Excellent Series - but DVD very poor production quality
I grew up watching this series and today it's a very refreshing break from the garbage and filth we are bombarded with on a daily basis everytime we turn on the TV. Even commercials are rank with crudeness these days. Anyway, if you would love to be reminded that the world hasn't always been so disgusting, vulgar, and violent then you will enjoy this series.

I was very disappointed, however, with the production quality of the DVDs. There are no subtitles for the hearing impaired, no special features at all and, most annoying, there are no chapter breaks between scenes allowing you to skip ahead. Instead you have to "forward" through it just like with your VCR (so what's the point of having it on DVD?). Also, the claim that the films have been "restored" is either a joke or a lie as many scenes are peppered with white specks and other visual debris. Also, there are moments when the screen looks like a video tape with the tracking gone awry. At times it almost looks as though they copied a bad video onto DVD. It seems they rushed through the production of these DVDs with little concern for quality. In spite of this, I do not regret my purchase and have enjoyed watching these with my family, including my three teenagers who have all become fans of the show.

And to Amazon let me say how annoying it is that any moron can write a "review" of something they obviously did not purchase or spend any time watching but rather are only posting a review because they have an adolescent need to rant against a particular genre which they have absolutely no appreciation for. Such reviews are a waste of everyone's time, including the person writing the "review". When only 2 out of over 50 people find a review helpful, I think it would be a service to everyone to pull it.

Best money I've spent on DVD
I have hundreds of DVD's of all types and have enjoyed this series with my family more than anything else, we're not quite through all and we'll be sad when they're done!

"What an assume Christmas present!"
I ordered this DVD set for my wife who is a huge Little House fan. I was confident that this was one of the best Christmas presents I ever gave her. My wife loves it. She had been taping episodes for quite some time from a TV station that didn't come in very well. Nearly everyday after she got home from work, she would watch the episode that she had just taped, even though she's seen all of them many times. Well, now that she has the 1st 3 seasons, she still watches an episode after work, but instead of the fuzzy picture on the VHS tape, she watches an episode on DVD. I must admit I end up watching some of them myself. It's unfortunate that no one makes quality shows like this anymore. A lesson to be learned in every episode. (By the way, the picture quality is fine, definitely not an issue for shows that are more than 20 years old.)

I think I even learned something from the episode we watched after work today.

Little House is the Best Show Ever!
Wow at last I can watch those kids run through that field over and over again with out waiting for re-runs! A place where it's always an innocent sunny day filled with lessons about doll making and dress sewing! Where going to school meant dealing with the pranks of Nellie Olsen instead of being killed by guns! Golly gee! Here is irrefrutable proof that everything will be available on DVD and that the most sickingly sweet, mind numbing shows will forever entertain the feeble minded! No there is a thought..or lack of..put a disc in I ready for the pretty praire again!

I have to say that the title of my review is true. To the Little House on the Prairie fans, you will love these seasons. Finally for once, you can accually see the little house series, without having to go to the nearest video store, or bid higher prices on auctions that you will pay a great deal of money for, when it is right here on amazon. you get free shipping, no tax, and yet the relaxing little house sequels. I also want to mention that you should look into the 4th season, that has not been released yet, and will be avalible February 18, 2004. I had ordered this item last november with the pilot movie as well. I hope you enjoy these shows.

The best show of all time!
I wish there were shows like this still on TV today! We got this DVD for a family Christmas present a couple of years ago and we're starting to collect the whole series on DVD.

The actors are awesome, especially Michael Landon. Charles Ingalls was about the kindest, smartest, and sweetest father you'll find in any TV show or movie, ever. Karen Grassle was pretty good as his wife, Caroline Ingalls. Not all of her performances in the series are that great, but in this, the Pilot Episode, she really shines. Melissa Sue Anderson is perfect in the role of sometimes annoying, but still lovable, oldest daughter Mary. Of course, then there's Melissa Gilbert as Laura. Next to Michael Landon, she exhibited the most talent. Finally, the twins Lindsey and Sidney Greenbush play the adorable baby of the family, Carrie.

This is such a touching story, and true to boot. A family who sticks together through hard times--what could be better? One warning, though: if you see this pilot you'll find youself buying all the other Little House DVDs there are.

NOT included on the Complete Season sets
This is the ONLY single disc release that is not being included on the Complete Season box sets being released by the same company. All of the 2-hour specials, etc. being released individually are also included on the box sets, but this pilot episode is not. So, if you are a Little House completist, buy this disc to add to your box set collection.

The best pilot of all
Little house on the prairie is the greatest show ever.
The pilot was not aired here in France. I know folks who had bought the VHS so I could see it. But I ordered the DVD anyway.
The quality is great, the pictures are wonderful, much more than the VHS. It is so great to hear the original voices! And funny to hear the Osage chef speaking french with such an accent! :-))
Anyway, the DVD is worth the buy, you won't be disappointed and although it is encoded region 1 ONLY, you can perfectly see it with ALL DVD player as it's written behind "zones (1-6)".
I absolutely recommend this article for all the fans and the others. It's the beginning of all, you discover the characters, you love them!

