absolutely adores it, so even though it's summer - it's Christmas with the Peanuts gang in our house! You MUST let your little one's experience the magic of this wonderful show.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Christmas special
I realize that I am writing this several weeks after Christmas, and this is a Christmas DVD, but this is the first year that I missed watching "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on television, so I rented the DVD. Ever since I was a little boy, this has been my favorite Christmas special, and one that I always looked forward to watching every year. I grew up reading the Peanuts comic strips and I grew up watching the Peanuts Christmas special.

Charlie Brown is depressed. He can't seem to get himself into the Christmas spirit. He doesn't like the commercialism of Christmas and scarcely knows the true meaning of Christmas. Lucy selects Charlie Brown to be the director of their Christmas play and he decides to get a Christmas tree for the production. The other kids tell him to get a "nice shiny aluminum tree, maybe a pink one", but Charlie Brown and Linus bring back a sad looking real tree. Charlie Brown is almost laughed out of the auditorium, but when he asks if anyone knows what Christmas is all about, Linus has the answer. Linus recites a passage from the Bible telling of the birth of Jesus. Charlie Brown is cheered and leaves with the tree. He tries to decorate the little tree, but even that is ruined. Linus and the gang follow behind, fix up the tree, and at the end, they show the true spirit of Christmas.

It is a sweet little Christmas special, filled with memorable moments that will always make me smile. The one thing that amazes me is that Charles Schulz was able to include Linus's speech near the end about the birth of Jesus. I don't imagine that would have been able to be included today, but I think the special is all the stronger for it. I have a hard time imagining that any new Christmas show will ever hold as special a place in my heart as "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

This DVD also includes "It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown" (1992). This Christmas feature is lacking the overall charm and emotion of the older special, but it has a lot more humor. It is also different from the first Christmas special in that this one is more a series of vignettes (perhaps based on Schulz's comic strips) than a complete story. There are sequences with Charlie Brown trying to sell Christmas wreaths before Thanksgiving, and of Sally rehearsing for a Christmas play. Sally's sole line is "Hark!", though I think she missed the rest of her lines where the herald angels sing. It is a cute cartoon, but ultimately it does not quite live up to "A Charlie Brown Christmas", but it my mind, nothing can live up to that one. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars One really good and two not so good Peanuts specials
Here's another triple shot of Peanuts on DVD. There are three complete Peanuts specials on this disc and the quality of the three varies greatly. First up is "A Charlie Brown Valentine" from 2002. This is not to be confused with the more entertaining "Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown" from 1975 which is on another DVD collection. "A Charlie Brown Valentine" was produced after Charles Schulz' death and like most of the latter day Peanuts specials, it's not much to get excited about. It's not really bad, like "The Pied Piper" or "It Was My Best Birthday" though. There's really no story line other than that it's near Valentines day. All of the little "skits" contained in this half hour cartoon are lifted straight from the Peanuts comic strip, a la "The Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show" TV series from the 1980s. Since a lot of the strips that it represents were good, it doesn't fall flat on it's face, but it's still pretty lame compared to the shows from the glory days. I'd give it 2 stars.
The second offering on this disc is much, much better, as it was produced during the first decade of Peanuts specials. While it's no "Charlie Brown Christmas" or "Great Pumpkin", this 1973 cartoon, "There's No Time For Love, Charlie Brown" is a keeper. It has a lot of the "classic" Peanuts bits like Marcie calling Peppermint Patty "sir" and a Snoopy segment that includes his "Joe Cool" theme song. Like "A Charlie Brown Valentine" the first several minutes of "No Time For Love" is a lot of gags lifted from the comic pages, this time dealing with school. "No Time For Love" was produced shortly before "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" and is of the same quality. I'd give it a strong 4 stars.
Up next is a 1981 effort called "Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown". It's an interesting story but isn't executed very well. Like most of the 80s and 90s Peanuts specials this one suffers a lot. The charm of the earlier specials is absent here and the story seems to move rather slowly. In this one, Charlie Brown ends up a loser, whereas in "No Time For Love" he winds up winning, scoring a kiss from Marcie and an "A" on a school paper. Here, Linus steals his dreamgirl. I'd almost give this one 3 stars for effort but it doesn't quite make it, so 2 stars.
So that's 2 plus 4 plus 2 divided by 3 equaling a DVD worthy of 2.6 stars. Since I like "There's No Time For Love" so much, I'll bump it up to 3.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not a classic!
I mistakenly bought this at the store where they didn't have "Be My Valentine C. B.", so I wasn't aware that this was different. I thought I'd replace our old video, but, as it turns out, the old classic with the briefcases, the heart-shaped shaving lotion, Snoopy clipping a music box Valentine, and Linus hurling chocolates into Snoopy's mouth is not on this DVD. With 2 little ones with me, I did not take the time to read the back. This is for an older crowd. My preschoolers still beg for the old video, while my school kids DO enjoy this DVD (but no contest, the other one wins). I would regret my mistake except that it has 3 "shows" on it and supplements the original quite nicely. Just know that the original is not on here and you'll probably be more pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love is in the air- especially toward this DVD.
Love is in the air: Lucy loves Schroeder, Peppermint Patty and Marcie love Charlie Brown, Sally loves Linus, and, of course, Charlie Brown loves the little Red Haired Girl. This delightful love triangle (or would that be quadrilateral?) features the music of David Benoit, which is almost as good as original composer Vince Guaraldi. The only things that could make this show better are the voices (especially Sally's- any higher and she'd break your TV screen) and the design of the Little Red Haired Girl. Since Schulz died before this was made, I doubt he designed the little Red Haired Girl, so they should have stayed consistent with her design in "It's Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown" and "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown." Schulz didn't design that one, but I think that is a cuter design.

