But that's the theme of the movie. Jim Carry plays the part of Fletcher Reede, a young, promising (and very unscrupulous) lawyer who always manages to win his cases. But there is a darker side to his life. His wife has divorced him because of several affairs, and his son (who he dearly loves) has been neglected for his professional career. Clearly, Mr. Reede is a man who never settled down to the more serious business of life and responsibility. However, Reede's day of come-upance has arrived. Forgotten about one too many times, his son makes a birthday wish that his dad would have to tell the truth for 24 hours. An outside wind blows the cake candles out and the stage is set. Mr. Reede intends to go about his daily, lie-ridden life (his natural style) but is flabergasted to suddenly find that whatever he tries to say, the truth always comes out - and with hilarious results ("I can't believe I said that"). Jim Carrey has the gift of gab, and God, does it come out in this film. Either he is very adept at learning complex lines or he is a natural comedian to whom words flow like water. There are sight-gags in the film, but these are really secondary to the dialog -- which is priceless. Unlike "The Mask", this film has a more serious side in the pathos of a neglected family and a wrecked personal life. Still, the movie is light-hearted and fun to watch. Jim Carrey does it once again. ~P~
What follows is one of Jim Carrey's best films ever. If you like Jim Carrey and haven't seen this movie yet, you will love it. The thing he does best in this movie in my opinion is his physical comedy, especially the scene where he beats himself up. Highly recommended for Jim Carrey fans who have not yet seen this one or for anyone who likes slapstick comedy movies that have a point in the end.
So when Max makes a wish that for 24 hrs that his dad cannot tell a lie, he never expected it to actually come true. Unfortunatly in the affected 24 hours, Fletcher has a HUGE divorce case to settle and his fabricated story cannot be told. At the same time, Max's mother Audrey has been offered a marriage proposal from her boyfriend and plans to take Max to Boston with them. Now Fletcher must deal with not being able to lie and try to change Audrey's mind before he loses Max forever. One of Jim Carrey's best movies, it made me lol the whole time.

I had to watch this movie twice, same night. It is an emotionally and spiritually powerful movie. If one put aside criticism, for the sake of criticising what is valued as good or bad, and look at the depth of life; man's greatest gift, and appreciate and embrace it wholeheartedly, one would be able to explore and understand this movie's innner beauty and powerful messages. Many thanks, Diego R. Rodriguez

Starring: Eddie Murphy and Jada Pinkett-Smith. The movie takes place in a college town where Eddie Murphy plays Sherman Klump a 400 pound Professor that is in love with Professor Carla Purty played by Jada Pinkett- Smith. Carla sees Professor Klump as the beautiful person that he is. The Nutty Professor is a very well put together film with Eddie Murphy playing seven different roles. If you want to see a good comedy The Nutty Professor is for you. There are some scene's that really put down overweight people. I have always been overweight and I did not take the scene's offensively but some people may. There are some parts of the movie some people could find inappropriate. You may want to watch the movie before letting your children enjoy the comedy. I give The Nutty Professor 5 stars for any adult. It is just really a funny movie any adult could find humor in. But on the other hand I give the movie a 3 ½ for children, a child being anyone under the age of 18, because of the inappropriate actions in the movie.
The professor creates a formula that can drastically make anyone lose weight within seconds and can't wait to prove it to everyone. However, even this is a challenge when the new, skinnier Eddie Murphy tries to take over and do away with Mr. Klump. The Nutty Professor is one of the funniest movies ever made in my opinion. Some of the sequences might not be as good as the others, but I don't know anybody in my family or any of my friends that didn't like the movie. It's one of Eddie Murphy's best and if you feel like laughing, you need to get this movie.

Supporting Carrey in the film are Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman, and Sam the dog. This movie is also a touching film that grapples with the emotions -- the romance between Carrey and Aniston and the other issues in relation to the human heart. Words can't really describe this film, but only that it is a must to see if you want to wet your pants or hyperventilate laughing. I guarantee if you're looking for humor, you will find it in this gem of a movie.