Better Than The Shirley Version
Possibly one of the greatest books of all time-- this is also one of the last good made for T.V. movies disney did. As a huge Shirley Temple fan I will always love Shirley's version but, my opinon this is the best version of Heidi to own and the version I watch most often on family movie night.

The acting is brillantly done by newcomer Noley("Fine Things")and it has the best grandfather Jason Robarbs who delievers the performance of his career. You really catch their love and connection on screen and you see how far he will go for the little girl he loves. Really Heidi is all about faith and love renewalle and in this version you can really see that.This story also sticks more to the orginally book unlike some of the remakes which is nice since the story is perfect the way it is...

My little cousins love this movie and we all want to adopt Jason Robbarbs as our grandfather now! Some of my cousins liked the movie so much they are now reading the book for fun!I'm personally glad I bought this movie to watch with my cousins on family movie night for it's a movie all about family and connecting with the ones you love. Buy "Heidi" and enjoy watching it with your kids over and over again.

The best version of Heidi
My name is Heidi and I have grown up getting Heidi either as a book or a movie for birthday and Christmas presents. (I do own the german version) This is by far my favorite version of Heidi. I grew up with Hayley Mills and The Wonderful World of Disney. Noley Thornton does a wonderful job of depicting Heidi. I wish it would come out on DVD!! You won't be sorry for getting this.

On commercial free television, this movie runs in two parts with a total runtime of over 3 hours. The video version of the movie has about 20 minutes cut out of the original presentation. Some really sweet nuances have been removed.

This is an enjoyable movie in either case, or course, but let's hope that Disney releases an unedited version to DVD soon! I would love to add it to my collection.

Stunning!
This version of Heidi is truly wonderful.The story is so great and all the actors played the roles very well.Shirley Temple was good, but Noley Thornton is fantastic.Unlike the older version of Heidi this has a freshness to it.The other version the Alps don't look nearly as stunning and the slede ride was the fakest thing I have seen in my life.In this re-make you can almost see the hills bursting with song and joy.It is truly magnificent.

Great film for People of all ages!!!!
I rented this from Top Hat Video the other day and I watchedit last night when the thunderstorm was interupting the sound this has gotta be one of the best disney films ever Noley Thornton is a sweet girl in this films she's great for the part of Heidi Sure Shirley Temple was good for the part of Heidi in her version of the tale but Young Noley is great too her sweetness in this film makes me feel so good if you thought Shirley was great for Heidi wait till you see this disney version of the tale it's a very sweet story I recommend you get this Noley Thornton is great for Heidi!!!!!! ... So what if it is already in the complete set?
Granted you can get these in the complete set. But what if you don't want to get the complete set and just want this or any other single show on a dvd? Don't see the need to spend $80 just to get shows I don't want to see in order to see the one I do want to see.

GREAT SHOW!! BUT SAVE $$ WAIT FOR RELEASE OF COMPLETE SEASON
Hurray for NBC. They are finally putting all the episodes on DVD. A well put investment if you are a fan of the show. I have always wanted too see one episode and have to wait months untill the aired it again. Dont waste money on something you can get foreven better when th 8th season comes out.
Meanwhile checkout Season 1-3 and at the end of Jan Season 4 Where Mary goes blind and introduces Character Adam Kendall. Highly reccomend buying Seasons instead of individual episodes.

In a very unclear and probably intentionally confusing marketing move, both of these episodes are or will be available on the Complete Season box sets being released by the same company. This disc includes the Christmas episodes from Seasons 1 and 8. Season 1 is already available on DVD in a complete set, including this episode. Season 8 will be available in the near future. I purchased three of these "specials" before realizing that they were all 2-part episodes to be found on the complete season sets. While I don't have a problem with these 2-part shows being released separately, I don't understand the need for it and I really, really wish that it would be made clear somewhere on the packaging. Considering that these single disc releases have no special features, this is the worst example of DVD "double dipping" I've seen in a long time!!

wonderful
This is, as always, a great addition to the "Little House" series and consistently delivers that same inspiring message of family, faith, and love. The basic storyline follows Charles Ingalls' struggle to cope with his mother's death and, even more so, the emotional decline in his father. Charles finally manages to bring him home to the family, hoping it will help. Indeed, spending time with everyone--especially little Laura--works wonders in rebuilding the man's spirit until Laura gets into an accident with her horse and blames her grandfather for it. Feeling guilty and disgusted with himself, Grandpa takes off without telling anyone, but in the end it is Laura who accepts her own mistake and takes up the struggle to bring him back.

