4-0 out of 5 stars The Capitol Roger Corman
Another facinating Corman flick features basically a combination of Jackie Chan and hardcore action violence. It also features my favorite actor of all that had ever starred in these type of Corman movie, Rick Dean ("Carnosaur 2 & 3").

2-0 out of 5 stars good plot bat fights
I liked the ideas this movie was made on. The hero (Don Wilson) is a strong psychic with quick moves. The original idea here is worth a nice smile alone. Unfortunatly due to bad acting and lazy writers the mystery unfolds quickly after the opening credits. They try to have so many mysteries in the movie to keep you intriuged but the puzzles are too easy.

Now before I talk about the fighting which is the meat of these movies I want to say that Don is an excellent fighter with a kickboxing record of 80 and 2, and if I ever met him in a dark ally I'd sing a funeral song for my teethe and ribs.

With that in mind I don't see how the fights can be so bad. They are impractical, slow, poorly acted, and flat out embarrassing. He had a mediocre fight with a bunch of big guys in a bar (these movies always have one fight with big guys in a bar) and the lines are charming somtimes but I have to say that this movie dosn't offer much more than a lot of potential. Don can do anything I can only hope he takes the right script and shows his true skill.

To see him do his thing well check out "virtual fighter" or "ring of fire 1". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Counter Measures
This movie is a great undiscovered movie hit. With the hard hiting excitement you want. This movie has great combination of top gun/ Hunt for Red October. I highly recommend this movie to any action packed film enthusiast.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dang, this movie is baaad!
Ok, I should have rented this movie from the library first before wasting my money on this stink burger...

The sub was too big and there was too much walking space, they ripped off too many scenes from Crimson Tide and Hunt for the Red October which were far better movies then this one. I strongly recomend you buy something else like Crimson Tide or Das Boot if you like submarine movies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just plain Bad
I have seen some pretty cheesy movies with bad acting, but Counter Measures has to be in the top five worst films of all time.

The story line, which has some great potential, is completely destroyed by the poor acting ability of the cast. Dudikoff can't even salute correctly - and he is supposed to be a SEAL??? Alexander Keith, while very attractive, does a very poor job convincing the viewer that she is a military solder. As for her role, I have heards better screams out 1950's era b-movies.

The scenes inside the sub where just as bad. Was that a Russian sub or the Starship Enterprise. I've seen houses with less room than the sub had.

The Special FX were attrocious, I've seen more realistic explosions using green plastic army men and firecrackers.

All in all just a very bad film and a complete waste of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
This is a great movie. A lot better than the frist, Crash Dive. I highly recomend seeing this. I would really like to see Michael Dudikoff in a bigger picture.

4-0 out of 5 stars wow, this actually had characters
okay, okay, so you don't expect a lot from this sort of fare. So be prepared for something a little differant. Dudikoff plays a coward...until the end of course. His co-star, Alexander Keith is excellent! Hard to imagine that they are still making Cynthia Rothrock movies with a woman (yes, a woman named Alexander) as tough AND sexy as Alexander on the scene. She is a much better actress that Ms. Rothrock too. Good action but the submarine interiors look more like a space ship (Anyone whos ever been on a submarine knows that there aren't a whole lot of winding corridors or open spaces) On the whole this one is pretty good but, of course, it is no Das Boot. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully charming movie
Lots of fun for all ages. Micky Dolenz and Mary Woronov played the villians exquistly. Well worth the time and money enjoyable from the begining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleepyhead!!
I thought this was a great movie for any kid to watch. I usually fall asleep watching movies, but this one I just couldn't. I made myself stay awake to watch it. I have to say this is a great movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars they should have made #2 disappear..
This movie was pretty good, kinda childish at times, but what do you expect? Trenton Knight was enjoyable as the young son, Josh. But Invisible Mom #2 was an absolute bomb; it was about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Even tho I'm a fan of Justin Berfield, even he couldn't save it from mediocrity.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tedious, unfunny "comedy" guaranteed to try your patience.
Only the laughs are invisible in this tedious, unfunny comedy. Director Fred OlenRay sets a new low, and for the director of "Bad Girls from Mars," that's saying something! It's very sad to see Dee Wallace Stone, best known from "E.T.," reduced to a film of such nonexistent ambitions. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Monster Movie!
The movie begins with a space ship coming back from a journey into outer space. On this journey they have obtained spores from another planet.John Carradine uses these spores to make ayouth serum.Carradine dies. His assistant takes the serum to an aging movie star who injects it hoping to start landing leading roles again. So far this movie is lightweight. The movie star turns into a giant buglike creature. The most exciting segment takes place when the secretary goes skinny dipping in the pool and is killed by the buglike creature. The plot is bad,the acting is bad,the whole movie is bad.Buy this if you can find it on sale.