Bruce Nolan (Carrey) is about to turn 40 and feels that the world is out to get him. He has a job as a TV reporter that's going nowhere and not even his main squeeze Grace (Jennifer Aniston) can help him. After an encounter with GOD (Morgan Freeman), Bruce is endowed with devine powers, in order to see if he can do any better. Carrey is allowed to do his thing, while still sticking to the story, and he once again proves that given the right material, he can really strut his stuff. Some sequences are genuinely the laugh out loud kind. Freeman, who rarely disappoints, and Aniston, prove that they can both hold their own with "rubber face" Shadyac and Carrey make a good team, and despite a few minor hiccupps, they have another winner here. The DVD loses points for its skimpy extras. Sure, things are solid, but there's just not enough here. Freeman and Aniston are surprisingly absent from the festivities...and it shows. The audio commentary from Shadyac is good enough for some insight but would have benefited with comments from others. The Process of Jim featurette has the director showcasing Carrey on the set. Along with at least 15 deleted scenes and a few outtakes, there's certainly enough smiles to go around but...Topping off the extras are the usual filmographies and the film's theatrical trailer. Bruce Almighty is a must see if you liked Liar Liar. Just forgive the powers that be for shortchanging the extras and you should be fine.
Carrey plays Bruce Nolan, a news anchor whose career is simply not going the way he'd like. His nemesis Evan(the always funny Steve Carrell) is stealing all the glory, he's constantly late for work and, to top it all off, his dog Sam seems physically unable to go to the bathroom inside the house. Bruce is so frustrated with his life that he decides to turn his back on God, saying that he himself could clear up the mess of his life within five minutes, and that God is neglecting his job. Enter...God! Hearing Bruce's claims that the Almighty is unfit for his job, God(Morgan Freeman) willingly hands the reigns to Bruce, wishing him good luck. After a series of self-indulgences that cause serious unforseen consequences, including the loss of his girlfriend Grace(Jennifer Aniston), the only person who has ever totally supported him, Bruce finally submits himself to God's will, and learns to accept that the world does not actually revolve around him. There are several clever innovations in the film. When Bruce discovers that he cannot possibly listen to all the prayer requests coming at once (in the form of terribly obnoxious voices in his head), he creates a database where he can read prayer requests in the form of e-mails. The name of the database: Yahweh. When Bruce lassoes down the moon for Grace, a huge freak tidal wave occurs in Japan as a result of "strange lunar activity". I'd talk about more of these clever parts, but I wouldn't want to ruin the film. The DVD is loaded with neat special features, including exstensive outtakes and alternate/cut scenes, all of which are fun to watch, and a couple of which provide just a little more food-for-thought. There's even a short featurette showing alternate cut parts of Carrey's scenes. "Bruce Almighty" is sort of a diamond in the rough. Though it's advertised as a wacky, crazy comedy, and looks like your typical Carrey vehicle-lots of chances for the star to use his outrageous facial exspressions(and there's plenty of that too)-there's really quite a bit more under the surface than there seems at first, leaving us with a fun, enjoyable movie that leaves you laughing as well as thinking. ... "Patch Adams" is one of the best all around movies I've ever seen and in my opinion, it's Robin Williams's best movie by far. Like usual Robin Williams is hilarious while he's doing his antics in the movie, especially when he uses a skeleton to talk to the woman he likes. But even better, he does his humorous tricks in the movie and gets to know the patients and the other people with a real passion and understanding that shines through and makes this Robin Williams's best effort ever, in my opinion. Going to the doctor might not be such a hassle or a burden if there were more doctors like Patch Adams. "Patch Adams" is an inspirational and heartwarming movie that I recommend anybody to watch. Whether you like comedy movies, drama, or any type of movie, I recommend giving "Patch Adams" a try. It's hard to put into words how great this movie really is.