Some fans may be disappointed with the way the episode ends, but it is still a wonderful story that makes you feel good and is worth the money. ... Read more

SEARCHING FOR JESUS IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES
this is a film that should be a modern day classic. i can not tell this story to friends without crying as this movie did touch me that much so long ago. the theme is timeless and a gospel truth. i wholeheartedly recommend this film and can't wait to get it to see it again its been way too long since i have seen it. i feel this would be an excellent film for the whole family as it brings forth the true meaning of charity and sacrifice and all done from a heart that is searching for GOD. young and old will enjoy and be challenged by this film. it is just a beautiful story. A Masterpiece
This video shows what man can do to talk about the Bible without hurting the Bible's teachings. Martin Sheen is unbelievably outstanding as a physician that seeks Christ, but realizes after years of searching for him, never lost him, but renewed his faith and his obedient service to Him.

My favorite movie
This movie is a wonderful example of true Christianity. Serving God and seeing Him in the eyes of those in need is living the message of Christ's loving presence. The Fourth Wise Man is a classic for the entire family. I am now giving it as a gift to others!

wonderful....great memories of a terrific show
Hands down, "I'll Be Waving as You Drive Away" is a classic in the "Little House on the Prairie" series and is something you'll definitely want to see if you're a fan of the show. Indeed, it is a critical turning point, both on the show and in the true-to-life books, and it launches some drastic changes in the entire Ingalls family. When fifteen-year-old Mary is stricken with blindness, it is her initial denial and her family's fear and guilt that makes for a very emotional first few months. Mary's parents send her to a top-notch school for the blind, where she refuses to learn at first but is pulled in the right direction by her patient teacher Adam Kendall. In time, they form a loving bond that will last forever, and Mary's character matures a hundred times over through her experience.

This is a beautiful episode, and it is easy to see why actress Melissa Sue Anderson was nominated for an Emmy for her performance here as Mary. This entire show is filled with many memorable, touching, and sometimes shattering moments that test a family's strength and inspire you. Anyone who takes the time to appreciate this wonderful show will definitely see that.

Wonderful episode, superb TV series...highly recommended.

BEST episode of the 4th season!!!!!!!
This is televison at its BEST in the 1970's and LHOTP at its BEST!!!!! the acting is superb and this is the season finale for season 4, this is also the most pivotal point in the LHOTP storylines. the episode is all about Mary going blind and how the Ingalls deal with Mary's blindness. 5 stars out of 5

Takes you back...
This is one of my absolute favorite episodes of Little House on the Prairie. This is where the character of Adam is introduced. Finally the girls are starting to grow up. Mary is stricken blind and after much denial and fear finally overcomes the shock of it all, and finds her way back. Adam helps her through her struggle with tough love, and Mary is able to be the teacher that she always wanted to be. ... Read more

"Home is the nicest word there is."
I grew up watching the reruns of Little House on the Prairie every day when I got home from kindergarten. My mom taped them, so my family owns 170 of the 200 episodes, from Episode 1, "Harvest of Friends," to the final episode, "Hello and Goodbye." Somehow, however, we missed taping "Premiere," so when I bought this DVD, I had never seen it. Well, I was a bit disappointed that in two hours the Ingalls family never reaches Walnut Grove (I was looking forward to seeing introductions of our favorite characters!), but I'm still very glad to own this gem. I know from experience that VHS tapes degrade with time and many viewings, but DVD will last forever. The pilot introduces Mr. Edwards (with a much thinner beard!) as well as the Ingalls family and includes some memorable moments between Pa and Laura. Probably the best scene of all is the classic "Errand for Santa," featuring a snow-caked Victor French who braves a blizzard to get his Christmas gifts to their recipients on time. Overall, a beautiful beginning to an endearing show.

Goodtimes DVD has done a nice job of transfering these 70's TV classsics. They look great. Nice color and sound. There is some occasional flickering but a very enjoyable view overall. It's nice to be able to enjoy them whenever the mood hits and without all the commercials!.If you really love these stories, you may want to consider buying the 4 pack. It includes this one,a double length feature "The Lord Is My Sheperd"(Little Laura runs away to be closer to God),"The Collection"(guest starring Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash), and "Laura Ingalls Wilder"(Laura and Almanzo finally tie the knot), another double length feature.

The Beginning of "Little House"
The Pilot film of "Little House on the Prairie" was what made Little House as it is today. It was first aired in 1974 on NBC-TV. Millions of fans gathered around the TV to watch it and now years later it is still a hit. Watch this great movie and enjoy it on DVD with your family for years to come! I have seen it several times and each time I see it I see somthing new that I have forgotten or that I have'nt seen before.

Goodtimes Video Tape Version!
I'm reviewing the video tape put out by Goodtimes Home Video, it contains the pilot movie that started the television show. Little House on The Prairie was one of my favorite shows as a child. I was Nine years old when this TV movie aired for he first time and I liked it and grew up watching the show. This Goodtimes tape is okay but kind of grainy. Complete seasons of Little House on the Prairie have been put on DVD, I think there is about 4 seasons that are available right now and I'm hoping to someday buy complete seasons on DVD! This is a terrific show!

