5-0 out of 5 stars Blue Gender just keeps getting better!
Blue Gender just keeps getting better with "Blue Gender, Volume # 3." Includes the episodes "Sympath", "Oasis", and "Confirm". The episode Sympath is great, Yuji and Marlene come across a new character named Dice (Finally! I thought they were going to be alone forever), a roughneck loner who remains alive due to the fact that he has an armored shrike (a bad one at that, it's alright I guess). Anyways, he helps Yuji and Marlene out throughout the entire DVD.
In the episode Oasis, Yuji gets separated from Marlene and Dice, and is picked up by some nomads and ends up falling in love with a girl named Elena. This episode isn't without its action scenes though, Yuji protects the nomads from a group of bandits. Great episode.
Lastly, in Confirm, Yuji is finally reunited with Marlene and Dice, and is forced with a decision - Go with Marlene to Second Earth, or stay with his new love, Elena. Decisions, decisions.
Overall this DVD is really more of a plot-evolver, but it's still a GREAT DVD which I highly recommend buying. The animation and dubs are better than ever. Anyone who thinks of this series as a poor one is obviously a moron, yes a moron. Buy it while you still can! It's Great! :) - Ryan ... ... Read more

Having been diagnosed with an incurable disease, teenager Yuji Kaido enters suspended animation in 2009 to await the discovery of a therapy. He's awakened 22 years later to find that Earth has been conquered by the Blue: monstrous, insectlike aliens. Yuji is rescued by tough-as-railroad-spikes mecha pilot Marlene Angel, who serves in an elite Sleeper Recovery Team from the satellite Second Earth. Yuji is apparently a valuable asset in the struggle against the Blue, despite his illness. As he does little but stare blankly and whine, and voice actor Laura Bailey delivers Marlene's lines--including an account of the destruction of human civilization--in a robotic monotone, they're not an engaging pair. The action scenes are violent, bloody, and generally well choreographed. Unrated; suitable for ages 17 and up: Graphic violence, brief nudity, sexual situations, grotesque imagery. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but not as horrid as some people think.
Genocyber is something you'll either enjoy, or be completely disgusted by. This OAV is certainly not for the weak of heart.

The story at first bears resemblance to Akira, but goes off onto its own path eventually, although the time transitions could have been done a little better.

The animation isn't perfect, but it's passable, and showcases the, er..."Insides" rather well. o.O

Overall, I'd recommend Genocyber if you're a fan of odd sci-fi movies or ultraviolence.

1-0 out of 5 stars If I could, it would be a 0.
This title had bad animation. It had an even worse plot. The basic storyline(oh, wait, this is the WHOLE storyline)involves two psychic sisters--one is feral, the other crippled-- joining together in this "angel"...who promptly kills as many people as the "bad guys". This doesn't contain just a "touch of ultra-violence", as the box suggests. I think the animators ran out of colors other than red. Severed arms, severed legs, severed heads, and disemboweled people are just a few of the delicacies to be found in this god-awful anime.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool but Very Gorey and Graphic
There are only four episodes ever made so the DVD is short. The story starts out interesting but after the first two episodes it gets kind of off track and splits into a separate story. If you love gore and violence you can't get much better than this one. But the story kind of lacks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great series with bonus DVD goodies
I really enjoyed the first episode of Genocyber. Great action, incredibly violent sequences. Horrifically gory in parts. High quality early 90's (pre-CGI) animation. Character design really strong -- especially the mercenary cyborgs assassins! The disc is filled with lots of goodies, but they are only accessible through your DVD-ROM drive on your PC or Mac. The DVD says PC-only, but they are just folders of JPEG and TIFF images, which any Macintosh can also read. Lots of prototype designs and pencil sketches. The DVD features english and japanese language tracks along with an english subtitle track. Be warned that the english language and english subtitles are dramatically different (especially in Episode 1). I would recommend watching it twice, or watching with both the english audio and english captioning turned on.

I think think Genocyber was written as a one episode movie. But it was so popular, they had to write more episodes. Because so much happens by the end of episode one, where does the series go? They have to push the 'reset button' and start over. Episodes 2 & 3 are quite good with a few neat tie-ins to the first show. But clearly, it has a hard time measuring up to the incredible first show. By the time 4 & 5 roll around, it's almost completely off subject. As it takes place 500 years in the future, Genocyber is relagated to just taking up scenery in episode 4. The entire story suddenly shifts to two new characters. Only by episode 5, does Genocyber once again appear in any sort of meaningful way. That's one of the problems of having a character like Genocyber be so powerful. Entire cities are destroyed by the creature at the bat of an eyelash. I only wish the amazing ideas and fascinating characters presented in episode one were continued on in the series. As with each episode we have to learn a whole new cast of characters, it's difficult to build any sort of bond with them. The disc alone is worth episode one and the DVD bonus material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great and dark bio-tech sci-fi horror serie on DVD at last!
If you like dark sci-fi stories with a bit of horror and splatter effects, with a great and strange plot that's sometimes hard to completely understand the first time you watch it... then Genocyber : The Collection is for you ! On this DVD you'll get all the 5 OAVs for a total of over 2 hours and 30 minutes of great story and animation. Be warned though that if you like easy sci-fi plots than this isn't the right stuff for you. Its plot is dark, sad and weird just like the famous Akira movie was. A great Anime serie worth buying if you like the genre. Get all of it in a single and cheap DVD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars M.D. Geist - Director's Cut and Death Force
Great Movie you will want to watch it again and again.A anima lover must have.watch and judge for yourself.MD GEIST A CYBRONIC HUMAN IS 1 WHO DELIVERS AN ASS KICKING TO MECH'S ROBOTKILLING MACHINES.UNSTOPPABLE,MOST DANGERIOUS,NUFF SAID.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh.
M.D. Geist was one of the first anime I saw, when I was, oh...12, I think. At the time I thought it was "OMG TEH COOLST THINGEVAR!!1111". So, having now re-watched the first, and watched second one, do I still hold that opinion? Nah. Let's make no mistake, these films aren't that good, in certain areas, although I'm not entirely sure whether the horridness of the first one is all Koichi Ohata's fault.