Williams stars as patch adams a guy who comes to work for a hospital with several patients who are either very ill or whose doctors have done little to improve their condition. adams though, knows that the way to improve their patients is not through medicine but through goodness and happiness. in adams case, he brings laughter and joy using an unusual brand of humor. In several instances, adams dresses and acts like a clown complete with a red nose. He entertains the dying patients in the hospital with his gentle heart and breathes new life and hope into them. ''You treat a disease, you win or lose, you treat a patient, i'll guarantee you ll win'' that great lines is Adams philosophy toward treating patients. He sees that one of the main reasons the doctors have failed in improving their patients conditions is because several of the doctors are cold-blooded and unfeeling. The doctors fail to get know their patients intimately and fail most of all to make their patients happy. several of william's colleagues a guy named mitch and a girl name annie are skeptical at first, but after witnessing the improvement in the patients, they see that adams is just what the doctor ordered. However, not all the people in the hospital is happy with adams. The main boss of the hospital (obviously jealous with adams amazing ability to relate and bring joy the patients) wants adams to quit or be fired from the hospital. i liked this movie very much not only because of williams performance but because of the message. in today's age with greedy HMO's, high medical costs and unfeeling customers service, todays patients don't really get the high quality medical care. Many doctors are rude and impatient with the patients, Nurses fail to get there patients personally and so forth. Of course not all Doctors and Hospitals are cold-blooded are bad, but it would stupid to say that all of them are good, because they are not. If you turn on the news, there's always a news segment chronicle the bad service of a hospital or doctor, or a lawsuit against both. So the movie is very fact based. It's actually based on the 1970's real life events of Hunter ''Patch'' Adams (Robin Williams), who founded the Gesundheit Clinic. If you're a Williams fan, you'll love it.
Robin Williams was at his peak when he made this film; he was brilliant as a therapist with cancer patients and other terminally ill adults and children. A couple years ago in downtown Knoxville, I quite by chance encountered a person out on the street (actually coming out of a coffee shop) dressed as a clown with a big, red nose. I asked, "Are you Patch Adams?" and was given a business card with a sketch of 'Poppy' on which he was quoted in 2000, "A smile from the heart is the essence of the universal language and shows our love of people." It turns out his name is Wes Flener, a respiratory therapist from LaGrange, KY, here to entertain at a seminar at a local hospital. When I suggested that he visit the patients over at Children's Hospital across the street from his local destination, he presented me with a card "Good for One Laugh." This movie follows the daily interaction between Patch, his associates, and the patients who need his help. Allowing the mentally challenged and disturbed Larry to join the mountain retreat as a resident was a monumental mistake. PATCH ADAMS is an unforgettable story based on truth.
This film will inspire, bring you joy and even, it could make you cry. A perfect blend of drama and sense of humor which you can find in this one fantastic movie. The script was well-written and very balance in terms of wit and sensibility. I commended Robin Williams who played the inspiring life of Dr. Patch Adams. His role as Dr. Adams is absolutely fantastic and his performance is incredibly superb! he truly justified the character he played as Dr. Adams...flambuoyant, compassionate and free-spirited person. You will see a different Williams in this unique character. ... Read more | |

Amazon.com Staving off suicidal thoughts, Hunter Adams commits himself into a psychiatric ward, where he not only garners the nickname "Patch," but learns the joy in helping others. To this end, he decides to go to medical school, where he clashes with the staid conventions of the establishment as he attempts to inject humor and humanity into his treatment of the patients ("We need to start treating the patient as well as the disease," he declares throughout the film).Robin Williams, in the title role, is as charming as ever, although someone should tell him to broaden his range--the ever-cheerful do-gooder à la Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society is getting a little old.His sidekick Truman (Daniel London) steals the show with his gawky allure and eyebrows that threaten to overtake his lean face--he seems more real, which is odd considering that Patch Adams does exist and this film is based on his life. Monica Potter is the coolly reluctant love interest, and she makes the most of her one-dimensional part. While moments of true heartfelt emotion do come through, the major flaw of this film is that the good guys are just so gosh-darn good and the bad ones are just big meanies with no character development. Patch Adams, though, does provide the tears, the giggles, and the kooky folks who will keep you smiling at the end. --Jenny Brown Reviews (192)