Classic Tv Show
In this Dvd are the pilot episode of Little House of the Praire not a double lenght movie as the package says.

The transfer quality is good as well the sound.

The only thing is the absence of any subtitles or captions necesary for international customers like me.

I want to see also a good show featuring M Landon and Victor French Highway to Heaven released soon on Dvd.

Walnut Grove Meets Johnny Cash....
This review refers to the Goodtimes DVD edition of "Little House On The Prairie - 'The Collection'"......

When I first saw this DVD, as I was browsing through the Little House Series here, for a brief moment I thought this was a collection of several episodes of the series. It is not. "The Collection" is the title of this wonderful episode that adds a little pizzaz with guest stars Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.

Johnny and June play Caleb and Mattie Hodgekiss, a struggling couple, who are so down on their luck, that Kaleb decides to take advantage of poor ailing Reverend Alden. Alden on a mission to help the town of Graves Corners after a devastating fire, falls ill and is rescued by Caleb and cared for by Mattie. Caleb takes the Reverend's clothes and poses as Alden's helper, travels to Walnut Grove, where he convinces all the good people there that he is collecting donations, all the while planning to keep it for himself.What Caleb doesn't foresee is the friendship he forms with all the generous and loving people there.Will Mattie be able to stop him? Will Mary speak up when she sees through him? Will Caleb see the error of his ways? Well It is after all "Little House on the Prairie"!

I enjoyed this episode very much. As many of the Little House episodes do, it had a message, was heartwarming, it made me smile and with this one there's a bonus.....Johnny Sings!

Goodtimes Video has brought several of these episodes to DVD and VHS and I hope there will be more. This DVD has a nice clear picture with good color and sound. Very good for a nearly 30 year old TV program! "The Collection" runs about 50 minutes, and for the price if you love these stories and know you will purchase more, you may want to consider a 2 pack or even the 4 pack. The 4 pack available now includes this one plus these three touching double features..."The Premier Movie"(The pilot..The Ingalls travel to Kansas), "The Lord is My Shepherd"(little Laura runs away to be closer to God) and "Laura Ingalls Wilder"(Laura and Almanzo marry).

This series stands the test of time. They will be a treat for generations to come for the whole family!

"Well, you sure got religion awful sudden."
Unfortunately, many classic episodes that might have been restored to DVD were abandoned in favor of this single episode featuring stars Johnny and June Carter Cash. "The Collection" clearly made it to DVD on star power alone, since the story isn't a vital one to the _Little House_ bigger picture. Reverend Alden becomes ill after encountering a settlement ravaged by prairie fire and is found by Caleb Hodgekiss (Cash) and his wife. Alden explains that he is from Walnut Grove and is on his way there to collect donations for the folks at the settlement, Graves Corner, who have lost everything they have. Considering himself and his wife more needy than anyone in Graves Corner, Hodgekiss goes to Walnut Grove on an "errand of mercy" to collect the items himself, fully intending to flee with his wife and the collection before anyone suspects him. I was surprised to find that Cash actually did a halfway decent job of showing his character's evolution from determined con man to uncertain, softening guy-in-need. The ending is predictable as one would expect from this show, but not altogether lame. Overall, not one I would have personally chosen to promote to DVD immortality, but definitely a watchable hour of _Little House on the Prairie._

Childhood Memories
This DVD brings back such wonderful memories for me. I used to watch Little House on the Prarie all the time when I was young, except the DVD is a much clearer version! I am so glad I am able to see this show again and relive the happiness it brought to me so many years ago. ... Read more

GREAT SHOW But BETTER DEAL with Complete Seasons- SAVE MONEY
Instead of buying just one episode,why not buy the entire season. I 'am thrilled that NBS has finally released LHOTP complete seasons not just single episodes. Don't waste your money - you get free shipping if you buy the seasons. If you love the show its well worth the money to have every episode available. Seasons One to 3 and soon to be 4 are on sale. Hopefully more to come.

Laura's Lesson.....

Michael Landon always knew how to touch our hearts and inspire us with these wonderful tales of the Little House series. This one is definitive of the spirit of the stories and one that focuses on the importance of family and the love shared within.

In this vintage episode from 1974, the Ingalls learn they are expecting a new arrival. Pa's need for a son becomes obvious to everyone and when his hopes are fulfilled, he can hardly contain his joy.He devotes all his attention to the new baby boy,leaving Laura feeling jealous and neglected. The joy in the household soon turns to sadness as the baby falls ill and there is no hope for him. Laura can not even bring herself to pray for her brother's recovery, and when tradgedy strikes, she blames herself and runs away to be closer to God in hopes of a miracle. She is cared for by Johnathan, a stranger whose wisdom helps her see the light.