1-0 out of 5 stars [junky] spawn
My God, what a [junky] movie! I'm a lover of "B" rated horror movies and usually the campier the better, but if there's such a thing as a "E" of "F" rated movie this is it. The plot is obviously a ripoff of "The Wasp Woman", the special effects are practically non-exsistant, the monster is stupid looking, (I did like the teeth) and I've see better acting in porno movies. The only redeeming feature of this turkey is the physical appearance of the woman actors, the're for the most part pretty darn good looking. I could keep going, tearing this thing to shreds, but let me suffice to say I haven't seen a movie this bad since "Attack of the Mushroom People"

2-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT TOUCH!!!!
I happen to be a fan of Fred Olen Ray's movies, but you must fight all urges to buy this one, folks. First of all, the picture quality wasn't that great. I've seen worse, but it is poor quality and very grainy (which suprises me given the good quality of other Retro Media titles). Next, the acting is atrocious. I can usually deal with bad actors and actresses (as I said earlier, I'm a fan of Fred Olen Ray's movies) if the plot is decent enough or if the story is at least entertaining enough. But this is absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen! There are no, I repeat, no redeeming qualities in this movie. So, why did I give it two stars you ask? The extra materials, that's why. There are some pretty neat things on the rest of the DVD (such as Nite Owl Theater bloopers, outtakes of the movie, and, of course, a new episode of Nite Owl Theater). But believe me, it is not worth the price of the DVD. STAY AWAY!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars [Breasts] and Blood
I have always liked this film and saw it many years ago on cassette, but seeing the widescreen version is even better. This is a cheesy film starring sexy Bobbi Bresee as an actress who takes an aging drug and turns into an insect monster. Goofy as hell but VERY VERY enjoyable. Has some interesting things on the disc such as trailers, behind the scenes shots and another episode of Nite Owl Theater with Fred Olen Ray and Miss Kim. A highly recommended DVD that does not disappoint.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wish I could have seen it
I'd like to be able to write a review of this, but the widescreen DVD version didn't work in my home player or in my PC. After trying two copies with the same result, I gave up on it and picked up something else. There appears to be a problem with the widescreen release, buyer beware. This was very disappointing, as I'm a big fan of Nite Owl Theater and was looking forward to seeing this one. Maybe next time . . . ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not great, but not AWFUL! A "GROANER"
I had the opportunity to see this film BEFORE it was released.
I got so lucky because the female lead in this movie, Sandy Brooke, was my STEP-SISTER at the time, so the whole family was anxious to see it. I still have the PRE-RELEASE version on tape.

I DO wish that the makers of the film had had a little bigger F/X budget. Some of the F/X shots in this movie came from "BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS". Others from the TV series "BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY". I really hate it when film makers do things like that.

I have to agree with "A VIEWER from North Carolina", STAR SLAMMER had the potential for camp, but didn't quite make it. HOWEVER, I do NOT think it's awful. It's a good movie if you want to have a few chuckles. As I said, it's a "GROANER", but that doesn't make it AWFUL! (I say that with love Sis, just in case you read this review)

Some of the fun of this movie comes from knowing a few of the BEHIND-THE-SCENES secrets. For Example: the actress who portrayed the Warden of the "STAR SLAMMER" supplied all her own wardrobe!

1-0 out of 5 stars just plain awful
this is a very boring film. It has potential for camp, but doesn't utilize it. Is this the same Fred Olen Ray who directed the classics "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers" and "Bikini Hoe-Down"? Where is the humor in this flick?

It has the look of sci-fi T&A, but practically no T or A.

The acting, as might be expected, is horrible (althouth the lead is pretty and engaging), but so is the dialogue and plotting. What is John Carradine doing in his cameo? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not to shabby
This movie has an easy plot to follow, and does keep it interesting thru out it all. There are some tasteful sex scenes, and is worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just a waste
If you are looking for something sexually exciting, then this ain't it. I'm looking at it now on HBO & it's pathetic.