The animation on the sequel is better by far, but relies entirely too much on single scenes that have little movement. But at least they improved Vaiya's character design...*Shudders* However, Ohata's designs on fighting suits and mechs are utterly kick-ass cool, and somewhat insect-like at times.

The dub isn't that good either way on both films, and Geist himself sounds too deep in the second one. The Japanese actor for Geist did a admirable job, however.

The storyline is a little cluttered, but believable. And yes, every character pursues their own goals and greed.

If you like ultraviolence or something a little different, I recommend this. Just be advised that not everything is perfect.

1-0 out of 5 stars The most godawful pile of mookystinks ive ever seen!
Let me be blunt: This movie is horrible. It's so horrible it takes away the meaning of the word 'Movie'. In fact, it's also taking away the meaning 'horrible' and 'this' and even some words that weren't even in the sentence. It's that bad.

As a responsible clerk of a local video store, I have taken it upon myself to view each and every anime title that we have for rent for the fans who frequent the store. M.D. Geist, however, was such an utter waste of time that I began to reconsider my well-intentioned policy.

Simply put, the main character of M.D. Geist (the M.D., by the way, stands for "Most Dangerous" ... how's that for cheesy?) is psychopathic, homicidal, insane, misogynistic, and worst of all, has a penchant for lines that would make Schwarzenegger look like a member of MENSA. (Classic Schwarzenegger at that.) Any characters who are remotely likable are killed off almost instantly (usually rather gruesomely as well). The animation quality isn't great even compared to 1980s standards, while the plot at best is razor-thin, with very little sense of logic (or actual coherent thought, for that matter).

The most remarkable thing about this title, apart from a few mildly interesting mecha (yawn) is the sheer amount of gratuitous violence. Body parts fly everywhere in M.D. Geist's path. (Honestly, I kept hoping that Geist himself would get axed, but alas, it was not to be.) And the ending is simply deplorable.

Simply put, M.D. Geist is bad AND ugly. Unless you watch anime for the express purpose of watching shameless amounts of gore and blood dashed across your screen, stay well away from M.D. Geist. You'll be glad you did.

Widely regarded as one of the worst anime ever made, and rightfully so.

2-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst movies of all time...
.... and that right there is the only reason to ever watch it. I don't consider myself a huge anime fan, I enjoyed Akira and Cowboy Beebop, I gag whenever anyone mentions Dragonball Z. This movie, though, is a monstrosity. It starts out with about 12 minutes of text scrolling on the screen before any actual animation takes place. Even after the excrutiatingly long text bonanza, things rarely move, instead, characters kind of shake between two frames of animation, or the camera simply zooms or swipes over a crudely painted image. All of the blood and gore is crude, it's your usual anime head-exploding stuff, although there is a particularly interesting scene where a guy's eyeball pops out of his head and lands right back into his socket. If you can imagine this happening in four frames of animation, you should consider animating MD Geist III.

The first fight scene is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen. I'll give you a run down (Just imagine 80's porno music in the background):

MD Geist- Okay, you want to fight. What are the rules?
Huge African American Stereotype- Only one rule (looking directly into the camera) TO KILLLL!!!!!

The fight scene that follows is possibly one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I won't ruin it for you, but just as a hint: expect dialogue from a man with his arms cut off and a knife jammed into the side of his head.
The dubbing is some of the worst I've ever heard, it sounds like a bunch of high school students nervously grumbling into a walkie-talkie. Scratch that, make that high school student, because I'm pretty sure the same person does the voice for everyone.
Oh yeah, there is pointless nudity scene, and seeing as how the animation looks like the old GI Joe show, this might satisfy some 12 year old who always dreamed of saturday morning cartoons in the buff.
Well, as for plot, just forget it. As for animation, I've seen better animation from my Grandma slowly handing me Christmas cards. And it's made in 1996!! Inexcusable!!!!!!! As for laughs, I definitely reccomend this movie. Just make sure that you DVD remote is equipped with a "Fast Forward" button for all of the long "dramatic" pauses.

Rent it.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANTI-HERO WHY NOT