"There's no time for love, Charlie Brown" features original Guaraldi music and many brief sketches that make me laugh. I enjoy the grocery store version of "Joe Cool" and the silliness of the fact that the kids are in the supermarket but think it's an art museum. But the opening title sure is retro!

"Someday you'll find her, Charlie Brown" is terrible! I don't think it's even written by Schulz, the music is bad because it isn't by Benoit or Guaraldi, and they show adults! In it Linus meets the girl of Charlie Brown's dreams: compare it to "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown." Linus is a girlthief!

But "A Charlie Brown Valentine" is good. ... Read more

I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown might otherwise be called "Peanuts: The Next Generation" for its sprightly emphasis on Linus and Lucy's younger brother, Rerun, and his quest to be worthy of a pet pooch. Like a, well, dog with a bone, Rerun is intent on forging a happy friendship with a canine as cool as Charlie Brown's Snoopy--in fact, he keeps coming around to see if Snoopy wants to play. (Of course, Snoopy's idea of playing is making Rerun his co-pilot in the imaginary cockpit of his imaginary World War I bomber.) This holiday season television special is not the wise, enduring classic that is 1965's A Charlie Brown Christmas, but it is charming and sweet, particularly when Snoopy's brother, the desert-dwelling Spike, comes to stay. Schroeder fans will enjoy the usual shtick between love-struck Lucy and the piano genius' detachment. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best animated films ever made.
I love this movie. With the exception of Pepermint Patty and Marcy, it has all the classic elements of the Peanuts gang that made them so cute: Charlie Brown can't fly a kite because he's afraid the trees will eat it, his baseball team always loses, Snoopy thinks he's a WWI fighter, Shroeder plays great symphonies on the tiny piano, Linus adoring his blanket, and of course, Lucy pulling away the football. I love the songs and kiddie jokes which tell of how Charlie Brown is enrolled in the national spelling bee. All 84 mintues of it are pure delight, even the long musical interludes. And is it possible to not want to shed a tear at the end?

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Paramount Family Favorite
Good grief. G-O-O-D G-R-I-E-F. Good grief. Even though Woodstock, Peppermint Patty and Marcie did not appear, (Neither
did Rerun) This is still a great movie. Charlie Brown tries to
volunteer for a spelling bee,But Lucy Van Pelt, Frieda (who blew
bubble gum at the baseball game) and Violet think he's just a
"Failure Face". There's not just that spelling bee, There's More.
Before the spelling bee, Charlie Brown has a baseball game to play. Some parts are funny. Frieda blows bubble gum,Pig Pen puts
dust on the ball,Snoopy ( Voiced by Bill Melendez, who produces
with Lee Mendelson) yawns and gets the ball in his mouth, Linus
Van Pelt (Brother of Lucy van Pelt) puts his security blanket
(Which is his trademark) in his baseball hat and Frieda,Violet and Patty(Not related to Peppermint Patty) do not catch the ball.
Although some parts could look like romance scenes like Lucy
kissing Schroeder and Sally (Related to Charlie Brown) says to
Linus "Isn't He The Cutest thing", This film is great and is
the 1st full-length film. F-I-L-M. Film. Cinema Center Films,CBS
Video,Cbs/Fox Video,Fox Video,Paramount Pictures,1969,Rated G.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Grief, A Spelling Bee!
This is some good movie, but there's a sad ending. But I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Boy Named Charlie Brown
I am an 18 year old college student who, after completing high school, have never learned any lessons as important as the life lessons that I have learned from this film. Poignant, sentimental, and heartwarming, this film delivers moving memories and gentle reminders for the older audiences and instills a sense of innocence and natural truth in the younger ones. Truly a classic of the 20th century. Film highlights; original music compositions and various other selections, musical montages, and the excellently portrayed messages of loss, discovery and acceptance.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the Essential Peanuts movies. I love this.
When I was a little kid back in the day I loved this movie so much. It was so magical and the music just could not be compared. I enjoyed everything about the film, from the characters to the dialogue to the words they would flash on the screen. Even when Snoopy was ice skating in the park I loved that to death. This was everything to me when I was a kid and I will show this to my kids if I ever have them. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Peanuts Movie EVER!!!!
I have purchased a dozen or so Peanuts videos as my wife is a big fan of anything "Snoopy".That is, until this movie. My family sat down together today to watch with the anticipation of seeing the normal Peanuts humor and wit.Their descriptions half-way through the movie were "wierd" and "boring".The movie is incredibly long for a Peanuts film at about 90 minutes.Much of this time is filled with unnecessary songs attempting to make this video some type of '70s musical.