1-0 out of 5 stars How Bad Is Bad?
This flick is soooo bad that:
--the sex is boring;
--the acting reminds one of that first-grade play we all had to endure;
--the actors act like they don't care;
--the plot is nonsense;
--even the kinky stuff -- one drawn-out sex scene spliced with girl-on-girl s&m -- rates a yawn.

Advice: Don't waste your money on this dribble. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars One star is too kind for this tripe!
The basic premise behind this drivel is simple. Kid's Mom has died, has new Step-mom, makes friends with gorilla, gorilla gets shot, gorilla gets better, everything works out just fine.
Except that is, for the film itself. Fan's of this genre of film would do better to avoid this and go for the far superior "Born to be Wild".
Even Malcolm in the Middle's Justin Berfield (Reece), who is usually pretty good, can't hold this dreadful film together.
He manages to pull off a couple of nice emotive scenes, but that's about it.
The gorilla is about as convincing as a trash can in a dress, the music is lousy, the direction is tired and dull, and the less said about the script the better. Not even worth catching on TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Innocent Humor What the world needs!
What ever happened to good movies like this? Justin Berfield age 12 is followed home by a 500lb gorilla, So what does any 12 year old do? Mom Can I Keep Her? You will Love this and Remember that time passes too fast not to spend more Quality Time with your Children!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece
No words can describe this film! I laughed, I cried, I farted. OH! That poor boy who has to take care of gorilla. Then it dies! It makes me cry now, because I know that that boy will never be the same again! I only wish it had lived and he had it until he got old and his bones were so weak so when it jumped on him his guts flew out of his stomach.

5-0 out of 5 stars LMAO/AWWW
friend bought this movie cuz of justin. we watched it, it was incredibly sad/cute/lame. whenever we saw justin crying or whatever it was like awwwww but then they showed the gorilla and we laughed cuz it looks soooo fake! AT THE END THE GORILLAS ON A STRETCHER! ITS SO FUNNY! but its so sad justin cries a lot cuz his moms dead and he has to move on...and ya :( but overall, i liked this movie

5-0 out of 5 stars Justin Berfield is da bomb!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Suspenseful
Unknown actors and actresses (to me) ...but I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Some scenes were a little "far fetched" but that's what entertainment is all about ...huh??

5-0 out of 5 stars very suspenseful
this movie i think was excellent. i saw it on the action channel for the very first time and now ordered it on dvd. what a very good suspenseful film.a lot of action and a very good plot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great movie
Enjoyed this movie. Only two glitches-the operative forgot to disengage the airliner skin sensor and any government man being tracked by NTS on a flight would not walk off the plane alone-especially with a head wound.

4-0 out of 5 stars If McClane was a woman
Don't judge a DVD on the cover! Air Rage's main character isn't Matthew Marshall (Ice-T) but the stewardess played by Kim Oja. Unlike most "feminine Die Hards", who are poor actresses spending most of the movie in the buff, Kim keeps her clothes on (except for a tame striptease at gunpoint) and shows us real acting talents, portraying a courageous, yet vulnerable, girl next door who finds herself fighting an elite force of rogue marines. Another good surprise are the characters' personnalities which are not caricatured (the only exception being the unbearable passenger). As for the script, despite many implausibilities, the suspense works well and some twists are really unpredictable. A good B-movie!