Melissa Gilbert(Laura) and Michael Landon(Pa), will tug at your heartstrings, as father and daughter realize how much they love each other. And Landon always seems to get just the right guest stars for the parts.The great Ernest Borgnine plays Johnathan, the reclusive mountain man with a heart of gold. It was written and directed by Landon and as always the music of David Rose adds greatly to the story.

Goodtimes does a good job in transfering these old television episodes to DVD. There are a couple of scenes that look a bit scratchy, but overall the view is as nice to watch as the story.The picture is clear and the colors are bright. The sound is in Dolby Digital2.0(Mono), and is very good. This double length episode(without all the commercials) may also be found in a four pack here, which includes, "The Priemere Movie","Laura Ingalls Wilder", also both double length, as well as "The Collection" a touching episode guest starring Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.

Share these touching and inspiring stories with a new generation.There are not to many programs around any more that the family can enjoy together.These stand the test of time.

If you see no other episode in the "Little House" series, see this one! As an avid Little House on the Prairie fan, this was one of the first shows I saw, and it has gone down as one of my very favorites for many reasons, a few including the superb acting, the strong morals, the love portrayed, and the power of forgiveness. The plot is simple enough while at the same time possessing emotional depth and complexity that makes it all the more beautiful. Little Laura Ingalls faces a very real dilemma when her mother has a baby who, in response to her father's obvious wishes, is a boy. Knowing how much her Pa wanted a son, Laura feels somewhat of a push to the back. She is used to being her Pa's special "half pint," and now that she is getting much less attention, she experiences jealousy that is so thick, she refuses to pray for her baby brother when he becomes very sick. The infant dies, leaving Laura swamped with overwhelming guilt that takes over her life until she runs to the mountains in search of an answer. With the sincere belief that her brother is dead because of her, she asks God to take her instead of the baby and sets her mind insistently on making it so. Something extremely hopeful and amazing brings a strange yet loving man into her midst. As he takes care of her on her journey, he gradually comes to help her face her tragedy and follow through with what she truly needs to do. It is an overall beautiful film that should not be missed. You will truly feel for Laura as she is brought to an emotional challenge in her young life, and Melissa Gilbert does a great job at bringing this historical heroine to life. She truly was an amazing child actor. Michael Landon delivers what I believe to be his most incredible, realistic, and emotionally charged performances as Laura's extremely loving Pa who learns just as much as she does from the whole experience in this story. Landon was an actor that I hope people remember for the rest of time, because as far as his acting and the qualities of his shows go, there's nothing that more inspiring or worthy of being modeled.
"Little House on the Prairie" is an excellent pick if you want something sweet, innocent, and comforting to watch. Just as it is an amazing show for adults to love for years to come, so is it for children. If you are a parent, I highly recommend that you introduce this series to your children because it was because of my mother that I discovered the magic and the wonder of these shows. You can't go wrong with them; no matter how much time passes, they will never get old because their quality and the uplifting messages of every single episode will always serve as an example and a comfort to society. The Ingalls family represents what family love should be all over the world, and although the entire series is praisworthy family material, "The Lord is My Shepherd" is a standout and truly a milestone in the show's overall success.

In this classic two-hour episode, the Ingalls family eagerly awaits the arrival of a new addition! All is bliss (despite Harriet Oleson's ability to turn even a new baby into an opportunity to insult Caroline) until Dr. Baker notices that Charles Ingalls Junior, the long-awaited son, is not gaining weight. Ma asks the girls to say a special prayer for their brother, but a jealous Laura refuses. The baby's condition worsens and he eventually dies, leaving Laura with overwhelming feelings of guilt for her "mean thoughts." Convinced that she can make it right by giving her life to God in exchange for the infant's, Laura runs away to the mountains. As Charles and Isaiah Edwards search frantically for Laura, a mysterious old man named Jonathan (Ernest Borgnine) cares for her. A Little House Wedding
I always cry at weddings..and this one gets me every time!
In a double length feature, see the touching story of how Laura becomes Mrs. Alamanzo Wilder in "Laura Ingalls Wilder". Laura(Melissa Gilbert) and Almanzo(Dean Butler) are having trouble making ends meet, and Almanzo doesn't want to marry until he can provide for his bride to be. Meanwhile Almanzo's sister Eliza Jane(Lucy Lee Flippen)is also having romantic problems of
her own and makes a supreme sacrifice to see her brother and Laura happily married. Meanwhile...on the other side of town... Nellie and Percival just found out they are expecting!..Harriet is to be grandmother!!!

This episode guest stars a young James Cromwell and this one will really tug at your heartstrings!It was written and directed by Michael Landon and as always the music of David Rose is beautiful.