Snoopy is rude, mean, and even ungrateful to Charlie Brown in the first part of the movie. He spends days hanging out at the beach with Peppermint Patty for totally unexplained reasons. It makes you wonder why everyone is so glad to see him when he comes back in the end (Oops! I gave away the ending!)The ending is mercifully short, but predictable after being painfully dragged through the first 90% of the video.

This should have been a 30 minute video. It seems that the creators tried to add to much "filler" to drag it out to a full-length film but they neglected to add anything meaningful to the story.

I gave it one star since 3 of the 4 members of my family fell asleep during the video (the daughter who stayed awake was doing homework instead of paying attention to the story.)This one is definitely going on the back shelf or on eBay!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Snoopy, Come Home, Why, Oh,Why do You Roam?"
I have fond childhood memories of watching this with my mom, and singing along with the songs of the movies. I also remember that this was one of the most entertianing movies I have ever watched, and I didn't even know it at the time. I felt good when I watched this movie, and I showed emotion towards it, and it has made me teary everytime I watch it(I am a man, just so you know). It has a devestating emotional effect for a cartoon. I have watched it today, and am in awe at that it has such a strong emotional feel to it. I have always liked Charlie Brown, I owned all of the movies, I played with the Snoopy doll, I had the sippy cups. I have also watched the other movies(Bon Voyage,Charlie Brown(And Don't Come Back!), Race For Your Life Charlie Brown.) and they are great in their own way, but they don't even compare to this.

Snoopy is a dog. He is allowed to go places that Humans are allowed to go, He goes to the library, the Beach. One day, that is taken away from him(this is just a minor underplot). He one day, gets a letter from his former owner Lyla, She is sick, and in a hospital, and is lonely, so Snoopy packs up and takes Woodstock and they go on a journey to see Lyla. Charlie Brown doesn't quite understand why his dog left. He feels that he has been a bad owner, and starts pondering how much better Lila is. The Gang starts to feel sad that Snoop has left. Linus is sad that he doesn't have Snoopy to shoo away form his blanket. Lucy feels sad that she can't box with Snoopy or do whatever else with him. Charlie Brown misses him the most and has lack of sleep because of it. Linus finds out about Lila, and sees that she was Snoopy's previous owner, and that Charlie Brown had bought a used dog. He feels sad.

Snoopy and Woodstock get to the hospital, They find out a obstecle is blocking them from seeing Lila, A No Dogs Allowed Sign. They are determined to get in, and they do. Lila is happy to see him and they play in The Hospital, and Lila gets better each day, and she asks Snoopy to come home with her. He reliezes that he has to say goodbye to Charlie Brown, and all of his friends. Snoopy gets back home, and They have a very tearful going away party, everybody gives a speech and a gift.
Snoopy then leaves for Lila's house, and he gets there, and sees that No Dogs Allowed sign, and jumps for joy! He starts running home and He is back with all of his friends and family, because of one thing, Charlie Brown is his true owner, and his best friend. He can't just up and leave him.

The movie is brillant. The Animation itself is nice and detialed, although Schulz keep the same simple designs to the characters. I have enjoyed this movie and I plan to show it to my kids, and hope that they show it to their kids so that they can keep this movie alive and well, because it is a classic in movies. It can stand above the ranks of Citzen Kane, A Clockwork Orange, and all others and hold its own. I am not saying that it is better than those, but I feel it can hold its own with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very touching movie
I love this movie.Like others have mentioned, i can remember the music and the story long after I saw it.My main reason for reviewing it is on the off-chance that somehow the people who own it will make it into a dvd....and even more unlikely, but I wish with all of my heart that they would take the original soundtrack and turn it into a cd.I really loved these songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Peanuts and a tearjerker.
I bought the VHS (because it has not been released on DVD) version of this movie for my 5 y/o daughter (an avid Peanuts fan) and myself. I last saw this movie at least 25 years ago, yet I remembered all the songs/lyrics as if I had just watched it yesterday. My little girl was captivated by the movie and the so very sad "goodbye scene" even made her cry (which in turn almost made me cry).