1-0 out of 5 stars air rage: you'll be raging too if u rent this stinker
air rage left me wanting to stick my head out the window and yell, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to RENT anymore". Ice-T stars as a good guy for a change in this combination rip off of Executive Decision/ Passenger 57. Fred Olen Ray directs (under one of his many Psuedonyms) incorporating initial test flight footage of the Boeing 747 as the plane hijacked by an ex marine (Colonel Sykes portrayed by Cyril O'Reilly) out for vengence against the judge who sentenced him to life at Leavenworth. Ice-T plays Marshall, who boards the plane via the exact same device used in Executive decision to save the passengers and Marine General who initially sentenced Sykes to jail. (Apparently all the Military transport planes and lear jets were full that day.) Ice and his band of horrifically inept "rescuers" get mowed down with aplomb by the bad guys in a close range firefight with machine guns that lasts a good thirty seconds(only Ice survives). Miraculously, none of the bullets goes through the fuselage, cockpit window or into the pilot. The bad guys in turn get picked off one at a time by a stewardess (one actually bashed to death with a coffee pot). The cast does a good enough job, but ultimately the film is brought down by a less than credible script wraught with holes big enough to fly a 747 through. Ray proves himself once again to be a master of stock footage, but this becomes one of the undoings of the film when footage of F-16s are shown while being referred to by people that should know as F-15s. Look for it soon at 3 AM on HBO. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars tricks of the trade
ACTIVE STEALTH stars Daniel Baldwin, Fred Williamson, and Hannes Jaenicke (sp.?) in a standard rescue-mission action flick. Soldiers fly in a "modified" Stealth fighter to save their comrade, held prisoner by a Central American drug lord. Watching the DVD the first time, the movie held my interest, and I thought it was average fare--entertaining but not memorable.

I watched the DVD again with commentary by director Fred Olen Ray, and it was a blast. Ray is a hoot. His comments give all kinds of insight into how the movie was made. He introduces actors, and explains how shots are usually set up and executed. He explains special effects. Ray tells what it cost to rent the plane, and how the crew created "smoke" blowing past the actors in a few scenes (a worker blowing pipe smoke at them, actually).

Throughout the commentary, Fred is entertaining. If you've ever wondered how a B-movie gets made, ACTIVE STEALTH is for you.

I give the movie 3 stars, and the DVD 5 stars. Split the difference, and the ACTIVE STEALTH DVD gets 4 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is so innaccurate!
This movie was a real loser. It is so innaccurate. "Rangers assulting a target in broad daylight with standard issue M-16's an M9's with no silencers or scopes. Most Rangers would use an M-4 or an MP5. No face paint, no stealth at all. Also, what Army unit flys a news crew style helicopter to pickup Rangers in the middle of South America? It should have been a Blackhwawk or a Huey gunship with AH-64 Apache air support.
The capabibility to shoot of these "Rangers" is terrible too. At little more than 100 feet they empty an entire clip and hit nothing but air.
The worst part of the movie was Army pilots flying an Air Force F-117 TWO SEATER WITH A CARGO BAY? NO NO NO!! It is a 1 man AIR FORCE, stealth bomber. Also Army pilots "carrier qualified" and F-14 qualified? No.
No. This movie was terrible, do not rent or buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible! Don't even rent it!!!
First of all, the movie/plot description on the DVD clamshell is so inaccurate that I wondered if I had received the wrong DVD. Example: The plot description states that a new Army (?) Stealth aircraft" has been stolen, so some special forces rangers are to lead an AH-64 Apache Squadron to bring the Stealth back to U.S. hands. Fine. BUT, there were NO AH-64's in the movie at all. AND, since when does the Army develop fixed-wing aircraft these days? Rangers in dire need of haircuts with no body armour going into battle? USAF/Army pilots that are carrier qualified to fly F-14s?
This movie is so technically inaccurate that it was frustrating. Very rarely do you see any of the actors (good or bad) actually aim there weapons when firing. Horrible acting, horrible technical advising (if there was any), lousy plot...I can go on and on. WARNING!: Don't be fooled by the DVD cover!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars short but sweet
This movie shows that with some team work anything can happen, even if you get killed in the process you did what you could to make a difference in the world. This movie was short but it a good movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking??
The budget for this movie obviously didn't include any technical advisors. This might have made for some enjoyable fare if there weren't so many obvious technical goofs and downright stupid plot points. Examples: An army pilot is carrier qualified to fly the F-14. Battle sequences that any Quake player could execute better. An F-117A with a cargo bay to carry passengers! There are many more, but I think you get the point.

This movie is for someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the real world. I can usually suspend belief if the story is any good, but this one just stinks!

Daniel Baldwin, I hope you don't include this turd on your resume because it's a career killer! ... Read more

Slow and talky; no thrills, no chills. For something better or at least more fun in the genre, go with the original, Freaks, or try Freaked, or Mutations (a.k.a. The Freakmaker).