Goodtimes Video makes these classic TV episodes a pleasure to watch on DVD. They look and sound great. This episode is a really special one and runs the entire hour and half and without all the commercials. If you really love the Little House on the Prairie Series, I would suggest buying this one in the four pack that Goodtimes has out. It also includes "The Premier Movie", "The Lord Is My Shepherd"(both of these are also feature length) and "The Collection" guest starring Johnny and June Carter Cash.
I agree with the aother reviewer who said that it would be nice to have the prequel to this one as well(so we can watch the wonderful story of Laura and Almanzo getting engaged).How bout it Goodtimes?

"In six months, I'll be Laura Ingalls Wilder."
Of course, this is the timeless episode in which Laura and Almanzo are finally married. In addition to the final wedding scene, we also get some conflict between the would-be couple as Almanzo loses his first crop but stubbornly refuses to let Laura get a teaching job. (Watching the two insist that "I didn't do anything wrong" is a lot of fun.) Plus we have a snippet of subplot involving the news that Percival and Nellie are going to have their first baby (Harriet's misinterpretation of Nellie's having "six months at the most" is absolutely classic!). However, the whole show is quietly but earnestly stolen by Lucy Lee Flippin's portrayal of Eliza Jane Wilder, as she falls in love-for the first time-with a man who feels nothing in return. Probably no other non-regular ever turned in a performance quite so touching, or so convincing. Overall, owning "Laura Ingalls Wilder" is simply a must for any fan of the show. Tenderness was never in short supply on Little House on the Prairie, but this double feature got an extra sprinkling. In "A Christmas They Never Forgot," the entire extended Ingalls family (including Mary and Laura's husbands, this being a later-season show) gathers round the fire to swap tear-stained holiday memories. First up is gentle, soft-spoken Ma, who waxes sentimental when Esther Sue inquires about the "most unusual" necklace she's wearing--turns out it's a relic from Christmas past, a peace offering from a new step-pa whom Caroline, as a broken-hearted little girl, rejected outright during his first Christmas with his new family. Later, Laura remembers Mr. Edwards's snow-soaked adventure as a surrogate Santa to the girls--something that ingratiated him to Ma, who up to then eyed her daughter's wild-bearded spitting coach suspiciously. Then, Esther Sue meets up with her own pa during a sad stroll down a memory lane lined with racial prejudice. The same hackles-raising theme of prejudice is piped into the next episode, "The Craftsman." Here, Albert accepts an apprenticeship with old man Isaac, coffin supplier to the mercantile and the town's sole Jew. Despite the old man's peaceful, kindly nature, Albert is tagged a "Jew lover" and bullied by shortsighted farmers' sons. Being a boy of superior stock, he's nonetheless loyal to the old man, something he's grateful for when it comes time to visit the sage carpenter's own coffin. Throughout this episode, dear old Isaac dispenses the sort of wisdom--"Never be ashamed of work you've done, only be ashamed of what you haven't done"--that endeared this series to parents during its original run. An Episode I'll Never Forget
A must-have for any real Christmas video collection. Each story told by the cast members of a long-ago Christmas is heartwarming and moving. A nice touch is the beautiful carols sung acapella by a choir as background music. For me, it belongs on that list of movies watched every year at Christmas...along with 'It's A Wonderful life', 'A Christmas Story', etc. Michael Landon will always be remembered in my home, as this movie will be played every year.

One of a Kind Family Entertainment
My favorite show of all time is "Little House on the Prairie." It was always on television until just recently. I was so excited to find that Amazon.com had the DVD's to purchase. I want my children to grow up with the down home, wholesome, family show of Little House. I was so upset that it is no longer on my cable system's networks but now I know that I can find the love of the Ingalls' family right here on Amazon.com.

Two Heartwarming Stories to Savor
This review refers to the Goodtimes Double Feature DVD.. "Little House on the Prairie..A Christmas They Never Forgot/The Craftsman".....

Two wonderful stories from the Little House series to warm your heart and make you smile are to found on Goodtime's great transfer of the beloved TV series.

In "A Christmas They Never Forgot", Laura and Mary are now grown and married, and are visiting Ma and Pa Ingalls along with Hester Sue. The whole family gets snowed in the tiny house and while the youngsters worry about Santa's arrival, the grown ups, each take turns telling heartwarming tales of special Christmas' of their youth. It's a wonderful episode to watch at holiday time or anytime and will have you running the usual range of emotions we are always treated to in these wonderful stories.

"The Craftsman" is the poignant and touching tale of Mr. Singerman. An old, lonely Jewish expert woodcarver, who takes Albert under his wing, to teach him the craft. Albert is then subject to harrassment and harshness from the other kids as being a "Jew Lover". But he develops a strong bond and deep admiration of the older gentleman. Laura also learns the value of tolerance. Although a dramtic episode, there are some priceless humorous moments, and Mr. Singerman's little gems of wisdom are fun as well.

Some of the guest stars you'll find in these two episodes are Newell Alexander, Tom Lester, Alvin Kupperman, Frank De Kova, Don "Red" Barry and of course Victor French as "Mr. Edwards". The music by David Rose is as always, stirring and perfect in setting the tone.