4-0 out of 5 stars I can't stand it... I just can't stand it
You know, under this façade of sheer machismo, I'm really just a pathetic little wuss-bag of a girly-man. Yep, here I am in my late twenties, and I still get misty watching "Snoopy Come Home"! Oh, I've tried endless viewings of Clint, Sly & Arnie flicks- and any other cinematic fare that's saturated in pure manliness- to exorcise this little skeleton in my closet, all for naught. Snoopy's drawn-out farewell to ol' Chuck is just as weepingly heart-breaking today as it was when my eight-year-old eyes first saw it. If it weren't for the upbeat ending, I'd likely be on heavy antidepressants now!

But that's not the worst of it- some time ago I let a close friend in on my softer side surfacing whenever this harrowing tale comes on the tube. This ended up being one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. Not one to keep the knowledge of a fellow man's secret shame to himself, he made sure my little quirk became well-known among our other less-than-sympathetic hang-out buds. Now I can't even host an old-school Star Trek eppie marathon party without some wiseguy slipping a "Snoopy Come Home" video in between the second season finale & the third-season premiere. With friends like these, who needs grief counselors?

My word of advice to you: if watching "Snoopy Comes Home" (or any other movie for that matter) leaves you feeling a little misty- and no one else knows about it- do yourself a favor and keep it to yourself. You'll be spared quite a bit of pain & anguish if ya do, believe you me!

5-0 out of 5 stars MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
I always enjoyed watching this movie. It is the best cartoon for children to watch.I am in my twenties and still enjoy it.I had to watch it after I saw a scary movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Charlie Brown Camp Comedy
I first saw this movie when I was 8 and have loves it ever since!Charlie Brown goes to camp in hope of becoming a leader.3 boys in one tent win every competition-by cheating!Charlie Brown becomes leader of the whole "Peanuts"gang in the last contest-a long river raft race!Packed with laughs and serious parts too, this movie will hold your attention from the start.I love it because it's good to see Charlie Brown do well for a change. The surprise ending is great, too! If you like "Peanuts"race to buy this video!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gotta give it up for Charlie Brown
This was a fun movie. I used to enjoy watching this when it came on the Disney Channel. So nostaglic. I loved the Peanuts gang and everything to do with them. "Snoopy Come Home" and "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" were my person classics though, I loved those movies to death. These were my films back in my kiddie days. I will always love them and I will give them to my kids when I get older.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am grateful for Charles Schulz! I know Charlie Brown. I AM
Perhaps I need not write a review for this movie. (There are so many reviews of it already.) The fact is every time I finished writing a review for a book I just finished, I was prompted to review this movie (which I bought a copy for myself).

I am grateful for Charles Schulz! And Charlie Brown is no stranger to me. I know Charlie Brown! I AM CHARLIE BROWN!

Yes, if you ever know someone who can never fly a kite, can never kick a football, can never find love, can never succeed in anything, that is Charlie Brown; THAT IS I!

The only thing that makes Charlie Brown "the Charlie Brownest" is that he never stops trying. He is a real warrior. In this movie he again is trying to be a leader of his gangs in a camping contest. Going from point A to point B, in the wilderness of raging rivers and thundering waterfalls, Charlie Brown is the only leader one can ask for, since he never fears failures!

Need I say more, I had to buy a copy for myself!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Peanuts Movie!!
I am the world's biggest Peanuts fan. I have plans so big I couldn't tell them. This is my favorite Peanuts movie. Charlie Brown tries to become a leader, and the annoying cheaters try to win. They even have a cat, named Brutus! In a few scenes Brutus goes after Woodstock(naturally). Lots of laughs and adventure as they go on a wild ride and into a cabin, and going across the lake. And those girls... They kept doing that crazy voting thing. They even voted on if they should take their raft off the land to continue the race! It's hilarious. Here's some dialogue I've chosen

Lucy: What kind of a place is this to be stuck in? We can't even plug our irons in!

Speaker: Campers will be up at o 500.
Franklin: What's "O 500"? Noon time?

Speaker: Race will start at 1800.
Sally: I wasn't even born in 1800!

Marice(in a sack race): Sir, I don't think I was meant to be a potato.

Snoopy is funny especially on the motorcycle, carrying Charlie Brown and him saying the classic line"Why can't I have a normal dog like everyone else?". Though the girls steal the funny lines. The whole gang takes place here in this likeable Peanuts adventure. ...

Schultz. ... Read more