2-0 out of 5 stars A Freakish Journey
I gave this film a rating of two out of five stars. I think the idea of a circus sideshow, complete with grotesque freaks is a terribly wonderful idea. Although there are fewer and fewer traveling circus' displaying freaks these days, the topic is wide open for horror interpretations. I enjoyed a couple of the characters, but thought that overall this film could have been given a little more life with better writing and directing. This film should have had a grittier atmosphere and more gore. For a superior film about traveling circuses, I would recommend Something Wicked This Way Comes. I gave this film two stars out out five, although ti was somewhat closer too a 1.5 on a five star scale. If you can rent it, as for buying it...thats up to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great thriller...all of the sudden ending!
A well-done horror flick, kind of in the same vain as The Funhouse (1981). The ending was kind of unexpected, I won't give away the plot... I'm still trying to tie it in with the ending of the film. The most attractive person in the film is in a wheelchair...thats a different twist, not expected. Well- done sets and costumes, great sideshow acts. It has the guy from Ghoulies 2 in it...he's always a crowd pleaser. Great flick! ...

Daniel Baldwin, I hope you don't include this turd on your resume because it's a career killer! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An unusually interesting straight-to-video flick.
If you know anything about exploitation film, you should know what to expect if you pick up a Fred Olen Ray or Jim Wynorski film: Lots of nudity, goofball humour, and bad acting. This one's directed by Ray under the pseudonym Daniel Peters, but surprisingly, the film stands out among the sleaze crowd thanks to an unusually satisfying story with a terrific ending.

The story centers around a rich womanizer named Jack (a suitably sleazy Tim Abell) who bullies every woman in his life into sleeping with him, from his secretary Diane (Robyn Harris) to his foreign maid Rosa (Amy Rochelle). He's engaged to voluptuous airhead Kristy (Griffin Drew), who starts to get an idea of what he's up to. Diane and Kristy meet through chance and make an alliance against Jack, resulting in a hilarious final 20 minutes that's almost pro-feminist (!).

All the sex scenes, as befits this genre, get tiring awfully quickly, and lead Griffin Drew is an atrocious actor. Her dialogue delivery sounds like she's reading the script for the first time. But there is a real saving grace in English actress Harris who, although more known for her eye-popping figure than her ability, has a way of chomping scenery that's highly pleasing and rare in this kind of film. Her character is also stronger than usual, rather than the usual sex object of video erotica. And Abell's downright sleaziness works well for the plot.

This is one of those few straight-to-video erotic films that actually entertains outside of its nude scenes. And it somehow manages to soften its misogyny (standard in this genre) with Harris' character. No woman I know ever truly likes this kind of movie, but this one would come close to appealing across the genders. Strange indeed! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Pornos have better production values....
even homemade ones. I knew this was a bad movie, I didn't mind that. But the whole production makes this unwatchable. For instance, the whole opening scene on the lake looks like it was lit with a match. You cannot make out anything because it's so dark. Just because something is shot at night doesn't mean you don't light the scene!

Even if you like bad z horror movies, I say stay clear of this one. Buy something like Zombie Bloodbath or Children of the Living Dead. Those movies are horrible as well, but at least you can see what's going on.

3-0 out of 5 stars For Film Students Only!
Very bad, even for the price. I heard Fred Olen Ray spent $12,000 on this film and I'd like to see his bookkeeping records because this does not even look like a $12,000 film. There is a lot of day-for-night shooting, the edits are choppy and uneven, the FX are subpar by any standard..
I am a big fan of low budget videos and this is not without enjoyment, though more of a learning tool than a so bad its good classic..

1-0 out of 5 stars Doc OF Z Movies
First off this movie sucks I read the review above from amazon and it is complete S#!T there is very little blood and guts and very little nudity.Dont by this movie it was made by a dirt farming, gator restling redneck in some swamp out in the middle of nowhere. and the camera work is so bad you will end up burning this peace of crap before the movie ends.Dont By On Pain Of Death.!!!
Take your hard earned $13.46 and by a pizza its far more enjoyable.

1-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE!!!
This is the cheapest, worst movie ever made. The budget for the film must have been $9.50 ($5.00 of which was the payment to Buster Crabbe). The other $4.50 was for the videotape and payment to the remaining cast.

I have this on videotape--and will replace it on DVD someday. As bad as the movie is, it is SO bad that it is hilarious to watch. Bad scripts, bad acting, bad special effects--it doesn't get any better (or worse?) than this. ... Read more