A nice sharp picture and good colors, with very good sound that is always distinguishable, makes for a great view of these classic TV programs. Each episode runs about 45 minutes, and they are both on the same side of the disc, so you can just enjoy for about an hour and half.

It would be nice if Goodtimes would issue more of these episodes and put more 4 pks together( there is one avaiable now) for those of that that just can't get enough of these entertaining and enlightening stories that deliver a great message of life and family values along the way.

Recommended for the whole family to enjoy together....have fun...Laurie

Sentimental Favorites

Fans of Little House will love these two sentimental favorite episodes that Goodtimes has put together in one great package.They are both wonderful examples of why this wholesome and inspiring series touched us 30 years ago and still touch us today.

"The Premiiere Movie" was the made for TV pilot, that introduced us to the Ingalls family and their quest to make a better life for themselves.The harrowing adventures, the love and joy, the tears and laughter as they journey from the 'Big Woods' of Wisconsin searching for a place to call home, will have you all choked up one minute and grinning ear to ear the next.You'll also meet Jack the dog, and Mr. Edwards for the first time and even they will have you laughing and crying. This one is feature length and runs 1hour 38 min(and you wont have to sit through any commercials).

The next is the very emotional "Remember Me". Oscar winner Patricia Neal("Hud") guest stars in this double length episode as a widow who learns she is terminally ill. She has three young children and turns to Charles to help her find a home for them.Charles promises to keep the children together, but fulfilling the promise proves difficult.The answer is out there..can Charles find it? This is one of the most touching episodes of all, so have the Kleenex handy for this one.It runs about an hour and a half.

The cast includes Michael Landon(Pa),Karen Grassle(Ma),Melissa Gilbert(Laura), Melissa Sue Anderson(Mary),Bonnie Bartlett(the widow Snyder) and the wonderful Victor French as Mr. Edwards.The series is based on the "Little House" books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and are a great way to spend family time together. Although these vintage episodes are nearly 30 years old, they stand the test of time and will always remain a great part of TV history.

The DVD transfers of this classic series by Goodtimes is very good. Some occasional flickering, but overall a nice clear view with good color and sound.These two episodes are also sold individually or you can purchase "The Premiere Movie" in a four pack which also includes "The Lord is My Shepherd",a double length episode guest starring Ernest Borgnine,"The Collection", guest starring Johnny and June Cash, and "Laura Ingalls Wilder", also a double length. If you are a really big fan or know someone who is, you can even purchase entire seasons(1,2 and 3) just released to DVD(not Goodtimes, but also very nice transfers). Season 1 does not include the pilot episode, so you would still have to purchase that one separately.

They don't make 'em like they used to
Although I'm a 25 year old Israeli woman, born after the Vietnam war was over, and halfway around the world, this series touched me in a way most dramas didn't. Perhaps it was Dana Delaney's excellent dramatic acting, or the music, or any of the wonderful features of the talented crew that made this beautiful series possible, but I get the feeling that although I like new drama series like ER or The West Wing, I feel that John Wells has learned well, but not enough. China Beach had a certain something that other drama series did not. I'm no expert, so I can't put my finger on it, but whatever it was, I haven't seen it since, and I suspect I'll never see it again.

DANA DELANEY IS CHINA BEACH ! ! ! ! ! !
This closest thing to a perfect show is my favorite series of all time. The actors were always excellent (w/the exception of Robert Picardo and Megan Gallagher....I don't know, but I just didn't like them very much). The show could not have been made w/out Dana Delaney. If it had it wouldn't be half as good. She is Colleen McMurphy...McMurphy is China Beach...Dana Delaney is the key. Her performance both comic and drmatic are so true to life. Her emotions of the war are so real it scares you into thinking that this is too real. She has such a wonderful gift. I hope we see more of her real soon.

WHY IS THIS SERIES NOT ON DVD?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I find this a serieous omission. If anyone hears about it coming to DVD, please let me know by email! Thanks!

Have tried for years to find this on video
I, too, would buy every episode of this terrific series. I agree Dana Delaney was great, but, in my view, it was really an ensemble show. Marg Helgenberger as KC and Brian Wimmer as Boonie and Michael Boatman and Robert Picardo and Troy Evans and Concetta Tomei and absolutely everyone else were just terrific. Also, the production values were excellent. I remember sitting there watching and noticing how fabulous the lighting and cinematography were. I don't think any other television show has touched me as much as this one. Please, please bring this out on DVD!

Great Writing, Great Acting...Give Us This Series On DVD!!!
I was a slow starter on this series when it originally aired. ABC basically killed any chances of the series picking up steam in the ratings by allowing "China Beach" to be shifted from one time slot to another, making it harder to keep up with. What a shame, the story lines and rich characters were worthy of much better treatment than they received.

It wasn't until a couple of years after ABC pulled the plug that A&E aired the entire series several times. I was able to finally see all the episodes I missed and I was HOOKED!! I truly believe that "China Beach" represents some of the best writing and acting I have ever seen in a television program--a very worthy effort that was never truly appreciated by the network PTB.

This series received tons of critical acclaim and was nominated for and received several Emmys. To my knowledge, it was never released in a VHS format--but it begs to be considered for release on dvd. PLEASE give the fans of "China Beach" the chance to see this series in format worthy of the talent that it represents.

Excellent drama about Vietnam nurses, doctors, soldiers
This is the popular and much acclaimed "China Beach" TV series. Dana Delany has the role of her life playing Colleen McMurphy, a dedicated triage nurse in Vietnam. This is not a war action movie, but rather a drama about the lives of Vietnam soldiers and the nurses, Red Cross "Donut Dollies", and USO entertainers who are there for them. Dana Delaney is stunning in the role of McMurphy -- this alone would make this a classic. In addition, the deep respect and understanding shown for the Vietnam GI's sets this apart from most of the other Vietnam movies. This is a movie that people who weren't in Vietnam should watch to get a better appreciation for the men and women who served there. Now that the series that dusted off late-19th-century American prairie life for 1970s viewers has itself been dusted off, keep your kerchief handy. The double feature of "Christmas at Plum Creek" and "The Creeper of Walnut Grove" succeeds, as executive producer Michael Landon and the warm, fuzzy behind-the-scenes folks so obviously intended, at stirring the sap within. "Plum Creek" carries the nostalgic back to the early seasons, when Laura was still a genuine half-pint, braids bobbing on either side of her head. Christmas is coming, and clan Ingalls is intent on surprising one another, their meager means notwithstanding. Secrets and bargain-driving abound, but in the main story line Ma wants a stove and Laura sells her most prized possession, pony Bunny, to nasty Nellie Olsen to buy it for her. When the magic morning arrives, her sacrifice is made bittersweet by Pa's gift of a saddle. "The Creeper" fast-forwards a few years and includes some familiar townspeople, bespectacled teacher Miss Beetle and Dr. Baker among them. Timothy, the town's top student and brightest prospect for a college scholarship to study medicine, turns amateur thief when his pa is laid up and no longer able to tend to the farm. He makes off with a pie, some jam and bread from the mercantile, and a hen in hopes of helping along his father's recovery, but junior sleuths Laura and Andy Garvey are hot on his trail. When the jig is up and Timothy confesses to Pa, the town's good folks come together to pitch in for the foundering family. That way, Timothy can accept the scholarship he's made Walnut Grove proud by winning. One From The Heart....One For Fun.....
This review refers to the Double Feature DVD(Goodtimes Video) of "Little House on the Prairie" Epsiodes "Christmas at Plum Creek" and "The Creeper of Walnut Grove"...

Goodtimes Video has made another great transfer of two vintage episodes from the Little House series. Although two very different stories, both will leave you smiling.

First up is a holiday classic episode. In "Christmas At Plum Creek",you'll feel the love as you may be reminded of "The Gift of the Magi". It is the first Christmas in Walnut Grove for the Ingalls family. Ma and Pa, Mary and Laura busy themselves trying to get just the right presents for each other. Their days are filled with joyous secrets, loving sacrifices, smiles and tears.Will Laura give up her beloved pony "Bunny" so Ma could have a stove? Even little Carrie will make your heart swell as she remembers the true meaning of the holiday.
This one includes the Olsen family....Harriet at her most Scroogelike self, Nels is affable as always, and mean ole Nellie!
And it's always a delight to see Mrs. Whipple make an appearance.

"The Creeper of Walnut Grove" is just plain fun. The youngins will love this one! Laura and Andy Garvey(a very young Patrick Laborteaux)form their own detective agency, when a serial thief is stealing food from the mouths of the good people of Walnut Grove. They set traps, which naturally backfire and leave poor Pa with green hair, Nellie and Wille covered in flour and Harriet,... well, lets just say you have to see this one for yourself! But Michael Landon is always sure to give us some poignant moments as well,... a young boy, studying to become the town's future Doctor cares for his proud father after a heart attack(try not to think about the fact that they fed him ham, eggs, and apple pie to restore his health..who knew about cholesteral back then anyway!)It's a fun episode, that includes the Garveys,Miss Beadle, and Reverend Alden who also provides us with a good chuckle in this one.

Each episode runs about 45 minutes, so at an hour and a half(no need to flip the disc, they are both on the same side) this is a pretty good deal. The picture is nice and clear, with good color(a bit dated), and the sound is pretty decent in Dolby Digital Mono. These episodes are from 1974 and 1977, and no matter how often I watch them, they still make me laugh and cry!

If you loved this series, you'll be happy to have this on DVD,to enjoy whenever the mood strikes.
